Ringo Starr has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 19.

The former Beatles drummer was the last of the Fab Four to be inducted as a solo artist, where he was hailed as “one of the greatest and most creative drummers”.

“Finally, I’m invited and I love it,” Ringo Starr said at the ceremony.

Ringo Starr, 74, was introduced by fellow Beatle Paul McCartney and together they performed their 1967 hit, With A Little Help From My Friends.

While inducting Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney said he could always rely on his former bandmate to perform on every song.Ringo Starr Hall of Fame induction

“You don’t have to look with Ringo – he’s there,” he said.

Ringo Starr was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a member of the Beatles in 1988.

Although he was the last Beatle to be recognized for his solo efforts, Ringo Starr was the first to establish a career following the band’s split in 1970, releasing two albums and scoring two top five songs within a year.

Ringo Starr has released 18 solo studio albums, including his latest – Postcards From Paradise – released earlier this month.

Among the other honorees at the ceremony were singer Bill Withers, rock band Green Day, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts and Lou Reed – who died in 2013.

Green Day were inducted in their first year of eligibility – which rules state must be 25 years after the release of an artist’s first record.

Bill Withers was inducted by Stevie Wonder.

Joan Jett – who was inducted by Miley Cyrus – opened the show with her rock hit Bad Reputation, and was joined by Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl for a performance of Cherry Bomb.

Patti Smith inducted Lou Reed and thanked him for “brutally and benevolently injecting poetry into your music”.

The 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony will be broadcast on HBO on May 30.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, Ringo Starr said it meant “recognition” of his work.

He added: “And it means, finally, the four of us are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame even though we were the biggest pop group in the land.”

Eagle Joe Walsh will perform some of Ringo Starr’s music, while Bill Withers’ music will be performed by John Legend.

It is not known if Bill Withers, who quit the music business more than 30 years ago, will sing himself.

Patti Smith will induct Lou Reed, who died in 2013, while Beck will perform the Velvet Underground singer’s music.

Joan Jett, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and the “5” Royales will also be elevated to the elite musical club at the Cleveland ceremony.

Rihanna teamed up with Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney for a new project called Four Five Seconds.

It’s been almost a year since Rihanna, 26, released her last single.

Paul McCartney is one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century, selling more than 100 million albums as part of the Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist.

Kanye West has previously collaborated with both Rihanna and Paul McCartney, though never before as a trio.

Four Five Seconds is a move away from Rihanna and Kanye West’s previous work together on All of the Lights (from Kanye West’s album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) and Run This Town, where the pair teamed up with Jay-Z.Four Five Seconds Rihanna, Kanye West, Paul McCartney

This time the track is a slower, acoustic guitar-driven number.

Kanye West played a snippet of Four Five Seconds to industry experts at the iHeartMedia music summit on January 21.

It’s yet to be confirmed if the song will appear on an album by any of the artists.

Though producer Ty Dolla $ign did tell Billboard earlier this month that the song is likely be part of Kanye West’s upcoming release.

The project follows Kanye West’s own collaboration with Paul McCartney at the beginning of the year.

Paul McCartney has canceled the rest of his tour of Japan due to illness, organizers have said.

Paul McCartney, 71, is believed to have contracted a virus.

The former Beatle is still scheduled to perform a concert in Seoul, South Korea, on May 28 followed by 19 performances in the US.

A message on his website said that doctors have ordered him to have a “complete rest” and that he “hates to let people down”.

The announcement means that Paul McCartney will not play the remaining two gigs of his Out There Japan Tour 2014.

Fans will now not get to see Paul McCartney perform at the Nippon Budokan hall in Tokyo, which is where the Beatles performed during their first Japanese tour in 1966.

Organizer Kyodo Tokyo said in a statement that Paul McCartney “will regrettably have to cancel the remaining Japanese shows. Paul is still not feeling better and this cancellation is unavoidable”.

A quote from the singer on his website said: “Thank you so much for your kind messages of support.

“I’m so very touched. Unfortunately my condition has not improved overnight. I was really hoping that I’d be feeling better today. I’m so disappointed and sorry to be letting my fans down.”

Paul McCartney had already cancelled Saturday’s appearance and later his Sunday show, both due to have taken place at Tokyo’s National Stadium, saying that the decision was in his doctor’s hands.

He also told fans: “Thank you for such a beautiful and warm welcome to your country.”

The shows were the latest leg of the Out There tour, which started back in May 2013, and followed a series of Japan dates last November.

Paul McCartney and his band recently completed a tour of Latin America which included shows in Peru and Uruguay.

The forthcoming South Korea date will be the first time Paul McCartney has played in the country.

It will be followed by a series of US concerts in places including New Orleans, Atlanta, Nashville, Fargo and Kansas City between June and August.

Paul McCartney has succeeded to ban the sale of mementos by the family of his former nanny, Rose Martin.

Rose Martin, who looked after Paul McCartney’s children, was reportedly gifted a number of collectable items by the Beatles star’s late wife Linda, including a suit, a cape and handwritten lyrics.

The late nanny’s family decided to put the collection up for auction following her death last year, but they have now been withdrawn from sale following a complaint from Paul McCartney’s attorneys.

Omega Auctions representative Paul Fairweather told Daily Telegraph: “Unfortunately, the lawyers have claimed that Paul would never have given any clothing away.”

“Rose always told the family that it was Linda that had given them to her but as both have unfortunately passed away, neither story can be corroborated … At the end of the day we’ve got to make sure that according to the law we give them back to their rightful owner, be that Rose’s family or Sir Paul McCartney and MPL Communications [McCartney Productions Ltd]. We can only apologize to any buyers who were hoping to bid on these items.”

The collection was expected to fetch as much as $48,000 at auction and Rose Martin’ family had hoped to distribute the cash to her grandchildren.

Paul McCartney previously paid tribute to Rose Martin following her death, calling her a “dear friend” and “fiercely loyal”.

George Harrison and Ringo Starr’s jackets worn in The Beatles’ 1965 film Help! have fetched £115,000 ($179,000) at a Liverpool auction.

Ringo Starr’s cape fetched £61,000 ($95,0000), while George Harrison’s sold for £54,000 ($84,000), including buyer’s premium. Both beat separate pre-sale valuations of £20,000-30,000.

Meanwhile, a piano used by Paul McCartney and John Lennon was bought by a South American collector for £57,500 ($90,000).

The 1907 Bechstein grand piano was used to compose the tracks Help! and Yesterday, according to Omega Auctions.

The piano and jackets were sold by Richard Lester, now 82, who directed Help! and The Beatles’ first film A Hard Day’s Night.

The auction took place at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool.

A cape, suit and sheet of handwritten lyrics belonging to Paul McCartney were withdrawn from auction after the star made a late legal challenge.

The rest of the sale went ahead on Thursday to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles’ hit Can’t Buy Me Love.

Beatles rarities from 1963 have been released on iTunes.

Fifty-nine tracks – unreleased outtakes, demos – have been released on iTunes to stop them falling out of copyright and into the public domain.

EU copyright law covers recordings for 70 years if they have had an official release or 50 years if they have not.

The 2-disc set was apparently released, then removed, early on Tuesday, causing speculation it was only being published briefly to extend the copyright period.

Fans posted screenshots of the collection on the New Zealand iTunes store, along with links which later became invalid.

Online reports suggested the same thing had happened in Australia, Russia and Saudi Arabia – although the EU’s copyright laws would not apply in any of these territories.

Gathering together live material and recording session offcuts, the compilation includes four alternate takes of She Loves You, two of From Me To You and several live versions of Roll Over Beethoven.

It also features three attempts at There’s A Place, as well as demos of two songs the group gave to other artists – Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s acoustic version of Bad to Me and Lennon’s piano demo of I’m in Love.

The tracks had been widely bootlegged, but never officially released until now.

After a recent change in the law, the master tape for The Beatles’ 1963 debut album Please Please Me is protected by copyright until 2033, but the unreleased session tapes for that album are not.

If the Beatles chose not to release the recordings before the end of the year, other record labels could theoretically put them out and profit from them next year.

The band’s 1962 debut single Love Me Do arguably slipped out of copyright last year before the EU’s copyright extension was signed into law.

At least one record company issued a “remastered” version of the song, although that has since been deleted.

The copyright law in question only covers the recordings – the composition of the songs remains the copyright of the songwriter for 70 years after his or her death.

Officially called The 50th Anniversary Collection, it carried a subtitle which explained its true purpose: The Copyright Extension Collection, Vol. 1.

The Beatles have decided to release 59 rare and unheard recordings in a bid to stop their copyright protection expiring.

The digital compilation includes four alternate takes of She Loves You and five of A Taste Of Honey.

EU law protects songs for 70 years after they are recorded, but only if they get an official release. Otherwise, copyright lasts 50 years.

In the case of The Beatles, that means their 1963 debut album Please Please Me is protected until 2033, but the unreleased session tapes for that album are not.

News of its arrival first appeared on Norwegian Beatles blog, WogBlog, which also published cover art and a tracklisting.

According to the site, the collection contains three versions of There’s A Place as well as demos of two songs the group gave to other artists — Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s acoustic version of Bad to Me and Lennon’s piano demo of I’m in Love.

The Beatles are not the first band to issue rare material in a bid to extend copyright.

Bob Dylan’s record label rushed out 100 copies of an album last year containing early TV performances, alongside multiple versions of Blowin’ in the Wind, Bob Dylan’s Dream and I Shall Be Free.

Officially called The 50th Anniversary Collection, it carried a subtitle which explained its true purpose: The Copyright Extension Collection, Vol. 1.

A second volume followed this year, while Motown has also begun issuing rare recordings on iTunes under the “Motown Unreleased” banner.

Given the low-key nature of the release, it is likely that Apple Corps, the Beatles’ record label, will take down the new material after a brief period, allowing them to exploit the recordings in a more considered way later on.

However, it is likely that the release of rare material will become an annual event, as the band seek to protect their works for another 20 years.

Meanwhile, a more glossy campaign is being mounted to promote a new Beatles box set, which is being released to mark the 50th anniversary of the band’s first trip to America.

The 13-disc set includes all of the band’s American albums, including five that have never been available on CD before.

Many of the records feature different titles, track listings, mixes, and artwork from their UK versions.

The Beatles will also be given a lifetime achievement award by the Grammys in 2014, during a special ceremony the night before the main event.

German electro pioneers Kraftwerk, country star Kris Kristofferson and soul group The Isley Brothers will also be honored.

In Queenie Eye you see Paul McCartney recording the track in what he thinks is an empty studio (Studio 2).

As the song develops the room starts to fill up with people all reacting in different ways to the song.

In one scene Alice Eve (Men in Black 3), is seen writhing across the piano on which Paul McCartney performs, while comedienne Tracey Ullman and model Lily Cole are seen listening to the music.

The video also shows designer Tom Ford dancing while sat in an arm chair.

Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, James Corden, Gary Barlow, Jeremy Irons, Sean Penn and Tracey Ullman are also among the host of celebrities who take part in the shoot.

The London gig began at 13.30 BST, about an hour after Sir Paul announced it on Twitter.

“I’m getting ready to pop up in Covent Garden,” the former Beatle tweeted.

“This is a change from the ’60s because we would just have been coming in from the clubs right now,” he said

Paul McCartney opened with his current single, also called New, and closed with the same song approximately 20 minutes later, telling the audience: “Thank you very much. OK now, back to work!”

Paul McCartney has revealed how a rainy day inspired him to write a song about wife Nancy Shevell.

The singer famously wrote a love letter to his American heiress wife on Valentine’s Day while on holiday in Morocco.

In upcoming television documentary Live Kisses the musician is seen singing the track, called My Valentine, recorded for his album Kisses On The Bottom.

The former Beatles star wrote the tune on a rainy day while on holiday in Morocco as the couple about their hotel to keep dry.

Paul McCartney revealed: “We were on holiday together, Nancy and I, and it was raining, it’s kind of led me towards a kind of minor-y type thing and the sentiment of you know, oh it’s raining.

“I wrote the song on Valentine’s Day in Morocco where we were on holiday and it had been raining, and I’d said <<oh pity about the rain>> and all of that, and she’d said to me <<it doesn’t matter, we’ll have a good time>> – and I really liked that because I know there’s nothing you can do about weather.

“So I was in the foyer of the hotel, knocking around on this old Joanna that the Irish pianist played in the evenings and because it was raining, because it was not sort of sunny and bright and everyone milling around, this minor-y melody came out and the words were pretty much what I was thinking really, they just spilled out.”

Live Kisses documents a February night in Los Angeles – the very same evening The Beatles made their debut television performance on The Ed Sullivan show 48 years prior – when Paul McCartney decided to bring the tunes on his album to life.

He performed the songs at the Capitol Studios earlier this year where much of the collection was created and he is seen singing his love letter to Nancy Shevell live.

The recording took place hours after the long awaited addition of Paul McCartney’s star to the Hollywood Walk of Fame drew a traffic-stopping throng to pack the stretch of Vine Street in front of the famed Capitol Records building in Los Angeles.

And to add to the feeling of anticipation, the music had not been performed by the band of musicians before and the show was broadcast online live for the world to see.

The reunited all-star entourage included Grammy-winning producer Tommy LiPuma, Al Schmitt in the control room, musical director Diana Krall at the piano, and Kisses… players John Clayton, Karriem Riggins, John Pizzarelli, Anthony Wilson, Mike Mainieri and conductor Alan Broadbent.

Exclusive interview segments of Paul McCartney with Kisses On The Bottom collaborators Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Krall and LiPuma, among others can be seen in the show which will be broadcast on Saturday.

The show will be broadcast on ITV1 at 11p.m. on Saturday 24 November
