Wedding party that fell into Sugarloaf Lake.

A bride stepped out onto the dock over a Michigan lake to pose for a photograph with her husband, bridesmaids and groomsmen, but the platform gave way, plunging the group into the water.

The bride’s feet and the trail of her wedding dress were submerged for many seconds before she was able to clamber out with the assistance of her friends.

The dock over Sugarloaf Lake in Michigan collapses when the bridal group step onto it

The video was taken by California-based cinematographer Jeff Hayford, who posted on YouTube captures the whole incident, which gave a new meaning to “wearing something blue”.

Since being uploaded on Monday, the clip has attracted around 20,000 views on the site, while a picture of the moment the dock collapsed posted on Imgur, under the title “My cousin’s entire Bridal Party sank into a lake this weekend. Awesome picture….” has been seen nearly 800,000 times.

The couple is believed to be Nikki Palluzzi and Jonathan Wagenschutz, who married on Saturday and held their ceremony by Sugarloaf Lake, outside Detroit.

They had headed out to the lake to get a scenic shot of their special day, when disaster struck.

A groomsman surveying the scene saw it coming, according to ChigacoNow.com, saying: “I think the dock is going to collapse.”

It did.

After the shock subsided, everyone involved quickly saw the funny side and was able to get to shore and dry off.

Nikki Palluzzi, a senior coordinator at not-for-profit organization SmithBucklin, according to her LinkedIn profile, can be heard joking: “Jon, towel my legs, you idiot”.

Her husband, Jonathan Wagenschutz rushes to dry the water from bride’s feet and legs, before helping out the bridesmaids.

Nikki Palluzzi then says: “I’m OK. I knew that could happen so I used my core.”

Someone off camera can be heard to remark to Jonathan Wagenschutz: “It was right after you said, <<I have complete confidence>>.”

The groom retorts: “No I said, <<I have confidence>>.”

The group then decide the best way to get over the debacle is to crack open a few beers.
