Jenny McCarthy slipped herself into a voluminous strawberry costume for a Halloween carnival on Monday night.

Jim Carrey’s ex now makes a living as something of a raconteur via her warm, witty and sometimes shocking books.

The former Playboy model’s racy new book Bad Habits is subtitled, “confessions of a recovering Catholic”.

It looks at how the mother-of-one was at one time set on becoming a nun, and how her perceptions changed as she grew older.

Her steps into the world of nude modelling, which saw her become Playmate of the Year in 1993, no doubt had a particularly strong effect on her (lack of) faith.

Jenny McCarthy’s also bagged a parenting column in the Chicago Sun-Times, which is attracting controversy given her conviction that her son’s autism is linked to him being vaccinated as a child.

This view doesn’t isn’t supported by medical evidence, and there is concern that Jenny McCarthy’s outspoken views could scare other parents away from essential vaccinations.

Jenny McCarthy, 39, has also been outspoken about Jim Carrey’s lack of contact with her son, who is from a previous relationship.

Jenny McCarthy, who dated the 50-year-old comedian for more than five years, says Jim Carrey completely turned his back on Evan, 10, following their 2010 split.

“I’ve tried to ask [Jim] numerous times [to see Evan], because my son still asks,” the Love in the Wild host told Howard Stern in June, adding that Evan tells her he misses Jim Carrey “almost weekly”.

“I haven’t [reached out directly] . . . I think that sometimes people need to take a real break from each other,” she explained.

“But I still love him. I think you can love people from a distance and respect him. But as a mother, you just hope when you have a relationship with someone, it has nothing to do with the child when you break up.”
