Sharon Osbourne has revealed she has undergone a double mastectomy after learning she carries a gene which increases the risk of developing breast cancer.
“I’ve had cancer before and I didn’t want to live under that cloud: I decided to just take everything off,” Sharon Osbourne told Hello! magazine.
Sharon Osbourne, 60, was previously diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002.
The wife of rock star Ozzy Osbourne, she rose to fame on the reality show The Osbournes, and went on to join the judging panel of the UK version of The X Factor and, more recently, America’s Got Talent.
Sharon Osbourne quit the US show – produced by Simon Cowell – in September after a reported dispute with TV network NBC.
Sharon Osbourne has revealed she has undergone a double mastectomy
One of the current hosts of daytime show The Talk, she told Hello! magazine that she underwent 13 hours of surgery, and said: “The odds are not in my favor.”
“For me, it wasn’t a big decision, it was a no-brainer.”
“I didn’t want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me. I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl.
“I didn’t even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way, I just wanted to be able to live my life without that fear all the time.”
Earlier this year, Sharon Osbourne became a grandmother for the first time, after her son Jack and wife Lisa Stelly had a daughter, Pearl. Jack Osbourne, 26, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis earlier this year.
In 2004, in conjunction with Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Sharon Osbourne set up her own cancer foundation, to support people who are suffering from colon cancer but cannot afford healthcare.
Jack Osbourne and Lisa Stelly married little over two weeks ago, but now the official pictures of their wedding have been published by Hello! magazine.
The youngest of the famous family said his “I do” to his girlfriend Lisa Stelly in a lavish ceremony at the Four Seasons Resort in Hawaii.
The couple have a five-month-old daughter, Pearl Clementine, together, and she was the guest of honour.
The star pair’s wedding pictures, which appear in this week’s Hello! Magazine, show just how magical their day was.
The images show Lisa Stelly looking every inch a bride in a classic white satin wedding dress, featuring an embroidered neckline, and a lace veil.

Baby Pearl Clementine was also dressed in a white wedding outfit for the occasion, and even sported a veil just like mummy.
The lovebirds were joined by 48 guests, including the famous Osbourne clan, during the ceremony and party on the romantic island.
And the emotional ceremony was definitely a family occasion, as Jack Osbourne’s sister Kelly served as a bridesmaid, and his mother Sharon also happened to turn 60 on the day of her youngest son’s wedding.
Kelly Osbourne recently told an Australian radio show she couldn’t stop crying when she heard her son say his vows.
“He did get married and it was wonderful! Oh my goodness I cried, people thought I was sad, but it was tears of joy,” she said.
“All I kept thinking was, <<My boy’s still 12 years of age and he’s getting married!>>, then I realized, no he’s not, he’s 26, what am I doing!”
And the day after the nuptials, Jack and Lisa’s honeymoon took a dramatic turn, as the youngest of Osbourne’s helped save a woman from drowning.
Jack Osbourne leaped into action with a few friends when he saw a woman struggling to swim in the ocean, after she had a heart attack.
His proud wife immediately took to Twitter to tell the world about her new husband’s brave rescue.
“Really proud of Jack and his friend Tyler who saved a woman on the beach yesterday who’d had a heart attack and nearly drowned.”
Of the 62 celebrity weddings that featured on Hello! magazine’s front cover over the past decade, ten of them, 16%, have ended in divorce.
That is more than double the official divorce figure of 7% within the first six years of marriage.
The revelation adds weight to the theory behind the so-called “curse of Hello!” – that couples who appear in the magazine may be destined to split up.
Three of the ten Hello! divorces came within the first two years of marriage and only three couples managed more than five years.
The shortest marriage was Kim Kardashian, who divorced basketball player Kris Humphries after 72 days.

Other ill-fated cover stars include Westlife’s Brian McFadden and Kerry Katona, as well as Boyzone’s Ronan Keating and wife Yvonne.
Ulrika Jonsson sold her 1990 wedding to John Turnbull to Hello! and divorced him five years later. In 2003, she was on the cover with second husband Lance Gerrard-Wright. The union lasted two years.
Elizabeth Hurley and Indian textile tycoon Arun Nayar pocketed $3.5 million when they sold their wedding to Hello! in 2007. They parted four years later.
Hello!’s editor Rosie Nixon said the idea of a curse was “totally unfounded”. But former editor Kay Goddard said: “Perhaps they should put a clause in the contract that celebrity couples who divorce within a certain time should repay some of their fee.”
Jessica Simpson has revealed to Hello! magazine that she has put on a bountiful 40 pounds during her pregnancy.
Jessica Simpson, 31, told Hello! magazine in their latest issue that she has been pleased to take time off dieting.
“I had a great pregnancy. Eating and not having to worry too much about it has been fun,” Jessica Simpson said.
“Taking a break from working out has definitely been fun. But I’m ready for it to be over. I’m ready to have my body back!”
Jessica Simpson, who appears to have been pregnant for much longer than her three trimesters, told the magazine that she can’t wait to deliver her unborn son or daughter.
“I feel like I could pop at any second,” Jessica Simpson said.

Jessica Simpson recently celebrated her impending motherhood with a baby shower at her Los Angeles home.
She told Hello! magazine that the bash, which was attended by the likes of Jessica Alba and her sister Ashlee Simpson, had a Charlotte’s Web theme.
The E.B. White book was Jessica Simpson’s favorite fictional story growing up.
During the celebrations, the woman played games and enjoyed several activities including guessing the size of Jessica Simpson’s bump and knitting lessons.
