Final Debate: Donald Trump Refuses to Commit to Accepting Poll Result

In the final debate against rival Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump has refused to commit to accepting the election result if he loses.

The Republican nominee told moderator Chris Wallace: “I will tell you at the time.”

For days Donald Trump has claimed the election is “rigged”.

The Las Vegas debate on October 19 continued the campaign’s bitter tone, with Donald Trump calling Hillary Clinton a “nasty woman”.

The final battle of wits came less than three weeks before election day on November 8.Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Super Tuesday

The candidates declined to shake hands before and after the political sparring, setting the tone for what would later become yet another debate marked by shouting and interrupting.

Donald Trump appealed to the Republican establishment by vowing to appoint Supreme Court justices with a “conservative bent” who would overturn a key ruling that made abortion legal in the US and protect gun rights.

The billionaire  also stuck to his pledge to deport undocumented immigrants and secure US borders.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton firmly declared she would stand up for the LGBT community, defend abortion rights, focus on restoring the middle class and equal pay for women.

“The government has no business in the decisions that women make,” she said.

In one of the more striking moments, Donald Trump twice declined to say whether he would accept the election’s outcome, breaking with the country’s long-standing tradition of a losing candidate’s concession after the votes are counted.

“That’s horrifying,” Hillary Clinton shot back.

“He is denigrating and he is talking down our democracy. And I, for one, am appalled that somebody who is the nominee of one of our two major parties would take that kind of a position.”

Donald Trump’s response drew sharp criticism from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who said the candidate was “doing the party and country a great disservice by continuing to suggest the outcome of the election is out of his hands and ‘rigged’ against him,” according to a statement.

When asked about her paid speech to a Brazilian bank in which she spoke of her dream of open trade and open borders, Hillary Clinton said she was talking about energy policy.

In one key exchange, Donald Trump attacked Hillary Clinton’s 30 years of “very bad experience” and she responded by going through her timeline, comparing where she was to where Trump was.

While she was in the White House helping to track down Osama Bin Laden, “he was hosting the Celebrity Apprentice”, Hillary Clinton said.

Donald Trump has faced damaging fallout after a video emerged of him making inappropriate comments about groping women, with senior Republicans deserting him.

When pressed about assault allegations made against him by several women in the wake of the video, Donald Trump said the claims had been “largely debunked”.

In addressing the groping accusations, Hillary Clinton said: “Donald thinks belittling women makes him bigger.”

“Nobody has more respect for women than I do,” Donald Trump said as the crowd was heard scoffing.

Donald Trump also blamed Hillary Clinton, whose campaign he said was responsible for drumming up the allegations.

North Korea Conducts Another Failed Missile Launch

0

North Korea has carried out another failed missile launch, according to the South Korean military.

The launch of the intermediate-range missile is the second failed test in less than a week after North Korea’s recent launch of a Musudan missile, which has an estimated range of 2,500 miles.North Korea long range missile

The missile is said to be capable of hitting US bases as far away as Guam.

It has been tested eight times this year, with only one success.

However, experts fear it could become operational as early as next year.

The US condemned the launch, calling it a “further provocation”.

North Korea’s last test was denounced by the UN, which has banned it from any use of ballistic or nuclear technology.

Schiaparelli Mission Expected to Land on Mars

The European Space Agency’s probe Schiaparelli was supposed to land on Mars on October 19.

The ExoMars mission was hoping to land the module at 3:48PM BST, but no signal from it has been received so far.

The Schiaparelli lander is named after the 19th century Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli. He was born on March, 14, 1835, 181 years to the very day before the launch of the mission that bears his name.

A radio transmission that should have allowed scientists to follow the probe to the surface was not received.

Controllers hope that satellites in orbit at Mars will have detected it and will shortly be able to confirm that the probe got down safely.

Landing on Mars is always a daunting prospect.

It is a high-speed approach that has to be got just right or the spacecraft runs the risk of crashing into the ground.

Schiaparelli had a heatshield, a parachute and rocket thrusters to try to get itself to the surface intact.

The ESA will not be rushed to judgement on whether this mission has been a success or a failure.

It will wait on the reports of the satellites. Both European and American orbiters were tasked with tracking the event.

If Schiaparelli is later confirmed as down and safe, it will spend the next few days making measurements of the Martian environment and current weather conditions – at least until its batteries run out.

Donald Trump Vs. Hillary Clinton in Final Debate

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will take to the stage in Las Vegas on October 19 for the final debate in an increasingly bitter race for the presidency.

According to latest polls, Donald Trump is losing in key battleground states after facing a slew of assault allegations.

However, Hillary Clinton remains unpopular with many voters and has faced more bad headlines about her use of a private email server.

Most Americans will cast their votes on November 8.

Millions are expected to tune into the third and final debate at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada, which gets under way at 09:00 EDT and will be moderated by Fox News journalist Chris Wallace.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will discuss six topics: The debt and entitlements, immigration, the economy, the Supreme Court, foreign flashpoints and their fitness to be president.Hillary Clinton on Donald Trump anti Muslim rhetoric

The Republican presidential candidate has faced damaging fallout after a video emerged of him making inappropriate comments about groping women, with senior Republicans deserting him.

In recent days Donald Trump has railed against the election process itself, warning the vote is “absolutely rigged” with “large-scale voter fraud” taking place.

The New York billionaire’s remarks prompted a scathing response from President Barack Obama, who said the Republican challenger should “stop whining”.

Donald Trump has invited Barack Obama’s estranged half-brother, Malik Obama – one of his supporters – as a guest.

He also invited Patricia Smith, whose son was killed in an attack on the US diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, in 2012, while Hillary Clinton was US secretary of state.

In contrast to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton has kept a low profile ahead of the debate to prepare for the showdown.

Hillary Clinton’s spokesman said the Democratic nominee was ready for whatever “scorched-earth” tactics her rival might try.

She is likely to face questions about a batch of hacked emails from the account of her campaign boss, released by WikiLeaks, that Donald Trump has seized on.

Before the last debate, Donald Trump appeared at a news conference with women who accused Bill Clinton of s**ual misconduct. Since then he has suggested Hillary Clinton took performance-enhancing drugs ahead of that meeting.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign has signaled their candidate will try to focus on policy.

Among her guests, Hillary Clinton is bringing Donald Trump critic Mark Cuban, as well as Hewlett Packard Enterprise CEO Meg Whitman, one of her highest-profile Republican backers.

The rock and roll legend said in a statement: “I’ve worked on this record for a long time.

“Now I can hang up my shoes!”

Chuck Berry said the record was dedicated to Themetta “Toddy” Berry, his “beloved” wife of 68 years.

Two of the veteran musician’s children, Charles Berry Jr. and Ingrid Berry, will be heard on the album playing guitar and harmonica respectively.

Charles Berry Jr. said the new songs “cover the spectrum from hard-driving rockers to soulful, thought-provoking time capsules of a life’s work.”

Other longtime members of Chuck Berry’s hometown backing group – among them bass player Jimmy Marsala and pianist Robert Lohr – will play on the disc.

In a career spanning seven decades, Chuck Berry has released a string of classic songs such as Roll Over Beethoven and Johnny B Goode.

Chuck Berry received a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1984 and was among the first inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

Ecuador Admits Restricting Julian Assange’s Internet Access in London Embassy

Ecuador has admitted it partly restricted internet access for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who is taking refuge at its London embassy.

It said Julian Assange had in recent weeks released material that could have an impact on the US presidential election.

The country also said its move was not the result of pressure from Washington.

The US denied WikiLeaks accusations that it had asked Ecuador to stop the site publishing documents about Hillary Clinton.Julian Assange assault inquiry dropped

Julian Assange has sought asylum at London’s Ecuadorean embassy since 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden over assault allegations.

In a statement, the Ecuadorean foreign ministry said WikiLeaks‘ decision to publish documents could have an impact on the US presidential election.

It said the release was entirely the responsibility of the organization, and Ecuador did not want to interfere in the electoral process.

“In that respect, Ecuador, exercising its sovereign right, has temporarily restricted access to part of its communications systems in its UK Embassy,” the statement said.

It added that “Ecuador does not yield to pressures from other countries”.

WikiLeaks earlier said that Ecuador had cut off Julian Assange’s internet access on October 15.

The site has recently been releasing material from Hillary Clinton’s campaign, including those from a hack of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s emails.

WikiLeaks released transcripts on October 15 of paid speeches Hillary Clinton made to Goldman Sachs in the past, which her campaign had long refused to release.

The scripts reveal bantering exchanges with bank executives, which correspondents say may increase concerns among liberal Democrats that she is too cosy with Wall Street.

Hillary Clinton’s camp has claimed the cyber-breach was orchestrated by Russian hackers with the aim of undermining the US democratic process.

While Hillary Clinton’s team has neither confirmed nor denied the leaked emails are authentic, there have been no indications they are fake.

According to the latest leaked emails, Hillary Clinton told a Goldman Sachs conference she would like to intervene secretly in Syria.

The Democratic presidential nominee made the remark in answer to a question from Lloyd Blankfein, the bank’s chief executive, in 2013 – months after she left office as secretary of state.

“My view was you intervene as covertly as is possible for Americans to intervene,” Hillary Clinton told employees of the bank in South Carolina, which had paid her about $225,000 to give a speech.

Hillary Clinton – who is accused of being hawkish by liberal critics – added: “We used to be much better at this than we are now. Now, you know, everybody can’t help themselves.

“They have to go out and tell their friendly reporters and somebody else: Look what we’re doing and I want credit for it.”

Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir of Saudi Arabia Executed for Murder

Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir of Saudi Arabia has been executed for shooting dead a man during a brawl three years ago in the capital Riyadh, the interior ministry has said.

The prince was put to death in the capital. No details were given as to how he was executed, but most condemned people are beheaded.

Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir is the 134th person to be put to death this year, according to a list compiled by the AFP news agency.

It is rare for royal family members to be executed, correspondents say.

Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir had pleaded guilty to shooting his compatriot, the interior ministry statement said.

Announcing the execution, the ministry said it would assure everyone the government was “keen to preserve security and achieve justice”.

The victim’s family refused offers of “blood money” by which they would receive financial compensation in return for not demanding the death sentence, Al-Arabiya reported.

One of the most well-known cases of a Saudi royal being executed was that of Faisal bin Musaid al Saud, who assassinated his uncle, King Faisal, in 1975.

Most people executed in Saudi Arabia are convicted for murder and drug trafficking although nearly 50 people were put to death for “terrorism” on a single day in January including the prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.

Barack Obama Rejects Donald Trump’s Claim of Rigged Election

Barack Obama has urged Donald Trump to “stop whining” as he rejected his claim that November 8 election will be rigged.

The president said Donald Trump’s attempt to discredit a poll before it has even taken place was “unprecedented” for a presidential candidate.

Also “unprecedented”, said Barack Obama, was Donald Trump’s “flattery” of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Donald Trump is facing sinking poll numbers and accusations of assault.

The New York billionaire has claimed the next month’s election will be “absolutely rigged” for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

In a White House Rose Garden news conference on October 18 alongside visiting Italian PM Matteo Renzi, President Obama said Donald Trump’s assertions were “based on no facts”.

“I’d advise Mr. Trump to stop whining and try to make his case to get votes,” Barack Obama said.

“By the way,[it] doesn’t really show the kind of leadership and toughness that you want out of a president, if you start whining before the game’s even over.

“If whenever things are going badly for you and you lose you start blaming somebody else, then you don’t have what it takes to be in this job.”Donald Trump criticized by Barack Obama

President Obama also addressed Donald Trump’s admiring remarks about Vladimir Putin.

“Mr. Trump’s continued flattery of Mr. Putin and the degree to which he appears to model much of his policies and approach to politics on Mr. Putin is unprecedented,” Barack Obama said.

The president’s broadside comes a day after Donald Trump said he would consider visiting Russia before taking office, if elected.

Donald Trump told a talk-radio host: “If I win on November 8, I could see myself meeting with Putin and meeting with Russia prior to the start of the administration.”

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump face off in the third and final presidential debate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on October 19.

The Republican nominee has seen his poll numbers slide since their first battle of wits, followed by the emergence of the 2005 tape that he was forced to address in the second debate.

Donald Trump denied any impropriety, but a number of women have come forward with assault allegations against him.

Hillary Clinton will head into October 19 debate with a seven-point lead over Donald Trump, according to a Monmouth University poll. Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump 47% to 40%, while 7% of likely voters say they will support the Libertarian Party candidate, Gary Johnson.

Syrian War: Asma al-Assad Rejected Asylum Offer

Bashar al-Assad’s wife, Asma, has said she rejected a deal to offer her safe passage out of Syria in order to stay by her husband’s side.

Syria’s First Lady Asma al-Assad revealed she believed those offering her a new home were trying to undermine her husband’s presidency.

In an interview with Russian state-backed television, Asma al-Assad refused to say who made the offer.

EU foreign ministers are set to impose a travel ban and asset freeze on Syria First Lady Asma al-Assad

She also thanked Russia for its “noble efforts” supporting the regime.

Asma al-Assad, whose social media pages are filled with pictures of her meeting orphans and the injured, told Rossiya 24: “I’ve been here since the beginning and I never thought of being anywhere else at all.

“Yes I was offered the opportunity to leave Syria or rather to run from Syria. These offers included guarantees of safety and protection for my children and even financial security.

“It doesn’t take a genius to know what these people were really after. It was a deliberate attempt to shatter people’s confidence in their president.”

Asma al-Assad, a former investment banker who was born in London, has been Syria’s first lady since 2000, after Bashar al-Assad took over the presidency from his father Hafez, who had ruled since 1971.

The Syrian civil war began after pro-democracy campaigners demanding that Bashar al-Assad step aside took to the streets in March 2011, and were violently repressed by the authorities.

IKEA Shanghai Bans Matchmaking Seniors

0

IKEA Shanghai has imposed a “no food, no seating” rule to discourage elderly people who are part of a dating community from loitering.

The store has seen a strange phenomenon of senior citizens descending upon its famed cafeteria to socialize and even find partners.

Locals said it occurs twice weekly, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

China’s state broadcaster CCTV News reported that the elderly patrons would often buy a cup of coffee or some bread and “spend an entire day just chatting with others”.

They are believed to be part of a dating community, making use of their IKEA membership cards.

This week, the Swedish furniture giant put a stop to it by imposing a strict “no food, no seating” rule to discourage senior citizens from occupying canteen seats for “extended periods”.

In a notice posted at the entrance of the IKEA Shanghai Restaurant, staff identified an “illegal blind-dating group” and accused it of “uncivilized behavior”.

“The situation has adversely affected the dining experience and security of most of our customers,” the store said, adding that it had received public complaints about “spitting” and “quarrels and fights”.

“It is having a negative implication for our canteen’s operation. From today, the restaurant will only be for people who purchase their food first.”

The news has attracted attention from netizens on Chinese social media, with many in support of the elderly.

The move was also criticized by some elderly patrons, who spoke to local media outlets.

Presidential Debate: 32.7% of Pro-Trump Tweets Posted by Bots

According to a recent research, more than four times as many tweets were made by automated accounts in favor of Donald Trump around the first presidential debate as by those backing rival Hillary Clinton.

The study found Donald Trump would have enjoyed more support on Twitter even if the accounts – known as bots – had not been active.

However, the research highlights that the software has the capacity to “manipulate public opinion” and “muddy political issues”.

The report has yet to be peer-reviewed.

Photo Getty Images
Photo Getty Images

One critic noted that it was impossible to be completely sure which accounts were real and which were “web robots”.

The research was led by Prof. Philip Howard, from the University of Oxford, and is part of a wider project exploring “computational propaganda”.

The investigation covered tweets posted on September 26, the day of the debate, plus the three days afterwards, and relied on popular hashtags linked to the event.

First, the researchers identified accounts that exclusively posted messages containing hashtags associated with one candidate but not the other.

These accounted for about 1.8 million pro-Trump tweets and 613,000 pro-Clinton posts.

The researchers then analyzed which of these had been posted by bots. They identified an account as such if it had tweeted at least 50 times a day across the period, meaning a minimum of 200 tweets over the four days.

The results suggested that 32.7% of such pro-Trump tweets had been posted by bots and 22.3% of such pro-Clinton ones.

In total, that represented a total of 576,178 tweets benefiting Donald Trump and 136,639 in support of Hillary Clinton.

Prof. Philip Howard said: “On the balance of probabilities, if you pulled out a heavily automated account the odds are four to one that you’ll find it’s a bot tweeting in favor of Trump.”

There is no suggestion, however, that bots were generated by either of the official Presidential campaign groups.

“We are not looking at the source, who is working on the bots or to what end, merely the metrics of the data,” said Prof. Philip Howard.

Looking wider – to accounts that tweeted neutral hashtags or a mix of different kinds – the study suggested that 23% of all the tweets were driven by bots.

One machine learning expert cautions that the criteria used to identify the bots might have been too imprecise to have sifted out all the human-based activity.

So, is it possible that Donald Trump supporters might simply have been more enthusiastic than Hillary Clinton’s and have done a better job at leveraging social media to their advantage?

Prof. Philip Howard said that it is unlikely to be the only explanation.

“Most of the heavy automation and tweets happened overnight and shared similar hashtags and information,” he says.

“They show behavior that is not human and often don’t have comments [about other issues apart from] the particular topic in question.”

Prof. Philip Howard adds that the 50-tweets-a-day rule was borne out by analysis of posts made during a past Venezuelan election and the Brexit vote.

In both cases, his team double-checked a sample of accounts that had been flagged as bots and confirmed they displayed other characteristics of being inhuman.

Netflix Shares Jump 20% on Record Number of Subscribers

0

Netflix’s shares have soared after the video streaming company posted a record number of subscribers that beat estimates.

The company added 3.2 million international customers in the last three months, far more than the 2 million analysts had predicted.Netflix at CES 2016

In the US, the number rose 21% to 370,000 as hit shows such as Stranger Things and Narcos won over more subscribers.

The move helped Netflix’s quarterly revenues rise 31% to $2.29 billion, sparking a 20% jump in the company’s share price.

In Q3 of 2016, Netflix had about 83.3 million subscribers.

Netflix said on October 17 that it plans to license content to existing online service providers in China rather than operate its own service in China in the near term.

The video streaming service has been expanding in international markets to counter slowing growth in the US. It has a strong presence in more than 130 markets worldwide, except China.

Concern that Netflix’s growth was slowing had overshadowed the company. Its shares had fallen about 13% this year.

In after-hours trading on Wall Street Netflix’s shares jumped 20% to about $119.

Melania Trump Insists Donald Trump’s Accusers Are Lying

Donald Trump’s wife, Melania, has insisted that her husband is a “gentleman” and that the women who allege that he assaulted them are lying.

Melania Trump also said that inappropriate remarks her husband made about women that were caught on videotape were unacceptable but did not represent the man she knows.

Donald Trump was guilty of “boy talk” but was “egged on” by TV host Billy Bush, she added.

The 2005 tape prompted dozens of Republicans to drop their support for Donald Trump.

In the video, Donald Trump tells Billy Bush, who was then host of NBC’s Access Hollywood, that he can force himself on women because he is a star.

Several women have since come forward and accused the Republican nominee of assault, which he denies.

“I know he respects women but he is defending himself because they are lies,” Donald Trump said in an interview with CNN.

Melania Trump said: “I believe my husband.

“My husband is kind and he is a gentleman and he would never do that.”

The former model claimed the scandal had been “organized and put together to hurt his candidacy” by Hillary Clinton’s campaign team and the media.

“With the details [the media] have got, did they ever check the backgrounds of these women? They didn’t have any facts,” Melania Trump added.

Speaking for the first since the scandal began Melania Trump defended her husband’s conduct with women, saying he had never behaved inappropriately over the years.

Women commonly approached her husband in front of her to give him their phone numbers and behave inappropriately, she said.

Reflecting on the 2005 Access Hollywood videotape leaked to the media 10 days ago, Melania Trump said: “I said to my husband that, you know, the language was inappropriate. It’s not acceptable.

“And I was surprised, because that is not the man that I know.”

After the taped comments became public, Melania Trump issued a statement saying she found the words he spoke to be offensive but she accepted his apology.

Now Melania Trump believes Billy Bush, who was fired by NBC over the tape, was the main culprit.

Donald Trump, his wife said, “was led on – like, egged on – from the host to say dirty and bad stuff”.

Melania Trump also justified her husband’s tactic of appearing with the women who have accused former President Bill Clinton of assault.

With three weeks to go before Americans cast their vote, polls show Donald Trump with considerable ground to make up on Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in key battleground states.

The Benefits of an Alkaline Lifestyle

0

Leading the Way

The Alkaline diet is here to stay; it has helped many people with conditions that have not been improved with traditional medication. What we do know is that the Alkaline diet in its humblest form was conceived in the early 1900s, where it gained a lot of attention and merit due to the findings relating primarily to the causes of cancer.

Ever since the birth of the industrial age, man has managed to produce well over 100,000 artificial chemicals, most of which release toxins into the atmosphere during manufacture, or directly into our bodies by mass produced products.

the-benefits-of-alkaline-lifestyle-plates-water-glasses

Free Radicals

With the constant exposure to manmade toxins, our bodies are producing more free radicals than they would naturally, so healthy cells are being compromised by free radical cells, where they steal electrons to be able to survive. Eventually, this leads to a rapid decent of healthy cells which force the body into a state of acidosis. It is this state where cancer cells ferment sugars to create oxygen, enabling them to survive and reproduce.

Disease Prevention

Recent Clinical trials state if you follow the Alkaline diet’s 20% acidic and 80% alkaline food rule, your PH level should return to a neutral state of between 7.35 – 7.45, while at the same time, reducing the effects of inflammation and reversing the effects of free radical damage.

Clinical results have also shown that long-term use of the Alkaline diet, can reduce or reverse the effects of severe allergies, eczema, and diabetes, to the extent that medication is dramatically reduced or stopped altogether. Tests have also proven that as the blood is fully oxygenated and able to flow freely around the body and brain, this can lead to improved results of people with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s. A reduced chance of heart disease can also be achieved.

Weight Loss

As the diet consists of mainly fruits and vegetables, your body will now be receiving plenty of nutrients, vitamins, high fiber additions and antioxidants. The toxins will be flushed from your system, and the body will become detoxified without any risk of toxic build up re-occurring. There will now be an increase in the body’s metabolic rate, allowing it to convert the food into energy and burn excess fat more easily.

Feeling Great

As the number of toxins has been greatly reduced, you should find yourself no longer feeling bloated or lethargic. The body will now be benefiting from an increased intake of Vitamin-C and the body’s ability to produce its own natural collagen will have increased, as well. The condition of your skin will greatly improve, now becoming firmer with wrinkles and dryness being reduced. Additionally, you should find that concentration levels have increased and your mood will have overall improvement.

By following this diet for the long term, there have been no results of any adverse effects. Essentially, not only does it receive constant positive feedback from its followers, it also still gains a lot of attention to the benefits it can offer to people in a critical condition or disease state. Any additional weight loss seen is also an added bonus, of course!

Adolf Hitler’s Birthplace House to Be Demolish

Austria plans to demolish the house where Adolf Hitler was born to prevent it becoming a pilgrimage site for neo-Nazis, the Interior Ministry announced on October 17.

The future of the former guesthouse of the building in Braunau am Inn, a town on the border with Germany where Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, has been widely debated, with opinion torn between razing it or changing its use.

The argument was further complicated after its owner refused to sell.

Austria’s Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka said a committee of experts had decided that the house should be demolished, reported Austrian newspaper Die Presse.

A new building put in its place will be used for administrative or for charitable purposes, the paper added.

Wolfgang Sobotka told Die Presse: “The Hitler house will be torn down. The foundations can remain but a new building will be erected. It will be used by either a charity or the local authorities.”

The house has been the subject of years of legal wrangling between the owner Gerlinde Pommer and the government, which has been renting it since 1972 to prevent any misuse.

The government currently pays about €4,800 ($5,300) a month for the building.

Gerlinde Pommer who is now retired, has repeatedly refused to sell the three-storey building to the government.

For the last five years the house has also stood empty, as Gerlinde Pommer refused to allow renovation work to be done.

The building had previously been used as a center for people with disabilities.

An interior ministry spokesman told AFP a legal amendment proposed earlier this year which would allow them to seize the property was still “under way”, meaning parliament has yet to approve the demolition.

However, the decision will likely upset some in the community, some who wanted it to become a refugee centre, others a museum dedicated to Austria’s liberation from Nazi rule.

A number of cultural organizations previously opposed the building’s demolition because it is part of the historic city center and therefore under heritage protection.

Adolf Hitler was born in a rented room on the top floor of the building.

During Nazi rule, the house was transformed into a shrine to Adolf Hitler as the town drew in a wave of tourists.

As the Nazis began to lose control in 1944, it was shut up.

Yet despite the efforts of successive governments to stop it drawing neo-Nazis sympathizers to Braunau am Inn, locals say it still does.

King Kigeli V Dead: Rwanda’s Last Monarch Dies in US Aged 80

King Kigeli V, the last monarch of Rwanda, has died in the United States at the age of 80.

Born Jean-Baptiste Ndahindurwa, he came to power in 1959 but was only king of Rwanda until 1961, when the monarchy was abolished and he was forced into exile.

The former monarch eventually settled in the US where he set up a charity helping Rwandan refugees and orphans.

King Kigeli V was the last in a line of monarchs from the minority Tutsi ethnic group, which had dominated Rwandan for many years, but the Belgian former colonial power favored the majority Hutus and backed a coup.

Rwanda was proclaimed a republic in 1961, and a Hutu, Dominique Mbonyumutwa, was made president.

Tens of thousands of Tutsis were forced into exile including King Kigeli, who lived the rest of his life outside Rwanda.

For three decades Rwanda endured ethnic violence, culminating in the 1994 mass slaughter, in which some 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed by Hutu extremists.

King Kigeli V held onto the hope that he could return to the throne in Rwanda.

A small opposition party argued that the king might be a force of unity in a country still torn by the legacy of the genocide.

As recently as May, the Democratic Green Party had requested the government to allow him to return with the benefits of a head of state, reports AFP news agency.

Without every returning to Rwanda, King Kigeli V died on October 16, a statement on his website announced.

“He was a devout and dedicated believer and the last anointed African Roman Catholic king to reign over a full country,” it said.

The statement added that “the heir to the Royal throne of Rwanda” will be “announced in good order”.

Dakota Access Pipeline: Amy Goodman Faces Riot Charge after Filming Protest

0

Democracy Now! reporter Amy Goodman is facing charges of participating in a “riot” after filming Native American-led protests over the Dakota Access oil pipeline project.

The journalist said she would surrender to authorities on October 17 in response to the charge.

District Judge John Grinsteiner will decide whether there is sufficient evidence to support the riot charge.

Amy Goodman filmed the crackdown on protesters by authorities last month.amy-goodman-dakota-access-pipeline

“I wasn’t trespassing, I wasn’t engaging in a riot, I was doing my job as a journalist by covering a violent attack on Native American protesters,” she said.

The charge relates to Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now! coverage of the protests against the Dakota Access pipeline on September 3.

Earlier this month actress Shailene Woodley was arrested at a construction site for broadcasting the North Dakota protests on Facebook.

The video by the Divergent star was viewed more than 2.4 million times on social media within hours of being posted.

The Dakota Access oil pipeline project, which will cross four states, has drawn huge protests.

Native Americans have halted its construction in North Dakota, saying it will desecrate sacred land and damage the environment.

Phil Collins Comes Out of Retirement with European Tour

Phil Collins has decided to come out of retirement following a 10-year hiatus with an European tour.

The rock veteran, whose hits include In The Air Tonight and Against All Odds, will play a five-night residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall in June 2017.

That will be followed by similar five-night stints in Paris and Cologne.

Phil Collins, now 65, announced his retirement in 2011, after nerve damage left him unable to play the drums.

Although the musician has recovered some dexterity, he said he was unlikely to sit behind the kit on the new tour.

He said his 15-year-old son, Nicholas, would fill in for his dad on tour.

“Nicholas is in the learning stage, and he’s already a fantastic drummer,” Phil Collins said.

The star made a tentative return to the stage at a one-off show for his Little Dreams Foundation in 2015, at which Nicholas played drums “and all the band were very impressed”.

Phil Collins also sang two of his hits at the opening of the US Open tennis in New York in August.

With characteristic understatement, Phil Collins’ comeback tour will be called Not Dead Yet Live.

Phil Collins first came to prominence as the drummer and then frontman of Genesis.

He made his solo debut with his 1981 album Face Value, which included the hit single In the Air Tonight. His other hits include Easy Lover, You Can’t Hurry Love, One More Night and Another Day In Paradise.

Phil Collins played down his image as a 1980s soft-rock balladeer.

“People tend to think of me as shiny BMW music,” he said at a press conference announcing the tour.

“That’s a misconception.”

The Royal Albert Hall dates will take place on June 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9.

The German dates start in Cologne on June 11 and 12; with the Paris dates the following week.

Tickets go on sale on October 21.

Phil Collins’s memoir Not Dead Yet: The Autobiography will be published later this week.

21 Chibok Girls Reunited with Families after 30 Months of Captivity

0

Twenty-one Nigerian schoolgirls abducted by the Islamist group Boko Haram in Chibok in April 2014 have been reunited with their families after 30 months in captivity.

In an emotional ceremony in the capital Abuja, one of the girls said they had survived for 40 days without food and narrowly escaped death at least once.

It is unclear how the release was negotiated, but a Nigerian official says talks are under way to free some more girls.

Of the 276 students kidnapped in April 2014, 197 are still missing.Chibok girls Nigeria

One of the girls freed said during a Christian ceremony in Abuja: “I was… [in] the woods when the plane dropped a bomb near me but I wasn’t hurt.

“We had no food for one month and 10 days but we did not die. We thank God.”

Many of the kidnapped girls were Christian but had been forcibly converted to Islam during captivity.

Another girl said: “We never imagined that we would see this day but, with the help of God, we were able to come out of enslavement.”

Excited relatives were waiting to be reunited with the girls, who were released on October 13.

One parent said: “We thank God. I never thought I was going to see my daughter again but here she is… Those who are still out there – may God bring them back to be reunited with their parents.”

Nigerian authorities have denied reports that captured Boko Haram fighters were swapped for the girls.

According to the AP, a “handsome ransom”, in the millions of dollars, was paid by the Swiss government on behalf of the Nigerian government.

Nigeria’s Information Minister Lai Mohammed said October 13 release was “the first step” for the liberation of all the remaining girls.

“Already we are on phase two and we are already in discussions,” he told journalists on October 16.

“But of course you know these are very delicate negotiations, there are some promises we made also about the confidentiality of the entire exercise and we intend to keep them.”

Some of the kidnapped girls managed to escape within hours of their kidnapping, mostly by jumping off trucks and running into nearby bushes.

In total, 219 girls were captured and taken away. But it appears that some of the girls may have died in captivity.

Reports say that, following more than two years in captivity and after being married off to Boko Haram fighters, some of the girls do not want to go home.

Donald Trump: “Election Rigged by Dishonest Media and at Many Polling Places”

Donald Trump has said the election is “absolutely rigged” by the “dishonest media” and “at many polling places”.

The Republican nominee’s comments appear to contradict his running mate Mike Pence, who told NBC earlier Donald Trump would “absolutely” accept the election result, despite media “bias”.

Donald Trump’s adviser Rudy Giuliani has also accused Democrats of “cheating”.

Polls suggest Donald Trump is losing ground in some of the key battleground states.

Meanwhile Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine has blasted Donald Trump’s election-rigging claims as “scare tactics”.

Donald Trump has questioned the legitimacy of the election process in a series of tweets, the latest of which said: “The election is absolutely being rigged by the dishonest and distorted media pushing Crooked Hillary – but also at many polling places – SAD.”

Earlier, Donald Trump accused the press of inaccurate reporting: “Election is being rigged by the media, in a coordinated effort with the Clinton campaign, by putting stories that never happened into news!”Donald Trump RNC conspiracy

However, speaking on NBC’s Meet The Press, Mike Pence said the American people were “tired of the obvious bias in the national media” which was “where the sense of a rigged election goes”, but said: “We will absolutely accept the results of the election.”

“Elections always get pretty rough,” he added, but said the US has a tradition of “the peaceful transfer of power”.

Meanwhile Rudy Giuliani told CNN’s State of the Union that he’d have to be a “moron” to think that some elections, such as those in Philadelphia and Chicago, were going to be fair.

“I’ve found very few situations where Republicans cheat… they don’t control the inner cities the way Democrats do. Maybe if Republicans controlled the inner cities, they’d do as much cheating as Democrats,” he said.

“I’m sorry. Dead people generally vote for Democrats rather than Republicans,” he added.

Tim Kaine told ABC’s This Week Donald Trump was “swinging at every phantom of his own imagination” because “he knows he’s losing”.

“He’s blaming the media. He’s blaming the GOP. He’s saying that America can’t run a fair election.

“He’s making weird claims that, no, I couldn’t have assaulted this person, she’s not attractive enough to assault. How bizarre is that?… And this is what bullies do.”

Multiple women have come forward to accuse Donald Trump of groping or kissing them this week, following the emergence of a 2005 video tape in which he made inappropriate remarks about women.

Donald Trump has repeatedly denied the claims, calling the women “horrible liars” and accusing the media of being an agent of the “Clinton machine”.

Tim Kaine denied that the Clinton campaign had anything to do with the women making accusations against Donald Trump.

On October 15, House speaker Republican Paul Ryan criticized Donald Trump for questioning the validity of the electoral process.

“Our democracy relies on confidence in election results, and the speaker is fully confident the states will carry out this election with integrity,” his spokesperson AshLee Strong said.

It’s not the first time Donald Trump has directly contradicted his running mate during the campaign, with them clashing over how to solve the war in Syria.

In the vice presidential debate, Mike Pence said the Trump administration would impose a safe zone in Syria, “stand up” to Russian aggression and go after Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

But in the second presidential debate, Donald Trump claimed that although he didn’t “like Assad”, the Syrian president was “killing ISIL [ISIS]”.

Jia Jia: World’s Oldest Giant Panda in Captivity Dies at 38

Jia Jia, a giant panda believed to have been the oldest ever kept in captivity, has died at the age of 38, Hong Kong officials say.

Jia Jia’s age in human terms was more than 100 years.

Her death was announced by the Hong Kong theme park where she lived.

Jia Jia’s condition had worsened rapidly in recent weeks and she had lost her appetite, the park said.

The giant panda was put down by vets at Ocean Park, her home since 1999.

“She was a member of our family and she will be deeply missed… she has served as an important animal ambassador for her species,” the park said in a statement.

According to the park, in the last two weeks, Jia Jia’s daily food intake had dropped from over 10kg to less than 3kg per day, and she had lost weight.

“Over the past few days, she has been spending less time awake and showing no interest in food or fluids.

“Her condition became worse this morning. Jia Jia was not able to walk about without difficulties and spent the day laying down.”

Vets took the decision to put the giant panda down to prevent suffering, the park said.

The Hong Kong park held a high-profile celebration for Jia Jia’s 37th birthday at her enclosure in July 2015.

Born in 1978 in the wild in Sichuan, China, Jia Jia was given to Hong Kong in 1999 to mark the semi-autonomous city’s handover by Britain two years earlier.

Pandas normally live to around 20 years of age in the wild, and 25 in captivity.

Tyson Gay’s 15-year-old daughter, Trinity, has been killed in a shooting in Lexington, Kentucky, police say.

Lexington police said Trinity Gay was hit in the neck during an exchange of fire between two vehicles in a restaurant car park.

The girl was taken to hospital where she later died, local media reported.

The former world champion sprinter confirmed his daughter’s death to local TV station Lex 18.

“She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened,” Lex18 quoted Tyson Gay as saying.

Tyson Gay is the US 100m record holder and is the joint second-fastest 100m runner of all time, behind Usain Bolt.

The US track and field athletics team tweeted its condolences, sending “thoughts and prayers” to Tyson Gay and his loved ones “as they mourn the tragic & senseless loss of his daughter, Trinity”.

Trinity Gay was also an athlete and competed for Lafayette High School, where she was studying.

“Our hearts are broken this morning over the loss of Trinity to this tragic and senseless act of violence,” Fayette County School Superintendent Manny Caulk told the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper.

“A life of such potential cut so tragically short,” tweeted Julian Tackett, commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletics Association.

Other athletes also tweeted their condolences.

Police have launched a murder investigation into the shooting, which happened at about 04:00 local time outside the Cook Out restaurant in the city, Lexington police said in a statement.

Witnesses reported an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles, a gray Dodge Charger and a dark-colored sports car with tinted windows.

Trinity Gay – who is not thought to have been in any of the vehicles – was taken to University of Kentucky hospital in a private car.

Officers located the Dodge Charger and detained two people for questioning but were still searching for the other vehicle, police said.

Thailand: Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s Coronation Held off for a Year

0

According to Thai government officials, Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn wants his coronation held off for at least a year.

Following King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s death on October 13, the crown prince wants more time to mourn his father.

Former PM Prem Tinsulanonda is standing in as regent.

Current PM Prayuth Chan-ocha sought to reassure Thais about the succession in a TV address on October 15, saying they should not worry.

This issue was discussed when Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn summoned the regent and Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha for an audience, according to Gen. Prayuth.

Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, 64, “asked the people not to be confused or worry about the country’s administration or even about the succession”, Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha said in his TV statement.

“He said at this time everyone is sad, he is still sad, so every side should wait until we pass this sad time.”

Questions about the crown prince’s capabilities have been raised in the past, although the strict lese-majeste laws prevents any open discussion of these.

Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha took power in a military coup in 2014 which overthrew the civilian government. He has promised elections in 2017.

The monarchy is seen as a unifying force in Thailand at times of political upheaval and King Bhumibol, who died aged 88, was a figure revered by many Thais.

The military government has made clear that Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn will be the new king, but it just isn’t clear when this will happen.

Thailand is beginning a year of official mourning, and entertainment such as TV shows and sports events has been canceled or toned down.

Many Thais are wearing black and mourners have continued to converge on the Grand Palace in central Bangkok to pay their respects to King Bhumibol by signing a book of condolences.

It is unclear when the king’s cremation will take place but it is thought the ceremony could be months away.

List of Women Accusing Donald Trump of Inappropriate Contact

According to latest polls, Donald Trump is losing ground in some of the key battleground states following the publication of a recording in which he made inappropriate remarks about women, which sparked a string of assault claims.

His denial, though, has opened the floodgates for women who are now accusing him of harassment spanning from groping on planes to unwanted advances in the Trump Tower.

Summer Zervos was a contestant on The Apprentice in 2006, and said Donald Trump forced himself on her at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 2007.

Jessica Leeds told the New York Times that when she was 38, Donald Trump touched her “like an octopus” in the first-class cabin of a flight in the 1980s.

Temple Taggart, former Miss Utah, told NBC News Donald Trump kissed her on the lips in 1997, when she was 21.

Donald Trump has denied attacking any of the women who have made allegations against him, saying the claims are part of a plot to damage his campaign.
