Matthew McConaughey has revealed he is now down to his goal weight to play the real-life AIDS-afflicted character of Ron Woodroof in The Dallas Buyers Club – and doesn’t plan on losing any more.

In a new interview the 6 ft-tall actor reveals he now weighs in at 143lbs – having lost 38 lbs over the past few months (more than the 30 lbs previously reported).

With a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 19.4, Matthew McConaughey is still in the “normal weight” range – but skirting very close to and just seven pounds away from the underweight range (below 18.5).

Matthew McConaughey, 43, opened up to HitFix.com about the struggle he endured to shrink his frame – admitting it has been “90 per cent diet”, and exercise less so, which has seen him transform into the gaunt figure he is today.

He also admitted to looking forward to being able to eat a cheeseburger – but before then he has to maintain his weight for the next five weeks while filming after arriving on location in New Orleans over the weekend.

“I feel good, now,” Matthew McConaughey told HitFix‘s Gregory Ellwood. “Overall, probably got 35 percent less energy. The tough part, there have been plateaus.”

He explained: “Getting past 170 [lbs] was really hard, but then once you get into the 167, the next 7 come off easy. Getting past 160, really hard. But then you fly down to 150.

“Getting past 150 was really hard. And then, bam, got down to 143 and that’s where I want to be. Once you get past the plateau, the body seems to understand, <<OK this is where we’re living now, this is where we are>>, so the energy rises.”

Matthew McConaughey also talked about how he realized it was his diet he needed to regulate most – rather than his exercise.

The star is sticking to a drastic regime of cardio, five ounces of protein a day and low carbohydrates to maintain his emaciated form.

He said: “I’m doing cardio but I’ll tell you what, the more I’ve learned is – and I think it comes with age too – is it’s 90 percent diet.

“It’s 90 percent amount and then what you’re eating because right now I’m not losing any more weight if I burn 1,500 calories, two hours of cardio in an afternoon, or if I don’t. It doesn’t matter. It’s a matter of how much I eat or how little I eat.”

Matthew McConaughey says he has had to be strict on himself and stay away from temptation – but concedes that while he is looking forward to eating normally again, his body will probably be in for a shock.

“The organs shrink, so my stomach has shrunk as well. So as much as I can’t wait to have that cheeseburger, on the day, it’ll be damn hard to eat the whole thing.”

But for now: “I choose to pick my places where there’s less good smells and temptations. I don’t want to be doing this interview at a Pizza Hut buffet,” he added with a laugh.

The gritty film role, which initially attracted Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling, revolves around Ron Woodroof, the heterosexual, homophobic electrician who died of the disease in 1992 after illegally smuggling HIV drugs not approved in the States.

This is perhaps Matthew McConaughey’s most dramatic turn, having last appeared as a sexy stripper in Magic Mike.

Jennifer Garner has joined the film as Dr. Eve Saks and Jared Leto has also come on board to portray Ron Woodroof’s friend Rayon, a flamboyant HIV-positive cross-dressing hospital patient.

Fears are growing Matthew McConaughey is taking it too far as he continues to shed weight for a role as an AIDS victim in a forthcoming film, The Dallas Buyer’s Club.

Matthew McConaughey, 42, looked gaunt and unwell as he made his way through a Los Angeles airport as he jetted out to New Orleans on Friday.

The actor was aiming to lose 30 pounds from his already lean but muscular frame to play Ron Woodroof in The Dallas Buyer’s Club.

However, it looks like Matthew McConaughey may have lost even more than that as he shuffled through security at LAX.

He certainly looked almost unrecognizable from the snake-hipped muscleman who lit up screens this year in stripper movie Magic Mike.

The Dallas Buyer’s Club starts filming next week and follows what happened when Ron Woodroof was given six months to live after contracting the disease in 1986.He ended up spending the next six years smuggling medicine into the U.S. to help himself and fellow sufferers.

The heterosexual, homophobic electrician died in 1992 after illegally smuggling HIV drugs not approved in the States.

Jared Leto has just been cast in the film, which will also star Jennifer Garner.

He is to play Rayon, a cross-dressing fellow AIDS patient who meets Ron Woodroof in the hospital.

Gregg Blanchard, who was once house-bound due to his crippling 804 lbs weight, has lost 330 lbs in a single year.

Gregg Blanchard, from Manchester, New Hampshire, was so morbidly obese, he could not move without crutches, or even take a shower, completely dependant on the help of wife Ann.

Now, though, he has lost almost half of his former body weight, thanks to a new diet and exercise regime.

Gregg Blanchard told local news channel WMUR 9: “I’m now 474 pounds. That’s 330 pounds gone.”

His weight-loss journey first began in September 2011 after he appeared on the TV station for the first time.

“I looked at myself on TV, and I could not believe I was that big,” he said.

“You look at yourself, but when I watched it, it was like, <<How did I get that size?>>”

The process has been a struggle though. Gregg Blanchard has suffered a series of infections over the past year that have kept him in hospital for months at a time.

“What happened was I wasn’t getting that fuel my body needed,” he explained.

“I felt lethargic and didn’t feel like working out.”

Regardless, Gregg Blanchard was determined, and his impressive weight-loss is proof of that.

Speaking to WMUR 9 in October 2011, he said of his early progress: “It’s not just pounds, it’s walking without crutches. Now, I use a cane sparingly.

“The little things make much more of a difference than the number on the scale.”

Gregg Blanchard’s weight-loss so far has also been thanks in part to personal trainer Mary Wiseman, who has helped him go from virtually bed-bound to walking down the street.

Mary Wiseman said: “We had to take that first step again. When he did, we were on a roll, down the steps and <<let’s go for a walk>>.”

They reached a new milestone recently, when Gregg Blanchard was finally able to fit in a car, and took a trip to Mary Wiseman’s gym.

Gregg Blanchard is now attending sessions with her there regularly. His new goal is to accompany his wife on a trip to North Carolina next year.

“I used to be the 804-pound man,” he said.

“I don’t want to be referred to like that. That was the old me.”

Matthew McConaughey revealed he was going to lose a staggering 30 lbs to play real-life AIDS victim Ron Woodruff in upcoming movie The Dallas Buyer’s Club.

But it seems that it might be time for Matthew McConaughey to stop his weight loss quest.

Matthew McConaughey, 42, was seen on a family day out in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, and appeared to be severely emaciated.

The actor failed to conceal his frail frame beneath a baggy navy knitted cardigan and loose-fitting jeans, wearing a red scarf around his neck and topping off his outfit with a flat cap.

He even appeared to be struggling to walk along, putting his arm around his mother Mary for support as the group left church after the morning service.

However, while Matthew McConaughey looked terrifyingly gaunt, his wife Camila looked healthier than ever.

The Brazilian model is currently expecting her third child with Matthew McConaughey, and highlighted her blooming figure in a patterned maxi dress, which she finished off with a pair of brown cowboy boots.

Camila and Matthew McConaughey were joined by their two children Levi and Vida for the service, with Vida looking cute in a dress and orange scarf, while Levi opted for a dapper outfit in jeans and a mini pea coat.

It was revealed last year that Magic Mike star Matthew McConaughey would be playing Ron Woodroof in the upcoming movie, after beating strong competition from stars including Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling for the role.

Jessica Simpson is being paid a reported $4 million to act as the new face of Weight Watchers.

And now Jessica Simpson has starred in her first advert for the diet programme, filmed back in July as she got stuck into her weight loss regime.

Yet the footage has failed to capture her full figure, presumably the one thing that viewers want to see so that they can make a comparison between her before and after figure.

“I’m Jessica Simpson and yes I’m doing Weight Watchers,” she tells the camera, smiling.

“There is a lot of pressure to lose weight but I’m not a supermodel. I’m just Jessica trying to eat real food in the real world and I really just wanna be healthy for my daughter.

“So I knew Weight Watchers was the only way to go. It’s working.

‘I’m on my way and it feels amazing. Really I just wanna be a better version of myself.”

The advert focuses on Jessica Simpson’s upper body, with close-ups of her face.

Talking on Katie Couric’s new chat show yesterday, the singer and actress admitted that at the time she wasn’t comfortable revealing her whole frame.

Since the clip was filmed Jessica Simpson, 32, has continued on her healthy eating plan – taking her total weight loss to an impressive 40 lbs.

But she still isn’t at her goal, after her weight hit more than 170 lbs while she was pregnant.

Talking on the debut episode of Katie Couric yesterday Jessica Simpson explained why the Weight Watchers programme is working for her.

“You have to track every bit, and you can’t get away with the bites because they add up,” she said.

“You have to be completely honest with yourself, and I think just creating that relationship of honesty with yourself is so good.”

Along with tracking her food Jessica Simpson is also working out.

And now she is 10 lbs away from her goal weight, she’s using her daughter to get there.

“I basically take her with me, whether it’s strapping her on me or strolling around the neighborhood,” she said.

“My new goal is 14,000 steps a day.”

Tyra Banks, who has famously fluctuated in weight since her days as a professional model ended, admitted today she has herself fallen victim to foolish methods of weight loss.

“A couple of years ago I lost – I wouldn’t say it was 30 [pounds] – but it was a considerable amount of weight,” said the fashion industry icon.

Tyra Banks, 38, was speaking at a press conference in Singapore to launch Asia’s Next Top Model, the latest adaptation of her successful TV franchise.

“I went on a health challenge with the crew of America’s Next Top Model, and at the time I had a talk show,” Tyra Banks explained.

Tyra Banks and her crew were filming in Brazil, and after realizing that they were “really unhealthy [and] not working out”, a decision was made to “see who can get the healthiest the fastest”.

“I’m very competitive, so what did I do? I ate so much for about three weeks, so that I could gain 10 pounds so that when we all weighed in, I could weight a lot more and then lose it fast.

“So I won. I lost a lot of weight, but then I looked in the mirror and decided I’d lost too much.

“And so I’ve actually gained some back.”

Tyra Banks told the Singapore audience she created America’s Next Top Model to “expand the definition of beauty, and to show different types of beauty”.

“But I feel that after 10 years of Top Model being on the air, that the public now understands that it’s not about looking like Barbie, but that it’s about so many different types of beauty.”

Tyra Banks said: “The fashion industry has always been obsessed with thin …

“I fight every single day to try to expand that, and to try to show different types of beauty.

“So sometimes my girls will win America’s Next Top Model, and then call me crying, saying they don’t fit any of the clothes at Fashion Week, and so that’s a challenge that we have.

“But it’s what the Tyra Banks company stands for, it’s what America’s Next Top Model stands for … is not having a cookie cutter.”

One of the Victoria’s Secret original angels, Tyra Banks says she’s proud of Vogue magazine.

“They just started an initiative where they’re going to pay attention to girls that they feel are unhealthy, not treating themselves their bodies right – and hopefully they won’t just have a size double zero on the runway.”

She added: “If that was the rule when I started high fashion modelling back in the day, I wouldn’t be on the stage right now, because there is no way even one of my thoighs could have gotten into a double zero.”

The high-profile entrepreneur, who famously prefers the term “fiercely real” over “plus-size” for models that aren’t double zeros, said she believes “things are changing slowly” in her industry.

“Sophia Loren and Marilyn Munroe and Jane Mansfield … the thing is with women’s bodies, our bodies go in and out of fashion.

“One decade it’s about curves, and another decade it’s about being thin, if you think about Twiggy’s era.

“Then another decade it’s about being athletic, if you think about the Eighties; then the Nineties was even more athletic – you have to have a six pack – like Janet Jackson.

“And then the new millennium was about being super stick thin, then for a little bit you had to have a big bootie like Beyonce and Kim Kardashian … and now it’s like, ‘Ooh you gotta be skinny again – but not too skinny.

“It’s really sad that as women, we cannot be really beautiful in our differences. It’s a sad fact that women have to live with.”

Jordin Sparks had an ongoing battle with her weight since rising to fame and becoming victor of American Idol in 2007.

Now Jordin Sparks has decided to completely overhaul her image and do something about her health.

And the singer is so pleased with her new look after dropping an astonishing 50 lbs, she’s shown off her new slimline figure on the cover of Shape magazine.

Jordin Sparks, 22, displayed her toned figure in an electric blue bikini as she became this month’s cover girl.

Obviously confident in her new skin, she smiled widely as her petite frame is shown for all to see.

And she’s spoken out about overcoming her weight battle inside the issue.

Jordin Sparks said: “I knew I had a long road ahead of me. I was barely working out, and my diet was a mess. I had to address when, what, and how much I was eating.”

She revealed that she decided to change her eating and exercise pattern when she realized she should be making the most of herself now that she’s at her prime in her twenties.

The singer added: “I just wanted to be healthy. I remember thinking, ‘I’m in my prime. I should be happy and fit.”

That was the moment I decided that changes needed to be made.

Jordin Sparks has previously modelled from plus-size clothing and has spoken of her larger frame in the past: “I love food and I love my curves,” she said at the time.

“I’m very strong-willed and I’m stubborn in that sense to where I’m just like <<No, I won’t be that way>>.

“The stick-thin thing, I’m kind of just like, <<Not gonna do it>> and <<I couldn’t>>.”

But Jordin Sparks seems overwhelmed by the weight that she has dropped, telling Shape magazine: “The weight really started falling off, and I could see my muscles. It was awesome.”
