Rihanna and Chris Brown spotted leaving Avenue nightclub within minutes of each other

Rihanna and Chris Brown partied at the same club at the same time for the second time in as many days, leaving within minutes of each other.

Video has emerged of Chris Brown and Rihanna leaving Avenue nightclub in New York.

TMZ reported the pair was in the club together for around 30 minutes and Chris Brown spent some time with Rihanna at her table.

Sitting in different booths, the couple still “kept a close eye on each other” – and Chris Brown sent her over two bottles of Ace of Spades Champagne.

A video surfaced yesterday of the pair leaving the club minutes apart.

The lovelorn pair has been linked together several times already this year, after it emerged that they had recorded songs with each.

And of late wherever Rihanna is, Chris Brown isn’t far behind, as they party at birthday celebrations and nightclubs in West Hollywood.

The sighting comes after another sign that Rihanna is paving the way for a reconciliation with singer Chris Brown, as the raunchy singer reportedly invited the singer to attend a basketball game party on Saturday with her family.

Rihanna and Chris Brown joined her family – including grandfather Lionel Braithwaite on Saturday at an intimate gathering at Jay-Z’s New York club 40/40 to watch the Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics.

A source told The New York Post: “Rihanna arrives first in a yellow cab, with her family and friends, and was escorted to a private room.

“Brown arrived a little later and joined her and her family.”

On Saturday night, however, it seemed the two were more than just friends.

They were allegedly sitting together on the same couch, rooting for the Heat.

Chris Brown’s girlfriend, model Karrueche Tran, was not there.

Asked about reconciliation rumors, a rep for Chris Brown said: “Chris is very happy in his relationship with his girlfriend, Karrueche Tran.”

Meanwhile, sources told The Post Rihanna’s management is calling the rekindled friendship the “Chris Brown issue”.

“Everyone in the business assumes she and Chris are getting back together, and it is only a matter of time before they’ll be more public about it,” the source told the newspaper.

“It’s like she is testing the water – first they work on music together, then they hang out in a friendly way, so the public won’t be completely shocked when they step out together publicly.”

Chris Brown infamously left Rihanna bruised and bloodied after assaulting her ahead of the Grammys in 2009.

There is also a tug of war at Roc Nation over the final say on what she is doing.

“But everyone agrees they can’t control Rihanna and can’t stop her seeing Chris, no matter how much they fear the negative public reaction will be.

“It means she probably won’t release another album this year, for fear of a backlash.”

Amy Pinto-Walsh defies Nanette Kinkade by claiming Thomas Kinkade left her his mansion and $10M

The battle rages over the estate of the Painter of Light Thomas Kinkade, as his mistress Amy Pinto-Walsh yesterday claimed famed commercial artist left her his mansion and millions of dollars.

Amy Pinto-Walsh recently produced a shakily-written will that states she is entitled to Thomas Kinkade’s Monte Sereno, California, mansion and an additional $10 million to start a museum at that location, as well as another $66.3 million in original artwork and collected paintings.

Nanette Kinkade, the artist’s wife of 30 years, has been fighting Amy Pinto-Walsh in court in a bitter struggle for the painter’s will. The two are due in court today in what will undoubtedly be the next chapter of an agonizing spat.

Amy Pinto-Walsh claims the barely-legible will was written by the 54-year-old Thomas Kinkade on November 18 of last year and gives her control over his two properties nestled in Monte Sereno, a wealthy neighborhood in Los Gatos.

The document, originally obtained by the San Jose Mercury News, was scribbled on what seems to be a piece of paper from a legal notepad.

It reads: “I, Thomas Kinkade, being of sound mind and body do hereby bequeath to Amy Pinto Walsh $10,000,000 in cash from my corporate policy.”

Thomas Kinkade also wrote that Amy Pinto-Walsh should have his two properties on Ridgecrest Avenue “for her security”.

It is signed and dated November 18, 2011.

Amy Pinto-Walsh recently produced a shakily-written will that states she is entitled to Thomas Kinkade’s Monte Sereno, California, mansion and an additional $10 million to start a museum at that location, as well as another $66.3 million in original artwork and collected paintings

Thomas Kinkade, who died of an accidental Valium and alcohol overdose in April, was dating Amy Pinto-Walsh at the time of his death.

He was married to Nanette Kinkade for more than 30 years and had four daughters together.

Amy Pinto-Walsh, who was called a gold-digger by the estranged Nanette Kinkade, said after the painter’s death that the two were planning to wed after his divorce was finalized.

In April, lawyers portrayed Thomas Kinkade’s girlfriend as a ruthless gold digger who is out to “tear down” the late artist’s reputation and do irreparable damage to his family.

The restraining order against Amy Pinto-Walsh claimed she broke a confidentiality agreement by talking to reporters the morning Thomas Kinkade was found dead and threatened to reveal his business and personal secrets.

The artist’s bodyguard – who drove him around after he was caught drink driving – said the family had reason to fear Amy Pinto-Walsh because she was prone to “impulsive and erratic” behavior and once threatened to “tear Mr. Kinkade down”.

“Amy was already part of his circle of friends and that really enraged Nanette,” an unnamed source told Radar Online.

“Nanette was furious and humiliated that he not only cheated on her, but moved on so quickly and publicly with her.”

She didn’t make any attempt to hide her frustration either, as she filed a restraining order against his mistress shortly after his death, wanting to stop her from breaching a confidentiality agreement she signed more than a year ago.

The so-called Painter of Light used to estimate that around one out of every 20 homes in America.

His estate – of which Nanette Kinkade is the principal trustee – has filed documents with a Santa Clara court seeking an injunction against Amy Pinto-Walsh, according to Los Gatos Patch.

Thomas Kinkade died of accidental acute intoxication from alcohol and an anti-anxiety medication, an autopsy report revealed.

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office reported Thomas Kinkade’s cause of death as “acute ethanol and Diazepam intoxication” and manner of death as “accident”, according to NBC Bay Area.

Diazepam is the active ingredient in name-brand drug Valium.

Thomas Kinkade, whose works captivated millions of Americans despite the scorn of many art critics, died in April at his home in Northern California at the age of 54.

Dallas reboot premieres tonight on TNT

Dallas is back and the new series are set to premiere tonight at 08:00 p.m. on TNT.

Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy are joined by newcomers Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives), Josh Henderson (Desperate Housewives), Jordana Brewster (The Fast and the Furious) and Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives).

The cast has been everywhere over the past month promoting the premiere Wednesday at 08:00 p.m. on TNT. The youngsters even rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

But controversy is already swirling around the production. Dallas original creator, David Jacobs, was cut out of the new show.

David Jacobs read the new scripts and thought that they were not up to snuff. The new Dallas producers didn’t want David Jacobs involved and tried to list themselves as the creators of the show.

David Jacobs got a lawyer and the Writers Guild to step in and iron out the problems. According to ShowBiz411.com, David Jacobs, creator of Dallas and Knots Landing, said he has been excluded entirely from the coming reboot of the famous series on TNT. He will get to keep his “created by” credit, but nothing else, no money, and no participation.

“I’ll get the $714 Writers Guild fee for a sequel,” David Jacobs says.

He found out that Dallas was being restarted second hand. When he inquired about it, he says he told everyone – including new head writer Cynthia Cidre – that he was essentially retired and didn’t want to write the show.

“I didn’t want any authority,” he told her at their one lunch. But he did think a consultancy wouldn’t be out of the question since basically, Dallas relies on all the characters he created in the 1970s – JR Ewing, Bobby Ewing, Sue Ellen, and their family, even the same Southfork Ranch set.

Euro 2012: Russia get suspended points deduction for Euro 2016 qualifying campaign because of its fans

UEFA gives a suspended six-point deduction to Russia because of the behaviour of their fans during their 4-1 win against Czech Republic at Euro 2012.

Action was taken due to the use of fireworks and far-right banners.

The incident, in which Russian fans attacked stewards, leaving four needing hospital treatment, is being investigated by UEFA and police.

The penalty will apply to the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, and also includes a fine of 120,000 Euros ($147,000).

Russia, who will host the 2018 World Cup, could face further sanctions after their supporters were involved in violence before their game against Poland, which was drawn 1-1, on Tuesday.

A march by thousands of Russian fans to mark their national day had to be halted and some missiles were thrown as supporters clashed with their Polish rivals.

Police say they arrested at least 120 people and that 10 people were injured.

Inside the ground, Russian fans also displayed a provocative banner.

ICANN releases full list of submissions for new internet address endings

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has released the full list of submissions for new internet address endings.

Requests to the ICANN include .porn, .ninja, and .ferrari.

Several top-level domains have been applied for by more than one party, including .sex, .home and .diy.

Both the US drugmaker Merck & Co and its German rival Merck KGaA appear to have applied for the .merck ending, which may trigger an auction process.

However the .uk manager, Nominet, looks likely to secure .wales and .cymru after no-one filed identical claims.

Likewise the Dot Scot Registry was the only organization to apply for .scot and the League of Arab States the only body to claim .arab.

Samsung – which had objected to the process – has taken part, applying for both .samsung and its equivalent in the Korean alphabet.

However, Coca-Cola and the cereal manufacturer Kellogg’s, which also signed a petition in protest, have abstained.

By contrast Google has applied for dozens of the generic top-level domain (gTLD) name strings.

Obvious choices included .google and .youtube, but there were also unexpected inclusions such as .and, .boo, .dad and .new.

The search giant has also requested .music, which has been claimed by seven other organizations including the online retailer Amazon.

Other gTLDs attracting multiple requests include .art, .book, .news, .play, .shop and .vip.

The most contested name is .app which received 13 applications.

ICANN said that it had received a total of 1,930 requests for its first round of new net names – 166 of them were in alternatives to the Latin alphabet.

It has now invited anyone with an objection to any of the claims to lodge their complaint within the next seven months.

ICANN then aims to make the new domains live in batches of about 500, with the first set going live some time after March 2013.

“The plan we have delivered is solid and fair,” said ICANN’s chief executive, Rod Beckstrom.

“It is our fundamental obligation to increase innovation and consumer choice.”

However, critics have attacked the plan, noting the costs involved and the fact that bodies in the first batch to be processed may gain an unfair advantage.

Nations including Brazil, China and Russia have also suggested ICANN’s functions be passed to the UN or another body more under governments’ control.

Applicants had to pay a $185,000 fee to take part in the application process. They also face a minimum $25,000 annual renewal charge to keep their suffix once it has been granted.

That may have discouraged some public bodies from participating.

One internet brand consultant noted that the business world appeared to be split over the perceived benefits of having one of the names.

“While Next and Boots are investing in a .brand for their online retail future, all the other big British retailers missed the boat,” said Stuart Durham from Melbourne ITDBS.

“The big names of the internet have either invested massively or not at all. Amazon for example has applied for 76 names, Google for 101 and Microsoft 11. But there’s no applications from Facebook or Twitter.

“There are different strategies in play here and some big gambles.”

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt wedding date picked with the help of a Buddhist monk

Angelina Jolie has reportedly picked her wedding date with the help of a Buddhist monk.

Angelina Jolie, 37, is expected to marry fiancé Brad Pitt this summer and sources close to the star have revealed she will chose the top secret date with some spiritual help.

A source told the National Enquirer: “Angie has used Buddhist astrology in the past to help her pick the best or most auspicious days for important moments in her life.

“She’s relied on the Buddhist calendar to plan medical procedures and vacations for herself, Brad and the kids. She’s even used it for picking the dates of her movie openings.

“That’s when Angie was completely converted to Buddhist astrology and she’s not taking that chance with Brad. Angie is convinced the date of their union will guarantee their future happiness.”

According to their friends, Brad Pitt – with whom Angelina Jolie raises six children with – is happy to go along with whatever Angelina Jolie thinks and says she can take her time with choosing the date.

The source added to the National Enquirer magazine: “Brad just goes with the flow. He told Angie to take as much time as she needs. After eight years and six kids together, they clearly aren’t rushing into marriage.”

Kanye West says he can’t wait to see Kim Kardashian carrying his child

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have only been dating for a few short months, but they are seriously thinking about their future, according to new reports.

According to Us Weekly, Kanye West, 35, wants Kim Kardashian to make him husband No. 3.

“They’re seriously talking marriage, and yes, she would [accept his proposal],” one of the rapper’s friends told the magazine, adding: “Kanye says he can’t wait to see her carrying his child. He says she will look beautiful pregnant.”

Once Kim Kardashian finalizes her long, drawn out divorce from NBA player Kris Humphries, there’s a very good possibility the two will tie the knot, considering Kanye West was already thinking about seeing Kim walk down the aisle before they were even out as a couple.

In his song Theraflu (Way Too Cold), Kanye West admitted he’d been in love with Kim Kardashian for some time: “And I admit I fell in love with Kim/’Round the same time she fell in love with him” were referring Kim andKris  Humphries.

In many ways the couple has been acting as though Kim Kardashian isn’t going through a divorce at all and they haven’t held back when it comes to making grand romantic gestures. According to the New York Daily News, Kanye West was blown away by Kim Kardashian’s surprise visit to Ireland for his 35th birthday the $750,000 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 she bought him as a gift.

And Kim Kardashian, 31, wasn’t the only one handing out lavish gifts. Media Take Out reports the rapper gave Kim Kardashian a huge diamond ring as a sign of his love for her.

The couple, who is rumored to be moving in together soon, are “the real deal,” a source told Us Weekly, who added that Kim Kardashian is completely smitten with Kanye West.

“I’ve never seen her like this,” said the source.

Kim Kardashian might not want to rush to the alter with Kanye West once she’s officially a single woman again, but experts say the couple is a match made in Hollywood heaven.

“This is a good, good fit for her…,” Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger told Hollywood Life recently.

“They have the attraction, [Kanye’s] got the money, he’s got the talent, [Kim’s] got the money. She traded up for a change, and this is beyond [ex-boyfriend] Reggie [Bush]. It’s an equal fit, if not bigger.”

Shellie Zimmerman charged with perjury in her husband George Zimmerman case

0

Shellie Zimmerman, wife of Trayvon Martin’s shooter George Zimmerman, was charged with perjury Tuesday, accused of lying when she told a judge that the couple had limited funds during a hearing that resulted in her husband being released on $150,000 bond.

Shellie Zimmerman, 25, was released on $1,000 bond on the third-degree felony that is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

George Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the teen’s slaying and had been out on bond after the April 20 hearing. However, Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester on June 1 revoked the bond and ordered George Zimmerman returned to the Seminole County Jail. In a strongly worded ruling, Lester said the Zimmermans lied about how much money they had.

George Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara has said the couple was confused and fearful when they misled court officials about how much money they had. A call and email to him on Tuesday weren’t immediately returned.

Records show Shellie Zimmerman in the days before the hearing transferred $74,000 in eight smaller amounts ranging from $7,500 to $9,990, from her husband’s credit union account to hers, according to an arrest affidavit. It also shows that $47,000 was transferred from George Zimmerman’s account to his sister’s in the days before the bond hearing.

Four days after he was released on bond, Shellie Zimmerman transferred more than $85,500 from her account into her husband’s account, the affidavit said. The affidavit also said that jail call records show that George Zimmerman instructed her to “pay off all the bills,” including an American Express and Sam’s Club card.

A state attorney investigator met with credit union officials and learned that she had control of transfers to and from her husband’s account.

Jeffrey Neiman, a former federal prosecutor now in private practice, said cash transactions in excess of $10,000 usually trigger a reporting requirement by the bank to multiple government agencies – including the IRS.

“If Mrs. Zimmerman intentionally structured the financial transactions in a manner to keep the offense under $10,000, not only may she have committed perjury in the state case, but she also may have run afoul of several federal statutes and could face serious federal criminal charges,” Jeffrey Neiman wrote in an email to The Associated Press.

George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer, has maintained since the February 26 killing that he shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense because the unarmed 17-year-old was beating him up after confronting Zimmerman about following him in a gated community outside Orlando.

George Zimmerman was arrested 44 days later and at the bond hearing, he took the stand and apologized to Trayvon Martin’s parents.

At the hearing, Shellie Zimmerman testified that the couple, who married in 2007, had limited funds for bail because she was a full-time student and her husband wasn’t working. Prosecutors say they actually had then already raised $135,000 in donations from a website George Zimmerman created. They suggested more had been raised since then.

Shellie Zimmerman was asked about the website at the hearing, but she said she didn’t know how much money had been raised. Judge Kenneth Lester set the $150,000 bail and George Zimmerman was freed a few days later after posting $15,000 in cash, which is typical.

In bringing a motion to have George Zimmerman’s bond revoked lead prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda complained: “This court was led to believe they didn’t have a single penny. It was misleading and I don’t know what words to use other than it was a blatant lie.”

The judge agreed and ordered George Zimmerman returned to jail where he has been since turning himself in on June 3. He didn’t perjure himself, but Kenneth Lester said he knew his wife was lying.

“Does your client get to sit there like a potted plant and lead the court down the primrose path? That’s the issue,” Kennethh Lester said in revoking George Zimmerman’s bond.

“He can’t sit back and obtain the benefit of a lower bond based upon those material falsehoods.”

He has another bond hearing set for June 29.

Bernie De la Rionda presented to the judge during the revocation hearing a partial transcript of telephone conversations George Zimmerman had with his wife from jail, days before the original bond hearing.

George Zimmerman and his wife discussed the amount of money raised from the website, and he spoke in code to tell his wife how to make fund transfers, according to the transcript. The code referred to amounts of “$15” in place of “$150,000.”

In the arrest affidavit, they also spoke about small amounts when really, prosecutors said, they were referring in code to thousands of dollars that Shellie Zimmerman withdrew from her account to pay the bail bondsman.

Fontana di Trevi is crumbling due to last winter cold weather

Rome’s iconic Fontana di Trevi (Trevi Fountain) appears to be the latest monument to show its age as chunks of plaster and stucco, measuring up to three inches wide, have been falling from the structure.

According to The Telegraph, this is due to February unusual cold weather. Snow and ice infiltrated existing cracks then expanded.

Part of the Fontana di Trevi was roped off Monday after the damage was noticed. Pieces that look close to falling off are being removed to protect tourists below.

The fountain was last restored in 1990.

Meanwhile, Rome has had to deal with reports that its Colosseum might be crumbling and Venice is levying a tourist tax to help the city weather perpetual crowds. The peninsula, it would be fair to say, has seen better days.

Italy isn’t alone. China’s Great Wall is collapsing due to mining and, in the U.S., a number of historical sites have fallen into disrepair, landing on a list of the most endangered historic places.

European Extremely Large Telescope, world’s biggest telescope, to be built in Chile’s Atacama Desert

A coalition of 15 states, members of European Union, has announced plans to build the biggest telescope in the world.

The mirror inside the telescope will measure 39 metres across – four times wider than today’s biggest telescope – and it will be so powerful that astronomers will even be able to observe dark, rocky planets far beyond our solar system.

The European Southern Observatory (ESO) project is supported by 15 members of the European Union and has the catchy name “European Extremely Large Telescope”… even if it will be built in Chile’s Atacama Desert, to avoid light pollution.

The twin infrared/optical telescope will sit on top of a 3,060 metre mountaintop, giving unparralled views of the sky above, and should hopefully come online in 2022.

Astronomers hope the observatory will help provide insights into the formation of galleries and the nature of black holes

They also hope to shed light on two of the biggest mysteries of our universe – the formation of “dark matter”, which cannot be directly observed but is hypothesized to make up most of the mass of the universe, and “dark energy”, which appears to driving the universe to expand at an accelerating rate.

ESO agreed to the optical/infrared telescope in Garching, Germany, (E-ELT) Programme, pending confirmation of final referendums.

All of ESO’s member states have already expressed very strong support for the E-ELT project.

At the council meeting, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland voted in favor of the start of the E-ELT programme.

Four further countries voted in favor ad referendum: Belgium, Finland, Italy, and the UK.

The project has an estimated cost of 1,083 million Euros ($1,320 million).

ESO director general, Tim de Zeeuw said: “This is an excellent outcome and a great day for ESO.

“We can now move forward on schedule with this giant project.”

2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the ESO. It is supported by 15 countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

The team operates three observing sites in Chile: La Silla, Paranal and Chajnantor.

At Paranal, ESO operates the Very Large Telescope, the world’s most advanced visible-light astronomical observatory and two survey telescopes.

ATM cardless withdrawal smartphone app unveiled by RBS

A new technology that will enable people to withdraw money from cash machines (ATM’s) using their smartphone has been unveiled.

Customers who use the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) or NatWest mobile banking app can now request cash, up to £100 ($160), via their smartphone.

They are given a six-digit code to enter into an ATM to release the cash.

A similar system has been developed by cash machine operator NCR. This requires users to scan a barcode to withdraw the money.

The services are the latest developments in a long-predicted move towards the smartphone becoming a digital wallet.

Customers who use the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) or NatWest mobile banking app can now request cash, up to £100 ($160), via their smartphone

RBS said that its new system would help customers who had forgotten their bank cards, or who wished to send cash to family members in a hurry.

It would also allow the people to leave their wallets at home in favor of taking a mobile phone, it suggested.

“It is a really simple and secure way to help our customers get cash whenever and wherever they need it,” said Ben Green, head of mobile at RBS and NatWest.

The service is available to customers who have downloaded the bank’s free app and use the 8,000 RBS, NatWest or Tesco branded ATMs in the UK. Some 2.6 million people have installed it on their smartphone so far, the bank said.

At present, customers using a card can withdraw up to £300 ($480). Initially the limit on the cardless withdrawal will be £100 ($160).

Access to the app requires a password, and the withdrawal code will be hidden until the user taps the screen. This is aimed at preventing thieves from looking over the user’s shoulder to steal the code.

The system is an extension of a RBS service that allowed people whose card had been stolen to access emergency cash from an ATM.

The bank is also unveiling a system which allows customers to make charity donations at its ATMs.

In a separate development, NCR has announced that it has developed software that allows people to scan a barcode on their smartphone at an ATM to release an amount entered in their smartphone.

It is looking for banks and building societies to adopt the software.

ICANN will reveal new internet domain claims

According to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), US-based organizations accounted for nearly half of all applications for new net address endings.

ICANN said it had received 884 requests for new suffixes from the US, out of a total of 1,930.

By contrast there have been 40 such applications from the UK, 303 from the Asia-Pacific region and 17 from Africa.

Details of who applied for what will be revealed in London later.

ICANN said it had received 884 requests for new suffixes from the US, out of a total of 1,930
ICANN said it had received 884 requests for new suffixes from the US, out of a total of 1,930

Ahead of the press conference, ICANN also revealed that 166 of the claims were for what it termed “internationalized domain names” – generic top-level-domains (gTLDs) that are not in the Latin alphabet.

“That means that if you’re a person living in China or in somewhere in India then you might have the opportunity to use the internet purely in your native script,” said ICANN’s president and chief executive, Rod Beckstrom.

“It’s going to make the internet more approachable for people. Also we’re seeing a trend on mobile devices to people liking short names and there will be opportunities for shorter names here, just because what was previously a second-level name now becomes first-level.”

An example of this would be if the web address www.canon.com/products switched to www.products.canon.

Canon is just one of several organizations to have confirmed it has paid the $185,000 fee to take part in the application process.

The not-for-profit .uk domain name manager Nominet has also revealed it had applied to run .wales and .cymru while Google said it had applied for .google, .youtube and .lol.

Other less well-known bodies are also taking advantage of the move.

The firm Top Level Domain Holdings has spent more than $13.5 million applying for 92 applications on itself and clients. These include claims for .hotel, .cricket, .london and .music.

Dubai-based Directi said it had also applied for 31 “mass market” gTLDs including .law, .bank and .baby.

Organizations face a minimum $25,000 annual renewal charge to keep their suffix, but not all applications will succeed.

“Community-based applications” – those from trade associations or other organizations representing recognized, sizeable groupings – will take precedence over “standard applications” – those from stand-alone businesses and others.

So for instance, if PepsiCo, Coca-Cola and the Grocery Manufacturers of America have all applied for .cola, the GMA should be given priority.

If two or more applicants of equal status have requested the same name a resolution process is triggered.

“We would notify them that they have been approved and who else has been approved and say they have 60 days to go figure out how they are going to resolve this,” said Rod Beckstrom.

“If they don’t resolve this in 60 days then we are going to put it up for auction where each of them can bid for the term. The proceeds of that auction will go to a new charitable or non-profitable entity.”

The process has proved controversial. 87 companies and business associations sent a petition to the US Department of Commerce last year claiming “excessive cost and harm to brand owners” and the “likelihood of predatory cyber harm to consumers”.

But it will take a while to find out if such fears prove true.

Because of the volume of requests ICANN plans to divide and evaluate the applications in batches of about 500.

It says the first is expected to go live some time between April and June 2013.

North America: 911 applications

Europe: 675 applications

Asia-Pacific: 303 applications

Latin American and the Caribbean: 24 applications

Africa: 17 applications

(116 in non-Latin alphabets)

Jessica Simpson spotted leaving the gym in her effort to shift post-pregnancy pounds

Jessica Simpson was spotted leaving the gym again yesterday and her sessions are clearly paying off.

As she approached her car, Jessica Simpson, 31, showed off her entire body for the first time since giving birth last month and she definitely looked slimmer.

The singer has quietly been working up a sweat, sticking religiously to her workout regime in a bid to shift her post-pregnancy pounds.

Wearing an all black gym outfit that consisted of leggings, a tracksuit top and trainers, she seemed eager to get into her waiting car and head home to her child.

It’s not the first time that Jessica Simpson has been seen leaving a private gym in Los Angeles as earlier this week she was spotted finishing another workout.

Jessica Simpson gave birth to her first child with her fiancé, former NFL star Eric Johnson, on May 1.

Beaming after the birth of the couple’s daughter, Maxwell Drew, Jessica Simpson looked radiant in the passenger seat of a Range Rover as a female friend took the wheel.

She paired black stretch workout wear with a leopard scarf, her wavy blonde locks falling around her shoulders.

Jessica Simpson was spotted publicly for the first time since giving birth last Wednesday as she arrived to Harley Pasternak’s gym in West Hollywood, where she has been undergoing her workout sessions.

The singer was also seen arriving to the fitness centre on Friday.

It was announced last week that Jessica Simpson, who reportedly gained 80 lbs while pregnant, would front the latest Weight Watchers campaign.

However, the singer was unable to start working out for several weeks on doctor’s orders due to having a C-section.

Appearing to have been given the all-clear, Jessica Simpson is now combining a new exercise regime with a healthy eating plan she had already kicked off.

Jessica Simpson spoke to People, in which she appeared in a photoshoot with daughter Maxwell and Eric, revealing she is eating protein-packed means and drinking home-mixed juices to help shed pounds.

Her dietary restrictions come after she was forced to deny on several occasions that she was having twins because of the size of her baby bump, which appeared to grow larger than average.

However, Jessica Simpson said in March doctors put her blooming figure down to the fact that she had excess amniotic fluid.

Now, the singer says she is anxious to shed her baby weight.

Jessica Simpson told People: “After you have your baby it’s like, <<Oh my God, what happened to my body… this is not me>>.”

The singer also revealed she planned to join Weight Watchers before she learned she was pregnant, having dealt with years of yo-yo dieting.

Jessica Simpson said she simply wants to feel comfortable in her skin again.

Lady Gaga perfume will be called Fame and will smell like an expensive hooker, says Lisa Tant

Lady Gaga’s perfume first glimpse has been leaked by a Canadian fashion editor via Twitter.

Lisa Tant, the editor in chief of Canadian fashion magazine Flare, tweeted an image of the bottle, set to hit stores in August, along with its much-anticipated name and scent notes.

For over two years Lady Gaga, 26, has been publicly teasing her fans with small bites of information about the rumored perfume, which in 2010 was reported to smell like “blood and semen”, and now Lisa Tant has clarified details.

Originally thought to be called Monster, the editor revealed the fragrance will be called Fame, and, in Lady Gaga’s words, will actually “smell like an expensive hooker”.

Lisa Tant quoted Lady Gaga, allegedly at a press preview for the perfume, tweeting: “It was taken out of my own blood sample, so it’s a sense of having me on your skin.

“I wanted to extract sort of the feeling and sense of blood and semen from molecular structures, so that’s where [the rumors] came from.

“That is in the perfume, but it doesn’t smell like that. Actually, the perfume smells like an expensive hooker.”

The fragrance appears to be a black liquid that reportedly changes color when applied to skin.

Lisa Tant has since taken down the image and quote from her Twitter account, for unknown reasons.

Lady Gaga is also tipped to cover Vogue‘s famed September issue for 2012, to coincide with the perfumes official launch.

Her last cover for the magazine was in March 2011.

Lady Gaga managed to continue the show and even finish it despite the injury.

Her make-up artist, Tara Savelo, added on Twitter following the show: “Gaga has a concussion but she is going to be okay. She wants u to know she loves u. I’m taking care of her. Cant believe she finished the show.”

Lady Gaga now has a couple of days rest before she is due to restart the trek in Brisbane on Wednesday night to begin the Australian leg.

Diesel fumes do cause cancer, say WHO experts

0

Diesel engines exhaust fumes do cause cancer, a panel of experts working for the World Health Organization says.

It concluded that the exhausts were definitely a cause of lung cancer and may also cause tumors in the bladder.

It based the findings on research in high-risk workers such as miners, railway workers and truck drivers.

However, the panel said everyone should try to reduce their exposure to diesel exhaust fumes.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, a part of the World Health Organization, had previously labeled diesel exhausts as probably carcinogenic to humans.

IARC has now labeled exhausts as a definite cause of cancer, although it does not compare how risky different carcinogens are. Diesel exhausts are now in the same group as carcinogens ranging from wood chippings to plutonium and sunlight to alcohol.

It is thought people working in at-risk industries have about a 40% increased risk of developing lung cancer.

Dr. Christopher Portier, who led the assessment, said: “The scientific evidence was compelling and the Working Group’s conclusion was unanimous, diesel engine exhaust causes lung cancer in humans.

“Given the additional health impacts from diesel particulates, exposure to this mixture of chemicals should be reduced worldwide.”

The impact on the wider population, which is exposed to diesel fumes at much lower levels and for shorter periods of time, is unknown.

Dr. Kurt Straif, also from IARC, said: “For most of the carcinogens when there is high exposure the risk is higher, when there is lower exposure the risk is lower.”

There have been considerable efforts to clean up diesel exhausts. Lower sulphur fuel and engines which burn the fuel more efficiently are now in use.

Massive wildfires hit Colorado and New Mexico

Two of the biggest ever wildfires in the US have hit states of Colorado and New Mexico and hundreds of firefighters have joined efforts to tackle them.

The Colorado blaze shrouded the state capital, Denver, some 60 miles (100 km) away in smoke on Tuesday.

A woman has died in the blaze, which has burned about 43,000 acres (68 sq miles) and is still growing.

A huge fire is also burning in New Mexico – one of a total of 19 fires in nine drought-stricken western states.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday that one person had died in Colorado, after investigators found remains in a home that had been burned in the fire.

Although the remains have not been conclusively identified, the family of Linda Steadman, 62, has issued a statement saying she died in a cabin that she loved.

They reported her missing after the fire started on Saturday, sheriff’s officials said.

President Barack Obama called the Colorado governor to offer federal personnel, equipment and emergency grants – but was unable to reach his New Mexico counterpart due to poor reception in the fire zone, the Associated Press reported.

The High Park Fire – as it has been dubbed – is still growing, with only 5% contained, reported a national incident information website.

The same website says 30% of the 36,000-acre (56-sq-mile) Little Bear Fire in New Mexico has been contained.

About 118 structures have been damaged or destroyed by the blaze in Colorado – believed to have been started by lightning – and hundreds of people were forced to evacuate, officials say.

Some 600 firefighters are on the scene and up to 200 more are expected.

Additional resources have had to be called in as state and federal authorities rushed to tackle the blaze.

The US Forest Service said on Monday it would contract one air tanker from Alaska and four from Canada to add to the aircraft already combating the fire. Two more air tankers were also being mobilized in California.

Five of the forest service’s 13 tankers have already been deployed to the scene, a spokesman said.

Congressmen from Colorado said in a letter to the forest service that the need for more aircraft was “dire”.

But incident commander Bill Hahnenberg told the Associated Press: “We are a very high priority nationally. We can get all the resources we want and need.”

Iraq: at least 62 people killed in bomb attacks in Hilla and Baghdad

Serial bomb attacks in six Iraqi provinces, including 10 locations in Baghdad, has killed 62 people and wounded dozens more, Iraqi police say.

Many of the dead in the Iraqi capital were Shia pilgrims gathering for a religious festival.

In Hilla, two car bombs exploded near a restaurant, killing at least 15 people.

There has been a wave of attacks on the Shia community in recent days, as it marks the anniversary of the death of Shia imam Moussa al-Kadhim.

Four people were killed in a mortar attack near a religious shrine in Baghdad on Sunday.

Iraq’s interior ministry said following that attack that there would be heightened security across the city as they anticipated further violence.

Pictures from Hilla on Wednesday showed the mangled remains of a restaurant, damaged cars and roads strewn with debris.

Police and fire crews were clearing the scene.

Violence in Iraq has fallen since the sectarian killings of a few years ago, but militants still frequently attack security forces and civilians.

Shia targets have come under renewed attack since the government of Shia Prime Minister Nouri Maliki moved against senior members of the predominantly Sunni Iraqiya political bloc.

Dallas reboot: The new cast celebrate launch of their show by opening the New York Stock Exchange

Tonight will see the debut of the hotly anticipated Dallas reboot, 21 years after the original show ended.

So the cast of the new version yesterday got the opportunity to quite literally ring in their show at the New York Stock Exchange.

Josh Henderson, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo and Jesse Metcalfe were given the prestigious honor of ringing the bell to open up trading on Wall Street.

Jordana Brewster and Julie Gonzalo looked glamorous as they posed up together before heading to the podium where they joined their male co-stars Josh Henderson, 30, and Jesse Metcalfe, 33, to ring the opening bell.

Jordana Brewster, 32, opted for a color block outfit, tucking a red blouse into coral shorts and topping off her look with a white blazer and tan wedges.

Meanwhile, Julie Gonzalo, 30, chose a monochrome ensemble and sported a white shirt dress which boasted a black belt and collar with a pair of black peep toe shoe boots.

As the younger generation drummed up excitement for their new series, the original cast-members of the hit show were appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray, who also star in the new series, all took to Jay Leno’s sofa to promote the return of the Texan-set TV drama.

It seems that the surviving original cast are just as excited about the return of the show as the younger set are to join the ranks.

Although the new edition is regularly described as a reboot, Patrick Duffy, 63, has said that the correct term for the new series should be a “continuation”.

The plot will still centre on the Ewing family, in particular John Ross Ewing III who is the son of JR and Sue Ellen, and Christopher Ewing, the adopted son of Bobby and Pam.

Dallas premieres in the US on TNT on June 13.

Peaches Geldof gives her son Astala an animated makeover

Peaches Geldof tweeted on Sunday a picture of her one-month-old son Astala wearing a beige knitted hat and a taupe jumper and testing out more looks on her baby today the socialite tried out some wigs on the baby.

Luckily for Astala none of the wigs were actually real, instead Peaches Geldof, 23, edited his pictures using a clip art application to perhaps take a trip into the future and get a glimpse at what her son might look once his locks grow in.

In the first of the cute uploads Peaches Geldof decorated the picture of Astala as she gazed up at the camera with a short grey wig.

She quickly followed that picture with another image but this time the wig was blonde.

Having a blast she then went onto to post a few more images via her Instagram account of the tot baby with an Afro wig and a short blonde bob similar to the hairstyle Victoria Beckham made famous in 2007.

But it was a picture of the child with a long curly brunette wig that was possibly the closest thing to what he might look like later in life as the hairstyle was similar to that of his father Tom Cohen.

Obviously in awe of the little boy, Peaches Geldof also posted a more sentimental edited picture which was decorated with pink hearts.

Peaches Geldof later shared a close-up shot of her little boy, showing the baby’s adorable face.

Yesterday she posted a series of shots of her little boy on Twitter, showing the tot in various super-cute poses.

Astala is the first child for Peaches Geldof and her fiancé Tom, and she recently spoke about her love for her newborn son.

Speaking about breastfeeding Astala, Peaches Geldof said: “I feed him myself on demand, like mum did with us. The bond I have with Astala when I’m breastfeeding is something which is so incredibly special.

“The realization that I am his source of life, that my body is producing what is keeping him alive is amazing.”

Astala was due on April 24 – the same day as her late mother Paula Yates’s birthday but he arrived six days early by emergency Caesarian section.

But Peaches Geldof said previously that she feels like her mother is watching over her, although she admitted she wished she was here to help her with the baby.

She said: “I’ve felt mum’s presence all the way through my pregnancy and that has been really comforting.

“Becoming a mum has made me feel closer to her than I have ever felt, but it’s also made me miss her more than ever.

“It has been upsetting for me that she hasn’t been around to guide me and advise me and share in it all. She would have been such a cool grandma.”

Ann Rutherford dies aged 94 at her Beverly Hills home

Actress Ann Rutherford, best known for playing Scarlett O’Hara’s youngest sister Careen in Gone With the Wind, has died aged 94.

Ann Rutherford also starred as Mickey Rooney’s girlfriend, Polly Benedict, in MGM’s long-running Andy Hardy series.

Her close friend, actress Anne Jeffreys, confirmed she died at her Beverly Hills home on Monday night.

She told the Los Angeles Times that Ann Rutherford had been suffering from heart problems.

In an interview with the LA Times in 2010, Ann Rutherford said that MGM boss Louis B. Mayer was initially going to refuse her the part in Gone With the Wind.

However, she revealed he relented after she burst into tears, saying she was a huge fan of the novel and “just wanted to watch the book come to life”.

Afterwards, Ann Rutherford continued to make Andy Hardy movies and later appeared in other films, including 1947’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

She had launched her movie career in Westerns while she was still a teenager, appearing with both singing cowboy hero Gene Autry and John Wayne.

Ann Rutherford retired in 1976 but in 1989 was one of 10 surviving Gone With the Wind cast members who gathered in Atlanta to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary.

At the event she spoke about the story’s appeal, saying: “Anyone who had read the book sensed they were into something that would belong to the ages, and everyone was in a frenzy to read the book.”

Ann Rutherford agreed with other cast members that regardless of what other things they achieved in their lives: “Our obituary will say we were in Gone With the Wind and we’ll be proud of it.”

Euro 2012: Russian and Polish football fans clash in Warsaw

New clashes have broken out in Polish capital Warsaw between rival Russian and Polish football fans ahead of a Euro 2012 tie between the two teams.

A march by thousands of Russian fans to mark their national day had to be halted and some missiles were thrown.

Police say 56 arrests were made and that seven people were injured in the violence.

Tensions are running high, given the centuries of rivalry between the two countries.

About 6,000 police were on duty to keep the rival fans apart.

The match began at 20:45 local time.

Beforehand, some Polish fans on a bridge on the march route had tried to attack the Russian fans and had been involved in scuffles.

It was relatively easy for police to contain clashes while the Russians fans were heading down a planned route, but it may more difficult when they spread across town later.

Tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannon were used to disperse fans at the end of the march, according to Poland’s state news agency.

In a separate incident, 50 Polish fans in masks attacked Russian fans in a Warsaw cafe, the Russian news agency Interfax reported.

Russia occupied Poland for more than a century and dominated it during the Cold War, after World War II.

The conservative Polish opposition condemned the march as a provocation, but it was approved by the authorities.

The Russian national holiday marks Russia’s declaration of sovereignty in 1990 – a key episode in the demise of the Soviet Union.

Polish media highlighted fears that some Russian fans may sport Soviet flags and symbols – a highly sensitive issue for the many Poles who deplored communist rule.

“March or street war?” said a headline in the conservative Polish daily Rzeczpospolita. It quoted Wojciech Wisniewski, a member of the Polish Union of Football Fans, as saying “somebody really wants to make Polish football fans attack the Russians”.

European football’s governing body UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Russia after a series of incidents involving the country’s fans at Euro 2012.

Russian fans were caught on camera kicking and punching stewards inside the stadium at Wroclaw, in western Poland, after their team beat the Czech Republic 4-1 on Friday. Four stewards needed hospital treatment.

Anti-racist monitors at the match said a section of the crowd racially abused the Czech Republic’s only black player, Theodor Gebre Selassie.

In a statement on Monday, Russian football association said: “We urge all football fans now in Poland to remember that they represent Russia. Please respect yourselves, your country and your team.”

Dallas reboot: Linda Gray is still stunning at 71

Linda Gray outshone her younger new female co-stars during an appearance on The Today Show yesterday to promote the new Dallas reboot.

Linda Gray, 71, who will reprise her iconic Sue Ellen role in the forthcoming U.S. TNT series of the show, looked stunning in a floaty cream dress which showed off her toned legs.

Her skin looked flawless, with smoky eye make-up accentuating her bone structure.

Linda Gray joined fellow Dallas old-timers Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing) and Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing) on the morning TV show to promote the series, which debuts this Wednesday in the U.S.

They were joined by five new cast members including Jesse Metcalfe who plays Bobby Ewing’s son Christopher and Josh Henderson who stars as J.R.’s offspring John Ross Ewing III.

According to Linda Gray, her character has “changed a lot” in the reboot, not least her fashion sense, since the original Dallas ended back in 1991.

“I love her right now,” she said of her character.

“I loved her then and I love her now. No shoulder pads for one, and her hair’s not looking as wild and crazy.”

Linda Gray revealed that the trio of old timers had all consulted each other before deciding to reprise their characters for the new show, which will focus on the younger members of the family.

“We all called each other,” said Linda Gray, after being asked if it was a group decision to make the comeback.

“People don’t remember that we’ve been friends for 35 years and we see each other all the time.

“So it wasn’t like we hadn’t seen each other for 20 years. This was friendships reigniting and we could work together again. That was the great part.”

Larry Hagman admitted Linda Gray had to persuade him to take part in the show, but “money” certainly played its part in his decision.

“It doesn’t last long, I’ll tell you that,” he laughed.

“It was strange getting back into the swing of things, but we all fitted into our characters in the end so it was nothing to worry about.”

Although the new series has largely been described as a “reboot”, Patrick Duffy, 63, said that the correct term for the new series should be a “continuation”.

Patrick Duffy said: “It’s like you didn’t tune in for 20 years and you were on the wrong channel. And if you turned to the right channel here we are. And everything is as it would be 20 years later. It’s a perfect continuation. We consider this year 14 of the show.”

The actor revealed that his first scene with Larry Hagman, whose character J.R starts out in a nursing home, was particularly meaningful for him.

“It was the first scene I did after not worked with him for 20 years – to go back into that room and to have that scene with Larry – It was a little poignant for me.

“Plus we had to do it about 20 times. We’ve got a little old. It really was the beginning of the new Dallas for me – to do that scene with him.”

And as for TV’s most famous oil magnate – apparently he’s even nastier than viewers remember him.

“He’s gotten meaner and he teaches his son to be mean too,” said Larry Hagman when asked by Today host Ann Curry if his character had “evolved”.

Josh Henderson, who plays J.R’s son John Ross Jr., said he had been so intimidated at filming his first scene with Larry Hagman, that he forgot his lines.

“They are big shoes to fill,” he said.

“I was a little nervous and intimidated to come into this show as it was a big deal around the world.

“The first scene was electrifying. His energy – when he steps on set – he literally consumes the room.”

Meanwhile, Jesse Metcalf admitted that he had initially been “skeptical” at the idea of bringing back “such an iconic” show.

“But once Larry and Linda and Patrick gave it their stamp of approval, I knew the script was probably on par,” he added.

“And after reading it, I thought, <<Wow this is such good storytelling>>.”

The actors were also joined today by Jordanna Brewster whose character Elena Ramos finds herself in the middle of a “love triangle” in the show, while Julie Gonzalo plays Rebecca Sutter who is engaged to Christopher.

Vanessa Bryant having second thoughts about divorcing Kobe Bryant

0

Vanessa Bryant, wife of superstar basketball player Kobe Bryant, appears to be having second thoughts on going ahead with their divorce.

Vanessa Bryant, 29, has until Sunday to sign the documents to make her divorce from the philandering LA Lakers star final.

But according to reports, Vanessa Bryant just can’t bring herself to leave the father of her two children.

According to TMZ, Kobe Bryant, 33, and his ex-wife have been spending a lot of time together in mediation, working out the problems that caused Vanessa to file for divorce in the first place back on December 16.

“We’ve learned Kobe and Vanessa are trying to work out the issues that caused her to file for divorce back in December.

“They spend a lot of time together but he has not officially moved back in with her,” a source told TMZ.

California law gives couples a six-month “waiting period” after divorce proceedings are initiated before it can be finalized.

That means the waiting period expires Sunday and Vanessa Bryant would officially be free to divorce the NBA star Monday.

However, that is unlikely, the report said. There would be nothing to stop her from doing so at a later date, though.

Kobe Bryant married Vanessa in April 2001 in Dana Point, California, when he was 21 and she was 18. They have two daughters, Natalia and Gianna. The marriage became rocky soon after when Kobe was arrested for a sexual assault on a 19-year-old employee of an Eagle, Colorado hotel. The case was eventually dropped, but Kobe Bryant admitted he did have an adulterous sexual encounter with his accuser.

Rihanna’s friends urge her to go to rehab to seek help for excessive partying

Rihanna was pictured out drinking and partying on most nights, regardless of where in the world she is.

But now new claims have emerged that Rihanna’s friends are so concerned about her welfare due to her “excessive partying” that they are urging her to check into a rehab centre.

According to reports, Rihanna’s manager and close friend Jay-Z has ordered the 24-year-old singer to seek help before it’s too late.

The claims about Rihanna’s wellbeing came as the singer was pictured stepping out in New York looking tired and disheveled in possibly her most revealing outfit yet.

Rihanna was pictured wearing a tiny pink lace bandeau bra with a pleated skirt as she headed out and about in Manhattan, covering up with a white cardigan over the top at points during the outing.

She teamed the outfits with a pair of high-top trainers and sunglasses.

Rihanna has sparked concern among friends and family with her love of drinking and partying, with Jay-Z apparently even threatening to drop her from his label if she doesn’t get her life in order.

Things went from bad to worse when Rihanna was forced to cancel a scheduled work trip to the UK last week, after allegedly missing her flight.

A source told Closer magazine: “Rihanna has been out of control for months.

“She was supposed to catch a flight back to the UK last week, but she ended up missing it, which was the final straw for management.

“Jay-Z hit the roof when he found out, and told Rihanna, <<Go to rehab now or I’ll drop you from the label>>. She’s not happy, but she now feels she has no choice.”

However, Rihanna denied claims that she had cancelled the UK trip due to illness, insisting she just needed to spend more time with her family, particularly her grandmother Dolly who is suffering from cancer.

Meanwhile, other reports have suggested that Rihanna is suffering from a personality disorder.

A friend told Look magazine: “She’s reached breaking point. Ri says she’s physically and mentally exhausted and feeling lost.

“I think she desperately needs help and some time off – not just from work but from all the other stresses in her life too.”

The magazine claim that Rihanna’s symptoms, which include her regular updating of fans by sharing pictures and news on Twitter, are indicative that the singer is suffering from Narcisstic Personality Disorder – “a constant need for attention and admiration”.

Rihanna first sparked concerns about her health last month when she was hospitalized for exhaustion and dehydration.

The singer tweeted a picture from inside the hospital, showing her hooked up to an intravenous drip, yet weeks later she was seen out partying again.
