Anthony Senecal: Donald Trump’s Ex-Butler Investigated over Anti-Barack Obama Remarks

0

Secret Service has launched an investigation after Donald Trump’s ex-butler, Anthony Senecal, called for the death of President Barack Obama.

In a Facebook post, Anthony Senecal wrote that Barack Obama “should have been taken out by our military and shot as an enemy agent in his first term”.

Anthony Senecal worked for Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, for nearly 30 years.

However, the Trump campaign quickly disavowed Anthony Senecal’s remarks, saying: “He is not employed by Mr. Trump, and hasn’t been since June of 2009.”

Donald Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks added in a statement: “We strongly condemn these horrible comments from Mr. Senecal.”

Anthony Senecal’s post, which was not public, was first reported by Mother Jones, but he later confirmed its authenticity to several news organizations.

On May 12, Anthony Senecal, 84, told CNN that President Barack Obama should be “hung” outside the White House. He also called the White House the “White Mosque”.

The New York Times profiled Anthony Senecal in March, saying despite retiring in 2009 he has stayed at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as “a kind of unofficial historian”.

According to the publication, Anthony Senecal “understands Mr. Trump’s sleeping patterns and how he likes his steak (“It would rock on the plate, it was so well done”), and how Mr. Trump insists – despite the hair salon on the premises – on doing his own hair”.

Mustafa Amine Badreddine: Top Hezbollah Commander Killed in Damascus

Top Hezbollah commander in Syria’s war Mustafa Amine Badreddine has been killed in Damascus.

Mustafa Amine Badreddine, 55, died in a large explosion near Damascus airport, the Lebanon-based militant group said in a statement on its al-Manar website.

He is charged with leading the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in Beirut in 2005.

Hezbollah supports Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad and has sent thousands of fighters into Syria.Mustafa Amine Badreddine killedd

The US treasury, which imposed sanctions on Mustafa Amine Badreddine last July, said at the time he was “responsible for Hezbollah’s military operations in Syria since 2011, including the movement of Hezbollah fighters from Lebanon to Syria, in support of the Syrian regime”.

Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen TV had earlier said that Mustafa Amine Badreddine died in an Israeli airstrike. Israel has not commented on the claim.

Announcing Mustafa Amine Badreddine’s death, Hezbollah said in an initial statement: “He took part in most of the operations of the Islamic Resistance since 1982,” referring to the group’s military wing.

The second statement, on al-Manar’s website, said: “The investigation will work on determining the nature of the explosion and its causes and whether it was a result of an air, missile or artillery attack.

“We will announce further results of the investigations soon.”

Al-Manar said Mustafa Amine Badreddine would be buried in Beirut on May 13.

Born in 1961, Mustafa Amine Badreddine is believed to have been a senior figure in Hezbollah’s military wing.

He was a cousin and brother-in-law of Imad Mughniyeh, who was the military wing’s chief until his assassination by car bomb in Damascus in 2008.

According to one report, a Hezbollah member interrogated by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), described Mustafa Amine Badreddine as “more dangerous” than Imad Mughniyeh, who was “his teacher in terrorism”.

Mustafa Amine Badreddine and Imad Mughniyeh are alleged to have worked together on the October 1983 bombing of the US Marine Corps barracks in Beirut that killed 241 personnel.

Serena Williams Eating Food Dog Before Reaching Italian Open Quarters

Serena Williams got sick after eating dog food hours before reaching the Italian Open quarters.

The world No 1 tennis player tried “a spoonful” of food meant for her dog, Chip, before beating fellow American Christina McHale in straight sets in Rome.

Serena Wlliams said: “I thought <<what the heck, I’m gonna try a piece, it looks good>>.

“Fast forward two hours, I just ran to the toilet like I thought I was going to pass out. It did taste weird. It tasted kind of like house cleaner.”

In a video posted on Snapchat, Serena Williams explained she sampled a dish of chicken and rice offered on a “doggy menu” at her hotel.

The 34-year-old said: “I force-swallowed it, I don’t know what they put in these dog foods, but Chip liked it.

“I don’t think it’s consumable for humans. They should have wrote that! So now I feel really sick. It was just a spoonful, but I don’t feel so good.”

Serena Williams defeated McHale 7-6 (9-7) 6-1 and set up a meeting with Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat fellow Russian Daria Gavrilova, in the last eight.

Donald Trump and Paul Ryan Totally Committed to GOP Unity

Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan have said they are “totally committed” to the GOP unity in a statement following their meeting.

Donald Trump and Paul Ryan are trying to find common ground after the House speaker said he could not endorse the presumptive Republican nominee.

Paul Ryan has said Donald Trump lacked conservative principles.

“We had a great conversation this morning,” they wrote in a joint statement.

“While we were honest about our few differences, we recognize that there are also many important areas of common ground.”

Donald Trump and Paul Ryan said they would be having “additional discussions” but think they can unify the party and win the election.

At a press conference following the meeting, Paul Ryan said he was “very encouraged” by what he heard from Donald Trump.

Donald Trump arrived for the meeting at the Republican National Committee (RNC) headquarters in Washington amid protesters brandishing placards.

Afterwards, RNC chairman Reince Priebus, who mediated the talks in his office, said it was a success.

In December 2015, Paul Ryan harshly criticized Donald Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the US.

Donald Trump said it was “not what this party stands for and more importantly it’s not what this country stands for”.

However, on May 11, Donald Trump appeared to soften, saying it was “just a suggestion”.

Paul Ryan, who ran as 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s vice president, clashes with Donald Trump on many issues, including religious freedom and trade.

He has remained popular on Capitol Hill, after being urged to take over as Speaker of the House of Representatives in the autumn.

Many who view him as a more electable figure than Donald Trump have urged him – in vain – to run for president.

However, more Republicans are throwing their support behind Donald Trump, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Donald Trump is one of the least politically experienced nominees in US history, having never held elected office.

That outsider status has appealed to voters who feel let down by Washington.

A recent Gallup Poll shows that two in three Republican-leaning voters view Donald Trump favorably.

Dilma Rousseff Suspended by Brazil’s Senate

Brazil’s suspended President Dilma Rousseff has condemned the move to impeach her as a “coup” and a “farce”, denying she has committed any crimes.

Dilma Rousseff, 68, was addressing the nation on TV for the first time since senators voted overnight to suspend her for budgetary violations and put her on trial.

She vowed to fight the “injustice” by all legal means.

Vice-President Michel Temer has now officially taken over as interim leader and has appointed a team.

Respected conservative Henrique Meirelles, who headed the central bank under leftist ex-President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, becomes finance minister.Dilma Rousseff impeachment 2015

Michel Temer will serve while Dilma Rousseff’s trial takes place. It may last up to 180 days, which would mean Dilma Rousseff would be suspended during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, which start on August 5.

Brazil’s senators had voted to suspend her by 55 votes to 22 after an all-night session that lasted more than 20 hours.

Dilma Rousseff is accused of illegally manipulating finances to hide a growing public deficit ahead of her re-election in 2014.

In her TV speech, flanked by ministers at the presidential palace, Dilma Rousseff said that she may have made mistakes but had committed no crimes, adding: “I did not violate budgetary laws.”

She said: “What is at stake is respect for the ballot box, the sovereign will of the Brazilian people and the constitution.”

Branding the process “fraudulent” and saying her government was “undergoing sabotage”, Dilma Rousseff vowed to fight the charges against her and said she was confident she would be found innocent.

She accused the opposition of leading the impeachment because they had vehemently opposed all the advances she and her predecessor, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, had made for the Brazilian poor and lower middle classes.

After her speech, Dilma Rousseff left the presidential palace and shook hands with supporters lining the pathway.

In another speech outside Dilma Rousseff told supporters she could feel their “love and energy” on what she called a “tragic” day for the country.

Meanwhile, Michel Temer has nominated a 21-strong cabinet.

Nissan to Acquire Controlling Stake in Rival Mitsubishi Motors

0

Nissan has announced it will acquire a 34% stake in rival Mitsubishi Motors, in the wake of the latter’s recent scandal over fuel efficiency.

According to the Japanese auto giant, the all-share deal is valued at 237 billion yen ($2.2 billion).

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has called the deal “a breakthrough transaction and a win-win” for both companies.

The tie-up is subject to regulatory approval as well as the backing of Mitsubishi shareholders.

If it is approved, the deal is expected to close by the end of 2016 and make Nissan the largest shareholder in Mitsubishi Motors.Mitsubishi Nissan deal 2016

The strategic alliance will extend an existing partnership between Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors forged over the past five years.

Both will co-operate in areas including purchasing, technology and sharing platforms.

Carlos Ghosn said: “We will support Mitsubishi Motors as they address their challenges and welcome them as the newest member of our enlarged alliance family.”

Nissan’s Alliance family is built around a 17-year cross shareholding agreement with French auto maker Renault. Nissan has also previously acquired stakes or signed partnerships with other carmakers including Daimler.

Mitsubishi Motors CEO Osamu Masuko said he hoped the deal with Nissan would restore confidence in the company: “It is not an easy task to regain trust, so through the alliance with Nissan, we will be starting a path towards tackling this difficult task.”

The tie-up was announced as Nissan reported a 14.5% rise in net profit to 523.8 billion yen ($4.4 billion) for the 12 months to March.

Nissan said rising demand in North America and China helped to offset unfavorable currency movements and weakness in emerging markets.

For the financial year to March 2017, Nissan is estimating flat profit growth and an 11% fall in operating profit due to the strengthening yen.

Carlos Ghosn said: “Encouraging demand for new models, combined with continued cost efficiency, helped us withstand currency headwinds and volatile trading conditions in several emerging markets.”

Nissan’s recently launched models including the Maxima, Altima and Titan pick-up trucks were expected to contribute to global sales growth in the coming year.

George Zimmerman Auctions Gun Used to Shoot Dead Trayvon Martin

George Zimmerman will auction the gun used to shoot dead unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

The seller, a neighborhood watchman, was cleared over the death of the 17-year-old in February 2012 after saying he acted in self-defense.

George Zimmerman said he was selling the gun partly to raise funds to fight “Hillary Clinton’s anti-firearm rhetoric”.

Trayvon Martin’s family would not “comment on the actions of that person”, they said.

“The Trayvon Martin Foundation is committed to its mission of ending senseless gun violence in the United States,” the tennager’s family said in a statement to media in Florida.

“This election season, we are laser focused on furthering that mission.”

The one-day online auction opens at 11:00 EDT on May 12. The opening bidding price for the 9mm pistol is set at $5,000.

On the auction site, George Zimmerman refers to the gun as an “American icon”, and says it was recently returned to him by the US Department of Justice.

George Zimmerman told Florida radio stations he was behind the auction.

Donald Trump Gives New Conflicting Account on Muslim Ban

Donald Trump has softened his stance on temporarily barring Muslims from travelling to the US.

Responding to remarks by newly elected London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Donald Trump told Fox News Radio the ban was “just a suggestion”.

Sadiq Khan has expressed concern that he would not be able to travel to the US under a Trump administration because of his Muslim faith.

The Republican presidential hopeful had offered to make an “exception” for Sadiq Khan.

Sadiq Khan refused Donald Trump’s offer, saying the New York businessman’s views were “ignorant” and would make the UK and the US “less safe”.

Donald Trump proposed a ban on Muslims entering the US after attacks in Paris killed 130 people last year.

The suggested ban has been widely criticized in the US and abroad but Donald Trump until now has stood by the proposal, saying it was needed to ensure US security.Donald Trump RNC conspiracy

Donald Trump said on May 11: “It’s a temporary ban. It hasn’t been called for yet.

“This is just a suggestion until we find out what’s going on.”

He has shifted positions in the past on a variety of issues only to change his stance days later.

Donald Trump has often given conflicting accounts on issues including his tax plan, abortion and transgender people accessing public toilets.

This flexibility has led to concerns among Republican Party leaders about his candidacy.

Top Republicans including House Speaker Paul Ryan have said they are not ready to support Donald Trump in the general election.

The billionaire will meet Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan and others on May 12 in an attempt to resolve differences.

Meanwhile, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican Mitt Romney – who ran against President Barack Obama in 2012 – separately raised questions about Donald Trump’s tax returns.

Donald Trump has so far refused to release his tax records – a common practice among presidential nominees. Hillary Clinton has posted her past eight tax returns on her website.

Mitt Romney said: “It is disqualifying for a modern-day presidential nominee to refuse to release tax returns to the voters, especially one who has not been subject to public scrutiny in either military or public service.”

Takata Posts Third Full-Year Loss

0

Takata reported its third full-year loss in four years as it grapples with the rising costs of recalling airbags.

The Japanese airbag maker announced a net loss of 13.1 billion yen ($120.5 million) for its financial year ending in March.

Takata has been hit by a huge recall of faulty, potentially deadly, airbags used by car makers worldwide, which may affect more than 100 million vehicles.

The fault has been linked to the loss of 11 lives and more than 100 injuries.Takata airbag recall Mazda and Mitsubishi

The company has acknowledged some airbag inflators explode with too much force and spray metal shrapnel into the car.

Takata has paid out $70 million in fines so far and the company’s market value has dropped more than 80% since 2014.

Some 50 million vehicles have been recalled globally and last week, US authorities added up to 40 million more.

US regulators believe the volatile chemical used in the inflators, ammonium nitrate, can cause airbags to explode with excessive force.

Globally, 12 car makers are affected with Honda being the worst hit.

Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Ford have said they will stop using Takata airbags containing ammonium nitrate for their future models.

Takata also produces seatbelts, child seats, and other safety-related car parts.

For the current year, the company forecast a net profit of 13 billion yen.

Takata shares ended on May 11 2.5% higher, after losing 11% this week and more than 80% over the year.

Prince Death: Dr. Michael Schulenberg Questioned by Detectives

Dr. Michael Schulenberg, who saw Prince twice in the weeks before he died at the age of 57, has been questioned by Minnesota detectives.

A police warrant has also revealed that the doctor prescribed medication to Prince on April 20 – the day before he died.

The document does not say what was prescribed or whether the singer took the drugs.

The police also conducted another search of Prince’s Paisley Park home and seized medical records from the hospital where Dr. Michael Schulenberg worked.

Prescription painkillers were in Prince’s possession following his sudden death, officials have told reporters.

However, it is unclear what role, if any, those drugs may have played.

The results of a post-mortem examination of Prince have discounted suicide. A medical examiner said full results could take several weeks.

Bernie Sanders Wins West Virginia Primary

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has won the West Virginia primary in the Democratic race for the presidential nomination.

Bernie Sanders still trails rival Hillary Clinton in the overall contest for delegates but this win keeps his slim hopes alive.

In a victory speech that also attacked Republican Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders said: “We are going to fight for every last vote.”

Donald Trump was declared the winner in West Virginia and in Nebraska.

The billionaire’s last remaining rivals dropped out last week but remained on the ballot.

However, Donald Trump faces a huge task in trying to get the Republican party behind him, as doubts persist about his substance and style.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, the GOP’s highest-ranking elected official, has said he is unable to endorse Donald Trump because he lacks conservative principles.

With Donald Trump now the Republican presumptive nominee, it was the Democratic race that provided the focus for May 10 primaries.

Bernie Sanders’s victory in West Virginia, where Hillary Clinton convincingly beat Barack Obama in 2008, will prolong the Democratic contest.

In a speech delivered in Salem, Oregon, which holds its primary next week, Bernie Sanders vowed to fight on: “We have now won primaries and caucuses in 19 states and let me be as clear as I can be – we are in this campaign to win the Democratic nomination.”

Bernie Sanders also pointed to polls as evidence that he remained the best Democratic candidate to beat Donald Trump.

He turned his fire on Donald Trump for insulting women, Hispanics, Muslims, African Americans and veterans.

Despite his differences with Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders said, they had one common goal – defeating Donald Trump.

Exit polls in West Virginia suggested one-third of those who voted for Bernie Sanders would switch to Donald Trump in a general election between the two men.

12 Ways To Stay Healthy!

A lot of people try and live a healthy lifestyle, but it can be hard when illnesses can occur at any time. The stresses of work and family mean we can end up eating too much food and not exercising enough. We also forget to go to appointments where we can find out earlier if something is up. Staying healthy is the ultimate way of prolonging your life. Here are the best 12 ways to keep your mind and body healthy.

Eat breakfast

It’s hard to fit everything in before going to work in the morning. By the time you get up early and have had a shower, there is often no time to enjoy a healthy breakfast. But having breakfast can help you keep to a healthy weight. If you don’t have breakfast, you can end up snacking all morning meaning you will be consuming a higher calorie intake. Breakfast is also perfect for helping you feel motivated till lunch. If you don’t eat anything, you can end up feeling distracted and losing concentration on the work you are meant to be doing. Have a bowl of cereal or enjoy some toast; both of these don’t take long to make. An egg is also a popular choice for breakfast and will keep you full until lunch.

Join an exercise class

Another way to stay healthy is to join an exercise class in your local area. Consider what kind of exercise you fancy trying. By choosing something that interests you, you will be more likely to get involved and make the effort to go. An exercise class is always good for helping you to maintain your weight. It’s a set time you can go and exercise every week. Arrange to go to a class with a friend; this will encourage you to go every time. Otherwise, you will let your friend down. Remember if you don’t like the class you attend, try a different one.

Healthy weight

The best way to stay healthy is to keep to a healthy weight. Once you become overweight, you may end up with health problems such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart problems. You can find out if you are a healthy weight by checking your Body Mass Index  (BMI). You can work out your BMI by checking your height against your weight. You might be surprised to know that over 9% of Americans over 20 were classed as either overweight or obese when checking their BMI. Once you know yours, you can make movements to try and lose weight by eating healthier and exercising regularly.

Attend check-ups

If you want to stay healthy, you should be ensuring that you go for check-ups at your doctor when necessary. As we get older, there are several checks that you should go for including getting your cholesterol checked every five years. Your blood sugar level and blood pressure should be tested every three years. Read about more check-ups you should go for here. Don’t delay in going to the doctors if you are worrying about a mole or a lump you have found. Who knows what it could be, and it’s a good idea to get it checked sooner rather than later. It’s probably nothing, but it will help ease your worry if it isn’t anything to stress about.

Go to the dentist

Just as it’s so important to go to the doctor regularly, you should be ensuring that you go to the dentist at least once a year to ensure you stay healthy. They can check your teeth to make sure that there are no cavities that have developed. If you don’t go to the dentist, you will end up having to get teeth removed and could end up with gum disease. Remember to take your kids once they start developing teeth.

Visit opticians

It’s so easy in our busy lives to forget to attend eye appointments. But your eyes are so important, and you need to ensure that you are looking after them properly by attending appointments. You should go every couple of years to the opticians. They will be able to tell you how your eyes are doing and will inform you if you need glasses or contact lenses. You will be surprised to know that the opticians can also tell if you have a brain tumor. If they spot unusual symptoms, they will refer you on to your doctor for further investigation.

Meditate

You need to look after your mind, as well as your body, and a good way to do this is to meditate. Meditation is a fantastic way to clear your thoughts so that you can feel happier in your life. It’s also great for calming you down after having a stressful day. You can meditate in your own home, or you can look into attending a class where you can do it. It can be easier as you will follow the instructor. You can listen here at The Alternative Daily for info on how to add meditation into your life.

Wash your hands

A lot of people pick up illnesses because they are not washing their hands after touching food. After preparing food, you should be ensuring that you wash your hands. You can’t touch raw meat and then pick up something else as any bacteria would have passed onto that food. And then once cooked, you could end up causing food poisoning. You should also ensure you wash your hands after you have been to the toilet. Although we have limited time at work to meet that important deadline, it’s essential that we wash our hands before leaving the bathroom. Remember to get your kids to do it too. Otherwise, they will be passing on germs as well.

Don’t take too many pills

In life when we get a bad belly or have a headache, we decide to take a tablet to ease the pain. But you may be surprised to know that too many pills are not good for you and your body. As we talked about previously, too many painkillers can damage your liver and the function of your kidneys. Your body can also be desensitized to the tablets, meaning the next time you take them, it won’t be effective. Make sure you limit yourself to how many you take, and if the problems keep happening, it might be wise to go to the doctor to find out why. Remember to stick to the amount they suggest to take, as it can be easy to become addicted to painkillers.

Cut out stress

If you want to live a healthy life, you need to make sure that you don’t get too stressed out. The more stressed you get, the more of a chance you could develop anxiety and depression. As this article explains, you need to try and cut down on the stressful factors in your life. Consider what is making you so unhappy. If you and your partner are always fighting, it might be time to separate. Or your job might be making you miserable, which means you should look for a new one. Try and eliminate the stress in your life so you can stay happy. You should smile more so that your whole body will be happier. Spend time with people that make you feel healthier and happier.

Control your eating

To ensure you stay healthy, you need to make sure you are controlling your eating habits. The best way to do this is to figure out why you are eating so much. It might be that you are eating when you are unhappy to combat those feelings. Or you might have associated eating with a hobby such as watching a movie or television. Also, when you are going shopping, you need to ensure you go when you have a full stomach. If you don’t, you will end up buying extra food that you fancy as you are hungry. Try and buy more food which you can freeze as well. If you buy fresh food that needs eating, you could end up consuming way too many calories in one day! Once you know why you are overeating, it becomes much easier to control.

Stop smoking

To stay healthier for longer, you should try and stop smoking. The tobacco in smoking can lead to chest and lung problems. Talk to your doctor about the fact that you want to cut it out of your lifestyle, and they can recommend what you can do to cut it out. Going cold turkey is a bad decision because most people will end up craving it and giving in. Try nicotine patches or chewing gum to help you cut back on smoking. A lot of people are also trying e-cigarettes which help you feel like you are smoking but cuts out the tobacco element.

Remember the most important thing is to enjoy your life. It’s so short that you need to enjoy every moment, but live a healthy life too.

5 Types Of Software Your Business Needs To Invest In

In recent years, we’ve gotten to a point where our day-to-day business operations would be a mess without technology. We’d be lost without smartphones, constant email access, and Microsoft Office. Most of our daily tasks are completed with pieces of software on PC’s and laptops. We’ve got to a point where we are so reliant on them; we couldn’t actually operate without them! If you’ve just started a new business, or you need a technological refresher, here are five types of software packages to consider.

Accounting

I don’t know of any businesses that don’t use accounting software to manage those all-important finances. The most popular piece of software used for this task is SAGE. Most businesses use it as a means of managing their accounts, although there are plenty of alternatives on the market as well. Don’t be scared to spend big money on important software like this; it’s crucial to the well-being of your business.

Backup

You need a good backup procedure in place to ensure those all-important files don’t get erased accidentally. While you don’t necessarily need software to get this done, it can make the job so much easier. You’ll find automated services that will ensure your files are backed up on a daily basis. You don’t have to do anything, so the risk of losing those files should never become an issue.

Office Suite

We’ve already mentioned about Microsoft Office, and the truth is; you’ll struggle to find a business that doesn’t use it in some form. Still, there are alternatives out there if you aren’t so keen on lining Microsoft’s pockets. The most popular alternative office suite is OpenOffice, which is entirely free and sports many of the same features. It isn’t identical, though, so you might find that documents don’t look quite the same when opened with Microsoft’s suite.

Sales

Any company that is involved in sales will need software to ensure those sales go smoothly. This is an area where custom software is often built for the needs of the company. Software escrow is important to consider when it comes to custom software of any kind. You need to ensure that your company will continue to operate effectively even if something goes wrong with that software. You don’t want to be in a position where you can’t process any sales because the software company has gone out of business and shut everything down.

Security

In order to protect all that valuable confidential data, you need to make sure you’ve got adequate security in place. Software packages like AVG and Avast offer free ways to keep your devices secure. When it comes to business, however, you’re ideally going to want to invest in paid security software. Some of the added extras are just novelty features, but you’ll also get increased protection, which is always worth it. The last thing you want is to deal with viruses and corrupted data.

There are more types of software that can benefit your company. All you need to do is look around, and you’ll find something that can help your business to thrive.

More than 90% of buildings in the evacuated city of Fort McMurray have survived the massive wildfire, Alberta’s provincial premier Rachel Notley said on a visit.

She said the hospital and most schools were intact but 2,400 out of 25,000 structures had been burnt.

“It was a miracle we got the entire population out safely,” Rachel Notley told reporters.

More than 80,000 people were evacuated from Fort McMurray last week.

Nobody was killed in the fire but two people died in a car crash when they were leaving the city.

Officials said they hoped to provide a schedule within two weeks for the return of residents.

Alberta government declared a state of emergency and promised C$100 million ($77 million) in cash to evacuees whose homes have been gutted.

According to officials, the battle to contain the wildfires reached a turning point on May 9 thanks to drizzle and favorable winds.

Premier Rachel Notley visited Fort McMurray for a first look at the destruction caused by the massive fire. She said she was “very much struck” by the power it had to cause devastation.

The wildfire covered 622 sq miles on May 8, Rachel Notley said, and was about 20-25 miles from the neighboring province, Saskatchewan.

The gas in Fort McMurray has been turned off and the power grid is damaged, while the water is not drinkable.

The team from the provincial government will begin preliminary planning on repairing damage in Fort McMurray.

Philippines Elections 2016: Digong Duterte Wins Presidency after Opponents Withdrawal

Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte has won the Philippine presidential elections, following the withdrawal of his opponents.

Although the official result has not yet been declared, main rival Mar Roxas admitted defeat after polls gave Digong Duterte an unassailable lead.

The 71-year-old Maverick anti-crime candidate said he accepted the mandate with “extreme humility”.

Digong Duterte stirred controversy during campaigning with his incendiary comments.

He has credited his success to his tough stance on law and order.Digong Duterte wins Philippines presidency

Rodrigo Duterte’s record as the crime-crushing mayor of the southern town of Davao, once notorious for its lawlessness, earned him the moniker The Punisher and resonated with voters.

Other driving issues of the election campaign were pervasive corruption, as well as the poverty and inequality experienced by many Filipinos despite economic growth under outgoing President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino.

According to election officials, there was a record turnout at polling stations, with more than 81% of the 54 million registered voters casting a ballot. Senators and about 18,000 local officials including mayors are also being elected.

The PPCRV (Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting) poll monitor said that with 90% of the presidential ballots counted, Digong Duterte had more than 14.8 million votes – about 39%. The PPCRV is accredited by the election commission to monitor counting but its reporting does not represent an official tally.

Mar Roxas, a former interior minister and Digong Duterte’s closest rival, had 8.6 million votes.

As the extent of his lead became clear, Digong Duterte told AFP news agency: “It’s with humility, extreme humility, that I accept this, the mandate of the people.”

Mar Roxas accepted his rival’s win, saying: “There are many tears in the room. Let me tell you this is not a time for tears. For our country, we have had a peaceful, successful transfer of power.”

Another key rival, Senator Grace Poe, was the first to concede defeat, promising to “co-operate with the healing process” after a turbulent campaign.

In the election to be vice-president, Leni Robredo, a social activist, is currently slightly ahead of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, the son of a former dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Benigno Aquino is standing down as the constitution limits presidents to one six-year term.

As Digong Duterte rose in opinion polls ahead of voting, Beningno Aquino had tried to unite other candidates against him, warning his election could mean a return to dictatorship for the Philippines.

North Korea Congress Ends with Mass Rally in Pyongyang

0

North Korea is holding a huge rally in capital Pyongyang to mark the end of the Workers’ Party Congress, the first in 36 years.

The congress of North Korea’s ruling party cemented the position of leader Kim Jong-un, elevating him to the role of party chairman.

On May 10, state media announced that Kim Jong-un’ sister, Kim Yo-jong, had been elected to the ruling committee.

The Congress also endorsed the national policy of building nuclear capability alongside economic development.

Hundreds of thousands of North Koreans have joined the rally in Pyongyang, where Kim Jong-un was seen waving to the crowds and chatting with military and party officials.

People marched through the square waving pink paper flowers, colored balloons and red party flags. Floats were also moved through the square, some of them carrying mock-ups of missiles.North Korea mass rally after congress

The confirmation of a new title for Kim Yo-jong had been widely expected.

Kim Jong-un’s younger sister is already influential as vice-director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department, but her elevation to the central committee is seen as a further consolidation of power around her brother.

More than 100 foreign reporters have been granted visas to cover the congress, although only a few were, briefly, allowed in to watch the meeting.

The congress, which began on May 6, also launched a new five-year plan for the economy, which has been hit by some of its strongest sanctions yet after the country’s recent nuclear and rocket tests.

Kim Jong-un also used a speech to say North Korea would not use its nuclear weapons unless its sovereignty was threatened.

China has sent a message of congratulations to Kim Jong-un on his new position, though it declined to send a representative to the gathering.

Panama Papers Posted Online

The Panama Papers relating to more than 200,000 offshore accounts have been posted online.

The huge database belonging to Mossack Fonseca law firm became accessible on the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) website offshoreleaks.icij.org.

The documents have shown how some wealthy people use offshore companies to evade tax and avoid sanctions.

The papers were leaked by a source simply known as “John Doe”. The company denies any wrongdoing.

Last week Mossack Fonseca issued a “cease and desist ” order to prevent the database being made public but the organization that has the documents, the ICIJ, appears to be going ahead.

The papers have revealed the hidden assets of hundreds of politicians, officials, current and former national leaders, celebrities and sports stars.

They list more than 200,000 shell companies, foundations and trusts set up in more than 20 tax havens around the world.

Among those whose affairs have come under scrutiny include, Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia, Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine and Mauricio Macri of Argentina, UK PM David Cameron along with Argentinean soccer star Lionel Messi, actor Jackie Chan and Spanish movie director Pedro Almodovar.

Iceland’s PM Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson resigned after the matter came to light. What are Panama Papers

Mossack Fonseca says it has never been accused or charged with criminal wrongdoing. It says it is the victim of a hack.

Offshore companies are not illegal but their function is often to conceal both the origin and the owners of money, and to avoid tax payments.

Some 2.6 terabytes of information – 11.5 million documents – was originally given to the German newspaper, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, by “John Doe” more than a year ago.

The ICIJ insists that today’s online database is not be a data dump of the kind used by the WikiLeaks organization.

The ICIJ said: “The database will not include records of bank accounts and financial transactions, emails and other correspondence, passports and telephone numbers. The selected and limited information is being published in the public interest.”

On May 9, 300 economists signed a letter urging world leaders to end tax havens, saying they only benefited rich individuals and multinational corporations, while boosting inequality.

Although the name John Doe is used, the gender of the source has not been revealed.

Mercury Makes Rare Transit In Front of the Sun

Mercury has made a rare transit in front of the Sun, the third such pass of 14 the planet will make this century.

The little planet’s sojourn between Earth and the Sun lasted from 11:12 until 18:42 GMT.

Mercury will not make another transit until 2019 and then 2032.

The event was impossible – and dangerous – to view with the naked eye or binoculars, but astronomy groups worldwide were offering the chance view it through filtered telescopes.

Live views from space and ground telescopes were also available online.

Photo Wikipedia
Photo Wikipedia

They show Mercury as a tiny black circle, smaller but darker than many sunspots, slowly traversing the Sun’s giant yellow disc.

Mercury spins around the Sun every 88 days, but its orbit is tilted relative to the Earth’s. It is that discrepancy which makes it relatively rare for the three bodies to line up in space.

From Western Europe, north-western Africa and much of the Americas, Mercury’s seven-and-a-half-hour glide across the Sun was visible in its entirety.

The only land masses to miss out completely are Australasia, far eastern Asia and Antarctica.

Because Mercury is so small – just one-third as big as Earth and, from our perspective, 1/150th of the Sun’s diameter – its transit can only be glimpsed under serious magnification; the “eclipse glasses” used by thousands of people to view last year’s solar eclipse will be useless.

To avoid permanent eye damage, any telescope must be fitted with a solar filter before being trained on the Sun.

Mercury has already been visited by two NASA probes: Mariner 10 flew past in 1974 and 1975 and Messenger spent four years in orbit until its planned crash landing in 2015.

Takata Airbag: Honda to Recall Additional 20 Million Faulty Airbags

Shares in Japanese airbag maker Takata fell as much as 3.5% in morning trade before recovering, as media reports suggested more recalls over faulty airbags supplied by the company.

An additional 20 million Takata airbags would be recalled by car maker Honda, Nikkei newspaper reported on May 8.

Meanwhile Nikkei 225 index rose by 0.7% to close at 16,216.03, following last week’s gains in the US.

In China, shares fell in response to the disappointing trade data released on May 8, which showed that both exports and imports fell more than expected in April.

The mainland benchmark Shanghai Composite fell 2.8% to close at 2,832.11 points while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fared better. That market index closed up 0.2% at 20,156.81.

In South Korea, the Kospi index fell 0.5% to close at a one-month low, at 1,967.81 points.

Australia’s benchmark ASX/200 rose 0.5%, closing at 5,320.70.

Philippines Elections 2016: Digong Duterte Tipped to Win Presidency

Filipinos are voting for a new president and other leaders, with outspoken mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte the favorite to win.

Five candidates are running but Digong Duterte led polls ahead of voting, despite controversial comments while campaigning and a hard-line stance.

The campaign has been driven by public concerns about the economy, inequality and rampant corruption.

More than 100,000 police officers are on duty amid violence ahead of voting.

On May 9, seven people were shot dead in an ambush by unknown gunmen in the town of Rosario, in Cavite province, south of the capital, Manila.

The region had been considered an area of concern because of its political rivalries, said local media.

On May 8, a mayoral candidate was murdered in the south of the country.

President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino is standing down as the constitution limits presidents to one six-year term. Filipinos will also pick a vice-president and local officials.

The election campaign has focused on reforming the economy, infrastructure, tackling corruption and crime and on the territorial disputes with China in the South China Sea.Philippines elections 2016

Rodrigo Duterte has run a campaign focused on law and order issues, but made many controversial statements, including saying that he would butcher criminals.

A former state prosecutor nicknamed “The Punisher”, Rodrigo Duterte has been mayor of the southern city of Davao for more than 22 years.

He recently joked that, as mayor, he should have been first to rape an Australian missionary murdered in a prison riot, but he later apologized.

Digong Duterte’s closest rivals in the opinion polls are Grace Poe – a former schoolteacher and first-term senator – and Mar Roxas, a former investment banker and the grandson of the first president of the Philippine Republic.

President Benigno Aquino has been leading attempts to bring together other candidates in an effort to defeat Rodrigo Duterte.

He warned that if Digong Duterte were to be elected, it could mean a return to dictatorship.

In a final rally on May 7, Benigno Aquino appealed to voters: “I need your help to stop the return of terror in our land. I cannot do it alone.”

However, the other four candidates – also including Jejomar Binay and Miriam Defensor-Santiago – refused to step aside.

A vice-president, senators and about 18,000 local officials including mayors will also be elected.

More than 54 million Filipinos are registered to vote across the archipelago of 7,000 islands.

Voting began at 06:00 local time and is due to end at 17:00.

Voting could be extended in some areas, because of problems with new electronic voting equipment, election officials said.

Sharon Osbourne said: “He’s been using alcohol and prescription drugs for the past year and a half. That’s true. That’s very true. Everybody knows he’s been struggling with this his entire life.

“I never knew he was using prescription drugs. I knew he was drinking occasionally, but I didn’t realize to the extent.”

Sharon Osbourne’s comments came days after Ozzy made a Facebook post apologizing to his family and friends for his “insane behavior” during that period and giving a positive update on his sobriety.

Donald Trump: “Taxes for Rich People May Go Up”

In an apparent reversal of his stated policy, Donald Trump has said taxes for rich people may have to go up.

The Republican presidential hopeful told ABC’s This Week: “On my plan they’re going down. But by the time it’s negotiated, they’ll go up.”

Donald Trump also apparently reversed his position on the minimum wage, saying: “I’m allowed to change.”

The billionaire is all but certain to become the official Republican candidate for the November presidential election.

Donald Trump’s tax plan says the wealthiest individuals would get a tax break.

However, the real estate mogul told This Week his “optimum plan” would be negotiated with Democrats, but not be approved as such.

Donald Trump’s top priorities would be lowering taxes on businesses and the middle class, not helping the rich.

On the minimum wage, Donald Trump said: “I haven’t decided in terms of numbers. But I think people have to get more.”

He has previously said he is against increasing the minimum wage.

When asked about the change of position, Donald Trump said: “I’m allowed to change. You need flexibility.”

Fort McMurray Wildfire Spreads Towards Saskatchewan

The Fort McMurray fire is growing further and could spill in to neighboring province of Saskatchewan, Canadian officials say.

Hot, dry and windy conditions are hampering efforts by hundreds of firefighters to tackle the blaze.

The blaze has already caused the evacuation of 80,000 people from the oil city of Fort McMurray, and thousands are still stuck to the north.

Their evacuation, originally planned for May 7, will now take place on May 8.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said: “In no way is this fire under control.”

The wildfire now covers an area of more than 700 sq miles, which includes areas still ablaze and areas already burnt.

It was being propelled by high winds to the north-east towards Saskatchewan.

Smoke from the fire has already spread there, and air quality statements have been issued for both Saskatchewan and North-West Territory.

“Fire conditions remain extreme,” said the Alberta Emergency Management Agency on May 7.

There is the possibility of rain on the next days, but officials say the fire can only be put out by sustained heavy rains.

Earlier this week, most evacuees headed south but some fled north, sheltering in work camps beyond Fort McMurray.

Thousands have since been shuttled out by road and air, with small convoys passing through the fire-ravaged city on May 7.

The blaze has ruined entire neighborhoods, with residents warned it could be some time before they can return. Officials say the power grid is damaged and the water not drinkable.

As much as a quarter of the country’s oil production has been halted by the fire, raising concerns about the effect on the Canadian economy.

Kim Jong-un: North Korea Will Not Use Nuclear Weapons Unless Its Sovereignty Is Threatened

0

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has said his country will not use nuclear weapons unless its sovereignty is threatened, state media report.

North Korea first tested nuclear weapons in 2006, after withdrawing from an international treaty.

The secretive country has made repeated threats of nuclear strikes against South Korea and the US.

However, Kim Jong-un reportedly told the Workers’ Party Congress in Pyongyang that he is willing to normalize ties with previously hostile countries.

It appears Kim Jong-un tends to send mixed messages and movement observed at North Korea’s nuclear site is consistent with preparations for another nuclear test.Kim Jong un aunt plastic surgery

State media also quoted Kim Jong-un as saying there should be more talks with South Korea to build trust and understanding.

Kim Jong-un said North Korea would “faithfully fulfill its obligation for non-proliferation and strive for global denuclearization”.

The meeting is the first congress of North Korea’s ruling party since 1980.

The KCNA news agency reported Kim Jong-un as saying: “As a responsible nuclear weapons state, our Republic will not use a nuclear weapon unless its sovereignty is encroached upon by any aggressive hostile forces with nukes.”

Kim Jong-un said the government would “improve and normalize the relations with those countries which respect the sovereignty of the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] and are friendly towards it, though they had been hostile toward it in the past”.

North Korea withdrew from the nuclear non-proliferation treaty in 2003 and started testing nuclear weapons three years later.

International sanctions on North Korea were tightened in March this year after it claimed to have tested a hydrogen bomb and launched a missile into space.

The sanctions include export bans on materials used in nuclear and military production as well as restrictions on luxury goods and banking.
