Pro wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper, known for wearing a kilt in the ring, has died on July 31 at the age of 61.
Born Roderick Toombs in Saskatchewan, Canada, Rowdy Roddy Piper was one of the main stars of the wrestling circuit from the mid-1980s.
During his career, Roddy Piper won more than 30 titles and was inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2005.
His death comes a month after that of Dusty Rhodes, another Hall of Fame member, aged 69.
The cause of Rowdy Roddy Piper’s death was not revealed. He had successfully fought Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2006.
“Roddy Piper was one of the most entertaining, controversial and bombastic performers ever in WWE,” said chairman Vince McMahon.
He was best known for his rivalry with Hulk Hogan and together they headlined some of wrestling’s biggest events.
Hulk Hogan and his partner, Mr. T, beat Roddy Piper and his partner, “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff at the first WrestleMania at Madison Square Garden in March 1985.
Cast as a villain early in his career, Roddy Piper once cracked a coconut over the head of one of his rivals, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka.
Roddy Piper gained praise after branching out into acting, starring in the cult 1988 film They Live.
King Salman of Saudi Arabia has decided to cut short his luxury trip to France, where the closure of a French Riviera beach for his security caused uproar.
King Salman unexpectedly flew on to Morocco after only eight days of what was planned as a three-week stay, officials said.
With the king was at least half of his 1,000-strong entourage, regional official Philippe Castanet added.
More than 100,000 people signed a petition against the closure of the public beach at Vallauris.
The Mirandole beach is directly below King Salman’s private villa and French officials agreed to seal it off for the monarch’s security.
Critics of the move said it was a breach of French laws on equality.
A Saudi source quoted by Reuters said King Salman’s departure was part of his vacation program and not connected to the media coverage the visit had attracted.
It is not clear if the king plans to return to the villa this summer.
Philippe Castanet told AFP news agency that the beach would reopen to the public on August 3.
He said a temporary lift connecting the beach with the villa – which had also angered local residents – would be removed in the coming weeks.
Building the lift had involved pouring a large concrete slab on the sand.
The royal party generated mixed emotions among the local population.
While some were unhappy at the closure of the beach, many traders warmly welcomed King Salman and his wealthy entourage.
President Barack Obama will unveil the revised Clean Power Plan on Monday, August 3.
The new plan’s objective is to cut greenhouse gas emissions from US power stations by nearly a third within 15 years.
The measures will place significant emphasis on wind and solar power and other renewable energy sources.
However, opponents in the energy industry have vowed to fight the plan.
They say Barack Obama has declared “a war on coal”. Power plants fired by coal provide more than a third of the US electricity supply.
The revised plan will aim to cut carbon emissions from the power sector by 32% by 2030, compared with 2005 levels.
Each US state will have an emission-cutting goal assigned to it and must submit a proposal to the Environmental Protection Agency on how it will meet the target.

The measures would give the president the moral authority he needs to argue for global reductions in greenhouse gases at a major conference in Paris later this year.
However, several state governors are already saying they will simply ignore the plans.
In face of the criticism, the White House said the release of the plan was “the starting gun for an all-out climate push” by the president and his cabinet.
In a video released by the White House, Barack Obama said the new limits were backed up by decades of data showing that without action the world faced more extreme weather and escalating health problems.
“Climate change is not a problem for another generation. Not anymore,” the president said.
“My administration will release the final version of America’s Clean Power Plan, the biggest, most important step we have ever taken to combat climate change.”
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said she would defend the plan if she was elected to replace Barack Obama.
“It will need defending. Because Republican doubters and defeatists – including every Republican candidate for president – won’t offer any credible solution,” she said.
“The truth is, they don’t want one.”
One Republican presidential candidate, Marco Rubio, said the plan would be “catastrophic,” while another, former Florida governor Jeb Bush, said the plan was “irresponsible and over-reaching”.
Correspondents say the emphasis on renewable energy sources marks a significant shift from the earlier version of the plan that sought to speed up a transition from coal-fired power to natural gas plants, which emit less carbon dioxide.
It is believed the revised plan will aim to keep the share of natural gas in US power generation at current levels.
Power stations are the largest source of greenhouse gases in the US and account for about one third of all such US emissions.
A second American, named as Jan Casmir Sieski, is wanted in Zimbabwe over the illegal killing of a lion, as the outcry over the death of famous Cecil the lion continues.
Jan Casmir Sieski, a doctor from Pennsylvania, killed a lion in April, the National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority said.
A Zimbabwean landowner has since been arrested, the agency said.
Cecil the lion was shot illegally in July by American dentist Walter Palmer of Minnesota. Zimbabwe is seeking his extradition.
The National Parks authority gave little information on the new case, but said on August 2 that the killing of the lion had taken place without a permit.
It said the hunt had been arranged by a Zimbabwean man who owned a safari company.
The authority said in a statement that it had agreed to “undertake an industry-wide investigation to crack down and weed out any illegal hunting activities”, but it was not clear if the latest case had emerged from that investigation.
A Pennsylvania address said to be Jan Casmir Sieski’s was listed in the latest release, but no further details have emerged.
Walter Palmer is believed to have paid about $50,000 to hunt Cecil, a major tourist attraction in the Hwange National Park.
The dentist says he thought the hunt was legal and was unaware Cecil was protected.
There has been a huge online backlash against Walter Palmer.

Lynn Anderson has died in hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 67.
She was best known for her worldwide 1971 hit (I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden.
The country singer had been in hospital after suffering a heart attack on July 30.
The Grammy-winning singer had just returned from Italy and was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia.
Born in North Dakota and raised in Sacramento, California, Lynn Anderson was the daughter of two country songwriters and started performing at the age of six.
In 1967, Lynn Anderson began a two-year television engagement on The Lawrence Welk Show, which led to a contract with Columbia Records in Nashville, the capital of country music.
She won a Grammy award for Rose Garden and was the Country Music Association’s female vocalist of the year in 1971.
“It was popular because it touched on emotions,” she told AP.
“It was perfectly timed. It was out just as we came out of the Vietnam years and a lot of people were trying to recover. This song stated that you can make something out of nothing. You take it and go ahead.”
Alongside her singing career, Lynn Anderson made a number of TV appearances with stars including Lucille Ball, Bing Crosby and John Wayne.
Lynn Anderson also appeared in episodes of the cop show Starsky and Hutch.
Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have announced via Facebook that they are expecting a baby girl.
Facebook founder wrote on his page: “Priscilla and I have some exciting news: we’re expecting a baby girl!”
In his post, Mark Zuckerberg, 31, revealed that they had suffered three miscarriages previously, but added that the risk of miscarrying at this stage of the pregnancy was low.

A PKK suicide attack has killed two Turkish security troops and wounded other 24 near the town of Dogubayazit in Agri province, close to Turkey’s border with Iran, the regional governor’s office says.
A tractor laden with explosives was driven at a military police station, reports by Turkish media say.
Since July 24, Turkey has carried out hundreds of air raids on PKK bases on both sides of the Iraq-Turkey border.
The Turkish state news agency, Anadolu, said that the attack happened at around 03:00 local time.
It said that the tractor was carrying two tons of explosives that were detonated by a suicide bomber.
Images in the Turkish press showed a badly-damaged building with the roof destroyed.
The regional governor did not say how the PKK had been identified as the group behind the blast. The PKK has not commented.
AFP said it would be the first time the Kurdish militants were accused of deploying a suicide bomber during recent clashes.
Turkey’s official news agency says about 260 Kurdish fighters have been killed in strikes in northern Iraq and Turkey since July 24. It has also targeted positions held by the Islamic State group, known as ISIS.
Further Turkish air raids were reported early on Saturday, this time in the Rawanduz area east of Erbil, capital of Iraq’s Kurdish region.
At least six people were killed and several more wounded in the town of Zarkel, local officials said. They reportedly included at least two women.
Turkey considers both the PKK and ISIS terrorist organizations.
The PKK was established in 1978 and called for an independent state within Turkey – a country that now has 15 million Kurds.
In 1984, the PKK began an armed struggle.
Since then, more than 40,000 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands displaced, but in 2012, the government and PKK began peace talks and the following year a ceasefire was agreed.

“I told her that Whitney is going to haunt her from the grave,” Leolah Brown told reporters outside the church.
Leolah Brown suggested that the feud between the Houstons and the Browns was far from over.
“It’s just getting started,” she said before going back inside the church.
For years, there’s been a longstanding rift between the families of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s famous mother and father. Bobby Brown briefly appeared at Whitney Houston’s funeral three years ago, saying he and his children were seated but asked repeatedly to move. Bobby Brown said he left because he didn’t want to create a scene, but was upset.
Bobbi Kristina’s death was grimly similar to the way her mother had died three years earlier.
Whitney Houston’s assistant found the pop icon’s lifeless body face-down in a foot of water in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel just before the Grammy Awards in 2012. Authorities found prescription drugs in the suite, and evidence of heart disease and cocaine in her body, but determined her death was an accidental drowning.
Her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, was found in the Atlanta home she shared with Nick Gordon, an orphan three years older, whom Whitney Houston had raised as her own. A police report earlier this year described the incident as a drowning, and authorities are investigating her death.
Relations between Nick Gordon and other relatives have soured over the past few years, especially after Bobbi Kristina Brown was hospitalized. A protective order barred him from being within 200 feet of Pat Houston. And a feud erupted over whether Nick Gordon could visit Bobbi Kristina Brown while she stayed in the hospital.
Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard said he and his office are interested in reviewing the investigative file to determine whether any charges will be filed.

Snoop Dogg has been stopped by the Italian police while carrying $422,000 in cash, authorities say.
The rap star, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was travelling through an airport in Calabria, southern Italy, where he had been performing.
Sums of more than €10,000 ($11,000) must be declared by anyone travelling through airports in the European Union.
Italian police stopped Snoop Dogg on July 31 as he prepared to board a private plane bound for Britain with $422,000 in cash in his Louis Vuitton luggage, said an Italian lawyer representing the entertainer.
Last week, Snoop Dogg was stopped on suspicion of possessing drugs by police in Uppsala, Sweden.
He criticized what he said was “racial profiling” but Swedish police say they have yet to receive the results of tests to see whether Snoop Dogg had drugs in his system.
After stopping him on July 31 as he prepared to board a private plane, Italian police seized half of the $422,000 under money laundering laws, the state news agency Ansa reported.
It is now likely to be returned, with a fine deducted, the Italian financial police say.
Andrea Parisi, a lawyer representing Snoop Dogg, told Reuters: “We clarified everything from a legal point of view. The money came from concerts he had performed around Europe. There was no crime; it was just an administrative infraction.”
Snoop Dogg is scheduled to play the Kendal Calling festival in northern England on August 2.
The rapper has not responded to his latest detention and his current whereabouts are unconfirmed.

British Airways has announced it is cutting the cabin luggage allowance for customers on its flights.
The maximum size of main carry-on bags will remain unchanged, but smaller second bags such as handbags will be capped at 40x30x15cm, British Airways said.
British Airways said there had been “an increase in customers travelling with hand baggage that exceeds their allowance” in recent months.
The change will come into force “in the coming weeks”, the airline added.
Currently, passengers can board flights carrying one bag of up to 56x45x25cm, weighing up to 23kg, plus another bag up to 45x36x20cm.
A British Airways spokesman said the new guidelines – which apply to all customers – meant the latter changing “ever so slightly”.
He said overloading of hand baggage caused delays as staff removed bags from the cabin.
Last month, a teenager from Scotland collapsed with heat exhaustion after wearing 12 layers of clothing to avoid paying a £45 ($72) extra luggage fee.

Afghan militant leader Jalaluddin Haqqani died at least a year ago, the BBC reported.
It appears the founder of the Haqqani network died after a long illness and was buried in Afghanistan.
Rumors about Jalaluddin Haqqani’s death have circulated for some years and can still not be independently confirmed.
The latest report comes a day after the Taliban acknowledged that its leader, Mullah Omar, was dead.
Reports of Jalaluddin Haqqani’s death, quoting Taliban sources, also appeared in Pakistani media on July 31. One senior Afghan official said he had died six years ago.
The network has never confirmed the death of its founder.

However, a man linked to the family denied reports, telling the BBC that Jalaluddin Haqqani was still alive but ill.
The Haqqani network – based in the tribal regions of Pakistan with links to al-Qaeda and the Taliban – has been behind many of the co-ordinated attacks on Afghan and NATO forces in recent years.
Jalaluddin Haqqani’s son, Sirajuddin Haqqani, has long been thought to be in de facto control of the group and has just been announced as a deputy leader of the Taliban.
Jalaluddin Haqqani was an Afghan guerrilla leader who fought Soviet troops that occupied Afghanistan in 1980s.
US officials have admitted that at the time Jalaluddin Haqqani was a prized asset of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
However, Jalaluddin Haqqani later allied himself to the Taliban after they took power in Afghanistan in 1996.
Jalaluddin Haqqani served as a cabinet minister under the Taliban’s supreme leader, Mullah Omar.
The Haqqani network was one of several militant groups that operated from the tribal areas along the Afghan-Pakistan border following the US-led military campaign in Afghanistan, which began in 2001.
As the Haqqanis grew in strength, Pakistan’s security establishment was accused of secretly supporting the group, although it has strongly denied this.
Analysts say the Haqqani network has always been part of the Taliban and its members accepted Mullah Omar as their leader.
On July 30, the Taliban said they had appointed their deputy leader, Mullah Akhtar Mansour, as successor to Mullah Omar.
Correspondents say the move is likely to divide the group and that many senior figures opposed the appointment.
Dylan Roof, who is accused of murdering nine black churchgoers last month in Charleston, South Carolina, has pleaded not guilty on more than 33 federal charges.
Dylann Roof, 21, wanted to plead guilty on all counts according to his lawyer.
However, his lawyers entered a not guilty plea because the government has not decided whether to seek the death penalty.
Judge Bristow Marchant entered the not-guilty plea on all counts.
Dylann Roof, who is white, appeared in the courtroom shackled. He was silent except for a few “yes” responses to the judge’s inquiries.
The family members of victims of the June 17 attack also spoke briefly.
Ebola vaccine VSB- EBOV has led to 100% protection and could transform the way the virus is tackled, preliminary results suggest.
There were no proven drugs or vaccines against Ebola virus at the start of the largest outbreak of the disease in history, which began in Guinea in December 2013.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said the findings, being published in the Lancet, could be a “game-changer”.
Experts said the results were “remarkable”.
This trial centered on the VSV-EBOV vaccine, which was started by the Public Health Agency of Canada and then developed by the pharmaceutical company Merck.
It combined a fragment of the Ebola virus with another safer virus in order to train the immune system to beat Ebola.
A unique clinical trial took place in Guinea. When a patient was discovered, their friends, neighbors and family were vaccinated to create a “protective ring” of immunity.
One hundred patients were identified in the trial between April and July and then close contacts were either vaccinated immediately, or three weeks later.
In the 2,014 close contacts who were vaccinated immediately there were no subsequent cases of Ebola.
In those vaccinated later there were 16 cases, according to the results published in the Lancet medical journal.
The WHO says it is so far 100% effective, although that figure may change as more data is collected.
Close contacts of Ebola patients in Guinea will now be vaccinated immediately. Since the vaccine has been shown to be safe the process will also be extended to include children.
Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) is involved with this research, and is part of a parallel trial for frontline healthcare workers.
Medical director Bertrand Draguez said the Lancet results should spur instant action.

American dentist Walter Palmer, who killed Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe, should be extradited to face charges, Zimbabwe’s Environment Minister Oppah Muchinguri has said.
His extradition was being sought so that he could “be held accountable for his illegal action,” she said.
Walter Palmer, from Minnesota, is believed to have paid about $50,000 to hunt the lion.
He says he thought the hunt was legal and was unaware Cecil was protected.

At a news conference in the capital, Harare, Oppah Muchinguri referred to Walter Palmer as a “foreign poacher”.
“As we frantically try to protect our wildlife from organized gangs such as this one, there are people… who can connive to undermine Zimbabwean laws,” she said.
“One can conclude with confidence that Dr Palmer, being an American citizen, had a well-orchestrated agenda which would tarnish the image of Zimbabwe and further strain the relationship between Zimbabwe and the USA,” Oppah Muchinguri added.
She also said Walter Palmer’s use of a bow and arrow against Cecil was in contravention of Zimbabwean hunting regulations, Reuters reports.
Two Zimbabwean men have been implicated in the death of the lion.
A professional hunter has been charged with failing to prevent an illegal hunt – which he denies – and prosecutors are deciding on the exact charges the landowner should face.
There has been a huge online backlash against Walter Palmer. The dental practice he runs in Minneapolis has been closed since he was named as the hunter who shot Cecil.
On July 30, the White House said it would review a public petition to extradite the American dentist after more than 100,000 signed it.
However, spokesman Josh Earnest said it was up to the DoJ to respond to any extradition order.
Bobbi Kristina Brown’s funeral will be held on Saturday morning, August 1, Us Weekly reported.
The service was originally scheduled for Thursday, July 30, but, according to the publication, certain family members couldn’t make it that evening, prompting the rescheduling.
The funeral service will take place at St. James United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, Georgia. Those who were close to Bobbi Kristina Brown will say their goodbyes before she is buried two days later.

Zayn Malik has announced he signed a solo record deal with RCA Records months after leaving One Direction.
Zayn Malik, who quit earlier this year saying he wanted to be a “normal 22-year-old”, posted a picture of himself signing a contract with RCA Records.
The former One Direction singer tweeted: “I guess I never explained why I left, it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !!”

Former The Apprentice contestant Stuart “The Brand” Baggs has been found dead at his home on the Isle of Man, police have said. He was 27.
Stuart Baggs’ body was found by police after they were called to a property on Central Promenade in Douglas on July 30.
A police spokeswoman said the cause of death was “unknown” but not thought to be suspicious.
The Plymouth-born entrepreneur lived in the Isle of Man for most of his life and ran a telecommunications company.
Stuart Baggs was the youngest-ever candidate when he appeared on the BBC One show in 2010, at 21 years old.
Inspector Michelle McKillop said: “We can confirm that there was nothing in his room or anything about his condition that indicates to us any cause of death.
“Our thoughts go to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
There was “nothing to indicate that his death is criminally suspicious at this time”, and the death would be fully investigated on behalf of the coroner, a police spokeswoman added.

According to a new research, HIV can be flushed out of its hiding places in the body using PEP005 – one of the ingredients in a treatment to prevent cancer in sun-damaged skin.
The cornerstone of treatment, anti-retroviral therapy, kills the virus in the bloodstream but leaves “HIV reservoirs” untouched.
The study, published in PLoS Pathogens, showed PEP005 was “highly potent” at reactivating hidden HIV.
Experts said the findings were interesting, but it was important to know if PEP005 was safe in patients.
The power of the HIV reservoir was shown with the case of the Mississippi baby.
The baby girl was given antiretroviral drugs at birth. Despite appearing to be free of HIV for nearly two years after stopping treatment, she was found to be harboring the virus.
A strategy known as “kick and kill” is thought to be key to curing HIV – the kick would wake up the dormant HIV allowing the drugs to kill it.
The team at the Davis School of Medicine investigated PEP005. They tested the drug in cells grown in the laboratory and in parts of the immune system taken from 13 people with HIV.
The report said “PEP005 is highly potent in reactivating latent HIV” and that the chemical represents “a new group of lead compounds for combating HIV”.
One of the researchers, Dr, Satya Dandekar, said: “We are excited to have identified an outstanding candidate for HIV reactivation and eradication that is already approved and is being used in patients.
“This molecule has great potential to advance into translational and clinical studies.”
However, PEP005 has still not been tested in people who are HIV-positive.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has launched an investigation into the killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe but say they have been unable to reach dentist Walter Palmer.
The FWS said it was “deeply concerned” about the “tragic” death of one of Africa’s most famous lions.
Director Dan Ashe said they will “go where facts lead” but efforts to reach Walter Palmer have been unsuccessful.
Walter Palmer says he thought the hunt was legal but two Zimbabwean men have been arrested over Cecil’s death.

Protesters gathered outside the building on July 29, carrying placards saying “Justice for Cecil”, “Trophy hunters are cowards” and “Prosecute poachers”.
On July 30, the White House said it would review a public petition to extradite Walter Palmer after more than 100,000 signed it.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said it was up to the US justice department to respond to any extradition order.
Earlier, the FWS said: “We are currently gathering facts about the issue and will assist Zimbabwe officials in whatever manner requested.”
“At this point in time, however, multiple efforts to contact Dr Walter Palmer have been unsuccessful,” it said, saying Walter Palmer or his representative should contact them immediately.
“It is up to all of us – not just the people of Africa – to ensure that healthy, wild populations of animals continue to roam the savannah for generations to come,” the statement said.
The whereabouts of Walter Palmer is currently unknown, but he is thought to have returned to the US after Cecil was killed on July 1st.
In a letter to his patients, Walter Palmer said he would assist authorities in Zimbabwe or the US in their inquiries and apologized for the disruption to the clinic.
He is believed to have paid about $50,000 to go on the hunt in Zimbabwe.
Prosecutors in Zimbabwe have charged the hunter who supervised Walter Palmer’s outing, Theo Bronkhorst, for killing a lion not authorized to be hunted. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
Zimbabwe’s safari organization also said the way in which Cecil was lured out of a national park was unethical and possibly illegal.
A second suspect, farm owner Honest Ndlovu, was also arrested but is yet to be charged.
An international hunting organization suspended the memberships of both Walter Palmer and Theo Bronkhorst on July 30, saying it wanted a “full and thorough investigation” into the lion’s death.
Safari Club International, which promotes big-game hunting worldwide, said “those who intentionally take wildlife illegally should be prosecuted and punished to the maximum extent allowed by law”.
Cecil, who was a major tourist attraction at Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve in Hwange National Park, was being monitored by Oxford University as part of a conservation program.
The lion is believed to have died on July 1st, but the carcass was not discovered until a few days later.
