Top Home Décor Trends for 2018

0

sofa

2017 was a year of experimentation for interior designers and home owners alike. Trendsetters are predicting this trend to go even further in 2018 with many designers pushing boundaries. However there are some trends from 2017 that will disappear this year, like decorating in turquoise. On trend couches will no longer be sporting the colour, instead we’ll see emeralds, plum and autumn colours, like reds and deep yellows.

Typography

Typhography will still be in, in 2018. Make way for more words like EAT over the kitchen counter, DREAM in the living spaces and RELAX in bathrooms. This trend isn’t set to die out anytime soon, in fact we’re predicting to see even more of it in 2018. Instead of wooden blocks with printed words, expect to see more framed art pieces from artists and typographers rather than homemade replicas.

parrots

Parrots

Parrots are the new flamingos. Flamingos are still on trend in January but expect to see less and less of them as the year progresses and more brightly styled parrots on everything from your couch cushions, bedding to art prints and even dresses and aprons to match. Interestingly, the Parrot, while on trend when it comes to home décor, didn’t fare as well in the Guardian’s poll of Australia’s favourite bird for 2017. The Australian Magpie came in top place with the King Parrot further down the list in 12th place with just 3,446 votes to the winning, Magpie’s 19,926.

Floral Prints

Continueing on with our trend of bright and bold colours for 2018, the floral print is back this year and bigger than ever. You’re likely to start spotting it on large billowing fabrics like drapery and Manchester, but you can expect it on chairs and throw pillows as well.

Earthy Lux Vibes

As we’re bombarded with technology in our everyday lives, we’re moving away from this when it comes to decorating our homes. Instead of cold and austere industrial furniture and finishes we’re now moving towards a more earthy and natural vibe. Think hippy but paired with luxury for relaxation. As our work lives are so hectic we want to unwind in more natural feeling spaces.

One of a Kind

Continuing with the theme of earthy lux vibes and more natural tones in the home, one of a kind pieces are forever on trend. This includes buying second hand homewares to find one of a kind pieces instead of mass produced ‘on trend’ items that are only fashionable in the now. Shoppers are becoming more savvy and don’t want to compromise quality for price, instead opting for higher quality used pieces at a discounted rate. You can also find unique pieces at NW Rugs store in Jantzen Beach.

lavender

Lavender Hues

Everyone is still loving on Millennial pink but we’re moving on from that and adjusting to lavender hues instead. Lavender creates equally soft and pastel pops to your home, like Millennial pink, without actually having to be Millennial pink. Nancy Fire, Creative Director of HGTV HOME, Design Works International and Studio NYC Design stated “People were sarcastic about Millennial pink at the beginning, but it’s being used to bring out beautiful, soft tones with accents that are deeper.”

California Hate Crimes on the Rise

0

History would attest that America is a land of immigrants, but why is it that the nation is more divided now than ever? A country that has once prided itself of its own cultural and ethnic diversity is now fighting a war against something far worse than its enemies outside its borders. For what could be worse than fighting a battle against your own?

Hate crimes in the country are mainly triggered by prejudice and hatred against a certain gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or belief. When people turn their prejudice, hatred, and tainted ideals into violent actions, these become hate crimes. It may be surprising to some that the US, a country of immigrants, would still have crimes of this nature. In fact, reports show that hate crimes in several major US cities have been spiking up at an unsettling rate in the last few years. In particular, the state of California has had one of the highest increase in hate crimes in the country.

According to the California Department of Justice, hate crime related activities went up by 11.2% from 2015 to 2016. Moreover, state statistics show that majority of the hate crimes from 2007-2016 are motivated by racial biases, taking 57 percent of all hate crimes during that period. This is followed by sexual orientation bias with 22.5 percent and religious bias with 17.9 percent. These alarming statistics translate to real life, and recent events in the country prove just how real these numbers are.

In August of this year, Alberto Campos, a Latino man, was sentenced to three years in prison after he had beat up Kevin Raspberry, a black man, who he thought was hitting on his girlfriend. The defendant was also accused of yelling at Raspberry and calling him the “N-word”. San Diego Criminal Defense Lawyer Victoria Ramirez addressed the court, saying that the defendant was remorseful for his actions and only thought that he was defending his girlfriend. “That is the day I will regret for the rest of my life,” said Campos. Raspberry was not present the day Campos was sentenced to jail.

In October 2017, an attack took place at a restaurant on University Avenue against a Somali Man who was knocked down by Sean Arevalo and his friends Terrance Crow Jr. and Scott Peretti. The men were reported to have yelled inside the restaurant proclaiming their patriotism and condemning Muslims. They went on to barrate two Muslim women, and attacked the Somali Man. The men convicted of the hate crime were were brought in at San Diego Superior Court this October 2017 wherein Crow Jr. was sentenced to 120 days in jail.

More recently, two men, Samuel Wickwire and Wade Rutledge, were charged for allegedly terrorizing and spitting on a gay couple in a beach parking lot in Orange County. The pair threatened them with violence if the gay couple did not leave the premises. As the couple were getting in their car, Rutledge pushed one of the victims in the car and slammed the door on the victim’s hand. Both men were arrested in December, and currently face a maximum of six to seven years in prison.

These hate crimes are just a few of the many offenses done in California. Learning about the different accounts of hate crime victims in the country is both surprising and disheartening. People guilty of hate crimes are bullies that spread anger and terror, and this should not be tolerated. These people are pushing to further divide the country, and this is the last thing the country needs.

Turpin Case: California Couple Arrested for Allegedly Holding Their 13 Children Captive

0

David Allen Turpin and his wife, Louise Anna, have been arrested after police found their 13 children were held captive at home, some “shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks”.

The couple was held on charges of torture and child endangerment.

Their children – aged two to 29 – lived in Perris, 59 miles south-east of Los Angeles.

Police officers were alerted by one of the victims, a 17-year-old girl.

On January 15, the girl – who appeared to be “only 10 years old and slightly emaciated” – managed to escape and call the emergency number using a mobile phone found inside the house, the Riverside Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

Officers later found “several children shackled to their beds with chains and padlocks in dark and foul-smelling surroundings”.

They were “shocked” to discover that seven of them were actually adults aged between 18 and 29.

“The victims appeared to be malnourished and very dirty,” the police said.

The children are now being treated in local hospitals.

The head of one of the hospitals, Mark Uffer, told Reuters: “It’s actually heartbreaking for the staff and it’s unbelievable what you see.”

According to public records, David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49, lived in Texas for many years before moving to California in 2010.

David Turpin has twice been declared bankrupt. At the time of his second bankruptcy he is said to have had a relatively well-paid job as an engineer at aeronautics and defense technology company Northrop Grumman.

However, with so many children and his wife not working, records suggest David Turpin’s expenses exceeded his income.

The man’s parents, James and Betty Turpin, said that they had not seen the family for four or five years.

They told ABC they were considered a good Christian family in their community and that “God called on them” to have so many children.

The family’s Facebook page shows numerous pictures of them, apparently happy and smiling, some from events where David and Louise Turpin renewed their vows.

Many posts have comments from family or friends.

David Turpin’s parents said their grandchildren were home-schooled, but it is not entirely clear what that means.

On the California Department of Education website, David Turpin is listed as the principal of Sandcastle Day School – a private school operated out of his home.

According to the website, the school was opened in March 2011. Six pupils are enrolled there, all in different grades.

In California, private schools operate outside the jurisdiction of the education department and most regulations. They are directly accountable to students and their parents or guardians, and the state has no authority to monitor or evaluate them.

Teachers at private schools in California also do not need to hold a valid state teaching qualification.

One neighbor told Reuters that the Turpin family “were the type that you didn’t really get to know anything about them”.

He said: “You would never see them on visit, you would never see anyone come outside. All you would really see is that they go out and maybe do a grocery round. And that was about it.”

Another neighbor from across the street, Kimberly Milligan, 50, told the Los Angeles Times they seemed strange and wondered why the children never came out to play.

“I thought the kids were home-schooled,” Kimberly Milligan said.

“You know something is off, but you don’t want to think bad of people.”

Kimberly Milligan recalls on one occasion saying hello to the children but said they looked at her “like a child who wants to make themselves invisible”.

Colombia Highway Bridge Collapse Kills Nine in Chirajara

A highway bridge under construction in Colombia has collapsed, killing at least 9 workers and injuring 5 others.

The bridge in Chirajara was to be part of a highway connecting Bogotá with the city of Villavicencio.

Images from the scene show a large part of the 450m-long bridge lying in the ravine below.

Colombia’s Transport Minister Germán Cardona spoke of a “tragedy” and said the cause of the collapse would be investigated.

One of the workers injured in the collapse described the moment it happened.

Luis Alvarado told El Tiempo newspaper: “Everyone started shouting that the bridge was falling, I didn’t have time to do anything and then I felt a blow to my head.”

Construction officials said that fortunately not many workers were on the bridge at the time of the collapse as staff were receiving a safety briefing.

The bridge is part of an ambitious program to improve the route leading from the capital to the eastern plains by turning parts of it into a dual carriageway.

The planned works include the construction of 18 new tunnels and 42 bridges and viaducts as well as new lighting and CCTV cameras.

The existing – winding and narrow – road faces frequent closures with trucks supplying the capital with produce often breaking down, blocking traffic.

The company tasked with the works is Coviandes, which is majority-owned by a Colombian investment corporation.

On January 15, Coviandes issued a statement saying it would do everything it could to help the families of the workers who died or were injured in the collapse.

Dolores O’Riordan Death: Cranberries Lead Singer Dies Aged 46

Irish musician and singer-songwriter Dolores O’Riordan has died suddenly at the age of 46, her publicist has confirmed.

She led The Cranberries to international success in the 90s with singles including Linger and Zombie.

A statement from Dolores O’Riordan publicist said: “The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session.

“No further details are available at this time.”

The statement added: “Family members are devastated to hear the news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

Dolores O’Riordan arrested at Shannon airport

Last year, The Cranberries announced a tour including dates in Europe, the UK, and the US.

However, in May – shortly into the European tour – The Cranberries had to cancel the remainder of the European dates as a result of Dolores O’Riordan’s health issues.

The band’s official website cited “medical reasons associated with a back problem” preventing singer Dolores O’Riordan’s from performing.

However, just before Christmas Dolores O’Riordan had posted on Facebook saying she was “feeling good” and had done her “first bit of gigging in months”, leading fans to believe she would soon be performing again.

The singer tweeted a picture of herself with her cat to fans in early January saying she was “off to Ireland”.

In 2014, Dolores O’Riordan split from her husband of 20 years, Don Burton. The singer and Dan Burton, who is the former tour manager of Duran Duran, have three children together.

Dolores O’Riordan suffered from bi-polar disorder and was spared a criminal conviction after an air rage incident in 2014.

Top 5 Money Saving Tips to Buy An Engagement Ring

0

Saving for something cardinal like an engagement ring takes a bit of heady planning, prehensile prep work, and some frugality. The hassles associated with the ‘how to’ of savings can easily be overcome if you’re penny-wise and thrifty. Add to that the tips below and you’ve got yourself a dazzling engagement ring that is trendy within a stringent budget, courtesy money-saving. Take a look:

Planning is Key

Any project’s success depends on a well-thought-out plan that provides a lucid roadmap to follow. It makes the overall vision clear and the entire task easier. Consider savings as a project that will require prudent and witty groundwork. Research well on the subject! This essentially means you should search for the basic 4C’s of an engagement ring precisely; color, carat, clarity, and cut. Execute a comprehensive market-analysis to finalize the type you want. Remember you have to compromise on the 4Cs depending on your budget and savings duration. Buying a .85 or .95 carat diamond instead of a one-carat weight will make the diligence worthwhile.

wedding-rings

Define A Budget

It’s essential to have a defined budget, so you are clear on how much you need to stash away for the purchase. For example, if you decide on a 0.85 rose-cut diamond with S12 clarity and $5,000 price tag, then you know what your target is. Once you’ve set the budget along with the plan, proceed to savings and ‘how to’.

Calculate Savings And Plan The ‘How To

Without proper planning, it can be hard to calculate how much to spend on an engagement ring. Once you have the budget defined, use a calculator to work out how much you can put away every month keeping in mind the duration of the savings that is usually the time till the purchase date. So, if you have a budget of $5,000 and are planning on buying the ring a year from now, you will have to save approximately $420 every month. With the monthly savings defined, plan the ‘how to’ by reworking your spending and monthly income to ensure you can save the required ballpark hassle-free. Remember, frugality and penny-pinching are the keys.

Set Up Automatic Transfer And Savings Account

Set up a separate savings account and online banking functionality, so you can transfer the savings every month to your account. If you could chip in large amounts, in the beginning, it’d be great, as this will allow you the flexibility to manage your savings better. Combine this with a financial product like a loan to step up the savings and ease troubles.

Avoid Impulse Spending And Big Purchases

The essence of saving is thriftiness and this means avoiding impulse buying, large purchases and opting for affordable corporate catering options. You know you need to buy an engagement ring, have worked out the monthly cash flows and the how-to, so stick to the plan. Ditch the costly high-tech stereo system, Xbox, and the Ralph Lauren suit because you can always purchase these accessories later. There’s always a choice of opting for less expensive items or products on sale. It will take a bit of effort in having to let go of expensive things and cool stuff you pine for but all that will vanish when you hold that diamond ring in your hand.

Seven steps to finding a girlfriend online

There comes a day in every man’s life when he realizes that he is ready to settle down. For me, that day came three years ago. I realized that I wanted to be a husband and a father more than hang out with friends in bars and clubs each week. Thinking about how to get a girlfriend to settle down with, I decided to become a member of a dating site. In this article I will tell you, based on my three-year experience, how to become a man can win a woman’s heart online.

Why online dating?

I think that online dating is the universal way to get a girlfriend, as people who join dating sites are searching for a romantic partner and are ready to start a new relationship. So, if you think, “I need a girlfriend now!” dating sites are the first places you should go.

Also, here people share information about themselves and their dating preferences, so you can quickly determine whether the owner of the profile is a good match for you.

Another advantage of this way of meeting people is that you can choose secure platforms where you will be protected reliably from scammers and fraudsters. And it’s very important if you are stranger to building a relationship online. Read this article to get more information about anti-scam protection – VictoriaBrides.com Review – Dating Site that Worth to Try in 2018.

Of course, you can also connect with people through sites which gather fans of a certain sport, hobby, online game, or TV show. If you are into such kind of things, you’ll probably find someone with whom you have a lot in common, but there’s no guarantee that this person will be open to a new relationship. Statistically, it’s easier to make new friends than a romantic partner on such sites.

Step one. Understand what kind of woman you are searching for

Choosing a dating site, you should understand what you are looking for. If you want to find another one-night stand or brief affair in your location, join dating apps like Tinder. If you are wondering how to find a good woman for marriage, pay attention to dating sites that focus on a meaningful relationship. Follow this link to get more information – http://datingreviewer.org/victoriabrides-review/.

If you are serious about relations, choose a woman who has the same level of attraction as yourself. Your perfect candidate should also be near your age range and share your values and interests.

Step two. Keep calm and join one of the popular online dating sites

Most single people waste a lot of time on trying to discover the reason for their loneliness. Please don’t go that way. Try to fix the situation, instead of asking yourself, “Why can’t I get a girlfriend?”

Start with creating an account on a dating site. If you don’t know how to do it, read this VictoriaBride review, in which the author clearly explains the process. The registration procedures are quite similar on different dating platforms, so this information will be helpful, even if you choose another site to join.

Here are two bits of advice I can give you:

  • Be honest when creating your dating profile. Don’t lie about your job or body type. The right woman will accept you for who you are. If you’re lying at the beginning you have a very little chance for a trustful loving relationship.
  • Describing yourself, try to be original and show your sense of humor.
  • Keep an open mind. Sometimes the profiles of your true soulmates don’t tell you that you might connect with these people. So, sometimes go chatting with women who don’t seem your best halves at first sight.

Step three. Choose the best pictures for your profile

Use a photo of good quality as a primary picture. Don’t upload a webcam one.

Groom yourself and dress up for this photo.

It’s a very important trick of how to find love online, as your profile picture as your chance to make a great first impression.

Step four. Read women’s profiles before sending the first message

What is a girlfriend? It’s a woman with whom you can build a trustful romantic relationship. So, you should have both physical and emotional connection with her. Make an effort to get to know the women you’ve met on a dating site. Start with reading their profile information. It helps you to create an original first message and allow you to stand out from hundreds of neglectful men.

Step five. Improve your communication skills

I have a friend who has never had an issue of how to find a date. He isn’t a handsome guy, but he is a perfect listener.

Show a genuine interest in your date’s life. Ask open questions and try to remember facts that your online dating partner shares with you. Treat her with respect and make compliments about the worth of her personality.

Keep in mind that it is one of the most important steps of this “How to find a girlfriend online” guideline. So, don’t be lazy. Improve your communication skills.

Step six. Take her on a date

If you are thinking of how to make a girlfriend fall in love with you, there is only one thing you should know – online communication will never replace meeting in person. Hugging, kissing, and hand-holding are the most delightful parts of a romantic relationship. So, if you’ve liked some lady, take her on a date.

Step seven. Keep trying whatever happens

Remember that only one man amongst the million is fortunate enough to meet a special woman on the first try. If you are looking for someone special online, you’ll probably meet dozens of people who are not just right for you. And it’s OK. Just keep trying – and one day you will meet the lady you have been looking for so long.

And if you need an additional motivation, just read this story – Finding style on VictoriaBrides.com in 2018.

So, now you know how to find a girlfriend on a dating site. Follow these instructions and never give up – and one day you will certainly meet your dream woman, as I did.

President Donald Trump Responds to Racism Accusations

Following a row broke out over the president’s alleged use of the word “s**thole” to describe African nations, Donald Trump has denied that he is racist.

President Trump reportedly used the term last week during a bipartisan Oval Office meeting on immigration reform.

“I am not a racist. I’m the least racist person you have ever interviewed,” he told reporters.

It is the first time President Trump has responded directly to the racism accusations.

Donald Trump made the denial to White House press pool reporters at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach in Florida on January 14.

The scandal broke out on January 11, when lawmakers from both parties visited the president to work on a proposal for a bipartisan immigration deal.

President Donald Trump Reportedly Lashes Out at Immigrants in Oval Office Outburst

African Union Demands Apology from President Donald Trump

In recent weeks the Trump administration has been withdrawing Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from a number of nationalities currently living in the US.

Reports later emerged in media that President Trump had asked during the meeting: “Why are we having all these people from s**thole countries come here?”

The president was said to have told them that instead of granting temporary residency to citizens of countries hit by natural disasters, war or epidemics, the US should be taking in immigrants from countries like Norway.

Accounts suggest that when President Trump was told that the largest groups of immigrants with the status were from El Salvador, Honduras and Haiti, the president responded: “Haitians? Do we need more Haitians?”

Donald Trump tweeted on January 12 that the language he used in the meeting was “tough” but disputed the wording of the reports.

The president also posted another tweet denying he had insulted Haitians, accusing Democrats of making it up.

However, Democratic Senator Dick Durbin stood by claims, and said that President Trump had used “hate-filled, vile and racist” language during the meeting.

Several senior Republican lawmakers at the meeting, including Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, have said they do not recall President Trump making the remark.

However, another Republican senator who was there, Lindsey Graham, did not deny the comments were made.

He said: “Following comments by the president, I said my piece directly to him yesterday. The president and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan said that President Donald Trump’s immigration comments were “very unfortunate” and “unhelpful”.

On January 14, when he was asked whether he thought the comments had made it harder to achieve any immigration deal, President Trump responded: “Have you seen what various senators said about my comments? They weren’t made.”

On January 12, the African Union demanded that the president apologize expressing their “shock, dismay and outrage” at the “clearly racist” remarks.

Meanwhile, the UN human rights spokesman, Rupert Colville, told a Geneva news briefing: “There is no other word one can use but racist. You cannot dismiss entire countries and continents as <<s**tholes>>.”

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) accused President Trump of falling “deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of racism and xenophobia”.

Several Democratic representatives have said they intend to skip Donald Trump’s State of the Union address later this month over the comments, accusing the president of racism.

5 Health Check-Ups You Need to Take Seriously

0

Like it or not, we aren’t immortal, and our bodies go through a process of wear and tear as we get older.  It’s therefore a good idea to have a quick check-up from time to time; and what better time than the New Year to book in for some routine check-ups.

Unlike a medical check-up at work, which you just want to sail through – particularly if it’s something like a drugs test… when looking at your personal health it’s best to have things flag up as early prevention makes most conditions much more treatable.  However, you may want to get a second opinion, as for example, there are 12 Things That Can Make You Fail A Drug Test such as tonic water due to the quinine in it – which goes to show that modern tests, just like doctors, are not infallible and it’s always best to get a second opinion.

EYE TEST

The majority of people today, particularly given the intensive use of computers, televisions, and mobile devices we all use require a little help to correct their sight; as we age the health of our eyes can start to deteriorate so it’s good to have a check-up, not just for glasses, but to confirm your holistic optical health and rule out conditions such as glaucoma.

HEARING TEST

The good news is hearing evaluations are one of the less invasive tests required, yet so many of us begin to lose the edge of our ability to hear others, which leads to severe and totally unavoidable communication issues.  The ability to communicate is so important, and if you are struggling with your hearing, then it’s a good idea to get a quick test – as it’ll be over in a jiffy and could save a lot of embarrassment down the line.  The other thing to note is that some hearing aids are now totally hidden within the ear itself.

ORAL HEALTH

Many of us fear visiting the dentist, and perhaps this is for good reason on the basis that nobody likes the invasive feeling of having fingers crammed into one’s mouth and sharp implements prodded around the gums resulting in the inevitably metalic taste of blood – but it’s much better to keep your oral health in check, rather than only access dentistry due to a problem such as toothache.

CHOLESTEROL

Given the processed diets we often find ourselves living on, out of convenience, a lot of us suffer with high levels of cholesterol  – which results in the arteries beginning to clog up, become furry, and eventually harden.  This is a major cause of heart disease, and if you do have high cholesterol, it’s something that should be addressed by a change in diet, sooner rather than later.  You can even order self-testing kits to measure your own cholesterol levels online.

CANCER CHECK-UP

We all feel a little timid to get sensitive parts of ourselves tested; particularly for something as significant as prostate cancer or breast cancer; but there’s no benefit in burying your head in the sand – as, unfortunately, ignorance is not bliss.

According to statistics, today, as many as 1 in 2 people will develop cancer at some point in their lives.  Of course, healthy living is the best tool to keep cancer at bay, but if you have reason to suspect something it’s best to get checked out.  The likelihood is you’ll have the all clear and benefit from a greater sense of peace of mind; but if something does come back positive, at least you are in the empowered position to treat it promptly; which is going to provide a much better outcome than leaving it for months or even years.

In summary prevention is better than cure, but in the alternative to this, early detection is going to seriously improve the chances of treating the issue with optimal results.

The Trouble Of Tech In Modern Politics

(Image Link)

Over the last couple of years, politics around the world have been going through some major change. For the first time in history, digital technology can have a real impact on an election, and it isn’t just in the voter’s booth. Nowadays, social media and other online tools are major influencers when it comes to this field, with people using them as their main sources of news during elections and other races. From the outside, this might not seem so bad, as it gives everyone access to information they need. But, of course, there has to be a dark side, and this post is going to be exploring it for you.

The single biggest issue with digital technology being mixed with politics is ignorance. A lot of people working in this field aren’t of a generation which has been exposed to computers for their entire lives, making it far too easy for them to miss key factors when using them. A great example of this comes in the form of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Without proper knowledge of the technology being used, her team illegally accessed government emails from a private server. While this blow didn’t see Mrs. Clinton in jail, it still had a huge impact on her success in 2016’s elections.

When you find ignorance in computing, you often find that things will be insecure and easy to access, as users simply don’t have the knowledge to keep their data safe. While most countries have mandatory training for users of government machines, this sort of learning is rarely taken seriously, and mistakes are still made. This sort of issue can lead to data theft or loss, and has even seen information accidently given away, in the past. Of course, though, there’s not much point in learning about security if computers go without updates, anyway, and a lot of businesses don’t go through this process.

Of course, the impact that technology has on the world of politics isn’t all bad. In fact, in a lot of countries, keeping up with this field is only possible thanks to the power of modern tech, as it provides information to everyone with a phone. Along with this benefit, though, a lot of people don’t realize that voting has gone digital in quite a few places. Using tools made by companies like Smartmatic, loads of places are now relying on the internet to handle their elections. Security issues aside, this sort of system offers the chance for people unable to vote to have their voices heard, while also making instant counting possible without having to involve a single human. A lot of people are seeing systems like these more and more often.

Hopefully, with all of this in mind, it should be nice and easy to understand the problems with technology in politics. While there are benefits to the way the world currently works, there are also plenty of negatives which have to be considered. Of course, though, you only have to worry if things start to get really bad.

Peru Hit by 7.1-Magnitude Earthquake

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake has hit the south-western Peru’s Pacific coast killing at least one person and injuring at least 65, as buildings collapsed.

The tremor struck at 04:18 local time, at a depth of 22 miles, 25 miles south-west of Acari.

Peru’s President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said rescue teams were on their way to verify the extent of the damage.

The areas affected are mainly rural and blocked roads are slowing down aid.

Early reports that 17 people were missing at a collapsed mine were later discounted.

Lactalis Salmonella Scandal: More than 12 Million Boxes of Baby Formula Recalled in 83 Countries

More than 12 million boxes of Lactalis baby formula have now been recalled in 83 countries in a salmonella scandal involving the French company.

Lactalis CEO Emmanuel Besnier confirmed the extent of the contamination risk to French media.

The dairy products have been subject to a recall since December, after salmonella bacteria was discovered at a factory.

Lawsuits have been filed by parents who say their children became unwell after drinking the formula.

According to the company, all the countries affected had been informed, in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa. However, the UK, US and Australia were not affected.

The Lactalis group is one of the world’s largest producers of dairy products, with annual sales of €17 billion ($21 billion). It has 246 production sites in 47 countries and employs 15,000 people in France alone.

Up to now, Lactalis has issued three recalls which cover its Picot, Milumel and Taranis brands.

According to specialists, salmonella can cause severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting, and severe dehydration. It can be life-threatening, especially in young children.

So far 35 cases have been reported in France and another one has been confirmed in Spain.

Another possible case is being investigated in Greece, French authorities said on January 12.

In an exclusive interview in French newspaper Journal du Dimanche, Lactalis chief executive Emmanuel Besnier denied the company had attempted to hide the outbreak at the plant.

He said: “There are complaints and there will be an investigation with which we will fully collaborate.”

Emmanuel Besnier also promised Lactalis would compensate any families affected.

The company has said they believe the contamination was caused by renovation work at their Celia factory in Craon, in north-west France.

France’s agriculture minister said products from the factory will be banned indefinitely whilst the investigation is still ongoing.

The government has warned Lactalis it must expect penalties over its handling of the affair.

On January 11, the government also threatened to impose sanctions against retailers, after it emerged that several major supermarket chains had continued to sell products that could have been contaminated.

Mark Wahlberg Donates $1.5 Million to Time’s Up Defense Fund After Pay Controversy

Mark Wahlberg has donated $1.5 million to the Time’s Up legal defense fund.

The move comes after it emerged that the actor was paid $1.5 million to reshoot scenes for All The Money in the World.

Mark Wahlberg’s female co-star, Michelle Williams, was paid $80 a day for the extra work.

Scenes had to be reshot after Kevin Spacey was removed from the completed movie following the allegations of assault and inappropriate behavior against him.

The Time’s Up legal defense fund will offer support to people who have experienced harassment, abuse or assault in the workplace.

The campaign is a movement against harassment that was founded at the start of January as a response to recent harassment allegations in the media, film, and broadcasting.

Kevin Spacey Fired from House of Cards

The issue of harassment and abuse has risen in prominence after allegations were made in 2017 against figures such as Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.

In December 2017, Time magazine named the “Silence Breakers” as its “Person of the Year”.

The “Silence Breakers” were women and men who spoke out against abuse and harassment.

In 2017, the #MeToo hashtag led to women and men from all walks of life opening up on social media about their experiences of these issues.

Last week, at the Golden Globes awards ceremony, stars such as Oprah Winfrey spoke candidly about the discrimination that women face.

The issue of the equal pay and a “gender pay gap” has become a prominent issue across many sectors in recent months.

President Donald Trump Is in Excellent Health After Physical Exam, White House Doctor Says

President Donald Trump is in “excellent health”, his White House physician has announced.

Donald Trump, 71, underwent his first medical check-up since becoming president.

Dr. Ronny Jackson said in a brief statement that the three-hour examination of the president on January 12, conducted by military doctors, had gone “exceptionally well”.

The White House physician promised further details on January 16.

No psychiatric tests were planned but Michael Wolff’s recent book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, fuelled speculation about the president’s mental health.

According to the author, all Donald Trump’s White House aides see him as a “child” who needs “immediate gratification”.

President Trump responded by saying Michael Wolff’s book was “full of lies”, while Secretary of State Rex Tillerson dismissed suggestions the president’s mental health was failing.

The health status announcement echoed the words of President Trump’s own long-time doctor, Harold Bornstein, in a pre-election assessment in December 2015, when he declared his client would be the “healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency”.

Fire and Fury: Michael Wolff’s Donald Trump Book Goes on Sale Days Ahead Its Scheduled Release

Doctors assessed President Trump on January 12 at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Among them was Dr. Ronny Jackson, whose official title is Physician to the President.

A rear admiral in the US Navy, Dr. Ronny Jackson also tended to Donald Trump’s predecessor, President Barack Obama.

In the run-up to January 12 check-up, the White House made clear that it would focus on the president’s physical health.

It is up to the White House what data, if any, it reveals about President Trump’s condition.

The White House has a long history of picking and choosing what to reveal about its occupant’s health, Barbara Perry, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center, was quoted as saying by Reuters.

President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963), Barbara Perry pointed out, disclosed war injuries but not the fact that he suffered from Addison’s disease, a degenerative condition.

Experts have been baffled by the capacity of an overweight Donald Trump to consume large amounts of fast-food and appear to take minimal exercise, while staying fit.

A recent book, Let Trump Be Trump, claimed Donald Trump had “four major food groups” during his campaign, which were McDonald’s, fried chicken, pizza, and Diet Coke.

Co-authored by Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, the book said the president could eat “two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish, and a chocolate malted (milkshake)” for dinner.

Hawaii False Missile Strike Alert Sparks Panic

A missile alert sparked panic among residents of Hawaii on January 13 before it was declared to be false.

Mobile phone users received a message saying: “Ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill.”

Hawaii Governor David Ige apologized to people, saying an employee had pressed the wrong button.

Meanwhile, the US government announced there would be a full investigation.

An alert system is in place because of the potential proximity of Hawaii to North Korean missiles.

Last month, Hawaii tested its nuclear warning siren for the first time since the end of the Cold War.

According to the Associated Press, a push alert was sent to people’s phones.

The phone message, all in capital letters, went out at 08:07 local time.

The message was corrected by email 18 minutes later but there was no follow-up mobile text for 38 minutes, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.

Hawaii Activates Nuclear Attack Warning Siren for First Time since Cold War

In a tweet, Hawaii’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) said simply: “NO missile threat to Hawaii.”

TV and radio broadcasts across the state were also interrupted with a recorded emergency message: “Stay indoors!

“If you are outdoors seek immediate shelter in a building. Remain indoors well away from windows. If you are driving pull safely to the side of the road and seek shelter in a building while laying on the floor. We’ll announce when the threat has ended. This is not a drill!”

Matt Lopresti, a member of the Hawaiian House of Representatives, was at home when he received the emergency alert on his mobile phone.

He described how he and his family had sought shelter in a bath tub.

He told local broadcaster KGMB: “We got our children, grabbed our emergency supplies, put them in our most enclosed room in our house which is our bathroom.

“We put them in the bath tub, said our prayers, tried to find out what the Hell was going because we didn’t hear any alarms, any of the sirens.

“There’s not much else you can do in that situation. You know, we did what we could… and I am very angry right now because it shouldn’t be this easy to make such a big mistake.”

The US military confirmed no missile threat had been detected and the alert had been released in error.

Ajit Pai, chairman of the US Federal Communications Commission, announced an investigation.

He tweeted: “The @FCC is launching a full investigation into the false emergency alert that was sent to residents of Hawaii.”

North Korea’s missile and nuclear program is seen as a growing threat to America. Hawaii is one of the American states closest to North Korea.

In September, North Korea carried out its sixth nuclear test.

In December, the Star-Advertiser reported that a missile launched from North Korea could strike Hawaii within 20 minutes of launch.

African Union Demands Apology from President Donald Trump

The African Union has demanded that President Donald Trump apologize after he reportedly called nations on the continent “shitholes”.

The organization’s mission in Washington DC expressed its “shock, dismay and outrage” and said the Trump administration misunderstood Africans.

President Trump made the alleged remark in a meeting on immigration on January 11.

However, the president has denied using the language reported.

President Trump has been backed by two Republicans who were at the White House meeting, but Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said Donald Trump called African countries “shitholes” several times and used “racist” language.

On January 12, President Trump tweeted that his language he used at the private meeting with lawmakers to discuss immigration legislation had been “tough”.

However, he added that the words attributed to him were “not the language used”.

The African Union said the “remarks dishonor the celebrated American creed and respect for diversity and human dignity”.

The organization representing African countries added: “While expressing our shock, dismay and outrage, the African Union strongly believes that there is a huge misunderstanding of the African continent and its people by the current Administration.

“There is a serious need for dialogue between the US Administration and the African countries.”

It represents 55 member states throughout the African continent. The group succeeded the Organization of African Unity – which originated in the decolonization struggles of the early 1960s – in 2002.

President Trump’s remarks were allegedly made when lawmakers visited him on January 11 to discuss a bipartisan proposal that would impose new restrictions on immigration but protect the so-called “Dreamers” – hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the US illegally as children – from deportation.

The president was said to have told them that instead of granting temporary residency to citizens of countries hit by natural disasters, war or epidemics, the US should instead be taking in migrants from countries like Norway.

The Washington Post quoted President Trump as saying: “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

Senator Dick Durbin said that when President Trump was told that the largest groups of immigrants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) were from El Salvador, Honduras and Haiti, the president responded: “Haitians? Do we need more Haitians?”

However, in another tweet on January 12, President Trump denied that he insulted Haitians.

On January 11, many media outlets reported President Trump’s comments, quoting witnesses or people briefed on the meeting. However, the White House did not deny them.

Mega Millions Jackpot Claimed by 20-Year-Old Port Richey Man

Shane Missler from Florida has been named the sole winner of the $451 million Mega Millions jackpot.

The 20-year-old says he plans to “have some fun” after opted to receive a one-time payment of $282 million, instead of the full amount over a longer period of time.

Shane Missler matched five numbers and a bonus ball to scoop the fourth largest win in the US game’s history.

He said he had a feeling he could win on the night of the Mega Millions draw, says a press release.

Minutes after the draw a week ago Shane Missler posted on Facebook: “Oh. My. God.”

Shane Missler presented his winning ticket at the state lottery headquarters in Tallahassee on January 12, accompanied by his father and a lawyer.

According to the statement, he said: “I’m only 20, but I hope to use it to pursue a variety of passions, help my family and do some good for humanity.”

Shane Missler told the Tampa Bay Times: “I intend to take care of my family, have some fun along the way and cement a path for financial success so that I can leave a legacy far into the future.”

He had “retired” from his job at a company that carried out employment background checks, his lawyers say.

Shane Missler bought the winning ticket at a 7-Eleven in his hometown of Port Richey, 40 miles north of Tampa, using a “Quick Pick” option that selects the numbers randomly.

The winning numbers were 28, 30, 39, 59, and 70 with a “Mega Ball” of 10.

Healthy And Hopeful – Keeping Fit To Keep Cancer At Bay

0

Photo

Staying healthy is probably one of the most frequently quoted New Year’s resolutions. AIing to get fit and stay fit or just put an end to our vices is something many of us strive for. But there is a far more severe reason we should all be looking to improve our health.

Prevention estimates announced recently by the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) stated that, eating a varied and healthy diet, taking part in regular physical activity, staying a healthy weight while limiting alcohol intake, could prevent as many as 340,000 cases of cancer in United States each year.

Get Screened Regularly

These tests can catch some cancers early and when they are small and contained, making them easier to treat. As for cervical and colon cancers, early screening can even prevent these diseases from developing to start with. You should speak to your medical practitioner for details about the procedure to test for breast, cervical, colon, lung, and prostate cancers. September was designated National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month following the 2008 Senate Resolution cosponsored by Republican  Senator Mike Crapo, a two-time survivor of cancer himself.

Watch Your Weight

You should aim to control your weight through regular exercise and healthy eating as being overweight is a risk factor for many cancers.

Keep Moving

Physical activity of any sort has been seen to lower the risk of several types of cancer, including breast, prostate, and colon. Keeping active also reduces the risk of other life-threatening diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

Adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity; this is the equivalent of a brisk walk. Alternatively, you could seek for 75 minutes each week of vigorous exercise, something that makes your heartbeat as well as breathing faster, and makes you break a  sweat. This activity is most beneficial when spread out through the week and not all at once. Children should be active for at least 1 hour of moderate or vigorous exercise every day, aiming for the vigorous activity at least three times a week.

You Are What You Eat

Eating a variety of different fruit and vegetables, as well as whole grains, fish or poultry,  has shown to lower risk of developing certain cancers whereas consuming a diet high in processed foods and red meat is associated with a higher risk of certain cancers.

The recommendations from the American Cancer Society are that you should aim to eat 2½ cups of fruit and vegetables every day. Try to eat less red meat such as beef, pork, and lamb. It is beneficial to reduce intake of processed meat too like bacon, sausage, luncheon meats, and hot dogs. Choose bread, pasta, and cereals derived from whole grains as well as brown rice. Consume less sugary treats.

Stop Smoking

Tobacco in the USA is responsible for almost 1 in every five deaths – about 480,000 premature deaths every year. Approximately 80% of lung cancer deaths and an incredible 30% of all cancer mortality is caused by tobacco intake.

Banish The Booze

Research shows alcohol can increase the risk of certain cancers. The more alcohol you partake of, the higher your risk. Men should limit themselves to no more than two drinks per day, women no more than one. That one drink is the equivalent of 12 ounces of beer or 5 ounces of wine.

No one can predict who will get cancer, though employing a healthy regime can only help to reduce the risk and stay healthy if diagnosed with any form of cancer.

President Donald Trump Reportedly Lashes Out at Immigrants in Oval Office Outburst

According to recent reports, President Donald Trump has lashed out at immigrants in a foul-mouthed Oval Office outburst that a UN spokesman later condemned as “shocking”, “shameful” and “racist”.

President Trump reportedly asked lawmakers during talks on an immigration deal: “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

According to reports, the president was apparently referring to Haiti, El Salvador and African countries.

However, the White House made no attempt to deny the comment.

In recent weeks, the Trump administration has been trying to limit the number of family members of immigrants who can enter the United States, and has moved to end the protected status of thousands of immigrants already in the US.

President Trump’s reported remark came as lawmakers from both parties visited him on January 11 to propose a bipartisan immigration deal.

According to media, Democratic Senator Richard Durbin had just been discussing US temporary residency permits granted to citizens of countries hit by natural disasters, war or epidemics.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post reported that President Trump told lawmakers the US should instead be taking in migrants from countries like Norway, whose prime minister visited him a day earlier.

The newspaper quoted the president as saying: “Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out.”

President Trump Signs New Immigration Executive Order

Donald Trump Fires Acting Attorney General Sally Yates for Criticizing Immigration Order

South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was in January 11 meeting at the White House, but would not comment on the president’s reported slur.

A statement from White House spokesman Raj Shah said: “Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people.

“Like other countries that have merit-based immigration, President Trump is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute to our society, grow our economy and assimilate into our great nation.

“He will always reject temporary, weak and dangerous stopgap measures that threaten the lives of hardworking Americans, and undercut immigrants who seek a better life in the United States through a legal pathway.”

In response, UN human rights spokesman Rupert Colville said: “If confirmed these are shocking and shameful comments from the president of the United States, I’m sorry but there is no other word for this but racist.”

The UN official spoke of a 2016 presidential campaign speech in which Donald Trump called Mexican immigrants criminals and rapists, and to his response last year to a white supremacist march that ended in violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, when the president said “both sides” were to blame.

Rupert Colville said such comments went against “universal values the world has been striving for” since the end of World War Two, and opened “the door to humanity’s worst side”.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) accused President Trump of falling “deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of racism and xenophobia”.

Mia Love, a Utah Republican and the only Haitian-American in Congress, demanded President Trump apologize for the “unkind, divisive, elitist” comments.

The Washington Post broke the story with the word “shithole” in its headline and in the alert that the newspaper sent out to followers’ smartphones.

Fox News used asterisks to obscure the offensive word along the bottom of the screen, but CNN and MSNBC carried it in full.

Lawmakers reportedly proposed restoring so-called Temporary Protected Status (TPS) permits for certain countries, allowing their residents leave to remain in the United States because their home countries are temporarily unsafe for them.

In return, they were said to have offered $1.5 billion for a wall that President Trump wants built on the US border with Mexico.

This week the Trump administration announced it was withdrawing TPS for more than 200,000 people from El Salvador.

The decision gives Salvadoreans who have been living in the US for nearly three decades until next year to leave, seek lawful residency or face possible deportation.

People from El Salvador were granted provisional US residency after an earthquake devastated the Central American country in 2001.

#MeToo: James Franco Accused of Inappropriate Behavior by Five Women

Actor James Franco has been accused of inappropriate behavior by five women, including students from his acting school.

Four of James Franco’s former students and an actress who said the actor was her mentor told the LA Times they were victims of “an abuse of power”.

The latest accusations come after claims against James Franco on social media following his best actor win at this year’s Golden Globe awards.

James Franco, 39, said the earlier allegations made on Twitter were “not accurate”.

On January 7, James Franco attended the Globes ceremony wearing a Time’s Up pin on his lapel, signaling his support for an initiative aimed at combating harassment in the film industry and other workplaces.

That prompted accusations of inappropriate behavior against him on Twitter from actresses Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Violet Paley.

On January 11, Sarah Tither-Kaplan told LA Times that James Franco participated in an “abuse of power” on film sets designed to create a “culture of exploiting non-celebrity women”.

James Franco taught a number of acting classes at two film schools opened in 2014, both named Studio 4.

His attorney, Michael Plonsker, told the LA Times that the actor disputes the allegations.

Actress Ally Sheedy was among those to question James Franco’s appearance at the Globes, where he won an award for his role in The Disaster Artist, which details the making of notorious 2003 film The Room.

Ally Sheedy posted a series of cryptic tweets during the ceremony, one of which asked: “Why is James Franco allowed in?”

“James Franco just won,” another of her now deleted posts read.

“Please never ever ask me why I left the film/tv business.”

Rose McGowan, a prominent campaigner against inappropriate behavior in the entertainment industry, said on Twitter that Hollywood had been “selectively deaf” about James Franco.

This year’s ceremony saw several winners address Hollywood’s abuse scandal in their acceptance speeches.

Many attendees opted to wear black to express solidarity with victims of abuse and harassment.

Trump Administration to Allow Medicaid Work Requirement

President Donald Trump’s administration has issued new guidance that would allow states to impose work requirements on low-income healthcare recipients.

According to the document, able-bodied recipients of the Medicaid health program for the poor would be required to work, volunteer or prepare for a job through school or training.

However, critics argue that the move is aimed at cutting the number of people receiving government-funded Medicaid.

The administration contends the policy is to promote “community engagement”.

Seema Verma, administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said: “This is about helping those individuals rise out of poverty.

“Our fundamental goal is to make a positive and lasting difference in the health and wellness of our beneficiaries, and today’s announcement is a step in that direction.”

Seema Verma said the new policy came about at the request of 10 different states including Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, Arizona, Indiana and Utah.

ObamaCare Repeal: Senate Votes to Start Debating New Republican Healthcare Bill

ObamaCare Repeal Bill: Some 22 Million Americans Could Lose Health Insurance over Next Decade

The new guidance also suggests considering exemptions or “reasonable modifications” for certain Medicaid recipients, including elderly, pregnant or disabled people; those in areas with high unemployment or people caring for children or elderly relatives; people with substance abuse disorders such as opioid addiction.

It states that a review of studies showed, “strong evidence that unemployment is generally harmful to health, including higher mortality; poorer general health; poorer mental health; and higher medical consultation and hospital admission rates”.

The report also states that people with a full-time job are less likely to suffer from depression.

As of October 2017, nearly 75 million individuals were enrolled in Medicaid and the children’s health insurance program (CHIP).

According to a study by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, almost 60% of working-age Medicaid recipients are already employed full time or part time.

It is unclear how many Medicaid recipients who are actively seeking work may lose their insurance in the process if their state should choose to enact the new guidelines.

Several members of Congress were outspoken against the decision.

Under President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, ObamaCare, 31 states expanded Medicaid coverage. Republicans have tried repeatedly to overturn the health law.

The Obama Administration had previously rebuffed proposals allowing states the right to impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients, arguing it would result in fewer people having access to health insurance.

In order to implement any new policy based on the guidance, states would have to propose the changes through waivers and wait until they are granted federal approval.

How to deliver an effective presentation

0

Whatever your career path, it is important that you understand how to deliver an effective presentation. Whether you’re expected to give routinely presentations or if you’re preparing for suddenly being thrown into the deep end one day, knowing how to present yourself and the right, relevant information can be crucial. No one wishes to be caught off-guard, and for some, presenting can be completely nerve-wracking. No matter your skillset, it is still possible for you to ace your upcoming presentation. Below are four tips that will guide you through this process.

Be prepared

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. That is the mantra that you should have in mind when it comes to getting ready for your presentation. The more you prepare, the easier it will be for you to impress your audience. That is why you should use an online flash card maker to organize your points. You should also think about making handouts, as this will save your audience from having to take notes and will give them the chance to focus on what you are saying.

Image result for presentation

Use plenty of interesting visuals

Although it is important not to distract your audience with too much text, you should be using plenty of images to capture their attention. If you are delivering a PowerPoint presentation, ideally you should have one large image on each slide. This is also true if you are using presentation boards or a projection screen. Simplicity is key if you are going to get your message across.

Encourage audience participation

If you are going to prevent the room from switching off during your presentation, you will need to encourage audience participation. Perhaps you could ask your listeners thought provoking questions throughout your speech. Another idea is to ask your audience members to work with the person next to them on a short exercise. This will save them from sitting in silence and will give you a quiet moment to collect your thoughts. Finally, you should leave plenty of time for questions at the end of your talk. You need to make this clear at the start of your presentation so that everyone has time to think of one to ask. You could even stage a few questions beforehand so that you don’t have to suffer through any awkward silences.

Use technology to your advantage

If you determined to establish yourself as an innovative and interesting speaker, it is important that you use technology to your advantage. Instead of using a simple PowerPoint, you should experiment with a Prezi Presentation. You could even give members of your audience tablets or ask them to text in their questions. Exploring the many uses of technology will help you to ensure your presentation stands out from the crowd. Just make sure that you have plenty of run-throughs before the big day. You should also have a back-up plan that doesn’t rely as heavily on technology, as this will be essential if anything goes wrong at the last minute.

Ten Steps to Expanding Your Business Internationally

0

With technology making our world smaller every day, going global has never been more vital in business. But where do you start? Here are ten highly recommended steps for that crucial expansion.

business

  1. Research Your Target

Every country you want to conquer has a unique sets of rules and traditions. Research what’s important to those customers, what they’re looking for and how your product or service fits in with that.

  1. Make a New Business Plan

This is very new territory for your company, so the original documents likely won’t cut it. Get to know the market; your sources as well as import and export prices and all additional costs, so you can be as prepared as possible.

  1. Develop Short, Mid & Long-Term Goals

Expanding internationally is a massive project. Keep yourself and your team on track with a variety of time-goals. This will also help you to prioritize important tasks.

  1. Embrace New Tech

The progress of new technology is remarkably fast. Keeping up with key developments will provide more avenues for sales, communication and innovation. It will also help you keep in touch with distant branches with ease.

  1. Take Advantage of Seasonal Differences

If you’re expanding across hemispheres – great! Use the opposing seasons to your advantage to get rid of stock or present a new line.

  1. Connect With Local Businesses

Foster relationships with businesses in the local area to improve your reputation and to get a helping hand when you need it.

  1. Taxes and Laws

Get clued-up on local laws and financial obligations. Legal processes could be more strict or more lapse, but knowing them will save you both time and money.

  1. Hire Carefully

Overseas branches can’t be monitored as closely as those at home, so make sure you know who’s in charge. It can be difficult to judge personalities in another culture, get professional advice if necessary.

  1. Be Physically Present

As much as new technology allows us to have meetings from anywhere in the world together, being physically present has its advantages. Turn up and get stuck in, you’ll gain a better understanding of your company for it.

  1. Protect Your IPR

Your Intellectual Property Rights may not be covered in certain countries, so it’s wise to check out how this works in your target area.

Overall, being prepared is key to any major development in your company. Conducting thorough research, alongside seeking advice and guidance when you require it will put you on a solid path to start your expansion. You may be managing the project, but you can’t do it alone – which is why it’s so important to have a great time both at home and overseas. Regardless of the market you wish to enter, Whether you’re SEO consultants in Germany or a law firm based in Arizona, the pattern remains – those who do their homework beforehand always have better luck at getting their foot in the door.

Logan Paul Removed from YouTube’s Google Preferred over Japan Suicide Video

Logan Paul, the hugely popular vlogger who posted a video showing the body of an apparent suicide victim in Japan, has been banned by YouTube.

His channels were removed from YouTube’s Google Preferred program, where brands sell ads on the top 5% of the platform’s content creators.

YouTube also said it had put on hold original projects with Logan Paul.

Logan Paul posted the video with a man’s body on December 31, triggering widespread criticism.

The video showed Logan Paul and his friends at the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mount Fuji, known to be a frequent site of suicides.

Going in to film the “haunted” forest, they come across a man’s body and are shocked but also make jokes.

Online comments have called the video, which garnered millions of views on YouTube before it was taken down, “disrespectful” and “disgusting”.

Logan Paul, who has more than 15 million subscribers on YouTube, later posted an apology on Twitter, saying he had been “misguided by shock and awe”.

The vlogger also uploaded a video apology, and said: “I should have never posted the video. I should have put the cameras down and stopped recording what we were going through.”

“I’m ashamed of myself,” he added.

“I’m disappointed in myself.”

Japan has one of the highest rates of suicide in the developed world.

Aokigahara has a reputation in Japan and internationally as a destination for people who want to kill themselves.

Data on the number of suicides there each year is not made public, to avoid publicizing the site. Signs are posted in the forest urging people to seek medical help rather than take their lives.
