Antonio Ledezma: Venezuela indicts Caracas mayor for coup plot

Venezuela has indicted Caracas Mayor Antonio Ledezma for plotting violence against the government – a move strongly condemned by the country’s opposition.

The attorney general’s office said Antonio Ledezma, 59, would remain in a military prison pending his trial.

President Nicolas Maduro earlier accused the opposition mayor of being involved in a US-backed coup.

This comes on the anniversary of the start of protests against Nicolas Maduro’s rule that left dozens of people dead.

On February 20, opponents of President Nicolas Maduro again protested in Caracas against what they described as a crackdown on his political opponents.

The US has also denounced the “systemic intimidation” by the Venezuelan authorities of the country’s opposition.

State department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said: “Venezuela’s problems cannot be solved by criminalizing legitimate, democratic dissent.”Caracas Mayor Antonio Ledezma indicted

The attorney general’s office said on February 20 that Antonio Ledezma was charged with conspiracy to plot violence against the government.

This came a day after camouflaged police smashed into the mayor’s office in the banking district and carried him away.

President Nicolas Maduro has said the opposition leader must answer “for all the crimes committed against the country’s peace and security”.

Venezuela’s opposition is now demanding the authorities produce any evidence of the alleged conspiracy.

Opposition leader Henrique Capriles asked: “Does Maduro think that putting everyone in prison is going to get him 50 popularity points or that he’s going to win elections?”

Antonio Ledezma was on a list of people and foreign powers named by Nicolas Maduro last week as attempting to bring down his administration.

Antonio Ledezma, Caracas mayor since 2008, replied that it was government corruption that was bringing down Venezuela.

Last year, weeks of anti-government protests in Venezuela led to more than 40 deaths.

Venezuela’s economy has been heavily affected by the drop in oil prices and in late January, thousands of people joined an opposition march in Caracas.

Venezuelans voiced dissatisfaction with high inflation, crime and the shortage of many staple goods in the shops.

Excessive Force Needs Educated Action

0

Recent events that have become the center of our 24 hour news cycle are drawing increasing attention to the subject of police brutality in our society. It is an issue that has been met with unrest by many. Riot gear, tear gas, and other uses of excessive force are turning police forces from entities that exist to protect and serve, into entities that exist creating fear and contempt in the minds of civilians. There are however, ways that these social fears can be turned into opportunities for progression. Here are a few ways that this can be done:

Get involved from the inside- out

If you find that this issue hits close to home or incites your passions for social change the best possible way to affect change in this area is to get as close to the problem as you can.

Join a police force or academy and begin to understand these issues from the perspective of police. Police officers are the people on the ground that make these decisions every day and put themselves in the line of fire in order to make the community safer. If you want to be heard get on the inside; let your actions speak as loudly as your words.

Another way to get on the inside is to make the subject of criminal justice your major area of study and join the system armed with the knowledge you need to be able to change it. Criminal justice colleges in PA especially offer programs and the opportunity to become more educated on the system and how it can be augmented to meet the concerns of the public.

education

Make it an issue, then vote for it

The democratic process is the oldest and most effective way that change can be implemented on a large scale; make it an issue and vote for it.

First and foremost, contact those that represent you. Politicians get elected by their constituents on their ability to satisfy the needs of those who vote for them. Write letters, emails, and make phone calls. Also, make your voice as loud as you can. Team up with those that think alike and are motivated to join the challenge to change that which ails our society.

Young people are the most underrepresented group of voters in today’s society, because they don’t vote. For young people who want change, the strength of your voice is in its weakness. Raising awareness not only for this specific change but also for increased voting of people ages 18-29 could go a long way in establishing younger concerns in politics. For those of us whose age groups actually visit the polls understand that your voice is the loudest one, because you vote the most; use it.

Be good citizens

This encompasses all that has been said in this article. Free speech protects your right to demonstrate, yell, and scream; but, it doesn’t empower you to light vehicles on fire or loot local stores, or cause general unrest. If police brutality is an issue that you feel strongly should change, do it through the proper mediums; in ways that respect the laws and those who enforce them. If social unrest takes a nasty turn into rioting, the danger for an officer escalates, and is more likely to result in the use of brute force.

Greece bailout extension agreed after Eurogroup talks in Brussels

Greece and the eurozone finance ministers have reached a deal to extend its bailout by four months after talks in Brussels.

The extension will allow Greece to negotiate a follow-up arrangement with creditors.

“The Greek authorities have expressed their strong commitment to a broader and deeper structural reform process aimed at durably improving growth and employment prospects, ensuring stability and resilience of the financial sector and enhancing social fairness,” the Eurogroup said in a statement.

Dutch finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem, head of the Eurogroup, said that Athens had pledged to honor all its debts.

“This is a very positive outcome,” Jeroen Dijsselbloem told a news conference on Friday night.

“I think tonight was a first step in this process of rebuilding trust. As you know trust leaves quicker than it comes. Tonight was a very important, I think, step in that process,” he added.Greece bailout extension Eurogroup

Greece had agreed to present an initial list of reform measures by February 23, Jeroen Dijsselbloem said.

Athens welcomed the deal, which a Greek government official said gave it time to negotiate a “new deal”.

“Greece has turned a page,” the official said.

“We have avoided recessionary measures.”

Greece had been seeking a six-month extension of the bailout but the Eurogroup opted for four months.

The euro gained against the US dollar on February 20 following the announcement, adding 0.3% to $1.1403, while the Dow Jones industrial average and S&P 500 struck new intraday highs.

The agreement removes the immediate risk of Greece running out of money next month.

The new deal also provides a breathing space for the new Greek government to try to negotiate longer-term debt relief with its EU creditors.

Prince Charles and Camilla to meet Barack Obama at White House

Prince Charles and Camilla are to meet President Barack Obama during a four-day tour of the US.

The White House said President Barack Obama will host the royal couple in the Oval Office on March 19.

Charles and Camilla will be in the US from March 17 to March 20 to “promote the UK’s partnership with the United States”, Clarence House said.

They will also mark the Magna Carta’s 800th anniversary during their trip.

Other parts of their tour will include a tour of Mount Vernon – home of America’s first president, George Washington – and a visit to Louisville, Kentucky, home city of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.Prince Charles and Camilla to meet Barack Obama

While in Washington DC, the Prince of Wales will mark the Magna Carta’s anniversary during a visit to the National Archives.

Prince Charles will view the Charters of Freedom documents and the 1297 version of the Magna Carta, which is embodied in the American Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

He will also receive an award for “exceptional leadership in conservation” from the International Conservation Caucus Foundation.

Also in Washington DC, the prince and duchess will visit the Armed Forces Retirement Home, set in the same grounds as the Lincoln Cottage, where it is believed Abraham Lincoln wrote the last draft of the Emancipation Proclamation.

The Duchess of Cornwall, who has regularly raised awareness about rape victims, will carry out several solo engagements, including visiting the District of Columbia’s assault response team.

This is a coalition of 12 public and private community agencies which works to prevent assault and help victims of such crimes.

Camilla will visit a food literacy project for young people at a local farm while in Louisville, which will be where the couple ends their trip.

Prince Charles visited the Oval Office in 2011 to discuss energy and environmental issues with President Barack Obama.

Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015: Low-meat diet is healthier and has lower environmental impact

According to the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, Americans should eat a diet higher in plants, fruits and grains because it is healthier and has a lower environmental impact.

The report by medical and nutrition experts will be considered in the US dietary guidelines which determine school lunches to food package labels.

Cholesterol is now less of a concern, the report said, but added sugar should be limited to 200 calories a day.

The panel also backs moderate coffee drinking for the first time.

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC), which meets every five years, said a diet high in vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds was “more health promoting and is associated with less environmental impact” than the current US diet, which is high in meat.

It is the first time the panel has made a recommendation on the environmental impact of a diet.Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015 low-meat diet

However, the panel’s report stops short of telling people to be completely vegetarian, saying “no food groups need to be eliminated completely to improve sustainability outcomes”.

The panel also backs away from a prior guideline to limit dietary cholesterol, in particular egg consumption.

The report now says the available evidence “shows no appreciable relationship” between heart disease and how much dietary cholesterol you eat, but still recommends eating less saturated fat.

Responding to concerns about caffeine for the first time, the panel said there was “strong evidence” that three to five cups a day can be part of a healthy diet, including reduced risk of diabetes and heart disease.

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee recommended pregnant women limit caffeine to two cups of coffee a day.

Polar vortex 2015: Deadly cold continues for second day in eastern United States

0

Extremely cold temperatures have continued for a second day in the eastern United States.

A number of record lows were broken on February 19, including in Washington, Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Midwest temperatures dropped as low as -40F (-40C).

The polar vortex has been blamed for at least 19 deaths, many in Tennessee where temperatures were far lower than usual.

Forecasters say some areas will see sleet and freezing rain as temperatures warm up slightly over the weekend.

Ontario and parts of Quebec were also under extreme cold warnings – with temperatures dropping to -13F (-25C) in Thunder Bay and -6F (-21C) in Ottawa on February 20.Eastern US record cold 2015

In Toronto, a three-year-old boy died on February 20 after being lost for hours wearing only a T-shirt, nappy and boots.

Elijah Marsh was found near his home in -2F (-19C) temperatures but died in hospital.

The extreme cold has also frozen parts of the Hudson River in New York and much of Lake Erie and Lake Michigan.

Chicago reopened its schools on February 20 after closing the day before as wind chills made outside feel like -29 (-34C).

About 3,000 people were still without electricity in Tennessee on February 20 down from 30,000. Eleven deaths are being blamed on the cold in the state, including six from hypothermia.

In western Pennsylvania, temperatures dipped to minus -18F (-28C), without the wind chill.

Further north in the mid-western state of Minnesota, temperatures dived into -42F (-41C).

Walmart announces plans to raise wages for half a million employees

Walmart has announced plans to raise wages for more than 500,000 hourly employees at its US stores.

America’s largest private employer said that it would raise salaries for 40% of its staff, as well as increasing its base hourly wage to $9 – $1.75 above the US minimum wage.

By February 1 2016, all current workers will earn at least $10 per hour.

The retail giant has recently been under pressure from labor groups.

In a blog post to workers, the retailer’s chief executive Doug McMillon acknowledged that a tough economic environment combined with shifting consumers habits had made Walmart institute some changes, which could have been detrimental to workers.Walmart wages

“We … made a few changes aimed at productivity and efficiency that undermined the feeling of ownership some of you have for your business,” Doug McMillon wrote.

“When we take a step back, it’s clear to me that one of our highest priorities must be to invest more in our people this year.”

Walmart shares fell 2.8% in early trading on news of the employee program.

A coalition of workers known as OUR Walmart – which is backed by traditional US labor unions – have been staging one-day strikes over the past two years demanding the retailer raise wages and improve its scheduling for workers, among other concerns.

Emily Wells, one of the leaders of OUR Walmart and a Walmart employee earning $9.50 per hour in Florida, said in a statement: “We are so proud that by standing together we won raises for 500,000 Walmart workers, whose families desperately need better pay and regular hours from the company we make billions for.”

In addition to raising the base wage for many workers, Walmart also said it would increase the wages paid to supervisors, as well as work to find ways to be able to schedule worker shifts further in advance.

It also said it would invest in worker training programs, to encourage Walmart employees to advance within the organization.

According to the Associated Press, with the wage changes, the average wage for a full-time worker at Walmart will rise to $13 per hour from $12.85, and $10 per hour from $9.48 per hour for a part-time worker.

Pat Martin leaves Canadian House of Commons during vote because of tight underwear

Canadian House of Commons member Pat Martin rushed out of the parliament and nearly missed a procedural vote because of his tight underwear.

His cut-price and, as it turned out, overly tight underpants made it difficult for him to sit through a one-by-one vote, Pat Martin told a bewildered Speaker Andrew Scheer.

However, the opposition lawmaker was back in time to cast his ballot.Pat Martin tight underwear

A Twitter storm about not very well briefed lawmakers hit shortly afterwards.

Pat Martin, who is representing the riding of Winnipeg Centre for the New Democratic Party, drew applause and laughter from the chamber when he explained his temporary absence.

“They had men’s underwear on for half price and I bought a bunch that was clearly too small for me. I find it difficult to sit for any length of time.”

The speaker of the house said he initially ordered Pat Martin to sit back down when he wanted to leave.

“I did not understand his explanation at the time and I am not sure I understand it now,” Andrew Scheer said.

Maureen McDonnell to be sentenced on eight public corruption counts

Maureen McDonnell, the wife of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, could become the first modern-day governor’s spouse sent to prison for felonies she was convicted of committing while she held the mostly ceremonial position.

Maureen McDonnell will be sentenced on February 20 in US District Court on eight public corruption counts.

Federal prosecutors have recommended an 18-month prison term – six months less than Bob McDonnell got when he was convicted on 11 counts last month. Maureen McDonnell’s attorneys are asking for probation and 4,000 hours of community service.

More than a century ago, a former West Virginia first lady was acquitted more on charges of forging her first husband’s signature. None, however, has confronted the prospect of a prison term for a felony conviction.

More recently, former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and his fiancée, Cylvia Hayes, faced questions over whether she was personally enriched by the relationship. Neither has been charged.

Bob and Maureen McDonnell were convicted in September 2014 of doing favors for the CEO of a nutritional supplements company in exchange for $165,000 in gifts and loans.

Maureen McDonnell’s lawyers said in court papers that she was never comfortable in the role of first lady, and she cracked under the pressure and the fear of letting her husband down.

Bobbi Kristina Brown Taken Off Ventilator after Tracheostomy

Bobbi Kristina Brown has been removed the ventilator that has helped her breathe since she was found unresponsive in a bathtub on January 31, but no decisions have been made to take her off life support, a family source told Reuters.

The source, who declined to be identified, said Bobbi Kristina Brown’s overall condition has not changed. Removing the breathing tube was a standard course of practice to avoid infection, the source said.

Whitney Houston’s daughter will now receive air through a hole in her throat (tracheostomy), indicating she will likely remain in that position for weeks or months rather than of days, CNN reported.

Family members have said Bobbi Kristina Brown, 21, the only child of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, is fighting for her life at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after she was discovered last month face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her suburban home.

They have said little about Bobbi Kristina Brown’s treatment or medical prognosis. Bobby Brown has asked for privacy.

Police in Roswell, Georgia, are treating the case as a criminal investigation and have been questioning people about the circumstances leading up to Bobbi Kristina Brown being found in the bathtub.

Study: Sunlight continues to damage skin and increases cancer risk hours after exposure

0

According to a new study, sunlight continues to damage people’s skin and increase the risk of cancer for hours after exposure.

Scientists at Yale University discovered it was the supposedly protective pigment melanin that was causing the damage.

The research team says the findings may lead to better sunscreens that can prevent the extra damage.

When UV radiation pummels our skin cells, it can cause mutations in the DNA.

Melanin, the pigment behind a tan or natural skin tone, is the body’s defense as it absorbs the radiation.Sunlight skin damage

What scientists did not know previously was what happens to all the energy that the melanin has absorbed.

The Yale team showed, in the journal Science, that the high-energy version of melanin supercharges a series of chemical reactions.

A cocktail of superoxides and peroxynitrites culminate in a “very high-energy molecule breaking apart and releasing the energy that was holding it together”, said lead researcher Prof. Douglas Brash.

In laboratory tests, the whole damage in skin was still taking place four hours after UV exposure was stopped.

“Half or more of this kind of DNA damage is not happening on the beach, it’s on the car on the way home,” Prof. Douglas Brash said.

The team hopes they can develop a sunscreen that combines the usual protection with absorbing any energy from the melanin.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: Iconic Bollywood movie ends record 20-year run

Iconic Bollywood romantic comedy Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge had its final showing at a Mumbai cinema on February 19 after a record-breaking uninterrupted 1,009-week run.

It follows two Indian expatriates living in Britain and their travails as they fall in love.

The cinema where it was being shown decided that, almost 20 years on, the film is no longer commercially viable.Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge ends after 20 years

Featuring Indian stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one of the most popular in Bollywood history.

The comedy trounced all other Bollywood records for long-running films.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is so widely regarded that President Barack Obama quoted one of its lines during a speech in India last month.

Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson is being treated for tongue cancer, a statement on the metal band’s website said.

The statement said Bruce Dickinson was diagnosed just before Christmas after a small cancerous tumor was found at the back of his tongue.

Bruce Dickinson has just completed a seven-week course of chemotherapy and radiology treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

“As the tumor was caught in the early stages, the prognosis thankfully is extremely good,” the statement said.Bruce Dickinson tongue cancer

“Bruce’s medical team fully expect him to make a complete recovery with the all clear envisaged by late May.”

The statement also asked for patience and respect for the singer, who is also a pilot and businessman, and his family’s privacy.

An update on his progress will be given by the end of May.

The tumor was discovered after a routine doctor’s check-up led to tests and a biopsy.

The statement concluded that “Bruce is doing very well considering the circumstances and the whole team are very positive”.

Iron Maiden finished a three-year world tour in July 2014 with a headline slot at the Sonisphere Festival.

While on stage Bruce Dickinson hinted a new album could be on its way.

Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015: Cholesterol risk downgraded

0

A warning against eating foods high in cholesterol is no longer included in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, representing a major shift in policy, officials said February 19, 2015.

Until now, the US government’s draft dietary guidelines for Americans recommended that cholesterol intake be limited to 300 milligrams per day – the amount in about one stick of butter, or two small eggs, or a 10-ounce (300 g) steak.

Medical experts used to believe that eating too much cholesterol could raise the risk of heart attack and stroke by contributing to plaque buildup in the arteries.

The 2015 version of the guidelines will no longer place an upper limit on cholesterol “because available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol,” the US Department of Agriculture said in a statement.

The draft report, published online at health.gov/dietaryguidelines, said “cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.”

The recommended changes were compiled by 14 nationally recognized nutrition, medicine and public health experts.Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015

The guidelines do not become official right away. Instead, they are open for a 45-day comment period and will be discussed at a public meeting in Bethesda, Maryland on March 24.

“We have seen this controversy, especially surrounding the consumption of eggs, which are very high in cholesterol yet filled with beneficial nutrients,” said Suzanne Steinbaum, preventive cardiologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.

The committee “clearly is trying to dispel the idea that cholesterol matters.”

While cholesterol may be getting a free pass, the saturated fat that usually accompanies it is not.

In fact, experts recommend that Americans eat less than before.

Calories from saturated fat should make up about eight percent of a person’s daily calorie intake, compared to the 2010 guidelines that advised 10%.

For an average person, eating 2,000 calories per day, the new guidelines would mean the limit of saturated fat could be achieved with a few spoonfuls of butter, or a dozen eggs – since eggs are naturally low in saturated fat – or a seven-ounce steak.

“Saturated fat is still a nutrient of concern for overconsumption, particularly for those older than the age of 50 years,” said the report.

The overarching theme of the draft guidelines was to urge Americans to eat more fruit and vegetables, and Mediterranean and vegetarian diets were recommended as healthy options.

“A diet higher in plant-based foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, and lower in calories and animal-based foods is more health-promoting and is associated with less environmental impact than is the current US diet,” the report said.

Environmental groups applauded the draft’s mention of sustainability, saying such changes could help reduce global warming and food insecurity.

“The inclusion of sustainability criteria in the Dietary Guidelines’ recommendations is a huge step forward for human and planetary health,” said Kari Hamerschlag, senior program manager at Friends of the Earth.

“By recommending consumption of more plant foods and less meat, these guidelines will encourage people to lessen the huge impact of our diets on our natural resources.”

Russia: Alexei Navalny jailed for 15 days

President Vladimir Putin’s critic Alexei Navalny has been sentenced to 15 days in prison for handing out leaflets to publicize a forthcoming demonstration.

The Russian opposition leader’s imprisonment bars him from taking part in the planned rally on March 1.

Alexei Navalny was given a suspended sentence for defrauding two companies in December. He says the legal cases against him are motivated by his opposition to President Vladimir Putin.

He left the courthouse on February 19 in a police car and wearing handcuffs.

Alexei Navalny urged his followers to attend the rally against President Vladimir Putin’s policies.Alexei Navalny jailed 2015

The law he breached is one that restricts demonstrations.

“To ease the economic and political crisis we have to pressure the authorities. Let’s go to the anti-crisis rally,” Alexei Navalny said in a video posted on his Twitter account.

Correspondents say that although Alexei Navalny has little chance of posing a serious challenge to Vladimir Putin, he had pledged to lead 100,000 demonstrators in the march, which he says is against Kremlin policies that are leading Russia into a severe economic crisis.

Alexei Navalny led Moscow street protests against President Vladimir Putin between 2011 and 2012.

Last year Alexei Navalny and his brother Oleg were accused of stealing 30 million rubles ($462,000) from two companies.

Oleg Navalny was given a three-and-a-half-year jail sentence, while his brother was given a suspended sentence that prosecutors say they will appeal against.

Critics of the Kremlin and the US say that Alexei Navalny’s case is an attempt to stifle political dissent.

Since he was sentenced, Alexei Navalny has taken an increasingly defiant stance, cutting off his house arrest tag in January.

Extreme cold weather hits eastern United States

Parts of the eastern United States could experience historically low temperatures over the next few days, meteorologists predict.

Bitterly cold air from Siberia is producing dangerous and record-breaking low temperatures on February 19 and 20 stretching from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast. Lows close to zero will reach as far south as South Carolina.

Temperatures are 20 to 40 degrees F below normal for February from the Mid-Atlantic to the South.

Schools in Chicago have closed and trains in the north-east corridor have been affected by the cold.

Extreme cold warnings are also in effect in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.

Frigid temperatures are expected to continue into Friday, February 20.Niagara Falls frozen 2015

Record lows have already been broken in Kentucky, where it was -8F on Thursday morning in Paducah and most of state was below 0F.

Weather forecasters believe the cold air will help break more than 100 daily record lows, NBC News reports.

In Atlanta, temperatures dipped to 15F overnight and officials were trying to determine whether two people found dead had been killed by the cold.

The extreme cold is also threatening electricity grids in Tennessee – more than 30,000 lost power on February 18 and officials are calling for residents to conserve energy as the state remains in an emergency footing.

Temperatures in Washington DC are set to reach 2F, the lowest in 20 years.

Even Orlando, Florida, was expected to see temperatures fall below freezing.

The bitter cold comes after a series of severe snow storms have hit the north-east, with residents of Massachusetts and further north seeing more than 70 inches of snow within weeks, paired with sub-freezing temperatures.

More snow was forecast for parts of northern Maine and Canada as well as areas around the Great Lakes.

Greece bailout: Germany rejects six-month loan extension request

Germany has rejected Greece’s request for a six-month loan extension to eurozone.

The rejection came despite the European Commission calling the Greek request “positive” only minutes earlier.

Greece had sought a new six-month assistance package, rather than a renewal of the existing deal that comes with tough austerity conditions.

However, a German finance ministry spokesman said the new plea was “not a substantial proposal for a solution”.

The Greek request letter includes a pledge to maintain “fiscal balance” for a six-month period, while it negotiates with eurozone partners over long-term growth and debt reduction.

The Greek government was also reported as saying that its extension proposal was in order to give Athens enough time, without the threat of “blackmail and time deficits”, to draw up a new agreement with Europe for growth over the next four years.Greece bailout Alexis Tsipras

The German finance ministry spokesman said the Greek request was an attempt at “bridge financing, without meeting the requirements of the program. The letter does not meet the criteria agreed upon in the Eurogroup on Monday.”

Shortly before the German rejection of the proposal, a European Commission spokesman said that Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker regarded the letter as a “positive sign, which, in his assessment, could pave the way for a reasonable compromise in the interest of the financial stability in the euro area as a whole”.

“The detailed assessment of the [Greek loan] letter and the response is now up to the Eurogroup,” the spokesman added, referring to the discussions due to take place on February 20 when European finance ministers meet in Brussels.

In comments aimed at Germany, a Greek government source said the Eurogroup had “just two choices: to accept or reject the Greek request. We will now discover who wants to find a solution, and who does not”.

Tomorrow’s vote on the Greek proposals must be unanimous. If no agreement appears likely before the ministers gather, the meeting could be postponed.

The uncertainty was reflected on stock markets, with the FTSE 100 and Frankfurt’s DAX index both losing early gains after Germany’s rejection.

Greece could run out of money by the end of February without a deal and deposits continue to flow out of its banks.

Terrence Howard accuses ex-wife Michelle Ghent of sending death threats via Instagram

Terrence Howard accused his ex-wife Michelle Ghent of sending him death threats via Instagram last year using a fictitious account, court documents revealed.

Terrence Howard and Michelle Ghent divorced in May 2013.

The actor alleged in a May 2014 criminal threat complaint obtained by E! News that, a month prior Terrence Howard and his current wife Mira Pak received multiple written threats.

“The victim and Mira H. fear for their life since the suspect knows where they live,” the complaint stated.

“Mira H. believes the suspect is more than capable of following through her threats.”Terrence Howard and ex wife Michelle Ghent

Terrence Howard married wife Miranda, his third wife, in late 2013 and they’re currently expecting their first child together, the actor’s fourth kid.

A search warrant was issued for Michelle Ghent’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as the necessary log-ins, IP addresses, etc., to look into her digital footprint.

Per court documents, investigators seized an email from Facebook’s law enforcement response team informing the LAPD that they found Michie_Gent but could not locate the users of the three other account names from which the other threats allegedly came from, as well as 138 pages of subscriber information and copies of posts from April 1, 2014, to July 1, 2014.

The search warrant file alleges that Instagram user ROSEKIM1988 posted a photo from Terrence Howard and Mira Pak’s wedding day with a rude message. The same photo was also sent from the account jchang768 with the same message.

Terrence Howard and Miranda Pak also were targeted in an Instagram post from Michie_Ghent with a photo of a pill bottle with the caption: “oh dear look what I found. Do hope you refilled it’s one of your things you can’t leave home with out.”

The complaint continues: “The victim said that this harassment has been going on for over a year. Now he is receiving threats. He and his wife are afraid that the suspect is going to follow through with the threats. To the victim, the harassment appears to be escalating.”

According to TMZ, Michelle Ghent said that she did not send these messages and that she has talked to police and is no longer considered a suspect.
