Sooraj Pancholi, boyfriend of late Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, has been arrested in connection with her death.

Sooraj Pancholi is the son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, and is reported to have been Jiah Khan’s boyfriend.

He is suspected of abetting suicide and is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Jiah Khan’s mother found her body at her home in the Indian city of Mumbai a week ago. She had killed herself, a police post-mortem examination found.

Sooraj Pancholi’s arrest was made after allegations of abuse made by the star’s mother, Rabiya Khan, police officials say.

Jiah Khan, who was 25, made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with Amitabh Bachchan in Nishabd. She also acted with Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.

She was found hanging by her mother and buried in Mumbai on Wednesday.

According to Indian media, she had left a five-page letter addressed to Sooraj Pancholi.

Born Nafisa Khan in New York, the actress grew up in London before moving to Mumbai for a career in Bollywood.

She made her debut in Nishabd with Bachchan and starred in the psychological thriller, Ghajini, with Aamir Khan.

Jiah Khan’s last film role was in the 2010 comedy Housefull, in which she played a supporting role.
