Jennifer Reyna was giving commuters the latest details on an earlier accident along a busy highway leading into the city.
As she took her eyes off the video monitors that were displaying live traffic shots of the Houston highway, and turned to tell viewers that all was clear, a second pile-up played out behind her.
A fast-moving car swerved to avoid rear-ending one of the firetrucks that had responded to the earlier incident.
The car’s abrupt sideways move sent it smashing into an SUV.
The SUV flipped onto its side and slid for several feet, debris flying.
It banged into the front left side of the firetruck before finally coming to a stop.
Oblivious to the drama playing out behind her, Jennifer Reyna smiled into the camera and told viewers the road was clear.
Jennifer Reyna was good-natured about the gaffe when she went back on-air a few minutes later for another update.
“It’s very rare that we catch an accident happen live on television,” Jennifer Reyna said.
“I just can’t believe I just missed it on the last one.
“But I took my eyes off for a split second to look back from our monitors and missed this accident that happened when we were clearing it in downtown Houston.”
