Robert Lewis Dear: Planned Parenthood Shooter Admits He Is Guilty in Court

0

Robert Lewis Dear, who is accused of killing three people at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado, has said in court that he is guilty and a “warrior for the babies”.

“I am guilty. There will be no trial. I am a warrior for the babies,” the man said during a court hearing where prosecutors announced his charges.

Robert Lewis Dear, 57, faces 179 charges for the attack that killed two civilians and a police officer, and wounded nine.

During the hearing, he was formally charged with first-degree murder.Robert Lewis Dear Planned Parenthood shooting

The Planned Parenthood group has drawn anti-abortion protests in the past.

Robert Dear said something about “no more baby parts” during his arrest and had asked for directions to the clinic prior to the attack.

“You’ll never know what I saw in that clinic. Atrocities. The babies. That’s what they want to seal,” he said during the hearing.

Those who were killed in the attack include police officer Garrett Swasey, 44, Iraq War veteran Ke’Arre Stewart, 29, and Jennifer Markovsky, 35, who was taking a friend to the clinic.

Police have not discussed a motive in the shooting despite signs that Robert Dear was concerned about abortion, a service provided by Planned Parenthood, a national family planning clinic.

Donald Trump Will Not Leave White House Race despite Criticism

Donald Trump has said he will never leave the 2016 White House race despite increasing calls for him to step aside.

The Republican presidential hopeful told the Washington Post he would not step aside, no matter what.

The White House had said Donald Trump was “disqualified” from running after he said the US should ban Muslims from entering the country.

Donald Trump’s comments, in the wake of a deadly terror attack in California, drew global condemnation.

The latest world leader to reject his remarks was Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who said Israel “respects all religions”, hours after Donald Trump announced he will be visiting the country this month.

Donald Trump is the current frontrunner among the Republicans running for president, six weeks before the primary contests begin for each party to pick their nominee.Donald Trump White House 2016

He also alluded to running as an independent in a tweet linking to a USA Today poll which found 68% of his supporters would vote for him if he left the Republican Party.

Concerned that Donald Trump could run as an independent, the Republican leaders persuaded the real estate tycoon to pledge to support the eventual nominee.

However, Donald Trump has threatened to leave the Republican Party before if he was not “treated fairly”.

“My whole life is about winning. I don’t lose often. I almost never lose,” he told the Post.

Party officials fear a third-party Trump campaign would split the Republican vote, and give Democrats a winning advantage.

Although Donald Trump has consistently led in national polls for several months, a majority of voters view him unfavorably.

Republican congressman David Jolly has joined a number of commentators who have urged Donald Trump to withdraw from the race.

Donald Trump’s comments about Muslims came after the deadly shootings in San Bernardino, California.

He called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”.

Former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush called Donald Trump “unhinged”. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said his comments were contrary to American values.

A petition calling for Donald Trump to be barred from entering the UK has gathered more than 250,000 names, so British lawmakers will have to consider debating the issue.

“They don’t know what they’re getting into,” Donald Trump wrote on Twitter about the petition.

Angela Merkel Named Time’s Person of the Year for 2015

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been named as Time’s Person of the Year for 2015.

Time Magazine cited Angela Merkel’s role in Europe’s crises over migration and Greek debt.

Angela Merkel had provided “steadfast moral leadership in a world where it is in short supply”, editor Nancy Gibbs wrote.

ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was named runner-up and third place went to US presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

Nancy Gibbs wrote of Angela Merkel: “For asking more of her country than most politicians would dare, for standing firm against tyranny as well as expedience and for providing steadfast moral leadership in a world where it is in short supply, Angela Merkel is <<Time’s Person of the Year>>.”Angela Merkel Time Person of the Year 2015

Citing the refugee and Greek economic crises, along with the Paris terror attacks, Nancy Gibbs said: “Each time Merkel stepped in. Germany would bail Greece out, on her strict terms. It would welcome refugees as casualties of radical Islamist savagery, not carriers of it.

“And it would deploy troops abroad in the fight against ISIS [Islamic State]. You can agree with her or not, but she is not taking the easy road. Leaders are tested only when people don’t want to follow.”

Time also noted Angela Merkel’s leadership during what it called Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “creeping theft of Ukraine”.

Angela Merkel’s spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said: “I am sure the chancellor will cherish this as an incentive in her job.”

After the award was announced Donald Trump tweeted: “I told you @TIME Magazine would never pick me as person of the year despite being the big favorite. They picked person who is ruining Germany.”

While Time runs a poll for readers to vote, the decision on winners is made independently by the editors.

Angela Merkel, 61, joins an eclectic list of former winners, including Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill and Richard Nixon.

She is only the fourth woman since 1927 to be named an individual winner outright and the first in 29 years.

The other individual women to win were Wallis Simpson (1936), Queen Elizabeth II (1952) and Corazon Aquino (1986).

Soong Mei-ling won jointly with her husband Chiang Kai-shek in 1937, three women won as Whistleblowers in 2002 and the award went generically to American Women in 1975.

VW Emissions Scandal: Fewer Cars Affected by CO2 Issue

VW has said that far fewer of its cars are affected by inaccurate carbon dioxide emissions and fuel usage measurement than it originally thought.

The automaker now estimates that about 36,000 of the cars it produces each year are affected.

Last month, Volkswagen said an internal investigation suggested that CO2 emissions and fuel consumption had been understated for 800,000 vehicles.

It warned at the time that the problem could cost it about €2 billion.VW CO2 issue 2015

“Following extensive internal investigations and measurement checks, it is now clear that almost all of these model variants do correspond to the CO2 figures originally determined.

“This means that these vehicles can be marketed and sold without any limitations,” VW said in a statement.

The company suggested its findings meant that the charge was now likely to be lower.

“The negative impact on earnings of €2bn that was originally expected has not been confirmed. Whether we will have a minor economic impact, depends on the results of the re-measurement exercise,” it added.

VW has already put aside €6.7 billion to meet the cost of recalling 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide that were fitted with so called “defeat devices” that circumvented tests for emissions of nitrogen oxides.

The scandal was revealed in September by US regulators, who said the software detected when vehicles were undergoing emissions tests and changed the way they operated.

Investors, who had feared that the CO2 problem could be as large as its “defeat devices” scandal, were clearly relieved by the statement.

VW’s shares, which have fallen almost 30% this year, rose almost 5% after the statement.

Saint West: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Reveal Baby Son’s Name

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have revealed they named their newborn son Saint West.

The 35-year-old reality star gave birth to her second child on December 5, three weeks before his due date.

Sources reportedly told E!News Kim Kardashian and Kanye West decided upon the religious name as they wanted to show how much of a “blessing” their son is after Kim’s “difficult pregnancy”.

She has made no secret that she doesn’t enjoy pregnancy and had a complicated birth due to her suffering from something called placenta accreta – when the placenta grows too deeply into the uterus.

The condition – which has the potential to cause severe blood loss after delivery – made the birth “the most painful experience ever”, TMZ reported.

Kim Kardashian’s doctor’s needed an extra few hours to deal with the placenta issues, but the mum still managed to have a natural birth instead of a c-section, something which is believed to be recommended if suffering from the condition, according to the website.

The reality star, who described her second pregnancy as the “worst experience”, also suffered from it with daughter North and previously revealed she may have to have a hysterectomy after she gave birth to her son because of the condition.

Shortly before welcoming her son, a relieved Kim Kardashian told fans her unborn baby was no longer in the breech position.

Kim Kardashian previously revealed that doctors had attempted to turn her son around but failed and she was considering having a “painful and scary” medical procedure.

“This weekend, I checked into the hospital and underwent a procedure called an ECV (External Cephalic Version, or a Version), which is done to manually turn the baby from a breech position to a head-down position,” she wrote on her website last week.

“They gave me an IV with medication to relax my uterus, and then three doctors attempted to work together to turn the baby.”

Kim Kardashian went on to explain: “There was a risk that my water might break or the baby’s heart rate could drop – in which case, an emergency C-section would then take place. I went in with my sisters and my husband. I was prepared for it all!”

“They don’t give you any pain medication, and let me tell you: This was soooooo painful. Probably more painful than childbirth.

“BUT it worked!!! My baby is in the right position and it feels so good to not have the stress of thinking I need a C-section.”

Donald Trump’s Muslim Ban Proposal Endangers US Security

The Pentagon has warned that Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric undermines US national security by boosting ISIS.

Donald Trump has said Muslims should be banned from entering the US, in the wake of the deadly San Bernardino attacks.

Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said such talk “bolsters ISIL’s narrative”, referring to ISIS.

There has been a global outcry since Donald Trump made his remarks.

Secretary of State John Kerry joined the onslaught of condemnation on December 8 when he said they were “not constructive” in the fight against ISIS.

The ISIS militants are the target of a US-led bombing campaign in Syria and Iraq.Donald Trump Muslim ban proposal 2015

Donald Trump announced his plan days after an attack in California raised US fears about homegrown terrorism.

A Muslim couple, believed to have been radicalized, opened fire and killed 14 people at a social center in San Bernardino, California.

One of the two perpetrators, Tashfeen Malik, reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS on the day of the tragedy.

Responding to Donald Trump’s remarks, the Pentagon said a border closed to Muslims would harm American efforts to counter extremist ideology.

Without mentioning Donald Trump by name, Peter Cook said: “Anything that bolsters ISIL’s narrative and pits the United States against the Muslim faith is certainly not only contrary to our values but contrary to our national security.”

The Pentagon’s view echoed a tweet from Hillary Clinton that said Donald Trump’s proposed ban is “not only counter to our values – it plays right into the hands of terrorists”.

The outcry was swift as soon as Donald Trump said in a statement on December 7 that Muslims nursed a “hatred” towards America and should be banned “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”.

The Republican presidential hopeful and reality TV star later said it would not apply to people living in the US.

Donald Trump defended the idea on December 8, comparing it to policies implemented by President Franklin Roosevelt during World War Two against Japanese, German and Italian people in the US.

Muslim leaders, the UN and foreign leaders have criticized the call as dangerous and divisive, while the White House said Donald Trump should be disqualified from the race.

Attempting to explain his comments, Donald Trump said parts of London were “so radicalized the police are afraid for their lives”.

Responding to the billionaire’s comments, London Mayor Boris Johnson said that was “ridiculous” and added: “The only reason I wouldn’t go to some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump.”

UK PM David Cameron said Donald Trump’s comments were “divisive, unhelpful and quite simply wrong”.

Republican leaders were strong in their condemnation. House Speaker Paul Ryan said: “What was proposed yesterday is not what this party stands for. And more importantly, it’s not what this country stands for.”

Venezuela Elections 2015: Electoral Authority Confirms Opposition’s Super-Majority

Venezuela’s electoral authority has confirmed that the opposition has won a key two-thirds majority, enabling it to challenge President Nicolas Maduro.

The opposition said it would work to release jailed opposition leaders and address the country’s economic crisis.

Nicolas Maduro has announced a cabinet reshuffle but vowed to veto any amnesty law for jailed politicians.

The election result is the worst for the Socialist movement founded by late leader Hugo Chavez in 1999.

The majority means the Democratic Unity coalition can now make sweeping changes, including calling a possible referendum on Nicolas Maduro’s leadership.

It also wants the release of one of its leaders, Leopoldo Lopez, who was given a 13-year prison sentence for inciting violence – a charge critics say was politically motivated.Venezuela elections opposition supermajority

However, in a TV address, President Nicolas Maduro said he would block any amnesty law: “The murderers have to be prosecuted and have to pay.”

Nicolas Maduro said his Socialist Party would hold an “extraordinary congress” to find out what went wrong at the election.

The opposition meanwhile warned of looming food shortages for Venezuelans.

“We urge the government to stop crying and start working,” opposition leader Jesus Torrealba said.

“We’re just a few weeks away from a very serious problem in terms of food,” he added.

North Korea: US Imposes New Sanctions over Weapons Proliferation

North Korea has been hit with new US sanctions over its alleged weapons proliferation activities.

The US sanctions target the North Korean army’s Strategic Rocket Force, as well as two banks and three shipping companies allegedly involved in arms trade.

The sanctions bar American citizens or companies from engaging in any transactions with the companies.US sanctions North Korea

North Korea already faces sanctions from several other countries and the UN.

The Strategic Rocket Force is accused of performing several missile tests last year, while the shipping companies – linked to other already-sanctioned firms – are accused of transporting illicit arms.

The US Treasury also blacklisted officials of previously sanctioned North Korean Banks.

The sanctions freeze any US assets the blacklisted companies and individuals have. It is not clear how much, if any, they have in the United States.

Five of the individuals added to the blacklist – two in Syria and two in Vietnam – are representatives of the Tanchon Commercial Bank, which is already on the US sanctions list. It performs financial activities for the Korea Mining and Development Trading Corporation, which is responsible for North Korea arms exports.

North Korea’s Foreign Trade Bank also had one representative, based in Russia, added to the sanctions list. The company itself was also already covered by US sanctions.

Beatles’ Rishikesh Ashram Opened to Public

The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi ashram in the Indian town of Rishikesh where The Beatles learned to meditate has been opened to the public.

The Beatles spent time at the 18-acre spiritual retreat, meditating and writing songs in 1968. Many of the songs made it onto the Bratles’ iconic White Album.

The ashram was run by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a flamboyant self-styled Indian guru, who died in 2008.

The retreat was abandoned by the guru and his followers in the 1970s.

However, the ashram, which was taken over by the local forestry department in 2003, remained a big draw with Beatles fans from all over the world. They would usually sneak in by climbing the walls or paying a small bribe to a gatekeeper.

The retreat is located on the fringes of a tiger reserve. A meditation hall with colorful graffiti on the walls is the main attraction.

Authorities opened the ashram to visitors on December 8, and are charging Indian and foreign tourists 150 ($2.24) and 700 rupees ($10.49) respectively.

Visitors will not be allowed to draw on the walls on the ashram without permission from the authorities, he said.

The Beatles had planned a three-month retreat at the estate in 1968, but, according to some accounts, it descended into farce.

Ringo Starr went home after 10 days complaining about the spicy food.

Paul McCartney stayed for a month, while John Lennon and George Harrison left abruptly after six weeks.

Paul Saltzman, author of The Beatles in Rishikesh, says the band wrote some 48 songs during their stay.

The ashram itself – leased to the guru by the government in 1957 – was gradually reclaimed by nature after being abandoned.

Tyson Fury Stripped of IBF Heavyweight Title

0

Professional boxer Tyson Fury has been stripped of his IBF title less than two weeks after winning it.

The 27-year-old world heavyweight champion had to agree to fight the IBF’s mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov but will instead face Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch.

Tyson Fury beat Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko on points on November 28 to claim three versions of the heavyweight crown.

The Briton, who is unbeaten in 25 professional contests, retains the WBA and WBO versions of the heavyweight title, while the WBC belt is held by American Deontay Wilder.

The 31-year-old Vyacheslav Glazkov, also a Ukrainian, has won 21 of his 22 professional fights.

The contract for last month’s title fight in Dusseldorf included a clause for a rematch, for which the date and the venue have to be decided, and Wladimir Klitschko – who had been world champion for 11 years – announced last week he would take up the option.

Tyson Fury has been at the center of controversy following his comments about women and gay people.

House Approves Bill to Tighten Visa-Free Travel to US

The House of Representatives has passed a bill tightening visa-free travel to the US following the Paris attacks.

The measures would bar people who traveled to Iraq and Syria after March 2011 from the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

People who have visited Iran and Sudan – which the US accuses of supporting terrorism – would also need a visa.

The White House-backed bill was proposed because the Paris attackers could have traveled to the US without a visa.

Donald Trump has called for far greater restrictions, proposing that all Muslims be barred from entering the US until further notice.Visa free travel bill House

The Republican presidential candidate’s comments – made after a deadly mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, by Islamist sympathizers – have been condemned by politicians from across the political spectrum.

The House voted 407 to 19 in support of the proposed change to visa-free travel.

“In an abundance of caution, we will now require those individuals to apply for a visa and go through the formal visa screening process,” said House Republican Candice Miller, the bill’s main sponsor.

There are 38 nations currently included in the US VWP.

According to US officials, about 5,000 Europeans, including many from VWP nations, have traveled to Syria and Iraq to fight with extremist groups such as ISIS and pose a risk to the US.

If the bill passes through the Senate and is signed into law, it would also require all travelers arriving in the US under the VWP to have electronic passports containing biometric data from next April.

The bill also calls for countries participating in the VWP to share more information about suspected terrorists and criminals.

The brief explanation of what the essay is and how to deal with

Essays are usually referred articles, posts, or composition. In a broader sense, the essay is also understood as writing. In general, the essay is defined as a brief writing containing the author’s opinion or argument about a topic. Typically, a person writes an essay because he wanted to give an opinion on an issue or phenomenon that occurs in society. Essay writer may also explore a topic or issue and provide feedback or opinion on a topic or issue that is under discussion. In general, the essay has some prominent features that differentiate it from other writings. You can find great information by on this site.

The first feature relates to the number of words in an essay. Basically, there is no rule that says how many words should be written in an essay. The benchmark is that a completed essay should be read in one cycle. This understanding can be illustrated as follows. When someone is sitting waiting a health check at a clinic, he had already finished reading an essay when he stands called into the examination room. An essay should be read in quite a short time and is able to provide insight to every reader.

Related to the number of words, some of the guidebooks provide clearer limits. A paper categorized as an essay when written in between 500 to 1500 words. When typed in the form of a Microsoft Word document, the length of an essay ranged from three to seven pages of A4 size paper, typed with font size 12 and has double spacing. An essay that is longer than 1,500 words, for example 3000 or 4000 words, will be classified as an extended essay. An extended essay is usually only done by professionals in the writing world.

Another feature is the structure of essay writing. The structures used in writing essay are divided into three parts which are embodied in the form of paragraphs. The first part of the essay is a preliminary or introductory paragraph. In this section, the author gives the opening sufficient section and relevant information about the topic written. The most important paragraph of the introduction is the thesis sentence that serves as the idea. The second part is the main paragraphs that contain further discussion of the ideas. The number of paragraphs in this section depends on the amount of the main ideas to be presented in the essay. The last part is the closing paragraph. This section can contain a summary of the ideas that have been delivered in the content of the essay or the affirmation of the main ideas that have been submitted.

Word choice, sentence structure, and style of writing are closely related to the essay writer. Usually, experienced essay writers have certain features when writing an essay. The more experiences of someone, the easier the style of the language of that someone to be identified. The experience is increasing along the time you spend in writing.

In conclusion, the essay is an idea that is written briefly. Any topic can be written in essay form, so that the essay is one kind of articles that is often used as a test tool to measure a person’s intelligence. A knowledgeable person will be able to convey his/her ideas in a coherent, logical, and interesting way. The more we read, the more likely we are to be able to write essays well. By reading diligently, we will have more ideas to write about. The main problem is how to realize an idea that has been embedded in our mind through a paper. What you should do is to do as much as possible what called essay training.

Donald Trump’s Call for Muslim Ban Sparks Outcry

Donald Trump’s call to ban Muslims from entering the US have provoked condemnation from across the political spectrum.

The Republican presidential hopeful said all Muslims should be banned from entering the US.

Republicans, Democrats, Muslim leaders, the UN and foreign leaders criticized the call as dangerous and divisive.

Donald Trump said many Muslims nursed a “hatred” towards America.

The tycoon said they should be banned “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”.

Donald Trump’s campaign manager said that would apply to “everybody” – would-be immigrants and tourists.

However, Donald Trump told Fox News it would “not apply to people living in the country”, adding that Muslims serving in the US military would “come home”.

Donald Trump’s statement was delivered as the US comes to terms with its deadliest terror attack since 9/11.

Last week a Muslim couple, believed to have been radicalized, opened fire and killed 14 people at a health centre in San Bernardino.

Donald Trump’s proposed ban prompted a horrified reaction from Republicans and others.

Rival candidate Jeb Bush called Donald Trump “unhinged”, while former Vice-President Dick Cheney said it “goes against everything we stand for and believe in”.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest later challenged the Republican Party to denounce the leading candidate, and said that the proposal “disqualifies him from serving as president”.

Josh Earnest said that the Trump campaign had a “dustbin of history” quality to it, calling the candidate a “carnival barker” with “fake hair”.

UN refugee agency UNHCR said it was concerned that the rhetoric was putting an “incredibly important” resettlement program for vulnerable Syrian refugees at risk.

“Donald Trump sounds more like a leader of a lynch mob than a great nation like ours,” said Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“These are not just words… Trump and Carson’s mainstreaming of Islamophobia in the election is inciting discrimination, hate crimes, violent attacks against Muslims and mosques.”

Donald Trump took part in heated interviews on several TV networks on December 8, defending the proposal and saying it was a temporary measure to prevent “many more World Trade Centers”.

On ABC’s Good Morning America, Donald Trump said “what I’m doing is no different than FDR,” referring to policies implemented by President Franklin Roosevelt during World War Two against Japanese, German and Italian people in the US. Some of those measures saw over 100,000 people detained in government camps.

At one point during a lengthy interview on MSNBC, presenter Joe Scarborough forced the network into a commercial break after the candidate repeatedly talked over journalists, refusing to answer questions.

Donald Trump’s statement to reporters on December 7 said polling by the Center for Security Policy, a conservative think-tank, suggested that 25% of Muslims in the US believed violence against America was justified.

“The hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why, we will have to determine.

“Until we [do]… our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad.”

It is not the first time the New York billionaire has come under fire for anti-Muslim remarks.

After the terror attacks in Paris, he suggested they register on a database and he said the US should refuse all Syrian refugees. Then he said thousands of Muslims in New Jersey cheered during 9/11, despite no evidence.

Donald Trump’s travel ban pledge sparked loud cheers when he outlined it at a South Carolina rally hours after his initial statement.

A handful of supporters backed Donald Trump online, with controversial conservative commentator Ann Coulter tweeting: “GO TRUMP, GO!”

Another of the Republican frontrunners, Ted Cruz, praised Donald Trump “for standing up and focusing America’s attention on the need to secure our borders”, although he said he disagreed with the policy.

Taliban Militants Storm Kandahar Airport

Afghan Taliban fighters have reportedly attacked Kandahar airport.

It is not clear whether the clashes have resulted in casualties.

A spokesman for the provincial governor said the attackers had managed to breach the first gate of the complex.

A pro-Taliban website said the group had launched an attack “against domestic and foreign forces”.

Militant violence has increased across Afghanistan since the departure of most US and NATO forces in 2014.

“Several insurgents” had carried out the attack, the provincial governor’s spokesman Samim Khopalwaq told AFP.

Local authorities have reportedly deployed commandos to the area.

In recent months the Taliban have enjoyed a series of battlefield victories, including briefly capturing the northern Afghan city of Kunduz.

Paris Attacks: Eagles of Death Metal Make Emotional Return to Bataclan

American rock band Eagles of Death Metal has made an emotional return to the Bataclan concert hall following the Paris terror attacks last month.

The band’s members visited the concert venue to lay flowers in memory of the 90 concert-goers who were killed.

They embraced one another as they read messages in silence, fighting to contain their emotions.

Jesse Hughes, the band’s frontman, wiped away tears before speaking to a small group of fans at the site.

Eagles of Death Metal made a surprise appearance on stage in Paris on December 7 when they took to the stage to perform with U2.Eagles of Death Metal Bataclan memorial

They belted out the Patti Smith anthem People Have The Power at the concert at the AccorHotels Arena.

A total of 130 people were killed on when gunmen attacked bars, cafes and restaurants in co-ordinated attacks on November 13.

Most of the dead were in the Bataclan watching Eagles of Death Metal.

The band escaped the carnage by hiding in a dressing room backstage and later told how they want to return to Paris to finish their performance.

In a Facebook post, Eagles of Death Metal thanked U2 and said they had “reminded us that the bad guys never take a day off, and therefore we rock ‘n rollers cannot either… and we never will”.

Eagles of Death Metal paid tribute to “everyone in the world who continues to prove that love, joy and music will always overcome terror and evil”.

Apple Watch and Android Wear Head on

Who would have thought that one fine day an innovation by the name of Apple Watch will change the way we look at traditional wristwatches which have been around for decades. It was a typical case of “coming and conquering” which as per International Data Corporation has catapulted Apple to be the second largest manufacturer of wearables in the world. However, Android Wear with the launch of Samsung Gear 2 in October 2015 gave a fresh turn to this rivalry. The wearable comes with a comparatively lower price than Apple Watch and can be paired with a wide range of hardware including the iPhone itself.

The basic purpose of a smartwatch other than being a time piece is to push notifications and alerts, and this is where Apple Watch and Google Android Wear do fairly well. The former does better with the visuals while the latter has an edge in providing business related push notifications including emails, calendar markings and text messages by easily synchronizing with the handset. Also, users of Android Wear can receive QR codes directly on the watch once a trip is planned in Google Calendar. Having said that, Apple Watch has features such as mobile payments, health tracking etc, which are sufficient to keep it on the top.

Comparing the performance of both wearables, Apple Watch uses S1 processor and is far more responsive than its competitor. The Android Moto 360 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor which lags in performance, and the loading time is also quite slow.
When it comes to the design, Apple Watch has a polarized square dial compared to Android Moto 360, which is circular and goes down well with the typical design associated with a classy wristwatch. Add to this, the Android Wear also offers Swiss Watch Face combining technology and style. This surely means something, since in 2012 Apple paid $21 billion to Swiss Federal Railway just as to use its popular design in the iOS6 clock icon.

Having done the basic comparison, Google is eyeing to score big time with Project Ara – expected to be launched in 2016 – where it aims to enable exchanging of components from its Smartphones . The idea here is to replace any module from a device which has started to become obsolete; for example, an older camcorder can be replaced with a HD one without having to change the handset. Google might incorporate this technology into its Android Wear making it a product you can use for the lifetime without it getting outdated.

As with the pricing, Android Wear offers some budget friendly solutions compared to Apple Watch. The standard Apple Watch is priced at $349, while the Android’s Moto 360 2015 is available for $299. While we have to wait to find out which brand becomes the favorite in the coming days, check out techspooks for latest updates on software, android apps, smartphones, gadgets and lot more.

Do You Really Know Religion?

0

Religion is a topic that we often find at the forefront of news stories. It seems like no matter what happens; people will find a link to religion. There are even huge political debates fuelled by religious arguments. It’s impossible to ignore this subject if you’re reading any news story or following social media.

The problem is, religion is talked about so much, yet people know so little about it. Everyone’s heard of the main religions, the ones you hear about the most. Christianity is often in the news, for a number of reasons. Whether it’s the Pope visiting America, or someone finding a piece of toast that looks like Jesus. Then, of course, it gets in the news for much darker reasons too. The other religion we often hear a lot about is Islam. And, when I say we ‘hear a lot’ about it, I mean it’s in the news a lot. Most of the time, it’s talked about for the wrong reasons, and we aren’t told much about the actual religion. Instead, we’re fed facts and figures and told things that we’re led to believe are true. As a result, most of the public end up with a distorted view of Islam and the Muslim community.

(Image: https://goo.gl/BzLVUl)

Of course, the same can be said of Christianity too. Often, we’re only shown radical Christians in the news, people with beliefs so far off the scale they seem crazy. Media outlets do this because it sells. People love to see a religious nut talk about crazy stuff. But, it ends up having a negative effect on religion in general. The public start to see religion as a bad thing, something that brainwashes people. It makes sense when you think about it. If we’re only shown the religious extremists, we start to get a blanket view of religion. We aren’t shown stories of everyday Christians or Muslims doing good things through religion. We’re only shown the crazy people that take a distorted view of religious teachings.

Religion isn’t a bad thing. If you knew about it, then you’ll already be aware of that. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, these aren’t cults meant to brainwash people. They’re a source of hope for so many people all over the world. People choose to follow a religion because they like what it teaches them. They like the sense of hope it gives them, the joy it brings. Religion is also a great way of bringing people together and forming a community. Many people turn to it when they’re looking to find a new meaning.

If you think religion is bad and teaches people to be crazy and evil, then you’re wrong. Start learning more about different religious teachings so you can be more informed. Don’t let the media blur your vision and stop you from seeing the truth. You don’t have to be a person of faith to learn about these things. The more you understand, the more you’ll be amazed at how distorted the media’s representation of religion is.

Business Professionals Continue to Succeed in Politics

0

There are many prime ministers and parliament members throughout the world who have one thing in common. This common thread is the fact that many of these successful politicians have roots in the business world.

Although the US seems to dominate the discussion regarding business people making it into politics, a look at Azmi Mikati’s profile, as well as others online, demonstrates that this trend is quite true abroad as well. There is a long list of politicians with prior business experience, which has helped give them the tools they need in order to resolve some of the most pressing economic issues that face countries.

Politicians with experience in business have often been involved in telecom and other industries that account for a good portion of a country’s economy. In the Middle East, telecom has become especially popular is the environment becomes more business-friendly, leading to a rise in influential leaders with strong business backgrounds. Influential business owners in the telecom business have a broad reach that often includes several countries outside the Middle East, giving them a bigger picture of the global economic situation that will influence.

Politicians and would-be politicians can forge relationships with leaders in other countries far more easily when their companies have operated on an international level. Several skills from the business world translate well into politics. Negotiation is an important skill that business professionals learn that also translates well to the political world, especially in an era where there are so many sources of conflict in the world.

Many politicians who rise to national prominence in their respective countries start by initially holding cabinet or ministry positions. Although it may seem as though these positions are of little consequence, they allow business professionals to put their experiences to use and gain a greater knowledge of the political experience.

Philanthropy often plays a major role in the lives of successful business people, and this interest influences how well they are often able to address their countries’ most difficult problems as politicians. In addition to philanthropy, many business professionals who go into politics also serve in an educational capacity. Examples of educational activities that some politicians take part in include serving on a Board of Trustees or being on advisory councils. An involvement in educational and philanthropic activities also leads to a greater ability to develop and oversee programs that result in economic growth in countries affected by war or other hardship.

Some of the most popular philanthropic activities among business owners with political ambitions include setting up foundations that provide ongoing support. Foundations are often in honor of a professional’s parents or other important people in their lives who have helped shape who they are.

Some of the charitable organizations and foundations that business professionals in politics favor include groups that assist with health care, as well as educational and cultural needs. As many countries today have seen a lot of warfare, politicians engaged in humanitarian causes have had a positive following. Helping to make a genuine difference in the lives of those in need is one thing that makes a difference for politicians.

Jubilee of Mercy: Pope Francis Opens Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica

Pope Francis has opened the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome to launch the Catholic Church’s Year of Mercy.

Tens of thousands attended a Mass in St Peter’s Square for the start of Pope Francis’ “revolution of tenderness”.

The Mass took place amid tight security with extra police and soldiers deployed, and a no-fly zone imposed.

Under the year’s theme of mercy, Pope Francis has said priests can absolve women who have had abortions.

During the jubilee celebrations, one of the most important events in the Roman Catholic Church, pilgrims travel to Rome and religious sites around the world.

At the end of the Mass, Pope Francis opened the huge bronze Holy Door. He said that by passing through it, Catholics should take on the role of the Good Samaritan.

It is the first time the Holy Door has been opened since the Great Jubilee in the 2000 called for by St John Paul II. It has been bricked up since then.

Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI, 88, also attended today’s event.Pope Francis opens Holy Door 2015

Italian security forces are on high alert following recent attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, California.

Visitors to St Peter’s Square had to pass through metal detectors and undergo bag and body checks.

Announcing the extraordinary jubilee in March, Pope Francis said the Holy Door was a “Door of Mercy, through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God who consoles, pardons and instills hope”.

For the first time, the pontiff has instructed churches and cathedrals to take part in the tradition of the Holy Door, to help Catholics mark the jubilee at home rather than coming to Rome.

Pope Francis has long signaled his wish to change the Church’s approach from condemnation of wrongdoing to a Church that is more forgiving and understanding of its flock.

This extraordinary jubilee year is seen as a practical way of giving expression to that wish.

Pope Francis took many by surprise when he announced in September that, as part of the jubilee, parish priests across the world would be allowed to absolve repentant women who asked for forgiveness for having an abortion, even though Church teaching still terms abortion a grave sin.

What Are Jubilee Years?

Jubilee years are rooted in the Old Testament tradition of freeing slaves and prisoners once every 50 years, a concept that died out within Judaism but was taken up by Pope Boniface VIII for the Catholic Church in 1300.

Pilgrimages to Rome were at the heart of the original jubilee years, and attracted hundreds of thousands of pilgrims to the city, many willing to pay for “indulgences” – the eradication by the Church of the spiritual debt arising from sin.

It was a tradition that not only contributed copious cash to the Vatican’s coffers, but also contributed to the theological turmoil that led to the establishment of rival Protestant churches across much of northern Europe.

The last Jubilee was called by St John Paul II to mark the millennium, and this Holy Year of Mercy starts on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 2015, and will end on the Feast of Christ the King on November 20, 2016.

Oscar Pistorius Released on Bail after Murder Conviction

Oscar Pistorius has been granted bail while he awaits sentence for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013.

Judges changed the South African Olympic athlete’s conviction from manslaughter to murder last week. The double-amputee has already served one year in prison.

Oscar Pistorius, 29, now faces a minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment – to be set after a hearing on April 18, 2016.

The Paralympic champion will also appeal against his murder conviction in the Constitutional Court, his lawyer has said.

Bail has been set at 10,000 rand ($700). Oscar Pistorius was deemed not to be a flight risk by Judge Audrey Ledwaba.

He can remain under house arrest at his uncle’s home until sentencing next year, and will be electronically tagged. He also has to hand over his passport.

Oscar Pistorius will be able to leave the house between 7AM and midday, but will only be able to move within a 12 miles radius.

He is currently under house arrest after spending one year of his original five-year sentence in jail.

In his bail affidavit, Oscar Pistorius said he had no income. During the hearing, his lawyer said he was only able to pay a sum of 10,000 rand for his bail.

Oscar Pistorius killed Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day after shooting four times through a locked toilet door.

Last week, South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein accepted prosecution arguments and ruled that the lower court did not correctly apply the concept of “dolus eventualis” – whether Oscar Pistorius knew that a death would be a likely result of his actions.

San Bernardino Massacre: Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik Had Target Practice before Attack

Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, who were behind the San Bernardino attack that killed 14 people last week, had target practice days before, the FBI has said.

Tashfeen Malik and husband Syed Farook visited ranges in the Los Angeles area, said David Bowdich, assistant director of the FBI’s Los Angeles office.

David Bowdich said both were radicalized and had been “for some time”.

The US is investigating last week’s attack, which happened at a health care centre, as an act of terrorism.

However, David Bowdich said there is no evidence yet that last week’s tragedy, the most deadly terror attack in the US since 9/11, was plotted from overseas.

The FBI did not have an investigation open on restaurant inspector Syed Farook before he and his wife opened fire on his colleagues at a work event at the Inland Regional Center.San Bernardino shooters Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik

They were both killed hours later in a shoot-out with police.

Investigators said they found 19 pipes that could have been turned into bombs at the couple’s apartment, rather than the 12 previously reported.

A photo obtained by ABC News shows the couple arriving at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport from Saudi Arabia in July 2014.

According to US officials, Syed Farook traveled to Saudi Arabia and returned about two weeks later with Tashfeen Malik, who was able to come to the country on a fiancé visa.

Syed Farook’s father told Italian newspaper La Stampa his son sympathized with ISIS and was fixated with Israel.

The family’s lawyer said he had recently told them co-workers had mocked his beard, and that the family knew he had two handguns and two rifles.

But they did not know about the arsenal of weapons the couple had amassed.

Tashfeen Malik reportedly praised ISIS on Facebook on the day of the attacks.

The Department of Justice said on December 7 it is monitoring any anti-Muslim sentiments or attacks that may emerge in the wake of the mass shooting.

Pascal Cotte: Secret Portrait Found under Mona Lisa

According to French scientist Pascal Cotte, an image of a portrait underneath the Mona Lisa has been found beneath the existing painting using reflective light technology.

Pascal Cotte said he has spent more than 10 years using the technology to analyze Leonardo’s most celebrated artwork.

He claims the earlier portrait lies hidden underneath the surface of the Mona Lisa painting.

A reconstruction shows another image of a sitter looking off to the side.

However, the Louvre Museum has declined to comment on Pascal Cotte’s claims because it “was not part of the scientific team”.Secret portrait under Mona Lisa

Instead of the famous, direct gaze of the painting which hangs in the Louvre Museum in Paris, the image of the sitter also shows no trace of her enigmatic smile, which has intrigued art lovers for more than 500 years.

However, Pascal Cotte’s claims are controversial and have divided opinion among Leonardo experts.

The scientist, who is the co-founder of Lumiere Technology in Paris, was given access to the painting in 2004 by the Louvre.

Pascal Cotte has pioneered a technique called Layer Amplification Method (LAM), which he used to analyse the Mona Lisa.

It works by “projecting a series of intense lights” on to the painting, Pascal Cotte said. A camera then takes measurements of the lights’ reflections and from those measurements, the scientist said he is able to reconstruct what has happened between the layers of the paint.

The Mona Lisa has been the subject of several scientific examinations over more than half a century. More recent techniques include infrared inspections and multi-spectral scanning.

Pascal Cotte has claimed his technique is able to penetrate more deeply into the painting.

He said: “We can now analyze exactly what is happening inside the layers of the paint and we can peel like an onion all the layers of the painting. We can reconstruct all the chronology of the creation of the painting.”

Leonardo da Vinci is believed to have worked on the painting between 1503 and 1517 while working in Florence and later in France.

There has long been debate about the Mona Lisa’s identity. But for centuries, it has been widely believed that she is Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine silk merchant.

However, Pascal Cotte has claimed his discoveries challenge that theory. He believes the image he has reconstructed underneath the surface of the painting is Leonardo’s original Lisa, and that the portrait named Mona Lisa for more than 500 years is, in fact, a different woman.

He said: “The results shatter many myths and alter our vision of Leonardo’s masterpiece forever.

“When I finished the reconstruction of Lisa Gherardini, I was in front of the portrait and she is totally different to Mona Lisa today. This is not the same woman.”

He also claims to have found two more images under the surface of the painting – a shadowy outline of a portrait with a larger head and nose, bigger hands but smaller lips.

Pascal Cotte says he has found another Madonna-style image with Leonardo’s etchings of a pearl headdress.

San Bernardino Shooting: Donald Trump Calls for Ban on Muslims Entering US

Donald Trump has called for a ban on Muslims entering the US, in the wake of the deadly San Bernardino shootings.

In a campaign statement, the Republican presidential hopeful said a “total and complete” shutdown should remain until the US authorities “can figure out” Muslim attitudes to the US.

At a rally in South Carolina hours later, Donald Trump repeated the pledge, to loud cheers.

Criticism from the White House and other Republicans was swift.

The Republican frontrunner’s comments were contrary to US values and its national security interests, a statement from the White House said.

Republican Jeb Bush, also running for president, said Donald Trump was “unhinged”.

Donald Trump’s statement was delivered as the US comes to terms with its deadliest terror attack since 9/11.

Last week a Muslim couple, believed to have been radicalized, opened fire and killed 14 people at a health centre in San Bernardino, California.

On December 6, President Barack Obama made a rare Oval Office address in response to the attack and warned against the US falling prey to divisiveness.

Donald Trump’s statement to reporters on December 7 said polling by the Center for Security Policy, a conservative think-tank, indicated that 25% of Muslims in the US believed violence against America was justified.

“Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why, we will have to determine.

“Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”

When asked by The Hill if that included Muslim Americans who may currently be abroad, his spokeswoman said: “Mr. Trump says everyone.”

The director of the Council on American Islamic Relations, Nihad Awad, said Donald Trump sounded like the leader of a lynch mob rather than a great nation.

Soon after his statement was released, Donald Trump’s Republican rival Ben Carson called on all visitors to the US to “register and be monitored” during their stay.

However, his spokesman added: “We do not and would not advocate being selective on one’s religion.”

Another Republican presidential hopeful, Senator Lindsey Graham, urged all those running to condemn Donald Trump’s remarks, which they did.
