A recent report has revealed that an approximated one in four students who attend university are now studying online. In America, around six million students have favored an online course over the typical forms of learning. This has been a trend that has seen growth over the past 13 years. But why are more students favoring this form of learning and what has lead to its increased popularity over the last few years?

Accessibility

In the past, online learning just wasn’t an option for students for one key reason, accessibility. Several years ago, there were very few universities that offered online courses and even fewer universities that were run purely online. The demand wasn’t there, and more importantly, the technology wasn’t there. Now, it certainly is with many homes having ultra-fast broadband connections, allowing them to stream lectures, download course notes and get all the information they need. It doesn’t matter whether you live miles from the nearest city. You could still enroll in a university course online and rarely leave your home.

Choice

Once the technology caught up with the demand, online education was always going to be a favored option among students due to the level of choice that it provided. When students head to university, they want to have the freedom to study what they want, how they want, when they want. Most colleges don’t allow this, but online courses do. With an online course like an accredited online MBA program, students can choose exactly what they want to study from an eclectic range of different courses to choose the right career for them. Of course, this isn’t the only advantage that additional levels of choice provide.

Flexibility

With a greater level of choice, students can also decide when and how they want to study. They can take longer on some courses than others and determine when they want to catch up on lectures. That’s important as it allows them to base their learning around other commitments that they have made in life, such as a career. It’s becoming clear that businesses don’t want green workers, even when hiring out of university. They want people with a little experience already under their belt, and then there is the financial pressure. We all know how expensive life can be for student. In this context, online courses start to make a lot more sense.

A Cheaper Deal

Of course, by studying online students are also getting the cheaper deal. The cost of an online course is a fraction of what you would be expected to pay for a full university course. Particularly, if you need to take other things into account such as lodging. As such, by studying online students don’t leave university, already buried in debt. Instead, they can have a clean slate to work with and ensure that they don’t get trapped under the weight of student loan repayments.

As you can see then, there are a number of reasons why the online courses are now being more strongly favored in the student population. It’s not just the level of freedom they bring. From a financial perspective, they are the superior option.

Otto Warmbier’s Parents Open Up About Son’s Death

Otto Warmbier’s parents have shared horrific details of his condition when he arrived home from North Korea.

In an interview with Fox and Friends, Fred and Cindy Warmbier said that the North Koreans were “terrorists” who had “systematically tortured” their son.

Otto Warmbier was jailed in Pyongyang in 2016 for stealing a hotel sign.

The American student was released on medical grounds in June 2017 but arrived home seriously ill and died days later.

North Korea has always denied mistreating Otto Warmbier. According to North Korean officials, he contracted botulism while in prison but US doctors found no trace of this.

In their first interview since their son’s death, Fred and Cindy Warmbier told Fox News that they “felt it was time to tell the truth about the condition that Otto was in”.

American doctors had previously described Otto Warmbier as being in a state of “unresponsive wakefulness”, but his parents said calling this a coma was “unfair”.

Fred Warmbier said when they saw his son he was “moving around, and jerking violently, making these howling and inhuman sounds”.

His head was shaved, he was blind and deaf, his arms and legs were “totally deformed” and he had a huge scar on his foot, he said. It “looked like someone had taken a pair of pliers and rearranged his bottom teeth”.

Fred Warmbier said: “Otto was systematically tortured and intentionally injured by Kim and his regime. This was no accident.”

He also said Otto had been abandoned by his family, his country and the world and that the government had given them no information about his death.

Cindy Warmbier said North Korea sent him home because “they didn’t want him to die on their soil”.

The family refused a post-mortem examination because they thought Otto had suffered enough and “I wasn’t going to let him out of my sight,” she said.

Cindy Warmbier also pleaded with people not to go to North Korea, saying it was “playing into” Pyongyang’s propaganda. US citizens are now banned from travelling to North Korea.

However, the Cincinnati Enquirer, a local newspaper has disputed the allegations made by Otto Warmbier’s parents.

The newspaper said it had obtained a copy of a coroner’s report on Otto Warmbier, based on an external examination, which revealed several small scars but nothing which indicated torture.

The Cincinnati Enquirer quoted the Hamilton County coroner as saying Otto Warmbier’s teeth were “natural and in good repair” and that he appeared to have died from brain damage caused by a lack of oxygen.

President Donald Trump, who is known to watch Fox and Friends, tweeted that it had been “a great interview”, and that “Otto was tortured beyond belief by North Korea”.

The president’s comment is likely to stoke the escalating tensions between North Korea and the US, which have exchanged allegations and threats at an unprecedented rate in recent weeks.

Although the specific sections, contents and arrangement may vary, most professional resumes consist of two basic parts: assertions and evidence. Your assertions will include the qualifications, talents and skills that make you the right candidate, and the evidence will support them.

With the variation of specialties, subfields and focuses within the general field of information technology, assertions are generally the most critical aspect of IT resumes. This section consists of three subsections:

  • Objective: This is a clear, short description of what you hope to bring to the position. A proper objective should clearly define why you are the right person for the job in one sentence.
  • Summary: Here, you will list the skills, accomplishments and expertise that make you perfect for the position. This may be the only section of your resume that the employer fully reads, so you need to make it count.
  • Skills and Accomplishments: This section provides you a platform to go into more detail about the characteristics and expertise that make you the ideal candidate. The US has denied a war declaration against North Korea.

A statement from North Korea on September 25 accuses Washington of declaring war.

The White House also warned North Korea to stop provocations after it said it had the right to shoot down US bombers.

A UN spokesman said fiery talk could lead to fatal misunderstandings.

Meanwhile, South Korea has called for a level-headed response, warning that accidental clashes in the region could quickly spiral out of control.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho told reporters on September 25 that “the whole world should clearly remember it was the US who first declared war on our country”.

Ri Yong-ho’s comments were a response to a tweet from President Donald Trump suggesting North Korea would not “be around much longer” if its leaders continued their rhetoric.

On September 24, US warplanes flew close to North Korea’s coast in a show of force.

Speaking as he left New York after the UN General Assembly, Ri Yong-ho said his country had the right to shoot down US warplanes even if they were not in North Korea’s airspace.

On September 25, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the US had “not declared war against North Korea and frankly the suggestion of that is absurd”.

Pentagon spokesman Col. Robert Manning reacted by saying: “If North Korea does not stop their provocative actions, you know, we will make sure that we provide options to the president to deal with North Korea.”

South Korea – technically at war with North Korea since the 1950s – called for “astuteness and steadfastness” in responding to what it describes as continued provocations by Pyongyang.

Speaking in New York, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha called for the prevention of any “further escalation of tensions, or any kind of accidental military clashes in the region which can quickly spiral out of control”.

South Korea’s intelligence service said North Korea was readjusting the position of its military aircraft and strengthening its coastal defenses, according to the South’s news agency Yonhap.

Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for UN Secretary General António Guterres, said that “fiery talk can lead to fatal misunderstandings” and that “the only solution for this is a political solution”.

China’s ambassador to the UN, Liu Jieyi, told Reuters: “We want things to calm down.

“It’s getting too dangerous and it’s in nobody’s interest.”

Despite weeks of tension, experts have played down the risk of direct conflict.

North Korea has continued to carry out nuclear and ballistic missile tests in recent weeks, in defiance of successive rounds of UN sanctions.

Pyongyang says nuclear capabilities are its only deterrent against an outside world seeking to destroy it.

After North Korea’s latest and most powerful nuclear test earlier this month, the UN Security Council approved new sanctions on the country.

Not much more than a few years ago and people were using talcum powder as liberally as Donald Trump uses divisive comments. Parents used it on their babies, people used it to get that soft skin feeling, athletes used it to stop chaffing and others did it for personal hygiene reasons. In short, it was all but an essential part of people’s lifestyle.

However, the question, “does talcum powder cause cancer?” is one that has become a mainstream talking point ever since an L.A. jury agreed it did. In fact, Johnson & Johnson were ordered to pay a 63-year-old woman $417 million as it was determined that her terminal illness was caused by decades of Johnson’s talcum powder use. The argument was that Johnson’s should have warned consumers of the risk.

In this instance, the cancer in question was ovarian cancer, and the fact Eva Echeverria’s was terminal has turned the once innocent use of a product into a possible wrongful death lawsuit that could extend to who knows where.

For those who aren’t aware, talcum powder is made up of talc minerals, which are made up of magnesium, silicon and oxygen. Some talcum powders also contain asbestos, which isn’t exactly a substance you want to put messing around with and potentially inhaling. With that in mind, we have pulled together a list of other cancers that could be caused by the excessive use of talcum powder.

The Lungs

Asbestos is a substance that has been proven to encourage lung cancer, which makes this a real worry for anyone that isn’t doing their research or still using a bottle of talc that they’ve found at the back of the cupboard from when they were kids. However, even though most talcum powder on the market is asbestos-free, there are other mineral deposits in talcum powder that can cause lung cancer, most notably Radon. This is actually more severe than you may think because last year Radon-induced lung cancer was the second biggest killer, second only to smoking. To put it to you bluntly, the EPA has found there to be epidemiological evidence showing a clear link between lung cancer and high levels of Radon.

The Ovaries

Such as we have found with the case of Eva Echeverria, talcum powder has become increasingly linked to the rise in ovarian cancer, which is often referred to as ‘The Silent Killer’. The reason why Eva Echeverria’s case is so significant is because it shows that there is a) proof women have been suffering from ovarian cancer as a direct result of being exposed to talcum powder in large quantities or over a long period of time and b) there has been a lack of responsibility by those manufacturing and selling these products to people without proper warning. What makes this so much worse is the fact ovarian cancer is so hard to spot, as well as the fact it can spread to other parts of the body with relative ease.

Other Cancer

While lung and ovarian are the two biggest worries on this front, talcum powder is often associated with other forms of cancer, namely endometrial and uterine cancer, both of which are more common within women that have been through their most fertile periods. Another form of cancer that is worth mentioning, and one that is not so exclusively reserved for women but men also, is stomach cancer.

Now, we know that a lot of people, especially those in the Baby Boomer and Traditionalist generations, are going to dismiss this as a load of nonsense, which probably has something to do with the fact they don’t want to be told they were sold something so harmful. However, while the results are still yet to be fully confirmed and the exact science will remain ongoing for a few more years no doubt, many experts are urging people to stop using excessive amounts of talcum powder, while others are saying it should be avoided altogether.

Basically, we need to dig deeper to understand exactly what is going on because at the moment we can’t say in any totally certain terms what talc’s effects on the body are – especially the lungs and ovaries. As such, it is so important that science world works to discover what the mechanism is if there is one. One thing is for sure, this current court case with Johnson & Johnson is only the start of something very big and very important, and so the world will likely be watching what happens here, and what other products could get drawn into the mix.

A test of WhatsApp’s services on September 26 showed users in China could not send video messages or photographs to people outside China.

The disruption follows restrictions on WhatsApp video chats and photographs in July, which were later lifted.

The tightening of online censorship comes as China steps up security ahead of the Communist Party’s national congress which is held every five years.

WhatsApp has declined to comment on the latest clampdown.

The app provides end-to-end encryption which ensures only the sender and recipient can view the content of messages.

It also prevents Facebook from knowing what is said in any text, voice and video conversation being communicated on WhatsApp.

The latest disruption to WhatsApp appears to be part of a broader crackdown on the internet and online content in China.

On September 25, China’s cyber watchdog handed down maximum penalties to some of the country’s top tech companies including Tencent, Baidu and Weibo for failing to properly censor online content.

The penalties were imposed for failing to remove fake news and pornography, as well as content that authorities said “incites ethic tension” and “threatens social order”.

US Extends Travel Ban to North Korea, Venezuela and Chad

The US has expanded its travel ban to include people from North Korea, Venezuela and Chad.

According to the White House, the new restrictions follow a review of information sharing by foreign governments.

President Donald Trump issued a presidential proclamation on September 24.

He said in a post on Twitter: “Making America safe is my number one priority. We will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet.”

The restrictions on Venezuelans apply only to government officials and their family members.

The three new countries join five others from President Trump’s original travel ban: Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia. However, the new proclamation removed restrictions that were placed on Sudan.

President Trump’s original ban was highly controversial, as it affected six majority-Muslim countries, and was widely labeled a “Muslim ban”.

The travel ban was subject to a range of legal challenges and several large-scale protests, and is due to be considered by the US Supreme Court in October, having been partly reinstated in July.

The American Civil Liberties Union rights group said the addition of the new countries “doesn’t obfuscate the real fact that the administration’s order is still a Muslim ban”.

It is not yet clear how President Trump’s new proclamation, which changes several key elements, will affect that legal challenge.

The addition of North Korea and Venezuela now means not all nations on the list are majority-Muslim.

The criteria for the new ban list is now based on vetting procedures and co-operation, and the restrictions have now been “tailored” on a country-by-country basis. The White House said North Korea did not co-operate with the US government “in any respect” and failed all requirements – and so all travel to the US by its citizens has been banned. Chad, while an important counter-terrorism partner, did not share terrorism-related and other public information the US required – business and tourist visas for its nationals are suspended. Only “certain Venezuelan government officials and their immediate family members” have been banned – its government has recently been hit with economic sanctions by the US, who now say it does not co-operate “in verifying whether its citizens pose national security or public-safety threats” and does not receive deported nationals willingly.

Most of the restrictions come in the form of suspension of B-1 and B-2 business and tourist visas, and they do not appear to be time-limited in the way that President Trump’s former executive order was.

In a fact sheet accompanying President Trump’s proclamation, the White House said that while Iraq also falls short of the required criteria, the country was not included in the new restrictions “because of the close co-operative relationship between the United States” and their part in fighting so-called Islamic State.

The restrictions come into effect on October 18, but will not apply to those already in possession of a valid visa, the White House said.

Angela Merkel has been re-elected for a fourth term as Germany chancellor while nationalists have made a historic breakthrough in federal elections, exit polls suggest.

According to local reports, support for her conservative CDU/CSU alliance has dwindled, but the bloc will remain the largest in the parliament.

CDU/CSU’s current coalition partner, the social democratic SPD, says it will go into opposition following big losses.

The nationalist AfD is on track to become the third party.

The AfD’s performance, better than forecast in opinion polls, means the right-wing, anti-Islam party will have seats in the Bundestag for the first time.

Dozens of protesters have gathered outside the AfD’s headquarters in Berlin, some with placards saying “Refugees are welcome”.

While Angela Merkel’s alliance has remained the largest party, the numbers, if confirmed, are the worst result for the alliance between the Christian Democrat (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) under the chancellor’s leadership.

Addressing supporters, Angela Merkel, who has been in the job for 12 years, said she had hoped for a “better result”.

She added that she would listen to the “concerns, worries and anxieties” of voters of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in order to win them back.

The exit polls suggest the Social Democrats (SPD), led by Martin Schulz, have fallen to a new post-World War Two low. He said the result meant the end of the “grand coalition” with Angela Merkel’s alliance.

“It’s a difficult and bitter day for social democrats in Germany,” Martin Schulz told supporters.

“We haven’t reached our objective.”

With the possibility of an alliance with the SPD rejected, Angela Merkel’s options are narrow, and the process of forming a new coalition could take months.

The projections suggest that six parties will be in the German parliament for the first time since World War Two.

The most likely scenario is of a “Jamaica” coalition, so-called because of the colors of Jamaica’s flag. It includes the black CDU/CSU, the yellow, business-friendly Free Democrats (FDP) – who are returning to parliament after a four-year hiatus – and the Greens.

It is not a marriage made in heaven, as the Greens want to phase out 20 coal-fired power plants and the FDP disagree, but it is the only formation that would guarantee enough seats in the new Bundestag, German broadcaster ZDF says.

All parties have rejected working with the AfD.

The AfD has capitalized on a backlash against Angela Merkel’s policy towards migrants and refugees, many of them from war-torn, mainly Muslim countries like Syria.

The party’s program is heavily anti-immigrant, and particularly anti-Islam. It called for a ban on minarets and considered Islam incompatible with German culture.

Additionally, several of the AfD’s candidates have been linked to far-right remarks.

Prominent AfD figure Frauke Petry said on Twitter that Germany had experienced an incomparable “political earthquake”.

Do you have concern for your loved one in respite care? It seems you would have a right to be concerned, more than a quarter of cases of nursing home neglect or abuse is not reported in any way, shape, or form. Federal law requires that cases of abuse in care homes or nursing homes should be reported to the police for them to deal with. While government investigators are conducting a review into neglect and abuse in care homes, the problem is prevalent and needs dealing with.

An investigation was undertaken into nursing home residents during 2015 and 2016, and 134 cases were deemed serious enough to require emergency room treatment. And most of these cases were as a result of sexual assault. Although these cases were over 33 states in the United States, some states had a higher percentage of abuse than others. Illinois was the prime culprit, with 17% of the cases of abuse stemming from this state. The impact on the families is unquestionable, and, in the more serious cases of nursing home neglect, such as resulting in death by a mistake in medication, this also belies a severe lack of internal monitoring. The fact is that these people should not have died in the first place, and the fact that this is still going on in care homes up and down the United States, and the world, has indicated the dire situation of care homes and their staff selection process.

It is unfortunate that the amount of wrongful death lawsuits appears to be escalating at an alarming rate. The most recent one was a family that filed a wrongful death lawsuit against James Square Health And Rehabilitation Centre, of Syracuse, due to the lack of monitoring with regards to hydration and nutrition, as well as the home failing to diagnose and treat sepsis. This is the fifth wrongful death lawsuit filed against this rehabilitation center in the last five years. This highlights the pandemic of abuse and neglect in care homes across the board is firmly in place.

So what can be done to regulate this? Although the federal law on neglect was drastically improved in 2011, which implores someone to report any suspicions of neglect or abuse to a local law enforcement organization within 2 hours, this still doesn’t solve the issue of employing the right members of staff. Looking at the example of care homes across the board, the regulations when it comes to hiring staff don’t require any specific qualifications as a rule. This is in relation to an entry-level position for the job, as evidenced in care homes for the disabled. As a result, the vetting process needs to be more stringent.

But to prevent the rise in cases of nursing home neglect and abuse, on the whole, this brings to light the fact that everyone, not just the family members, needs to be on guard. Nursing home abuse is something that shouldn’t be tolerated, and based on the results of the investigation undertaken; this number can be greatly reduced with a better vetting process.

The NFL Players’ Association said President Trump had crossed a line by effectively telling players to just “shut up and play”.

There has been no comment from many teams, including New York Jets owner Woody Johnson – a wealthy businessman and Trump campaign donor who was appointed as his ambassador to the UK.

On September 23, President Trump withdrew an invitation to the White House to basketball champions the Golden State Warriors after one player, Stephen Curry, said he did not want to attend.

Stephen Curry – NBA’s most valuable player in 2015 – said he wanted to show that he and other players did not stand for “the things that he’s said and the things that he hasn’t said in the right times”.

President Trump tweeted afterwards: “Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.

“Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!”

In response, triple NBA champion LeBron James, one of the sport’s foremost stars, labeled President Trump a “bum”.

He said: “U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!”

The North Korean foreign minister added that “insults” by President Trump – who was, he said, “mentally deranged and full of megalomania” – were an “irreversible mistake making it inevitable” that North Korean rockets would hit the US mainland.

President Trump, the foreign minister said, would “pay dearly” for his speech, in which he also said he would “totally destroy” North Korea if the US was forced to defend itself or its allies.

Donald Trump responded to the speech on Twitter by saying Ri Yong-ho and Kim Jong-un “won’t be around much longer” if they continue their rhetoric.

Shortly before his address, the Pentagon announced that the show of force underscored “the seriousness” with which the US took North Korea’s “reckless” behavior, calling the country’s weapons program a “grave threat”.

“This mission is a demonstration of US resolve and a clear message that the president has many military options to defeat any threat,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

“We are prepared to use the full range of military capabilities to defend the US homeland and our allies.”

US Air Force B-1B Lancer bombers from Guam, escorted by Air Force F-15C Eagle fighters from Okinawa, Japan, flew in international airspace, the Pentagon added.

The flight follows a week of heated rhetoric between the leaders of both countries – after President Trump’s comments, Kim Jong-un called him “mentally deranged” and “a dotard”.

Ri Yong-ho did not comment on the Pentagon’s announcement.

North Korea has refused to stop its missile and nuclear tests, despite successive rounds of UN sanctions. The North Korean leaders say nuclear capabilities are its only deterrent against an outside world seeking to destroy it.

After North Korea’s latest and most powerful nuclear test earlier this month, the UN Security Council approved new sanctions on the country.

However, speaking at the UN, Ri Yong-ho repeated that the restrictions would not make the country stop its nuclear development.

Meanwhile, a 3.4-magnitude tremor was detected near North Korea’s nuclear test site on September 23, but experts believe it was a natural earthquake.

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 0km in North Hamgyong province, home to the Punggye-ri site, South Korea’s meteorological agency said.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) also said it occurred in the nuclear test area, but added that its seismologists assessed it as having a depth of 5km.

South Korea said no specific sound waves generated by artificial earthquakes were detected.

China’s Earthquake Administration said the quake was not a nuclear explosion and had the characteristics of a natural tremor. The agency had initially said it was a “suspected explosion”.

Soul singer Charles Bradley has died from stomach cancer at the age of 68.

The former James Brown impersonator, nicknamed “the screaming eagle of soul” found fame in his later years. He released his first album No Time For Dreaming in 2011, aged 62.

Charles Bradley had recently returned to live performance after receiving treatment for stomach cancer late last year.

The singer’s death comes just two weeks after the remainder of his 2017 tour dates were canceled due to illness.

Charles Bradley spent much of his life working odd jobs as a handyman – and some of it living on the streets, sleeping in subway cars in New York City.

However, he continued to pursue music, having been inspired by James Brown during a performance he saw as a teenager.

Charles Bradley was eventually signed to a New York label in the early 2000s, securing a spot as the opening act on tour for soul revival singer Sharon Jones – who died last year aged 60.

He recorded a string of singles before the release of No Time for Dreaming a decade later. It was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s best albums of the year.

Charles Bradley’s critical success led to live performances at some of the world’s top music festivals, including Glastonbury, Coachella, and Primavera Sound.

His rags-to-riches story was the subject of the documentary Charles Bradley: Soul of America. It followed Charles Bradley from his initial signing to the record label, living in crippling debt, to his sold-out album release show.

Hurricane Maria has left without power to the entire island of Puerto Rico, home to 3.5 million people, emergency officials have said.

Abner Gómez, head of the disaster management agency, said Hurricane Maria had damaged “everything in its path”.

He said that none of the customers of Puerto Rico’s Electric Power Authority had any electricity.

Maria weakened to a category 3 storm with winds of 115 mph as it moved across the island.

“The information we received is not encouraging,” Abner Gómez told a briefing, urging people to stay in their homes.

Earlier, Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello asked President Donald Trump to declare the island a disaster area after the storm unleashed heavy flooding and life-threatening winds.

The governor said major damage was inevitable, although 500 shelters had been established to protect people.

Hurricane Maria has already left seven people dead on the island of Dominica, which was badly affected on September 18.

Aerial footage shows flattened houses and the death toll on Dominica is likely to rise, with details remaining scant as communication links are down.

Images shared on social media show roofs being stripped away as winds as strong as 140 mph whipped trees and power lines in Puerto Rico’s capital city, San Juan.

Puerto Rico is facing $73 billionn in public debt and the damage left by Maria could exacerbate its financial crisis. Declaring a disaster would mean the island could receive more federal assistance in its recovery.

According to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), Maria made landfall in Yabucoa in the east of Puerto Rico on September 20 as a category 4 storm. It was the first category 4 hurricane to directly hit Puerto Rico since 1932.

Hours earlier, Maria barreled through the US Virgin Islands’ St Croix as a category 5 storm, sustaining winds of up to 175mph.

There was flooding in the French territory of Guadeloupe, where one person was killed by a falling tree and another died on the seafront. At least two others were missing after their ship sank near Desirade, the easternmost island in the archipelago.

Hurricane Maria is the second devastating storm to hit the Caribbean this season – the first being category 5 Irma earlier in September. Maria began moving roughly along the same track as Irma.

Officials in Puerto Rico feared the debris left by Irma could prove extremely dangerous in the high winds.

Born on July 10, 1922, to Italian parents in the Bronx area of New York City, Jake LaMotta took up boxing after being rejected by the US military due to a medical condition.

Mexico Earthquake Kills At Least 225 People

At least 26 people, including 21 children, died at a primary school which collapsed in Mexico City during September 19 earthquake, the Mexican government says.

The 7.1-magnitude earthquake killed at least 225 people in total and caused major damage across states in the center of Mexico.

Desperate searches for survivors under the rubble are continuing.

Dozens of buildings collapsed, including several churches where worshippers were killed.

The quake struck shortly after many people had taken part in an earthquake drill, exactly 32 years after another quake killed thousands in Mexico City.

Mexico is prone to earthquakes and earlier this month an 8.1 magnitude tremor in the south left at least 90 people dead.

Though it struck a similar region, September 19 earthquake does not appear to be connected with the quake on September 7, which was at least 30 times more energetic.

Confirming the death toll, Education Minister Aurelio Nuño‏ said 11 people had been rescued while two children and an adult were missing.

Local media had reported a higher death toll earlier.

More than 500 members of the army and navy, along with 200 police officers and volunteers, have been working at the site, Milenio newspaper writes.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said after visiting the rescue operation: “Some voices have been heard.

“In the time I have been here, I have seen how at times they have asked for total silence, solidarity to listen for the voices.”

At least 209 schools were affected by the quake, 15 of which have suffered severe damage.

The epicenter of the latest quake was near Atencingo in Puebla state, about 75 miles from Mexico City, with a depth of 38 miles, the US Geological Survey (USGS) says.

The prolonged tremor hit at 13:14 local time on September 19 and sent thousands of residents into the streets.

Most of the victims died in the capital.  According to government figures, 94 died in Mexico City, 71 in Morelos state, 43 in Puebla state, 12 in Mexico state, 4 in Guerrero, 1 in Oaxaca.

The reported surveillance, granted under a court warrant, occurred both before and after the 2016 election.

Investigators wanted to know if Paul Manafort had sought Russian help with the campaign.

It is not known if the wiretap, which began in 2014, included conversations with President Trump. Paul Manafort is said to be facing an indictment.

The former political consultant, who had worked for Ukraine’s former ruling party, was chairman of the Trump campaign from June to August 2016. He has not commented on the CNN report, which has been confirmed by CBS News.

FBI special counsel Robert Mueller is leading an investigation into alleged attempts by Russia to influence the 2016 election.

However, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants were granted before his investigation started, and were first authorized as part of an investigation into Washington consulting firms working for Ukraine, CNN reported.

After the 2014 warrant ended, it was renewed again until earlier this year, in order to allow the FBI to investigate ties between Trump campaign associates and suspected Russian operatives.

Communications collected with the Manafort wiretaps sparked concerns among investigators that he had encouraged the Russians to help with the election campaign, CNN cited three sources as saying – although two of the sources said the evidence had not been conclusive.

The FBI, as well as several congressional committees, are investigating whether Russia attempted to interfere in the US election in order to help Donald Trump.

FBI agents raided Paul Manafort’s suburban Washington DC home on July 26, according to the New York Times.

Agents had picked the lock to his Virginia home as Paul Manafort lay in bed, and were looking for evidence that he had set up off-shore bank accounts, the newspaper reported.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton, who lost the election to Donald Trump, said that she “wouldn’t rule out” questioning the legitimacy of the presidential election if evidence emerged of Russian interference.
