Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, whose affair with President Bill Clinton lead to his impeachment in the US Senate, has broken her long silence in the media.

In Vanity Fair magazine, Monica Lewinsky, now 40, writes that she deeply regrets the fling.

President Bill Clinton “took advantage” of her, Monica Lewinsky writes, though she describes their relationship as consensual.

In 1998, Republicans failed in their effort to oust him from office on the grounds he had lied about the affair.

With Hillary Clinton said to be mulling a 2016 run for the presidency, the Lewinsky matter has remerged in US political discourse, in part because Republicans are eager to wield it against her.

In an advance excerpt of the article released by Vanity Fair, Monica Lewinsky writes she hopes to reclaim her story and says she is still recognized every day and sees her name thrown about in pop culture and the news media.

“I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton,” Monica Lewinsky writes.

“Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened.”

Monica Lewinsky writes that she suffered abuse and humiliation after the scandal broke in 1998, in part because she was made a “scapegoat” to protect the president.

“The Clinton administration, the special prosecutor’s minions, the political operatives on both sides of the aisle, and the media were able to brand me,” she wrote.

“And that brand stuck, in part because it was imbued with power.”

Arguing Bill Clinton had lied to federal investigators about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, who was in her early 20s, the Republicans in the House of Representatives impeached the president, essentially bringing him up on charges in the Senate to determine whether he could be expelled from office.

That effort failed, and Bill Clinton served in the White House until his term ended in 2000.

Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, went on to be elected US senator and to serve as secretary of state under President Barack Obama, and is currently tipped as a frontrunner for the Democratic 2016 presidential nomination.

The Republicans have indicated recently that Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky will be fair game should Hillary Clinton indeed run.

Republican Senator Rand Paul – also tipped to run for the presidency in 2016 – said this year that “bosses shouldn’t prey on young interns in their office”.

Bill Clinton “took advantage of a girl that was 20-years-old and an intern in his office”, Rand Paul added.

“There is no excuse for that and that is predatory behavior.”

In her piece, Monica Lewinsky signals that her desire in breaking her silence after so many years is to “give a purpose” to her past.

“Perhaps by sharing my story, I reasoned, I might be able to help others in their darkest moments of humiliation,” she writes.

Monica Lewinsky now aims “to get involved with efforts on behalf of victims of online humiliation and harassment and to start speaking on this topic in public forums”.

Gwyneth Paltrow denied having an affair with billionaire Jeffrey Soffer, despite a false story expected to run in Vanity Fair.

On Friday, the New York Post reported Vanity Fair has been digging into Gwyneth Paltrow’s friendship with Jeffrey Soffer, who is now married to Elle Macpherson, for its upcoming exposé on Paltrow.

A source for the paper says Vanity Fair has been asking “Miami society sources” about Gwyneth Paltrow’s trip to Jeffrey Soffer’s Fontainebleau Hotel back in 2008.

Vanity Fair is asking if Gwyneth had an affair with Jeff back in 2008 when he reopened the Fontainebleau,” reveals the insider.

The source added: “He flew her in for the party, and she stayed at his house.”

The New York Post notes: “Soffer reportedly gave Paltrow a private tour of the hotel, whisking her away in his Bentley, and the following day, she joined him on his yacht with Kate Hudson.”

The paper goes on to claim that Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Chris Martin were “on the rocks” during that time.

According to a survey of 1,005 adults conducted by 60 Minutes and Vanity Fair, 70% of men would want their wives to outlive them.

Women were slightly less like likely to want to be outlived, with 62% of women saying they would want to die before their husband.

Meanwhile, 55% of people overall said they would give up their lives for their children.

The poll was part of a mortality-themed study, which also looked at other questions about death and dying.

When asked which celebrity they would like to bring back to life, for example, 35% said Princess Diana, followed by 14% who chose Steve Jobs and 11% who said Michael Jackson.

Family members were the people most participators said they would give up their lives for, with 55% choosing children.

If they were given a choice, 12% said they’d die for their spouse, 10% would give up their lives for their parents, 10% would die for their religion and only 5% said they’d die for their country.

In terms of what happens to them after death, only 24% of those polled said they would have their bodies cryogenically frozen in the hope they could one day be revived – even if the process was done for free.

Interestingly though, the number rose significantly to 39% among 18- to 34-year-olds.

Of the fictional characters they wished hadn’t died, an overwhelming majority – 32% of women and 19% of men – chose Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack Dawson from Titanic.

When it comes to funerals, more than a quarter – 26% – admitted to having fantasized about what people would say about them at the somber event.

And a whopping 40% said if they were to have a celebrity’s epitaph etched on their tombstone, it would be Frank Sinatra’s: “The best is yet to come.”

Vanity Fair International Best-Dressed List is finally over as the most fashionable people of 2013 have been declared.

Some of the choices were far from surprising. Kate Middleton makes the list for the fourth time since she first appeared in 2008.

Princess Letizia of Asturias is also on the List, as is Princess Madeleine of Sweden.

Scandal actress Kerry Washington, who graced the cover of the magazine’s August issue, made the number one spot.

Gisele Bundchen, Charlize Theron and Justin Timberlake also appeared, as did Stella Tenant.

Victoria Beckham was also listed.

There were the obvious choices, and then the more intriguing ones. Peng Liyuan, the wife of the Chinese President Xi Jinping, makes her debut this year. Peng Liyuan, who is also a singer and performing artist, has been feted for adding some glamor to her husband’s staid office.

But if the List charts those whose star is on the rise, those whom it excludes must feel the burn. With that in mind, it’s interesting that the List’s compilers have failed to include Michelle Obama – for the second year running. Barack Obama hasn’t appeared since 2009.

In fact, the wives of Western politicians are conspicuously absent. Samantha Cameron hasn’t appeared since she was included for the first time in 2010. And, while Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is a veteran of the List, having appeared four times, the wife of the former French president isn’t in the List this year.

For some, the List is a sacred affair, but there are those who treat it more lightheartedly. While Lara Stone, appearing in the Couples category with husband David Walliams, said her favorite item of clothing is “my wedding dress, made by Riccardo Tisci”, David said his were his “Charvet pajamas”.

He added that his style icon is Italian actress “Ornella Muti as Princess Aura in Flash Gordon”.

When asked who his is, Keith Richards, new to the List, responded: “Why should I [have one]… I am one!”

He also insisted that: “I don’t shop!”

Other newbies include Beyonce and Dita von Teese. The burlesque dancer said her favorite article of clothing is “The <<Hussar>> gown from Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2002 winter haute couture collection”. Fittingly, her style icons are “the women of 1940s-era fetish artist John Willie”.

Ronan Farrow, a writer, human-rights lawyer and diplomat but better known as the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, was also included.

For the first time in its history, the fashion’s who’s who has been opened up to the public. The International Best-Dressed Challenge, as it was known, invited submissions from readers. Fashion blogger Hallie Swanson and interior Designer Darren Henault were selected.

Hallie Swanson’s style icon is Miranda Kerr.

Darren Henault’s styel icon is “Bill Blass with a touch of Pee-wee Herman and the Mad Hatter thrown in”.

Kate Middleton has been voted the world’s best-dressed pregnant star in Vanity Fair‘s annual Top 10 Best-Dressed Pregnant Ladies.

Ranking the world’s most stylish expectant mothers, Vanity Fair placed Alec Hilaria Baldwin, second, and Peaches Geldof third.

Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz and Lara Stone, with their closets full of figure-hugging dresses and numerous expertly-layered red carpet outfits, were not far behind.

While many pregnant women avoid belly-hugging clothing, bright colors, and luxurious fabrics – instead opting for elastic waists, and materials synonymous with comfort, like Lycra, jersey, and cotton – these stars have no lack of style inspiration.

The Duchess of Cambridge, for example, has set the maternity-fashion bar high.

Kate Middleton’s classic pieces have inspired and influenced the wardrobes of countless mothers-to-be, concealing her relatively small bump with three-quarter-length coats and knee-grazing skirts that draw attention to her toned legs.

Meanwhile Hilaria Baldwin, 28, has become famous for her simple, low-maintenance pregnancy style.

She favors body-hugging, sleeveless dresses that highlight her strong limbs.

Peaches Geldof, 24, has taken a cue from old-world Hollywood glamour, showing off her baby bump in sophisticated gowns – “considerably more maternal than her (occasionally barely clothed) wild-child days of yore,” wrote Vanity Fair.

Penelope Cruz, who is expecting her second child, has style with signature styles she favored pre-pregnancy – like a belted waist.

Favoring tight, floor-skimming black-tie outfits in eye-popping colors in Lara Stone, who plays down her seductive style with off-duty hair and lips.

Ranked ninth is Margherita Missoni, pregnant with her first child, while model Eva Herzigová follows for tenth place thanks to her downtown and “decidedly un-dowdy” maternity wear.

The Church of Scientology was responsible for “turning Tom Cruise’s children against their mother”, his ex-wife Nicole Kidman, according to new reports.

The claims were made in an excerpt from a controversial article about Scientology which is due to be published in Vanity Fair.

The allegations have been strongly rejected by a Scientology spokesman, which labelled the article “hogwash”.

The new report, published in Us Magazine, claims the home-schooled children, Bella and Connor Cruise, were sent on a course to teach them to recognize “suppressive persons”, such as their adoptive mother.

The article includes an interview with John Brousseau, who was a Scientologist for 32 years and is a former brother-in-law to the church leader David Miscavige.

John Brousseau told the magazine: “They took a course, PTS/SP, Potential Trouble Source/Suppressive Person, for persons connected in their lives who are an SP.”

And he added: “[Bella and Connor] whispered to me, <<JB, Nicole is an SP! Our mom’s an SP – we hate going and seeing her>>.”

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise divorced in 2001. During their marriage they adopted two children together, Connor, now 17, and Bella, 19.

An earlier excerpt from the report, issued last week, claimed Scientology leaders had auditioned potential brides for Tom Cruise before he met and decided to marry his third wife Katie Holmes.

This was roundly denied by the church in a statement.

“The entire story is hogwash,” they said.

“There was no project, secret or otherwise, ever conducted by the Church to find a bride (audition or otherwise) for any member of the Church. Never.

“The allegation and entire premise of the Vanity Fair article is totally false.

“Like clockwork, stories about this <<phantom>> audition surface in the tabloids every few months.

“We have been denying this ridiculous tale now since it first appeared in print FOUR years ago.”

A spokesman for Tom Cruise also poured cold water on the article, saying: “Lies in a different font are still lies – designed to sell magazines.”

Tom Cruise’s lawyer Bert Fields has denied claims that the Church of Scientology embarked on a long-term “auditioning” process to find the actor a new partner, after his 2001 divorce from Nicole Kidman.

Bert Fields called a Vanity Fair report, previewed on the magazine’s website, “long, boring and false”.

He said it was “a rehash of tired old lies” run in the supermarket tabloids.

Tom Cruise and his third wife Katie Holmes divorced in July this year.

The article, written for October’s edition of Vanity Fair, claimed the top-secret project was led by Shelly Miscaviage, the wife of Scientology leader David, in 2004.

Special correspondent Maureen Orth said she was told by “several sources” that actresses were quizzed by fellow Scientologists to find a suitable partner for Cruise, one of the organization’s most prominent proponents.

Actress Nazanin Boniadi, who was born in Iran and raised in the UK, told the magazine she was approached in 2004 and “audited”, before being selected to date Tom Cruise.

The article alleges their first date was conducted “with an entourage of Scientology aides”, but the relationship faltered after a few months and ended in 2005.

The Church of Scientology has spoken out against the feature in a statement.

“There was no project, secret or otherwise, ever conducted by the church to find a bride (via audition or otherwise) for any member of the church. Never.”

It claimed the magazine relied on a small group of “anti-Scientologists” for information, who had “shamelessly exploited Tom Cruise’s divorce by spreading false and invented tabloid stories.”

Vanity Fair says it stands by the story and has denied claims that it paid its sources.

Maureen Orth is a long-time contributor to the magazine, who has interviewed Vladimir Putin and Margaret Thatcher, as well as writing investigative articles about the allegations of sexual abuse levelled against pop star Michael Jackson.

Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes, with whom he has a daughter Suri, in an Italian castle in November 2006.

Katie Holmes filed for divorce at the end of June this year and the couple announced they had agreed a settlement several weeks later.

Kate Middleton has topped Vanity Fair’s annual International Best Dressed list for the third year running.

The prestigious ranking, which appears in the September issue of the glossy title, saw the Duchess of Cambridge trump some of the fashion world’s most influential figures including actresses Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger and Léa Seydoux, as well as the much-loved New York Times street style photographer Bill Cunningham.

Kate Middleton won praise for patriotically championing home-grown designers such as Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley, and Matthew Williamson, as well as High Street brands.

Of course, the Duchess was not the only royal to make the list. Her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, also featured at number 27, while Monaco’s Charlotte Casiraghi and HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark placed at numbers 35 and 32 respectively.

They appeared alongside fashion industry power players such as Stella McCartney, Alice & Olivia designer Stacey Bendet and Odcar de la Renta PR Erika Bearman, better known by her Twitter handle, OscarPRGirl.

Among the men to make the list was Gisele Bundchen’s quarterback husband Tom Brady, who ranked high at number seven. Interestingly the supermodel herself didn’t even make the list at all. The same was true of Jay-Z, who came fifth, while wife Beyonce didn’t feature either.

Several couples featured as a single entry, however. Colin Firth appeared alongside his wife Livia, who regularly steps out on the red carpet in eco-friendly designer creations.

Moda Operandi founder and Vogue contributor Lauren Santo Domingo came 20th in the list with her music executive husband Andrés

Italian socialites and power couple Ginevra Elkann and Giovanni Gaetani dell’Aquila d’Aragona also appeared together at number 38.

Other major names to make the list were singer Alicia Keys, actress Fan Bingbing and British actor Eddie Redmayne.

Today show anchor Matt Lauer came in at 25, New York Giants Wide Receiver Victor Cruz at 23 and Isabella Rossellini’s daughter Elettra Wiedemann came in at 33.

Vanity Fair is not the first title to have put the Duchess of Cambridge top of its best-dressed list.

People magazine named her one of their ten most stylish women in the world last September. And Harper’s Bazaar followed suit by putting her top of their list in November.

One of the more bizarre anecdotes about Whitney Houston’s life is recounted by Karrine Steffans, a former girlfriend of singer’s ex-husband Bobby Brown.

Karrine Steffans describes a confrontation between Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston’s toy boy beau Ray J back in 2006.

In a Vanity Fair article, entitled The Devils in the Diva, Karrine Steffans recalls a phone call from Ray J following Whitney Houston’s split with Bobby Brown.

“He said, <<Is Bob (Bobby Brown) still staying with you?>>” remembers Karrine Steffans.

“I said, <<Yeah, he’s right here>>. And Ray said, <<Tell him I f***ed both of his chicks, you and now his wife>>.”

Echoing Bobby Brown’s interview with The Today Show this week where he denied introducing Whitney Houston to drugs, Karrine Steffans says: “Bob’s big thing was everyone blamed him for her downfall, but when he met her she was already using drugs.

“He always felt very angry about that. He told me, <<What everybody saw wasn’t the real Whitney>>. He always said her private persona – which you saw on [reality show] Being Bobby Brown – was who she really was.”

Being Bobby Brown aired on U.S. network Bravo back in 2005 and documented Whitney Houston’s marriage to the singer, which ended in divorce in 2007.

Ray J was regularly seen with Whitney Houston the week before she died, with the last photograph of the star taken two days prior to her death.

Whitney Houston’s premature death at 48 in Beverly Hilton Hotel triggered a slew of media speculation and rumors about her alleged drug use and troubled personal relationships.

Now, a Vanity Fair article has shed new light on Whitney Houston’s personal life and last days in Los Angeles, three months after she was found drowned in a hotel bathtub.

One of the more bizarre anecdotes is recounted byKarrine Steffans,  a former girlfriend of Whitney Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown, in which she describes a confrontation between the New Edition star and the singer’s toy boy beau Ray J back in 2006.

Ray J was regularly seen with Whitney Houston the week before she died, with the last photograph of the star taken two days prior to her death.

Those pictures of Whitney Houston showed her looking sweaty and disheveled as she emerged from the Thru nightclub in Hollywood with a small entourage.

Her hairdresser Tiffanie Dixon remembers that night, telling Vanity Fair that Whitney Houston returned to the hotel where they both read the Bible together. “Her glasses were broken but she read by holding the little single lens,” she says.

On the day she died, Whitney Houston breakfasted with three strangers – men she had encountered the day before.

One of the men told the magazine: “Whitney came walking by, either coming from or into the spa, in black sweats, grey sweater and a cap and sunglasses. She smelled of alcohol.

“She sat with us for ten minutes, had a bowl of fruit, gave us a hug and left.”

Hoping for a comeback, the publication also claims that Whitney Houston had been planning on having a face lift.

However, the Beverly Hills plastic surgeon engaged to perform the surgery is reported to have refused after the star “failed the routine physical which indicates the condition of the patient’s heart, liver and lungs”.

The magazine article also discusses the rumors circulating about Whitney Houston’s sexuality and the nature of the singer’s friendship with her former creative director, Robyn Crawford.

Contributing editor Mark Seal says a package he sent Robyn Crawford in the hope of speaking with her was returned with “Refused by R. Crawford; does not want” written across the front.

Both Whitney Houston and Robyn Crawford have always denied rumors of a gay relationship.

An autopsy report into Whitney Houston’s death showed her death was an accident, but that she suffered from heart disease and had cocaine, marijuana, as well as other prescription medicines in her system.

Lady Gaga always proves she is a fanatic fashionista and will choose style over comfort any day, but the unpractical block heels that pop star insists on wearing have finally proved too much.

After a day of modelling for famous photographer Annie Leibowitz in New York, Lady Gaga had to be carried by her bodyguard to the last set for the rest of the shoot.
