A recent study has shown that splendid lantern shark, besides glowing in the darkness of the deep waters, can create through light effects a “cloak of invisibility” wich helps it to avoid predators.
Also, this study gathered provings that the cylindrical-shaped sharks’ habitat is extended around the Okinawa Islands of Japan,in addition to the East China Sea, and the vicinity of southern Japan waters.
Julien Claes, Jerome Mallefet and Keiichi Sato caught three specimens of the splendid lantern shark and they kept them in conditons similar to their natural environment.
The observations they made upon the sharks pointed out that each of them had nine separated bright light emitting areas (photophores). The part on the belly, together with some other areas, are responsible for invisibility effect. More luminous zones are located on the shark’s pectoral fins, flanks, tail and sexual organs, probably involved in schooling and sexual communication. The researchers think the process is controlled by nerves and hormones in the first way, secondly the pigments are moving in the cells to accomplish the final effect.

Invisible sharks do really exist as a result of a natural phenomenon called bioluminescence.
There are a number of bioluminiscent animals, they use bioluminescence to lure, to repell, to camouflage, to illuminate and even to communicate, but not all of them can become invisible. How splendid lantern shark produce its shield is explained by Julien Claes who said to Discovery News:

“The photophores replace the down-welling light from the sun, which is absorbed by the shark’s body.The silhouette of the shark therefore disappears when seen from below.”
It is like someone puts a powerfull light into your eyes, I would say. You can see the light, but everything else becomes invisible, such as invisible sharks.
It is interesting to mention that another small dogfish shark, cookiecutter shark, can be only partially visible in order to attract prey.
Julien Claes is a scientist of the Catholic University of Louvain’s Marine Biology Lab. During the recent years he and his fellows colleagues have also studied the velvet belly lantern shark, another small dogfish which also has this feature (invisibility).

Warsaw’s Foundation “Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity” have organized Przystanek Woodstock since 1995, every year at the end of Juky or at the begining of August. Przystanek Woodstock mean in polish Woodstock Bus Stop.
The festival has been held in Kostrzyn nad Odrą, a town near the Germany border, since 2004. Warsaw’s Foundation is an annual organizer of a big fundraiser in which contribute thousands of volunteers. The funds are meant to help the polish hospitalized children.

Upon arriving in the district, the security force encountered a group of insurgents, armed with rocket propelled grenade launchers and AK-47 assault rifles. An exchange of fire initiated shortly after, resulting in several insurgents killed.

In Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained several Taliban insurgents during a security operation, yesterday. The suspected insurgents were detained by Afghan forces for further questioning.
Also in the South, a combined Afghan and coalition security force killed an insurgent leader and several subordinate fighters during an exchange of small arms fire, in Nimroz province, Thursday.
The targeted leader had links to other senior insurgents across Helmand and Nimroz provinces, and was heavily involved in the production of improvised explosive devices.

The plot begins from the idea that there was a secret lunar mission that never returned. Apollo 18 mission was launched in 1974. It followed after the 1972 Apollo 17 the mission that supposedly never went back to Earth.
The film speculates about the cause(s) the United States never started another expedition to the moon. It insinuates a government coverup of the mission of the findings that the crew has been atacked by parasitic lifeforms on the moon.

The US government and NASA state that Apollo 17 was the last manned mission and denie the existence of the Apollo 18 mission. Kiev’s court has arrested Ukraine’s ex-prime-minister Yulia Tymoshenko with the help of 30 policemen and special servicemen.
The arrest was demanded by a prosecutor over Tymoshenko’s numerous attempts to interfere in the trial.
Her supporters in court, including national lawmakers, squabbled with riot police, trying to prevent them from driving her away in a prison car and shouting:
“Shame! Shame!”
Dozens of Yulia Tymoshenko‘s supporters then gathered outside the court building in central Kiev and tried to block the road.
At the August 5th hearing she was insulting the current prime-minister Nikolay Azarov during his testimony. The charismatic Tymoshenko, the country’s top opposition leader, has criticized the trial as an attempt by President Viktor Yanukovych to bar her from elections and mocked the court.
Yulia Tymoshenko has refused to rise when addressing the court, as required, and routinely insulted the judge. Her supporters have repeatedly disrupted hearings.
Complying with the presiding judge’s orders, police surrounded Tymoshenko and escorted her out of the courtroom.
Yulia Tymoshenko is currently accused of abuse of office when signing the gas deal with Russia and can’t leave the country.
The 50-year-old opposition leader is charged with abusing her powers by signing a natural gas import contract with Russia in 2009 that prosecutors claim was disadvantageous to Ukraine.
Yulia Tymoshenko insists she is innocent, arguing that the contract ended weeks of natural gas disruptions to Ukrainian and European consumers and that she was authorized to sign the deal as prime minister.

Rowan Atkinson, famed for his Mr. Bean television shows and films, is recovering in hospital after crashing his McLaren F1 supercar near the Cambridgeshire village of Haddon, according to the British media. Police and firefighters both said that a vehicle crashed late Thursday close to Haddon, a village about 135 kilometres north of London.
Rowan Atkinson, 56 comedian, also known for the Blackadder historical comedy shows, was expected to be discharged on Friday after treatment for a shoulder injury, the Daily Mirror reported.

Cambridgeshire Ambulance Service confirmed the actor had suffered a “minor shoulder injury” as a result of the accident.

Firefighters said the driver was not trapped and he was taken to hospital. Rowan Atkinson walked away from the wreckage and was with a passing motorist until emergency services arrived.

a Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said on Friday.
“The driver of the vehicle, a man, was taken to Peterborough City Hospital.”
East of England ambulance service said :
“We were called to a single vehicle road traffic collision at 7.30 tonight on the A605 at Haddon.”
“A man was taken to hospital in Peterborough with “a minor shoulder injury”, a spokesman added.
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire police said:
“We can confirm that there was a single vehicle road traffic collision at around 7.30pm on the A605.”

The actor Rowan Atkinson was taken to hospital after his car crashed, reports said.
Atkinson’s spokesman could not immediately be reached.
Rowan Atkinson was driving his McLaren F1 supercar – one of the world’s fastest road cars. The McLaren F1 car he was driving is one of the fastest road cars ever made, with a top speed of 230mph. Only 106 were ever made.
Atkinson, known to be a car enthusiast, recently topped the leader’s board on Top Gear’s star in a reasonably priced car segment. The star’s love of fast cars is well documented.

“Without him, there’s no show.”

The MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) has not announced a replacement for Jerry Lewis.
The MDA said it did not expect to name a new host this year and that the Sept. 4 event would be shepherded by entertainment personalities Nigel Lythgoe, Jann Carl, Alison Sweeney and Nancy O’Dell.
Muscular dystrophy is a group of more than 40 disorders that affect more than 1 million Americans. The maladies, sometimes referred to as neuromuscular disorders, weaken the muscles and eventually result in profound disability. The most common form of the disease is Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which affects about 1 in 3,500 males worldwide.
As we previously said Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill was dealing with more important condition than a mild dehydration.
On Monday they interrupted the summer tour through the United States because “vocal issues and exhaustion,” that Caleb Followill was suffering from. The Kings of Leon‘s representative declared to Us Weekly: “The reason for the cancellation of the tour is Caleb is under doctor’s orders for vocal rest. They feel terrible about cancelling. They look forward to getting back on the road at the end of September.”
“We are so sorry to say Kings of Leon are canceling their entire US tour due to Caleb Followill suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion. The band is devastated, but in order to give their fans the shows they deserve, they need to take this break. “They are trying to get Caleb to go to rehab. It is mostly for alcohol. …they ended up canceling the whole tour… he drinks like a fish.”
Another source said Kings of Leon never debated Caleb’s drinking as a problem because they all use to consume a little alcohol during their travels.
Caleb, who recently married Lily Aldridge (Victoria’s Secret model) , has been dealing with this problem for some time.
“It’s true. Caleb’s drinking is out of control and they are trying to get him into rehab. It’s a dark demon he has been fighting for awhile.” said other source.

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech campus lockdown was lifted Thursday afternoon after a thorough police search for a person carrying a gun was not successful. The police released a press statement at 3:15pm about the Virginia Tech armed gun man.
Precisely the same Virginia Tech campus was the scene of the most harmful mass killing by a solitary gunman in U.S. history – the April 16, 2007, firing spree by Seung-Hui Cho which killed 33 individuals and injured 25 other people prior to the gunman committing suicide.

The 2,600-acre campus, was locked down completely at 9:37 a.m. after three teenage girls informed the law enforcement authorities they had spotted a suspect man wondering on campus carrying what appeared to be a weapon covered by a cloth or covering of some sort. “Out of an abundance of caution,” as Larry Hincker, associate VP for University press relations, put it, the university asked students and employees to stay inside and secure doors. For the rest of the day classes were canceled.
Police officers checked the grounds and discovered nobody fitting that description.
“They gave us a good description. We felt it was best course of action to issue a campus alert,” Flinchum said.
“I think the girls believed what they reported. The officers believed they (the girls) believed what was reported and that’s the information they went with.”
Flinchum informed us the witnesses reported seeing the suspect near Dietrick Hall, a three-story dining facility. This facility is very close to the dorm where the mass shootings happened in 2007.
Richard Tagle, Higher Achievement CEO, mentioned several 9 to 14 teens were on campus for the camp and Thursday was the final day.

Virginia Tech’s Website was very informative throughout the whole situation, continually updating people on campus. The University was fined by the federal authorities in Match after a court ruling that administrator violated campus safety laws by waiting too long to inform the employees and the students that there was a probable threat after the first two students were killed in 2007. The killings took place in West Ambler Johnston Hall, which is a dormitory facility near the dining hall.
Virginia Tech University waited more than two hours before sending out an email that day, at the same time Cho – the killer – was already chaining the door shut for a classroom building where he killed an additional 30 students and himself.
There was also an alert in 2008, when a cartridge coming from a nail gun made some sounds similar to gunfire, again near the dormitory. This was the first time the new alert system was activated after the shooting in 2007. This system includes sending text messages and emails as well as other methods to warn the students and faculty members of potential danger.
It’s not illegal to carry a gun on campus grounds. “A public university generally cannot prohibit open or concealed carry of a firearm on campus grounds,” Virginia attorney general’s office said. Any university can ban the carrying of guns inside campus buildings or at public events. Virginia Tech University and other universities cannot ban gun owners who have valid permits for carrying a concealed gun, even inside campus buildings.

“The juveniles were interviewed…officers confirming that there information is credible and at that point we decided to issue the alert,” Flinchum said.

The man was described by police as 6” tall, light brown hair and was wearing a blue and white striped shirt, gray shorts and brown sandals. He did not have facial hair or glasses. In addition, police said that the campers told them the man was shielding the gun with a cloth. Flinchum also said that the man was not pointing or shooting the weapon.

9:37 a.m.: A message was posted on the university’s web site alerting students that there was a gunman near Dietrick Hall. Dietrick Hall is a three floors building, more than 92,000 square foot dining facility on the campus. Students have been adviced to stay indoors.
“Even the construction zone has come to a halt. The whole construction crew is gone. There is no traffic, no movement, no anything,”Virginia Tech communications officer Lynn Davis told CNN soon after the alert was issued.
Some of the professors who were conducting classes at the time of alert have kept their students in their classrooms.
Virginia Tech police are working with several surrounding police units including the Virginia State Police, the Blacksburg Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for campus surveillance.
Summer classes are in session at the campus during this period. Campus spokesman Hincker estimated that a few thousand students are currently on the site. Students begin fall semester check-in on August 17 with fall classes starting August 22.

After his death in 1989, the highly flammable nitrate prints were sent to the Film Archive for safekeeping by his grandson Tony Osborne.
“At the time, people said the plot was improbable. I’m putting a polite spin on it. Many said it was ridiculous,”
Melville said.
“It’s a totally crazy, zany plot with soul migration back and forth and all these improbable meetings.”

Discovery Channel broadcasted Shark Week for the first time in 1987, on July 27. In 2000, 6 millions viewers, from United States, and from Canada, received 3D Pulfrich glasses in order to see an episode that had 3D segments. That episode was about an extinct giant shark.
Now this television program series is transmitted in over 70 countries. The target for this show is the average persons, and its purpose is educational. The aim is to make people to know about the sharks, and to convince them that this animals need to be protected. It’s about conservation and preservation of the nature.
Sharks are a type of fish. They have a highly streamlined body and a full cartilaginous skeleton. Sharks live in every seas and are ordinary down to depths of 2,000 meters (6,600 ft). They generally do not live in freshwater. Five centuries ago the sharks were called “sea dogs” by mariners. The name “shark” first came into use in 1569. Sir John Hawkins’ sailors exhibited one in London and refer to the large sharks of the Caribbean Sea by using the word (shark). The allegations involve a Belgian Malinois that was reported by a witness to have been severely beaten.
The Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois) is a breed of dog, sometimes classified as a variety of the Belgian Shepherd Dog rather than as a separate breed. These dogs are popular in use of police departments, as are German Shepherds.

The witness reported she saw Ryan Matthews strike and kick the Belgian Malinois several times and even dog a “body slam.”
The person called police on July 17, two days after witnessing the alleged abuse.
Larimer County Humane Society investigators obtained a video surveillance taken inside the kennel that confirmed allegations of the beating.
Investigators found blood on the carpet and a hole in the wall, which supports the witness testimony that Matthews slammed the Belgian Malinois’ muzzled nose into the sheetrock wall, causing the hole.
The dog trainer denied that he ever hit or kicked dogs during training, and a veterinarian found no neurological or skeletal abnormalities on the dog, according to the arrest affidavit.
