The Lego Movie was a huge hit in 2014, and it’s no surprise that talks of a sequel surfaced shortly after its release. Warner is planning to push back the direct sequel to The Lego Movie in favor of a spin-off starring one of the first film’s most popular characters: Batman, voiced by Will Arnett.
Chris McKay, the animation supervisor from The Lego Movie, is now said to be directing Lego Batman as well as The Lego Movie 2. Seth Grahame-Smith is set to write the script, while Arnett will again play the slightly obnoxious yet very funny plastic incarnation of the Caped Crusader.
What Warner seems to be planning is a Lego movie for each year after 2015. There’s a Ninjago film scheduled for 2016, while the Batman spin-off will land in 2017. It’s now thought that The Lego Movie 2 will show up in 2018.
