Tyler, The Creator Banned from UK over Lyrics

Rapper Tyler, The Creator claims he has been banned from entering the UK.

Tyler, The Creator says he is not allowed to enter the UK for “three to five years” because of lyrics he wrote in 2009.

The rapper tweeted: “That is why the shows were cancelled.”

Tyler, The Creator, 24, had been due to play the Reading and Leeds festivals this weekend.

He previously said he had been forced to cancel four gigs because of unspecified “circumstances”.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values.

“The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion is justified on public policy grounds.”

Tyler, The Creator has always attracted controversy.

Protesters regularly try to stop his gigs because they say some of his lyrics are homophobic and offensive.

The rapper’s manager Christian Clancy said: “Tyler has been banned from entering the UK for somewhere between three to five years per a letter from the secretary of state for the home department of the United Kingdom.

“The letter specifically cites lyrics he wrote six to seven years ago for his albums Bastard and Goblin – the type of lyrics he hasn’t written since…”

Tyler, The Creator has had other problems touring in 2015.

In July he tweeted to say that a campaign group in Australia had successfully stopped him from performing.

However, his own company denied that he had been banned from entering the country and said the visa application was still open.

Tropical Storm Erika Hits Dominica Killing at Least 20

Tropical Storm Erika hit the island of Dominica, in the eastern Caribbean, killing at least 20 people.

The storm caused floods and mudslides that have set the country back 20 years, Dominica’s PM Roosevelt Skerrit said.

Haiti and the Dominican Republic are now expecting 53mph winds.

A state of emergency has been declared in Florida, where the storm is expected on August 30.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit said in a televised address on August 28 that hundreds of homes, bridges and roads had been destroyed.

He said: “It is with heavy heart that I address you, you can well imagine the hell that it has been for me since I heard of the passing of Tropical Storm Erika and the damage it has done to our dear people and beloved country. But we all have to pull ourselves together.

“The extent of the devastation is monumental. We have, in essence, to rebuild Dominica.”

Erika dumped 15in of rain.

At least 31 people on the island of 72,000 people have been reported missing, according to officials with the Barbados-based Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency.

Other Caribbean nations have issued tropical storm warnings.

In Puerto Rico, Erika knocked out power to more than 200,000 people and caused more than $16 million of damage to crops including plantain, bananas and coffee, AP reported.

The US National Hurricane Centre said the system was expected to move north across the island of Hispaniola – shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic – where the high mountains would weaken it to a tropical depression on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency as a precaution with officials urging people to prepare by stockpiling food and water and fuelling their vehicles.

Separately, in the Pacific Ocean, Hurricane Ignacio strengthened into a hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 90mph, centered south-east of Hilo in Hawaii, and moving north-west.

Brazil Enters Recession After Two Consecutive Quarters of Economic Contraction

Brazil’s economy has entered recession after official figures showed it contracted by 1.9% between in Q2 2015 compared with the previous three months.

Analysts had expected a contraction, but the number was worse than expected.

Q1 2015 output was also revised down to show a 0.7%, rather than a 0.2%, contraction.

Brazil, the seventh-largest economy in the world, has seen economic growth fall sharply in recent times.Brazil economy falls into recession 2015

This is due in part to low commodity prices and sluggish global growth.

High interest rates – currently 14.25% – have also affected consumer spending, an important element of Brazil’s economy, while this year, the government has introduced stringent austerity measures designed to tackle high levels of debt.

Government spending, including on unemployment benefits, has fallen sharply, while taxes have risen.

In Q2 2015, household spending fell by 2.1% compared with the previous three months. The biggest falls came in the industrial sector, where construction output fell 8.4%

Transport, storage, postal services, financial services and insurance all saw falls in output.

Compared with a year earlier, Brazil’s economy as a whole shrank by 2.6%.

The technical definition of a recession is two consecutive quarters of economic contraction.

WDBJ Shooting: Alison Parker and Adam Ward Died After Being Shot in the Head

0

WDBJ7 journalists, Alison Parker and Adam Ward, who were killed by former colleague Vester Flanagan while broadcasting in Virginia, were shot in the head, officials have said.

Both of their causes of death are listed as homicides by the US state’s medical examiner’s office.

Alison Parker, 24, suffered gunshot wounds to the head and chest while Adam Ward, 27, died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

It is not yet clear how many times Alison Parker and Adam Ward were shot during the attack on August 26.

Parker and Ward both worked for WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia, and were shot while broadcasting by a former employee of their station.

Vester Flanagan, 41, later died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. He had claimed staff had mistreated him during his time there.Virginia TV shooting Alison Parker and Adam Ward

During Friday morning’s broadcast on WDBJ, anchor Kim McBroom said it was “another tough morning for us, but we’re soldiering on”.

Two days after the horrifying events, Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta where Alison Parker and Adam Ward were killed during an on-air interview is re-opening.

“It’s very bittersweet, but we are glad to be back,” said one store manager, Lesley Kocsis.

She saw the shooting on TV before she came into work and told employees not to bother coming in.

Another shop at the plaza, CJ’s Coffee and Sandwich Shop, re-opened on Friday morning as well. Owner Chris Genna said it was an “emotional” day.

Vicki Gardner, who was being interviewed at the time of the attack and was shot in the back after Vester Flanagan missed her twice, got up and walked to the ambulance after being hit, said her husband Tim Gardner, speaking to ABC News.

Sh is now in a “good condition” at a hospital.

Tim Gardner said: “But the surgeon told me that a couple of centimeters and she wouldn’t be walking, and a couple of centimeters and she wouldn’t be alive.”

Austria Migrant Truck: Four People Arrested by Hungarian Police

Four people have been arrested by Hungarian police over the discovery of the bodies of 71 migrants, thought to be Syrian, in an abandoned truck in Austria.

Three of those arrested are Bulgarian and one is Afghan.

The bodies of 59 men, 8 women and four children were discovered on August 27 in an abandoned truck on an Austrian highway near the Hungarian border.

They are thought to have been dead for about two days.

Officials said the victims probably died after suffocating in the vehicle.

The truck was towed to a customs building with refrigeration facilities where forensic teams worked through the night to examine the bodies.

The migrants are thought to have been dead when the vehicle crossed into Austria from Hungary. Among the victims was a girl aged between one and two years old.Austria migrant truck arrests

The local Austrian police chief said a travel document found on the vehicle suggested that the group were Syrian migrants.

“Our preliminary assumption is of course that they were refugees, possibly a group of Syrian refugees,” Hans Peter Doskozil, Burgenland province police chief, told reporters.

The truck had the branding of a Slovakian poultry company, Hyza, on it but the firm said it no longer owned the vehicle.

Hans Peter Doskozil said it was unusual for people smugglers to use a refrigerated vehicle.

“In our preliminary investigation we found that there was no ventilation possible through the sides of the truck,” he said, adding that the victims had probably suffocated.

Hungarian police said in a statement that they had “conducted house searches… and questioned almost 20 people as witnesses”.

Hans Peter Doskozil said one of the Bulgarians arrested is assumed to be the truck’s owner, while it is “highly likely” the other two are “the ones who drove the vehicle”.

He said there was “an indication we are talking about a Bulgarian-Hungarian human trafficking operation”.

“If you look at the organization of people traffickers, these are the lowest two levels of a criminal organization,” Hans Peter Doskozil added.

No details have been given about the Afghan detainee.

The truck, which has Hungarian number plates, is understood to have left Budapest on Wednesday morning, August 26.

It is believed to have been parked in the lay-by between Neusiedl and Parndorf for at least 24 hours before police discovered the bodies.

Tens of thousands of migrants from conflict-hit states in the Middle East and Africa have been trying to make their way to Europe in recent months.

A record number of 107,500 migrants crossed the EU’s borders last month.

Some of them pay large sums of money to people smugglers to get them through borders illegally.

“We are actively adjusting to the attack on our business and members’ privacy by criminals. We will continue to provide access to our unique platforms for our worldwide members,” the company said.

“We are actively co-operating with international law enforcement in an effort to bring those responsible for the theft of proprietary member and business information to justice.”

Avid Life Media, which owns the site, has offered a reward of C$500,000 for details about the Ashley Madison hackers.

Donald Trump Mocks Asians at Iowa Rally

0

Donald Trump did it again! Now is about Asian people.

The Republican presidential front-runner impersonated Asian negotiators using broken English during a campaign speech in Iowa on August 25.

He did it on the same day he ripped fellow 2016 candidate Jeb Bush for referring to Asian “anchor babies.”

Donald Trump told supporters in Dubuque, Iowa: “Negotiating with Japan, negotiating with China, when these people walk into the room, they don’t say, <<Oh hello, how’s the weather, so beautiful outside, isn’t it lovely? How are the Yankees doing? Oh they are doing wonderful, great>>.Donald Trump mocks Asians

“They say, <<We want deal>>. “

Donald Trump went on to pan Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton, asking the crowd which one of the three White House candidates they would want negotiating a deal.

The comments come after he panned Jeb Bush on Twitter for a “clumsy move” on immigration.

Jeb Bush, who previously defended his use of the term “anchor babies” after criticism, said on August 24 that his use of the phrase applied more to illegal businesses that aim to woo pregnant Chinese immigrants into the US so that their children could be born as American citizens, and not as much to Hispanic immigrants.

Mei Xiang’s Panda Cub Dies Days After Birth

0

One of Mei Xiang’s panda cubs recently born at the National Zoo in Washington, DC has died on August 26, the zoo confirmed.

The giant panda cub was incubated by zookeepers because Mei Xiang had trouble nursing both cubs.

Staff swapped the small cub in for feeding with her mother on August 25 and saw the cub was struggling on August 26.

“When we realized the cub wasn’t going to make it, it was devastating,” zoo staff said.

The zoo said it was “prepared” to rear twin cubs and did everything it could to keep both of them alive.

Antibiotics and other liquids could not save the cub, who was having respiratory issues.Mei Xiang panda cub August 2015

One zoo official said there had been some “misunderstanding” that Mei Xiang preferred one cub over another.

“We were optimistic, we think Mei Xiang was doing everything right, but we don’t know,” said Dr Donald Neiffer, chief veterinarian at the National Zoo.

“She was trying to balance and juggle two kids at the same time. There were days when she was a little less interested in taking a baby, but that occurred for both babies.”

No official cause of death has been named, but the zoo is running tests to figure it out.

The small cub weighed 86 grams when it was born, while the larger cub weighed 138 grams.

The 17-year-old Mei Xiang weighs 238 lbs (108kg).

Mei Xiang’s first cub, Tai Shan, was born in 2005 and returned to China in 2010. Her second cub, Bao Bao, just celebrated her second birthday.

Giant pandas are one of the most endangered species in the world and are notoriously hard to breed in captivity.

The National Zoo is one of only four zoos in the US to have pandas, which are on loan from China.

Austria Migrant Truck Held More than 70 Bodies

The bodies of more than 70 people, thought to be migrants, have been found in an abandoned truck found on an Austrian highway on August 27, Austrian authorities say.

Authorities originally estimated that between 20 to 50 people died in the vehicle, found near the Hungarian border.

Police sent to investigate the dumped truck on the A4 road towards Vienna discovered the decomposing bodies.

The local police chief said it appeared those in the truck had been dead for one-and-a-half to two days.

The victims were probably already dead when the vehicle crossed into Austria from Hungary, authorities said. It is unclear how they died.Austria migrant truck 2015

The vehicle was towed to a customs building with refrigeration facilities in Nickelsdorf where forensic teams worked through the night to examine the bodies.

Austrian police are expected to reveal the exact toll at a news conference at 11:00 on August 28.

The police forces in Austria and Hungary are working together to try and find the driver.

A report in Austrian newspaper Krone said on August 28 that seven people had been arrested in Hungary, but this has not been confirmed.

The truck bears the logo of a Slovakian poultry company, Hyza, which said it no longer owned the vehicle – but the buyers had not removed the branding.

The Hungarian prime minister’s chief of staff, Janos Lazar, said on August 28 that the truck was registered to a Romanian citizen in Kecskemet, a city in central Hungary.

Hans Peter Doskozil, police chief in the Burgenland province where the lorry was found, said it was a refrigerated vehicle – not the typical choice for people smugglers, he added.

The truck, which has Hungarian number plates, is understood to have left Budapest on August 26.

China Stock Market Ends Week Almost 8% Lower

China stock market ended the week almost 8% lower after volatile trading that started on August 24 with shock losses and spread fear to global markets.

On August 28, the mainland’s benchmark Shanghai Composite closed up 4.8% at 3,232 points.

China’s second bourse, the Shenzhen Composite, closed up 5.4% to 1,846 points, but ended the week 9.4% lower.

Other Asian stock markets also continued their rebound, helped by a strong finish for Wall Street.

Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 closed up 3% at 19,136 points, but the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong reversed earlier gains to close down 1%.

The Hang Seng ended the week 3.6% lower – its sixth consecutive weekly fall.

In London, the FTSE 100 also turned negative, after initially rising, to be down slightly at 6,186 points.

In Sydney, the ASX 200 finished 0.6% higher at 5,263 points.

Marking the end of a week of corporate results, the supermarket Woolworths reported a 12.5% drop in full-year profit – its first fall in almost two decades.

However, Woolworths’ shares closed 1.5% higher after the retailer announced a new chief executive in a bid to revive its fortunes.

South Korea’s Kospi index finished 1.6% higher at 1,937 points.

The recovery across Asia took its cue partly from China’s recovery, but also the strong sentiment from the US.

Shares on Wall Street rose overnight and oil prices jumped sharply after revised figures showed the US economy expanded far more than originally thought in the three months to June.

Guatemala Protesters Demand President Otto Perez Molina’s Resignation

Thousands of Guatemalans have demonstrated in Ciudad de Guatemala, demanding the resignation of President Otto Perez Molina over a corruption scandal.

Businesses, including fast-food chains, were shut in support of the protest.

President Otto Perez Molina is facing impeachment proceedings over the affair, which has seen his former deputy Roxana Baldetti jailed and six cabinet ministers quitting in protest.

He has apologized over the scandal but denies involvement. He is due to step down at the end of his term in January.

Guatemalans are due to vote in just over a week’s time to choose his successor.Guatemala protests August 2015

Investigators have alleged that top government officials received a cut from bribes paid by businesses seeking to evade import duties.

The scandal has been dubbed “La Linea”, or “The Line”, after the hotline businesses allegedly rang to clear their imports through customs at cut-price rates.

UN-backed investigators have accused Otto Perez Molina of direct involvement in the customs scandal.

In a televised address to the nation last week, the president dismissed the allegations and insisted that his conscience was clear.

Former VP Roxana Baldetti has been arrested over her alleged involvement in the affair.

Prosecutors say she took a 50% cut from the bribes. She appeared in court on August 26, denying the charges.

On August 27, marchers took to the streets of Guatemala City, waving placards attacking corruption in the political establishment.

A committee has meanwhile been formed to consider lifting the president’s immunity from prosecution.

The committee was created after Guatemala’s Supreme Court gave the go-ahead for prosecutors to request impeachment proceedings.

Major business and religious leaders are supporting calls for President Otto Perez Molina to resign.

Parkinson’s Disease Study: Brain Cells Burn Out Like Overheating Engine

0

According to a Canadian study, brain cells in Parkinson’s disease exhaust themselves and die prematurely, burning out like an “overheating motor”.

Researchers say the findings, published in Current Biology, might help explain why only small parts of the brain are affected in the disease.

Parkinson’s is caused by a loss of nerve cells in certain areas of the brain – but why these cells are vulnerable has been a mystery.

Scientists from the University of Montreal studied the disease in mice cells.Brain cells Parkinsons disease

They found, unlike other similar brain cells, neurons most often involved in Parkinson’s disease were complex and had many more branches.

The cells also had much higher energy requirements, producing more waste products as they met this need.

Researchers suggest it is the accumulation of these waste products that triggers cell death.

Prof, Louis-Eric Trudeau said: “Like a motor constantly running at high speed, these neurons need to produce an incredible amount of energy to function.

“They appear to exhaust themselves and die prematurely.”

Researchers hope this finding may help create better experimental models of Parkinson’s and identify new treatments.

They suggest, for example, that medication could one day be developed to help reduce the energy requirement of cells or increase their energy efficiency.

Venezuela and Colombia Recall Ambassadors amid Border Crisis

Venezuela and Colombia have recalled their envoys following days of growing tension between the neighboring South American nations.

More than 1,000 Colombians have been deported and about 6,000 have left in fear since Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro closed the border last week.

On August 27, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said it was “unacceptable” and withdrew his ambassador.

The Venezuelan government followed suit later in the day.

Nicolas Maduro closed the border and declared a state of emergency in the western state of Tachira on August 21 after smugglers injured three Venezuelan soldiers and a civilian.

Announcing the recall of his ambassador, Juan Manuel Santos condemned the expulsions.

“I can’t allow Venezuela to treat Colombians and the Colombian government in this way,” he said.

Th president added that he would call for an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers from the Union of South American Nations.

A while later, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez announced that Caracas was recalling its own ambassador to Colombia for consultations.

Smugglers have long operated along the porous border between the countries, purchasing heavily subsidized goods in Venezuela to resell in Colombia.

Talks by the countries’ foreign ministers on August 26 were aimed at normalizing the situation in the key border region of Cucuta.

Hundreds are living in shelters there surrounded by the few possessions they could carry across the border on their backs.

Nicolas Maduro blames much of the violence on the Venezuelan side of the border on Colombian paramilitaries, whom he accuses of crossing the border freely to commit crimes.

In order to fight these gangs he declared a 60-day state of emergency on August 21 which, among other things, allows the authorities to search homes without a warrant.

However, the Colombian president said those who had been deported were “no paramilitaries but poor and humble families who only want to live and work”.

Juan Manuel Santos said some had complained of mistreatment by the Venezuelan security forces. The Venezuelan foreign minister dismissed allegations as “media lies”.

Vassiliki Thanou Becomes Greece’s First Female Prime Minister

Vassiliki Thanou, Greece’s top Supreme Court judge, has been appointed caretaker prime minister ahead of early elections next month.

Greece’s President Prokopis Pavlopoulos named Vassiliki Thanou after efforts to form a coalition failed.

Last week, Alex Tsipras resigned as prime minister to seek a new mandate for office.

Vassiliki Thanou, 65, becomes Greece’s first female prime minister.

Elections are expected to be scheduled for 20 or 27 September.

Vassiliki Thanou’s appointment ends a week of fruitless negotiations as opposition party leaders tried unsuccessfully to form a government.Vassiliki Thanou Becomes Greece's First Female Prime Minister

Alexis Tsipras stepped down as prime minister and called early elections after 25 of his members of parliament quit Syriza over the bailout he agreed with European creditors and formed the left-wing Popular Unity party.

In a statement live on television on August 20, Alexis Tsipras said it was now up to the Greek people to give their verdict on whether to continue with his government’s program.

Alexis Tsipras is expected to win the next election although it is unclear whether he will secure a majority government.

However, he has ruled out a coalition with any of the more centrist opposition parties: centre-right New Democracy, the socialist Pasok party or the small centrist The River (To Potami) party.

Earlier this week an opinion poll for Greece’s Vergina TV suggested support for Alexis Tsipras’s Syriza party had declined to 24%, down from 34% in July.

New Democracy was in second with 22%, while the far-right Golden Dawn ranked third with 6%.

Popular Unity, which split from Syriza, was put on 4.5%.

Panagiotis Lafazanis, who formed Popular Unity, was the last of three party leaders who were given the chance form a government in the past week.

He used the opportunity to air his anti-bailout message before handing back the mandate to the president on Thursday.

Former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis decided not to join Popular Unity despite his opposition to the €86 billion ($96 billion) eurozone bailout agreed by his successor Euclid Tsakalotos.

Does your AC have any of these problems?

0

As summer approaches, many homeowners prepare to turn on their air conditioning systems to keep the heat and humidity at bay. Thoughts of having one’s own personal respite from the heat can be very appealing to most homeowners, but what happens when your AC doesn’t work properly?  When problems keep your air conditioning from working properly it may be necessary to have some AC repair NYC homeowners. For that, it’s advised that you call in a qualified service technician to diagnose and fixe the issue.  What follows here is a discussion of the kinds of common issues that may arise with your air conditioning system. Use this as a guide to help you recognize when you should call in a professional for help.

cleaning air conditioner filter

Neglect of the system

Remember: Your air conditioning unit hasn’t been used all winter.  Like bears, it has been hibernating during the winter months, waiting to yawn and stretch and come alive when the warm weather hits.  Because it has sat idle all winter, your air conditioner may require a little bit of coaxing in order do its job the first time you start it up for the season. To ensure that your system works the way it should right from the get-go each season, it’s always a good idea to ensure you have a routine checkup on it before you turn it on.

Failure of parts

All machines are subject to periodic breakdown from time to time.  They are comprised of many moving parts, and when one or more of those parts isn’t working properly, the functioning of the entire system is compromised. Because there are so many different interconnected parts in an air conditioning system, it’s possible for any of them to break and cause system failure.  The most common culprits are the compressor and the fan. Take a listen to your system. Is it cycling on and off frequently? If so, it probably needs a little attention.

Thermostat issues

Your thermostat is what controls the temperature at which your unit is set. If your unit is running too hot or too cold, there could be a problem with the thermostat. It could be a dead battery or the sensor in need of recalibration. In some cases, it could just be that the unit itself is fault. If you notice that you have to turn up your thermostat to keep your house at the same temperature you always have, or that it seems unable to keep the temperature stable, your thermostat may need some repairs.  Invest in a programmable thermostat if you need to replace your current one.  They allow you to keep your house warmer during the day when you aren’t home and then gradually cool it off before you arrive home for the evening.  Similarly, you can set it to keep the house warmer at night while you sleep and then to cool the house down in the early morning hours before the family gets up. This can save you money and reduce wear and tear on your system.

Europe Migrant Crisis: At Least 20 Bodies Found in Truck on Austria Highway

More than 20 migrants have been found dead in a truck abandoned on an Austrian highway lay-by near the eastern border with Hungary, local authorities say.

The number of dead could be as high as 50, police say. Their bodies had started to decompose.

The truck has been moved to an undisclosed location for detailed examination.

The shocking find comes as a summit focusing on migration takes place in the Austrian capital, Vienna.

Tens of thousands of migrants from conflict-hit states in the Middle East and Africa have been trying to make their way to Europe.

Austria’s Chancellor Werner Faymann said the tragedy showed once again “how necessary it is to save lives by combating criminals and people traffickers”.

The vehicle – a refrigerated truck with Hungarian license plates – was parked off the A4 highway between Parndorf and Neusiedl am See, according to Burgenland police chief Hans Peter Doskozil.

Officers had found at least 20 bodies inside the truck, but there could be 30, 40 or even 50 inside, he told Austrian TV.

The truck was found late on Thursday morning, August 27, but had been there since at least August 26, Peter Doskozil said.

The victims had been dead for some time.

At 15:30 local time the truck was towed away, and was due to be taken to a hall in the local area for further examination, Austrian media report.

Only there would the truck be opened and the recovery of the bodies begin, the authorities said.Europe migrants dead in Austrian truck

The truck bears the logo of a Slovakian poultry company, Hyza, which said in a statement that the vehicle no longer belonged to the firm – but the new owners had not removed the branding.

Hungarian police are working with Austrian police on the investigation, a spokesman for the Hungarian prime minister said.

Hungary had been informed that the driver was Romanian, the spokesman said.

In Vienna, Serbia and Macedonia have told the summit on migration that EU must come up with an action plan to respond to the influx of migrants into Europe.

Austria has complained that the EU has failed to address the problem of people entering via the Western Balkans.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today’s find “reminds us to tackle the issue of migration with European spirit and find solutions”.

A record number of 107,500 migrants crossed the EU’s borders last month and on August 26 police counted more than 3,000 crossing into Serbia.

Meanwhile migrants are continuing to die as they try to reach Europe via the central Mediterranean route. The bodies of at least 51 people were found on August 26 in the hold of a stricken ship off the coast of Libya.

Beijing World Championships 2015: Usain Bolt Beats Justin Gatlin in 200m Final

Usain Bolt has beaten rival Justin Gatlin to win 200m gold and complete the sprint double at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.

The Jamaican was out quicker and opened an unassailable lead over the first 100m before coming away down the straight and jabbing his thumbs at his chest as he crossed the line.

His 19.55 seconds was the fastest in the world this year, his speed and peerless championship class too good for American Justin Gatlin, whose 19.74 was well outside his season’s best.Usain Bolt 15th IAAF World Athletics Championships Beijing 2015

Usain Bolt, 29, who will also compete in the 4x100m relay, said: “It means a lot to me.

“I’m happy to be a 10-time World Championships gold medalist, especially when people have been saying I would lose.

“I had the utmost confidence. As long as my coach is confident, I’m super confident.

“The British people give me a lot of love and I will continue running fast.”

South Africa’s Anaso Jobodwana set a national record of 19.87, with Panama’s Alonso Edwards three thousands of a second behind in fourth.

Justin Gatlin, twice banned for doping, had run more than two tenths of a second faster than any other man in the field this year, and almost half a second quicker than Usain Bolt.

Virginia TV Shooting: Vester Flanagan Ordered to Seek Medical Help

0

Former WDBJ7 reporter Vester Flanagan, who shot dead two ex-colleagues live on air in Virginia, had been ordered to seek medical help by his bosses, memos reveal.

Internal memos from Dan Dennison, then news chief of WDBJ7, show concerns about Vester Flanagan’s “aggressive” behavior towards colleagues.

The memos indicate the station tried to help the journalist before firing him in February 2013.

Vester Flanagan, known by his professional name as Bryce Williams, shot dead WDBJ7 reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward at a shopping centre in Moneta on August 26.

He filmed the attack and posted it on social media. ABC News also said it had received a rambling fax from Vester Flanagan, 41, describing himself as a “human powder keg”.

The White House said the attack showed the need for better gun control.

Colleagues at WDBJ7, in Roanoke, Virginia, held a moment of silence at 06:44 on August 27 – 24 hours on from the exact moment the reporter and cameraman were shot dead.Vester Flanagan mental health

“Joining hands here on the desk,” said anchor Kim McBroom.

“It’s the only way to do it.”

Vester Flanagan was hired by WDBJ7 in March 2012. Within a few weeks, colleagues were complaining of “feeling threatened or uncomfortable” while working with him.

The memos highlight “heated confrontations” with camera operators and producers in front of guests while out covering stories.

By July 2012, Dan Dennison was requiring him to contact the Health Advocate, the employee assistance program, or face being sacked.

“We can no longer afford to have you engage in behaviors that constitute creation of a hostile work environment,” he said.

Dan Dennison said on August 26 Vester Flanagan had complained of racial discrimination but “all these allegations were deemed to be unfounded”.

He said when Vester Flanagan was fired, he had to be escorted from the building by police “because he was not going to leave willingly or under his own free will”.

In the 23-page fax to ABC News apparently sent by Vester Flanagan under his professional name, he complained of suffering discrimination and bullying at work for being gay and black.

He said his anger had been “building steadily” and that he had become a “human powder keg” that was “waiting to go BOOM!!!!”

The writer expressed admiration for the teenagers who killed 13 people at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999 and said the attack in Charleston, South Carolina, in which nine black churchgoers were killed in June this year, was what “sent me over the top”.

On August 26, a representative for Vester Flanagan’s family issued a statement expressing their “deepest condolences to the families of Alison Parker and Adam Ward”.

Alison Parker’s father said his family had lost their “bright, shining light”.

Alison Parker was conducting a live interview with a guest on tourism for the breakfast show, filmed by Adam Ward, when the incident occurred.

Suddenly, shots rang out, and viewers saw the camera fall to the ground. Screams could be heard and the footage captured a brief glimpse of the gunman.

The station cut back to the studio – journalists would later have to continue broadcasting on the deaths of two of their colleagues.

Hours later, the gunman posted footage online of himself opening fire at close range. This was later removed.

He killed himself after a police chase.

The interviewee, Vicki Gardner of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, is in a stable condition in hospital following surgery.

President Barack Obama repeated his call for tougher gun laws after the attack.

“We’re willing to spend trillions of dollars to prevent terrorist activities, but we haven’t been willing so far at least to impose some common sense gun safety measures,” he said.

Get a Pardon and Remove a Felony from your Record

0

Even after you have completed your sentence, if you have a felony on your record, it can still cause problems for you. You will have difficulty renting an apartment, finding a job or even getting a higher education. You might end up paying higher interest rates on credit cards or higher insurance premiums. The good news, many states/countries have procedures put in place to allow you to move forward with your life.

What is a Pardon?

A pardon is basically similar to the Monopoly game’s ‘get out of jail free’ card in that it forgives you of the crime you committed as well as the penalty applied to you. It is a way of getting that crime off yoru record. In many cases, pardons are applied for after an appeal has been denied, or a conviction failed to overturn and there are not any other avenues the person can turn to.

How to Obtain a Pardon

Sealing your Record

  1. Know the difference between an expunged record and a sealed record. A sealed criminal record still exists, but is hidden from the general public. In some cases, a sealed record can be unsealed while an expunged record is erased permanently.
  2. Ensure you allow the right amount of time to elapse since you were convicted. It is required that you wait several years after completing your sentence before trying to have your record sealed. Also, during this timeframe, avoid any further issues with the law.
  3. Be sure to complete all forms. If in Canada, you can check pardonapplications.ca for help. You can obtain forms through your court system or probation office. The correct forms might also be found through legal aid offices. You might have other types of documents that you will need to file with your form like your final order of conviction or a copy of your criminal record.
  4. Mail or file the forms. You will be able to see right on the form who you should send them to for review. In some states, a judge reviews a petition for seal records. In others, you are able to mail them in to the probation office. If filing forms with a clerk of court, there will most likely be filing fees associated with it.
  5. If required, attend your hearing. In many states, a hearing is required before a parole board or judge seals your record. In other states, it’s as easy as having an administrative official handle it. Once the petition is granted, there is usually nothing more for you to do. Your records will be sealed automatically; however, it will take a little while for it to go into effect.

Blood Test Could Predict Breast Cancer Relapse

0

Researchers have found that a blood test may be able to save lives by finding cancers that have started to grow again after treatment.

Scientists at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in London found traces of breast cancer eight months before doctors would normally have noticed.

In the trial, the test found 12 cancers out of the 15 women who relapsed.

Experts said there was still some way to go before there was a test that could be used in hospitals.

Surgery to remove a tumor is one of the core treatments for cancer.Blood test could predict breast cancer relapse

However, a tumor starts from a single cancerous cell. If parts of the tumor have already spread to another part of the body or the surgeon did not remove it all then the cancer can return.

Fifty-five patients who were at high risk of relapse because of the size of the tumor were followed in the study published in Science Translational Medicine.

The scientists analyzed the mutated DNA of the tumor and then continued to search the blood for those mutations.

Fifteen patients relapsed and the blood test gave advanced warning of 12 of them.

The other three patients all had cancers that had spread to the brain where the protective blood-brain barrier could have stopped the fragments of the cancer entering the bloodstream.

The test detected cancerous DNA in one patient who has not relapsed.

None of the women in the study were told that cancerous material had been detected as it would have been unethical to base decisions on such an unproven prototype.

However, the hope is that detecting cancer earlier means treatments including chemotherapy can start sooner and improve the odds of survival.

The analysis of the blood is relatively cheap. However, investigating the DNA of the tumor for mutations in the first place is still expensive.

The price is coming down as the field of cancer medicine moves from treating tumors in whichever part of the body they are discovered, towards drugs that target specific mutations in tumors.
