Southern restaurant and country store chain Cracker Barrel has taken a public stand in the Duck Dynasty controversy that has swiftly turned into a culture war.
Cracker Barrel has removed “selected products” that “might offend” some diners from shelves days after cast member Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments in a GQ magazine interview hit the internet, resulting in his suspension from the A&E reality hit.
On Saturday, Cracker Barrel posted the following statement on its Facebook page:”Cracker Barrel’s mission is Pleasing People. We operate within the ideals of fairness, mutual respect and equal treatment of all people. These ideals are the core of our corporate culture.
“We continue to offer Duck Commander products in our stores.

There’s been no word from the company as to exactly which products were deemed offensive. On the Cracker Barrel website, almost every Duck Dynasty product is currently being sold at a discount.
The restaurant is the first major retailer to announce any action at all since Phil Robertson’s interview went public. It represents a small slice of a merchandise empire that saw sales of $400 million this year.
The biggest player in Duck Dynasty’s brand bonanza is unsurprisingly Wal-Mart, which accounts for about half that annual $400 million haul. The world’s largest retailer has yet to make any statement on Phil Robertson’s comments or the future of Duck Dynasty products in its stores.
In some Wal-Mart stores, mainly in the south, entire aisles are devoted to the bearded Robertson clan, including camouflage bedding, kids’ pajamas and prayer devotionals. At Wal-Mart’s annual shareholder meeting this past summer, the retailer announced its Duck Dynasty t-shirts, adorned with the faces of Phil Robertson and his family, were its bestselling products across both men’s and women’s apparel.
On Saturday evening, Cracker Barrel’s decision had already resulted in Twitter uproar among Duck Dynasty’s fans, many of whom have also threatened to boycott A&E over Robertson’s suspension.

The actor is the latest prominent person to weigh in with reaction to Phil Robertson’s comments. In recent days, Phil Robertson has drawn support from Sarah Palin and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, while being attacked by gay rights group GLAAD, and losing connections with Cracker Barrel.
In light of Phil Robertson’s suspension from Duck Dynasty, the fifth season of which begins January 15, the Robertson family is reportedly considering walking away from the series, to which A&E has exclusive rights.
A new controversy sparked Friday afternoon after three-year-old videos of Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson speaking at a Pennsylvania church resurfaced.
Last week, Phil Robertson, 67, made what some perceived as anti-gay comments in an article in GQ Magazine. The article is published in the January 2014 edition of the magazine.
The Duck Dynasty star’s controversial comments have started a firestorm of online discussion and led to Phil Robertson’s indefinite suspension from the popular reality show.
But the faith-based comments Phil Robertson made in the GQ article were echoes of statements he made while speaking at events long before the show on A&E Networks started.
In 2010, Phil Robertson was the keynote speaker at an outreach dinner at the Berean Bible Church, 2675 E. High St., in Lower Pottsgrove.
The big game dinner, according to the Senior Pastor Jace Erb, was meant to spread an Evangelistic message.
Jace Erb said the dinner and outreach sessions are meant to bring people into church who normally does not attend.

“At the time, I was able to reach [ Phil Robertson] directly,” Jace Erb said.
Pastor Jace Erb said more than 1,000 people bought $5 tickets for the 2010 dinner when they heard Phil Robertson was a featured speaker.
According to Jace Erb, even before the show began, Phil Robertson was very well known in the hunting community.
In 1973, Robertson founded the Duck Commander Co., which designs and manufactures duck calls.
“I had not heard him speak live, but I had seen a video,” Jace Erb said about hearing Phil Robertson’s message before extending the invitation to him to come speak.
Once Jace Erb announced Phil Robertson was coming to speak, he said the tickets were gone in approximately 15 minutes.
During the 50-minute talk three years ago, Phil Robertson spoke about what happens when people refuse to believe God exists.
“They will dishonor their bodies with one another. Degrade each other,” Phil Robertson said to nearly 500 people gathered at the dinner.
“Women with women. Men with men. They committed indecent acts with one another.”
Despite the growing negative attention Phil Robertson is facing after his comments, Jace Erb said he would still invite him to speak again.

A&E Networks still remains quiet as it receives hundreds of thousands of petitions against its decision to suspend Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson.
Since its Wednesday decision to “indefinitely” suspend Phil Robertson, A&E has yet to publicly clarify what the future of Duck Dynasty reality show might be, what they’ll do with their block of reruns, or even what it really means to be “indefinitely” suspended.
The network’s lack of communication has done nothing to stem the tide of detractors who strongly disagree with its decision to put Phil Robertson on the bench over anti-gay remarks quoted in GQ magazine.
A Change.org petition demanding that Phil Robertson be reinstated and the network issue an apology was steadily climbing toward 100,000 signatures Friday.
A separate petition at a website called IStandWithPhil.com makes a similar appeal. Hosted by the online community Faith Driven Consumers, the website helps its members spend their money with companies that fall in line with their spiritual beliefs. The petition on IStandWithPhil.com had surpassed 130,000 signatures by Friday evening.

Those who’ve signed the IStandWithPhil.com petition are asking for their “views (to) be treated with equality and respect in America’s rich rainbow of diversity,” and for the “network to immediately reinstate Mr. Robertson to <<Duck Dynasty>>, and to formally apologize to him, his family, and the millions of viewers who tune in every week, stand by him, and share his worldview”.
“While the LGBT community may be offended by his opposing viewpoint, your rash, discriminatory, and unfair treatment toward Mr. Robertson – a recognized symbol of the faith community – is a slap in the face to Faith Driven Consumers and everyday Americans alike.”
Both websites are urging people not to watch A&E programming in the meantime.
So far, the number of petitioners doesn’t compare with the millions that Duck Dynasty has drawn to A&E – its fourth-season premiere in August set a record with 11.8 million watching, and the season finale in October brought in 8.4 million – but those signatures would give any network exec flop sweat. Especially when the rest of the Robertson family has stoked the fire with a statement that suggests the future of the show might be in jeopardy.
“We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm,” the Robertson family said in a statement.
“We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of <<Duck Dynasty>>.”
A person with close ties to A&E noted that the Robertson family is under contract, thereby reducing the chances that the family will show up on another channel anytime soon.

“[Phil] is the reason for their success-they’re not going to abandon him. They’re also not about to let anyone threaten their religious beliefs.”

With the specter of defecting advertisers or a boycott, A&E condemned Phil Robertson by putting him on an “indefinite hiatus from filming”.
A&E holds an exclusive rights contract with the Robertsons, but the network may have no choice but to severe ties, especially since neither conservative pundits nor gay rights activists have shown any sign of losing interest in the flap.
Given the success of Duck Dynasty reality show – Season 4 premiere drew a network record 11.8 million viewers – that would be a devastating loss.
But the Robertsons would be highly sought free agents. If nothing else, Glenn Beck offered the family a spot on his fledgling right-wing leaning network, The Blaze.
“[All the other networks] will fold to pressure,” Glenn Beck said on his radio show Thursday.
“They will all fold to money because they are all in over their eyeballs are debt … the only reason why Phil was put on hiatus and not the rest is because it is a money-printing machine.
“May I suggest: Make your stand. You will never have a better chance. And quite honestly, you’re our best shot as people.”

A top A & E executive revealed that the network’s management carefully considered whether to suspend Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty reality show over his anti-gay comments.
According to the executive, Nancy Dubuc, the CEO of A&E Networks, ultimately reached the suspension decision because Phil Robertson’s remarks were in conflict with “the fundamental values of the company.” Nancy Dubuc was responding in part to the concern of employees within the company, the executive said.
“She gathered all the information, assessed it, thought seriously about this,” the executive told TheWrap.

The executive also said that arguments that A & E had somehow taken Phil Robertson’s free speech away were ridiculous, as a suspension from a television show did not curtail his ability to speak out freely.
The source said that any notion that A & E had a conflict with Christianity was also absurd, considering A & E’s History just aired the hit miniseries, The Bible.

Duck Dynasty stars have issued a statement regarding the indefinite suspension of family patriarch Phil Robertson, who was pulled from the A&E reality show on Wednesday after making anti-gay comments in a GQ magazine interview.
In the statement, posted on the Duck Commander website, the Robertson family says that it “cannot imagine” going forward with the show if Phil isn’t aboard, and that it’s “in discussions” with A&E Networks to determine what his suspension means for the future of the show.
The family asserted that Phil Robertson “would never incite or encourage hate” and that they were “disappointed” in the suspension.

Up to now, the petition had collected more than 4,000 signatures.
Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments have since been slammed by GLAAD, but the reality star has drawn support from Sarah Palin and Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal.

“We’ve seen this clash over and over. [It’s] yet to be resolved.”
But several of Megyn Kelly’s panelists sided with A&E and its decision.
Democratic pollster Bernard Whitman told Megyn Kelly that Phil Robertson’s comment’s were “disgusting” and said it “flies in the face of what it means to be Christian.” He applauded A&E for its response.
Conservative commentator Monica Crowley said she was “not a fan of the word police,” but said A&E was within its rights to take action.
“You should be able to say what you want short of inciting violence,” Monica Crowley said.
“A&E, though, has certain standards in practices. As an employee of A&E, A&E then has a right to say <<what he said doesn’t suit us>>.”
Earlier in the day, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin tweeted her own defense of Phil Robertson.
Phil Robertson will likely appear in Duck Dynasty Season 4, which premieres on January 15, as production is largely wrapped.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal jumped to the defense of Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson, who was indefinitely suspended from the show Wednesday after making anti-gay comments.
In a statement, Bobby Jindal praised 67-year-old Phil Robertson and his family as “great citizens” of Louisiana state, where the lucrative show is filmed, and he slammed the “politically correct crowd” for criticizing his comments.
“I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive,” Bobby Jindal said.

Bobby Jindal was not the only prominent GOP political figure to weigh in on the controversy.

Duck Dynast ‘s Missy Robertson revealed the biggest challenge in her marriage to Jase Robertson was when they had their youngest child, Mia.
“She was born with a cleft lip and it was heartbreaking. It was especially tough on Jase to see his little girl with a disability, so we had to alternate who was the <<rock>> during that time,” Missy Robertson told InTouch magazine.

But now, 10-year-old Mia “just bursts into a room and starts talking – she’s even done public speaking in front of thousands of people!”.

In a video filmed while making Duck The Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas, Si Robertson gets a little emotional while sharing his favorite Christmas memory.
“We lived in a farming community. The hands that drive the tractors. . . they don’t make a lot of money,” Uncle Si Robertson recalls.
“Daddy had fell off an oil rig, broke his back and was not working.”
Si Robertson, 65, grew up in Vivian, Louisiana, with six siblings. When his mother, Merrit Robertson, was asked by a wife of one of the farmhands what she was getting the kids for Christmas that year, she said there wasn’t going to be a Christmas due to the lack of income.

“Two weeks later, [the woman] comes back and hands mama an envelope,” Uncle Si recalls.
“It was something like $500 or $600 in an envelope with <<Merry Christmas>> on it for the kids.”
“That’s my favorite Christmas memory,” Si Robertson adds, appearing to get a little choked up.
“This is people that didn’t have much, giving a lot. Which is what Christmas is all about: giving.”

Duck Dynasty: Season 4 will street on January 7.
The Season 4 premiere episode brought in a whopping 11.8 million total viewers when it hit the schedule in August. That’s up from the 9.6 million total viewers that tuned in for the Season 3 finale.
A&E is not slowing down on its Duck Dynasty rollout.

After a lengthy contract negotiation with the Robertson family over the summer, Duck Dynasty Season 5 is set to premiere on January 15, 2014.

Duck Dynasty Christmas Special averaged 8.9 million viewers on Wednesday night with back-to-back episodes at 10 p.m.
Among adults 18-49, Duck Dynasty brought in 4.5 million viewers, according to Hollywood Reporter.
And with adults 25-54, the Robertsons show had 4.6 million.

In 2013, Duck Dynasty drove primetime ratings up 12% iamong the targeted adults.
However, Duck Dynasty Christmas Special was still down from several of the highs of 2013. The reality show hit a series high back in August with 11.8 million viewers, with a previous record set in April with 9.5 million.
Duck Dynasty Season 5 is set to bow on January 15, 2014.

Duck Dynasty stars returned to TV for a Christmas special and proved themselves to be a triple threat when they showed off their acting skills at their church’s nativity play.
“Considering the talent involved, it’s borderline miraculous [we pulled off the play],” Jase Robertson said.
Even the Robertson’s youngest brother Jep, who has terrible stage fright, managed to remember his one line.
However, Uncle Si Robertson, who played one of the wise men, insisted on calling frankincense “franken scents.”
“Everybody knows that <<franken>> is a prefix,” Si Robertson explained.
“Like <<franken stein>> and <<frank and beans>>.”
While the nativity play, which featured the entire family, went on fairly smoothly, the episode focused on what the Robertson family does best: hunting.
“Well every Christmas, it seems like my house is invaded by yuppies,” said Phil Robertson as he prepared to go hunting for the family’s Christmas dinner.

“All they do all day long is decorate and talk.”
Before Phil Robertson could head out to hunt, Miss Kay and Jessica insisted he take them hog hunting.
“In the spirit of Christmas and in the spirit of the American West, we say y’all get your camo on,” he told them before quickly regretting his decision to let the women join him.
“If the yapping keeps up there won’t be a hog coming within a mile of us,” Phil Robertson complained. Failing to get Jessica and Miss Kay to stay quiet, Phil devised a plan to trick them into acting foolish.
He told them to scream for the pigs to come while walking in a circle and bending close to the ground. After several minutes of this Phil couldn’t hold back his laughter and the jig was up.
But there was no harm done as Phil soon after shot a pig for their Christmas dinner. He enlisted the help of Jessica who was not too happy to help her father-in-law drag the pig back to the truck.
“I’m a better pioneer woman [than Jessica],” Miss Kay said.
“I’ve been helping cleaning and carrying hogs since I could carry and clean hogs.”
Meanwhile, Willie Robertson was searching for the perfect present to get his wife Korie after she admitted he was not the best gift giver. In previous years she received a Snuggie and a bedazzled clutch.
Determined to make this year different, Willie Robertson took the advice of younger brother Jep and had a family portrait framed.
Satisfied his gift would make an impression on his wife, Willie Robertson was disappointed when brother Jase turned up with the same gift for his wife Missy.
Despite the minor setback, both wives loved their gifts and Willie was happy to save the “camo pajamas” he bought Korie for her birthday.
Alan Robertson also made an appearance on last night’s episode sporting some new scruff. The former minister led the family and the church in a prayer after the nativity play.
In Duck Dynasty’s upcoming hour-long Christmas special, airing on A&E on December 11 at 10 p.m. ET, Phil Robertson takes Miss Kay and Jessica for a hunting trip to catch a hog for the family’s Christmas dinner.

However, the family patriarch immediately regrets that decision.
Duck Dynasty Christmas special will also include the Robertson gang performing a live nativity play in their church. Fortunately, they’ve got the beards to play Joseph and the three wise men.
