Now, the situation has divided public opinion, with some seeing a touching gesture and others a sleazy intrusion.

Hugh Hefner fans on social media praised him for appreciating the iconic actress – his first cover girl, who died in 1962.

In Marilyn: Her Life in Her Own Words, the actress wrote: “I never even received a thank-you from all those who made millions off a n**e Marilyn photograph. I even had to buy a copy of the magazine to see myself in it.”

Hugh Hefner never met Marilyn Monroe – though he said they had talked once by phone.

“I’m a sucker for blondes, and she is the ultimate blonde,” he said.

Speaking of his post-mortem plans, Hugh Hefner told the LA Times he had many friends buried in the Westwood Village Memorial Park. Screen favorites Natalie Wood, Dean Martin, and Farrah Fawcett are among its celebrity residents.

“I’m a believer in things symbolic,” he told the paper.

“Spending eternity next to Marilyn is too sweet to pass up.”

China will close down the North Korean companies operating in its territory as it implements United Nations sanctions against the reclusive state.

The North Korean companies will be shut by early January. Joint Chinese and North Korean ventures will also be forced to close.

China, North Korea’s only major ally, has already banned textile trade and limited oil exports.

The move is part of an international response to North Korea’s sixth and most powerful nuclear test.

The UN Security Council, of which China is a member, voted unanimously for fresh sanctions on September 11.

China’s commerce ministry said it had set a deadline of 120 days from the passing of the resolution for any North Korean companies within its borders to close.

North Korea is politically and economically isolated, and the vast majority of its trade is with China.

Kim Jong-un, in turn, has called Donald Trump “deranged” and a “dotard”, and said the US president’s comments have convinced him he is right to seek a nuclear deterrent, and has even accused President Trump of declaring war.

At a news briefing on September 28, China’s foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said: “We are opposed to any war on the Korean peninsula.”

“Sanctions and the promoting of talks are both the requirements of the UN Security Council. We should not overemphasize one aspect while ignoring the other.”

In a Facebook post responding to President Trump’s criticism, the social network’s founder Mark Zuckerberg said he was striving to make “a platform for all ideas”. Mark Zuckerberg noted that both ends of the political spectrum were upset about content they disliked, and that liberals in the US had accused him of enabling President Trump’s victory.

The 33-year-old said the candidates’ campaigns had “spent hundreds of millions advertising online,” which he called “1000x more than any problematic ads we’ve found”.

Mark Zuckerberg said he regretted saying on the day Donald Trump was elected that it was “crazy” to say that misinformation on Facebook changed the election’s outcome, because it sounded dismissive.

He promised Facebook would “continue to build a community for all people” – and to “defend against nation states attempting to spread misinformation and subvert elections”.

Mark Zuckerberg’s response attracted 65,000 “likes” within two hours of being posted.

Russia has long denied any form of interference in the US election, and President Trump has railed against allegations that his staff had improper links to Russia.

However, US intelligence agencies have concluded Russia tried to sway the vote in favor of Donald Trump. Congressional committees and an FBI inquiry are currently probing the matter.

Saudi Arabia Lifts Women Driving Ban

King Salman of Saudi Arabia has issued a new decree allowing women to drive for the first time.

Campaigners have hailed the decision with one female activist calling it a “great victory”, while another said things would “never be the same again”.

The US ambassador in Saudi Arabia has described the move as “the right decision at the right time”.

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that bans women from driving – and women are still subject to strict dress codes and gender segregation.

Until now, only men were allowed licenses and women who drove in public risked being arrested and fined.

Meanwhile, Latifah Alshaalan, a member of the Shura council, a government advisory panel, told broadcaster Al Arabiya: “This is a great victory for many Saudi women. This was the one file and issue which Saudi women have fought not just years, but decades for.”

A ministerial body will be set up to give advice within 30 days and the royal order will be implemented by June 24, 2018.

Saudi Arabia’s US ambassador, Prince Khaled bin Salman, confirmed that women would not have to get male permission to take driving lessons, and would be able to drive anywhere they liked.

Playboy magazine made Hugh Hefner a multi-millionaire, spawning a business empire that included casinos and nightclubs.

The first edition featured a set of photographs of Marilyn Monroe that Hugh Hefner had bought for $200. They had originally been shot for a 1949 calendar.

The silk pyjama-clad mogul became famous for his hedonism, dating and marrying Playboy models. In his later years he threw decadent parties at the luxurious Playboy mansion in Los Angeles.

Puerto Rico’s government has asked a judge to defer key deadlines in its bankruptcy case as it grapples with Maria’s devastation.

President Trump came under fire after he spent the weekend focusing on a feud with NFL players and coaches, instead of acknowledging the Puerto Rico disaster.

He tweeted about the crisis on September 25 – but angered critics by suggesting that Puerto Rico’s $72 billion debt needed to be addressed amid its appeal for relief aid: “Texas & Florida are doing great but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure & massive debt, is in deep trouble owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with. Food, water and medical are top priorities – and doing well. #FEMA.”

On September 26, the White House announced that President Trump had increased federal funding and assistance for debris removal and emergency protective measures in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of the storm.

The president said he would visit Puerto Rico on October 3 – nearly a fortnight after the storm struck – because it was the “earliest I can go without disrupting relief efforts”.

President Trump may also visit the US Virgin Islands, which was hit by both Hurricane Maria and Irma.

He said his administration was doing a “really good job” and that the Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rossello, was “so grateful”.

President Trump said rescue efforts were complicated because Puerto Rico was offshore.

“This is a thing called the Atlantic ocean, this is tough stuff,” he said.

He added: “Puerto Rico is very important to me. The people are fantastic. I grew up in New York so I know many Puerto Rican people.”

Ricardo Rossello told Reuters President Trump’s handling of the disaster had been “excellent” and that the government had “responded very quickly” to the crisis.

More than 10,000 US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) staff are on the ground in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands to assist with relief efforts, according to the agency.

Otto Warmbier’s parents have shared horrific details of his condition when he arrived home from North Korea.

In an interview with Fox and Friends, Fred and Cindy Warmbier said that the North Koreans were “terrorists” who had “systematically tortured” their son.

Otto Warmbier was jailed in Pyongyang in 2016 for stealing a hotel sign.

The American student was released on medical grounds in June 2017 but arrived home seriously ill and died days later.

North Korea has always denied mistreating Otto Warmbier. According to North Korean officials, he contracted botulism while in prison but US doctors found no trace of this.

In their first interview since their son’s death, Fred and Cindy Warmbier told Fox News that they “felt it was time to tell the truth about the condition that Otto was in”.

American doctors had previously described Otto Warmbier as being in a state of “unresponsive wakefulness”, but his parents said calling this a coma was “unfair”.

Fred Warmbier said when they saw his son he was “moving around, and jerking violently, making these howling and inhuman sounds”.

His head was shaved, he was blind and deaf, his arms and legs were “totally deformed” and he had a huge scar on his foot, he said. It “looked like someone had taken a pair of pliers and rearranged his bottom teeth”.

Cindy Warmbier said North Korea sent him home because “they didn’t want him to die on their soil”.

The family refused a post-mortem examination because they thought Otto had suffered enough and “I wasn’t going to let him out of my sight,” she said.

Cindy Warmbier also pleaded with people not to go to North Korea, saying it was “playing into” Pyongyang’s propaganda. US citizens are now banned from travelling to North Korea.

However, the Cincinnati Enquirer, a local newspaper has disputed the allegations made by Otto Warmbier’s parents.

The newspaper said it had obtained a copy of a coroner’s report on Otto Warmbier, based on an external examination, which revealed several small scars but nothing which indicated torture.

The Cincinnati Enquirer quoted the Hamilton County coroner as saying Otto Warmbier’s teeth were “natural and in good repair” and that he appeared to have died from brain damage caused by a lack of oxygen.

President Donald Trump, who is known to watch Fox and Friends, tweeted that it had been “a great interview”, and that “Otto was tortured beyond belief by North Korea”.

The president’s comment is likely to stoke the escalating tensions between North Korea and the US, which have exchanged allegations and threats at an unprecedented rate in recent weeks.

On September 24, US warplanes flew close to North Korea’s coast in a show of force.

Speaking as he left New York after the UN General Assembly, Ri Yong-ho said his country had the right to shoot down US warplanes even if they were not in North Korea’s airspace.

On September 25, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the US had “not declared war against North Korea and frankly the suggestion of that is absurd”.

Pentagon spokesman Col. Robert Manning reacted by saying: “If North Korea does not stop their provocative actions, you know, we will make sure that we provide options to the president to deal with North Korea.”

South Korea – technically at war with North Korea since the 1950s – called for “astuteness and steadfastness” in responding to what it describes as continued provocations by Pyongyang.

Speaking in New York, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha called for the prevention of any “further escalation of tensions, or any kind of accidental military clashes in the region which can quickly spiral out of control”.

South Korea’s intelligence service said North Korea was readjusting the position of its military aircraft and strengthening its coastal defenses, according to the South’s news agency Yonhap.

Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for UN Secretary General António Guterres, said that “fiery talk can lead to fatal misunderstandings” and that “the only solution for this is a political solution”.

China’s ambassador to the UN, Liu Jieyi, told Reuters: “We want things to calm down.

“It’s getting too dangerous and it’s in nobody’s interest.”

Despite weeks of tension, experts have played down the risk of direct conflict.

North Korea has continued to carry out nuclear and ballistic missile tests in recent weeks, in defiance of successive rounds of UN sanctions.

Pyongyang says nuclear capabilities are its only deterrent against an outside world seeking to destroy it.

After North Korea’s latest and most powerful nuclear test earlier this month, the UN Security Council approved new sanctions on the country.

Not much more than a few years ago and people were using talcum powder as liberally as Donald Trump uses divisive comments. Parents used it on their babies, people used it to get that soft skin feeling, athletes used it to stop chaffing and others did it for personal hygiene reasons. In short, it was all but an essential part of people’s lifestyle.

However, the question, “does talcum powder cause cancer?” is one that has become a mainstream talking point ever since an L.A. jury agreed it did. In fact, Johnson & Johnson were ordered to pay a 63-year-old woman $417 million as it was determined that her terminal illness was caused by decades of Johnson’s talcum powder use. The argument was that Johnson’s should have warned consumers of the risk.

In this instance, the cancer in question was ovarian cancer, and the fact Eva Echeverria’s was terminal has turned the once innocent use of a product into a possible wrongful death lawsuit that could extend to who knows where.

For those who aren’t aware, talcum powder is made up of talc minerals, which are made up of magnesium, silicon and oxygen. Some talcum powders also contain asbestos, which isn’t exactly a substance you want to put messing around with and potentially inhaling. With that in mind, we have pulled together a list of other cancers that could be caused by the excessive use of talcum powder.

The Lungs

Asbestos is a substance that has been proven to encourage lung cancer, which makes this a real worry for anyone that isn’t doing their research or still using a bottle of talc that they’ve found at the back of the cupboard from when they were kids. However, even though most talcum powder on the market is asbestos-free, there are other mineral deposits in talcum powder that can cause lung cancer, most notably Radon. This is actually more severe than you may think because last year Radon-induced lung cancer was the second biggest killer, second only to smoking. To put it to you bluntly, the EPA has found there to be epidemiological evidence showing a clear link between lung cancer and high levels of Radon.

The Ovaries

Such as we have found with the case of Eva Echeverria, talcum powder has become increasingly linked to the rise in ovarian cancer, which is often referred to as ‘The Silent Killer’. The reason why Eva Echeverria’s case is so significant is because it shows that there is a) proof women have been suffering from ovarian cancer as a direct result of being exposed to talcum powder in large quantities or over a long period of time and b) there has been a lack of responsibility by those manufacturing and selling these products to people without proper warning. What makes this so much worse is the fact ovarian cancer is so hard to spot, as well as the fact it can spread to other parts of the body with relative ease.

Other Cancer

While lung and ovarian are the two biggest worries on this front, talcum powder is often associated with other forms of cancer, namely endometrial and uterine cancer, both of which are more common within women that have been through their most fertile periods. Another form of cancer that is worth mentioning, and one that is not so exclusively reserved for women but men also, is stomach cancer.

Now, we know that a lot of people, especially those in the Baby Boomer and Traditionalist generations, are going to dismiss this as a load of nonsense, which probably has something to do with the fact they don’t want to be told they were sold something so harmful. However, while the results are still yet to be fully confirmed and the exact science will remain ongoing for a few more years no doubt, many experts are urging people to stop using excessive amounts of talcum powder, while others are saying it should be avoided altogether.

Basically, we need to dig deeper to understand exactly what is going on because at the moment we can’t say in any totally certain terms what talc’s effects on the body are – especially the lungs and ovaries. As such, it is so important that science world works to discover what the mechanism is if there is one. One thing is for sure, this current court case with Johnson & Johnson is only the start of something very big and very important, and so the world will likely be watching what happens here, and what other products could get drawn into the mix.

The latest disruption to WhatsApp appears to be part of a broader crackdown on the internet and online content in China.

On September 25, China’s cyber watchdog handed down maximum penalties to some of the country’s top tech companies including Tencent, Baidu and Weibo for failing to properly censor online content.

The penalties were imposed for failing to remove fake news and pornography, as well as content that authorities said “incites ethic tension” and “threatens social order”.

The US has expanded its travel ban to include people from North Korea, Venezuela and Chad.

According to the White House, the new restrictions follow a review of information sharing by foreign governments.

President Donald Trump issued a presidential proclamation on September 24.

He said in a post on Twitter: “Making America safe is my number one priority. We will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet.”

The restrictions on Venezuelans apply only to government officials and their family members.

The three new countries join five others from President Trump’s original travel ban: Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia. However, the new proclamation removed restrictions that were placed on Sudan.

Trump Revised Travel Ban Blocked Indefinitely by Hawaii Judge

President Trump’s original ban was highly controversial, as it affected six majority-Muslim countries, and was widely labeled a “Muslim ban”.

The travel ban was subject to a range of legal challenges and several large-scale protests, and is due to be considered by the US Supreme Court in October, having been partly reinstated in July.

The American Civil Liberties Union rights group said the addition of the new countries “doesn’t obfuscate the real fact that the administration’s order is still a Muslim ban”.

It is not yet clear how President Trump’s new proclamation, which changes several key elements, will affect that legal challenge.

The addition of North Korea and Venezuela now means not all nations on the list are majority-Muslim.

The criteria for the new ban list is now based on vetting procedures and co-operation, and the restrictions have now been “tailored” on a country-by-country basis. The White House said North Korea did not co-operate with the US government “in any respect” and failed all requirements – and so all travel to the US by its citizens has been banned. Chad, while an important counter-terrorism partner, did not share terrorism-related and other public information the US required – business and tourist visas for its nationals are suspended. Only “certain Venezuelan government officials and their immediate family members” have been banned – its government has recently been hit with economic sanctions by the US, who now say it does not co-operate “in verifying whether its citizens pose national security or public-safety threats” and does not receive deported nationals willingly.

Most of the restrictions come in the form of suspension of B-1 and B-2 business and tourist visas, and they do not appear to be time-limited in the way that President Trump’s former executive order was.

In a fact sheet accompanying President Trump’s proclamation, the White House said that while Iraq also falls short of the required criteria, the country was not included in the new restrictions “because of the close co-operative relationship between the United States” and their part in fighting so-called Islamic State.

Angela Merkel has been re-elected for a fourth term as Germany chancellor while nationalists have made a historic breakthrough in federal elections, exit polls suggest.

According to local reports, support for her conservative CDU/CSU alliance has dwindled, but the bloc will remain the largest in the parliament.

CDU/CSU’s current coalition partner, the social democratic SPD, says it will go into opposition following big losses.

The nationalist AfD is on track to become the third party.

The AfD’s performance, better than forecast in opinion polls, means the right-wing, anti-Islam party will have seats in the Bundestag for the first time.

Dozens of protesters have gathered outside the AfD’s headquarters in Berlin, some with placards saying “Refugees are welcome”.

While Angela Merkel’s alliance has remained the largest party, the numbers, if confirmed, are the worst result for the alliance between the Christian Democrat (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) under the chancellor’s leadership.

Addressing supporters, Angela Merkel, who has been in the job for 12 years, said she had hoped for a “better result”.

She added that she would listen to the “concerns, worries and anxieties” of voters of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in order to win them back.

With the possibility of an alliance with the SPD rejected, Angela Merkel’s options are narrow, and the process of forming a new coalition could take months.

The projections suggest that six parties will be in the German parliament for the first time since World War Two.

The most likely scenario is of a “Jamaica” coalition, so-called because of the colors of Jamaica’s flag. It includes the black CDU/CSU, the yellow, business-friendly Free Democrats (FDP) – who are returning to parliament after a four-year hiatus – and the Greens.

It is not a marriage made in heaven, as the Greens want to phase out 20 coal-fired power plants and the FDP disagree, but it is the only formation that would guarantee enough seats in the new Bundestag, German broadcaster ZDF says.

All parties have rejected working with the AfD.

The AfD has capitalized on a backlash against Angela Merkel’s policy towards migrants and refugees, many of them from war-torn, mainly Muslim countries like Syria.

The party’s program is heavily anti-immigrant, and particularly anti-Islam. It called for a ban on minarets and considered Islam incompatible with German culture.

Additionally, several of the AfD’s candidates have been linked to far-right remarks.

Prominent AfD figure Frauke Petry said on Twitter that Germany had experienced an incomparable “political earthquake”.

Do you have concern for your loved one in respite care? It seems you would have a right to be concerned, more than a quarter of cases of nursing home neglect or abuse is not reported in any way, shape, or form. Federal law requires that cases of abuse in care homes or nursing homes should be reported to the police for them to deal with. While government investigators are conducting a review into neglect and abuse in care homes, the problem is prevalent and needs dealing with.

An investigation was undertaken into nursing home residents during 2015 and 2016, and 134 cases were deemed serious enough to require emergency room treatment. And most of these cases were as a result of sexual assault. Although these cases were over 33 states in the United States, some states had a higher percentage of abuse than others. Illinois was the prime culprit, with 17% of the cases of abuse stemming from this state. The impact on the families is unquestionable, and, in the more serious cases of nursing home neglect, such as resulting in death by a mistake in medication, this also belies a severe lack of internal monitoring. The fact is that these people should not have died in the first place, and the fact that this is still going on in care homes up and down the United States, and the world, has indicated the dire situation of care homes and their staff selection process.

It is unfortunate that the amount of wrongful death lawsuits appears to be escalating at an alarming rate. The most recent one was a family that filed a wrongful death lawsuit against James Square Health And Rehabilitation Centre, of Syracuse, due to the lack of monitoring with regards to hydration and nutrition, as well as the home failing to diagnose and treat sepsis. This is the fifth wrongful death lawsuit filed against this rehabilitation center in the last five years. This highlights the pandemic of abuse and neglect in care homes across the board is firmly in place.

So what can be done to regulate this? Although the federal law on neglect was drastically improved in 2011, which implores someone to report any suspicions of neglect or abuse to a local law enforcement organization within 2 hours, this still doesn’t solve the issue of employing the right members of staff. Looking at the example of care homes across the board, the regulations when it comes to hiring staff don’t require any specific qualifications as a rule. This is in relation to an entry-level position for the job, as evidenced in care homes for the disabled. As a result, the vetting process needs to be more stringent.

But to prevent the rise in cases of nursing home neglect and abuse, on the whole, this brings to light the fact that everyone, not just the family members, needs to be on guard. Nursing home abuse is something that shouldn’t be tolerated, and based on the results of the investigation undertaken; this number can be greatly reduced with a better vetting process.
