Todd Green wing walker fell 200 feet to death at an air show in Michigan.

Todd Green, a Silver Wings Wingwalking Team stuntman, has died after falling about 60 metres (200 feet) at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base Air Show in Harrison Charter Township, about 32 km (20 miles) northeast of Detroit, Michigan.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”stanga”] Wing walker, Todd Green was trying to move from a plane to a helicopter when he fell at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base Air Show, according to the air base spokesman, Technical Sergeant Dan Heaton.

The horrible accident happened while wing walker Todd Green was flying on John Mohr’s Stearman aircraft during a stunt at the air show. An ambulance brought stuntman Todd Green to Mount Clemens Regional Medical Centre.

Diane Kish, Mount Clemens Regional Medical Centre spokeswoman said the stuntman died from lethal injuries during accident. [googlead tip=”patrat_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]

Few minutes before wing walker Todd Green’s fall, the air show announcer told the public address system mentioned winds were becoming a factor in the performance, reminding the audience about the inherent risk of danger in the stunt manoeuvres.

Some people from the audience, who saw the stuntman’s fall thought it was part of the show, but quickly learned from the announcer that something had gone wrong, The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reported.

Jennifer Bradley from Linden attended the show accompanied by her sons, ages 7 and 11, when the fall happened.

“There were lots of tears,” Jennifer Bradley told the newspaper.

“We sat and prayed together.”

Republican Candice Miller, who lives in Harrison Township, also was watching as Todd Green fell and told the newspaper she watched the stuntman perform on Saturday, the day before his death.

“It was very surreal,” Candice Miller said of the fall.

“It takes a moment to get your mind around what just happened. I know he was a big part of this show, a lot of people came just to see him.”

Wing walker Todd Green was a Michigan native, started performing aerial stunts over 25 years ago. Todd was the son of prominent aerial stuntman Eddie Green. He left behind his wife, Dawn, his son Tyler and his stepson Derrick.

 [googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]

“During his 45 year career as a stuntman, Eddie performed with pilots Harold Krier, Bill Barber, Bob Barden and Jimmy Franklin,” the Silver Wings Wingwalking Team posted on its website, adding that Todd Green “continues the tradition his father founded.”

8 Ways The Market Collapse Will Affect People’s Lives.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”stanga”]Are you among those who don’t invest in the stock market? Do you think stock market crashes doesn’t concern you?

But… the truth is… they do!

It’s not only those who actively trade who lose money. The average person loses money and opportunities as well. To show how, 24/7 Wall St. put together a list of eight ways market collapses affect people’s lives:

Stock market collapse affects average people's lives.
Stock market collapse affects average people's lives.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”stanga”] 1. Employee benefits cut

Stock market collapses hurt employee benefits in several ways. Initially, when the market is soft, companies tend to pull back on retirement benefits, eliminating pensions and matching 401(k)s. Motivated by the same concern, they also reduce other types of benefits, like health care and dental plans. The 2008 Employee Benefits study by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce showed that “employers began scaling back on employee benefits as the economy slowed down in 2007, even before last fall’s economic tailspin partly unleashed by the constriction of the credit markets,” according to The Wall Street Journal. “The average dollar amount of employee benefits fell 14% to $18,496 in 2007 from $21,527 the year before.”

2. Retirement deferred

Nothing kills retirement like a cratering 401(k) — when the value of savings meant to fund life after people stop working plummets. The difference between a $1 million portfolio and a $500,000 portfolio can be the difference between retiring at 65 or working until 70 — as large numbers of people found out when the market collapsed in 2009. According to USA Today, a 2009 AARP study found that “35% of those ages 45 to 54 have stopped putting money into their 401(k), IRA or other retirement accounts, 25% said they have prematurely withdrawn funds from their retirement accounts.”

3. Home sale

Are the stock markets and home markets tied to one another? Absolutely. Over 20% of home loans in the U.S. are underwater. To sell those homes, owners have to come up with the difference between what they can sell the house for and what they owe the bank. That difference can certainly be well into the tens of thousands of dollars. If the money needed to bridge that difference is tied to the stock market, owners will have a hard time selling.

4. Home purchase

It has become difficult to get a mortgage even though rates are at historic lows. Banks are leery of lending when house prices continue their free fall. A down market makes the banks even more cautious: they tend to tighten lending standards, require higher credit scores, shrink credit limits, raise minimum payments and make it generally more difficult to qualify for a loan. On top of it, any assets potential home owners set aside for down payments are often partially in equities.

5. Education deferred

College funds, kept by many parents for their children’s higher education, are generally comprised in part of equities. A correction in the stock market drags the value of these funds down, and as a result makes paying for tuition harder. During the middle of the last recession, enrollment in low-cost colleges, and public community colleges increased an average 16 percent in 2009, according the U.S. News & World Report. “One reason: ‘reverse transfers.’ Students at expensive four-year universities are switching to lower-cost two-year schools to get their basics completed inexpensively.”

6. Unemployment

Businesses feel the ripple effects of a market collapse fairly fast. Some hold the money on their balance sheets in cash, but that is often mixed in with equities. A rapid and sharp drop in the markets can erode a company’s assets. This, in turn, makes it more cautious about expenditures, which includes payroll. The other reason companies review employment levels when the markets sell off is that the drop is likely to be the precursor of an economic slowdown. If a company sees a recession in its business coming it may lay off workers preemptively.

 [googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]

7. Car purchase

One thing that car companies found out three years ago is that consumer confidence is harder to come by when the market corrects by 30% or 40%. The psychological effect is only part of it. People with a part of their net worth in the stock market usually curtail their spending on anything more than the essentials until they see a rebound in value. And, after a huge correction, a rebound can take years. Added to that, much like a home loan, getting financing becomes much more challenging. J.D. Power & Associates lowered its estimate for U.S. auto sales in 2011 by 300,000 light vehicles to 12.6 million.

8. Small business start-up

Small business start-ups are not funded by venture capital money. People use their own savings or borrow from friends and family the seed capital needed to start a new company. A market sell-off hurts start-ups in two ways. First, it shrinks the nest eggs people might use to begin a new enterprise. Second, it makes it hard for the start-up to flourish as business and consumer confidence are low. The Wall Street Journal reports that according to the Census Bureau, the number of new companies that were started in the 12 months ended March 2009 was down 17.3% from a prior year — the fewest since 1977, when the Census Bureau began keeping records.

Last May, Jerry Lewis made the announcement that he was retiring as host of the telethon, but added that he would make a final appearance on 2011 show and planned on continuing to serve as Muscular Dystrophy Association’s national chairman.

R. Rodney Howell, MDA Chairman of the Board said in a statement that Lewis “will not be appearing on the telethon” and “we will not be replacing him as MDA national chairman.”

Rodney Howell added that Lewis “is a world-class humanitarian and we’re forever grateful to him for his more than half century of generous service to MDA.” [googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]

Jerry Lewis received a lifetime achievement award from the Nevada Broadcasters Association Saturday, claiming that he made his reputation in show business by saving lives.

“I made my reputation in this business caring for what I did, caring for the people that I did it for,” Jerry Lewis said.

Jerry Lewis made no mention of coming back to MDA Telethon while accepting his lifetime achievement award.

Happiness can deter non violent crime and drug use in adolescents.

Bipolar disorder: new hope from stem cell research.

A new University of California Davis study has found that happiness and well-being in adolescents report less involvement in crime and drug use than other youth.[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]

To reach this finding, researchers at the University of California Davis used 1995 and 1996 data from nearly 15,000 seventh- to ninth-grade students in the federally funded National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health.

[googlead tip=”lista_mica” aliniat=”stanga”]About 29% of the students surveyed reported having committed at least one criminal offence, and 18% claimed they had used at least one illegal drug.

The researchers then correlated these reports with students’ self-assessments of emotional well-being and found that those who said they were happier were less likely to commit crimes or use drugs.

Happiness and well-being in adolescents report less involvement in crime and drug use than other youth.
Happiness and well-being in adolescents report less involvement in crime and drug use than other youth.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”stanga”] “Our results suggest that the emphasis placed on happiness and well-being by positive psychologists and others is warranted,” said co-author Bill McCarthy, a UC Davis sociology professor.

The researchers also found that youth with even minor depression were much more likely to be involved in criminal activity or drug use. And while most of teenagers have periods of happiness and depression, “it’s when negative periods begin to outnumber the more positive ones that trouble can start,” the UC Davis researchers said.

“In addition to their other benefits, programs and policies that increase childhood and adolescent happiness may have a notable effect on deterring non violent crime and drug use,” said Prof. Bill McCarthy.

Prof. Bill McCarthy and Teresa Casey, a postdoctoral researcher at UC Davis argued that positive emotions also have a role.

The UC Davis team theorized that the benefits of generally happiness – such as maintaining strong bonds with others, feeling good about oneself, and gaining good social skills – can help teenagers make good decisions.

“We hypothesize that the benefits of happiness – from strong bonds with others, a positive self-image and the development of socially valued cognitive and behavioral skills – reinforce a decision-making approach that is informed by positive emotions,” they wrote in their study.

Their research finds that happier adolescents were less likely to report involvement in crime or drug use. Adolescents with minor, or nonclinical, depression had significantly higher odds of engaging in such activities.

The study was to be presented Monday at the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association in Las Vegas.

Since the study has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal, the findings should be viewed as preliminary.

Bipolar disorder: new hope from stem cell research.

Happiness can deter non violent crime and drug use in adolescents.

Risk of autism recurrence in siblings is higher than thought.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mediu” aliniat=”stanga”] The University of Michigan Health System researchers said stem cell could offer new hope for unlocking the secrets of bipolar disorder.

A new project begins at the University of Michigan as the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Fund marks ten years in the search for a cure of bipolar disorder.

According to a University of Michigan Health System statement  posted on its website on August 22, the new stem cell lines developed from the skin of adults living with bipolar disorder are providing researchers at the University of Michigan Health System an unprecedented opportunity to delve into the genetic and biological underpinnings of the devastating mood disorder.

Scientists will be able to link new findings – such as how gene expression is affected by different medications – to extensive clinical and demographic data from the cell donors, who are also participants in an ongoing long-term study of hundreds of individuals with bipolar disorder.

The induced pluripotent stem cells could offer new hope for unlocking the secrets of bipolar disorder.
The induced pluripotent stem cells could offer new hope for unlocking the secrets of bipolar disorder.

The new research comes as the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Fund, based at the University of Michigan Depression Center, prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of its establishment by Waltraud “Wally” Prechter following the July 2001 death of her husband, Heinz. Before he took his life, few people knew that the well-known automotive entrepreneur wrestled with bipolar disorder.

“Currently the best treatments for bipolar disorder are only effective for 30 percent to 50 percent of patients,” said Melvin McInnis, M.D., the Thomas B and Nancy Upjohn Woodworth Professor of Bipolar Disorder and Depression at the University of Michigan Medical School and associate director at the University of Michigan Depression Center.

“New discoveries have been limited, in part due to the lack of access to tissue and cells from individuals with bipolar disorder. But that is now changing because of the Prechter research program and advances in stem cell research.”

The new stem cell lines – among the first to be created by the A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute Consortium for Stem Cell Therapies – were made from fibroblasts from skin samples donated by adult research volunteers both with and without bipolar disorder.[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]

In the lab, scientists can coax these skin cells into behaving like embryonic stem cells. Known as induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPSC, these, in turn, can be manipulated to develop into different types of body cells, including brain cells.

“We will be able to see if there are differences in how the neurons of a person with bipolar disorder make connections, determine how they respond to different medications and explore potential deficiencies in signaling pathways,” explained Sue O’Shea, Ph.D., a professor of cell and developmental biology at the Medical School who leads the stem cell lab with Gary Smith, Ph.D, professor of obstetrics and gynecology.

“So far, five lines have been created. The goal, is to develop 30 cell lines – 20 from people with bipolar disorder and 10 control subjects. Creating each line is a painstaking and expensive process.”

“We often think of stems cells being used in therapies to treat disease, but this is a great example of stem cells’ usefulness for studying the mechanisms of disease.”

“The iPS cells renew themselves, so they’re an unlimited source of material and offer hope to individuals with bipolar disorder.”

Still, the researchers caution, new treatments spurred by this work could be a decade or more away.

Bipolar disorder, formerly known as manic depression, affects 5.7 million adults in the United States. It is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain and marked by significant changes in mood, thoughts, energy and behavior.

Heinz Prechter, the well known automotive entrepreneur wrestled with bipolar disorder.

[googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”dreapta”]Because bipolar disorder runs in families, research at University of Michigan (U-M) has focused on studying disease genes. There is no single gene that “causes” someone to become bipolar, but the disease has its roots in genetic vulnerabilities.

The Prechter Bipolar Genetic Repository already houses more than 1,500 genetic samples from people with bipolar disorder and healthy controls from studies at U-M along with collaborating sites: Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Cornell and Penn State. It is the first independently funded bipolar genetics repository in the nation. In addition to sharing the knowledge between the different universities, confidential, coded DNA repository samples and clinical information will be made available to scientists worldwide to accelerate and share clinical breakthroughs in evaluating and treating bipolar disorder.

The Prechter longitudinal study has already collected more than 5 years’ worth of data.

“I’m really proud that over the last 10 years my husband’s legacy has grown to include the strides we’re making to understand bipolar disorder and find new treatments,” Wally Prechter says.

“Bipolar is like any other illness – cancer, diabetes, heart disease – and deserves the same urgency.”

“That lack of effective treatment is a big reason for the high risk of suicide or suicide attempts among people with bipolar disorder. Anywhere from 5% to 15% of bipolar patients will attempt or commit suicide sometime in their lives,” said McInnis.

“Depression caused by Heinz Prechter’s bipolar disorder affected his whole being,” said Wally Prechter.

“He was extremely exuberant and happy, and very, very optimistic, to the point that I thought, ‘Wow, I’ve never met anyone like that.’ But when he was depressed it was to the point that he would stay home and just sit in a chair and look out at the river,” she said.

The memory of how her brilliant husband was reduced to such a low, unable to tell anyone what he was going through, is part of what continues to drive her today.

U-M Health System CEO and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, M.D., points to the research as a great example of the strides that can be made when public institutions and private donors collaborate on research that benefits the public.

“The Prechter research shows how we continue to fuel innovation through exciting collaborations that highlight our commitment to bench-to-bedside medical advances,” Pescovitz said.

“We are very fortunate to have Wally and her family as part of our Michigan family.”

HP TouchPad Australian fire sale. Harvey Norman pulls the tablet from shelves too.

8/28 UPDATE HP TouchPad STILL IN STOCK

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales in Europe blocked by Apple.

HP tablet: Best Buy will sell TouchPad at fire sale prices.

HP TouchPad Australian exclusive retailer, Harvey Norman has decided to pull HP tablet from shelves, rushing the liquidation of HP’s tablet from the market barely weeks after its launch.

HP TouchPad launch on Australian market had happened only 4 days before Hewlett-Packard‘s unexpected decision to discontinue device operations, the Register reported.

Harvey Norman’s decision came even as Hewlett-Packard’s PR agency was sending review devices to technology writers, the report said.

The HP TouchPad is not currently listed on the retailer’s Web site anymore. Harvey Norman said it will offer full refund to customers who would return the tablet following the decision.

[googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]The customers who decide to keep HP TouchPad have been warned that post-sales service would not be available. Only about 1000 HP TouchPad had been sold before the decision to pull them from the shelves was announced.

HP made the surprising announcement, which shocked the entire industry, on Thursday saying it was exiting the PC business and discontinuing operations for HP Touchpad tablet computer based on Palm’s webOS software.

It said HP board has “authorized the exploration of strategic alternatives for its Personal Systems Group” and plans to close down its webOS device business. The shocking announcement came only few days after Google agreed to buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion.

HP’s decision apparently followed the poor performance of HP TouchPad just weeks into its worldwide launch. The tablet got only a small impact on the market and was unable to compete with Apple’s iPad 2 and other Android tablets in terms of both features as well as ecosystem.

Following negative market feedback, HP reduced HP TouchPad price by $100 to boost its sales, but that did not help. Best Buy and other HP retailers started complaining of more than 200,000 units lying unsold in their warehouses. In response to their complaints, HP credited Best Buy and other resellers about $100 million for their unsold inventory.

As a result of HP’s decision to exit personal computer business, the HP TouchPad was immediately on a fire sale, with retailers reducing prices drastically. 16GB and 32GB tablets prices were reduced considerably to $99 and $149 respectively.

“HP will be lowering the price of the TouchPad beginning Saturday 8/20/11. This is the lowest price ever for the TouchPad so please post it as soon as it goes live,” an HP memo had said.

Libya News: The rebels take control of Tripoli

Tripoli: “Operation Mermaid Dawn”.

“Operation Mermaid Dawn” has succeeded, after six months of civil war, the events concluded in just a few hours, the rebels have reached the centre of the Libya’s capital, Tripoli.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mediu” aliniat=”stanga”]Muammar Gaddafi’s defenders have fled, and thousands of civilians went out to cheer the the rebels while they were advancing into the city. The people gathered in the Green Square shouting “We’re free” and they shoot at a poster of Gaddafi, reported Al Jazeera.

There was not much resistance from Gaddafi’s supporters while the  were approaching the Libyan capital.

“People are worried about sleeper cells but cleaning up operations are under way to make sure there are no snipers in the buildings nearby. People are confident that the government has fallen and they are in control”said Zeina Khodr, Al Jazeera’s correspondent.

The capital has surrendered along with the military unit that was protecting Muammar al Gaddafi, said a rebel official (AP).

There was no co-ordination between NATO air forces and the rebels forces on the ground, said Oana Lungescu, NATO’s chief spokeswoman.

“What we’re seeing tonight is the regime crumbling,” Oana Lungescu told AFP.

There is no information on Libya‘s former leader, Moammar Gadhafi, but two of his sons are in the rebels’ custody.

In his latest message,  Gaddaffi said Tripoli would be turned into another Baghdad.

“How come you allow Tripoli, the capital, to be under occupation once again?” he said. “The traitors are paving the way for the occupation forces to be deployed in Tripoli.”

Mohammed, Gaddafi’s eldest son, has surrendered and told Al Jazeera that the revolution was caused by a lack of wisdom.

“I’ve never been a government or security official, however I can tell you the absence of wisdom and foresight is what brought us to here today. Our differences could have been solved easily,” he said.

His house was attacked while he was speaking, but head of the NTC  told Al Jazeera that Mohammed was not hurt.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]”He will remain in his house, and I guarantee his safety.” Mustafa Abdel Jalil said.

Saif al-Islam, as Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, confirmed was arrested and probably he will be transferred to The Hague, if  the NTC agrees.

Barak Obama said Gaddafi must “acknowledge the reality that he no longer controls Libya. He needs to relinquish power once and for all”.

“The future of Libya is now in the hands of the Libyan people.” He stated and said the US would “continue to insist that the basic rights of the Libyan people are respected.”

There were rumors about two South African air force planes that were seen at Tripoli airport, but Mahmoud Shamam, of the NTC told Al Jazeera, that the planes could not take Gaddafi since the airport was under rebel control.

“I have no knowledge of any South African planes in Tripoli … but Nato should know, since they control the airport and no plane can land without their permission,” said Mohammed Dangor, South Africa’s ambassador to Libya.

London: “Red Arrows” (British Royal Air Force) pilot died in a plane crash

London: “Red Arrows” (British Royal Air Force) pilot died in a plane crash

[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]Acording to Ministry of Defense the plane of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging, 33, crashed near an airport some 100 miles from London. The plane apparently suffered a failure after performing at the Bournemouth Air Festival. Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging was flying under the call sign RED 4 and it seemed to have tried to eject only after guiding the RAF jet towards a field to avoid crashing over the houses. He was the first Red Arrows pilot to die in a crash for 33 years.

It is with sadness that the MOD must confirm the death of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging of the Royal Air Force Aerobatics Team (The Red Arrows).

Jon Egging Red Arrows

[googlead tip=”lista_mica” aliniat=”stanga”]Flight Lieutenant Egging was killed when his Hawk T1 aircraft – Red 4 – crashed around 1km South East of Bournemouth Airport at 1350 on Saturday 20 August 2011.

A full Service Inquiry into the details of the crash has been initiated. It would be inappropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident at this time.

Dr Emma Egging, the wife of Flt Lt Jon Egging, said:

“Jon was everything to those that knew him, and he was the best friend and husband I could ever have wished for. I know that he would have wanted me to say something from the heart at this time. There was nothing bad about Jon. He loved his job and was an exemplary pilot. Watching him today, I was the proudest I’ve ever been. I loved everything about him, and he will be missed.”

Group Captain Simon Blake, the Commandant of the RAF’s Central Flying School, said:

“Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging, known as ‘Eggman’, joined the Team as Red 4 in the Autumn of 2010. A gifted aviator, he was chosen to fly in the Red 4 slot, on the right hand outside of the famous Diamond Nine formation – an accolade in itself being the most demanding position allocated to a first year pilot. Throughout his winter training and the display season to date, his professionalism, skill and humility have shone through.”

“A true team player, his good nature and constant smile will be sorely missed by all. In such a close knit team, this tragedy will be keenly felt by his fellow team members, the Reds and all of the engineering and support staff, the Blues.”

Air Vice Marshal Mark Green, Air Officer Commanding 22 (Training) Group, said:

“I first met Flt Lt Jon Egging in 2003 when I became his Station Commander. Even at that early stage in his career, Jon’s professionalism, competence and ever present smile made him stand out from the crowd. Hence, his eventual selection for duties with the Red Arrows came as no surprise. His time with the Team was typified by the characteristics that were Jon’s trademark: professionalism, enthusiasm for life and a willingness to help others that transcended all boundaries. Jon will be sorely missed by all those that had the privilege to know him; our thoughts and prayers are with Jon’s family and friends at this tragic time.”

Flight Lieutenant Egging, aged 33 from Rutland, flew the Harrier GR9 before joining the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team. Jon became interested in flying at an early age, inspired by his airline pilot father who used to take him ‘down route’, allowing him into the cockpit for take off and landing. Jon is survived by his wife, Emma.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mic”]He attended Southam School in Warwickshire gaining A-Levels in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. He was a member of 2028 (Southam) Sqn Air Training Corps from age 13. During the sixth form he was awarded a Royal Air Force Flying Scholarship and had his first solo flight in a Cessna 152 flying from Wellesbourne Mountford Aerodrome. Following a gap year spent working in the UK and travelling around Australia, Jon went on to read a BSc in Environmental Science at Southampton University. He joined Southampton University Air Squadron and was awarded a Royal Air Force Bursary in his second year.

Whilst at University Jon completed Elementary Flying Training with the University Air Squadron, flying the Bulldog; he went on to join the Royal Air Force in 2000. Selected for fast jet training Jon flew the Tucano and Hawk before becoming a ‘Creamie’ Qualified Flying Instructor on the Hawk at Royal Air Force Valley, teaching both students and instructors. Jon went on to serve with IV(AC) Squadron – ‘Happy IV’ – based at Royal Air Force Cottesmore, flying the Harrier GR9.

During his time on the front line Jon was proud to support coalition ground forces when flying operational missions in Afghanistan. He has also taken part in exercises in the United Kingdom and America. As part of Joint Force Harrier, Jon served with IV(AC) Squadron on HMS Illustrious, flying training missions off the UK coastline. He became the Squadron Qualified Flying Instructor during his last year on ‘Happy IV’, making the transition to teach on the Harrier Operational Conversion Unit, based at Royal Air Force Wittering, in April 2010.

Defence Secretary, Dr Liam Fox, said:

“It was with great sadness that I heard of the death of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging whilst performing with the Red Arrows today. He was a gifted aviator who was selected for one of the most demanding flying jobs in the RAF. Joining the Red Arrows was his lifetime ambition and he performed with great skill whilst on the team. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Emma and his family and friends at this terrible time.”

New York: Verizon strike – Employees to Return to Work

New York: Verizon strike update[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]

The end of the two-week strike was announced Saturday by Verizon Communications Inc. and union leaders. According to Verizon press release, the 45,000 unionized employees will return to work Monday night, although the two parties have not yet agreed to a contract.

Verizon’s Striking Union-Represented Employees to Return to Work[googlead tip=”lista_mica” aliniat=”stanga”]

New York: Verizon strike
Bay Area union workers in San Francisco marched in solidarity with striking Verizon workers on the East Coast.

Verizon Communications today announced that its 45,000 wireline employees in nine Northeastern states and the District of Columbia who are represented by the CWA and IBEW will return to work beginning Monday night, Aug. 22, without new collective bargaining agreements.

Verizon and the unions have made headway in negotiating a number of local and regional issues, and the parties have agreed on a process for moving forward to negotiate the major issues regarding benefits, cost structure, work flexibility and job security.

Verizon said the wireline employees now on strike would be working under the terms of the contracts that expired on Saturday, Aug. 6. The contracts will be extended with no specific deadline for achieving new collective bargaining agreements so that the parties can take the time required to resolve the critical issues.

Marc Reed, Verizon’s executive vice president of human resources, said, “We agreed to end the strike because we believe that is in the best interest of our customers and our employees. “What a beautiful day for a wedding!

On our way to the wedding of @chelywright & @lulublitzer. Triumph of spirit over fear, love over hate. @wishmeawaydoc celebrates open hearts, ” said Chely on Twitter.

In May 2010 the forty years old singer, Chely Wright, has declared that she was a lesbian.

I feel like I’m floating. It’s like my friends who are in the know, which are not many, and my family members who know, which isn’t all of them, are lifting me up to get through this,” she said.

Some time later, Chely said coming out “didn’t help my career.” Her albums’ sales were down and beside that an article in Tennessean remarked Chely Wright‘s genre has begun to change to Americana.

” Country music would rather an artist be a drunk, they even encourage and endorse that one. You get good money from Jim Beam to put that emblem on the side of your bus. I was on the Crown Royal tour, and I have to say it was one of my favorite tours. They would rather you were a drug addict than be gay. They will forgive you if you beat your wife, lose your kids to state, get six divorces, make a sex tape, get labeled as a tramp — any and all of it is better than being gay.” Said Chely Wright in an Los Angeles Times’ interview (with Geoff Boucher).

A documentary film about Wright’s admitting she is a lesbian, Wish Me Away, was released in June 2011. The film’s title is one of the tracks on her 2010 album, Lifted Off the Ground. The movie, filmed over three years, premiered at the 35th annual Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco. Wish Me Away (WMA) won two awards: Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary at the Frameline 35 Festival in San Francisco.

In 2010 Chely was named one of Out magazine’s annual “100 People of the Year” and Metro Source New York Magazine named Chely Wright as one of the “20 people We Love”.

HP tablet: Best Buy will sell TouchPad at fire sale prices.

8/28 UPDATE HP TouchPad STILL IN STOCK

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales in Europe blocked by Apple.

HP tablet, TouchPad will be sold by Best Buy at clearance prices – if any tablet is left – after reports that the retailer was sending its stock of the tablets back to the manufacturer.

Hewlett -Packard has said it will discontinue operations for HP tablet, TouchPad, and its WebOS system, potentially impacting many who buy the fire sale product at a loss for service and updates in the future. After this announcement, many shoppers have been searching for the HP tablet ever since it was heavily discounted on Friday.

HP’s promised hot new tablet product, the TouchPad, has turned in an instant into an embarrassing fire sale flop.

HP tablet’s liquidation sale, selling 16GB units for $99 and 32GB for $149 is attracting buyers, but affecting the brand and leaving many question marks.

Initially, the HP tablet’s stock was offered through BestBuy.com in Canada, but they soon sold out online.

Already on Saturday, with so many units sold in a flurry as retailers across the world slashed prices, the company’s call center blew up.

Demand of callers with questions and service needs was more than the unit could hand and its online database spun with errors as at the IT company’s server designated to handle HP tablet TouchPad sales and service was overwhelmed.

Best Buy retailers have told people they were sending their HP tablet stock back to Hewlett-Packard, leaving those customers out of the feeding frenzy.

While still not offering the HP tablet online, Best Buy has apparently changed its tune, saying on its website that it will sell any HP tablet it still has in stores at the discounted prices of $99 for the Wi-Fi-only 16GB device and $149 for the 32GB version. [googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”dreapta”]

Best Buy didn’t say it has currently any HP tablet TouchPad remaining in inventory, but some people might find one at the stores which are opened on Sunday’s.

Because of the HP tablet fire sale price, there are restrictions, if you do score a TouchPad at Best Buy, you won’t be able to return it and the 1 year manufacturer’s warranty is available only through HP and not Best Buy.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mediu” aliniat=”stanga”]Raymond McGuinness, one of the Izmir murders victim’s ex-husband arrived in Turkey yesterday evening to comfort his distraught daughter, Shannon Graham.

Saturday afternoon, Raymond McGuinness, accompanied by his son David, went to the central courthouse of Izmir to identify the bodies of Marion Elizabeth Graham, his ex-wife and her best friend, Kathy Dinsmore, through photographs.

When he was leaving the court, Shannon Graham’s father said:

“I have met Shannon earlier today, and she is very upset.”

“Once the identification process is over, then we will try to repatriate the bodies back to Ireland, but that won’t be until mid-week.”

“This is clearly a very distressing time for us, and so we would like a bit of privacy.”

Shannon’s father described his ex-wife, one of the Izmir murders victims, as “the life and soul of the party” who “adored Shannon”.

 [googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]

Shannon Graham called the police when her mother and her best friend, Kathy Dinsmore, failed to return from a daytrip with Cetin Recep, who is also known locally by the name Alex.

According to local media reports Cetin Recep stabbed Marion Graham, 54, in the heart and cut Kathy Dinsmore’s throat. Both women were stabbed as many as 15 times.

Cetin Recep confessed the Izmir murders.
Cetin Recep confessed the Izmir murders.

Cetin Recep clashed with Shannon Graham’s mother, Marion, last week when she learned he had kicked Shannon during a fight.

Raymond McGuinness said Marion Graham “went ballistic” and warned Cetin never to lay a finger on her daughter again.

McGuiness said also that Cetin Recep had threatened to kill Marion but that Shannon had dismissed the threat as “just words”. The young Turkish waiter, Cetin Recep, was a “possessive” and jealous boyfriend, who became “besotted” with Shannon when they met about one and a half year ago at the restaurant where he worked.

Last Thursday, Cetin recep took Marion Graham and her best friend, Kathy Dinsmore on a shopping trip to Izmir, while Shannon was in a boat trip for the day.

Cetin’s uncle, who wanted to remain anonymous, said:

“They left by taxi for Izmir, where his father Eyup runs a shop. There, Cetin took a family car to drive the women out to the woodland area of Buca where he murdered them.”

“A friend of Cetin’s called me and said Cetin was at the police station and had been stabbed. I don’t have a lot of time for my nephew – he’s disrespectful and arrogant but he’s family and so I had to go and see.”

“When I arrived at Kusadasi police station, Cetin and Shannon were both there. Cetin had a cut bandaged on his hand. I spoke to him for a few minutes and he told me a story about three men in a black van.”

“He couldn’t explain how he returned to Kusadasi.”

“I talked to Shannon at the station. She seemed very calm and was coming up with suggestions as to who the men in the black van might be. She wasn’t sobbing or crying.”

One of the Recep Cetin’s friends told Turkish police that Cetin had dumped a bag in a bin near family house. Investigators discovered Cetin’s blood-stained clothes.

Recep Cetin’s uncle added:

“I think his story fell apart and after a few further hours of interrogation, Cetin broke down and confessed.”

“He told police that Marion planned to take Shannon back to Ireland, effectively ending their romance.”

“Cetin and Shannon were very much in love.”

“They had been virtually inseparable for the last two years. Shannon’s been coming here since she was a child – she’s well known on Ladies Beach.”

“Everyone knew she was Cetin’s girlfriend. They would argue – that’s quite normal. I think he slapped her once or twice.”

“He would get cross if she sunbathed topless – those things are quite common here with Muslim men dating independent Western women.”

Another friend of Cetin, Veli, from Sundial Tours, known as Slim Jim confirmed that both teenagers were serious about each other:

“Recep was like a younger brother to me. Yes, he could be a bit headstrong but he was a 17-year-old lad. He had the odd fight but nothing serious.”

“He never pushed Shannon to convert to Islam.. He was comfortable with her western style of dress. He knew short skirts and bikinis were normal for her.”

“I’m stunned about what’s happened. It just doesn’t make sense. They could have waited a couple more years and married anyway without her mum’s permission. It’s a terrible tragedy.”

Dan Doyle – ex-husband of the other Izmir murders victim, Kathy Dinsmore – suffered an astonishing tragic coincidence when his second wife died on the same day.

Dan Doyle, from Newry, Ireland – Kathy Dinsmore’s ex-husband – was mourning the death of his second wife, Colette Doyle, who died suddenly in hospital on Thursday, the same day as the Izmir murders.

Kathy Dinsmore and her best friend Marion Graham were murdered in a forest, near the city of Izmir, 70 miles from sunshine resort of Kusadasi after they objected to a Turkish teenager, Recep Cetin, marrying Marion Graham’s 15-year-old daughter, Shannon.

It is understood that Dan Doyle and Kathy Dinsmore have been divorced for several years and that he subsequently married Colette with whom he had three children.

Colette Doyle died suddenly in Craigavon Area Hospital on Thursday, leaving six children – Gareth, Kevin, Brendan, Conlin, Hannah and Danielle. Another child, Darryl, tragically died previously.

Recep Cetin, Turkish waiter who has confessed the murders of two British women in a forest near Izmir city on Thursday has been charged with stabbing to death Marion Graham and her friend Kathy Dinsmore.

Recep Cetin, 17, initially tried to cover up their murders by claiming they had been abducted by a gang of men.

The teenager has been charged with stabbing to death Marion Graham, 54, following a row over her daughter Shannon, 15, who he was dating.

He drove Marion Graham and her friend Kathy Dinsmore, 54, to a forest near Izmir and stabbed them. Marion Graham was stabbed in her heart and Kathy Dinsmore had her throat cut.

Recep Cetin, who is now in police custody, was a well-known figure on the beachfront at the Turkish[googlead tip=”vertical_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”] resort of Kusadasi, at the Aegean Sea, westside of the Turkey, and was nicknamed Alex by British tourists.

The young man, who dropped out of school at 13, had been dating Marion Graham’s daughter, Shannon, for 18 months. Last May, he rented a villa in Kusadasi which he shared with Shannon, Marion Graham and Kathy Dinsmore.

Marion and Shannon Graham, who both lived in County Down, Northern Ireland, but travelled on Irish passports, used to spend the summertime in Turkey.

Their Kusadasi neighbors said they often heard shouting and arguing coming from villa.

One resident said:

“They didn’t really fit in here. It’s a very quiet, friendly place. There was a lot of aggression and raised voices – we kept our distance.”

Local media reports claim Recep Cetin told police he had pleaded with Marion graham one last time in the woods to let Shannon stay in Kusadasi and marry him. But woman refused, claiming Shannon was too young, and was supported by her friend Kathy Dinsmore.

Last Thursday, Cetin offered to take Marion and her friend on a shopping trip to Izmir, 70 miles away, after dropping off Shannon to go on a boat trip.

According to Recep Cetin’s uncle, who has asked not to be named, the teenager then used a local taxi to ferry women to Izmir where his father Eyup runs a corner shop. From Izmir, Recep Cetin took a family car to drive them out to the woodland area of Buca.

[googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”stanga”]Recep Cetin returned to Kusadasi where he claimed a black van had pulled up in the forest with three men inside. He also said the men tried to abduct Marion and Kathy, and while trying to fight them off he was cut on the hand and knocked unconscious.

But according to his uncle his story was unconvincing.

“When I arrived at Kusadasi police station Cetin and Shannon were there. Cetin had a cut bandaged on his hand. He couldn’t explain how he returned to Kusadasi.”

“After a few hours of interrogation Cetin broke down and confessed to killing the women. He told police Marion planned to take Shannon back to Ireland, ending their romance and they were heartbroken.”

Turkish police initially arrested Cetin’s father, Eyup Cetin, and the taxi driver that had taken the group to Izmir.

Marion Graham, who was divorced from Shannon’s father, had remarried a Turk named Yucel but they have separated. Shannon’s father, Raymond McGuinness also owns an apartment in Kusadasi.

Raymond McGuiness arrived in Izmir Saturday after flying from Ireland to be with his daughter and to identify the bodies.

He said:

“I have met Shannon and she is very upset. This is clearly a very distressing time for us.”

Recep Cetin has been further remanded in custody but his father, Eyup, and the taxi driver were released.

World Youth Day 2011: storm cut short Pope’s speech.

Madrid: violent protests against the cost of Pope’s visit.

[googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]A thunderstorm has forced Pope Benedict XVI to cut short his yesterday  speech during a prayer vigil at the Catholic Church of World Youth Day 2011 festival in Madrid, Spain.

More than 1.5 million young pilgrims gathered at the church of World Youth Day 2011 festival on Saturday to be in place for the vigil when a flash, blustery downpour drenched the crowd and forced Pope Benedict XVI to suspend his speech. During the day, before the procession, firefighters atop fire trucks had sprayed the crowds with water from hoses, and pilgrims sought shade from umbrellas, trees, tarps and tents in a bid to stave off the near 40 degrees Celsius (about 104 Fahrenheit) heat.

Once the rains stopped, about a half hour later, Pope Benedict XVI merely delivered brief greetings in a half-dozen languages, skipping the bulk of his World Youth Day speech.

Despite the discomfort, the scene at the Cuatro Vientos airport was nevertheless festive and colorful, with pilgrims in a rainbow of sunhats dancing, singing and waving their national flags as they geared up for a massive sleepover ahead of Sunday’s main World Youth Day Mass.

The crowd erupted in cheers when Pope Benedict XVI arrived at nightfall, greeted by Spain’s crown Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia. But he couldn’t proceed with his speech because of the thunderstorm and organizers told the crowd that they had asked for more water during the day when it was so hot, and their prayers were answered.

“With this rain, the Lord sends us many blessings,” Pope Benedict said when he resumed his shortened remarks.

Reverend Federico Lombardi, Vatican spokesman said that when the storm started, Pope Benedict had been asked by his aides what he wanted to do and he insisted that he wanted to wait the storm out. The 30 minutes delay was due mainly to the failure of the sound system; once it was fixed and the storm passed, Pope Benedict proceeded with the vigil program, he said.

According to organizers, six people were slightly injured when a tent collapsed during the storm.

Pope Benedict XVI attended World Youth Day for the third time. World Youth Day is a once-every-[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”dreapta”]three-year event and gathers young Catholics from all around the world and was launched 25 years ago by Pope John Paul II in a bid to reinvigorate and spread the faith among the young.

World Youth Day festival looked pretty much as a weeklong rock concert and camping trip, with bands of flag-toting pilgrims roaming through Madrid’s otherwise empty streets to take part in prayer and education sessions, Masses, cultural outings and papal events.

“I haven’t been able to catch the pope’s exact words because he has spoken only in Spanish but it is an amazing experience to share these moments with so many people from so many different countries,” said Joseph Maduma, a 16-year-old student from Tanzania.

“We have come to spend the night here and really look forward to meeting lots of new friends,” he said.

Earlier Saturday, Pope Benedict celebrated a Mass with nearly 4,000 seminarians at Madrid’s main cathedral and announced that he would soon proclaim St. John of Avila a doctor of the church, conferring one of Catholicism’s greatest honors on the influential 16th century Spanish saint.

The title of church doctor is reserved for those churchmen and women whose writings have greatly served the universal church. There are currently 33 such doctors, including St. Augustine, St. Francis de Sales and St. Teresa of Avila. Pope John Paul II added St. Therese of Lisieux to the list in 1997, the last time one was proclaimed.

“In making this announcement here, I would hope that the word and the example of this outstanding pastor will enlighten all priests and those who look forward to the day of their priestly ordination,” Pope Benedict said.

St. John of Avila, who lived from 1500-1569, is the patron saint of Spain’s diocesan clergy and was considered one of the greatest preachers of his time. A mystic born to a wealthy family, he is known for his theology of the priesthood and is particularly revered in Spain and Latin America, said the Reverend Antonio Pelayo, a Spanish priest who attended Saturday’s Mass.

“He lived during a difficult period in the church’s history when the clergy was very relaxed and somewhat dissolute, something that pained him a lot,” Reverend Pelayo said.

“St. John of Avila developed a theology for the priesthood which enabled the church to grasp and refine an important element of popular religiousness.”

Pope Benedict’s announcement, while rumored, took many by surprise and drew sustained applause from the seminarians, priests, bishops and cardinals present.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mediu” aliniat=”stanga”]Hundreds of protesters against Pope’s visit at the World Youth Day 2011 had gathered outside the Atocha train station aiming to march toward Puerta del Sol but police stopped them before their arrival at the destination by blocking the route.

Last night, riot police clashed again with people protesting against Pope’s visit, charging several groups that had been trying to reach the Puerta del Sol square late Friday.

The protesters were unhappy with Spain decision to spend 50 million euro ( $72 million) for World Youth Day 2011 and Pope’ s visit at a time of economic crisis. Organizers claimed the event is being funded entirely by the participants, private donors and the church, though the sizeable security costs are extra.

Tripoli: “Operation Mermaid Dawn”

The time of freedom arrived with the rebels closing to Tripoli

“The fighters in Tripoli are rising up in two places at the moment – some are in the Tajoura neighbourhood and the other is near the Matiga (international) airport,” he told Al-Jazeera.

Tajoura is the Tripoli neighborhood most openly opposed to Gaddafi. Heavy fights has been in Souq al-Jomaa, Fashloum and Tajoura, a rebel representative told the AP.

While Tripoli seems to be besieged, Abdessalam Jalloud, former prime minister, left for Italy via Tunisia on Saturday. [googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]

The government official told AFP “Jalloud left Djerba airport for Italy at dawn on a Maltese plane with his family”.

“We are verifying this information,” said Maurizio Massari from the Italian Foreign Ministry.

Early on Sunday morning Muammar al Gaddafi  congratulated his men for repelling an attack upon Tripoli.

[googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]Live audio on state television, Gaddafi expressed congratulation to his supporters for repelling a rebels attack. He called the rebels “rats”.

Moammar Gadhafi said Nicolas Sarkozy wants to steal the country’s oil and the rebels were “bent on the destruction of the Libyan people”.

Gaddafi impeled his supporters to “march by the millions” and put an end to a  rebellion, that he called a “masquerade”.

Meanwhile, the rebels said the Gaddafi’s regime is heading to an end.

“The zero hour has started. The rebels in Tripoli have risen up,” said Abdel Hafiz Ghoga, vice-chairman of the National Transitional Council (NTC), in the eastern city of Benghazi.

On Sunday an official in the rebel NTC said that operations in Tripoli were co-ordinated between opponents of Gaddafi in the city and the rebels in the east.

“There is co-ordination with the rebels in Tripoli. This was a pre-set plan. They’ve been preparing for a while. There’s co-ordination with the rebels approaching from the east, west and south,” he said.

Abdel Hafiz Ghoga said NATO warplanes were sending air strikes to distract Gaddafi’s forces.

“The next hours are crucial. Many of their (pro-Gaddafi) brigades and their commanders have fled.” he said

Apparentely,  there is just a matter of time for the rebels until they will take Tripoli.

Pittsburgh flash flooding: four people dead.

Severe storms hit Pittsburgh on Friday, cutting electricity to hospitals and universities and submerging vehicles on the main road, on Allegheny River’s valley and killing four people.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mediu” aliniat=”stanga”]

The severe storm that hit Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Friday cut electricity to hospitals and universities and submerged many vehicles in a flash flood that killed a woman and two children. Another person,  a 70-year-old woman, was disappeared and  found dead Saturday after a search by about 40 rescue workers.

According to officials, along Washington Boulevard, the main road that parallels the Allegheny River in the city’s Highland Park section, water rose up to 9 feet (about 2.7 meters) in some places, making the drivers unable to use their cars.

Severe storms hit Pittsburgh on Friday submerging cars and cutting electricity.

Inflatable boats were used by Pittsburgh’s rescue crews to reach and help drivers, though some swam to safety on their own. Rhodearland “Bob” Bailey of Penn Hills, who is about 80, was rescued from the roof of his car.

“I can swim a little bit and was looking at a tree branch,” Bailey told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

“I heard one woman yelling for help, but the water was coming down so fast, I couldn’t see. … I’ve never seen nothing like this in my life. Lord have mercy.”

Rihaan Gangat, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service said the area received 2.1 inches of rain in an hour (about 53 liters/square meter). But an earlier storm that hit the region came with 3 (about 76 liters/square meter) to 4 (about 102 liters/square meter) inches of rain overall on Friday.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”stanga”] Michael Huss, Pittsburgh public safety director said at a news conference the victims, one woman and two children, identified by the medical examiner as 45-year-old Kimberly Griffith of Plum, 12-year-old Brenna Griffith and 8-year-old Mikaela Griffith , were unable to escape their car, which was completely submerged and pinned to a tree and the rescue crews floated over the car without knowing it was below.

“The bottom of the boat didn’t even scrape against the top of the car,” said Raymond DeMichiei, deputy director of the city Office of Emergency Management.

“A fourth person, a 70-year-old woman, disappeared and was found dead Saturday after a search by about 40 rescue workers” Police Chief Nate Harper said. He declined to identify her or give the circumstances of her death.

Nate Harper said the rescuers found 18 vehicles stranded in the high water and saved 11 people. One woman, who was rescued, required hospitalization.

Flood had receded by evening, but the road remained closed through Saturday, as emergency crews work to clear the mud and all the stranded cars.

Tara Howes, 34, from Gibsonia, told the Tribune-Review that “manhole covers started popping up and it looked like the road exploded and the waters came up really fast. I saw people swimming on the sides of the road. It was pretty scary.”

Pittsburgh flash floods hit a city area that experienced serious flooding last month. The main road, Washington Boulevard, is parallel to the river and situated in a valley. Rushing water from a July 18 storm stranded motorists and caused a section of the road to buckle.

[googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”dreapta”]

Claudia Gallagher, 55, from West Mifflin, was driving north on Washington Boulevard at the height of the rainfall Friday and tried to get off the road as the water rose.

“We tried to drive up onto the curb, but the water had other ideas,” she told the Post-Gazette.

The car began to float, and she opened the window and climbed onto the roof.

“Many other drivers nearby were sitting atop their cars, too,” she said.

Friday morning, another storm cut electricity to University of Pittsburgh, which interrupted activity for the day. Parts of Carlow and Carnegie Mellon Universities also encountered power outages.

“Flights at Pittsburgh International Airport were grounded because of lightning just after 3 p.m.,” spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny said.

Two hospitals worked on emergency power after rains flooded a substation in the city’s Oakland neighborhood.

The “V” means the Virgin Group, the event being sponsored by Virgin Media and broadcasted on 4 Music and Channel 4.

Lenny Kravitz lived two years in a trailer on Bahamas beach.

Lenny Kravitz lived in a trailer for the last two years on the Eleuthera Island, [googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]  in Bahamas, where he was inspired to create his new album “Black and White America.”

Since he was a child, Lenny Kravitz used to change the house place. Therefore, the musician sold his New York house and lives in recreational vehicles, being ready to move wherever and whenever he wants.

Lenny Kravitz, 47, told Female First about his experience living in trailer on the Eleuthera Island, Bahamas, in the last two years. Eleuthera is Lenny’s mother birthplace and he found there the inspiration to create his new tropical album, “Black and White America.”

“I live in a trailer on the beach, low key with a dog, a hammock and a jeep I bought when my first album came out. I wake up at night hearing music, I hear it walking down the road in the trees, so it’s conducive to creativity.”

[googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]Lenny Kravitz, who recently sold his New York house, finds Eleuthera as being the place where he feels “the most at home” and admits living in a trailer is more comfortable than in a house.

“It is the place I feel the most at home. I’ve been there on and off since I was five and lived there the last two years.”

Currently, Lenny’s trailer is parked on the beach in Bahamas.

Lenny Kravitz has a permanent home in Paris, but he chooses to live in the trailer.

Lenny Kravitz- whose father is Jewish – said he grew up feeling good with being mixed race, but was shocked by people’s attitudes when he first launched his music career.

Lenny explained:

“I had a very healthy childhood experience of being bi-racial. But when I first came out in the music industry I was always told I wasn’t black enough or white enough and I didn’t fit a box or category. I found that interesting. “

“But I’m not just one thing, and not many of us are.”

Turkey murders latest news. Recep Cetin charged with stabbing to death his girlfriend’s mother.

Two women from Northern Ireland murdered near Izmir, Turkey.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mare”]Recep Cetin, the 17 year-old Turkish waiter who killed two women from Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland appears in court.

The two women were found stabbed to death by Recep Cetin in a forest, near the city of Izmir, Turkey.

Marion Graham and Kathy Dinsmore, both 54, were persuaded to take a taxi with the 17-year-old boy on the pretext that he wanted them to meet his father.

Recep Cetin asked the taxi driver to drive off the main road and went into a forest where he reportedly slashed their throats and stabbed them repeatedly.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mediu” aliniat=”stanga”] Marion Graham’s daughter Shannon, 15, who is believed to be Recep Cetin’s girlfirend raised the alarm when the women failed to return.

Initially, during police investigation, the Turkish teenager denied any involvement with their disappearance and he was claiming he had suffered a cut hand trying to fight off kidnappers who had bundled the women in a van.

However, the police investigators found bloodstained clothing dumped in a bin near his home and confronted the teenager who eventually admitted he killed the two women.

[youtube Erh4hPSV4tM]

Recep Cetin, who uses the name Alex, admitted he took the women in his father’s car to the forest near Buca, on the outskirts of Izmir, and stabbed them.

He appeared in court on Friday evening in a preliminary hearing.

Shannon’s father, Raymond McGuinness, was due to fly to Turkey on Saturday to bring his daughter home with the bodies of her mother and friend.

Raymond McGuinness said:

“He told Shannon that he had tried to stop the kidnappers and he had a cut on his hand and that’s how he suffered it.”

The two murdered women are from Newry in County Down, Northern Ireland, but were travelling on Irish passports, which is not uncommon.

Marion Graham had rented a house in the famous resort of Kusadasi, 60 miles to the south of Izmir and on the Aegean seaside, and she used to spend long time in there every summer.

Her sister, Monica Higgins, said:

“It’s absolutely devastating. We’ve just found out. My mother’s in the car crying her eyes out.

“We’re trying to work with the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs to find out what exactly happened to her.”

Mrs. Graham’s daughter, Shannon was not with the women when they were attacked being on a boat trip out of Kusadasi for the day.

Shannon has been in a relationship with the Turkish waiter, who had been staying with the group, for 3 years.

[googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]According to some local sources, Recep Cetin had been embarrassed by the attitudes of the British women, who enjoyed late nights and the company of local men. The sources also claimed Marion Graham had married a Kurdish man some time ago, but only four people were living at the house. It was also suggested that Shannon had begun to mix with a bad crowd during this year’s summer trip.

Kathy Dinsmore had been an employee of Newry and Mourne District Council. She also worked in a local cab firm up until last Christmas.

The two women had been regular visitors to Kusadasi for years, staying in an apartment owned by Raymond McGuinness.

[youtube HRzSc95H_DY]

Police is investigating now claims that the Shannon’s mother had refused to allow the young couple to marry, according to Turkish news agency Anatolia.

Waiter’s father and the taxi driver have been also arrested.

An Irish Embassy official was dispatched to support Shannon until her father arrival. She was comforted on Friday by a Kusadasi-based Irish hotelier at the police station in Izmir.

Recep Cetin family’s members have made uncorroborated claims that he has been beaten, subjected to electric shocks and had his fingernails removed by the police.

The Turkish police didn’t make any comment on the incident until now.

Paradise Lost directors commented on West Memphis Three’s release

On Friday, August 19, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Judge David Laser decided to give West Memphis Three ten year suspended sentences, considering the eighteen years already served.

“To see our work culminate in the righting of this tragic miscarriage of justice is more than a filmmaker could ask for,” said Joe Berlinger.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]

Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills” was an award winning documentary in 1996. It raises doubts upon lots of details of the case against Baldwin, Echols and Misskelly. On the Satanism panic of the late 80s and early 90s town’s eccentrical figures were found guilty of murdering three little boys in West Memphis, Arkansas in 1993, despite the fact there were little physical evidence. Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky carried forward their investigation and in 2000 “Paradise Lost 2: Revelations” was aired.

Along with “Paradise Lost” directors other celebrities has shown their support during the time, Eddie Vedder from  Pearl Jam and Johnny Depp were among the first.

Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills

The “Paradise Lost” series express the doubts regarding the validity of the West Memphis Three verdicts. In the same time they were not declared not guilty. In an Alford Plea, a defendant declare onself innocent and simultaneously accepts the ability of the prosecutor to prove the charges with present evidence. In the same time one plead innocent and admit the guilt. This might lead to the new trials.

[googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]

The directors were already working on “Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory,” but with the recent change their third documentary has got a new ending.

“Eighteen years and three films ago, we started this journey to document the terrible murders of three innocent boys and the subsequent circus that followed the arrests and convictions of Baldwin, Echols and Misskelly. To see our work culminate in the righting of this tragic miscarriage of justice is more than a filmmaker could ask for.” Joe Berlinger said in an HBO statement.”

“Today, we, along with HBO, are humbled to be a part of this remarkable outcome” said Bruce Sinofsky.

“Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory” will recapitulate the entire story; from the arrests in 1993 to their release. Paradise Lost 3 will be presented at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2012 and will be broadcasted on HBO in January 2012.

Liam Gallagher sues brother Noel for “telling lies” over Oasis breakup.

Liam Gallagher, former Oasis front-man is suing brother Noel for what he claims are “lies” over the band split in 2009.

[googlead tip=”vertical_mediu” aliniat=”dreapta”] Liam Gallagher, who has re-launched his music career as front-man of Beady Eye, has filed a High Court action against Noel Gallagher’s claim that he pulled out of a 2009 headline performance at V festival due to a “hangover”.

He also has been enraged by Noel’s comments made last month at a press conference – when he was promoting his new solo album – about the band’s split in 2009, which was partly due to an argument over whether Liam could advertise his Pretty Green clothing range in the concert programme.

[googlead tip=”lista_mare” aliniat=”dreapta”]Liam Gallagher demands public apology from his guitarist brother after claimed that he cancelled V festival Oasis performance due to hangover.

He took the extraordinary action because he said he wanted Oasis fans and festival-goers “to know the truth”.

In a today statement, Liam Gallagher confirmed his legal action against his brother Noel Gallagher and said he was looking for an apology to put the record straight about the festival cancellation.

“I have taken legal action against Noel Gallagher for statements he made claiming Oasis pulled out of the 2009 V festival Chelmsford gig because I had a hangover. That is a lie and I want Oasis fans and others who were at V to know the truth.”

“I was gutted when I couldn’t play the gig because I didn’t want to let the fans down.”

Liam Gallagher insisted Noel was aware he had laryngitis, which was diagnosed by a doctor.

“But the truth is I had laryngitis, which Noel was made fully aware of that morning, diagnosed by a doctor.

Noel also falsely stated the demise of Oasis followed a massive row in which he claimed I demanded to advertise my clothing range Pretty Green in the Oasis tour programme.

The truth is there was no such discussion or row between us.

I am used to being called all sorts of things by Noel and I have in the past said things about him. But what Noel has alleged this time went way beyond rock-and-roll banter and questioned my professionalism.

I tried to resolve this amicably but have been left with no choice but legal action. All I want is an apology.”

Noel Gallagher has yet to respond to the suit, although he has expressed regret over Oasis’ split in a recent interview with Absolute Radio.

“We could maybe have [just] all gone off and done other things for a few years,” he said.

“It was a hasty decision … If I had my time again I’d have thought about it a bit more and gone back, done the gig, done the next, there was only two gigs left on the tour.”

“If we had simply agreed to a hiatus, Oasis could have returned to the project in a renewed, relaxed – and even nostalgic – way.”

“In my own head the 2015, 20-year anniversary of (What’s the Story) Morning Glory is looming,” he said.

“We could have maybe come back, made a new album and played that album in its entirety and gone and been the greatest thing ever, but there you go.”

[googlead tip=”vertical_mare” aliniat=”stangaa”] Noel Gallagher broke up with Oasis following a row moments before a festival in Paris in August 2009.

Noel – who also wrote most of the group’s hits – said the Gallaghers’ rocky relationship worsened after Liam demanded free plugs for his clothes brand in the tour programme, which Noel opposed.

He also said Liam pulled out of an appearance at the V Festival in Chelmsford in 2009. At the time it had been explained as a bout of laryngitis, but Noel said the reason for the no-show was his brother’s “hangover”.

The two brothers have had a long-running public spat ever since they found fame in the mid-1990s.

Cancellation of a major festival appearance due to a hangover rather than a medical condition could potentially lead to contractual issues with the organizers.

The possibility of Oasis reunion now looks exceedingly remote.

West Memphis Three released after 18 years

Paradise Lost directors commented on West Memphis Three’s release

[googlead tip=”patrat_mediu” aliniat=”stanga”]The West Memphis Three case, that has turn out to be a wide known cause  for a number of celebrities (American actors along with music artists), went to an intense and surprising final result.

On Friday the three men found guilty of murdering three eight-year-old boys  in 1993 were freed from jail. Their release comes after “Alford plea” that permit them to assert innocence while acknowledging that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict them.

West Memphis Three: Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. and Jason Baldwin in 1993.
West Memphis Three: Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. and Jason Baldwin in 1993.

Damien Echols was sentenced to death while Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were serving life sentences.

Interest in the initial trial focused on Damien Echols, back then 18, who had dressed in black garments, had colored his hair black, had read books on vampires, and listened to heavy-metal music. He was frequently inquired by law enforcement regarding satanism.

[googlead tip=”patrat_mic” aliniat=”dreapta”]

The horrible homicides, that were described as satanic by the law forces, stunned West Memphis, Arkansas. However residual uncertainty whether the West Memphis Three had been responsible led to campaigns feed by stars to have the men liberated.

Those uncertainties has increased last month, when a  report on new DNA data was submitted in Craighead County Circuit Court. It could not link the crimes to the West Memphis Three charged in the murders.[googlead tip=”lista_medie” aliniat=”stanga”]

Two HBO documentaries shot within the the nineteen nineties ( “Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills” won an award), have increased consciousness concerning the case. Metallica has permitted their songs to be utilized in the film. Another documentary will be launched this fall.

The American stars have supported West Memphis Three cause.

Johnny Depp has been an West Memphis Three's supporter

Eddie Vedder from  Pearl Jam and Johnny Depp have grown to be highly effective supporters for Echols, specifically.

Previous year, Eddie Vedder, together with  “Arkansas Take Action”, organized  “Voices for Justice” live concert in Little Rock to raise understanding about the West Memphis Three. Depp made an appearance together with  Patti Smith and Natalie Maines.

“Three innocent people are losing years of their life on a wrongful conviction on a crime they didn’t commit. It makes me scared. It could happen to any of us” said Natalie.

Through the years, Depp and Vedder have donated for  Echols legal fees. Eddie has composed songs in relation to Damien and visited him. Other celebrities have  given souvenirs for auctions to assist the cause.

Internet sites  were meeting places for allies and additional followers.  They written  to the West Memphis Three and also to political figures.

“From beginning to end, this is probably the first national case to play out on the Internet. The Internet was the way to mobilize the troops all over the world. I don’t see how we would be where we are right now without the Internet,” said Lisa Fancher, an activist for the West Memphis Three Fund, on Friday prior to the hearing.
