Gerard Depardieu apologized for his urinary performance.

Gerard Depardieu, who made headlines recently for urinating in the cabin of a airplane, has bounced back with another performance.

Gerard Depardieu and fellow Asterix and Obelix star, Edouard Baer, who was by French actor’s side when he caused a scandal by urinating in front of passengers on a flight from Paris to Dublin, have teamed up for a comic remake.

In a video posted Friday on the Dailymotion website, the pair, appearing as ancient Gaul comic heroes Asterix (Edouard Baer) and Obelix (Gerard Depardieu), are seen reading newspapers as the plane readies for takeoff.

Suddenly Gerard Depardieu, resplendent in the long red plaits and enormous striped pants of his oafish character, blurts out:

“I need a wild boar.”

“I can’t wait, I must have one now,” Gerard Depardieu insists as the flight attendant and Edouard Baer, who is wearing a walrus moustache and winged helmet, try to soothe him.

“These famous Gauls think they can get away with anything,” a young man sitting behind Depardieu remarks indignantly, as Obelix leaps out of his seat and disappears off-screen to satiate his craving.

In the real life version, Gerard Depardieu was reported by a fellow passenger to have urinated on the floor of the plane after being refused permission by a flight attendant to use the toilets during takeoff.

Baer said later Gerard Depardieu urinated into a bottle, not directly onto the floor. There had been some spillage, he admitted, pinning it on 62-year-old French actor’s “dodgy prostate”.

A plane of Chile Air Force, having 21 people aboard, including a popular local television host, crashed in the Juan Fernandez Islands off the country’s Pacific coast, authorities said.

Leopoldo Gonzalez, Juan Fernandez’s mayor said the plane tried without success to land at the islands’ airport, which is 515 miles from Chile’s coast.

“The accident must be accepted as a fact,” Gonzalez said in an interview with Television Nacional de Chile.

Rescuers were searching for the wreckage of the plane but so far they have only found some equipment, the mayor said.

Andres Allamand, defence minister said searchers faced “particularly adverse” conditions, adding that the plane’s status was still listed as missing.

Felipe Camiroaga, one of Chile’s most popular television presenters, was on the flight, Mayor Gonzalez said.

Felipe Camiroaga, 44, worked for the state TV channel’s Good Morning Everyone programme, and was travelling to the islands for a story on the reconstruction following the 27 February magnitude-8.8 earthquake and tsunami that wiped out its main town.

Not very long ago not one person had actually heard of a “Global Positioning System” (GPS).

Today you can scarcely buy a car that doesn’t have one. Not surprisingly, developments in technology never stop, and GPS’s today are substantially smaller and more powerful than ever before. You can bring your GPS everywhere you go, be it boating, driving a car or walking. You will discover only a couple of GPS manufacturers with as much prominence in the industry as Garmin. We have now taken a good, close look at the Garmin 1450LMTGPS, a very small unit, in hope of aiding you with your purchasing decision.

One thing that has been inconvenient years ago was initially having to update your GPS database each and every year. With the introduction of the Garmin 1450LMT, that difficulty is solved. It features no cost map and traffic revisions for the life of the unit. This means you are going to save a ton of hard earned cash on updates, which are not inexpensive. Better yet, you’ll receive Garmin’s “ecoRoute” system updates integrated as well. The ecoRoute system enables you to choose a route that could offer the best gasoline savings. You spend less time And also cash!

Garmin’s 1450LMT features a gorgeous, good sized touchscreen display (5″ diagonal).

Garmin 1450 LMT - Free Maps/Traffic

Garmin 1450 LMT - Free Maps/Traffic

You can quickly check out your travel directions at many numerous map levels. And you should not worry, urban direction-finding is also well designed and integrated. The 1450LMT features street-to-street and also door-to-door navigation so you can get around the city with full confidence. With the stroke of a finger you will find where your stops are for community transport like buses and subways, and exactly where crosswalks are if you’re walking. You’re going to be real glad you have this product the next time you’re in a unexpected new city trying to determine how best to get around.

1450LMT GPS Garmin

My 1450LMT frequently had this problem. You have the option of using a "via point" to tell the GPS to route you via a certain highway. However, if you use a highway intersection as your "via point", the software invariably dumps you off the highway for some random maneuvers before putting you back on your way. I though this one was kinda funny (magenta is my route).

Any getaway can be made far more pleasant simply via proper and effective planning. Garmin’s 1450LMT offers you features for route arranging. The unit enables you to plan (and save) as many as 10 various routes, showing excellent previews and important points along the way for all. Should you be considering on a lot of stops, it’s easy to sort out and save the most suitable routes to accomplish this. When you plan a long journey, there are wonderful tools to take care of that too. There is certainly enough capacity to retain up to 10,000 sights, all of which will be stored instantly. You’ll have a log of your gasoline consumption for further research and future planning.

Garmin 1450LMT - Free Lifetime Maps And Traffic

This targeted article is meant to be concise and to the point, so we cannot go into all the other wonderful features of the 1450LMY.

EcoRoute, as an example, will give you quite possibly the most fuel-efficient recommendations to any destination. Better yet, it keeps gas usage records, as well as other crucial information. This 1450LMT GPS by Garmin can be as flexible and handy as they come, and can be a enormously useful and fun tool for vacationing anywhere. Crossing time zones is taken care of with computerized updates and modifications. Obviously, this product comes highly recommended mostly because of its numerous benefits and features. It’s a great one!

ARena is the app to install for Droid Bionic scavenger hunt

Verizon launched an app for an “augmented reality” scavenger hunt (from September 4 until September 7). The participants could win “the smartphone that controls them all”, the Droid Bionic.

The contestants will have to look  around the city for photos of HDTVs, laptops, tablets, and quadcopters. The prizes include 16 Droid Bionic handsets, four 40-inch LED HDTVs, four Motorola XOOM tablets, four laptops, and four video-streaming Quadcopters. Each player has 30 minutes per game to track down a prize and can play up to 48 times a day.

“Each day for four days, four lucky hunters will win Bionic and one of the machines—there are up to 192 chances to win each prize. Good luck and safe hunting.” (the app description).

ARena is the augmented reality app required to follow the clues  and it can be found on the Android Market.

Motorola Droid Bionic to launch on September 8

Motorola Droid Bionic to launch on September 8

After a waiting of nine months for specifics about the Motorola Droid Bionic, Verizon’s first dual-core smartphone on its high-speed 4G LTE network, Droid Bionic seems to be released on September 8.

The smartphone first showed up with a Tegra 2 dual-core processor. Later, it was said that Droid Bionic would be fitted with a TI OMAP 1.2 GHz processor. The Droid Bionic will have 1GB RAM and 16GB internal memory configuration. It is presumed to have an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash that will feature 1080p video capture capability. Droid Bionic was first showcased with 5.5-ounce weight and 0.52-inch thickness. It comes pre-installed with Android Gingerbread.

Droid Bionic has webtop capabilities (a full suite of Google Apps) and a separately sold lapdock that connects the mobile display to keyboard and mouse.

On the MAP (minimum advertised price) list of upcoming Verizon phones and tablets the Droid Bionic shows with a $299.99 price tag. Droid Bionic is listed as having an average retail value (ARV) of $589.99. Everyone who wants to avoid signing a two-year contract for the Bionic can likely expect to spend $590.

The MAP list includes other devices like the HTC Rhyme (supposed to be a Beat By Dr Dre integrated phone) and a $499 Motorola XOOM LTE tablet that is set to release on the same day as the Motorola Droid Bionic. The XOOM LTE tablet is cheaper than when it was first released and comes preloaded with LTE support.

If you want to enter Droid Bionic scavenger hunt, you should read the instructions on droiddoes.com and download ARena from market.android.com.

Viewing the tidal bore has become an annual tradition for people living by the mouth of the Qiantang River and a popular attraction for visitors as well.

Hundreds of people came at the banks of the Qiantang River in Haining, in east China’s Zhejiang province to see what is considered to be one of Mother Nature’s more unusual spectacles.

Viewing the tidal bore has become an annual tradition for people living by the mouth of the Qiantang River and a popular attraction for visitors as well

However, the spectators unwittingly became part of the show when a huge tidal bore burst through a dam and spilled over the riverbank, sweeping scores of tourists off their feet.

The next moment people were running to save their lives as the huge wave came crashing towards them, engulfing the crowd.

There were no fatalities reported, but more than 20 people were injured after the wave swept through the throng, and some had to receive medical attention.

The astonishing natural phenomenon, which is an abrupt uprising of river water, happens when the moon’s gravity influence tides from the sea, moving them upstream, resulting in the mesmerizing bore.

More than 20 people were injured after the wave swept through the throng

Every year hundreds of people come in Haining to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival of Qiantang River Tidal Bore Watching by eating moon cake and watching the tide

Yanguan Town in Haining, Hangzhou has been regarded as the best place to watch. The annual International Qiantang River Tidal Bore Watching Festival is held here on 18th day of the eighth lunar month.

Authorities advise public to watch the tide in the designated areas, as the tide height may changes quickly and swept the visitors away without notice. Each year, few people die from tide watching, since most of them go beyond the designated tide watching areas.

[youtube n9KEMe1lELU]

Bores only occur in a few locations throughout the world, usually in areas with a large tidal range and where incoming tides are funneled into a shallow, narrowing lake or river.

China’s Qiantang River boasts the largest bore, 8.93 metres (about 30 feet) high and travelling up to 25mph. When the tide approaches, its mighty surging tidal waves look like ten thousand horses galloping ahead. Its earthshaking sound rumbles like muffled thunder. Its force seems to stem from the momentum of an avalanche.

What Happened At The MDA Telethon? Tribute To Jerry Lewis.

MDA Labor Day Telethon 2011 Programme.

Jerry Lewis Is Missing From Today Telethon.

Jerry Lewis NOT back to the MDA Labor Day Telethon hosting.

Jerry Lewis won’t host MDA Labor Day Telethon.

The 46th edition of the MDA Telethon, which will be held in Las Vegas on September 4, is the first show in the entire telethon history without Jerry Lewis’ hosting.

According to organizers, this fall MDA Labor Day Telethon will air in every time zone from 6 p.m. to midnight on Sunday, September 4, broadcasting from the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas.

In 2011, MDA Labor Day Telethon for the first time without Jerry Lewis

In 2011, MDA Labor Day Telethon for the first time without Jerry Lewis

Jerry Lewis, 85, has been MDA’s national chairman since the early 1950s and has hosted the MDA Labor Day Telethon since 1966.

Last May, Jerry Lewis made the announcement that he was retiring as host of the telethon, but added that he would make a final appearance on 2011 show and planned on continuing to serve as Muscular Dystrophy Association’s national chairman.

At the beginning of August, came the surprising news that Jerry Lewis was no longer the MDA’s national chairman and would not take part in 2011 MDA Telethon.

At that time, R. Rodney Howell, MDA Chairman of the Board said in a statement that Lewis “will not be appearing on the telethon” and “we will not be replacing him as MDA national chairman.”

Rodney Howell added that Lewis “is a world-class humanitarian and we’re forever grateful to him for his more than half century of generous service to MDA.”

Though the organizers have not announced a replacement for Jerry Lewis, they promise a full of entertainment program for the 2011 MDA Labor Day Telethon show, as it was posted on association’s website:

“The 46th annual MDA Labor Day Telethon is getting ready to squeeze 21½ hours of entertainment, awareness-building and fundraising into six prime-time hours on Sunday night, Sept. 4.

The shorter show, which is expected to draw more viewers in its prime-time slot, will be fast-paced and jam-packed with top-notch entertainment.

In addition to the shorter national broadcast, each hour of the local Telethon will feature two local segments of seven and eight minutes each.

Top talent and tweets

The prime-time slot already is attracting new talent, such as country music superstars Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum and Martina McBride.

In addition, talented co-hosts Nancy O’Dell, Nigel Lythgoe, Jann Carl and Alison Sweeney will keep things hopping, joined by MDA National Goodwill Ambassador Abbey Umali, 12.

MDA’s social media will add a new dimension to the show with “tweets” and online posts from behind the scenes.

Watch for spontaneous video interviews with Telethon families and celebrities, and follow all the backstage Telethon action on MDA’s Facebook page and Twitter account. These extras will be posted on the MDA website.

Inspiring profiles

Four remarkable young people living with neuromuscular disease will be the subjects of video profiles.

Get Discovered!

MDA’s own version of “American Idol” — Clear Channel’s Get Discovered! contest — again will highlight new musical talent.

New prime-time schedule

Approximately 160 “Love Network” stations will carry the show from coast to coast, and it will be seen around the world via mda.org.

In the 46 years since it began, MDA’s signature event has meant help and hope for those affected by neuromuscular disease — and that’s one thing that will never change.”

The MDA Telethon is an American television institution and is seen each Labor Day weekend by more than 40 million viewers, having an audience comparable to that of the Academy Awards and greater than that of American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, the Emmys and the Golden Globes, according to MDA website.

Seven snakes and three tortoises were packed in women’s pantyhose and found in the man’s pants

A man was arrested in Florida last week at the Miami Airport after he tried to smuggle 10 reptiles on a flight by carrying the animals in his pants.

Seven snakes and three tortoises were packed in women’s pantyhose and found in the man’s pants as he waited to board a flight to Brazil.

The man, who was not named, was arrested by U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife officers and charged with “harbouring animals in an unnatural habitat”, according to the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) Blog.

TSA used specific imaging technology, which allows agents to find potential threats when they found the animals.

The reptiles’ incident came few days after a similar one happened in California, when a woman tried to board a flight to China with endangered birds strapped to her body.

Transportation Security Administration officers found one of the bright yellow birds taped to the woman’s chest and another was taped to her leg as she tried to get onto a flight at Los Angeles Airport.

TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said unusual items are often found on passengers, but the agency was surprised by two creature-smuggling attempts in the same week.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin joined a biker gang on Monday and led them on motorcade at a festival in Novorossiysk, a Black Sea port.

Vladimir Putin, 58, was riding a three-wheeled Harley Davidson and looking very much at home in the latest of macho stunts that have punctuated his political career.

It is well known that Putin’s eccentric photos topless horse-riding and hunting have earned him the nickname “Alpha Dog” in U.S. diplomatic circles.

After riding around for a while, black-clad Vladimir Putin boarded a Soviet-era warship in the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, where the prime minister took part to a festival that mark the city’s liberation during the Second World War.

During his speech at the festival, Putin called the bikers his “brothers”:

“I want to talk to you, brothers. It is cool that you do not forget the heroes of the past.

“Boys, girls you are great. Not only are you having fun while riding your bikes but you are also combining it with patriotic deeds.”

Vladimir Putin’s party, United Russia, intends to secure a 2/3 majority in December’s elections for the Duma lower house of parliament.

The 2/3 majority would give United Russia the power to change the constitution.

It seems campaigning began for real on Monday, after President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree setting the date for the poll as December 4.

The Russian elections from next December will also set the scene for a presidential poll in March 2012.

Nor prime minister Vladimir Putin or president Dmitry Medvedev have said who will run for the presidential race.

At Novorossiysk motorcade, Putin rode along “Night Wolves” biker club members with the hard-rock club anthem in the background.

“Night Wolves” club leader is Alexander Zaldostanov, nicknamed “Surgeon”, one of Vladimir Putin’s friends.

“I told him, <<You have to leave, buddy. You are trespassing on my bus>>.”

“This was the only way I could protect myself… from a man beating up on a woman.”

Matthew Fox, who played Dr. Jack Shephard on the ABC drama series Lost, was then detained by an off-duty officer and placed in handcuffs before the police arrived and took him into custody, TMZ said.

Hurricane Irene’s remnants dissipate over Canada. At least 44 deaths in US.

Hurricane names: how and why scientists named hurricanes?

On Sunday, hurricane Irene passed over New York without major damage to the city, but the storm still caused deaths, serious floods and power blackouts affecting more than a million people as it swept up the US north-eastern seaboard.

Hurricane Irene weakened quickly after making landfall near Atlantic City, New Jersey, at about 5:30 a.m., local time. Four hours later, it made landfall again at Coney Island.

Meanwhile Irene had been downgraded by the National Hurricane Center to a tropical storm with winds at around 65mph – much weaker than the 85mph that was forecast late on Saturday.

Irene’s biggest impact was felt on Sunday night in upstate New York and New England where many communities suffered devastating floods after rivers burst their banks and torrential rains fell on ground already saturated by unusually high downpours earlier this month.

Irene had been downgraded by the National Hurricane Center to a tropical storm with winds at around 65mph

Irene had been downgraded by the National Hurricane Center to a tropical storm with winds at around 65mph

In the Catskills mountain town of Windham, where Irene dropped 10 inches of rain starting on Saturday night, the downtown area was “wiped out” by flood water.

In nearby Prattsville, National Guard soldiers rescued 21 people who had been trapped in a motel by fast-moving water that blew out bridges and roads all over the county, according to Reuters.

Vermont was also experiencing its worst flooding in almost 40 years, according to local reports. Many towns, including Brattleboro, Wilmington, Rutland and Grafton, were under water on Sunday night.

President Barack Obama warned over the storm and its aftermath:

“This is a storm that has claimed lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones,” Barak Obama said.

“Many Americans are still at serious risk of power outages and flooding which could get worse in the coming days. I want people to understand that this is not over.”

Irene killed 3 people as it passed over the north-eastern seaboard.

In New Jersey a young woman was found dead in her car on a flooded rural road. The woman, 20 year-old, who has not yet been identified, had earlier called police after she and her car were washed away by a flash flood.

“She left her house, went in her car and was swept away,” said New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

About 30 miles (48km) north-west of Manhattan, in New York’s Rockland County, a man was electrocuted by a downed power line after he tried to save a child who had gone out into a flooded street that had live wires, officials said. The child is now in hospital in a serious condition.

In Prospect, Connecticut, another person was killed in a fire that investigators believe was sparked by fallen wires.

Irene death toll now stands at more than 15 with lives lost all along the storm’s track from the Carolinas to Virginia and up through Pennsylvania, where a man was killed in his tent by a falling tree, to New York and beyond.

A nuclear reactor in Maryland was shut down after it was damaged by wind. Others were taken offline or were operating at reduced capacity as precautionary measures.

More than 6 million homes and businesses lost power as the storm passed up the east coast. 2 million people were warned or received evacuation orders.

Flooding is likely to be the major problem this week. Parts of Philadelphia were heavily flooded, with water reaching street-sign levels in some areas. Flash flood warnings were issued up and down eastern and central Pennsylvania.

Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania governor said on Sunday: “The rivers may not crest until Tuesday or Wednesday. This isn’t just a 24-hour event.”

New York’s public transport system is likely to be disrupted next week. On Sunday, transport workers waited for winds to die down before they were able to inspect train and subway lines.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said it was too early to say when normal service would be resumed.

The region’s major airports were closed on Sunday and were likely to be closed for at least part of Monday as airlines waited for transport systems to be restored so passengers could reach them.

Izmir murders updates. Shannon Graham at mother’s funeral.

The family of Marian Graham, the mother of five murdered in Turkey, near Izmir, have spoken for the first time of their “absolute devastation”.

Marian Graham, 52, was found stabbed to death on August 18 alongside her best friend Cathy Dinsmore in a remote wooded area close to the city of Izmir, near Kusadasi in Turkey.

Marian Graham 15-year-old daughter Shannon, whose boyfriend, Recep Cetin, has been arrested for the brutal double murder, has revealed that the Turkish youth had NEVER asked her to marry him.

Shannon Graham revelation explodes claims that Cetin murdered the women after Marian refused to allow him to marry Shannon. In her eyewitness account of the events of the fateful night, Shannon details how Recep Cetin – known as Alex – cynically tried to cover his tracks with an extraordinary claim he had been kidnapped by the Turkish Mafia.

Marian Graham and her daughter Shannon.

Marian Graham and her daughter Shannon.

With the approval of her elder siblings, Shannon explained in detail what happened on the day of the double murder.

Alex, who worked in a Kusadasi restaurant called Victoria, was sharing an apartment that Marian, Shannon and Cathy had been staying in since July 16.

On Thursday, August 18, Alex had organized for Shannon to go on a boat trip with a friend.

“The boat trip was for 9 o’clock,” said Shannon.

“But Alex and I woke at 7.30 because he had to be in work for 8 a.m. I went in to Mum to get her to tie my bikini. We left and I went down to Alex’s restaurant to wait for my friend. Alex was cleaning the restaurant and when 9 o’clock came, Alex and I started making our way over to the boat. That’s where I met my friend Sandy. Me, Sandy and Alex went up onto the top of the boat. He stayed with us for about 30 minutes and we took pictures and stuff like that. He told me to ring him during the day to let him know how I was getting on. There were no signs that day, nothing unusual. It was all normal.”

Later, while enjoying her boat trip, Shannon decided to call Alex.

“I first rang him at 12 o’clock but his phone was off,” she said.

“I thought his battery was dead. I rang him again at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. but it was still off. The trip finished at 4.30 and we went back to Alex’s restaurant, round the corner. I thought Alex would have finished his break by then. I asked his boss where he was and he said he wasn’t back from his break. So we waited.”

At 5 p.m., when Alex still failed to show up, Shannon left and went to another restaurant with her friend.

“Then Alex rang me,” Shannon said.

“He was panicking on the phone. He said, <<Come home now – there’s a problem>>.

“I said, <<What’s the matter?>> and he said, <<I’ll tell when you come home>>. Then he rang again and said, <<Where are you?>> and I said, <<I’m waiting for the bus. Why, what’s the problem?>>. He said, <<Me, mum and Cathy’s been kidnapped but I got away>>. Just as he said that, the bus came. When we got to our house, I saw Alex lying outside in the garden. His hand was all bloody. He was shaking. I asked him to explain.”

“He said, <<Me, mum and Cathy were walking to the supermarket and a big car, like a jeep, stopped and these three big Mafia men came out.>>

“I asked him what they looked like and he said they had long hair and moustaches. He said they first took Cathy and that Cathy was in the car pulling her hair and screaming but mum kept grabbing onto Alex so they wouldn’t take her. Alex kept grabbing onto mum and that’s when the kidnappers sliced his hand.”

Recep Cetin told Shannon he woke up in a “ditch” close to where it happened. He claimed he was making his way back to the house when a taxi driver saw him and took him home.

“All the neighbours were there at that stage,” said Shannon.

“I took Alex into the house because he wanted to change out of his clothes. He said he didn’t own them and I had never seen them before. He said the kidnappers changed him into them. We went up to the bedroom and I put his own clothes on him. Then I put the clothes the kidnappers put on him into a bag and I took them downstairs for the police.”

Both Shannon Graham and Recep Cetin (Alex) were taken to the hospital and later to the police station.

“That was the last time I saw him,” Shannon said. She still had no idea that her mother and friend were dead.

“The next day, Friday, me, Alex’s dad and the taxi driver got into a police car. We first went to the hospital but then we went to Izmir. A translator asked me what happened and I told him. After that, we went to the court house and a girl from the Irish embassy told me that mum and Cathy had been found in a forest. She told me that they had been killed. I was so shocked. I was crying. I couldn’t believe it. I was trying to ring my brothers and sisters because I didn’t think they knew.”

Along with Shannon’s father, Raymond McGuinness, from whom Marian separated 10 years ago, her brother David flew to Kusadasi to bring his little sister home.

Shannon Graham and her mother had been going to Turkey for the past eight years, with Cathy Dinsmore joining them for the last three.

Every summer, Shannon, Marian and Cathy excitedly booked their flights for Turkey.

“We stayed there all summer,” said Shannon. “It was something I looked forward to. Cathy did too. When we first went, we stayed in a little apartment beside Ladies’ Beach, then sometimes we stayed in the town but this year, we just rented. We were all well known in Turkey. Mum knew everyone and everyone got on with her. We used to go on trips, go to the shops and off to the swimming pool. We made friends and it was like home from home. I had a second life out there.”

It was during one such holiday that Shannon Graham met Recep Cetin, who would later become her first real boyfriend. But contrary to press reports, she had not been sharing an apartment with him since she was 12.

“I started going out with him more than a year ago,” she said.

“But I first met him four years ago. Mummy knew him for the same length of time. I wanted to go out with him two years ago but Mummy wouldn’t let me because I was too young. She said okay last year so we started going out.”

According to Shannon and her sisters, Marian Graham “trusted” her daughter’s boyfriend.

‘”he was with him a lot of the time,” said Shannon.

“We always went into his family’s restaurant where he worked. Alex and my mummy got on great. He called her Mum. He used to kiss her on the cheek and say, “Goodnight, Mum.”

Shannon Graham insisted reports last week suggesting that Alex had been violent towards her were “totally untrue”. “We argued, like most couples but he never hit me,” she said.

“My mum wouldn’t have let me stay with him if he did. One day we were in the living room and Alex and I were upstairs. Mum thought I was crying but really I was laughing. She was downstairs with Sandy and Sandy said she never saw her jump off the sofa as quick because she thought something was wrong.”

More significantly, the Shannon Graham dismissed claims that Recep Cetin (Alex) had asked to marry her and that her mum had refused.

“That’s why I would just love to know why he did it,” said Shannon

“The marriage part isn’t true. The first thing I heard of that was in the papers. He didn’t ask me to marry him and to my knowledge he didn’t ask my mother either.

“I was wearing Mummy’s ring on my engagement finger when I came home but that has nothing to do with him. He didn’t ask me to marry him.”

On the day of the murders, Marian, Shannon and Cathy had planned to book their tickets home after Shannon returned from the boat trip. They were due to return to Newry this week.

“Mum was supposed to have dinner ready for me when I got back,” said Shannon.

“She wasn’t going anywhere that day. Alex must have planned the shopping trip when he left me. She was sick that morning – she had an upset stomach and would have said if she was going out. Alex just planned that at the last minute. He probably just said, <<Shannon’s away, we’ll do something instead of sitting around the house>>. The last thing she said when I was going out that morning was, <<Give me a kiss and take care>>. She was so affectionate. She loved you to cuddle her a lot.”

For Shannon Graham, who plans to return to school next week, the loss of her mother was difficult to articulate.

“I was always with my mum,” she said. “We went everywhere together. In Turkey, during the day we went to the beach or the pool and at night we went to restaurants – that was our wee routine. I was the baby so I was spoiled but Mummy was strict in some ways. I knew not to cross her but she would have done anything for me. She would have spent her last £20 on me.”

Shannon continued to tell the story:

“I wanted to speak to Alex but the police wouldn’t let me, she said.

“The only thing I wanted to know was why he did it, because I don’t know why he did what he did. When I heard what he did, I couldn’t believe it. He never asked me to marry him so why did he do it? What was going through his mind? Did he ever think twice about what he was actually doing? Did he ever think to stop? And why did he lie to my face about what happened?”

When asked if she ever go back to Turkey, Shannon Graham said:

“I have been going to Turkey for nine years and have good memories there with Mummy.”

“There was a place in town Mum loved. She would sit at the summer seat by the water for hours and hours… I would nag her and try and get her to leave. My memory of her sitting there is a happy one. That’s what I think of when I think of her… happy in Turkey.”

Hurricane Irene: death toll more than 15 and 6 million power outages.

North Carolina: hurricane Irene hit Atlantic beach and killed one person.

New York: 370,000 residents get evacuation order ahead of Irene.

Hurricane Irene killed last night at least ten people, including two children, as the storm hit North Carolina and Virginia. More than 2 million people from South Carolina to Maryland were without power as the giant 580-mile-wide storm brought widespread flooding and high winds that knocked down power lines.

Meanwhile Irene’s power was downgraded to category 1, but as it approached New York, forecasts warned it would hit the city at or near hurricane strength.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions were ripe for tornadoes in the city, Long Island and southern Connecticut, as twisters were reported touching down in Delaware and Maryland.

In Maryland, officials warned of a potential dam failure late on Saturday, they warned “may cause significant flooding that could threaten people, homes and roads downstream from the St. Mary’s Lake Dam”.

St Mary’s County Government urged residents in the immediate downstream area to move family and pets upstairs or to a high place with a means of escape.

Deaths due to hurricane Irene included two children, an 11-year-old boy in Virginia, killed when a tree crashed through his roof and another child from North Carolina, who died in a crash at an intersection where traffic lights were out.

Another man in Onslow County, North Carolina, suffered a heart attack and died while boarding up his windows, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Tornadoes were reported touching down in Delaware and Maryland.

In Lewes, Delaware, Governor Jack Markell said at least 17 homes had been damaged by a twister. In total, up to 40 houses were damaged in the town because of the storm.

The National Weather Service reported a tornado touching down in Nassau Station, Delaware, and Maryland State Police said there was an apparent tornado on the lower Eastern Shore of the state.

Andrew Cuomo, the New York Governor raised the number of National Guard soldiers deployed to New York City to 1,900.

The soldiers, who have been mobilized from across the state, will assist with traffic control on bridges and tunnels, sandbagging operations at the World Trade Center site, evacuation shelter operations in New York, the construction of barriers for railway yards and train tunnels, and other hurricane emergency efforts.

Hurricane Irene came ashore near North Carolina’s Cape Lookout around 7:30am EDT, and then chugged up the coast on a north-northeast track.

Irene stirred up 7 feet waves, and forecasts warned of storm-surge danger on the coasts of Virginia and Delaware, along the Jersey Shore and in New York Harbor and Long Island Sound.

New York City authorities issued an unprecedented order on Friday for the evacuation of about 370,000 residents of low-lying areas at the city’s edges ahead of hurricane Irene.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mare” aliniat=”centrat”]

New York residents will be evacuated from the expensive apartments in Battery Park City to the roller coaster in Coney Island to the dilapidated boardwalk in the Rockaways, as evacuation order warnings that Hurricane Irene was such a threat that people living there simply had to get out.

New York officials also announced plans to shut down the city’s entire transit system Saturday — all 468 subway stations and 840 miles of tracks, and the rest of the nation’s largest mass transit network: thousands of buses in the city, as well as the buses and commuter trains that reach from Midtown Manhattan to the suburbs.

President Barak Obama approved a request from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo of New York to declare a federal emergency in the state while the hurricane was still several hundred miles away.

“The hurricane, 290 miles of fury dancing angrily across the Atlantic Ocean toward the coast, was actually advancing more slowly than most late-summer storms,” the National Weather Service said.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]Friday night Weather Service forecast said rain associated with the storm would begin in Manhattan after 11 a.m. Saturday with conditions worsening into Sunday.

“You only have to look at the weather maps to understand how big this storm is and how unique it is,” New York mayor Michael Bloomberg said at a news conference on Friday at City Hall.

The increasingly ominous announcements from officials — and the wall-to-wall coverage — sent New Yorkers hurrying to buy staples like canned food and candles.

Shoppers in places found that the shelves had been cleaned out. In shore towns in New Jersey and on Long Island, touristss waited in lines at gas stations and watched as bulldozers built berms on low-lying beach roads.

The announcement about the transit shutdown and the evacuation of what the city called Zone A low-lying areas prompted a cascade of cancellations for Saturday and Sunday: Broadway shows, the Mets’ games against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field, the performances by the Dave Matthews Band on Governors Island and the outdoor showing of opera movies at Lincoln Center, among others. Even the New York Aquarium and the Bronx, Central Park and Prospect Park Zoos closed for the weekend.

[googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]Starting at noon Saturday, all three major airports in the New York region will be closed to arriving flights.

They will remain open for departures, pending changes in the weather, but most of those scheduled departures have already been canceled, according to Steve Coleman, a Port Authority spokesman.

Authorities announced the subway shutdown was prompted mainly by wind estimates that suggested the hurricane could rock subway cars in places where they run above ground. The commuter rail lines that serve Long Island, Westchester County and Connecticut will also be shut down, as will New Jersey Transit operations. New Jersey Transit will suspend train service at noon Saturday and will stop bus service six hours later.

New York mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that 91 evacuation centers and shelters opened on Friday for people who could not stay in their homes. The Nassau County executive, Edward P. Mangano, said 20 shelters would be open by the time the storm hit.

Consolidated Edison warned that it would have to cut off power to some customers if underground pipes and cables became submerged in water. To be ready for repairs, Consolidated Edison said it was bringing in 800 additional workers from as far away as Texas.

Mayor Bloomberg said no one would be fined for violating the city’s evacuation orders. “Nobody’s going to go to jail,” he said, but he warned that the storm’s consequences could be fatal.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mare”]At least 7 states – North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and Connecticut – declared emergencies as Hurricane Irene massively advances toward US Eastern Seaboard.

North Carolina is likely to take the first blow, according to officials.

Hurricane Irene advances toward the Eastern Seaboard with 115-mph winds and officials issued a hurricane warning for the entire North Carolina coast to the Virginia border.

New York officials ordered low-lying hospitals and nursing homes to evacuate.

If Hurricane Irene follows its current projected path, it will make landfall along North Carolina’s Outer Banks on Saturday.

“The Category 3 storm withdrew from the Bahamas late Thursday, traveling north at 14 mph,” the National Hurricane Center said.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”dreapta”] Although North Carolina will take the first hit, “the rest of the Eastern Seaboard is well within the path of this storm,” National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read said.

Chris Christie, New Jersey Governor said: “This could be a 100-year event.”

New York City officials said they might have to suspend all mass transit beginning Saturday.
In addition to ordering nursing homes and hospitals in low-lying coastal areas to evacuate ahead of possible flooding, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg advised residents to stay out of parks.

“Because of the high winds that will accompany the storm, we are also urging all New Yorkers, for their own safety, to stay out of parks, where the high winds will increase the danger of downed trees and limbs,” Bloomberg said.

“And incidentally, it’s a good idea to stay out of your own backyard if you have trees there.”

Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial postponed it indefinitely because of the Hurricane Irene.

[googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]More than 50 million people live in the projected path of the storm.

Irene has an outside chance of growing into a Category 4 storm, with sustained winds topping 130 mph. But current forecasts predict it will diminish to Category 2 after pummeling North Carolina, with sustained winds up to 110 mph as it plows into Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.

North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue declared an emergency in all counties east of Interstate 95, about a quarter of the state, and officials set up emergency shelters inland. President Obama declared North Carolina an emergency too, expediting federal help.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency established a depot for food, water, generators, baby formula and other emergency supplies at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as well as at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey and Westover Air Reserve Base in Massachusetts.

Up to 200,000 tourists and residents are affected by evacuation orders in North Carolina alone, with states to the north rushing to prepare their own evacuation plans. Forecasters said Irene was so big and powerful that severe road flooding and widespread electrical outages were likely, especially in the Northeast, where the ground is saturated from recent rains.

“This is a very dangerous storm,” said Dorothy Toolan of the Dare County Emergency Management office in Manteo, North Carolina, across the Roanoke Sound from Nags Head.

“People really need to take this seriously.”

Hurricane Irene would be the first hurricane to hit the US mainland since Ike devastated the Texas coast in 2008.

Tourists on 16-mile-long Ocracoke Island off the coast of North Carolina have been evacuated ahead of Hurricane Irene.

Residents were asked to leave their homes Thursday morning as Hurricane Irene strengthened to a major Category 3 storm over the Bahamas with the East Coast in its sights. North Carolina Governor, Beverly Perdue said today at a news conference.

“It’s a standard precaution.”

“We want folks [in eastern North Carolina] to take this storm seriously and to get prepared.”

Perdue also urged coastal residents to be prepared and fill up their gas tanks, collect their prescription drugs and have cash in case the region is without power or other basics. Hurricane kits also should include water, canned food and other supplies.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”stanga”] However, Governor Perdue tried not to discourage tourists from visiting North Carolina’s coast, saying at this point the state’s southern beaches would avoid the brunt of the storm and predicted Irene would pass the state by Sunday morning – leaving intact the week leading up to the Labor Day holiday.

Governor defended comments she made Tuesday asking the media not to scare away tourists and urging tourists to keep visiting North Carolina.

“You will never endanger your tourists, but you also don’t want to overinflate the sense of urgency about the storm. And so let’s just hang on,” she said.

Tourists on 16 mile long Ocracoke Island off the coast of North Carolina have been evacuated ahead of Hurricane Irene

Tourists on 16 mile long Ocracoke Island off the coast of North Carolina have been evacuated ahead of Hurricane Irene

The today’s Ocracoke Island evacuation served as a “test” to see whether people would leave when faced with the possibility of a hurricane, according to the Associated Press.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said in a tweet that ferries leaving the barrier island, part of the popular Outer Banks, are only half-full and traffic is moderate. They expect traffic to increase as the day goes on.

Hurricane Irene has passed through Puerto Rico and other parts of the Caribbean, and is headed for the East Coast, the Capital Weather Gang reports.

Hurricane current trajectory suggests that it will hit North Carolina directly, but nothing is certain. Should Irene stay on its current path, the National Hurricane Center’s forecast predicts that it will make landfall Saturday.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]

In Ocracoke Island cars were lined up at gas pumps to fill tanks before leaving ahead of Irene, which had winds near 120 mph (193 kph) as of Wednesday afternoon.

 [youtube i9_2bPLxPWI]

Irene is expected to get stronger over warm ocean waters and could become a Category 4 storm with winds of at least 131 mph (211 km/h) by Thursday.

As Irene churned in the Caribbean, tourists scurried from hotels in the Bahamian capital of Nassau to catch flights off the island before the airport’s expected afternoon closure.

The first ferry to leave Ocracoke Island in North Carolina arrived just before 5:30 a.m. in nearby Hatteras with around a dozen cars on board.

The 16-mile-long barrier island is accessible only by boats that can carry no more than 50 cars at a time.

Ocracoke Island is home to about 800 year-round residents and a tourist population that swells into the thousands when vacationers rent rooms and cottages.

It wasn’t clear how many people on the first arriving ferry Wednesday morning were tourists, but the first two cars to drive off had New York and New Jersey plates.

State workers questioned people who tried taking the ferry to the island and turned a few cars around. In addition to the ferry line to Hatteras, there were two other ferry lines that went to and from the island.

Ocracoke is part of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, a roughly 200-mile stretch of fragile barrier islands off the state’s coast. Pristine beaches and wild mustangs attract thousands of tourists each year. Aside from Ocracoke, the other islands are accessible by bridges to the mainland and ferries. The limited access can make the evacuation particularly tense. Officials in counties covering the rest of the Outer Banks were to decide later Wednesday or Thursday whether to evacuate.

[googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”stanga”] All the barrier islands have the geographic weakness of jutting out into the Atlantic like the side-view mirror of a car, a location that’s frequently been in the path of destructive storms over the decades. In 1999, Hurricane Floyd made landfall as a Category 2 storm and caused a storm surge that wiped out scores of houses and other properties on the Outer Banks.

It’s been more than seven years since a major hurricane, considered a Category 3 with winds of at least 111 mph (179 km/h), hit the East Coast. Hurricane Jeanne came ashore on Florida’s east coast in 2004.

Wednesday, at 2 p.m. EDT, Irene was centered about 250 miles (402 km) southeast of Nassau in the Bahamas and was moving northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h).

Elvis Presley’s 34th commemoration held at Graceland

Jerry Leiber, legendary songwriter of rock’n’roll music, died of cardiopulmonary failure on Monday, August 22, at Cedar Sinai medical Centre in Los Angeles. He was 78.

Jerry Leiber passed quickly and with minimum discomfort, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his three sons, Jed, Oliver, and Jake, and his two granddaughters, Chloe and Daphne. You can honor his memory by committing your life to excellence and joy. Of course, Jerry would never have said anything like that. He would have said:

‘Let’s break out the booze, and have a ball…’

That works, too. L’chaim, Unca Jer.” Wrote Peter Stoller on Leiber & Stoller’s website.

Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller have been writing songs for almost sixty years. They created classics in various genres, Rhythm & Blues, Pop, Jazz, Cabaret, and they could said they had contributed to the birth of Rock&Roll.

Jerry Leiber was born on April 25, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland and he met Mike Stoller in 1950.

“Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “Stand By Me”, “Spanish Harlem”, “Yakety-Yak”, “Young Blood”, “On Broadway”, “Poison Ivy”, “Stand By Me”, “Love Potion No. 9”, ” Love Me”,  “King Creole”, “There Goes My Baby”, “Charlie Brown” are some of their most known songs.

Jerry and Mike were teenagers back then, they shared a passion for blues and wrote songs for amusement. Jerry Leiber was writing mostly the lyrics and Mike Stoller was composing the music.

“Jerry was an idea machine. For every situation, Jerry had 20 ideas.” Mike Stoller said in their autobiography “Hound Dog” (2009).

Their songs were recorded by Jimmy Witherspoon, Little Esther, Little Willie Littlefield, Charles Brown,  Ray Charles, the Drifters, Coasters and the Robins. In 1953 Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton recorded “Hound Dog” and the Atlantic Records became interested in them.

Elvis Presley made “Hound Dog” a huge hit in 1956, but Jerry Leiber was upset because Elvis had change the lyrics.

“The song is not about a dog; it’s about a man, a freeloading gigolo. Elvis’ version makes no sense to me, and, even more irritatingly, it is not the song that Mike and I wrote. Of course, the fact that it sold more than seven million copies took the sting out of what seemed to be a capricious changes of lyrics.” Said Jerry Leiber in their memoir “Hound Dog”.

In 1959 the Coasters’ “Poison Ivy” went to number 1 on the R&B chart and number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“Pure and simple, ‘Poison Ivy’ is a metaphor for a sexually transmitted disease – or the clap – hardly a topic for a song that hit the Top Ten in the Spring of 1959.” “But the more we wrote, the less we understood why the public bought what it bought.” Jerry Leiber said.

In 1964 the Beatles became popular in US and the music trends changed, however in 1972 their Stealers Wheel’s “Stuck In The Middle With You” was a hit.

“Is That All There Is?” won Grammy award in 1969 and same did the cast album of “Smokey Joe’s Café”, a 1995 Broadway musical. They were inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985.

8/28 UPDATE HP TouchPad STILL IN STOCK

HP tablet: Best Buy will sell TouchPad at fire sale prices.

HP TouchPad Australian exclusive retailer, Harvey Norman has decided to pull HP tablet from shelves, rushing the liquidation of HP’s tablet from the market barely weeks after its launch.

HP TouchPad launch on Australian market had happened only 4 days before Hewlett-Packard‘s unexpected decision to discontinue device operations, the Register reported.

Harvey Norman’s decision came even as Hewlett-Packard’s PR agency was sending review devices to technology writers, the report said.

The HP TouchPad is not currently listed on the retailer’s Web site anymore. Harvey Norman said it will offer full refund to customers who would return the tablet following the decision.

Harvey Norman has decided to pull HP TouchPad from shelves

[googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]The customers who decide to keep HP TouchPad have been warned that post-sales service would not be available. Only about 1000 HP TouchPad had been sold before the decision to pull them from the shelves was announced.

HP made the surprising announcement, which shocked the entire industry, on Thursday saying it was exiting the PC business and discontinuing operations for HP Touchpad tablet computer based on Palm’s webOS software.

It said HP board has “authorized the exploration of strategic alternatives for its Personal Systems Group” and plans to close down its webOS device business. The shocking announcement came only few days after Google agreed to buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion.

HP’s decision apparently followed the poor performance of HP TouchPad just weeks into its worldwide launch. The tablet got only a small impact on the market and was unable to compete with Apple’s iPad 2 and other Android tablets in terms of both features as well as ecosystem.

Following negative market feedback, HP reduced HP TouchPad price by $100 to boost its sales, but that did not help. Best Buy and other HP retailers started complaining of more than 200,000 units lying unsold in their warehouses. In response to their complaints, HP credited Best Buy and other resellers about $100 million for their unsold inventory.

As a result of HP’s decision to exit personal computer business, the HP TouchPad was immediately on a fire sale, with retailers reducing prices drastically. 16GB and 32GB tablets prices were reduced considerably to $99 and $149 respectively.

“HP will be lowering the price of the TouchPad beginning Saturday 8/20/11. This is the lowest price ever for the TouchPad so please post it as soon as it goes live,” an HP memo had said.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mediu” aliniat=”stanga”]Raymond McGuinness, one of the Izmir murders victim’s ex-husband arrived in Turkey yesterday evening to comfort his distraught daughter, Shannon Graham.

Saturday afternoon, Raymond McGuinness, accompanied by his son David, went to the central courthouse of Izmir to identify the bodies of Marion Elizabeth Graham, his ex-wife and her best friend, Kathy Dinsmore, through photographs.

When he was leaving the court, Shannon Graham’s father said:

“I have met Shannon earlier today, and she is very upset.”

“Once the identification process is over, then we will try to repatriate the bodies back to Ireland, but that won’t be until mid-week.”

“This is clearly a very distressing time for us, and so we would like a bit of privacy.”

Shannon’s father described his ex-wife, one of the Izmir murders victims, as “the life and soul of the party” who “adored Shannon”.

 [googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]

Shannon Graham called the police when her mother and her best friend, Kathy Dinsmore, failed to return from a daytrip with Cetin Recep, who is also known locally by the name Alex.

According to local media reports Cetin Recep stabbed Marion Graham, 54, in the heart and cut Kathy Dinsmore’s throat. Both women were stabbed as many as 15 times.

Cetin Recep confessed the Izmir murders.

Cetin Recep confessed the Izmir murders.

Cetin Recep clashed with Shannon Graham’s mother, Marion, last week when she learned he had kicked Shannon during a fight.

Raymond McGuinness said Marion Graham “went ballistic” and warned Cetin never to lay a finger on her daughter again.

McGuiness said also that Cetin Recep had threatened to kill Marion but that Shannon had dismissed the threat as “just words”. The young Turkish waiter, Cetin Recep, was a “possessive” and jealous boyfriend, who became “besotted” with Shannon when they met about one and a half year ago at the restaurant where he worked.

Last Thursday, Cetin recep took Marion Graham and her best friend, Kathy Dinsmore on a shopping trip to Izmir, while Shannon was in a boat trip for the day.

Cetin’s uncle, who wanted to remain anonymous, said:

“They left by taxi for Izmir, where his father Eyup runs a shop. There, Cetin took a family car to drive the women out to the woodland area of Buca where he murdered them.”

“A friend of Cetin’s called me and said Cetin was at the police station and had been stabbed. I don’t have a lot of time for my nephew – he’s disrespectful and arrogant but he’s family and so I had to go and see.”

“When I arrived at Kusadasi police station, Cetin and Shannon were both there. Cetin had a cut bandaged on his hand. I spoke to him for a few minutes and he told me a story about three men in a black van.”

“He couldn’t explain how he returned to Kusadasi.”

“I talked to Shannon at the station. She seemed very calm and was coming up with suggestions as to who the men in the black van might be. She wasn’t sobbing or crying.”

One of the Recep Cetin’s friends told Turkish police that Cetin had dumped a bag in a bin near family house. Investigators discovered Cetin’s blood-stained clothes.

Recep Cetin’s uncle added:

“I think his story fell apart and after a few further hours of interrogation, Cetin broke down and confessed.”

“He told police that Marion planned to take Shannon back to Ireland, effectively ending their romance.”

“Cetin and Shannon were very much in love.”

“They had been virtually inseparable for the last two years. Shannon’s been coming here since she was a child – she’s well known on Ladies Beach.”

“Everyone knew she was Cetin’s girlfriend. They would argue – that’s quite normal. I think he slapped her once or twice.”

“He would get cross if she sunbathed topless – those things are quite common here with Muslim men dating independent Western women.”

Another friend of Cetin, Veli, from Sundial Tours, known as Slim Jim confirmed that both teenagers were serious about each other:

“Recep was like a younger brother to me. Yes, he could be a bit headstrong but he was a 17-year-old lad. He had the odd fight but nothing serious.”

“He never pushed Shannon to convert to Islam.. He was comfortable with her western style of dress. He knew short skirts and bikinis were normal for her.”

“I’m stunned about what’s happened. It just doesn’t make sense. They could have waited a couple more years and married anyway without her mum’s permission. It’s a terrible tragedy.”

Dan Doyle – ex-husband of the other Izmir murders victim, Kathy Dinsmore – suffered an astonishing tragic coincidence when his second wife died on the same day.

Dan Doyle, from Newry, Ireland – Kathy Dinsmore’s ex-husband – was mourning the death of his second wife, Colette Doyle, who died suddenly in hospital on Thursday, the same day as the Izmir murders.

Kathy Dinsmore and her best friend Marion Graham were murdered in a forest, near the city of Izmir, 70 miles from sunshine resort of Kusadasi after they objected to a Turkish teenager, Recep Cetin, marrying Marion Graham’s 15-year-old daughter, Shannon.

It is understood that Dan Doyle and Kathy Dinsmore have been divorced for several years and that he subsequently married Colette with whom he had three children.

Colette Doyle died suddenly in Craigavon Area Hospital on Thursday, leaving six children – Gareth, Kevin, Brendan, Conlin, Hannah and Danielle. Another child, Darryl, tragically died previously.

Recep Cetin, Turkish waiter who has confessed the murders of two British women in a forest near Izmir city on Thursday has been charged with stabbing to death Marion Graham and her friend Kathy Dinsmore.

Recep Cetin, 17, initially tried to cover up their murders by claiming they had been abducted by a gang of men.

The teenager has been charged with stabbing to death Marion Graham, 54, following a row over her daughter Shannon, 15, who he was dating.

He drove Marion Graham and her friend Kathy Dinsmore, 54, to a forest near Izmir and stabbed them. Marion Graham was stabbed in her heart and Kathy Dinsmore had her throat cut.

Recep Cetin, who is now in police custody, was a well-known figure on the beachfront at the Turkish[googlead tip=”vertical_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”] resort of Kusadasi, at the Aegean Sea, westside of the Turkey, and was nicknamed Alex by British tourists.

The young man, who dropped out of school at 13, had been dating Marion Graham’s daughter, Shannon, for 18 months. Last May, he rented a villa in Kusadasi which he shared with Shannon, Marion Graham and Kathy Dinsmore.

Marion and Shannon Graham, who both lived in County Down, Northern Ireland, but travelled on Irish passports, used to spend the summertime in Turkey.

Their Kusadasi neighbors said they often heard shouting and arguing coming from villa.

One resident said:

“They didn’t really fit in here. It’s a very quiet, friendly place. There was a lot of aggression and raised voices – we kept our distance.”

Local media reports claim Recep Cetin told police he had pleaded with Marion graham one last time in the woods to let Shannon stay in Kusadasi and marry him. But woman refused, claiming Shannon was too young, and was supported by her friend Kathy Dinsmore.

Last Thursday, Cetin offered to take Marion and her friend on a shopping trip to Izmir, 70 miles away, after dropping off Shannon to go on a boat trip.

According to Recep Cetin’s uncle, who has asked not to be named, the teenager then used a local taxi to ferry women to Izmir where his father Eyup runs a corner shop. From Izmir, Recep Cetin took a family car to drive them out to the woodland area of Buca.

[googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]Recep Cetin returned to Kusadasi where he claimed a black van had pulled up in the forest with three men inside. He also said the men tried to abduct Marion and Kathy, and while trying to fight them off he was cut on the hand and knocked unconscious.

But according to his uncle his story was unconvincing.

“When I arrived at Kusadasi police station Cetin and Shannon were there. Cetin had a cut bandaged on his hand. He couldn’t explain how he returned to Kusadasi.”

“After a few hours of interrogation Cetin broke down and confessed to killing the women. He told police Marion planned to take Shannon back to Ireland, ending their romance and they were heartbroken.”

Turkish police initially arrested Cetin’s father, Eyup Cetin, and the taxi driver that had taken the group to Izmir.

Marion Graham, who was divorced from Shannon’s father, had remarried a Turk named Yucel but they have separated. Shannon’s father, Raymond McGuinness also owns an apartment in Kusadasi.

Raymond McGuiness arrived in Izmir Saturday after flying from Ireland to be with his daughter and to identify the bodies.

He said:

“I have met Shannon and she is very upset. This is clearly a very distressing time for us.”

Recep Cetin has been further remanded in custody but his father, Eyup, and the taxi driver were released.

Last night it emerged that Kathy Dinsmore’s ex-husband, Dan Doyle, suffered a double tragedy last week when his current wife, Colette, 54, died in hospital on the same day Kathy was killed. Colette, the mother of three of Mr Doyle’s children, died suddenly in Craigavon Area Hospital, Portadown, on Thursday.

Severe storms hit Pittsburgh on Friday, cutting electricity to hospitals and universities and submerging vehicles on the main road, on Allegheny River’s valley and killing four people.

The severe storm that hit Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Friday cut electricity to hospitals and universities and submerged many vehicles in a flash flood that killed a woman and two children. Another person,  a 70-year-old woman, was disappeared and  found dead Saturday after a search by about 40 rescue workers.

According to officials, along Washington Boulevard, the main road that parallels the Allegheny River in the city’s Highland Park section, water rose up to 9 feet (about 2.7 meters) in some places, making the drivers unable to use their cars.

Inflatable boats were used by Pittsburgh’s rescue crews to reach and help drivers, though some swam to safety on their own. Rhodearland “Bob” Bailey of Penn Hills, who is about 80, was rescued from the roof of his car.

“I can swim a little bit and was looking at a tree branch,” Bailey told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

“I heard one woman yelling for help, but the water was coming down so fast, I couldn’t see. … I’ve never seen nothing like this in my life. Lord have mercy.”

Rihaan Gangat, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service said the area received 2.1 inches of rain in an hour (about 53 liters/square meter). But an earlier storm that hit the region came with 3 (about 76 liters/square meter) to 4 (about 102 liters/square meter) inches of rain overall on Friday.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”stanga”] Michael Huss, Pittsburgh public safety director said at a news conference the victims, one woman and two children, identified by the medical examiner as 45-year-old Kimberly Griffith of Plum, 12-year-old Brenna Griffith and 8-year-old Mikaela Griffith , were unable to escape their car, which was completely submerged and pinned to a tree and the rescue crews floated over the car without knowing it was below.

“The bottom of the boat didn’t even scrape against the top of the car,” said Raymond DeMichiei, deputy director of the city Office of Emergency Management.

“A fourth person, a 70-year-old woman, disappeared and was found dead Saturday after a search by about 40 rescue workers” Police Chief Nate Harper said. He declined to identify her or give the circumstances of her death.

Nate Harper said the rescuers found 18 vehicles stranded in the high water and saved 11 people. One woman, who was rescued, required hospitalization.

Flood had receded by evening, but the road remained closed through Saturday, as emergency crews work to clear the mud and all the stranded cars.

Tara Howes, 34, from Gibsonia, told the Tribune-Review that “manhole covers started popping up and it looked like the road exploded and the waters came up really fast. I saw people swimming on the sides of the road. It was pretty scary.”

Pittsburgh flash floods hit a city area that experienced serious flooding last month. The main road, Washington Boulevard, is parallel to the river and situated in a valley. Rushing water from a July 18 storm stranded motorists and caused a section of the road to buckle.

Claudia Gallagher, 55, from West Mifflin, was driving north on Washington Boulevard at the height of the rainfall Friday and tried to get off the road as the water rose.

“We tried to drive up onto the curb, but the water had other ideas,” she told the Post-Gazette.

The car began to float, and she opened the window and climbed onto the roof.

“Many other drivers nearby were sitting atop their cars, too,” she said.

Friday morning, another storm cut electricity to University of Pittsburgh, which interrupted activity for the day. Parts of Carlow and Carnegie Mellon Universities also encountered power outages.

“Flights at Pittsburgh International Airport were grounded because of lightning just after 3 p.m.,” spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny said.

Two hospitals worked on emergency power after rains flooded a substation in the city’s Oakland neighborhood.
