Si Robertson has opened up about family struggles and his history with alcohol abuse in his new book, Si-cology: Tales and Wisdom from Duck Dynasty’s Favorite Uncle.
New details from the book reported by RadarOnline surfaced this week:
1. Si and Phil Robertson’s mother suffered from mental health problems.
When Si and Phil Robertson were both young boys, their mother “suffered a nervous breakdown and was diagnosed as manic-depressive,” the 65-year-old wrote.
“She spent a lot of time in hospitals and the state mental institution.”
Si Robertson also wrote that his own mind is “faulty.”
2. While serving in Vietnam, Si Robertson turned to alcohol.
“Although I was there for only one year, it was a really difficult time in my life,” Si Robertson wrote.
“Believe me, it was easy to find a drink in Can Tho if you wanted one… You could find a drink and a girl whenever you wanted for the right price.”
The stress of military life in Vietnam drove Si Robertson to drink, he said.
Si Robertson has opened up about family struggles and his history with alcohol abuse in his new book
“It was the only time in my life when I drank heavily… I was largely drinking to forget where I was. When you’re in a place like Vietnam, you get to a point where you don’t care anymore. You’re in a place that’s foreign to you, and you know for a fact that many people there hate you and will kill you if they get the chance. It really does something to your mind to know that many of the people living around you don’t like you and want you to die.”
3. When he returned from service, Si Robertson stopped drinking.
“I drank so much beer and whiskey in Vietnam that I decided I would quit drinking alcohol altogether once I returned home,” Si Robertson wrote.
“I saw what alcohol was doing to me in Vietnam and realized I needed to stop for good.”
Uncle Si is known for drinking two gallons of tea per day, a habit that his doctor endorses: “He said I’ve probably got the cleanest kidneys in the world!”
4. Si Robertson’s son Scott had a troubled childhood.
Si Robertson and his wife Christine’s son, Scott, was born almost two months premature and “was trouble before he was even born,”
Uncle Si wrote: “Scott was suicidal from the time he was about five years old. His behavior was really erratic as a child. When Scott would get tired, he would throw his arms out and fall backward… When Scott was angry, he was out of control and did a lot of damage.”
Eventually, Scott Robertson was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome and now leads a happy, healthy life.
“It took me a while to realize Scott needed help,” Si Robertson wrote.
Duck Dynasty star Si Robertson recently spoke to Fox 411 in an interview about his faith.
Si Robertson, like all the other members of his Christian family, spoke openly about his faith.
“That’s what got me through 65 years of life. My belief in God and what He’s done for us and what He will do for us. That’s a lot of the problems now. Look a lot of people don’t believe there’s evil. If there’s good in this world, then you’re being intellectually dishonest, if you believe there’s a good power you’ve also got to believe there’s an evil power too. There are physical laws that are in place. We’ve got the physical world we see but there’s a microscopic world that you have to have special stuff to see, just because you don’t see it with your naked eye doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”
Si Robertson talked about his wife’s difficulty in conceiving, saying that he believes his two children were miracles from God
In the interview, Uncle Si Robertson also talked about his wife’s difficulty in conceiving, saying that he believes his two children were miracles from God.
“She went to all the specialists and they all said, <<You’ll never have kids>>. I said, <<Don’t worry about it>>. She said, <<Yeah but I know you love ’em so I’m not going to marry you>>. I said, <<Hey, don’t worry about that. The doctors don’t have the final word. I believe in a higher power>>, and I’ve got what you call two miracle babies, my daughter and my son and they gave me four grandsons a piece.”
Si Robertson, 65, has been married to his wife Christine for 43 years. He also served in the military for 25 years before joining the Duck Commander business.
Si Robertson’s job in his family’s duck-call manufacturing business is to fashion the reeds that are inserted in every patented duck call.
During this week’s episode of Duck Dynasty, Si Robertson was driving everyone crazy at the Duck Commander warehouse with his with new scooter.
As Si Robertson struggled back out of the bathroom on his scooter, his nephews discussed his condition.
“There’s nothing wrong with him. I’ve already talked to the doctor,” Willie Robertson explained to Jase.
“He made up the whole thing. [It’s] just hemorrhoids.”

“Look, these guys don’t have respect for their elders,” groused Si Robertson.
“It’s like they don’t realize, hey, they’re gonna get old one day. Guess what happens then, big boy. No one’s goin’ to be helpin’ you in the commode, either.”
Angry, Si Robertson drove off and headed down the road on his scooter. Eventually, Willie Robertson and the rest of the Duck Commander team caught up with Uncle Si, who after a bit of sweet talking–and an offer from Willie to replace his bumper–got into the back of the pickup truck under his own power.
“When it comes to family, you have to learn to read between the lines,” explained Willie Robertson.
“People don’t always come right out and say what they actually want–especially Si, who can’t even pronounce what he wants. But one thing I’ve learned is that doesn’t matter what they’re asking for. What they really want is to know that you care. Whether you spend your day hunting turtles, or shell out a bunch of money for some stupid bumper, it’s all worth it to show your family you love them.”
This week’s episode of Duck Dynasty revealed Miss Kay Robertson lost her pet turtle, Mr. T.
Immediately, suspicion was cast on Miss Kay’s sweet pooch, Bobo.
“Maybe this little boy here had turtle for breakfast,” said Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson, pointing to Bobo.
“See if you got little pieces of Mr. T in the stool of that dog next time he goes out there in the woods.”
“That’s an awful thing to say,” replied Miss Kay, who opened Bobo’s mouth and took a whiff of breath.
“Oh goodnight,” she said, waving away the stench.

“Ain’t nothin’ smells worse than a dead turtle,” said Phil Robertson, shaking his head.
“Ol’ turtle-breath.”
As a gesture of love, Phil Robertson offered to go turtle hunting to find Miss Kay a new pet.
“There aren’t many things that can get me up and out of my chair, especially when I’m sharpening my knife,” explained Phil Robertson.
“And the last thing that I ever thought would get me out of my chair would be a turtle hunt.”
Miss Kay Robertson, however, had a sure-fire way to get Phil to fetch her a new turtle.
“If you want some lovin’ tonight, today is the day,” Miss Kay said resolutely.
“So is this one of them no honey on the biscuit maneuvers here?” Phil asked, somewhat helplessly.
“You got it, Jack,” smiled Miss Kay.

This week’s episode of Duck Dynasty showed Si Robertson feeling neglected by his family.
Uncle Si Robertson decided to draw some attention to himself by accidentally-on-purpose forcing his nephew Willie to bump into the front his truck in the Duck Commander parking lot.
“Hey, are you going to pay for this?” asked Si Robertson, pointing to the non-existent damage to his bumper.
Willie Robertson looked at dent-free bumper and shrugged: “Pay for what?”
“Look,” declared Si Robertson, wagging his finger.
“You’re going to pay for this. It’s probably going to run you $3,500.”
After a brief debate, Willie Robertson dismissed his uncle and got into his truck: “Yeah, whatever, Si.”
“You’ll be hearing from my lawyer,” warned Uncle Si.

The next day, John Godwin, Justin Martin, Jase Robertson and his brother Jep are inside Duck Commander HQ, debating the potential reproductive capabilities of mermaids. Willie Robertson arrived and learned that Si was at the doctor’s office.
“For what,” Willie asked dubiously.
“Is he sick?”
“Nah,” said Jase Robertson.
“After y’all had your wreck.”
Willie Robertson’s wife Korie came in the warehouse to announce that there was “a man outside and he said he’s here to deliver Si”.
“What is he, a pizza,” Willie cracked.
The crew went outside to see Si Robertson grandly exit out of a minivan and down a motorized ramp in his brand-new, bright blue mobility scooter.
“Si, get off that thing,” said Willie Robertson.
“I can’t,” replied Uncle Si.
“I got back damage – I’ve got residual nerve damage in my back. It compressed two or three vertebra back there – I likely broke my neck.”
Willie Robertson was not especially convinced of Si’s injuries.
“About once a year, Si comes up with some stupid excuse to miss work,” he explained.
“Last year, he was on crutches for two weeks before I finally broke down and made him employee of the month.”

Scheduled for next year are Faith in the Duck Blind, The Women of Duck Commander and Phil-Osophy.
The Duck Dynasty series first aired in 2012. Set in Louisiana bayou country, it follows a brood of brothers who manufacture duck calls and love to go bird hunting.
Faith in the Duck Blind will be written by Jase Robertson, and according to Simon & Schuster’s website, will detail “his personal family life, his childhood days with a drunken father, and how he came to faith.” Jase Robertson will share “his strong commitment to not be like Phil had been, opting for total abstinence from drinking and s**,” and his first date with wife Missy.
The Women of Duck Commander will bring together Miss Kay, Korie, Missy, Jessica, and Lisa Robertson‘s thoughts about what’s great – and what’s challenging – about supporting the bearded men in their lives.
No official synopsis on Phil-Osophy has been posted yet, but based on the title, it sounds as though Phil Robertson will be sharing more of his beloved nuggets of wisdom about living life to the fullest.

The Duck Commander warehouse in Monroe, Louisiana, attracts nearly 3,000 people daily, with hopes of catching a glimpse of a Si Robertson.
Uncle Si Robertson may be just as elusive after arriving in Minnesota via private plane.
“We have a bunch of corporate sponsors who made it possible for the Minnesota visit, so they are going to be cranking,” said Si Robertson.
“They only are going to autograph if you have a VIP ticket. There are only a few people who will actually get their autographs.”
Ticket prices range from $30 to $250.

The Duck Dynasty stars offered a stage show Sunday that brought their audience of several thousand to their feet at Lexington’s Rupp Arena.
For much of the two-hour show, the Robertsons in attendance – Miss Kay, Alan, Korie, John Luke, Sadie and Willie – seemed to be having as much fun as the crowd.
Willie Robertson snapped pictures of his mom, Miss Kay; Korie beamed when her children John Luke and Sadie spoke; Alan belly-laughed until he cried as John Luke, his nephew, explained his lack of sporting prowess.
“I was the catcher on my T-ball team,” said John Luke Robertson, 17, pausing just a beat.
“Think about it.”
The faith that keeps the family together, portrayed with a family prayer over dinner as each episode closes, was more deeply on display than it is on television. Each family member, sitting onstage on high stools, seemed completely engaged as dark family secrets were told again in hopes that other families could see that God could, and would, work in their lives.
“We have not always been the happy close family you see on the show,” said Alan Robertson.
The Robertsons, who have used their fame to help charitable groups, were in Lexington for a fundraiser for Frankfort Christian Academy so it can put heat and air-conditioning in the school gym.
Miss Kay Robertson, dressed with a little sass in a red shirt under a black lace tunic, somehow managed to make folks laugh as she told how family patriarch Phil drank and partied too much for too long. On Duck Dynasty, Miss Kay often gets her way with a gentle nudge and heap of something delicious and homemade on a platter, but she showed some of the steel under her soft voice and sweet smile as she talked about the early years of her marriage.
The Duck Dynasty stars offered a stage show Sunday that brought their audience of several thousand to their feet at Lexington’s Rupp Arena
“It just got worse and worse,” she said.
At one point, Phil ran a bar and required his non-drinking wife to be the barmaid.
But, Miss Kay said, she tried to follow her grandmother’s advice to fight for her marriage no matter what. That is until Phil told her to “take her kids” and leave because they were “ruining his good time.” But, she said: “How was I supposed to be fighting when he put us out?”
Soon enough, Phil Robertson, a wreck when left on his own, found his way to the church. Forty years later, Miss Kay’s voice catches as she remembers the day Phil came to the Lord and was baptized as she stood there with her three boys, all of them crying.
Alan Robertson, the oldest brother, has the most vivid memories of his father’s dark days but still found himself at 14 secretly drinking and causing trouble while piously going to church. The veil fell at 17 when he and his buddies trashed the neighborhood. Miss Kay asked him, the one she had always depended on to do right, if he had been drinking.
“Yes, ma’am,” he said.
“I was respectful as I broke her heart,” Alan Robertson recalled.
Like the Prodigal Son, Alan Robertson returned home after an ill-conceived attempt to find himself in New Orleans and went on to become a pastor.
After the family’s trials, Alan Robertson said: “We understand God’s grace.”
Family challenges help them do the right thing in the spotlight, said John Luke. Portrayed on the show as rather quiet except when gassed up to get a tooth pulled, he told, with the timing of a comedian, how he failed at every team endeavor from basketball to chess. But, John Luke said, his struggles led him more to church, and there he found his voice.
God was preparing him, he said, when he didn’t know what he was being prepared for. He also told the audience God “is preparing you for something right now.”
Willie Robertson got one of the biggest reactions from the crowd when he repeated a performance he used to do on the school bus for quarters. As “the human juke box” he spat out a beat box rap to a Foreigner tune.
The enthusiasm for that was matched when the Duck Commander CEO had a bit of a prayer-warrior moment. Willie Robertson told the crowd that by watching Duck Dynasty, they were part of a powerful movement to change entertainment.
“You are supporting positive, pro-family entertainment where there is prayer,” he said.
Willie Robertson said families around the world are seeing their pray.
Each family member, from Willie’s elegant wife, Korie, to his earnestly adorable daughter, Sadie, made the point in her own way that the credit for much of what they have can be traced to what they believe.
And that faith in action was shown in a moment near the end of the show that probably was missed by most. While the Robertsons took a final bow, with a string of members of the military onstage behind them, Willie Robertson took the trademark stars and stripes bandanna from his head and gave it without fanfare to a veteran in a wheelchair.
One of Willie Robertson’s favorite recipes is Beans and Rice.
Excerpts from the book The Duck Commander Family by Willie and Korie Robertson.
The Duck Commander CEO and Duck Dynasty star said: “A short time after Phil’s family moved to Dixie, [his father] Pa fell eighteen feet from the floor of a drilling rig and landed on his head. He broke two vertebrae in his back and ruptured his stomach. The accident nearly killed him. Doctors fused the vertebrae in his back with bone from his hip and repaired his stomach. But Pa was forced to wear a heavy Plaster-of-Paris cast from neck to hip for nearly two years and obviously couldn’t work. Making matters worse, Granny was confined to a mental hospital at the time, so Pa was left to care for five of his children while he was immobilized.
“Phil’s older brothers, Jimmy Frank and Harold, were enrolled in classes at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Both of them volunteered to come home and work to help the family make ends meet. But Pa insisted they stay in school and finish their education. The family somehow survived on Pa’s disability checks of thirty-five dollars a week. Phil’s older sister, Judy, did most of the cooking and cared for her younger siblings, Silas and Jan. Tommy and Phil gathered pecans and sold them to local markets. The family subsided on rice and beans, cornbread, and whatever fish and game the boys could catch. Rice and beans was a staple dish at the Robertson dinner table. A hundred-pound bag of rice and several cans of beans would last for weeks. There are dozens of ways to prepare rice and beans, and the recipes could be altered by adding a simple gravy or squirrels, quail, or fish so it was a perfect meal for the struggling Robertson family.
“You can be creative with this. Don’t worry about doing it exactly the way it is written, try stuff, if you don’t have an ingredient make it anyway. I make beans every time we make or buy a ham — the ham bone is the key. You will find hunks of that ham when it cooks off the bone that you never knew existed and they are delicious. NEVER throw ham bone away!”
One of Willie Robertson’s favorite recipes is Beans and Rice
Ingredients:
- 1 pound dry kidney Pinto beans
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 6 cups water
- a couple of slices of bacon, cut up
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (less if you are feeding kids)
- 2 bay leaves (if you don’t have it in your cabinet don’t worry about it)
- a pinch of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Phil Robertson’s Cajun Style Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon parsley flakes (again, don’t sweat it if you don’t have it)
- 1 pound Andouille sausage, sliced (Add more if you like sausage, or a different kind if this is too spicy.)
- Ham bone with as much ham left on it as you want (I buy one that is honey glazed, take the ham off for sandwiches, then use what’s left for beans)
- 4 cups water
- 2 cups long grain white rice
- Louisiana Hot Sauce
Directions:
- Rinse beans and transfer to a large pot with ham bone six cups of water. Make sure the water is covers all the beans.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and cut up bacon over medium heat. Sauté onion, garlic, bell pepper, and celery for three to four minutes.
- Stir cooked vegetables into beans.
- Season with bay leaves, cayenne pepper, parsley, and Cajun Style Seasoning.
- Bring mixture to a boil and then reduce heat to medium and cook 4 to 6 hours, or until beans are soft and done. Simmer for 2 1/2 hours.
- Cut sausage into slices and brown in skillet on medium heat with a teaspoon of olive oil.
- Stir sausage into beans towards the end of cooking time and continue to simmer for thirty minutes.
- Add a pinch of brown sugar to taste.
- In a saucepan, bring water and rice to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for twenty minutes. Serve beans over steamed white rice and add plenty of Louisiana Hot Sauce.
One of Willie Robertson’s favorite recipes is Garlic Frog Legs.
Excerpts from the book The Duck Commander Family by Willie and Korie Robertson.
The Duck Commander CEO and Duck Dynasty star said: “Many things in life – whether it’s food, business, or even someone’s personality – slowly evolve over time. They don’t necessarily get better overnight, but if you keep working at them and stay focused, chances are they’re going to end up being better than when you started. Take for instance my recipe for frog legs. When I was growing up, Kay’s frog legs were one of my favorite meals. But as I got older, I started experimenting with ways to cook frog legs and added my own personal touch to her recipe. Kay has probably never heard of garlic-infused grape seed oil (she’s never used anything but butter or Crisco), but that’s what I like to use to fry my frog legs. And for the record there are many infused olive oils I like using nowadays. Kay still doesn’t understand how they “infuse” oil, but I tell her, <<Don’t question, just enjoy>>.
“I had some frogs and garlic and dreamed this up one night. It is so good. For the few hundred who will actually go get frogs, try it. The rest, well… use chicken instead. Good luck.”
One of Willie Robertson’s favorite recipes is Garlic Frog Legs
Ingredients:
- Fresh mushrooms
- Bunch of frog legs
- Butter
- Garlic-infused grape seed oil
- Flour
- Can of beer
- White wine
- Phil Robertson’s Zesty Cajun Style Seasoning
- Bulb of garlic
Directions:
- Soak frog legs in beer for an hour or so.
- Season frog legs with Zesty Cajun Style Seasoning.
- Roll frog legs in flour and set aside.
- In a large black skillet bring butter and grape seed oil up to high (don’t burn the butter, it will brown when burning). It doesn’t take much oil and butter, just about a half-inch or so.
- When oil and butter starts sizzling, put frog legs in and brown on each side. It should be about halfway up on frogs, just enough to brown.
- If butter gets low, throw another half stick in. Set browned frog legs aside.
- With what’s left in the pan, add white wine, garlic (whole pods, peeled), mushrooms, and cook for three to four minutes.
- Add frog legs to white wine mix. Cover and cook at 300 degrees F for thirty minutes until meat is falling off bone. (You will know it’s done, believe me!)
One of Willie Robertson’s favorite recipes is Duck Wraps.
Excerpts from the book The Duck Commander Family by Willie and Korie Robertson.
The Duck Commander CEO and Duck Dynasty star said: “I like to say Duck Commander is a lot like duck wraps. Huh? No, really it is. It’s a bunch of things that may not seem like they belong together, but when they all come together they make something spectacular. Everyone at Duck Commander brings something special to the table, and rather than fighting against one another, we complement each other. Do we have our disagreements? Of course! But we don’t take away from the unique flavors each one brings. We are all held together by a common love for family and for ducks, but more importantly we are fortunate to share a common faith. Our faith is the toothpick that holds the entire wrap together. If it wasn’t for our faith in God, I can assure you, we would fall apart.
“Simply the best way for my taste buds to eat a duck. I wrap many things but duck has such a good flavor. Play with it and add different types of “sweets” for topping. Honey is great but there are others. If you bite into the first one and don’t think it’s done, don’t panic, put them all in a pot and let them steam on low fire.”
One of Willie Robertson’s favorite recipes is Duck Wraps
Ingredients:
- 8 to 12 duck breasts
- 1 pound thin-sliced bacon
- 8 to 12 jalapeno slices
- 1 package cream cheese
- 1 package Duck Commander Rub
- 1 jar of honey
Directions:
- Soak duck breasts in salt water overnight in the refrigerator.
- Cut an incision down the length of each breast and stuff with cream cheese and one jalapeno slice.
- Coat each stuffed duck breast with Duck Commander Rub and wrap each with one slice of bacon, securing the wrap with a toothpick.
- Cook wraps on an open grill until bacon is crisp and cream cheese starts to ooze out (it’s okay for the wrap to be medium-rare; don’t overcook or it will dry out).
- Drizzle wraps with honey and cook for an additional two minutes.

Duck Dynasty’s Willie Robertson and his wife Korie are the proud parents of five children, both biological and adopted.
In a touching video footage, Willie Robertson talked about the adoption of their biracial son Lil Will.
Korie and Willie Robertson’s adopted son, Lil Will, has appeared in some episodes of Duck Dynasty. The couple, who have known each other since they were young children, are also raising daughter Rebecca as a foster child, after having hosted her initially as an exchange student. Willie and Korie Robertson’s biological children are John Luke, Sadie, and Bella.

In Korie Robertson’s Twitter bio she calls herself the “proud wife” of Willie, and touches on their unique family situation: “Mom to four awesome kids plus a sweet exchange student who became ours. Love my big family. Thankful. God is good.”
Though not originally from a hunting family, Korie fit in with the Robertsons right away.
As Willie Robertson’s wife and business partner, she helped him grow the company into an ever-expanding enterprise. She serves as the Duck Commander office manager and has to make her presence known in order to keep the workshop from turning into a funhouse.

Duck Dynasty’s Sadie Robertson is producing weekly video devotionals on Monday nights called I Am Different.
Sadie Robertson, 16, is also designing a clothing line in an effort to encourage modesty in a culture where fashion trends are often contrary to the ways of the Lord.
Willie Robertson’s daughter does not have a typical teenage lifestyle. The high school student from Monroe, Louisiana loves the Lord, is close with her family, and excels in sports – and she also happens to be a reality television star.
Sadie Robertson told TC Magazine that she realizes that God has given her fame in order for her to make a difference for Christ.
“When we were little and said our prayers at night, I would always say, <<God, please give me an opportunity to make a difference in this world>>. I mean, you always want to, but you never know how to do it. Now that God’s blessed us with this TV show, here’s that opportunity,” she said.
Even though the producers of A & E’s hit show Duck Dynasty edit out much of the Robertson’s faith-based lives, Sadie says that people have been positively impacted by even so much as the short prayer that patriarch Phil Robertson prays over the family meal at the end of each episode.
Sadie Robertson knows that her status as a television star will give her an opportunity to be a good example for other young women.
Sadie Robertson and her best friend, Kolby Koloff, have created I Am Different, a weekly devotional video series on YouTube
“I think it’s awesome that people see something in me that’s different, but it’s really a challenge to me and my spiritual way and everything. If little girls are looking up to me, I’ve got to be the example they need. If I’m going to claim that I’m different from everybody else on TV, I’ve got to be different than everybody else. It’s encouraging to me and really helping me to be a better person,” she said.

“People think they need to be a part of the world to have fun. To see that we can have fun and still be Christian-based, that’s cool, that’s different,” she said.
Kolby Koloff and Sadie Robertson are hoping and praying that the devotions will expand peoples’ way of thinking.
“The world’s view is completely opposite from God’s view,” said Sadie Robertson in the introduction video.
The girls plan to release a YouTube video via their Twitter account, @_i_am_different, each Monday.
Sadie Robertson is also creating her own line of conservative prom dresses. The collection will be available in the spring of 2014.

ABC’s Last Man Standing Season 3 premiered last week-end by welcoming Duck Dynasty’s Willie and Si Robertson in the first episode, Back to School.
Willie and Si Robertson are visiting the sporting goods store in preparation for a man-versus-nature challenge.
“We don’t want nature to have a chance,” as Uncle Si Robertson puts it.

There are also oddly juxtaposed jokes about wearing camouflage to church and studying philosophy.
Max Baxter (Tim Allen) and his family welcomed the Robertsons who were quipping about deer hunting and whatnot.
Willie and Si Robertson are also a little concerned about “Lady-beard”, aka Kyle (Christoph Sanders). It seems that Mandy broke his brain with all of her intellectual college talk.
Willie Robertson knows what to do though. Si Robertson, however, seems to be advocating murder as a more permanent solution to the problem.
Last Man Standing Season 3 premiered on Friday, September 20 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Duck Dynasty guys Willie, Jase and Si Robertson were invited at a sold-out show at Detroit’s MotorCity Casino Hotel to share stories, their faith, duck call demonstrations, and hunting tips on September 22.
“People are thinking, what in the world are these guys going to do on stage?” Jase Robertson told The Daily Tribune.

“We share stories of our lives. We share our faith. We banter back and forth. A lot of that is off the top of our heads. When we get together, that’s the way we are.”
The Robertsons’ patriarch Phil Robertson created the Duck Commander duck call in 1972 and founded Duck Commander Co. in 1973.
All the family members were raised to hunt and cook duck, dove, squirrel, deer, geese and turkey.
Duck Dynasty’s Jase Robertson revealed how he convinced wife Missy to eat frog.
“I’m not a trophy type hunter in any way. We were raised on the river bank, and we were extremely poor. We commercial-fished the river for money. We lived off the land. Ninety percent of the meals we had growing up were from the woods and the water,” Jase Robertson said.
“I only deer hunt for food. The big bucks that everybody’s after, they don’t taste near as good as some of the others.”
Jase Robertson has had fun with his wife Missy, who was not raised killing her own food. One time he brought home frog and convinced her to eat it by telling her it was chicken.

After eating the meal, Missy Robertson told Jase: “That was the greatest chicken I ever ate. What did you do to it?”
“Well, you just ate frog,” Jase Robertson replied.
Jase Robertson said that their newfound fame hasn’t changed how the family interacts with each other or their values.
“We’re not into things. What can you buy? What can you do? If you’re happy with the people you’re with, to me, that’s what matters,” he said.
“We’re enjoying the ride. It’s a good thing. We use [our fame] as a platform to share our faith. We go around and try to make a positive impact on our world and use our notoriety to do that.”
Duck Dynasty, a half-hour reality TV show, debuted in 2012 and follows the Robertson’s family’s lives in Louisiana.

Duck Dynasty’s Willie, Jase and Si Robertson were in Detroit on Sunday for a sold-out performance at MotorCity Casino, and the Tigers wisely took advantage of the opportunity.
Uncle Si, Willie and Jase Robertson were invited to Comerica Park to throw out the first pitch at Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers.

Fox Sports Detroit’s Steve Kornacki wrote about the event: “The sellout crowd at Comerica recognized them as they walked onto the field because their long beards quickly catch your attention. They also were wearing Tigers home uniform tops and baseball caps. Willie, of course, wore his standard stars-and-stripes bandana. Many of the fans gave them a standing ovation as they strode to the mound.”
“That was some great welcome we got,” said Jase Robertson.
“The crowd was awesome.”

Duck Dynasty’s Jep Robertson is Willie’s youngest brother and son of Phil and Miss Kay.
Jep Robertson was born on May 28th, 1978.
He is the “baby” of the family, according to Miss Kay.
Jep Robertson has been married to his wife Jessica since October 7th, 2001 and they have 4 children together: Lily, 10; Merrit, 8; Priscilla, 6; and River, 4.

He didn’t appear as much in the earlier seasons of the show, but has started to change that in the 3rd and 4th seasons.
This was mostly because Jep Robertson helped film certain parts of episodes when the guys ventured into the swampy areas.
Filming and editing seems to be one of Jep Robertson’s big passions along with photography.

Miss Kay Robertson’s tea is a smash hit on A&E’s hit show Duck Dynasty.

How to make sweet tea like on Duck Dynasty
Simply boil the tea bags in water over the stove to extract the tea’s flavors. Once boiled and still warm you add granulated sugar and cold water to taste. This explains how Miss Kay Robertson can have an abundance of this enticing sweet tea at all times.
This recipe is extremely popular in the Southern states, brewed up for generations to cool off during a hot summer’s day.
Miss Kay’s tea recipe is no doubt a classic, a little piece of history passed through the ages, making it such a huge hit in the Robertson family. While this iced tea recipe may be a classic, it can be healthy.
A healthy alternative to granulated sugar is some organic honey or xylitol. Remember to slice some citrus fruits to add to the pitcher of sweet tea as well, this will enhance the effect of tea’s natural antioxidant properties.
So you may not be able to have Miss Kay’s exact secret tea recipe, but you can make your own iced tea with the same down home feel.
You can also infuse your iced tea with mint, fruit, your favorite herbs or even spike your pitcher with gin or vodka for that summer party drink.
