having a baby
Kate Middleton’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, has predicted his niece is about to give birth to a baby girl – and when she does, he says it will be “unbelievable” for the female firstborn to make history.
“My suspicion is that they’re having a baby girl,” he told the Mirror.
“But, of course, I don’t know that for fact. I believe Kate and William have kept the gender of their child a secret to everyone but themselves.”
Gary Goldsmith said that it would be “brilliant” if Prince William and Kate Middleton’s firstborn was a girl – because thanks to the recent amendment to British succession law allowing female firstborn children to rule, a girl baby would one day be Queen.
“It would be brilliant, wouldn’t it, if they do have a little girl? To have one of my family, my niece, making history will be absolutely unbelievable.”
Gary Goldsmith went onto praise Kate Middleton and Prince William as a “very modern couple”, saying he believes William will be “as hands-on as Kate” with the parenting.
“That’s the genius of it,” he said.
“They’re modernizing the Royal Family and doing a wonderful job of it.”
The so-called King Of Fun, known to Kate, Pippa and James Middleton as Uncle G – has already been looking around for a baby gift for the new arrival – and has his eye on a £70,000 ($100,000) rocking elephant he spotted in Royal Warranted jewellers Asprey.

“I went to Asprey’s recently and saw an amazing, huge elephant rocker, like Dumbo, for about £70,000,” he told the Mirror.
“Or there was a chest of some first edition Tintins.
“But because family is so important to Kate – she is incredibly close to Carole and Pip – I would rather get something personal and more meaningful. Although I did like that elephant…!”
But the 48-year-old businessman brother of Carole Middleton has another trick up his sleeve too.
The self-made millionaire, who made his £30 million ($50 million) fortune in investments and recruitment consultancy, has said he plans to buy the baby shares in Chelsea football club – something that may not go down too well with William, who is a die-hard Aston Villa fan.
Gary Goldsmith, who sold his shares in recruitment consultancy firm SThree PLC for £17 million ($27 million) eight years ago, told The Sun: “I’m going to get exactly what I get for all my mates’ babies.
“As a die-hard Chelsea fan, I always get the baby Chelsea shares. Then, when it’s a bit older, I get it a full tiny Chelsea strip.
“It’s brilliant, it drives the parents mad. I love turning their kid into a true blue Chelsea fan. And Prince William is an Aston Villa fan. I thought it could be hilarious. I mean, what on earth can you get for a baby like theirs? That baby is going to have everything it could ever want. So Chelsea shares are perfect. I think William will find it funny.”
Gary Goldsmith, who was at the Royal Wedding in 2011 despite being stung months earlier in an undercover operation that revealed him to be in the possession of cocaine, says he is under no illusion he could be handed the honor of godparent to the Royal firstborn.
“I would hope to be at the christening, but I’m sure I won’t be a godfather!”
Famously discreet Kate Middleton may have dropped her guard a little on a walkabout yesterday.
According to one member of the crowd, Kate Middleton, who is five months pregnant, appeared to hint she might be having a baby girl.
Sandra Cook, 67, was among the 2,000 wellwishers who greeted Kate Middleton on her visit to Grimsby.
She said: “The lady next to me gave her a teddy bear and I distinctly heard her say <<Thank you, I will take that for my d….>>.
“Then she stopped herself. I leant over and said to her: <<You were going to say daughter, weren’t you?>> She said: <<No, we don’t know!>> I said: <<Oh, I think you do>> to which she replied: <<We’re not telling!>>
“I have been here since 10 a.m. and it was worth every cold minute of the wait to see her. She is just beautiful and so lovely and friendly.”

Diana Burton, 41, who gave the Duchess a teddy, was too shell-shocked to recall the conversation. But Sandra Cook, who works in a local charity shop and lives in Grimsby, was adamant about what she heard.
“I only hope that she doesn’t now give birth to a boy or I’m going to look pretty stupid,” she said.
“But she definitely said <<d——>>.”
St James’s Palace did not comment on the matter, although royal sources insisted Kate Middleton and Prince William had not yet found out the sex of the baby, which is due in July.

Rihanna has revealed her relationship with Chris Brown could go all the way, including having children together.
In a sultry shoot for ELLE UK, Rihanna has revealed plans to start a family with Chris Brown, why she feels compelled to share so much of her life through social media and her hopes for her future.
Divulging the secrets in her life is starting to become important to Rihanna, who was discovered in 2005 and has worked ever since, and the 25-year-old singer has explained this is why she shares so much of her personal life on Instagram.
Showing off her incredible figure and fierce attitude Rihanna wears kitten ears and a dark mask in the shoot by Mariano Vivacano while wearing designs by fashion houses Maison Martin Margiela, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy.
Speaking frankly about her relationship with Chris Brown, who assaulted her before the 2009 Grammy Awards, Rihanna said: “Stay [her new single] is a story about having love that close and wanting it to last forever. You don’t have that feeling with everybody so when you have it you don’t want to let go of it. I would definitely say that he [Chris Brown] is the one I have that kind of relationship with.”
On the subject of children Rihanna said: “I will probably have a kid. And I’m praying I can go on vacation for a good month. And I’ll have set some things up so I don’t have to tour for the rest of my life, even though I love touring. I want health and happiness in five years. I want to be healthy and happy.”
Despite critics branding Rihanna a bad influence on women of her generation for taking Chris Brown back the singer remains unapologetic, explaining: “Now that we’re adults we can do this right. We got a fresh start and I’m thankful for that. Right now that’s just what we want, a great friendship that’s unbreakable.”
And the social media savvy Rihanna is tired of lying to her fans about her life, explaining she uses Instagram to make it clear the type of person she is.
“Well I Instagram everything about my life, whether it’s smoking pot, in a strip club, reading a Bible verse – how crazy, I know! – or hanging out with my best friend, who happens to be Chris.
“Everybody wanted to know what was happening in my life. Is she a drug addict? No. Is she an alcoholic? No. Is she a victim? No. That’s when I got the gun [tattoo]. It was a symbol of strength. I’ll never be a victim.
“That’s why I’m posting pictures of myself smoking pot, to tell the truth about myself. I’ve got so much to think about, why bring all this extra s*** by being dishonest?”

But Rihanna’s open attitude doesn’t swing with everyone.
“I’m not afraid of any person in this world but my mother. I’m terrified of her!
“She called me two days ago and reeled me in about two naked pictures Melissa [her best friend] put up on Instagram – a sneak-peek from a photo book she’s making about me. My mom, she went crazy on me.
“I was like embarrassed. I felt like I got my ass whupped in front of my class in school! She said, <<This was like a private moment and you’re just parading this around>>. She humbled the f*** out of me.”
Although she appears on the pages of Elle UK in a number of slick designer outfits, Rihanna is clearly a fan of the high street, designing a clothing range with River Island.
“High-street shops pay more attention to the kids on the street than to the runways, so in a way I like to mix both. I love a high-end bag or jacket with a simple dress.
“I just thought, I’m going to make something for everybody – every personality, every body type.”

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas have confirmed they are expecting their first child together.
Alec Baldwin, 54, and his yoga instructor wife of eight months said her pregnancy came as “a wonderful surprise” and they feel very “lucky”.
Hilaria Thomas, 28, confirmed the news on Tuesday on Extra, for which she acts as a part-time correspondent, saying: “We’ve having a baby. [It] was a surprise, a wonderful surprise.”
Alec Baldwin has a 17-year-old daughter Ireland with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
The actor revealed he was unaware that his wife was even taking a pregnancy test at their country home and was amazed to discover the news when he heard her screaming in the bathroom.
Alec Baldwin said: “There’s a scream I heard, which is a scream normally reserved [for] if there’s a spider in the house. It really is the most amazing thing. I’m lucky.”
Hilaria Thomas has already noticed a change in her body and she can’t wait to start preparing their home for the new arrival.
She said: “I’m showing. This is actually gonna happen, now we can start the nursery, the everything, the dreaming!”

Alec Baldwin previously revealed that he hoped to become a stay at home father if Hilaria Thomas ever got pregnant.
He joked: “I want her to get rich because I want to retire. She teaches yoga.
“I want her to become the world’s first billionaire yoga teacher. I know it is a long shot, but that’s the plan I’m sticking with right now.
“I want to have a baby and stay home and make the pancakes before I send my wife out to work every day to pay the bills.”
Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas were recently denied reports they were having a baby because they weren’t ready to announce the news.
Hilaria Thomas first sparked speculation she was expecting late last month when she showed off what looked like a baby bump while filming a segment for Extra that saw her pull off some impromptu dance moves.
A British man has become the first male mum in UK despite being born a woman and undergoing a sex change.
The man, who is in his thirties, gave birth last year, according to the Beaumont Society transgender support group.
Joanna Darrell of Beaumont Society said the man had approached the group asking for advice about having a baby.
She said: “We had a general inquiry to the Beaumont Society.
“The society, all it does is provide information and acts as an information hub for people to find data about specific things, and we are able to refer them to more specialist organizations.”
Joanna Darrell added: “We sometimes get people coming back to say thanks for our help. He got back in touch and said he had had the baby.”
She also said she had referred the man to the Gender Identity Research and Education Society, is a charity that provides education, based on research into gender identity and intersex issues, to help improve the lives of those affected by the issues.
Joanna Darrell said: “This is probably unique, in the two years that I have been a member of the society this is the only one that I have been able to refer on.”
It is possible for transgender men who were born women, who still have functioning ovaries and a uterus, to become pregnant while still identifying and living as men.
The man is thought to have had hormone treatment to reactivate his womb, which had not been removed during his original sex change operation.
The baby is believed to have been delivered by caesarean section but it is possible the man retained the ability to give birth naturally.
Joanna Darrell told The Sunday Times she believes he is the first British man to have given birth, and added: “As far as we know there is only him.”
American Thomas Beatie became the world's first pregnant man in 2007 and has since given birth to three children
The man is following in the footsteps of American Thomas Beatie, who became the world’s first pregnant man in 2007 and has since given birth to three children, Susan, Austin and Jensen.
Thomas Beatie, 38, who lives in Arizona with wife Nancy, was born a woman, Tracy Lagondino.
The transgender man began having testosterone injections when he was in his twenties, which lowered his voice, gave him facial hair and altered his reproductive organs.
In 2002, Thomas Beatie had his breasts removed and legally became a man but kept his vagina, uterus and other female sex organs so he could have children because Nancy had had a hysterectomy.
He stopped taking testosterone to become pregnant and the couple bought sperm from an anonymous donor.
Thomas Beatie underwent artificial insemination and reportedly gave birth naturally.
In 2011, Thomas Beatie revealed he was planning to have a hysterectomy after filing for bankruptcy.
Scott Moore, a transgender man, who lives in California with his husband, gave birth in March 2010.
Israeli transgender man Yuval Topper was reported to have given birth on December 28, 2011.
Catherine Mok, a thoroughly modern working mother, decided to give birth during 2012, the Year of the Dragon, which is considered to be one of the most expensive years for having a baby.
Like many ethnic Chinese around the world, Catherine Mok believes the mythical dragon is the most auspicious sign in the traditional 12-year zodiac cycle.
“The dragon is special,” said the Hong Kong native, who works as a makeup artist.
“Of course, I am not willing to wait 12 years for a dragon baby, but I was willing to wait one or two years.”
Catherine Mok is due to deliver her second child, another daughter, in early February.
In part because of greater demand for maternity services, Catherine Mok plans to spend 100,000 Hong Kong dollars ($12,820) for medical care alone.
That is 50% more than the amount spent on the birth of her first child, Ashley, just three years ago during the Year of the Rat, a less auspicious year.
Many couples across Asia are making extra efforts to give birth to so-called “dragon babies” in 2012.
The trend is expected to trigger a temporary fertility boom and place a strain on public services in certain cities, as well as cause some families to go on spending sprees.
In Hong Kong, the government expects 5% more births in 2012, compared with 2011. Doctors and academics believe the figure may be as high 10%.
Companies selling infant formula milk, nappies and prams are expected to cash in, as well as specialist service providers.

According to Chinese tradition, a woman’s body is at its most vulnerable after birth.
If possible, she should enter a period of confinement at home for one month after birth, to ensure her long-term recovery.
BBcare, a Hong Kong agency that provides pre- and postnatal services, expects 20% growth in revenues in 2012, compared with 2011, due to the dragon baby trend.
The largest part of its business is referring postnatal care nurses to expectant families.
Average hourly rates have already risen 15%, according to Wendy Lam, an experienced nurse at BBcare.
The agency says enquiries have jumped 25%, and it is forecasting more successful referrals than in previous years.
With so many mothers giving birth in Hong Kong, the company believes there will be a shortage of postnatal care workers.
The dragon baby boom is also expected to give a boost to property markets in some Asian cities.
In a recent research note, analysts at Citi investment bank argued there would be more births and marriages in the new lunar year, leading to an increase in property transactions in Hong Kong.
It explains that the Western calendar has 365 days, whilst the lunar year has 354 days.
The extra days add up to one month every three years, creating a “leap year” in the Year of Dragon.
Citi property analyst Ken Yeung cites data showing the number of marriages grew by 12% in good years, compared to just 1% in other years.
“These new marriages provide a good source of potential home buyers,” he writes. “This should drive structural demand for homes in 2012, while new supply will remain tight in the near term.”
Property prices in mainland China and Hong Kong have fallen because of Beijing’s efforts to cool economic growth.
The fact that the Year of the Dragon is a lucky time to give birth is widely accepted in the Chinese-speaking world, from Taiwan to Indonesia.
But giving birth this year is especially expensive, compared with other times, and not everyone is jumping into the fray.
Charlie Chen, China consumer analyst at BNP Paribas, says other factors are at work when it comes to deciding when to have a baby.
Like others in the financial industry, his salary and bonus are, in part, determined by the performance of global markets.
With so much uncertainty in Europe and the US, Charlie Chen says he has no choice but to pass on the dragon.
“I am married,” he says.
“Personally, I would like to have a baby in the Year of the Dragon, but I’ve got to postpone it because of market turmoil.”
