Roland Garros 2015: Serena Williams Wins French Open Final After Beating Lucie Safarova

Serena Williams won this year’s French Open final against Czech 13th seed Lucie Safarova to claim her 20th Grand Slam title.

Lucie Safarova, who played her first Grand Slam final, led by a break in the decider but Serena Williams won the last six games.

Serena Williams becomes the third player – male or female – to win 20 major singles titles.

Only Germany’s Steffi Graf on 22 has won more since the open era began in 1968, with Australia’s Margaret Court collecting 24 between 1960 and 1973.

Victory at Wimbledon in July would see Serena Williams hold all four major titles at once, having managed the feat already in 2003.

“And she said, <<You gonna do another movie?>>”

Yangtze Ship Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to 396 as Emergency Workers Search Vessel

According to Chinese authorities, the death toll from the Eastern Star cruise ship disaster now stands at 396 as emergency workers search the vessel in the Yangtze River.

The Eastern Star capsized in a storm on June 1 and was turned upright in an operation on June 5.

Just 14 of the 456 passengers and crew are known to have survived. More than 40 are still missing.

The tragedy looks set to be China’s worst shipping disaster in more than 60 years of Communist rule.

Hooks were welded onto the ship and a net stretched around the entire structure in order to lift it by crane.

Most of the bodies retrieved were inside the vessel. State television says the focus of the recovery operation is the top and bottom decks of the ship.Eastern Star cruise ship disaster Yngtze River

Officials said there had been no further signs of life inside the ship, Xinhua news agency reports.

President Xi Jinping promised a thorough investigation into the cause of the disaster, after angry relatives protested at the scene.

Authorities tightly controlled access to the site, leading family members and journalists to complain about a lack of information.

Most of the 14 people known to have survived jumped from the ship as it began to sink. Three were rescued by divers from air pockets in the upturned hull.

The cause of the sinking is not yet known, but survivors have spoken of an intense storm which flipped the boat over in minutes.

The captain and chief engineer, who were among those who escaped, have since been detained.

Maritime agency records showed the Eastern Star was investigated for safety violations two years ago. It was held alongside five other vessels in 2013 over safety concerns.

The Eastern Star could become China’s deadliest boat accident since the SS Kiangya sank off Shanghai in 1948, killing somewhere between 2,750 and 4,000 people.

Pope Francis Visits Bosnia-Herzegovina

Pope Francis is visiting Bosnia-Herzgovina, where about 100,000 people are expected to greet him.

The Pope’s visit to the capital Sarajevo is aimed at prompting peace and reconciliation across Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The pontiff, who arrived today in the country, will hold a Mass at a Sarajevo stadium and also meet members of the Muslim, Orthodox Christian and Jewish communities.

Bosnia remains divided along religious and ethnic lines, 20 years after its civil war.Pope Francis visits Bosnia Herzegovina

Cardinal Vinko Puljic urged people of all faiths to “keep their ears and hearts open for the pope’s message”.

“We have put a lot of love into the preparations for the visit,” he said.

“The city is radiating joy.”

The war between Christian Orthodox Serbs and Muslim Bosniaks in the early 90s resulted in deep ethnic divisions.

Pope Francis will attempt to bolster reconciliation, by encouraging communities to come together.

In a message to the residents of Sarajevo earlier this week, Pope Francis wrote: “I come amongst you… to express my support for ecumenical and interfaith dialogue, and above all to encourage peaceful cohabitation in your country.”

At least 5,000 police will be on duty and authorities have published a helpline number if members of the public spot any suspicious activity during the visit.

On June 5, local media reported jihadists claiming to be from Islamic State had issued a video, calling for action in the Balkans. However, it is not thought to be linked to the papal visit.

Eighteen years ago, Pope John Paul II travelled to Sarajevo during a severe snowstorm in 1997. A monument was erected in the late pontiff’s honor in 2014.

Female Viagra: Flibanserin Approval Backed by Federal Advisory Panel

0

A federal advisory panel has urged the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve Sprout Pharmaceuticals’ flibanserin, nicknamed the “female Viagra”.

The experts backed flibanserin, but said it must carry warnings about strong possible side effects including fainting and tiredness.

By a vote of 18-6, the advisory committee to the FDA favored approval of the drug for women whose lack of s**ual desire was not attributable to other causes such as disease or relationship troubles, providing that certain steps were taken to limit the risks of the drug. Doctors might be required, for instance, to inform patients of potential side effects — like low blood pressure, fainting, nausea and dizziness — and physicians might have to become certified to prescribe the drug.

The final decision now moves to the FDA.

Now the drug could be approved by August 18, the FDA’s deadline for making a decision.Flibanserin female Viagra

The FDA has rejected the drug twice since 2010 but it usually follows the advice of its experts.

The agency has previously approved Viagra for men in 1999.

The move was immediately hailed by some women’s organizations. Their controversial campaign by to win federal approval was waged under the banner Even the Score, which accused the FDA of gender bias because it had approved Viagra and other drugs to help men while leaving women without options. The participants in the campaign had been brought together by a consultant to Sprout Pharmaceuticals, the developer of flibanserin.

According to experts, the drug has “modest results”, however, Dr. Julia Heiman of the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University said: “But on the other hand, even modest results can make a lot of difference when you’re at a certain point in the clinical problem.”

One patient who received the drug explained its appeal.

“For us, flibanserin is a relationship-saving and life-changing drug,” said Amanda Parrish.

Some criticized the campaign as providing cover for a drug with marginal effects.

“To approve this drug will set the worst kind of precedent – that companies that spend enough money can force the FDA to approve useless or dangerous drugs,” said, Dr. Adriane Fugh-Berman of Georgetown University, the New York Times reported.

If approved, flibanserin will be aimed at pre-menopausal women.

Azamat Tazhayakov: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s Friend Jailed for Boston Bombing Cover-Up

osAzamat Tazhayakov, has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail for obstructing police after Boston Marathon bombings.

Azamat Tazhayakov, a Kazakh exchange student, tearfully apologized on June 5 for removing a backpack containing fireworks from Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s room.

He denounced the Boston bomber’s actions, which killed three and injured 264 at the finishing line of the marathon in 2013.

In 2014, Azamat Tazhayakov was convicted of obstruction of justices.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s three friends went into his dormitory to collect the evidence, a backpack and a laptop.Azamat Tazhayakov jailed for Boston bombing cover up

One of them, Dias Kadyrbayev, took the lead in removing the items, texting with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as he did so, while the two other friends, including Azamat Tazhayakov and American Robel Phillipos, stood by and assisted, according to reports from the Boston Globe.

Dias Kadyrbayev pleaded guilty in 2014 to removing the backpack from Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s room and was sentenced on June 2 to six years in prison.

Judge Douglas Woodlock said: “There is no question that this was a very serious offence, the failure to act properly when confronted with the devastating event.”

Azamat Tazhayakov said the decision to bomb the Boston marathon “made him sick”. His father wept as he apologized.

Robel Phillipos was sentenced to three years in prison on June 5 for lying to investigators.

The three friends all attended the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Judge Douglas Woodlock said he thought Dias Kadrybayev was “most culpable” of the three friends.

The authorities are not claiming that Robel Phillipos, Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev were aware of the Boston Marathon bombing before it happened.

The princess is the fourth in line to the UK’s throne and her full name has been registered as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.

On June 1, Prince William returned to work as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance after taking a break over the birth of Princess Charlotte.

Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children have been at their home Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate since leaving London shortly after the birth of the princess, their second child.

The family is expected to be based at Anmer Hall for the next few years as they raise Princess Charlotte and their first born Prince George, who is almost two, with the help of a full-time nanny.

Prince George’s christening took place in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace in London in October 2013.

He was born at St Mary’s Hospital on July 22, 2013.

The prince, who is the third in line to the throne, wore a replica of the lace and satin christening gown made for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Victoria, the Princess Royal, in 1841.

Prince George’s christening was private, with only senior royals, four members of the Middleton family, the seven godparents and their spouses among the 22 guests.

Tariq Aziz Dead: Saddam Hussein’s Aide Dies in Iraqi Prison

Saddam Hussein’s aide, Tariq Aziz, has died in an Iraqi hospital at the age of 79, officials say.

Tariq Aziz served as Iraq’s foreign minister and deputy prime minister and was a close adviser to Saddam Hussein.

He was sentenced to death by the Iraqi Supreme Court in 2010 for the persecution of religious parties under Saddam’s rule but was never executed.

Tariq Aziz surrendered to US troops in 2003 shortly after the fall of Baghdad.

A local health official told reporters that Tariq Aziz was taken to hospital from prison after suffering a heart attack. Initial reports said he had died in prison.

He had long been in poor health, suffering from heart and respiratory problems, high blood pressure and diabetes, and his family repeatedly called for his release from custody

Tariq Aziz, who was known for his black-rimmed glasses and love of cigars, first came to prominence while serving as foreign minister during the first Gulf War in 1991.

As a Christian in a mainly Sunni Muslim government, Tariq Aziz was not considered a member of Saddam Hussein’s innermost circle.

A fluent English speaker, Tariq Aziz played a vocal role before the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, meeting Pope John Paul II in the Vatican to call for peace.

However, when Baghdad fell, Tariq Aziz’s lack of influence was reflected in his lowly ranking as the eight of spades in the US military’s famous “deck of cards” used to identify the most-wanted players in Saddam Hussein’s regime.

In 2009, Tariq Aziz was sentenced to 15 years for the execution of 42 Iraqi traders who had been accused of manipulating food prices while Iraq was subject to international trade sanctions.

Five months later, Tariq Aziz was sentenced to another seven years in prison for his role in the forced displacement of Kurds.

Not long after Zayn Malik’s departure he was seen at a recording studio in London working with Naughty Boy.

Nichelle Nichols Hospitalized After Suffering Mild Stroke

Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols has been hospitalized after suffering a mild stroke, her agent announced.

Nichelle Nichols is best known for her role as Lieutenant Uhura in Star Trek.

Zach McGinnis wrote on Facebook: “Last night while at her home in LA, Nichelle Nichols suffered from a mild stroke.

Nichelle Nichols, 82, was handpicked by Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry to appear in the original 1960s TV series.Star Trek Nichelle Nichols suffers stroke

Her casting as fourth in command of the USS Enterprise broke many racial barriers, with Nichelle Nichols becoming the first black woman to share a kiss with a white man (William Shatner who played Captain James T. Kirk) on US television in 1966.

Up until that point, African-American actresses had typically been cast in servile roles, playing housekeepers or maids. Fans of Nichelle Nichols’ Star Trek role reportedly included Dr. Martin Luther King.

In an updated post on Facebook, Zach McGinnis reported that Nichelle Nichols was “awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations.”

Zach McGinnis wrote: “Her right side has shown minor signs of mobility loss but she is not showing any signs of paralyses.

“We greatly appreciate all of the love and support her fans are showing at this time.”

The original Star Trek series ran for three years and continues to have a cult following.

Nichelle Nichols went on to star in several Star Trek movies, between 1979 and 1991, including The Wrath of Khan and The Final Frontier.

Malala Yousafzai Attackers Secretly Acquitted in Pakistan

According to new reports, 8 of the 10 men who attempted assassination of Malala Yousafzai in 2012 were acquitted in Pakistan.

In April 2015, officials in Pakistan said that 10 Taliban fighters had been found guilty and received 25-year jail terms.

However, only two of the men who stood trial were convicted, BBC reported.

The secrecy surrounding the trial, which was held behind closed doors, raised suspicions over its validity.

The Pakistani court claims that the two men convicted were those who shot Malala Yousafzai in 2012.

It was previously thought that both the gunmen and the man who ordered the attack had fled to Afghanistan.

Muneer Ahmed, a spokesman for the Pakistani High Commission in London, said on June 5 that the eight men were acquitted because of a lack of evidence.Malala Yousafzai attacker acquitted

Saleem Marwat, the district police chief in Swat, Pakistan, separately confirmed that only two men had been convicted.

Muneer Ahmed claimed that the original court judgment made it clear only two men had been convicted and blamed the confusion on misreporting.

Sayed Naeem, a public prosecutor in Swat, told the Associated Press news agency after the trial: “Each militant got 25 years in jail. It is life in prison for the 10 militants who were tried by an anti-terrorist court.”

In Pakistan, a life sentence is 25 years.

The acquittals emerged after reporters from the Daily Mirror attempted to locate the 10 convicted men in prisons in Pakistan.

The whereabouts of the eight acquitted men is not known.

The trial was held at a military facility rather than a court and was shrouded in secrecy, BBC reported. Anti-terrorism trials in Pakistan are not open to the public.

Pakistani authorities did not make the judgment available at any stage, nor did they correct the reports over the past two months that 10 men had been convicted.

The announcement of the convictions in April took many by surprise. No journalists had been made aware that the trial was taking place.

The Pakistani authorities did not say when and where the men had been arrested or how they were linked to the attack, or explain the charges against them.

Malala Yousafzai, who is now 17, was targeted by Taliban gunmen while she was travelling home from school in the town of Mingora.

The gunmen boarded a bus and asked for her by name before shooting her in the head.

She was targeted after campaigning for education rights for girls. She also wrote an anonymous blog for the BBC’s Urdu service, describing life under the Taliban

Malala Yousafzai was treated for her injuries in the UK and currently lives in Birmingham with her family. They are unable to return to Pakistan because of death threats from the Taliban.

Alan Bond Dead: Controversial Businessman Dies After Heart Surgery Aged 77

Alan Bond has died in Perth, Australia, at the age of 77, his family have announced.

The controversial Australian entrepreneur died on June 5 at the Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth days after undergoing heart surgery.

Alan Bond, who was born in the UK, became one of Australia’s richest men, funding Australia’s shock win of the America’s Cup yachting race in 1983.

He fell from grace in 1996 when found guilty of Australia’s then biggest corporate fraud.

Alan Bond’s children, John Bond and Jody Fewster, speaking outside Fiona Stanley Hospital, said he had died on Friday morning. He had been in a coma since his heart surgery three days ago.

His body “finally gave out after heroic efforts of everyone involved here at the intensive care unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital”, John Bond said.

John Bond paid tribute to his father, saying that to a lot of people, he was a “larger-than-life character” who started with nothing and rose to the heights of corporate Australia.Alan Bond dead at 77

Alan Bond shot to public acclaim in Australia in 1983 after he bankrolled what would be the country’s successful challenge of the coveted America’s Cup yachting race.

A decade later, the man dubbed Australian of the Year in 1978, fell spectacularly from grace.

In 1992, Alan Bond was declared bankrupt, with personal debts totaling A$1.8 billion ($1.4 billion).

Alan Bond was jailed in 1997 for what would be described as Australia’s biggest case of corporate fraud.

In Western Australia (WA), where Alan Bond’s corporate collapse had the most impact on investors who lost money, not everyone remembers him favorably.

Alan Bond is survived by his ex-wife Eileen and three of his children, John, Craig and Jody.

OPM Data Breach: 4 Million US Government Employees Affected

Nearly four million US government workers have been hit by data breach, officials said.

Chinese hackers are suspected of carrying out the “massive breach” of the personal data of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) employees.

OPM has confirmed that both current and past employees had been affected.

The breach could potentially affect every federal agency, officials said.

The hackers were believed to be based in China, officials said. Beijing responded by calling such claims “irresponsible”.

OPM said it became aware of the breach in April during an “aggressive effort” to update its cyber security systems.

It said it would be contacting all those individuals whose personal data may have been breached in the coming weeks, and offering them 18 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft insurance.OPM data breach 2015

OPM serves as the human resource department for the federal government. The agency issues security clearances and compiles records of all federal government employees.

Information stored on OPM databases includes employee job assignments, performance reviews and training, according to officials.

The breach did not involve background checks and clearance investigations, officials said.

Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said the hackers were believed to be based in China.

She called the breach “yet another indication of a foreign power probing successfully and focusing on what appears to be data that would identify people with security clearances”.

China denied there was any official involvement in the attack.

China’s foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a regular briefing: “Cyber attacks are generally anonymous and conducted across borders and their origins are hard to trace.

“Not to carry out a deep investigation and keep using words such as <<possible>> is irresponsible and unscientific.”

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are said to be investigating the latest breach.

Maggi Noodles Temporarily Withdrawn from India Stores

Nestle India has decided to temporarily stop distribution of Maggi noodles across India.

The move comes amid concerns about safety as several states have been testing Nestle’s bestselling instant noodle brand for higher-than-allowed levels of lead.

Maggi noodles have also been testing for the chemical monosodium glutamate, widely known as MSG.

Nestle said in a statement on June 5 that Maggi noodles were completely safe.

However, “recent developments and unfounded concerns about the product have led to an environment of confusion for the consumer,” Nestle said.

Nestle said the confusion had developed to such an extent “that we have decided to withdraw the product off the shelves, despite the product being safe”, but promised the noodles would return to the market as soon as the current problem was dealt with.Maggi noodles India pullout

Maggi noodles had already been banned for 15 days in India’s capital Delhi and states including Gujarat. However, other states had deemed them safe.

The earlier ban of Maggi noodles in Delhi received prominent coverage in the media and on social media platforms.

Maggi noodles ban sparked humor as well as public health concerns on social media platforms like Twitter.

Several hashtags like #Maggi, #Maggiban, #Maggiinasoup, #MaggiKeSideEffects have trended in the past few days.

Some took to Twitter to give their “humorous take” on the ban.

Maggi has an 80% share of India’s instant noodle market and has been branded the third staple alongside rice and lentils.

The instant noodles arrived in India in 1983 and can be found in corner shops across the country.

Nestle’s relationship with India dates back to 1912, when it launched in the country as The Nestle Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company (Export).

House Votes to Keep Cuba Travel Restrictions

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives has voted to keep restrictions on American citizens travelling to Cuba, despite a recent thaw in relations.

The chamber rejected proposals to allow regular scheduled flights to Cuba.

The House also said a rule should remain requiring US citizens to get a special license before going to Cuba.

It was voting on a transport funding bill which has provisions related to Cuba.

President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the bill.US Cuba travel restrictions

New rules issued by the Obama administration in January were aimed at easing travel restrictions to Cuba and allowing scheduled flights for the first time.

Republican Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart said the White House was wrong to lift the restrictions.

Mario Diaz-Balart, a Cuban-American, said it would mean flights landing at an airport that was partially owned by US interests when it was seized by the Cuban government.

“What you are saying is, <<It’s OK to do business on property that was stolen from Americans>>,” said Mario Diaz-Balart.

The thaw in relations between the US and Cuba was announced at the end of 2014 in simultaneous televised speeches by President Obama and his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro.

President Barack Obama used his executive powers to ease the embargo that has existed for more than 50 years, defying hardline critics.

However, the issue is caught in a battle between Republicans who control Congress and the White House.

Greece Delays €300 Million Debt Repayment to IMF

Greece has announced it will delay June 5 €300 million ($330 million) debt repayment to the International Monetary Fund.

The country told the IMF it will bundle all four of its June payments together.

The Greek government will have until June 30 to pay the €1.5 billion total, which is also the day on which its bailout deal with the EU and IMF runs out.

PM Alexis Tsipras is trying to reach a deal to unlock final bailout funds before Greece runs out of money.Greece delays IMF debt repayment

But Greece’s creditors say differences remain between the two sides.

IMF spokesman Gerry Rice said that under a precedent dating back to the late 1970s, governments could ask to bundle together “multiple principal payments falling due in a calendar month… to address the administrative difficulty of making multiple payments in a short period.”

The last country to bundle together payments to the IMF was Zambia in the mid-1980s.

Alexis Tsipras said after talks in Brussels on June 4 that an agreement with Greece’s international creditors was “in sight”.

However, the head of the eurozone’s finance ministers Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who was involved in the negotiations, said later the gap was “still quite large”.

High-level talks were expected to resume on June 5, although Alexis Tsipras was due to brief the Greek parliament rather than return to Brussels.

Alexis Tsipras rejected elements of proposals put forward by his country’s international creditors in talks with Jeroen Dijsselbloem and European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker.

He said the sides were now “very close to an agreement” on the key sticking point of primary surpluses – the amount by which tax revenues exceed public spending.

Alexis Tsipras also said there were “points that no-one would consider as a base for discussion”, citing cuts to pensions and a raise in sales tax for electricity.

Jeroen Dijsselbloem said the talks had been successful in narrowing down the remaining issues, although key differences still remained.

He expected Greece to “look at our proposals more carefully, probably come up with some alternative proposals that they want,” Reuters quoted him as saying.

Greece’s cash-strapped government has been haggling since February over the release of the last €7.2 billion in funds, but its current bailout arrangement with the IMF, European Central Bank (ECB) and European Commission runs out at the end of June.

Failure to reach a deal could trigger a Greek default and a potential exit from the eurozone.

Street Outlaws Bios: Flip a.k.a Tyler Priddy

Street Outlaws’ Flip, a.k.a Tyler Priddy, raced a ’80 Chevy El Camino in Discovery’s reality show.

His Chevy was famous because of its mismatched parts which Flip had begged for, borrowed, and stolen to keep the car racing.Street Outlaws bio Flip

Flip was best friends with Big Chief since they were kids, when they would ride bikes to watch the local OKC street races.

He always had a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

Flip was the parts warehouse manager and worked for Warren Caterpillar for 10 years. He liked drag racing; starting with a Mustang, then an El Camino, he afterwards turned his passion towards Street Outlaws, the real-life version of The Fast and the Furious, beating out several others to be selected for the show.

Tyler Priddy passed away at the age of 31 on May 28, 2013 at his home in Yukon, Oklahoma.

While the cause of death of Tyler “Flip” Priddy has never been made public, reports suggest that he committed suicide, however there is no strong evidence for that.

The sale smashes the previous record for a sale of The Hobbit, set in 2008 when a first edition sold for £60,000 ($90,000).

JRR Tolkien gave the book to Katherine “Kitty” Kilbride, one of his students at Leeds University in the 1920s.

The Elvish verse is an extract from JRR Tolkien’s The Lost Road, part of his 12-volume History of Middle-earth.

The Hobbit introduced the character of Bilbo Baggins and the “one ring” that would feature again in his Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Sotheby’s had expected the first edition to fetch up to £70,000 ($105,000) at Thursday’s auction of children’s books and illustrated works.

FIFA Corruption Scandal: Ex-VP Jack Warner to Reveal All About Soccer Corruption

0

Former FIFA vice-president and CONCACAF President Jack Warner has said that he will reveal all he knows about corruption at the world soccer body.

In an address on Trinidadian TV on June 3, Jack Warner, who said he feared for his life, also said he could link FIFA officials to general elections in his native Trinidad and Tobago in 2010.

The 72-year-old is one of the 14 people charged by the US over alleged corruption at FIFA.

Another top FIFA official and key witness, American Chuck Blazer, has admitted accepting bribes.

The admissions came in a newly released transcript of Chuck Blazer’s guilty plea from 2013, as part of a wide-ranging US criminal case that has engulfed FIFA and led President Sepp Blatter to resign.FIFA corruption Jack Warner confession

The DoJ alleges the 14 people charged worldwide accepted bribes and kickbacks estimated at more than $150 million over a 24-year period. Four others have already been charged, including Chuck Blazer.

Jack Warner resigned from all soccer activity in 2011 amid bribery allegations and later stepped down as Trinidad and Tobago’s security minister amid a fraud inquiry.

A key figure in the deepening scandal, Jack Warner said he had given lawyers documents outlining the links between FIFA, its funding, himself and the 2010 election in Trinidad and Tobago. He said the transactions also included Sepp Blatter.

In the TV address entitled The Gloves Are Off, Jack Warner said: “I will no longer keep secrets for them who actively seek to destroy the country.”

He promised an “avalanche” of revelations to come, speaking to his supporters at a rally later the same day.

Jack Warner, who denies the charges against him and faces extradition to the US, was released on bail after handing himself in to police in the Trinidad and Tobago capital of Port of Spain last week.

He resigned from FIFA’s executive committee in 2011 amid allegations he had bribed his Caribbean associates.

Jack Warner’s address came hours after the details of Chuck Blazer’s 2013 plea bargain came to light, including the admission that he and other officials had accepted bribes in connection with the 2010 World Cup bid, which saw the tournament awarded to South Africa.

On June 4, South African police said they had opened a preliminary investigation into allegations its national soccer association paid a $10 million bribe to host the tournament – a claim the authorities deny.
