British ambassador in Iran says the Tehran regim supported the atack on UK’s embassy

Dominick Chilcott, the British ambassador in Iran claims the ruling regime at Tehran is likely to have supported an attack on the UK’s embassy in the country.

Dominick Chilcott told the BBC Iran is a country in which such action is only taken “with the acquiescence and the support of the state”.

Hundreds of protesters attacked the UK embassy in Tehran on Tuesday.

Diplomats working at the Iranian embassy in London have left Britain after being expelled.

The Iranian diplomats expelled from the UK flew out of Heathrow on a chartered Iran Air flight on Friday afternoon.

The Iranian diplomats’ expulsion was ordered by Foreign Secretary William Hague after the British embassy in Tehran was stormed on Tuesday.

Iran said it regretted the incident, which it described as “unacceptable behaviour by a small number of protesters”.

Dominick Chilcott, the newly appointed British ambassador to Iran, said the attack was likely to have had state backing.

“Iran is not the sort of country where spontaneously a demonstration congregates and then attacks a foreign embassy. That sort of activity is only done with the acquiescence and the support of the state.

“And there are a number of reasons why, with the benefit of hindsight, it’s very clear that this was a state-supported activity.”

Dominick Chilcott also said some within Iran’s ruling regime may have underestimated the British response.

“The risk is that certain people in the regime who liked the idea of confrontation, because they felt it would rally people to the flag, miscalculated how strong the response would be,” he said.

“They probably didn’t expect us to send home the Iranian embassy in London and, reading between the lines, you can see in the way they have responded to that move, some remorse in having provoked it. I think that might apply more generally too.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said the UK’s relationship with Iran had “taken a very serious knock”.

“Something really bad happened when the Iranian authorities allowed those people to overrun our embassy compounds, and it is quite right that we have been very clear in our response – as have many other European countries who have withdrawn their ambassadors for consultations.

“It doesn’t mean we’re cutting off all diplomatic relations with Iran. It doesn’t mean we are in any way lessening our determination to try to find a diplomatic solution to the nuclear question, which is immensely important to Europe and the whole world, and we will continue to work tirelessly to find a negotiated solution.”

On Wednesday, Foreign Secretary William Hague told MPs: “If any country makes it impossible for us to operate on their soil, they cannot expect to have a functioning embassy here.”

He said there had been “some degree of regime consent” in the attacks on the embassy and on another UK diplomatic compound in Tehran.

William Hague also said all UK diplomatic staff in Tehran had been evacuated and the embassy closed.

He said relations between the UK and Iran were now at their lowest level, but the UK was not severing relations with Tehran entirely.

Iran’s foreign ministry described the British move as “hasty” and said Iran would take “further appropriate action”, Reuters news agency quoted state TV as saying.

Germany, France and the Netherlands announced on Wednesday that they were recalling their ambassadors to Tehran for consultation, and Norway said it was temporarily closing its embassy there as a precaution.

Hundreds of protesters – whom Iran described as “students” – massed outside the embassy compound on Tuesday afternoon before scaling the walls and the gates, burning British flags and a car.

Another UK diplomatic compound in northern Tehran, known locally as Qolhak Garden, was also overrun and damaged.

William Hague said the majority of those taking part had been members of a regime-backed Basij militia group.

He said the private quarters of staff and the ambassador had been ransacked, the main embassy office set on fire and personal possessions belonging to UK diplomats stolen.

The US, EU and UN Security Council also condemned the attacks.

Last week, the US, Canada and the UK announced new sanctions against Iran, including measures to restrict the activities of the Iranian central bank.

The UK said then it was severing all financial ties with Iran.

The move followed a report by the UN’s nuclear watchdog that said Iran had carried out tests “relevant to the development of a nuclear device”.

Iran denies the accusations, saying its nuclear programme is solely for peaceful purposes.

On Sunday, Iran’s parliament voted by a large majority to downgrade diplomatic relations with the UK in response to the recent action.

Black marlin spears fisherman Stephen Schultz through the mouth

Stephen Schultz, a young fisherman from Marietta, Georgia, cheated death after a 600lb black marlin leapt out the water and speared him in the mouth with its sharp spear-like bill.

Stephen Schultz had been fishing off the coast of Pinas Bay, Panama, with his sister and father and was trying to reel in the monster catch when he was horrifically wounded.

The boy was sat on the edge of the boat and had hooked the thrashing marlin on to his line as his family watched.

Few seconds after watching the giant fish leap into the air, the marlin is pulled towards the vessel and lunges towards Stephen Schultz, impaling him in the mouth with its giant sharp bill.

Stephen Schultz’s father can be heard shouting, “Oh my God”, as the huge fish falls off the side of the boat and back into the water.

The boy’s mouth was impaled during the accident, with the marlin’s sword piercing his cheek and nasal cavity.

Stephen Schultz was rushed to hospital after the horrific incident, as his family sailed back to Panama before he was flown 100 miles north to National Hospital in Panama City.

Amazingly, Stephen Schultz escaped the horrendous incident in 2008 without any scarring.

Describing the moment he was impaled by the fish, Stephen Schultz said he had been wrestling with the marlin for 25 minutes before he was speared.

“He jumped once, facing away from the boat and turned around in mid-air; he was about 15 feet away; went back into the water, made one more jump toward the back of the boat and his bill struck me on the left side of the face and knocked me onto the ground.”

Stephen Schultz’ sister Alison, who filmed the accident, said: “I wasn’t too sure what happens when you go deep sea fishing.

“I wasn’t sure if they were supposed to be that close. So I was like, I’ll get this on film. Then it was in the boat. Before I could react, it was already at us. So I just kept rolling.”

Stephen Schultz’s father Robert added: “I’ve heard of people having marlins come up. Usually, they’re in control and they can jump in a vertical type of situation.

“It won’t be where they take a run at you. We thought we were safe.”

200 Muslim cabbies are illegally parked everyday at the Islamic Cultural Centre in Manhattan

Residents of the wealthy Upper West Side of Manhattan are outraged that their streets are being taken over multiple times each day for the 45-minute service as 200 Muslim cabbies are illegally parked outside a Mosque during a prayer service.

The Muslim taxi drivers are double and triple parking in a huge line that forces traffic into the oncoming lane.

The situation has flared up and on one occasion a cop telling a taxi driver to move on was swarmed by other hacks – and had to call for reinforcements.

When several other police cars arrived the taxi driver was handcuffed and led away.

Muslims have been parking illegally at the Islamic Cultural Centre for four years but the row has blown up because a road that connects to it that has been closed for the whole time has now reopened.

Muslim prayers take place five times a day but the busiest is on Fridays at lunchtime when up to 300 worshippers – and 200 taxi drivers – are in attendance.

Most of the taxi drivers appear unrepentant with one claiming: “I have to pray. I have no choice but to break the rules.”

Cabbie Abdoulaye Diallo, a 30-year-old immigrant from Guinea, told DNA info that he had got several $75 fines for parking illegally outside the mosque but he did not care.

“For me, my prayer is more important, because that’s what I’m going to take with me the day I die.”

Upper West Side residents however are increasingly anxious that they cannot cross the road safely.

“It’s an accident waiting to happen,” said James Beale, the resident manager at a Trump tower block that is next to the mosque.

“It’s a very dangerous situation. It’s like all the rules of the road are thrown aside,” James Beale told DNA info.

Abdur Rahman, an assistant imam at the mosque, said it had told worshippers to respect the parking rules but they had failed to do so.

But Abdur Rahman also claimed that the parking rules should be more flexible to accommodate worshippers’ needs.

Obama family lit up the National Christmas Tree at White House

US President Barack Obama got into the holiday spirit last night as the First Family lit up the new National Christmas Tree at White House.

President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and their daughters Sasha and Malia took the stage next to Santa Claus and Kermit the Frog and officially marked the start of the Christmas season with some carolling before they flipped the switch.

The 26ft Colorado blue spruce was planted in March on the Ellipse, a park that lies between the White House and the National Mall.

Strong winds in February toppled the previous tree, which stood in the park since 1978.

In remarks delivered during the tree-lighting ceremony, attended by hundreds, Barack Obama briefly retold the story of the birth of Jesus Christ and linked the religious leader to his own faith.

“And He grew up to become a leader with a servant’s heart who taught us a message as simple as it is powerful: that we should love God, and love our neighbour as ourselves.

“That teaching has come to encircle the globe. It has endured for generations and today it lies at the heart of my Christian faith and that of millions of Americans,” President Obama said.

Barack Obama urged the crowd to be generous and to help others in need during the holidays.

“In this season of hope, let’s help those who need it most: the homeless, the hungry, the sick and shut-in,” Barack Obama said.

“In this season of plenty, let’s reach out to those who struggle to find work or provide for their families.”

President Barack Obama welcomed troops returning home in time for the holiday, and asked Americans to express their gratitude to service members.

“In this season of generosity, let’s give thanks and honour to our troops and our veterans and their families who’ve sacrificed so much for us,” he said.

Barack Obama was joined at the ceremony by his wife, Michelle; daughters Sasha and Malia; and mother-in-law Marian Robinson.

Before the ladies hit the switch, President Obama said: “This is the new tree. I know it’s not quite as big as the old tree. But it’s going to take time to grow. But we’re going to fill it up with some spirit and start a new tradition right now.”

Michelle Obama also took the stage to read Clement Clarke Moore’s poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas” with Muppet star Kermit the Frog and Santa Claus, as children gathered around.

The lighting ceremony, hosted by television’s Carson Daly, included performances of Christmas carols and tunes by pop group Big Time Rush, English singer Ellie Goulding, pop band OneRepublic, country singer Rodney Atkins, soul songstress Marsha Ambrosius and the Airmen of Note, a jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force.

The new National Christmas Tree was planted in March in a New Jersey nursery.

The ceremony marks the 89th holiday tree lighting.

The tradition began with President Calvin Coolidge in 1923.

55 cars collided in a chain-reaction crash on a fogbound highway near Nashville, Tennessee

One person was killed in just one of the 55 collisions in a chain-reaction crash after a small car ploughed into the back of a U.S. Mail truck on a fogbound highway near Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday.

It appeared the car struck stopped traffic during the morning commute, said Ray McLaughlin, a district chief with the Hendersonville Fire Department.

As the fog lifted, damaged vehicles could be seen along a mile of Vietnam Veterans Parkway in Hendersonville.

“I would compare it to a racetrack when there’s been a pileup,” Ray McLaughlin said.

“Everyone started bouncing off one another.”

One person was killed in just one of the 55 collisions in a chain-reaction crash after a small car ploughed into the back of a U.S. Mail truck on a fogbound highway near Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday

Ray McLaughlin said emergency workers counted 179 vehicles stopped at the crash scene, 55 of which had collided.

The dead man was Paul Warren, 28, of Hendersonville, according to Shawna Zodi, a spokeswoman for the Hendersonville Medical Centre.

Shawna Zodi said eight people were released after treatment for minor injuries.

Other than the one death, most of the injuries were neck and back complaints, Ray McLaughlin said.

Jim Carr, 41, of Hendersonville, said the curved overpass section of the highway had a thin layer of ice on it and the fog hindered people from stopping in time to avoid cars in front of them.

“Once you had contact, you just looked in your rear view mirror and held on tight,” Jim Carr said of the cars crashing into one another.

Jim Carr said after the wrecks, people got out of their cars and started checking other vehicles for injured passengers or drivers. He got out and tried to walk to the beginning of the pileup.

“The fog was so thick, I walked for a while but I didn’t see the end,” Jim Carr said.

Tom Johnstone, a forecaster with the National Weather Service office in Nashville, said the temperature in the region dropped to 25 degrees around the time of the crash occurred.

There were reports to the weather service of freezing fog and a raised section of the highway where the crash occurred had become slick.

Diana Denney, 57, was on her way to work in a café with her apron on when she saw the cars stopped in front of her. She pumped her brakes and came to a stop, but then her SUV was hit by other vehicles.

“I started hearing all this banging behind me,” Diana Denney said of the sound of the crashing vehicles.

“I have never been involved in a wreck like this.”

Jim Carr said he’s going to take more precaution next time.

“I think I’ll just go in late next time on a foggy day.”

Joe Amendola: “Jerry Sandusky may plead guilty if further accusers emerge”

Joe Amendola, the former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky’s lawyer, said yesterday that he would consider “possible alternatives” if more sexual abuse charges were filed against his client.

Joe Amendola said he had not discussed pleading guilty with Jerry Sandusky and that he still maintained he was innocent of charges against him.

Jerry Sandusky has been accused of 40 criminal accounts of abusing eight boys, some on the university campus, over 15 years.

Joe Amendola, the former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky's lawyer, said yesterday that he would consider “possible alternatives” if more sexual abuse charges were filed against his client

Joe Amendola said that Jerry Sandusky has never considered a plea in his case.

Jerry Sandusky, 67, is awaiting a preliminary hearing on the charges.

Joe Amendola said the topic of a guilty plea came up as a “what-if” question about potential additional charges – and that if more charges were filed, Jerry Sandusky would only then discuss the possibility of a plea.

Earlier this week, Jerry Sandusky was accused of sexually abusing a young boy more than 100 times after meeting him through his charity The Second Mile in the 1970s.

The 29-year-old new accuser, who is not part of the criminal case, said in a lawsuit that Jerry Sandusky threatened to harm his family to keep him quiet.

The accuser, identified only as John Doe, claimed he had never told anyone about the abuse until Jerry Sandusky was charged last month.

The alleged victim felt “tormented” after learning others were said to have been abused after him, according to a statement read out by his lawyer Jeff Anderson.

“I am hurting and have been for a long time because of what happened, but feel now even more tormented that I have learned of so many other kids were abused after me,” the man said.

The alleged victim became the first plaintiff to file suit in the Penn State child sex abuse scandal.

The lawsuit claimed Jerry Sandusky abused the boy in encounters at the coach’s home, in a Penn State locker room and on football game trips.

Jerry Sandusky has acknowledged that he showered with boys but denied molesting them.

Judy Lewis, the secret love child of Clark Gable and Loretta Young, died at 76

Judy Lewis – the secret love child of Clark Gable and Loretta Young – has died of cancer aged 76.

Judy Lewis sensationally revealed in her 1994 memoir Uncommon Knowledge that she was conceived in 1935 when Loretta Young, 22, and the married Clark Gable, 34, were shooting the classic movie Call of the Wild.

Loretta Young, a single Catholic woman, concealed her pregnancy and placed her daughter in an orphanage at eight months. The actress brought her daughter into public view at 19 months, saying the girl was her adopted child.

Judy Lewis - the secret love child of Clark Gable and Loretta Young - has died of cancer aged 76

Terrified her secret would come out, Loretta Young did all she could to cover up clues about her daughter’s origins. There are no photographs of Judy Lewis up to two. Up to seven the photos show her wearing a bonnet.

Judy Lewis recalled: “My ears stuck out, just like my father’s did. So I had plastic surgery when I was seven. My surgeon had told my mother that an operation of this nature was extremely painful.

“He suggested it should wait until I was older. But she insisted.”

Judy Lewis saw her father, Clark Gable, who died in 1960, only once, when she was 15.

She said of the encounter: “As he left, he gave me a kiss on my forehead, but I didn’t know he was my father. I cry when I watch his films. Why didn’t he ride up on a white horse and rescue me?”

There is a Gone With The Wind scene where Clark Gable plays affectionately with his fictional daughter. “I like to imagine that he was thinking of me when he was playing those scenes,” Judy Lewis said.

She added that perhaps the famous “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn” was a truer reflection of his feelings towards her.

“At the time, what Loretta Young did was completely successful,” said Leonard Maltin, a film critic and Hollywood historian.

“The general public never had any inkling that she had done this. It protected her stardom and her image as a wholesome young woman.”

Judy Lewis sensationally revealed in her 1994 memoir Uncommon Knowledge that she was conceived in 1935 when Loretta Young, 22, and the married Clark Gable, 34, were shooting the classic movie Call of the Wild
Judy Lewis sensationally revealed in her 1994 memoir Uncommon Knowledge that she was conceived in 1935 when Loretta Young, 22, and the married Clark Gable, 34, were shooting the classic movie Call of the Wild

In 1940, Loretta Young married Thomas Lewis, and Judy Lewis took his surname – but she was never formally adopted by her stepfather.

“It was very difficult for me as a little girl not to be accepted … by my mother, who to this day will not publicly acknowledge that I am her biological child,” Judy Lewis said in 1994.

Loretta Young’s parenthood was an open secret in Hollywood but Judy Lewis’s friends had been instructed not to tell her.

It wasn’t until Judy Lewis’ wedding that her groom Joseph Tinney finally told her that Clark Gable was her father. She was 23.

Judy Lewis explained: “I grew up surrounded by rumours that Clark Gable was my father. Everyone knew who my parents were, even my closest friends, but no one dared tell me.

“It wasn’t until the night before I was to get married that my future husband told me who my father was. I had told him my suspicions about my mother being my real mother and that I didn’t know who my father was.

“He then said: <<I know everything. It’s common knowledge, Judy. Your father is Clark Gable>>.”

“Twenty-three years of my life had passed and everyone in the world knew about me – but me. I cried then. And I have been crying for most of my life,” said Judy Lewis, who had years of therapy.

Judy Lewis was born in Venice, California, and went on to perform on Broadway and TV in her own career.

She also produced the soap opera “Texas”, a spinoff of “Another World”. In the 1980s, Judy Lewis earned psychology degrees, advocating for children’s rights and counselling teenagers.

Judy Lewis later became a psychotherapist in Los Angeles, something she pursued until her illness. In 1994, she wrote “Uncommon Knowledge”, acknowledging her parentage publicly for the first time.

“The situation in which they found themselves in 1935 would not have posed such a problem in the Hollywood of today,” Judy Lewis wrote in the book.

Before Judy Lewis’ memoir was published, the identity of her parents had long been rumoured.

However, Leonard Maltin said the truth was never truly public until the memoir, in which Judy Lewis describes her mother telling her the truth in 1966.

In the book, Judy Lewis said Loretta Young told her then: “Well, he was your father. He was darling. Sweet and very gentle.

“He was married, so when I discovered I was pregnant with you, I was frantic and terrified. It would have ruined both our careers, a scandal like that.”

Loretta Young, one of Hollywood’s most glamorous screen goddesses of the Thirties and Forties, died in 2000 aged 87. Gable died in 1960 aged 59.

Judy Lewis, a psychotherapist and actress, of Palm Springs, California, died in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, on Friday. Her survivors include her daughter, three half-brothers and her partner, Steve Rowland.

Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining

Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church, an all-white church in Kentucky, has voted to ban interracial couples from joining.

Members of the Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church voted for the resolution after their Sunday service, which says the church “does not condone interracial marriage”.

The church member who crafted the resolution, Melvin Thompson, claims he is not racist and called the matter an “internal affair”.

“I am not racist. I will tell you that. I am not prejudiced against any race of people, have never in my lifetime spoke evil about a race,” said Melvin Thompson, the church’s former pastor who stepped down earlier this year.

“That’s what this is being portrayed as, but it is not.”

Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church, an all-white church in Kentucky, has voted to ban interracial couples from joining

Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church secretary Dean Harville disagrees, saying the resolution came after his daughter visited the church this summer with her boyfriend from Africa.

Stella Harville and Ticha Chikuni – now her fiance – visited the church in June and the man sang a song for the congregation. The two had visited the church before.

Stella Harville’s father said he was counting the church offering after a service in early August when he was approached by Melvin Thompson, who told him his daughter and her boyfriend were no longer allowed to sing at the church.

“If he’s not racist, what is this?” he said.

The vote by members last Sunday was 9-6, the father said. It was taken after the service, which about 35 to 40 people attended. The man said many people left or declined to vote.

The resolution says anyone is welcome to attend services, but interracial couples could not become members or be “used in worship services or other church functions”.

Stella Harville, 24, a graduate student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana, called the vote “hurtful”.

“I think part of me is still in shock and trying to process what’s been going on the past few days,” Stella Harville said.

“I really hope they overturn this.”

Last night the church’s pastor, Stacy Stepp, said that he was against the resolution. Stacy Stepp said the denomination’s regional conference will begin working on resolving the issue this weekend.

The National Association of Free Will Baptists in Tennessee has no official position on interracial marriage for its 2,400 churches worldwide, executive secretary Keith Burden said.

The denomination believes the Bible is inerrant and local churches have autonomy over decision-making.

“It’s been a non-issue with us,” Keith Burden said, adding that many interracial couples attend Free Will Baptist churches.

Keith Burden said the Pike County church acted on its own. He said the association can move to strip the local church of its affiliation with the national denomination if it’s not resolved.

“Hopefully it is corrected quickly,” Keith Burden said.

Mark Moffett spent two days tracking down world’s heaviest insect, giant weta

Mark Moffett, a nature-lover has revealed how he spent two days tracking down a giant insect, weta, on a remote New Zealand island – and got it to eat a carrot out of his hand.

Mark Moffett, 53, from Colorado, found that giant weta, genus Deinacrida of the family Anostostomatidae, is the world’s biggest insect in terms of weight. The insect weighs 71g and is heavier than a sparrow and three times that of a mouse.

The former park ranger discovered the giant weta up a tree and his real life Bug’s Bunny has now been declared the largest ever found.

Mark Moffett came across the cricket-like creature, which has a wing span of 7 inches, after two days of searching on a tiny island.

Giant weta, genus Deinacrida of the family Anostostomatidae, is the world's biggest insect in terms of weight
Giant weta, genus Deinacrida of the family Anostostomatidae, is the world's biggest insect in terms of weight

Giant weta is only found on Little Barrier Island, in New Zealand, although there are 70 other types of smaller weta found throughout the country.

The giants of the species were wiped off the mainland by rats accidentally introduced by Europeans.

After Mark Moffett found the female giant weta he fed it the carrot before putting it back where he found her.

He said: “Three of us walked the trails of this small island for two nights scanning the vegetation for a giant weta.

“We spent many hours with no luck finding any at all, before we saw her up in a tree.

“The giant weta is the largest insect in the world, and this is the biggest one ever found, she weighs the equivalent to three mice.

“She enjoyed the carrot so much she seemed to ignore the fact she was resting on our hands and carried on munching away.

“She would have finished the carrot very quickly, but this is an extremely endangered species and we didn’t want to risk indigestion.

“After she had chewed a little I took this picture and we put her right back where we found her.”

“We bug lovers hear a lot of people who think insects are inferior in some way because of their size, so it was great to see such a big insect.

“This became all the more amazing when we realized that this was the largest insect recorded.”

Giant weta is usually less social and more passive than other weta.

The insect’s diet consists of plants, other small insects and fruit.

Giant weta’ size is an example of island gigantism, which is a biological phenomenon leading to a larger size than their mainland relatives because of their isolation and lack of large predators.

Santa’s beard and hair got stuck in rope while repelling into Palm Beach Gardens Mall

Santa was embarrassed when his beard and hair got stuck in rope while repelling into Palm Beach Gardens Mall, Florida, while horrified children watch.

A man dressed as jolly old St Nicholas was supposed to make a grand entrance at Palm Beach Gardens Mall, Florida.

Instead, the man managed to get his beard tangled in the rope, losing the beard -and his hat – entirely.

It was trouble from the get-go when Santa hesitated and fumbled before clumsily going over the ledge.

An elf helper tried to get Santa off to a good start.

What followed was nearly three minutes of Santa – still suspended in mid-air – trying to descend down to the stage after his beard got tangled in the rappelling equipment.

Santa bounced around and at one point scissor-kicked to try and loosen the stubborn rope.

The elf looked on, helpless at Santa’s plight.

A lone child hopefully cried out: “Santa!”

Two announcers commenting on the event didn’t help the awkward entrance.

“Everybody cheer, everybody cheer Santa on!” the female announcer said to the crowd.

“I think if you guys sing nice and loud, you can help Santa come down!”

The announcer also told the horrified children: “Magic can happen!”

She also encouraged children to sing along with a rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

EU agreed to impose new sanctions on Iran over nuclear programme

The European Union has agreed on new sanctions on 180 Iranian officials and firms over Tehran’s controversial nuclear programme.

EU ministers meeting in Brussels also agreed to work on other measures that could target Iran’s energy sector.

The new sanctions follow a UN report linking Iran to the development of a nuclear weapon. Iran denies the claims.

The EU measures also come two days after hundreds of Iranian protesters stormed the UK embassy in Tehran.

Britain announced on Wednesday it was expelling all Iranian diplomats from London, after pulling its own out of Tehran.

The European Union has agreed on new sanctions on 180 Iranian officials and firms over Tehran's controversial nuclear programme

A spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that the new sanctions would target 39 people and 141 companies and would include the freezing of assets and travel bans.

EU ministers said in a statement: “The council agreed to broaden existing sanctions by examining, in close co-ordination with international partners, additional measures including measures aimed at severely affecting the Iranian financial system, in the transport sector, in the energy sector.”

Foreign ministers failed to agree on an oil embargo against Iran because some EU countries are dependent on Iranian oil.

Ministers said a decision on future measures would be taken no later than January.

EU officials say the latest sanctions are not linked to the storming of the British Embassy in Tehran on Tuesday.

However, ministers denounced the attack and said the EU would take “appropriate measures in response”.

The EU statement did not specify what those would be.

Ahead of the Brussels talks, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said he wanted “an intensification of the economic pressure”, particularly the isolation of Iran’s financial sector.

Last week the US, Canada and the UK announced new sanctions against Iran in the wake of the report from the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), that said Iran had carried out tests related to “development of a nuclear device”.

Iran insists that its nuclear programme is solely for peaceful purposes.

The 27-member EU has already frozen the assets of hundreds of Iranian companies and has adopted measures to prevent new investment and technological assistance to Iran’s gas producing and refining industry.

The EU is yet to release details about the 180 officials and entities targeted by the sanctions.

Despite the IAEA report, Iran was not referred to the UN Security Council because Russia and China were opposed to the move.

Iran expressed regret for the attack on the UK embassy – and another UK diplomatic compound in Tehran – and said a number of protesters had been arrested.

However, the semi-official Fars news agency said on Thursday that police had freed 11 people held over the attacks. There was no explanation for their release.

Valeska Paris, a former Scientologist has claimed she was imprisoned by Church of Scientology for 12 years on board a cruise liner after her family denounced the religion

In an interview with the ABC News Lateline program, Valeska Paris claims Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige sent her to the ship to stop her family from pulling her out of the organization.

“I was basically hauled in and told that my mum had attacked the church and that I needed to disconnect from her because she was suppressive,” Valeska Paris said.

“He decided the ship, and I found out two hours before my plane left, I was woken up in the morning and I was sent to the ship for <<two weeks>.”

Instead of the promised two week stay, Valeska Paris said she was forced into work on the lower levels of the ship for 12 years.

“It’s hot, it’s extremely loud, it’s smelly, it’s not nice. I was sent down there at first for 48 hours straight on almost no sleep and I had to work by myself,” Valeska Paris said.

“I did not want to be there, I made it clear I did not want to be there and that was considered bad ethics, meaning it was considered not right.

“They take your passport when you go on the ship and you’re in the middle of an island. So it’s a bit hard [to escape] and by that time I was 18, I’d been in Scientology my whole life, it’s not like I knew how to escape,” Valeska Paris said.

Valeska Paris was born into a Scientology family in Switzerland, and at the age of six she moved to Scientology’s UK headquarters in East Grinstead, where she was placed in its then youth wing.

At 14 Valeska Paris joined the Church’s elite Sea Organization, signing a contract binding her for a billion years, a commitment that would override her bond with her own family.

Valeska Paris’ mother had denounced Scientology on French TV after her ex-husband Albert Jaquier committed suicide.

A self-made millionaire, Albert Jaquier’s last days were spent in poverty, and in a diary he kept he blamed the Church of Scientology for fleecing him of his fortune.

Valeska Paris says the church was so worried her mother would take her away that David Miscavige intervened, ordering she be taken to the church’s cruise ship.

Valeska Paris described David Miscavige as a psychopath and says he should be put on trial.

“It’s not right for someone to be running the church and basically take advantage of a church and hiding behind religion to live like a king and abuse people around him. That man doesn’t like anyone, he’s a psychopath,” Valeska Paris said.

The Freewinds is used as a base to deliver Scientology’s highest level counseling course known as Operating Thetan Level VIII.

It cruises around the Caribbean docking at small islands. The Church says ships have religious significance to Scientologists because its founder L Ron Hubbard, had researched and ministered the first Operating Thetan levels aboard a ship.

A Scientology promotional video says the ship “stands at the forefront of a growing worldwide movement towards spiritual advancement transporting Scientologists to new realms of freedom”.

In a statement, the Church of Scientology denied Valeska Paris’ claims.

The church said: “She certainly wasn’t <<forced>> to be there. She was also never forced to perform labour in the engine room.

“The Freewinds is a wonderful place, as even Valeska said on numerous occasions. Her allegation that she could only leave the ship with an escort is totally false.”

The Church of Scientology is famous for attracting a celebrity following, particularly among Hollywood’s elite.

Among Church of Scientology’s devotees are Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and John Travolta.

2011 Christmas decorations at White House revealed by Michelle Obama

American First Lady Michelle Obama revealed White House Christmas decorations for this holiday season.

American First Dog Bo is upstaging the Christmas decorations at the White House in 2011.

This year, the Obamas’ Portuguese water dog is in almost every room of the ground and State floors, ranging from a miniature licorice and marshmallow version to a felt design four-and-a-half feet tall.

Michelle Obama welcomed military families to the first viewing of the decorations.

“Shine, Give, Share” is the theme for the Obama family’s third Christmas in the mansion.

The theme translates throughout the public viewing space from gold foil leaf trimming to shiny quartz ornaments.

First Dog Bo made a special appearance in the State Dining Room as military children created holiday ornaments and decorated cookies.

Several decorations honour military families including a Gold Star Families Tree with ceramic gold ornaments carrying personalized messages by families. Tour visitors can also create handwritten notes for the troops.

The usual masterpiece of Christmas at the White House is the official tree, an 18-and-a-half-foot tall balsam fir in the Blue Room. The Christmas tree at White House is decorated with holiday cards created by military children, medals, badges and patches from all the military branches.

“I want to thank all of the troops, all of our veterans and all of our military families,” Michelle Obama said at the unveiling.

“Your service and sacrifice inspire us all.”

The Red Room of White House features fruit, foliage and flowers set in pepperberry- and cranberry-covered vases and a nine-and-a-half-inch tall Bo replica made of buttons.

Denver caterer and event planner David Bondarchuck, who designed the Green Room decorations, said he wanted to enhance the “simple beauty” of the room. “I didn’t want to overdo it,” David Bondarchuck said.

The room was decorated with various hues of green with a bit of “sparkle and shine” including pine cones, twigs, and clear and silver ornaments, David Bondarchuck said.

Bo made a special appearance in the State Dining Room as military children created holiday ornaments and decorated cookies with the White House chefs Cristeta Comerford and Bill Yosses, and White House florist Laura Dowling.

Michelle Obama drew a laugh from the crowd when she said Bo, “the most famous member of the Obama family,” has been a little confused walking around the house and seeing himself in “gigantic form”.

A total of 37 Christmas trees and a 400lb White House made of gingerbread, white chocolate and marzipan also decorate the executive mansion. Some of the handcrafted decorations are made of paper, felt and recycled cans.

Approximately 85,000 visitors are expected to tour the Christmas decorations this December, the White House said.

Nearly 100 holiday volunteers from across the country assisted with the decorations, transforming 16 distinct spaces into works of art.

Tomorrow, the Black Eyed Peas and Kermit the Frog will join the festivies, and the lineup of performers who will help light the National Christmas Tree near the White House.

Carson Daly will host the lighting ceremony, introducing performers including Big Time Rush, Ellie Goulding, the band OneRepublic, country star Rodney Atkins and singer Marsha Ambrosius.

President Barack Obama and his family will officially light the tree.

This will be the 89th year for the holiday tree lighting. The tradition began with President Calvin Coolidge in 1923.

This is the first lighting of a new National Christmas Tree that was planted in March.

It’s a 26-foot-tall Colorado blue spruce from a New Jersey tree nursery. Strong winds in February toppled the last tree that had stood on the Ellipse since 1978.

Arizona: George Loader killed and chopped up a man he suspected of molesting his daughter

George Loader from Arizona has been accused of killing and chopping up a man he suspected of molesting his daughter.

George Loader, 34, is alleged to have scattered the dismembered body parts in the desert after first trying to dispose of them by burning them.

Police found the victim’s head and limbs in separate bags which had dumped on a dirt road in rural Kingman in Arizona.

When police searched George Loader’s home they found a bag of human hair, a box of blood-soaked towels, multiple knives, and a shotgun.

The grisly killing is alleged to have been carried out at the home George Loader shared with girlfriend and three year old daughter and three other children.

A family member tipped off police George Loader had allegedly killed a man called “John” who was staying at his home.

The relative told police George Loader “lost it” when his three-year-old daughter told him that John had touched her in a sexual manner.

George Loader is alleged to have killed the man, who police believe was recently released from prison, in the garage by blasting him at close range with a shotgun.

The victim’s remains were burnt before being placed in trash sacks and dumped.

“The remains were badly burned, and the victim had been decapitated and had limbs removed from his torso,” court documents stated.

Police spokeswoman Trish Carter said the sheriff’s office was withholding the victim’s identity until the medical examiner’s office could positively identify the remains.

George Loader has been charged with first degree murder.

The children living with George Loader have been taken into care by social workers.

Kris Humphries wants to annul his 72-day marriage to Kim Kardashian

Kris Humphries wants to annul his 72-day marriage to Kim Kardashian, as being a fraud.

NBA star Kris Humphries, 26, is seeking to erase marriage to reality star Kim Kardashian, 31, on the grounds of fraud, and filed the papers yesterday.

According to People, Kris Humphries’ Superior Court filing has the box reading “nullity of voidable marriage” marked and checks as the basis the box saying “fraud”.

According to California law, a nullity is granted if the court finds that no valid marriage ever took place.

Along with fraud, grounds for an annulment include bigamy, incest, force or if the couple are under the age of consent.

Kris Humphries’s papers say that if he’s not granted an annulment then he wants a legal separation and not a divorce under any circumstances.

Kris Humphries agrees on the date of separation, however, which he also lists as October 31.

Annulments can be difficult to obtain, with a legal expert telling the publication that Kris Humphries will likely have to prove that fraud was actually committed.

But Kim Kardashian is telling her friends that she absolutely loved Kris Humphries and the marriage just fell apart, according to TMZ, so she’s unlikely to agree with this assessment.

Kardashian family lawyer Scott Weston, who is not dealing with the celebrity couple, said Kim Kardashian will probably fight the matter “unless she’s willing to agree that she defrauded him”.

It could mean Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian will end up in a bitter court battle.

“[Kris] is sensitive to marriage both emotionally and religiously,” a source told People, adding that the move is “symbolic” rather than financially motivated.

“He went into it in good faith and never expected things to turn out this way,” says the source.

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kris Humphries on October 31, citing irreconcilable differences.

Their troubles seemed to start immediately after their wedding and were on display in the season premiere of Kourtney & Kim Take New York.

Kim Kardashian had made no secret of her wedding dreams long before she’d even met Kris Humphries, but now feels that she has to be more realistic when it comes to men.

In an interview with US Glamour magazine, Kim Kardashian said: “I’ll always be a hopeless romantic. It means that I believe and love and the dream of having a perfect relationship, but my idea of it has changed.

“I think I need to not live in a fairytale like that. I think I maybe need to just snap out of it and be a little more realistic. What I want isn’t possible.”

While her sister Kourtney Kardashian has just announced she is pregnant with her second child, Kim fears she may never become a mother.

Kim Kardashian said: “I always wanted what my parents had. And at first I was like, I want six kids. Then I went down to four, then I was down to three, and now I’m just like, maybe I won’t have any. Maybe I’ll just be a good aunt.

“At this moment in my life, I feel like maybe I’m not supposed to have kids and all that. That’s how I feel. Maybe my fairytale has a different ending than I dreamed it would, but that’s OK.”

NBC’s Brian Williams calmly reads the news through a fire alarm live on air

NBC news presenter Brian Williams proved a more-than-steady anchor for the station Tuesday night when he calmly continued his live broadcast through a fire alarm.

Brian Williams barely batted an eyelid when a siren went off in the channel’s 30 Rock studio in New York moments into the Nightly News show.

The newsreader had just started a report about American Airlines filing for bankruptcy when he was interrupted by a drone followed by an automated voice announcement.

But Brian Williams maintained his composure, only once or twice flicking his eyes upwards, as he carried on with the segment.

At one point, as the noise continued, Brian Williams offered an easy chuckle and reassured viewers he was in no danger before reading on.

Brian Williams said: “Forgive us. We have a fire alarm announcement going on here in the studio.”

Very quickly, viewers began reacting on Twitter, asking why someone couldn’t turn off the alarm quicker, while others praised Brian Williams’ cool-headedness.

David Loughran said: “Brian Williams is rewriting the definition of professionalism tonight.”

Brian Williams eventually handed over to his colleague Tom Costello in the channel’s Washington office in the hope the now-high-pitched siren would be fixed in the meantime.

But the alarm buzzed on, through the Herman Cain story and through the lead-in to a story about the siege at the British Embassy in Iran.

Brian Williams took a commercial break, but when he came back so did the alarm.

Each time, Brian Williams kept his cool, reminding viewers everything was fine, even as his voice was again overwhelmed by the sound as he introduced a piece on Mexican drug wars.

Finally, three-quarters of the way through the program, the alarm fell silent.

As for the cause, NBC’s PR spokeswoman Erika Masonhall tweeted an explanation: “This is the first fire alarm in our new NBC Nightly News studio.

“System should have been shut off – but clearly still working out the kinks.”

As he closed the program, Brian Williams said: “With thanks for your co-operation. We hope to get all quiet and see you here tomorrow night.”

Arthur Morgan captured in San Diego after he murdered his 2-year-old daughter Tierra Morgan-Glover

Arthur Morgan III from Ocean Township, New Jersey, was arrested in San Diego, California, on suspicion of murdering his two-year-old daughter by tossing her into a creek still strapped into her car seat.

Arthur Morgan III was captured a week after he allegedly murdered Tierra Morgan-Glover in a New Jersey park while on a court-approved visit.

New Jersey prosecutors today said they will move quickly to extradite Arthur Morgan, who had sparked a nationwide manhunt after fleeing the state.

The father was being held early today in California, but it was not clear when an extradition hearing would be scheduled.

Arthur Morgan’s arrest came just hours after his daughter’s funeral at the Cathedral International in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

The man had been due to take his daughter to see the animated film Happy Feet Two on Monday, November 21.

Arthur Morgan was legally-obliged to return Tierra by 9:00 p.m., but when he did not come back her mother, Imani Benton, called the police.

Imani Benton learned of his arrest when she arrived at a friend’s home yesterday evening and heard people cheering.

Tierra Morgan-Glover was found face down in a stream, still strapped in her car seat, at Shark River in Wall, New Jersey.

An autopsy revealed the little girl was alive when she was tossed into the water.

On Tuesday, three people carried Tierra Morgan-Glover’s tiny coffin into the cathedral while a minister followed with a large stuffed teddy bear.

During a videotaped eulogy, Bishop Donald Hilliard Jr. tried to comfort mourners.

“As she was placed into that creek, an angel caught her,” Bishop Donald  Hilliard Jr. said.

“She did not suffer at all.”

The mother was helped into the church, supported on either side by relatives.

Imani Benton clutched a bouquet of purple and white roses, which were later placed on the child’s three-foot-long white casket.

Tierra Morgan-Glover was wearing a white dress and had several gold bracelets on her wrist.

Arthur Morgan, who has since been charged with his daughter murder, met Imani Benton, 24, at a supermarket to take the girl out for the rest of the day, it was reported.

A 15-year-old boy was one of three teenagers who saw Tierra Morgan-Glover’s hand sticking out of the creek and realized it was that of a child. Park rangers then called police.

The creek, about 20 miles north of where Tierra Morgan-Glover lived, is up to 7 feet deep in the area where the body was found, near an overpass 15 feet above the creek.

Around 100 neighbours and friends gathered outside Tierra Morgan-Glover’s home last Wednesday for a candlelight vigil in memory of the little girl.

A visibly distressed Imani Benton cried out repeatedly: “She was my baby girl.”

Speaking through tears, Tierra Morgan-Glover’s grandmother, Michelle Simmons, told mourners last week: “I appreciate all the neighbours,” it was reported on patch.com.

Michelle Simmons added: “I hope that he is caught and justice is served.”

Sanford Ziff wants to erase late wife’s name from Miami Ballet Opera house in favor of new wife’s name

Sanford Ziff, a Miami millionaire philanthropist and the founder of Sunglass Hut is hoping to scrape his recently-deceased wife’s name off of the city’s Ballet Opera house in order to make room for the name of his new younger wife.

Sanford Ziff, 86, and he and his wife of 15 years, Dolores, were well-known for their charitable giving throughout Miami.

Just months after Dolores died this January, Sanford Ziff married his new girlfriend Baroness Beatrice Clancy, 68.

In the months following their July nuptials, Sanford Ziff publicly expressed his desire to change the name of the city’s Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House in the Arsht Center for performing arts.

“I’m considering name changes, especially at the Arsht Center,” Sanford Ziff told The Miami Herald.

“I haven’t quite decided yet. I still have to confer with the board.”

Sanford Ziff, 86, married Baroness Beatrice Clancy, 68
Sanford Ziff, 86, married Baroness Beatrice Clancy, 68

Calls to the Arsht Center went unreturned, and there is no word yet whether the name change has been approved, but Sanford Ziff seems to think it won’t be a problem.

“I gave $10million to the Arsht Center, so I don’t expect it to be a problem. My friends have been wonderful about me getting married.”

Before Dolores Ziff’s death of pneumonia on January 11, she was widely lauded as one of the city’s best-known members of high-society, recognized for her charitable giving to the arts and education.

Little is known of Baroness Beatrice Clancy- including what region of the world she claims her title from- but the blonde was known for her role in an unidentified 80’s sit-com.

The one thing that is certain is that Beatrice Clancy’s love life has earned her some harsh headlines in the past.

In October, Beatrice Clancy was named in a lawsuit disputing the proper distribution of the will of Bernard Schoninger, a deceased millionaire developer, with his lawyers claiming she swindled the dying man out of millions.

The suit over Bernard Schoninger’s money, which has lasted since he died of lung cancer in 2003, said that Beatrice Clancy “abused Schoninger’s trust… coerced him into conveying millions of dollars to her… with his credit cards, department store charge cards and bank accounts”.

That hasn’t put a damper on Sanford Ziff’s love for her, as he denied any knowledge of any wrong doing.

“I don’t know anything about the lawsuit. But I know that my wife is the most generous, caring and giving person I ever met,” Sanford Ziff said at the time.

The move is being viewed as callous and insensitive of Sanford Ziff, and many local journalists and bloggers have written out against the move.

There has been no official comment from the former-couple’s son, one of Dolores Ziff’ three other sons from previous relationships did speak out.

Dolores Ziff’ son Barr Keator told The Miami Herald said he was “shocked and offended he’d [Ziff] even consider this. My mother moved him to supporting the Arsht project. She had the society connections”.

If the board eventually does approve, the name-changes may not end there. The former couple also leant their name to the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Family College of education at Florida International University.

Richard Garritson attacked by six pit bulls while he jogged on a trail in San Diego

Richard Garritson, a San Diego County runner described the terrifying moment he was savaged by a pack of pit bulls as he jogged on a trail.

Richard Garritson, 21, and his 20-year-old brother, John, were attacked by the dogs about a mile from their home.

The man said he was running ahead of his sisters, Meagan Garritson, 18, and Shelby Garritson, 15, and his nine-year-old niece, when at least six dogs attacked. One bit his leg and a second grabbed his other leg, knocking him down.

Richard Garritson yelled for his sister to run as he tried to fight off the dogs which surrounded him. They snapped at his legs and arms. One bit him under his armpit.

Richard Garritson, a San Diego County runner described the terrifying moment he was savaged by a pack of pit bulls as he jogged on a trail

He told the San Diego Union-Tribune: “I was dripping blood from all over – my shirt, socks, shoes.”

“I was terrified,” Richard Garritson said.

“I thought I was going to die. They just kept biting at my legs and thighs.”

Richard Garritson, who already had run three miles, was running out of energy and yelled for his brother, who grabbed a stick and tried to fend off the dogs.

His brother also was attacked as the dogs kept rushing between the two brothers, Richard Garritson said.

He said the brothers knew where the dogs lived and they yelled for the owner, who managed to get all but three dogs into the house.

The dog’s owner finally put a leash on one of the larger dogs and the others broke off the attack, Richard Garritson said.

The brothers walked to a neighbour’s house and a woman there called county sheriff’s deputies.

“We could barely hold ourselves up,” Richard Garritson said.

Richard Garritson, who comes from a family of competitive runners, said his doctor told him that he probably will be able to run again even though he lost chunks from his lower legs.

His brother, John Garritson, suffered less serious bites to his legs. Their two sisters and young niece were not attacked.

Four dogs, all seven-month-old pit bull mixes, were destroyed at the owner’s request, county animal control Lieutenant Dan DeSousa said.

As CBS8 reports, the other two dogs were not destroyed, with authorities citing an early investigation.

The department continues to investigate and will decide whether to pursue charges against the owner, who has not been named Dan DeSousa said.

Rossie Brovent “poo tattoo” story

0

Rossie Brovent from Dayton, Ohio, was reportedly suing her ex-boyfriend and tattoo artist Ryan Fitzjerald for $100,000 over the drawing of a tattoo, which she eventually found out was of flies over a pile of excrement.

As an act of revenge, the jilted boyfriend of Rossie Brovent cruelly tattooed a picture of flies over excrement on his ex-girlfriend’s back and the photo swept the internet.

The ex-boyfriend was said to be angry at Rossie Brovent for cheating on him with a friend and plied her with alcohol before she signed a consent form agreeing a design “at the artist’s discretion”.

Rossie Brovent wanted an image of Narnia.

Rossie Brovent from Dayton, Ohio, was reportedly suing her ex-boyfriend and tattoo artist Ryan Fitzjerald for $100,000 over the drawing of a tattoo, which she eventually found out was of flies over a pile of excrement

Rossie Brovent’s “poo tattoo” story, which was originally reported on the VeryWeirdNews website and later followed up by British newspaper The Sun, U.S. website Metro and others across the world, has been recently thrown into doubt.

The picture of her tattoo appeared on the Ugliest Tattoos blog, part of the Fail Blog group of websites, as far back as December 2009.

It was sourced from Polish social network website Nasza-klasa, which translates as “our class”, and the caption on the photo lists the month in Polish as January, without a year, and the name of “Ania”.

A court official at Dayton Municipal Court, where the lawsuit would most likely have been filed, said they had no record of either Rossie Brovent or Ryan Fitzjerald in their records system.

A search of that court’s database and of those of the surrounding civil courts also threw up no matches for either the defendant or plaintiff.

In addition the Smoking Gun website reported that a spokesman for Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, which covers the Dayton area, said he did not know about the reported lawsuit.

In the VeryWeirdNews article from November 21, Rossie Brovent is quoted. But no contact address, email or phone number is listed for the website.

“He tricked me by drinking a bottle of cheap wine with me and doing tequila shots before I signed it and got the tattoo,” Rossie Brovent is quoted as saying.

“Actually I was passed out for most of the time, and woke up to this horrible image on my back.”

The photo has gone viral since it was picked up by the mainstream media, but it now appears the image has been floating around blogs for years and there is no civil lawsuit as has been reported.

Kidnapper Jesse Dimmick sues his hostages for $235,000 to cover emotional stress

0

Jesse Dimmick from Denver, who held Jared and Lindsay Rowley from Kansas as hostages in their home while fleeing from authorities is suing them, claiming they broke an oral contract made when he promised them money in exchange for hiding him from police.

Jared and Lindsay Rowley have asked a judge to dismiss the suit.

Jesse Dimmick is serving an 11-year sentence after bursting into Jared and Lindsay Rowley’s Topeka-area home in September 2009.

The man was wanted for questioning in the beating death of a Colorado man and a chase had begun in Geary County, the Associated Press reports.

Jesse Dimmick contends he told the couple he was being chased by someone, most likely the police, who wanted to kill him.

In his hand-written court documents, Jesse Dimmick said: “I, the defendant, asked the Rowleys to hide me because I feared for my life. I offered the Rowleys an unspecified amount of money which they agreed upon, therefore forging a legally binding oral contract.”

Jesse Dimmick wants $235,000 in total, including $160,000 for his hospital bills after he was shot in the back by police and an additional $75,000 for emotional stress.

Neighbours have said Jared and Lindsay Rowley fed Jesse Dimmick snacks and watched movies with him until he fell asleep and they were able to escape their home unharmed.

Jesse Dimmick was convicted in May 2010 of four felonies, including two counts of kidnapping.

The man was sentenced to 10 years and 11 months on those charges.

Jesse Dimmick was later sent to a jail in Brighton, Colorado, where he is being held on eight charges, including murder, in connection with the killing of Michael Curtis in September 2009.

A preliminary hearing originally scheduled for December 6 has been rescheduled for April 12.

No plea has been entered in the case.

Robert E. Keeshan, an attorney for the Rowleys, filed a motion denying there was a contract, but said if there was it would not have been binding anyway.

“In order for parties to form a binding contract, there must be a meeting of the minds on all essential terms, including and most specifically, an agreement on the price,” Robert E. Keeshan wrote.

Robert E. Keeshan said the contract also would have been invalid because the couple agreed to let Jesse Dimmick in the home only because they knew he had a knife and suspected he might have a gun.

Gabrielle Marvelli, a Pennsylvania math teacher admits having sex with 17-year-old student

0

Gabrielle Marvelli, a Pennsylvania math teacher admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old student earlier this year on the same day as his senior prom.

Gabrielle Marvelli pleaded guilty to the corruption of a minor after she had sex with a male student.

The 39-year-old math teacher was shaking and crying quietly as she admitted she had sex with one of her former students during a hearing yesterday.

By admitting guilt, Gabrielle Marvelli faces a maximum sentence of 9 months, though she may be placed in either a county jail rather than a state prison, or even in a jail’s work-release program.

Gabrielle Marvelli was arrested in June, just under a month after going to the Econo Lodge, an Allentown, Pennsylvania motel, at 3:20 a.m. for the early morning tryst.

Gabrielle Marvelli, a Pennsylvania math teacher admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old student earlier this year on the same day as his senior prom

The unidentified male student was one week shy of his 18th birthday at the time of their romp. Gabrielle Marvelli claimed that the student said he was 18 at the time, though the boy’s mother says otherwise.

The police were contacted shortly after the encounter took place on Memorial Day weekend in late May and began an investigation into Gabrielle Marvelli’s actions.

Gabrielle Marvelli, a married and the mother of a young daughter, was suspended from her job at the Allen High School after news of the encounter broke.

Her role as a teacher in the young man’s school made her sentencing a moral issue for county officials.

“I have chosen to approve this charge because teachers must be held to a high standard and, stating the obvious, should not enlist their students to engage in sexual relations,” district attorney Jim Martin said at the time of her arrest.

Those sentiments were echoed by Tim Eller, spokesman for the state Department of Education said: “When it comes to teachers there’s no delineation between a student of adult age or child. Regardless of age, the department does not look favourably upon it.”

Under Pennsylvania criminal law, the charge of corruption of minors can be applied to adults who commit various offences, including sexual abuse, against anyone under age 18.

Gabrielle Marvelli was released on $10,000 bail, and said Tuesday that though she had been suspended from her teaching position, she now works two jobs. She did not say what those jobs were.

The next step in the process is Gabrielle Marvelli’s sentencing hearing which is scheduled to take place on December 20.

Kourtney Kardashian was so excited, she couldn’t wait the traditional amount of time before sharing it with the world.

“Now I’m nine weeks along,” Kourtney Kardashian tells Us Weekly.

“You’re supposed to wait 12 weeks to tell people, but I feel confident.”

In an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians in July, Kourtney Kardashian was seen clashing with mother Kris Jenner after she mentioned that she and Scott Disik were considering trying for another baby.

While their first child Mason was a happy surprise, Kris Jenner is adamant that the couple should be married before thinking about expanding their family.

In the episode, Kourtney Kardashian is insistent that she will marry if and when she chooses, and admits the reason she is hesitant to walk down the aisle is because she doesn’t want her children to go through a parents’ divorce they way she did as a child.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disik have broken up a number of times over Kourtney’s disapproval of her partner’s hard partying and anger issues.

During their stint in Miami last year, Kourtney Kardashian ordered Scott Disick to leave her and their son alone after he turned violent and smashed a mirror, telling him “I love Mason more than I love you”.

Scott Disik has since worked out his issues and has said he has no problem marrying his long-time love.

Scott Disik even proposed to an unimpressed Kourtney Kardashian in the final episode of last season’s Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

Turning down his offer of marriage during dinner on their four-and-a-half year anniversary in April, Kourtney Kardashian asked: “Things are so good right now, why would we want to change that?”

And headstrong Kourtney Kardashian has clearly decided not to fulfill her mother’s wishes to get married before falling pregnant again.

“It wasn’t like we weren’t trying,” Scott Disick says.

“We kind of just said, <<If it’s meant to be, it’ll be>>.”

Another member of the family who may not be thrilled over the news is Kourtney Kardashian’s sister Kim.

Kim Kardashian, 30, who recently separated from husband Kris Humphries after just 72 days, said in a magazine interview this week that she feels her dreams of children may be dashed.

“At first I was like, I want six kids. Then I went down to four, then I was down to three, and now I’m like, maybe I won’t have any.”

“Maybe my fairy tale has a different ending than I dreamed it would.”

The Kardashians younger sister Khloé, who married basketballer Lamar Odom in 2009, has also revealed that she is concerned about her difficulty in conceiving.

Speaking on The Today Show last month, Khloé Kardashian, 27, admitted: “It’s so hard. I never knew about ovulation and the limited amount of time that you have to get pregnant.

“I never knew about that. No-one ever taught me that.”

The “miracle” cure of type 2 diabetes is simply a low-calorie diet

A study of Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands shows that type 2 diabetes could be reversed in just 4 months by simply following a low-calorie diet.

The new research results show that people who reduced their calorific intake in their daily diet experienced a far greater improvement of type 2 diabetes condition – and their health in general – than any medication offered.

The study conclusion says that life-saving insulin would no longer be needed to combat the disorder, cardiac function would improve and dangerous fats building up around patients’ hearts would be significantly reduced.

As obesity levels soar, type 2 diabetes is fast emerging as one of the biggest priorities for the health profession.

The disorder is thought to be driven by junk food diets and a lack of exercise.

Dr. Sebastiaan Hammer, the study’s lead author, told The Express: “It is striking to see how a relatively simple intervention of a very low-calorie diet effectively cures Type 2 diabetes.

“Moreover, these effects are long term, illustrating the potential of this method.

“Lifestyle interventions may have more powerful beneficial cardiac effects than medication in these patients.”

The research has been hailed as a breakthrough which could revolutionize the treatment of what was thought to be an incurable lifelong condition.

Dr. Sebastiaan Hammer added that the results showed significant improvements in patients after just 16 weeks of following a low-calorie diet.

Some 90% of diabetic patients have type 2 diabetes, the form which can be caused by being overweight or obese.

The remainder 10% patients have type 1, which is believed to be genetic.

Scientists believe excess fat upsets the working of insulin – a key hormone which delivers sugar to cells – and this can lead to type 2 diabetes.

Those with the condition are five times more at risk of heart attacks and strokes and can also suffer damage to nerve endings in feet, cells in the eye’s retina and kidney disease.
