Brad Pitt won the first acting Oscar of his career – picking up the best
supporting actor trophy for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s movie.
He was the first winner of the night, and immediately used his speech to
attack the way the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump were
Brad Pitt referred to the fact that Republican senators voted against
allowing witnesses including former National Security Adviser John Bolton to
He said: “They told me I only
have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John
Bolton this week.
“I’m thinking maybe Quentin does
a movie about it and in the end the adults do the right thing.”
Brad Pit, 56, moved from the political to the personal, paying tribute to
co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and reflecting on his journey to Hollywood
Joaquin Phoenix, who won best actor for his remarkable performance in the
origin story about Batman’s nemesis, also used the podium to send a heartfelt
message about the state of the world, saying actors have the power to give a
“voice for the voiceless”.
After telling the audience to stop clapping him as he took to the stage –
“Don’t do that” – Joaquin Phoenix managed to cover topics from animal
rights and the environment to racism and sexism.
The vegan activist told the audience that “we feel entitled to
artificially inseminate a cow, and when she gives birth, we steal her baby even
though her cries of anguish are unmistakable”.
The actor also pointed out his own flaws: “I’ve been a scoundrel in my life. I’ve been cruel at times and
hard to work with, but so many people in this room have given me a second
Joaquin Phoenix ended his speech by quoting a lyric written by his late
brother River: “Run to the rescue
and love and peace will follow.”
Laura Dern won best supporting actress for playing a divorce lawyer in Marriage Story.
A day before her 53rd birthday, the actress said the award is the best
birthday present ever.
Laura Dern comes from an illustrious acting family, but in winning managed
something her parents have not. Mother Diane Ladd has been nominated for three
Academy Awards, and dad Bruce Dern has two unsuccessful nominations.
She told the audience: “Some say
never meet your heroes.
“But I say if you’re really
blessed, you get them as your parents.”
Renee Zellweger used her speech to pay tribute to Judy Garland, who was
nominated for two Oscars in the 1950s and 60s.
The actress said: “Judy Garland
did not receive this honor in her time,
“I am certain that this moment is an extension of the celebration of her legacy.”
“[Brad Pitt] has a statutory duty to pay child support. As of present, [he] has paid no meaningful child support since separation,” Angelina Jolie’s lawyer said in the filing on August 7.
“Given that the informal arrangements around the payment of the children’s expenses have not been regularly sustained… for over a year and a half, [Angelina Jolie] intends to file… for the establishment of a retroactive child support order,” the documents stated.
The actress cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed to end the marriage, and the pair became embroiled in a bitter child custody dispute in the months following the announcement.
Brad Pitt was investigated for possible child abuse after losing his temper in front of some of the children, but was later cleared of the allegations.
An Idaho startup says it can connect people who own smartphones with people who want amicable divorces.
Family law attorney Michelle Crosby founded Wevorce in 2012, and since then, the 15-employee company has facilitated almost 700 divorces, and only 2 percent of the couples resorted to litigation. Based on those results, and future prospects that include a partnership with the U.S. military, the company raised $3 million through Techstars. The app basically helps couples obtain a collaborative law divorce in any of the 50 states, through affiliations with over 600 legal and financial professionals. After completing five modules, the app helps couples prepare the paperwork.
Ms. Crosby says Wevorce has processed over $40 million in assets, and the typical divorce takes less than 90 days.
Today’s divorce apps, and there are many of them, are really more like lawyer referral services with a few added features, because it will be quite some time before even basic family law procedures move entirely online. For example, only one or two jurisdictions in the country currently allow papers to be served via social media, even though that is probably a better way to guarantee actual notice than publishing a newspaper ad, which is the preferred method. Nevertheless, there are a lot of people who feel that the family law system is either entirely inadequate or at least not well-suited for their particular needs. If that is the case, there are few or no complex legal issues, and there is broad agreement on most factual matters, collaborative law may be an option.
This method is one of the only true litigation alternatives, because if the collaborative process breaks down, the parties must begin the case totally anew with different counsel. Instead of court hearings, collaborative divorces feature meetings between the represented spouses where they work out possibly divisive issues like child custody and property division.
A collaborative law divorce, like the ones that Wevorce facilitates, may settle in as little as three or four meetings once a month, or it may take considerably longer.
Only a handful of spouses opt for collaborative divorce, but nearly all litigants participate in either voluntary or court-ordered mediation. The success rate is about 70 percent for voluntary mediations and 60 percent for court-ordered ones. Mediation is part of the litigation process rather than a litigation alternative, making it ideal for cases that have a few complex legal issues, such as property commingling, that a judge probably needs to resolve. Moreover, if the parties agree on big-picture items but are far apart when it comes to the specifics, collaborative law will likely fail but mediation may succeed, because there is a neutral third party to facilitate settlement.
Private judges, like the one that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have apparently hired, may be an option as well. A retired judge is on hand to make legal decisions and there are almost no time delays. However, the price tag (as much as $1,000 an hour in some cases, and there are attorneys’ fees on top of that) makes this alternative cost prohibitive for most people.
According to Steven Fernandez, an attorney at Fernandez & Karney Divorce Lawyers, “Unlike private judges, mediation usually means significant cost savings, because mediations require less preparation time then trials and successful mediations may shave several months off the overall process.” Because it is private and informal, mediation usually takes the emotional conflict level down a few notches, and that is good if the couple has young children who still need both parents to get along at least reasonably well. Finally, if parties feel they have a stake in the outcome, “there may be more voluntary compliance later, which means less modification and enforcement litigation,” says Mr. Fernandez.
Because of all these benefits, and to reduce their trial dockets to the greatest extent possible, judges nearly always refer contested cases to mediation.
Parties can settle any issues in any marriage dissolution proceedings at any time by mutual agreement. Formal premarital property division agreements cannot cover child support matters, so there must be a separate agreement. The California family code favors spousal agreements, and under the Uniform Premarital and Marital Agreements Act, judges usually enforce them unless they are excessively one-sided or there is evidence of coercion.
Agreed divorces basically combine the best of both mediated and collaborative divorces, because the parties control the outcome and the litigation process is available as a fallback.
Brad Pitt will not be charged with any crime after an investigation into allegations involving his 15-year-old son Maddox, the FBI announced.
The actor had been accused of mistreating Maddox on board a private flight from France to LA.
Brad Pitt’s wife, Angelina Jolie, filed for divorce soon afterwards and is seeking sole custody of their six children.

Social workers investigating the same claim cleared Brad Pitt two weeks ago.
The FBI said: “In response to allegations made following a flight… carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation.
“No charges have been filed in this matter.”
Brad Pitt, 52, is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s six children, three of whom were adopted by Angelina Jolie before the couple began dating in 2004.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt married just two years ago, in a private ceremony at their estate in Provence.
According to court documents, Brad Pitt is seeking joint custody of his six children in his split from Angelina Jolie.
The move comes after Angelina Jolie asked for full physical custody of all the children, who are aged 8 to 15.
Angelina Jolie cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed to end the marriage on September 19.
Reports suggest that Brad Pitt is being investigated over an incident with his eldest son Maddox on a plane.
According to media, a child welfare agency in LA is examining what happened during the incident on a private flight in mid-September.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a temporary agreement so the actor can visit his children while the welfare investigation continues.
California divorce courts generally favor joint custody, but the outcome of the plane row could affect the judge’s decision. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt may also hammer out a deal privately to avoid the matter being aired in public.
Brad Pitt’s custody request was included in his response to Angelina Jolie’s divorce petition. He revealed that they separated on September 15, one day after the alleged plane altercation.
The stars have been together since 2004 but only wed in August 2014, at their children’s urging. They grew close while filming the 2005 Mr. & Mrs. Smith, in which they played a couple in a stagnant relationship.
It was Brad Pitt’s second marriage, after a divorce from Jennifer Aniston, and Angelina Jolie’s third after Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.
Brad Pitt, 52, and Angelina Jolie, 41, have six children together – Maddox, Pax, and Zahara, who are adopted, and biological children Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.
They married privately at their French estate in Provence. Their children served as ring bearers and helped illustrate Angelina Jolie’s white Versace dress with their drawings.

The actor said he did not want his presence at the California Science Centre Imax Theatre in Los Angeles on September 28 to “distract attention” from the film.
In a statement, Brad Pitt said: “Terrence’s Voyage of Time is an incredibly beautiful and unique experiential Imax film for children and families chronicling the birth of time.
“I’m very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I’m currently focused on my family situation and don’t want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see.”
Cate Blanchett has narrated a different feature-length version of the film.
Brad Pitt, 52, previously appeared in Terrence Malick’s 2011 movie Tree of Life.
Angelina Jolie, 41, has filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences and asked for physical custody of their six children.

It appears Angelina Jolie remained unfazed by Vitalii Sediuk’s attack on Brad Pitt last week as she said that her security arrangements will not change following the red-carpet incident.
“People like that are an exception to the rule,” she told the Associated Press.
“Most fans are just wonderful.”
Brad Pitt previously told People magazine Vitalii Sediuk was a “nutter” after attacking him at the premiere of Angelina Jolie’s new movie, Maleficent.

Vitalii Sediuk, 25, was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend counseling.
He pleaded no contest to battery and unlawful activity charges after the incident on Wednesday.
The Ukrainian TV presenter was also ordered to stay away from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Angelina Jolie is in Shanghai to promote Maleficent, in which she plays the villain from Sleeping Beauty.
When asked if the incident had made the couple more wary of fans, Angelina Jolie said: “No, no… we’ve had a wonderful experience over the years and are very grateful for their support and it will not change the way we behave.”
Angelina Jolie told the press conference she was proud of the way Brad Pitt had handled the situation: “He is fine. He was fine that night. He’s a very strong man and he handled the situation perfectly, so he’s good.”
Brad Pitt spoke out about his encounter with red-carpet prankster Vitalii Sediuk.
“I was at the end of the line signing autographs, when out the corner of my eye I saw someone stage-diving over the barrier at me,” Brad Pitt explained to People magazine.
Vitalii Sediuk accosted Brad Pitt at the world premiere of Maleficent in Hollywood
“I took a step back; this guy had latched onto my lapels. I looked down and the nutter was trying to bury his face in my c**ch, so I cracked him twice in the back of the head – not too hard – but enough to get his attention, because he did let go. I think he was then just grabbing for a hand hold because the guys were on him, and he reached up and caught my glasses.”
Vitalii Sediuk, 25, was wrestled away by security and quickly arrested. He spent two days in jail before pleading no contest to battery and unlawful activity at an entertainment event and received three years probation and one year of psychiatric counseling.
“I’m a normal guy,” he told The Associated Press, insisting that he merely wanted to hug Brad Pitt, not his swimsuit area, since children were present on the red carpet. “I’m not crazy.”
Brad Pitt clearly has his doubts: “If this guy keeps it up he’s going to spoil it for the fans who have waited up all night for an autograph or a selfie, because it will make people more wary to approach a crowd. And he should know, if he tries to look up a woman’s dress again, he’s going to get stomped.”
Italian film distributor BiM Distribuzione has apologized after releasing unauthorized posters which promoted white actors over black actors in Twelve Years A Slave.
Unofficial posters for the film gave prominence to white stars Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt over the film’s leading man, Chiwetel Ejiofor.
BiM Distribuzione apologized for the “inappropriate” promotional material.
“We are very proud of the film and regret any distraction this incident may have caused,” a statement said.
“We apologize for creating and releasing unauthorized posters for 12 Years A Slave in Italy featuring Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender in a manner inconsistent with approved advertising materials,” said BiM on Friday.
BiM Distribuzione has apologized after releasing unauthorized posters which promoted white actors over black actors in Twelve Years A Slave
“All inappropriate materials have now been withdrawn.”
12 Years A Slave tells the true story of New Yorker Solomon Northup who was kidnapped and sold into the slave trade in 1841.
Protagonist Solomon Northup is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, earning him a Golden Globe nomination earlier this month.
Michael Fassbender, who has attracted strong notices for his supporting role, plays a sadistic plantation owner, while Brad Pitt – who is a producer on the film – has a minor role as a laborer.
The posters, which appeared across Italy earlier this week, prompted a widespread criticism on social media, for their focus on Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt.
Responding to criticism, sales agent Lionsgate’s Summit said, earlier in the week, that the posters in Italy were not authorized or approved by the producers of the film.
A statement said the company was “investigating and taking immediate action to stop the distribution of any unauthorized posters and to have those posters currently in the marketplace recalled”.
Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and their kids made a pre-Christmas Target run in Robina, a suburb of Queensland, Australia, over the weekend.
“Team at our Target Robina store are thrilled that Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and their children shopped at Target today,” an elated Stuart Machin tweeted on Sunday, according to the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“They made sure no one was around to blow their cover,” a source told the Australian news outlet.
“The store manager waited until everyone had gone home and opened it up secretly for them at 7.30 pm on Sunday. She said they shopped for around an hour and a half to buy presents for their children and friends.”
Angelina Jolie, 37, has been on Australia’s Gold Coast over the past few months filming her second directorial venture, Unbroken.
According to new reports, Angelina Jolie is unable to cope with Brad Pitt’s soap aversion.
The National Enquirer was claiming this week that there’s a “big stink” coming off an organically minded Brad Pitt, who’s allegedly using a “homemade concoction of lemons, water and apple cider vinegar instead of soap.”
Brad Pitt is allegedly using a homemade concoction of lemons, water and apple cider vinegar instead of soap
“Brad says he’s read up on the toxins of soap – especially the antibacterial ones – and feels that using them and antiperspirants is not only bad for the planet, but it also speeds up the aging process in humans,” alleges a source.
“But Angie was revolted, and their kids even started calling him <<Stinky Daddy>>. Angie agreed to humor him [about his soap aversion] only as long as they weren’t on the same continent.”
Brad Pitt, 49, is currently shooting Fury in the UK, while Angelina Jolie, 38, is in Australia working on Unbroken.
Angelina Jolie is reportedly revealing the real truth about her life, from early days as a hard-partying rebellious teen to her current involvement in world peace, in a new tell-all book.
According to OK magazine, Angelina Jolie is finally ready to tell the real story of her life and now that she has found inner peace she feels like she actually can be open about her trysts, drug use, without censoring herself.
Angelina Jolie has taken a lot of heat for her relationship with Brad Pitt and has been blamed for years for his broken marriage to Jennifer Aniston
Angelina Jolie, 38, has taken a lot of heat for her relationship with Brad Pitt, 49, and has been blamed for years for his broken marriage to Jennifer Aniston, 44.
Angelina Jolie insists that she never would have gone there if she didn’t believe Brad Pitt when he told her that his marriage to Jennifer Aniston was completely over and just a legality at that point in time.
“This will be the ultimate showbiz autobiography that publishers estimate to be worth $50 million. She’s going to reveal the people she partied with, all the players, scumbags and supposedly straight actresses she made out with. She wants to rattle the skeletons in her closet before starting the next phase in her life as Mrs. Pitt!” the OK magazine reports.
Angelina Jolie opted to miss her aunt’s funeral so she could jet to the UK to support Brad Pitt at the premiere of his new movie World War Z, making her first appearance on the red carpet since revealing double mastectomy.
Angelina Jolie, 37, kept to her promise and was one of the big names who walked the special black carpet at the event.
The actress opted to co-ordinate with her man as they both arrived to rapturous claps and screams, both wearing matching black.
Angelina Jolie wore a floorlength Yves St Laurent dress, while Brad Pitt looked dapper in a suit with a casual T-shirt underneath.
Just a few days ago it was revealed Angelina Jolie had chosen to miss her aunt’s funeral as it clashed with the premiere.
Angelina Jolie – who recently revealed she underwent a double mastectomy after she was identified as carrying the BRCA1 cancer gene – lost her aunt Debbie Martin, 61, last week following a battle with breast cancer. The actress said she cannot make the funeral in San Diego on Sunday June 2 because she will be in London.
Debbie Martin’s husband Ron told E! News ahead of the premiere: “We are making the final arrangements for the funeral as we speak. But we expect it to be this Sunday at noon at El Camino Memorial in Sorrento Valley near our home.
“Angelina will be in London on Sunday so she won’t be able to attend but she has been in touch with us and with various other members of the family, which has obviously been lovely and has meant a lot to us.”
And it seems Angelina Jolie is now fighting fit after making the difficult decision to undergo the operation.
Angelina Jolie makes her first appearance on the red carpet since revealing double mastectomy at Brad Pitt’s London premiere of World War Z
Angelina Jolie, who oozed confidence at the bash, said she was “feeling great” as she walked the black carpet with Brad Pitt.
“I’m here for Brad. I’m so proud of him,” she said.
The actress said she was “proud” of the response to her article about cancer preventative surgery.
“If it did some good then I’m pleased,” Angelina Jolie said as she walked into the Empire cinema wearing a floor length Yves. St Laurent black silk gown.
The actress spent twenty minutes signing autographs. She joked: “I’m a director,” as she took cameras from fans and took their photographs and video shots.
One fan handed her a fluffy teddy and later she gave it to Sophie Martinez, aged 4, who promptly burst into tears.
“It’s a nice teddy,” Angelina Jolie told her soothingly.
Sophie Martinez’s parents Douglas and Tatiana, Brazilian students living in Putney, said they were so touched by Angelina Jolie’s gesture towards their daughter.
Jessica Chastain, however, skipped the carpet to attend the film. She and Brad Pitt were in The Tree of Life together.
Brad Pitt told BBC News as he spoke ahead of the screening: “I think it’s pretty much the most intense film you’re going to see all summer.”
The night before, on Saturday, Brad Pitt made an impromptu visit to the first preview screening of World War Z in one of the Empire’s smaller screening auditoriums.
He told the audience: “This has been a long time coming.”
Brad Pitt was clearly referring to the film’s problematic production with costs rumored to be in the two hundred million dollar plus range.
He added: “I’m willing to bet that this is the most intense film you’ve seen all summer.”
Brad Pitt has revealed he felt he was wasting his life on drugs while he was married to Jennifer Aniston.
In yet another blow to his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt makes it clear that before he met Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004, his life had little meaning.
Brad Pitt, 49, who has previously admitted to ma*****na use, was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston for seven years until 2005.
In an interview with the new issue of Esquiremagazine, brad Pitt says: “For a long time I thought I did too much damage – drug damage. I was a bit of a drifter. A guy who felt he grew up in something of a vacuum and wanted to see things, wanted to be inspired. I followed that other thing. I spent years f***ing off.
“But then I got burnt out and felt that I was wasting my opportunity. It was a conscious change. This was about a decade ago. It was an epiphany.”
Brad Pitt also spoke about his decision to shrink his circle of friends he could spend as much time as possible with Angelina Jolie and their six children – Maddox, 11, Pax, 9, Zahara, 8, Shiloh, 6, and 4-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – and he has never been happier.
The actor admitted: “I have very few friends. I have a handful of close friends and I have my family and I haven’t known life to be any happier.
“I’m making things. I just haven’t known life to be any happier.”
Brad Pitt fully supported Angelina Jolie’s decision to have a double mastectomy in February after learning she had an 87% chance of developing breast cancer because she carries the BRCA1 gene mutation.
Angelina Jolie, 37, went ahead with the operation so she can be around for her kids and Brad Pitt insists they can be no better motivation as the couple love the ‘chaos’ of their big household and the bond they all share.
Brad Pitt has revealed he felt he was wasting his life on drugs while he was married to Jennifer Aniston
He explained: “I always thought that if I wanted to do a family, I wanted to do it big. I wanted there to be chaos in the house … there’s constant chatter in our house, whether it’s giggling or screaming or crying or banging.
“I love it. I love it. I love it. I hate it when they’re gone. I hate it. Maybe it’s nice to be in a hotel room for a day – <<Oh, nice, I can finally read a paper>>. But then, by the next day, I miss that cacophony, all that life.”
Brad Pitt graces the cover of the publication, and can be seen looking as hunky as ever in a black top and wrinkled jeans, with aviator sunglasses covering his face.
His trademark long golden hair flops around his shoulder as he casually grips a camera in one hand.
Brad Pitt praised Angelina Jolie as “heroic” after she published a piece in the New York Times revealing she had undergone the double mastectomy on Tuesday.
“We set up our own little post-op recovery that became pretty fun. You make an adventure out of it,” Brad Pitt later told USA Today.
“I’m quite emotional about it, of course,” the actor said.
“She could have stayed absolutely private about it and I don’t think anyone would have been none the wiser with such good results.
“But it was really important to her to share the story and that others would understand it doesn’t have to be a scary thing. In fact, it can be an
empowering thing, and something that makes you stronger and us stronger.”
Jane Pitt has paid tribute to her soon to be daughter-in-law Angelina Jolie for her brave decision of having a preventive double mastectomy, even though there have long been rumors that relations between herself and Angelina are strained.
In a touching statement, Jane Pitt said she is “proud” of Angelina Jolie, 37, for having the surgery in order to ensure she is alive to watch her children grow up.

“We’re so very proud of Angie, this means so much to out family especially our grandchildren,” said Brad Pitt’s mother in a statement to People magazine.
“We love her dearly.”
Between early February and late April Angelina Jolie completed three months of surgical procedures to remove both breasts after being advised she was at a high risk of developing breast cancer.
Having watched her mother die at the age of 56 from ovarian cancer, ten years after developing the disease, Angelina Jolie was determined to ensure she had the best chance of avoiding the same fate.
Her brother James Haven also made a statement paying tribute to Angelina Jolie.
“My sister like our mother always put her children first,” he said.
Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy after learning she had an 87% chance of contracting breast cancer, but despite the stress put on her own body, her main concern was maintaining a sense of normality for her and fiancé Brad Pitt’s six children.
A source has revealed that Angelina Jolie, 37, did everything within her power to ensure the couple’s children, Maddox, 11, Pax, 9, Zahara, 8, Shiloh, 6, and 4-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, led normal lives as their mother underwent three months of secret operations.
The source told People.com: “Things have appeared normal. The kids have kept their schedules as usual. They have been in school during the day and have attended after-school activities like they always do.”
Angelina Jolie made the brave decision to have the procedure after doctors told her she was a carrier of the BRCA1 cancer gene.
The news was made all the more personal by the fact that Angelina Jolie lost her mother Marcheline Bertrand to ovarian cancer when she was just 56.
Revealing her decision to have the surgery in the New York Times, Angelina Jolie said it was the support of her six children and fiancé Brad Pitt which got her through the three months of secret procedures.
Angelina Jolie kept her family life as normal as possible for the sake of her children as she underwent a double mastectomy
In the editorial piece in the New York Times entitled My Medical Choice, Angelina Jolie wrote: “I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition. Brad was at the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where I was treated, for every minute of the surgeries.
“We managed to find moments to laugh together. We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and that it would bring us closer. And it has.”
Brad Pitt, 49, later released his own statement praising his “heroic Angie” following her difficult decision.
In a statement to London’s Evening Standard, Brad Pitt said: “Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic. I thank our medical team for their care and focus.
“All I want for is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.”
Angelina Jolie also revealed she is proud of her children for being so brave during her operations, which began on February 16th with the initial removal, before she had the reconstruction operation on April 20th.
The brave actress writes: “It is reassuring that they see nothing that makes them uncomfortable. They can see my small scars and that’s it. Everything else is just Mommy, the same as she always was. And they know that I love them and will do anything to be with them as long as I can.”
Following the operations, Angelina Jolie’s risk of contracting breast cancer has now dropped to under 5%.
After recently enlisted Brad Pitt as the first ever male face of Chanel to give the brand a sexy revamp, now the iconic perfume house takes things even further by unveiling a rare collectible fragrance.
Chanel has announced that the bottle of perfume will be in “its rarest, most collectible form”.
Named the LesGrands Extraits, the edition trumps the previous $2,150, 7.5-ounce version as the most expensive fragrance offered by them.
The formula is the exact same as the sweet smelling stuff you can snap up at duty free for around $100, but the bottle is designed to be something quite special.
Chanel launches its most expensive perfume at $3,800 and most of that goes on the bottle
Crafted in a mould with the help of a specialized glassmaker and then placed in a “hand-assembled, artisan-crafted case”, it aims to be something of a collectible.
It was revealed back in May that Brad Pitt was going to front Chanel’s new campaign as part of a megabucks deal and Andrea d’Avack, a spokesman for Chanel, said: “To keep a legend fresh, you always have to change its point of view. It is the first time we’ve had a man speaking about a women’s fragrance.
“We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume. No.5 is our leading fragrance, and we are willing to make the investment to keep it on that level.”
Brad Pitt follows in the footsteps of actresses including Marilyn Monroe, Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tautou and Catherine Deneuve.
