The US Coast Guard said that more noises have been heard in the search for the missing Titanic sub.
News that noises have been picked up in the hunt for the missing submersible has offered a glimmer of hope that the five men on board are alive.
Capt. Jamie Frederick said they still don’t know what the noises are – but teams are looking in that area.
The search is being expanded – the surface search is now twice the size of the state of Connecticut, and the sub-surface search is 2.5 miles deep.
Today, an HC-130 Hercules aircraft has travelled 879 miles over the search area.
Aircraft from partner agencies are also scheduled to search.
Capt Frederick also told reporters it’s still a search and rescue operation, adding: “We have to remain optimistic and hopeful.”
The crew are thought to have less than 20 hours of oxygen left, based on a previous estimate.
Contact with the sub – which has five people on board – was lost on June 18 as it made a 3,800m descent to the Titanic wreck.
