Get Even treatments from StriVectin fend off menopausal acne and wrinkles

0

Get Even Brightening Serum and Get Even Spot Repair from StriVectin are said to make women over 40 to look more radiant with even-toned skin and less hyperpigmentation.

The two menopausal skin care products claim to provide a solution to mottled, damaged skin, whether caused by the natural ageing process or by the sun.

As well as the mood swings, insomnia and weight gain that women of a certain age have to contend with, the menopause can also play havoc with skin.

Deeper wrinkles, dryness and acne are just some of the problems exacerbated by hormonal changes during this time.

British dermatologist and author Dr. Ellen Marmur said: “Women in their 40s and 50s often ask me how to deal with their skin pigmentation.

“A lifetime of sun damage coupled with hormonal changes brought on by menopause makes these women a prime target for sun spots, age spots and discolouration which can age them even more than wrinkles.”

The Get Even Brightening Serum costs £79 ($125) and is an all-over face serum for mild to moderate dark spots and discolorations. It claims to re-adjust skin tone and diminish excessive pigmentation in four weeks.

Within eight weeks, pigmentation is said to become normal and dark spots visibly fade.

Get Even Spot Repair, at £45 ($71), comes in a twist-pen applicator and targets dark, stubborn spots at the source.

Skin care company StriVectin says its clinically proven product diminishes the appearance of old, new and resistant dark spots. By eight weeks spots are said to visibly lighten.

StriVectin’s Get Even treatment appears to work by slowing down the production of melanin in the skin, regulating the transfer of pigment and improving the overall quality of the cell, as well as increasing cell turnover to reveal higher-quality cells beneath and get rid of dark spots quicker.

However, skin therapy expert Louise Thomas-Minns warned that no cream would solve the underlying problems causing age spots.

Louise Thomas-Minns said: “You need to look at what underlying issue is causing pigmentation, for example whether it is sun exposure or hormonal, as to how you would treat it.

“It is important to protect the skin from daily UV exposure as well as using creams.”

Joyce Banda is the new Malawi president

Joyce Banda has been sworn in as Malawi’s president following the death of Bingu wa Mutharika.

Joyce Banda, who had been Malawi’s Vice-President since 2009, becomes southern Africa’s first female head of state after taking the oath before parliament in the Malawian capital, Lilongwe.

She was cheered and applauded before, during and after the ceremony.

Bingu wa Mutharika, 78, went into cardiac arrest on Thursday, although his death was not confirmed until Saturday.

The delay in announcing his death had prompted fears of a power struggle.

There had been speculation that the late president’s inner circle was trying to circumvent Malawi’s constitution to prevent Joyce Banda from taking over and instead install his brother, Foreign Minister Peter Mutharika.

Joyce Banda has been sworn in as Malawi’s president following the death of Bingu wa Mutharika

Joyce Banda had fallen out with Bingu wa Mutharika in 2010 and became one of his fiercest critics. She was expelled from the ruling Democratic People’s Party (DPP) and formed the People’s Party.

Joyce Banda was elected as vice-president in 2009 and Bingu wa Mutharika had failed in his attempts to have her removed from her post.

In taking the oath of office, Joyce Banda pledged to “defend and preserve the constitution” and to do right to all manner of people, according to law.

She then asked parliament to stand for two minutes’ silence as a tribute to Bingu wa Mutharika.

Asking Malawians to “focus on mourning our father,” Joyce Banda added: “It is with a great sense of humility and honor that I accept the huge responsibility of that the people of Malawi have entrusted me with.”

At present, there are just a handful of MPs in her party but many more are likely to join now that she is president.

On Friday, Information Minister Patricia Kaliati had said Joyce Banda could not take over as head of state because she had gone into opposition. The UK, the US and the EU all called on Malawi to respect its constitution.

Shortly after Bingu wa Mutharika’s death was confirmed, she addressed journalists, flanked by the heads of the army and police, the attorney general and other officials.

She said funeral arrangements would soon be discussed and that 10 days of national mourning would be held.

She also said preparations were being made to bring Bingu wa Mutharika’s body back from South Africa, where he was taken after his cardiac arrest.

Bingu wa Mutharika governed Malawi for eight years, but was recently accused of mismanaging the economy and becoming increasingly autocratic.

He fell out last year with former colonial ruler Britain, which withdrew its direct aid, accusing the Malawian government of mishandling the economy and of failing to uphold human rights.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, with an estimated 75% of the population living on less than $1 a day.

The country has suffered shortages of fuel and foreign currency since the UK and other donors cancelled aid.

Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race halted midway through because of a swimmer

The 158th Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race on River Thames, UK, had to be halted midway through because of a swimmer, with Cambridge winning the restarted race.

The Oxford and Cambridge boats were side by side after 10 minutes and 30 seconds when the sight of a man in the river forced them to stop.

It was decided the two boats would return to Chiswick Bridge to restart.

Cambridge went on to win with ease after Oxford broke an oar in a clash moments after the resumption.

Oxford bow man Alex Woods collapsed in the boat after they crossed the line and he was transferred to the race launch for medical treatment, with the traditional post-race presentation ceremony abandoned.

A closely-fought race had looked to be heading for an exciting finish going into the final bend, only for a man wearing a black wetsuit to swim in front of the boats and narrowly avoid being hit by the oars of the Oxford crew.

Race umpire John Garrett said: “It was totally unbelievable. We are grateful to Matthew [Pinsent] for spotting the swimmer. We thought it was some debris then we realised it was a swimmer.

“I wasn’t sure if he was going to get out of the way in time, it was quite clear he was waiting for the boats to come across him, so I just had to stop the race.”

Reserve umpire Matthew Pinsent added: “It’s not ideal but given those circumstances what could we do? It’s a safety issue. Fortunately we spotted him and stopped the race. We couldn’t possibly have carried on.”

The last time the race had to be restarted was in 2001 when there was a clash of blades.

The two boats headed back to the halfway point and the race restarted after a 31-minute delay, but Oxford’s Dr. Hanno Wienhausen broke his oar in a clash with Cambridge and the contest was effectively over as eight men took on seven.

Oxford had gone into the race as the defending champions, but Cambridge’s victory extended their lead overall in the contest to 81-76.

Free Mass Effect 3 Resurgence DLC pack available on April 10

Mass Effect 3 fans may have to wait before they get the Extended Cut DLC this summer, but that doesn’t mean they will have to wait until three or more months from now to get some new content.

BioWare and EA today announced that Mass Effect 3 will be getting its first significant post-launch DLC pack on April 10 and, much to everyone’s surprise, said DLC will be made available to Mass Effect 3 players at “no extra charge.”

Mass Effect 3‘s first post-release DLC won’t add on to the story, however. Resurgence, as the DLC is called, instead adds in a whole bunch of new multiplayer goodies, including new characters, new weapons, and even two all-new maps.

Considering how much content is available in Mass Effect 3‘s Resurgence DLC, it’s at least a bit surprising that EA is willing to hand it out for free. The DLC adds in the Batarian and Geth races–both have two classes to choose from–and the “Firebase Hydra” and “Firebase Condor” maps.

Amanda Bynes arrested on suspicion of DUI in West Hollywood

Amanda Bynes was arrested on Friday at 3 a.m. on suspicion of DUI after she allegedly hit a sheriff’s cruiser while attempting to pass in her black BMW.

After being arrested near the intersection of Robertson and Santa Monica boulevards in West Hollywood, Amanda Bynes spent several hours locked in jail before her $5,000 bail was posted.

The former Nickelodeon star was then seen walking, clothed in the same scandalous outfit she was wearing when she allegedly crashed into a cop’s car, to the tow yard at which the black BMW she was driving was impounded.

The young actress, who was named one of Teen People’s “25 Hottest Stars Under 25″ back in 2006 and again in 2007, was listed as the fifth highest paid celebrity under the age of 21 as her earnings were reportedly $2.5 million at the time.

Amanda Bynes is well known for her roles in the hit television series The Amanda Show and All That, both of which were popular Nickelodeon shows in the 1990s and early 2000s.

This isn’t the first time Amanda Bynes has found herself in trouble with the law as she was allegedly pulled over just last month for talking on her cellular phone while behind the wheel. While the officer was busy writing her a ticket, she decided it would be an excellent opportunity to simply drive away. After the incident, she did make a personal appearance at the police station in order to sign the traffic ticket. At this time, there have been no additional charges filed stemming from the incident.

Amanda Bynes is currently out on bail and back on the road after what was quite possibly one of the most disastrous nights of her life.

Thomas Kinkade, the Painter of Light, died at 54

Thomas Kinkade, the Painter of Light, one of America’s most popular artist, died from what appear to have been natural causes at 54.

Nanette, the recently widowed wife of Thomas Kinkade, released a statement from the family which said: “Thom[-as Kinkade] provided a wonderful life for his family. We are shocked and saddened by his death.”

Paintings by Thomas Kinkade range in price from hundreds of dollars to well over $10,000. Media Arts Group, his private company, took in $32 million per quarter 10 years ago.

Thomas Kinkade was a devoted Christian well known for his incredible ability to paint light. Painting light wasn’t the only reason he was as incredibly successful as he was. One of the most important reasons he was able to achieve financial success in the art world during his lifetime was the fact that his artistic philosophy was to give the masses what they wanted, as opposed to using the canvas to express himself.

Ken Raasch, an old friend and co-founder of Kinkade’s Media Arts Group, was quoted by the Mercury News conveying his recently passed away friend’s unique perspective of the world:

“I’d see a tree as being green, and he would see it as 47 different shades of green. He just saw the world in a much more detailed way than anyone I’ve ever seen.”

Thomas Kinkade leaves behind his wife, Nanette, and four daughters.

Not only was Thomas Kinkade a successful painter, he was also a writer who achieved notoriety amongst the world of literature when his books hit the New York Times Best Seller list with his works The Artist’s Guide to Sketching and Masterworks of Light.

While the “warrior for light” Thomas Kinkade has died, his art will continue to live on far beyond his own untimely death. As the Painter of Light himself once said: “Art is forever.”

World’s smallest dog 2012: Milly the Puerto Rican chihuahua

Tiny Puerto Rican chihuahua Milly is on the verge of something big, being officially recognized as the smallest puppy in the world.

The current record holder is Boo Boo, another chihuahua from Kentucky, but Milly, who lives with her Argentine owners in the north east Puerto Rican town of Vega Alta, hopes to punch above her 170 g weight to earn her place in the Guinness Book of Records.

After she was born three months ago the family believed that Milly would grow, but having maintained the same height of just 6.53 cm for three weeks they began to think that the pedigree pup might be able to knock Boo Boo from the top dog spot that she has held since February 2008.

Measuring in at 10.16 cm Boo Boo towers over the new pretender to the throne and miniscule Milly’s carer Rivera Eizzal believes her pedigree puppy has got it in the (doggy) bag.

Rivera Eizzal, said: “Milly was so small she could not breastfeed due to the tiny size of her mouth.

“To get an idea of just how petite she is, when she was first born she received milk from an eyedropper.”

Milly is constantly accompanied by Rivera Eizzil or by her owner, Argentinian Vanessa Semler, who is dedicated to rearing chihuahuas in Puerto Rico.

Vanessa Semler says caring for Milly takes effort, but explains that she and her husband, Edwin Davila, have no children so they have the time to focus their energies on their pet project.

A judge from the Guinness Book of Records is due to travel to Puerto Rico in the coming months to clarify Milly’s size and measurements which will then be sent from the island to be officially confirmed.

Chihuahuas originated from the state of Mexico that carries same name and they usually reach a height of between 15 cm and 25 cm.

Boo Boo is a long-haired, female chihuahua who is owned by Lana Elswick of Raceland, Kentucky.

Whitney Houston’s funeral policing bill of $187,000 covered by Newark taxpayers

Newark residents will have to cover the cost of Whitney’s Houston’s four-hour funeral policing in amount of $187,000.

It was a touching farewell watched by millions across the world, but it is the residents of Whitney Houston’s hometown Newark, New Jersey, who will be covering the high security costs.

Taxpayers will have to foot the $187,000 bill in police overtime, which amounts to 5% of the city’s $4 million annual budget.

Whitney Houston’s family brought the singer back to Newark, where thousands of people lined the streets to pay their respects and celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey attended the service.

Nearly 200 police officers were stationed at the New Baptist Church, the funeral home and a family gathering at the Newark Club afterwards, reports CBS2.

In Westfield, where Whitney Houston was buried in a private ceremony, $9,000 was spent in police overtime, according to the overtime figures released to CBS2.

A Newark official said that the cost was unavoidable to ensure public safety.

“I was able to be witness to the thousands upon thousands of people who were desperate to attend service but held back by barriers and officers of the law.

“If they had not been there someone may have been trampled, seriously hurt,” Democratic Councilwoman Mildred Crump told CBS2.

However, some residents say that although they adored Whitney Houston they are unhappy about having to fork out for the costs, especially as the public were not allowed anywhere near it reports BCS2.

“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous when you have people who are unemployed and homeless, people walking up and down the streets,” Newark resident Quincy Ruffin said in the report.

Quincy Ruffin told CBS2 that Whitney Houston’s family should be responsible for covering the costs.

“If they wanted it to go that far, do that much, they should have been the ones providing for it.”

Whitney Houston, 48, was found dead in the bathroom of her room at the Beverly Hilton hotel on February 11.

According to a final autopsy report released this week, Whitney Houston had cocaine throughout her system and detectives found white powdery substances and a spoon with white residue in the room.

Dennis Hennis survives with a 4-inch nail into his heart

Dennis Hennis from New Jersey is making a quick recovery after accidentally shooting a 4-inch (10 cm) nail into his heart.

Dennis Hennis, a 52-year-old self-employed builder, was working on his neighbor’s roof when his nail gun jammed and he tried to clear it.

The nail pierced the right side of his heart and he went into cardiac arrest.

His surgeon credited Dennis Hennis’ recovery to prompt medical attention and knowing that he should not remove the nail himself.

Dennis Hennis told Dr. Michael Rosenbloom that it felt like he had won the lottery.

“I got a new grandson on my birthday on March 23 and a week later I’m almost dead,” Dennis Hennis said.

“Now we can celebrate birthdays together.”

Dennis Hennis was airlifted to trauma centre an hour away in Camden, New Jersey, and went under immediate surgery.

“Imagine there is a nail in the heart and they have to do CPR,” Dr. Michael Rosenbloom said.

“It turns a little puncture wound into a laceration.”

Dennis Hennis expects to be discharged in time to celebrate Easter with his family.

Mali coup leaders agreed to stand down as part of a deal struck with regional bloc Ecowas

Malian coup leaders have agreed to stand down and allow a transition to civilian rule, as part of a deal struck with regional bloc Ecowas.

In return, the bloc will lift trade and economic sanctions and grant amnesty to the ruling junta, mediators said.

The move came after Tuareg rebels in the north declared independence of territory they call Azawad.

The rebels seized the area after a coup two weeks ago plunged the West African nation into political crisis.

Under the terms of transition plan, military rulers will cede power to the parliamentary speaker, Diouncounda Traore, who as interim president will oversee a timetable for elections.

Once sworn in, Diouncounda Traore would have 40 days to organize elections, the five-page agreement says.

The deal, signed by coup leader Captain Amadou Sanogo, states that Ecowas prepare for the ending of sanctions, but did not name a date for him to hand over power.

“It will be necessary to organise a political transition leading to free, democratic and transparent elections across the whole of the territory,” it states.

Officers led by Captain Amadou Sanogo seized power on 22 March, accusing the elected government of not doing enough to halt the rebellion in the north

Officers led by Captain Amadou Sanogo seized power on 22 March, accusing the elected government of not doing enough to halt the rebellion in the north.

Earlier, international bodies rejected a call from Tuareg rebels for their newly named region of Azawad to be recognized as independent.

The secular National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) is one of two main groups fighting a rebellion in the north.

Ansar Dine, an Islamist group, has also made gains and has started to impose Sharia law in some towns.

Rights group Amnesty International has warned of a major humanitarian disaster in the wake of the rebellion.

Ecowas is preparing a force of up to 3,000 soldiers which could be deployed to stop the rebel advance.

France’s Defence Minister, Gerard Longuet, said France could provide assistance to the force, including transport, Reuters news agency reports.

The Tuareg people inhabit the Sahara Desert in northern Mali, as well as several neighboring countries and have fought several rebellions over the years.

They complain that they have been ignored by the authorities in the capital, Bamako.

Reese Witherspoon reveals her baby bump while enjoying holiday to Costa Rica with her family

Reese Witherspoon is yet to confirm reports that she is pregnant, but she seems to be letting her bump do the talking.

Reese Witherspoon, 36, revealed her baby bump when she was spotted enjoyed a sun-soaked holiday to Costa Rica with her family.

The actress wore a black one-piece as she enjoyed some time at the beach today and the swimwear showed off a visibly protruding stomach.

Although Reese Witherspoon has so far kept mum on her pregnancy the star sported a knowing smile when she realized she had been spotted by cameras.

She kept her face covered up with a pair of large sunglasses an orange baseball cap, which shielded her skin from the sun’s rays.

Reese Witherspoon later changed into a halterneck swimming costume with a plunging neckline to splash in the turquoise waters.

The whole family was seen making the most of the sunshine during their stay and even hired a pedalo to head out to sea.

Reese Witherspoon, her husband Jim Toth, 41, and children Deacon, eight, and Ava, 12, all wore blue life jackets.

The children sat at the front of the orange boat while Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth held up the rear.

If reports are true, Reese witherspoon is probably getting to grips with being pregnant again after a hiatus of eight years.

Her son Deacon could also have to get used to not being the baby of the family any more.

But that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

“Deacon and older sister Ava, 12, will love having a baby brother or sister,” a source told Us Weekly of Reese Witherspoon’s children with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

Although Reese Witherspoon’s husband of one year took him some time to warm up to the idea of first-time fatherhood, the source explains.

“Before Jim met Reese, he wasn’t sure about having kids,” the source told Us Weekly of the CAA agent.

“Being around her kids has really shown him what it’s all about.”

Malawi confirms President Bingu wa Mutharika’s death and declares 10 days of national mourning

Malawian government has confirmed that President Bingu wa Mutharika has died, aged 78.

Bingu wa Mutharika suffered a cardiac arrest on Thursday and state media said he had been flown to South Africa.

Medical and government officials said on Friday that he was dead but there was no formal announcement, leading to fears of a power-struggle.

A government official said on state radio that there would be 10 days of national mourning. “We are sad to announce that the President of Malawi, Bingu wa Mutharika, has died,” Bright Msaka, secretary to the president and cabinet, said in a statement carried by state radio, AFP news agency reported.

“The Milpark Hospital in South Africa has also confirmed his death,” Bright Msaka said.

“There will be 10 days of national mourning, and the constitution will be adhered to in managing the transition.”

The delay in announcing Bingu wa Mutharika’s death had sparked speculation that the president’s allies might try to prevent the vice-president from taking over, as stipulated by the constitution.

Vice-President Joyce Banda fell out with Bingu wa Mutharika in 2010 over the succession and she was expelled from the ruling Democratic People’s Party (DPP).

The president’s brother, Foreign Minister Peter Mutharika, was lined up to be the DPP’s presidential candidate in the 2014 elections.

Both the UK and the US have called on Malawi to respect the constitution.

Bingu Mutharika governed Malawi for eight years, but was recently accused of mismanaging the economy and becoming increasingly autocratic.

Heidi Klum has legally filed divorce from Seal

German supermodel Heidi Klum has finally taken the step of legally filing for divorce from singer Seal.

Heidi Klum cites “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce petition, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, according to TMZ.

According to the documents filed by Heidi Klum’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, the couple signed a post-nuptial agreement.

This means they made an agreement after they got married to keep their assets completely separate.

And so there is no community property to be divided, according to sources.

Heidi Klum is asking for joint legal custody of their four children, but she wants primary physical custody.

The supermodel is also asking the judge to restore her maiden name that would be Klum, although she always used it professionally.

Heidi Klum, who is the wealthier of the pair, is asking the judge to reject any claim for spousal support from Seal, and not making such demands herself.

And she also makes it clear that she wants Seal to pay his own lawyer’s fees.

Heidi Klum parted ways from Seal after almost seven years of marriage.

They have four children, Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and two-year-old Lou, together.

Following the split, Seal admitted he was keen to continue to wear his wedding ring as a “token” of how he feels about Heidi Klum and he had “no intention” of removing the band anytime soon.

Seal recently said: “I think it’s just pretty much a token of how I feel about this woman. We have eight years. Eight wonderful years together.

“Just because we have decided to separate doesn’t necessarily mean you take off your ring and you’re no longer connected to that person.

“Will we wear the ring for the rest of our lives? Who knows? But right now it feels really comfortable on my hand so I have intentions of taking it off anytime soon.”

Pakistan: more than 100 troops buried by an avalanche in Kashmir region

More than 100 Pakistani soldiers have been buried by an avalanche in the disputed Kashmir region, officials say.

Local TV stations say that the incident happened near the Siachen glacier in the eastern Karakoram mountain range.

130 troops were buried when a battalion headquarters in the Gayari district was engulfed, says the AP news agency, quoting a security official.

The area is in the northern tip of the divided Kashmir region which is claimed by both India and Pakistan.

Pakistan army spokesman Major General Athar Abbas told the AFP news agency that at least 100 soldiers were missing, and that a rescue operation had begun.

Five people arrested in China after a teenager sold his kidney for an iPad

A group of five persons has been arrested in southern China after a 17-year-old student sold his kidney so he could buy an iPhone and iPad, state media have reported.

The five people detained include the surgeon who removed the kidney from the boy in April 2011.

State-run Xinhua news agency says the group received 220,000 yuan (around $35,000) for the transplant.

The student is said to be suffering renal failure, according to prosecutors in Hunan province quoted by Xinhua.

Only identified by his surname Wang, the student is said to have received 22,000 yuan (about $3,000) for his kidney and the rest was split between the defendants and other medical staff .

A group of five persons has been arrested in southern China after a 17-year-old student sold his kidney so he could buy an iPhone and iPad

The teenager was reportedly recruited for the illegal trade through an online chatroom.

The case was discovered when his mother noticed the new gadgets; when asked where he got the money, he admitted selling a kidney.

The teen was from Anhui, one of China’s poorest provinces, where inhabitants frequently leave to find work and a better life elsewhere.

The group behind the operation has been charged with causing intentional injury and illegal organ trading.

While Apple iPhones and iPads are very popular in China, they are priced beyond the reach of many urban workers.

And there is a constant shortage of organ donors.

Official figures from the health ministry show that about 1.5 million people need transplants, but only 10,000 are performed annually.

Executed prisoners have been often used as a source of organs, but last month China vowed to phase this out over the next five years.

Virginia Beach Navy F-18 fighter jet crash UPDATE

A US Navy F-18 fighter jet has crashed into an apartment complex in the suburbs of Virginia Beach, Virginia, the Navy confirmed.

The fighter jet slammed into condos, town houses, and a retirement community, according to witnesses.

The two crew members ejected from the jet and were taken to a nearby hospital, but it is not yet known if there are any civilian casualties.

News footage showed smoke rising from numerous homes and the flaming wreckage lying on the ground.

The jet, confirmed to be a Delta two-seat model, apparently crashed at the Mayfield Mews apartment complex.

The Navy said in a news release that the jet was an F/A-18D assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 106 based at Naval Air Station Oceana.

The military organization said that the jet crashed shortly after takeoff at a site near the base at about 12:05 p.m. Both aviators ejected safely but were taken to a local hospital for observation.

Virginia Beach resident George Pilkington witnessed the crash, and told CNN the timeline of events, describing a few large explosions after the initial crash.

George Pilkington said: “It was emptying out fuel and the tail end was down. They (the crew members) must have ejected before they came down.”

He also said the engine sounded like it was “straining and stressing”.

Overhead helicopter video from WAVY-TV showed fire crews in the apartment complex with large ladders spraying water on multiple smoking buildings, one of which has part of its roof torn off.

Robert Matthias, assistant to Virginia Beach’s city manager, told The Associated Press crews are at the scene of an apartment complex where the jet crashed in what he described as a courtyard.

“So far, they haven’t found any casualties,” Robert Matthias said.

He described the area as residential, calling it an “anywhere but here” situation. While planes fly over the Virginia Beach area frequently, the F-18 crashed into a heavily residential area.

George Pilkington said that emergency crews responded in minutes to the crash.

Black smoke and flames were seen billowing out of what appeared to be a housing complex.

PilotOnline.com quoted a spokesman for Naval Air Force Atlantic who said the F/A-18 Hornet crashed Friday in the vicinity of Birdneck Road.

Another witness said that when the pilot came down he was still strapped to his ejector seat and had to be pulled out of the wreckage – when he immediately said sorry for the crash.

Retired Virginia Beach rescuer Pat Kavanaugh told CNN: “He apologized very much for hitting out complex and I told him: <<Don’t worry about it, everything’s going to be fine>>.

“I checked him over, did a body survey, he was in shock, still strapped to his seat so we picked him up, dragged him to the other side of the parking lot away from the fire.

“He had something on the lower half of his body, something heavy.

“I knew we have gas in the buildings, so I didn’t know if there were going to be secondary explosions.”

Naval Air Force Atlantic spokesperson Cmdr. Phil Rosi told the website that both aviators safely ejected from the plane.

The jet belongs to VFA’s Strike Fighter Squadron 106 – a training division for student pilots. Because of the crash, Virginia State police have shut down Interstate 264 in both directions.

Kim Kardashian quizzed over her relationship with Kanye West on Today show

Kim Kardashian was asked about her relationship with rapper Kanye West on the Today show this morning.

While the reality star didn’t openly declare her love – she didn’t deny it either.

Asked by host Ann Curry if the “Kimye” romance was true, Kim Kardashian giggled: “Kanye and I have been friends for years,” before adding: “…so, I love the song,” in reference to Kanye West’s new track Theraflu, in which he sings how he fell in love with her.

In another sign Kim Kardashian was ready to move on following her failed marriage to Kris Humphries – which lasted just 72 days, she said defiantly: “I’m really ready to close that chapter. I have closed that chapter.

“You never know what the future holds or where my life will take me.”

On Wednesday night, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were spotted leaving the movies in New York after watching the new hit film The Hunger Games.

And yesterday Kim Kardashian was spotted leaving Kanye West’s NYC apartment – tellingly in the same clothes she wore the night before.

Kim Kardashian giggled as Ann Curry asked her today about the date, but would only say she found the film “interesting”.

She was well groomed for her appearance, slipping into a form-fitting turquoise dress and black heels.

Kim Kardashian also posed for a picture with rapper Nicki Minaj who was also appearing on the U.S. breakfast show.

Nicki Minaj – who collaborated with Kanye West on the track Monster – tweeted the accompanying message: “SHE’S WITH ME NOW! MOVE BACK BUGS!!!! AHHAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!!!”

After her TV interview, Kim Kardashian made an outfit change into black trousers and white T-shift emblazoned with a leopard as she stalked through JFK Airport where she was expected to board a flight to Los Angeles.

Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon are headed to Mexico for Easter weekend

Bobbi Kristina Brown and her controversial fiancé Nick Gordon are headed to Mexico for an Easter weekend vacation, reports Forbes.

Joining the two will be Whitney Houston’s brother Gary and his wife Pat, who controls the late singer’s estate.

An insider told Forbes that right after Whitney Houston died, Nick Gordon, 22, tried to convince Bobbi Kristina Brown, 19, to sign over her power of attorney to him.

“Luckily, it was stopped,” says the source.

“But Nick Gordon definitely wants his hands on Bobbi Kristina’s money.”

Whitney Houston’s family reportedly held a failed intervention for Bobbi Kristina Brown regarding her smoking, drinking and use of prescription pills.

Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon are already engaged and living together, and marriage may just be their next step.

Bobbi Kristina’s grandmother Cissy Houston is less than thrilled with their relationship, and has even called it “incest.”

More than half a million Apple computers infected with Flashback Trojan

Dr. Web, a Russian anti-virus firm, has reported that more than half a million Apple computers have been infected with the Flashback Trojan.

The report claims that about 600,000 Macs have installed the malware – potentially allowing them to be hijacked and used as a “botnet”.

Dr. Web says that more than half that number are based in the US.

Apple has released a security update, but users who have not installed the patch remain exposed.

Flashback Trojan was first detected last September when anti-virus researchers flagged up software masquerading itself as a Flash Player update. Once downloaded it deactivated some of the computer’s security software.

Later versions of the malware exploited weaknesses in the Java programming language to allow the code to be installed from bogus sites without the user’s permission.

Dr. Web said that once the Trojan was installed it sent a message to the intruder’s control server with a unique ID to identify the infected machine.

“By introducing the code criminals are potentially able to control the machine,” said the firm’s chief executive Boris Sharov.

“We stress the word potential as we have never seen any malicious activity since we hijacked the botnet to take it out of criminals’ hands. However, we know people create viruses to get money.

“The largest amounts of bots – based on the IP addresses we identified – are in the US, Canada, UK and Australia, so it appears to have targeted English-speaking people.”

Dr. Web also notes that 274 of the infected computers it detected appeared to be located in Cupertino, California – home to Apple’s headquarters.

Java’s developer, Oracle, issued a fix to the vulnerability on 14 February, but this did not work on Macintoshes as Apple manages Java updates to its computers.

Apple released its own “security update” on Wednesday – more than eight weeks later. It can be triggered by clicking on the software update icon in the computer’s system preferences panel.

The security firm F-Secure has also posted detailed instructions about how to confirm if a machine is infected and how to remove the Trojan.

Although Apple’s system software limits the actions its computers can take without requesting their users’ permission, some security analysts suggest this latest incident highlights the fact that the machines are not invulnerable.

“People used to say that Apple computers, unlike Windows PCs, can’t ever be infected – but it’s a myth,” said Timur Tsoriev, an analyst at Kaspersky Lab.

Apple could not provide a statement at this time.

Olympics 2012: doping tests may have to be tightened as green tea could help cheats

Scientists discovered that green tea can help mask the levels of testosterone in the body.

The study found extracts contained in the beverage, reduced concentrations of the hormone by up to 30%.

Olympic doping officials have now raised concerns that athletes could use tea to hide increased levels of testosterone from standard drugs tests.

Testosterone is one of the oldest illegal steroids used in sports, and it is commonly used to build muscle.

Experts say athletes taking testosterone for doping purposes typically have 200 to 300% more in their bodies than normal.

During the study, researchers added green and white tea extracts – or catechins – to the hormone and discovered that they reduced the concentration by almost a third.

The recent anomaly could now lead to a change in the tests ahead of London Olympics 2012.

Olivier Rabin, scientific director of the World Anti-Doping Agency, or WADA said: “It’s interesting that something as common as tea could have a significant influence on the steroid profile.

“We may need to adjust our steroid (test) to allow us to exclude whether a test is modified by food or training or disease, before we can say that it’s doping.”

The study was conducted in a laboratory so scientists said it was too early to tell what the effect of green tea might be in humans, but similar results have been found in rodent studies.

Other foods and beverages, such as alcohol, are also known to muddle test results and WADA has tight controls on other commonly consumed substances like caffeine.

“There’s no reason to think we just happened to pick the only food in the world that does this,” said Declan Naughton of Kingston University, who published the findings in the journal, Steroids.

Charles Yesalis, a doping expert at Pennsylvania State University, said officials needed to react quickly.

“Athletes will not wait for the clinical trials,” Charles Yesalis said.

“I’ll bet there are already lots of athletes out there drinking loads of green tea,” he added.

However, some experts said the limited effects of foods like green tea on masking illegal drug use would be too small to help doping athletes.

“You would probably need to drink the tea continuously to get any sustained but minor effect,” said Andrew Kicman, head of research and development at the Drug Control Centre at King’s College London, which is providing the anti-doping laboratory for the upcoming Olympics.

“It would be a very foolish athlete who’s thinking of doping with testosterone and thinks he could drink white or green tea to beat a drug test,” he said.

“And I personally wouldn’t want to drink nine cups of tea on the day of a race.”

Jennifer Lopez and boyfriend Casper Smart in her new Dance Again video

Jennifer Lopez’s toy boy boyfriend Casper Smart couldn’t resist grabbing his girlfriend’s rear end several times in her new Dance Again video.

The scantily clad couple was positively smouldering in several sexy scenes for the full video version of the song, which debuted on American Idol tonight.

While introducing the video, American Idol host Ryan Secrest took the chance to quiz Jennifer Lopez on her relationship with 24-year-old Casper Smart.

“Is there any special chemistry with you and any of the dancers?” Ryan Secrest asked, much to J Lo’s obvious embarrassment.

J Lo swiftly changed the subject, saying: “It’s fun and dancy and full of joy.”

The video sees Jennifer Lopez, 42, strut around in a strapless black basque and heels while a shirtless Casper Smart dances an intimate number with his girlfriend.

And the couple couldn’t seem to keep their hands off each other as they cavorted in several scenes together.

The steamy video also features Jennifer Lopez crawling over a menagerie of scantily clad models in a room and dancing enthusiastically with Casper Smart while covered in gold glitter.

Casper Smart appears shirtless throughout the video, showing off his large number of tattoos on his muscular torso.

At one point, the couple look to be recreating the famous upside down Spider-Man kiss with Jennifer Lopez sporting a low cut top and a shirtless Casper Smart leaning in for the clinch.

Other shots show Jennifer Lopez sporting beachy tousled hair and subtle make-up while smouldering at the camera as she lip syncs to the catchy number.

The diva wears very little clothing as she cavorts in what appears to be wet sand, while another shows her swishing her hair and dancing wildly.

Casper Smart follows in the footsteps of J Lo’s ex boyfriend Ben Affleck who famously appeared in her 2002 video for Jenny from the Block.

Mirlande Wilson claims now she lost the winning Mega Millions ticket

Maryland McDonald’s worker Mirlande Wilson said on Wednesday she put the winning Mega Millions ticket in a place no one else would find it.

Now, Mirlande Wilson from Baltimore has revealed she cannot find the ticket with the winning numbers on it which could snag her a $105 million prize.

The mother-of-seven said she has lost the ticket but isn’t very worried about finding it any time soon.

Mirlande Wilson, 37, told the New York Post: “I have no idea where it is. I’m not sure I have it. I’m still looking for it. I haven’t even looked in my uniform pants yet.

“I’m still looking everywhere to find it, in my purse, everywhere.”

She old the paper earlier this week that she hid the ticket at the McDonald’s restaurant she worked at, even though she is claiming she bought the ticket with her own money and not through the work pool, much to the chagrin of her coworkers.

Mirlande Wilson’s daughter Stephanie also revealed that her mother would not even allow them to look for the ticket.

“I wanted to look for it, I was crying. She wouldn’t let us. It’s a lot of money,” the 15-year-old said.

Since the Mega Millions draw last Friday, the Haitian immigrant has dominated the headlines as she came forward to say she had one of the three winning tickets.

But Mirlande Wilson refused to share the jackpot with her McDonald’s coworkers and said she bought the winning ticket with a lucky dollar she found on the ground.

She then went on to say it was in a safe place at an undisclosed location before saying it was at the fast food restaurant she worked in at Milford Mill. Now she claims she lost it.

Mirlande Wilson is leaving the discovery of the ticket in the hands of God: “It’s a blessing from God. If it’s meant to be, we’ll [find and] claim the ticket.”

But her coworkers aren’t so sure she’s telling the truth.

Another colleague told the Post: “I don’t believe her. I didn’t believe her from the beginning, she’s always been strange.

“She’s an attention seeker. She likes to have all the attention on herself.”

On her Facebook page, Mirlande Wilson has pledged to donate all of the winnings to rebuild her earthquake-ravaged native Haiti.

She wrote: “All my true friend know im not greedy a person [sic] i don’t want da money it made my life a living hell already im gonna give it all to rebuild haiti yall [sic] can chase all want my life and, my children it more important for money [sic].”

Mirlande Wilson held her own news conference last night where a lawyer pleaded that his client “be allowed to return to a normal life”, according to Wsbt.com.

Lawyer Edward Smith Jr. asked the media to leave his client alone. Mirlande Wilson said little, only confirming that she is originally from Haiti.

The attorney said the attention had caused his client’s blood pressure to spike. He said he was hired to protect her in case she was sued.

Alcoholic blackouts are not caused by brain cells being killed, found a new study

It was often said that alcohol killing off brain cells is behind the blackouts, but according to a new study what’s actually happening is that booze is preventing new memories being recorded in the first place.

Yukitoshi Izumi, research professor of psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, said: “We’ve found that exposure to alcohol inhibits some receptors and later activates others, causing neurons to manufacture steroids that inhibit memory formation.”

The brain cells affected by alcohol are found in the hippocampus and other brain structures involved in advanced cognitive functions.

Yukitoshi Izumi studied slices of the hippocampus from the rat brain.

When he treated hippocampal cells with moderate amounts of alcohol, the key areas for memory formation were unaffected, but exposing the cells to large amounts of alcohol inhibited the memory formation mechanism.

“It takes a lot of alcohol to block memory,” said senior investigator Charles F. Zorumski.

“But the mechanism isn’t straightforward. The alcohol triggers receptors to behave in seemingly contradictory ways, and that’s what actually blocks the neural signals that create memories. It also may explain why individuals who get highly intoxicated don’t remember what they did the night before.”

Neurons in the hippocampus exposed to large amounts of alcohol produce steroids, which inhibit the formation of memory (left), vs. normal neurons (right)
Neurons in the hippocampus exposed to large amounts of alcohol produce steroids, which inhibit the formation of memory (left), vs. normal neurons (right)

The study is echoed by the work of researchers at the University of California, San Diego, who found that some people are actually more prone to blackouts than others.

“Our study’s findings suggest that some people are more likely to experience alcohol-induced blackouts than others due to the way alcohol affects brain activity in areas involved in self-monitoring, attention, and working memory,” said lead author Reagan R. Wetherill.

“Some people may be more vulnerable to alcohol’s effects than others. In other words, just because your friend may be able to drink a certain number of drinks and appear to be functioning fine, it does not mean that you or everyone else can.”

“Blackouts”, where very heavy drinkers wake up and are unable to remember anything that happened, are quite rare, says Reagan R. Weatherill – but their cousin, the “brown out”, where details vanish, is much more common.

The study – using 24 students, 12 of whom suffered “brown outs” while drinking, and 12 who did not, challenged the students to complete memory exercises both while drunk and while sober.

The study found that the students had similar abilities to remember and to multi-task while sober – but alcohol acted as a “magic switch” for some which stopped them remembering.

It suggests there is a biochemical trigger for some people to forget what happens while drinking.

“Through use of imaging technology, this study has made the really intriguing finding that the unique patterns of blood flow and neural activity seen in persons prone to experience those amnestic phenomena emerged only after they became intoxicated,” she said.

“That finding, taken together with results from prior research on fragmentary blackouts, suggests there are individual differences in how alcohol impacts memory.”

“Alcohol intoxication reduced activity in a brain region involved in <<multitasking>>,” said Reagan R. Wetherill.

“Thus, alcohol appears to affect a person’s ability to multitask, and also affects some people’s ability to engage brain areas required for encoding and remembering previous experiences.”

“Irrespective of the specific type of alcohol-related memory loss involved, if one is experiencing blackouts it is an important signal that negative personal and health consequences are more likely to occur.

“Not fully recalling one’s life experiences, particularly those that occur while one is intoxicated, creates a state of vulnerability where the chances increase for the individual to incur all kinds of problems.”

Kim Kardashian left Kanye West’s apartment in the morning after an evening date

Kim Kardashian has enjoyed a long date the night before and then a full day out with rumored new beau Kanye West yesterday.

Kim Kardashian, 31, who is known to change her outfits regularly throughout the day, was still in the same leather trousers she has worn for the past 24 hours.

The move speaks volumes about how comfortable Kim Kardashian feels around the rapper, who she has hardly been apart from since touching down in New York Wednesday.

Kim Kardashian looked slightly weary and her face was a little on the sweaty side after her quick slap and dash make-up application yesterday in the morning.

Thursday morning Kim Kardashian was seen sneaking out of Kanye West’s apartment after staying over following an evening date.

And it seemed that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West could not bear to be apart – having enjoyed their second date during the day yesterday.

The reality star had her same leather trousers on that she was wearing to last night’s cinema date and the ones she was seen leaving Kanye West’s home in the morning.
