Utilize the values of food rich in phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens come from a variety of naturally occurring foods. Phytoestrogens come in the form of isoflavones and lignans. You can find lignans in foods that contain flaxseed, whole grains and they are also in many fruits and vegetables.
Most women will forgo hormone replacement therapy by using these foods rich in phytoestrogens. Studies are iffy on phytoestrogens. Treatment results vary greatly depending on the person. Many women describe fewer symptoms with treatment. Others respond better to hormone therapies given through their doctor’s office.
Another effective treatment for menopause symptoms, believe it or not, is yoga. Studies have proven that regular yoga helps release the amount of hot flashes a woman experiences. The same studies show that the hot flashes yoga practitioners do have are not as intense as those who do not do yoga. Yoga is also a very effective menopause treatment because, in addition to helping the body physically, it can help keep a woman’s spirits raised.
Getting a physical once a year is not enough for women going through menopause. Get a checkup every few months. This way your doctor will be well informed about your symptoms, the types of treatments you are experimenting with and whether those treatments are working. This also helps your doctor regulate any medications you might be taking if you have decided to treat your menopause medicinally. Your doctor can also catch any conditions that might develop by giving you regular lipid level tests, pap smears and other screeners. This will be very helpful if you start to show signs or symptoms of developing osteoporosis or other conditions or diseases.
There isn’t a sole treatment that will help every woman. Lots of women choose to mix medicinal, herbal and lifestyle menopause treatments to help them cope with all of the symptoms of their “life changes.” Other women decide that they only wan to try one kind of treatment at a time. Others want to pretend that menopause doesn’t exist. You will know what is right for you. Just make sure that you run all of your menopause treatment choices past your doctor before trying them. Don’t try anything without a health professional’s approval. You want to help yourself not hurt yourself.
