Katy Perry and Russell Brand marriage was called into question when they decided to spend Christmas 7,000 miles apart.
According to some reports, it has been suggested the couple’s separation over the festive period was because of a huge argument.
Us Weekly reports that a source close to the couple said: “They had a massive fight. She was like, <<F*** you. I’m going to do my own thing.>>”
The source also said that Russell Brand replied: “Fine, f*** you too.”
“They haven’t split up just yet, but things are not good. The fighting is getting worse.”
Katy Perry and Russell Brand marriage was called into question when they decided to spend Christmas 7,000 miles apart
Katy Perry, 27, was seen lapping up the fine weather in Hawaii with a group of friends while comedian Russell Brand was seen in a pub in Cornwall, England.
The couple were said to have planned Christmas together with reports Katy Perry was going to jet her family in a private plane over to the UK to celebrate together.
But while they are said to have had a big row, which saw then spend Christmas apart, there is little explanation of the nature of the “disagreement”.
Katy Perry and Russell Brand, who married in October last year after a whirlwind romance, have gone out of their way lately to quash speculation that their marriage is on shaky ground.
That good work however may be undone by the fact Katy Perry wasn’t wearing her wedding ring as she frolicked in the sea with friends.
Katy Perry has previously used Twitter to dismiss marriage rumors. She tweeted: “Just cause we don’t flaunt our relationship doesn’t mean there’s something wrong w/it. Privacy is our luxury.”
Russell Brand reportedly spent his Christmas in a Cornwall pub before joining his friend David Baddiel’s charity swim.
In November, Russell Brand’s mother Barbara had tweeted she was looking forward to spending the festive season with her son and daughter-in-law.
Barbara Brand wrote on Twitter: “Spoke to Russell and Katy, they are so happy, it’s lovely. We will all be together for Christmas.”
Apparently, Russell Brand had also arranged for his mother and father in law, Keith and Mary Hudson, to fly into the UK on December 18th so they could all spend the holidays together.
Both The Sun and People magazine reported that Russell Brand and Katy Perry have rented properties in the respective beauty spots for the festivities.
And while People quotes a source that places Russell Brand in Kauai, it points out that he was never pictured on the beach with his wife.
The British actor was also spotted at Winter Wonderland in London’s Hyde Park last Tuesday without his wife.
Russell Brand addressed the recent speculation that his one-year marriage has hit a rough patch on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this month.
When told about the frenzied split speculation, Russell Brand jokingly replied: “What?! She should have told me!”
And added: “I’ve treated the whole internet now as a wicked little liar. I am really happily married.
“Being famous is like a little bit of you is taken away and goes off and lives on its own and does what it wants.
“I wish it would do more interesting things.
“I don’t know what is doing, but I’m married to Katy.
“Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive.”
When asked about starting a family, Russell Brand said he would like to have children with Katy Perry.
“I would like one. I love those little babies in the beginning,” he said.
Until then, the couple are content with being godparents to twin boys.
“I’m just observing them like I’m a scientist,” Russell Brand said of his godchildren.
“So I can learn from them. Me and Katy are their godparents, which means we’re responsible for their spiritual growth. Should be interesting…”
As his estranged wife filed for divorce just last month, Ashton Kutcher did not celebrate the holidays with Demi Moore, but he did spend the festive period with her lookalike Lorene Scafaria.
Ashton Kutcher enjoyed Christmas in Italy with 33-year-old screenwriter Lorene Scafaria, who looks remarkably like Demi Moore.
The actor posted a snap of himself and Lorene Scafaria to his Twitter page.
He posted the photo, which also included friend Matthew Mazzant with the caption: “Roman holiday with homies. @mazzant @LoreneScafaria Have an amazing new year!!!”
While it appears the group are just friends there have been reports that Ashton Kutcher has been romantically involved with Lorene Scafaria since February, according to Us Weekly.
They met while Ashton Kutcher tried out for a film she wrote and a source has told the magazine: “Ashton started seeing her while each was in a relationship.”
Ashton Kutcher, 33, and Lorene Scafaria were seen together on Christmas Eve taking a trip to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and are said to have enjoyed a romantic dinner for two later that evening.
Ashton Kutcher posted a snap of himself, Lorene Scafaria and his friend Matthew Mazzant to his Twitter page
Alex Thorpe told Us Weekly: “They shared spaghetti and he paid.”
While Demi Moore filed for divorce from Ashton Kutcher last month, Lorene Scafaria recently split from The OC actor Adam Brody.
Shortly before his Italian jaunt, Ashton Kutcher was seen enjoying a night out in Berlin, where he spent a night with three women.
He was in Berlin for work – he is said to be researching a new tech platform – but clearly found time to mix business with pleasure.
Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher’s relationship broke down after claims emerged that the actor had cheated on his wife with 22-year-old Sara Leal, on the weekend of their 6th wedding anniversary.
On November 17, Demi Moore, 49, announced that she was filing for divorce from Ashton Kutcher after six years of marriage.
Demi Moore has recently treated herself to three Chihuahua puppies in order to take her mind off of her divorce from Ashton Kutcher.
Demi Moore’s daughter Rumer Willis tweeted a snap of one of the puppies just before Christmas and the canines have been part of the family for a couple of weeks.
The Russian Soyuz rocket system has been pressed back into service, five days after a failed launch.
The vehicle successfully put six spacecraft in orbit for US satellite phone and data company, Globalstar.
The Soyuz lifted away from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 17:09 GMT, ejecting the last of the six Globalstar platforms an hour and 40 minutes later.
Last Friday, a Soyuz malfunctioned soon after launching from the Plesetsk spaceport in northern Russia.
Parts were reported to have crashed back down into the Novosibirsk region of central Siberia.
Last week’s Soyuz was a type 2.1b, compared with the 2.1a version used for the Globalstar mission.
The two variants share many design features but use different engines in their third segment, or stage – the part of the Soyuz said to have been responsible for the failure five days ago.
The Russian Soyuz rocket system has been pressed back into service, five days after a failed launch
Wednesday’s successful outing will come as a huge relief for Globalstar.
The company is the first of the major sat-phone concerns to start upgrading its systems. The six latest satellites follow 12 others launched in July this year and October last year.
The upgrade is a pressing concern for the company because its existing constellation is failing.
Rolled out in the late 1990s, many of these original satellites have suffered suspected radiation damage to their S-band transmitter equipment, which has limited their ability to handle two-way communications.
Globalstar is pinning its future on its second-generation constellation. It plans to put in orbit at least another six satellites to boost service reach and quality.
Following Wednesday’s flight, Tony Navarra, Globalstar’s president of global operations, was quick to thank the Soyuz team and Arianespace, the French company that markets commercial Soyuz launches through its Starsem subsidiary.
“These satellites were flawlessly placed exactly where we needed them so that our ground stations could find them on the very first pass,” he said.
“It’s amazing that we can find six satellites within 30 minutes of them being placed into space.”
Investigations continue into the cause of last Friday’s launch malfunction, which resulted in the loss of a Russian Meridian telecommunications satellite.
It was the latest in a recent run of flight failures for the national rocket industry.
In August, a Soyuz failure on an unmanned mission to resupply the space station led to a six-week suspension of flights.
On 18 August, the week before the loss of the space station mission, a Proton rocket failed to put a communications satellite in its proper orbit.
Back on 1 February, a Rokot launcher also underperformed with a similar outcome.
And on 5 December last year, a Proton carrying three navigation spacecraft fell into the Pacific Ocean. This particular failure is widely believed to have contributed to the decision of the Russian government to replace the then space agency chief, Anatoly Perminov.
Vladimir Popovkin took over as the head of Roscosmos in April.
The rocket failures come on top of the loss of Phobos-Grunt, Russia’s most ambitious planetary mission in decades. It became stuck in Earth orbit after its launch in November and will probably fall back to Earth next month.
Sinead O’Connor announced on Boxing Day that her fourth marriage to youth counselor Barry Herridge had ended after just 16 days.
Sinead O’Connor, 45, revealed on her website that the marriage was in trouble just three hours after the Las Vegas ceremony, when people close to Barry Herridge, 38, tried to “kybosh” it.
Despite the brevity of the union, it could take years for the marriage to be legally dissolved, with Irish law requiring a four-year separation.
Sinéad O’Connor posted a statement on her personal website stating that she had decided to end the marriage on Christmas Eve after just seven days of domesticity.
The Irish singer wrote: “There was intense pressure placed upon him by certain people in his life, not to be involved with me. These were people who had never met me but had formed opinions of me based on what they read about <<Sinéad O’Connor>> in the media, etc.”
Sinead O’Connor announced on Boxing Day that her fourth marriage to youth counselor Barry Herridge had ended after just 16 days
Sinead O’Connor admitted that her husband had also been very upset by a “wild ride” they took to try and buy mar**uana on their wedding night, as she doesn’t drink alcohol.
“My husband was enormously wounded and very badly affected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage,” the singer said.
Sinead O’Connor’s and Barry Herridge flew out to Las Vegas on her 45th birthday and married that day.
The Little White Wedding chapel confirmed that the marriage certificate the couple signed was a legally binding contract.
According to a staff member, both Sinead O’Connor and Barry Herridge were made aware of the implications of the ceremony before they tied the knot. And a spokeswoman from the Las Vegas church confirmed that the couple would have to take legal action to dissolve the wedding.
The spokeswoman said: “All of our ceremonies are legally binding. Occasionally, we do get couples who renew their vows. But they are the only two types of service that we do. We can’t comment on any individual weddings but all the processes are legally binding. They are made aware of that when they decide to marry with us.”
Marianna Fritz, a consultant with Irish Divorce Services, said the couple would be forced to wait at least four years before applying to terminate the marital contract.
“It doesn’t matter whether you get married in Las Vegas, Australia or Ireland – the procedure is the same,” said Marianna Fritz.
“First, they must be separated for four years and only then can they apply to have the marriage dissolved and, at that point, it is relatively straightforward.”
Alternatively, Sinead O’Connor and Barry Herridge could apply to have the marriage annulled – that is, to have it declared legally void, as if it had never happened. But according to Marianna Fritz this is an extremely difficult and costly procedure.
“They are entitled to apply, but with an annulment, you must use solicitors which is an extremely costly avenue. It is also very difficult, as there are only three, maybe four conditions that a court will accept. If either party is intoxicated or under the influence of any substances. Or if they can prove that they aren’t in a sane state of mind. Or if one of the parties is homosexual.
“Basically, once the couple have consummated the marriage it is not easy to have it annulled,” she said.
An online privacy group says that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) makes fake Twitter and Facebook profiles for the specific purpose of scanning the networks for “sensitive” words – and tracking people who use them.
According to the privacy group, simply using a word or phrase from the DHS’s “watch” list could mean that spies from the government read your posts, investigate your account, and attempt to identify you from it.
The words which attract attention range from ones seemingly related to diseases or bioweapons such as “human to animal” and “outbreak” to other, more obscure words such as “drill” and “strain”.
The DHS also watches for words such as “illegal immigrant”.
The DHS outlined plans to scans blogs, Twitter and Facebook for words such as “illegal immigrant”, “outbreak”, “drill”, “strain”, “virus”, “recovery”, “deaths”, “collapse”, “human to animal” and “trojan”, according to an “impact assessment” document filed by the agency.
When its search tools net an account using the phrases, they record personal information.
It’s still not clear how this information is used – and who the DHS shares it with.
The online privacy group, the Electronic Privacy Information Centre has requested information on the DHS’s scans, which it says the agency announced in February.
The privacy group has requested information on the DHS, and contractors it claims are working with the agency to scan social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The group also says that the government has used scans of social media before to analyze specific events – such as the 2010 BP oil spill – but this general “watching” of social media using fake profiles is new.
“The initiatives were designed to gather information from <<online forums, blogs, public websites, and message boards>>, to store and analyze the information gathered, and then to <<disseminate relevant and appropriate de-identified information to federal, state, local, and foreign governments and private sector partners>>,” the group said in a court filing.
The group claims that a request under the Freedom of Information Act to access the documentation has gone unanswered.
Giuliana Rancic has decided to return to work just two weeks after undergoing a double mastectomy.
Giuliana Rancic, 37, looked radiant as she got back to her hosting duties on E! News last evening.
Before presenting the entertainment news, including stories about Matthew McConaughey engagement to Camilla Alves and Katy Perry and Russell Brand being separated on Christmas Day, Giuliana Rancic expressed her thanks to her many supportive fans.
“It is so good to be back two weeks after my surgery,” Giuliana Rancic said.
“Thank you so much for your love, support and prayers. It means the world to me. Thank you so much.”
Giuliana Rancic has decided to return to work just two weeks after undergoing a double mastectomy
Ahead of her appearance, Giuliana Rancic tweeted her excitement about getting back in front of the camera.
“Back at work today since surgery,” the TV host wrote on the social networking site.
“Excited to be on set of @ENews. I’ve missed my 2nd family (co-workers and you guys!!!) #thankful.”
“Even though I moved a tad slower than usual today, everyone welcomed me back with open arms and it was a wonderful homecoming,” Giuliana Rancic added on the E! website.
Giuliana Rancic revealed that it was touch and go as to whether she would be well enough to go back to work today.
“It feels great to be back at work,” she said.
“I wasn’t sure whether I was going to return to E! News this week or after the new year. The last thing I wanted to do was rush my recovery.
“Thankfully, I’ve been feeling better every single day since surgery and this weekend my doctors gave me the green light to get back to work.”
After the program, Giuliana Rancic also appeared on a special edition of Fashion Police.
Joining Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne and George Kotsiopoulos on the couch to critiques this year’s fashion hits and misses, she looked great in a black lace shirt, black miniskirt and matching over-the-knee boots.
Earlier this month, Giuliana Rancic told People magazine that she would also be working on New Year’s Eve in Times Square.
Meanwhile, she recently sent out a heartfelt thank you to her husband Bill Rancic on Twitter.
“Dedicating this #FF to @BillRancic for taking such wonderful care of me this past week!!! Love you baby:)” Giuliana Rancic wrote in the endearing post.
She ended the touching sentiment with the hashtag “#HotMaleNurse”.
Bill Rancic, 40, hasn’t left his wife’s side since she first announced that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in mid-October.
As she underwent a lumpectomy, followed by radiation, Bill Rancic was at Giuliana’s hospital bedside and continued to take care of her when she returned home.
The American entrepreneur has also been nursing his wife back to health after she underwent her recent successful double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
Giuliana Rancic was released from hospital to recover at home a few days after the procedure.
“I’m feeling good and I’m happy to be back home,” she told E! News at the time.
“It’s been tough, but I’m trying to stay strong and manage the pain.
“I have a new found respect for women who have been through breast cancer and this surgery.”
Giuliana Rancic decided to undergo the four-hour procedure, after learning that she still had breast cancer following her treatment in October.
Before the surgery, Giuliana Rancic admitted that while she was putting on a brave face, she was fearful.
“[I’m scared] just of the unknown,” the TV star told Us Weekly.
“I’ve never been through anything like this. I’m scared of waking up and the pain.
“I do hear it’s a painful recovery, so I worry about that.”
Explaining her choice to undergo the surgery before Christmas, Giuliana Rancic said: “It’s a great time to do it. I’ll be recovering during the holidays.
“It’s kind of quiet, and my family – and of course [my husband] Bill will be with me, so it’s great.”
Giuliana Rancic said her husband has been assuring her every step of the way, and told her he doesn’t care what her breasts look like following the surgery.
“He looked at me and said: <<I want you to know that I could not care less about the physical aspect of this. I need you here to be my wife, and I need you here to be the mother of my children one day>>.”
In an interview with Wendy Williams, Giuliana Rancic said it was important that the couple remain lighthearted about the mastectomy.
“They might come out looking even hotter,” she laughed.
“You gotta have fun with this. We find the humor in everything. Bill helped pick ’em out. I’m like, Bill, that big? Really?”
Bill Rancic said this month that with less then 1% chance of the disease returning following the operation, they “wanted to bring in 2012 [and] not look back”.
“There’s something really symbolic about starting out the new year like this,” Bill Rancic said.
“I always tell Giuliana, once the clock strikes midnight, we’re taking the rear view mirror off the car and we’re not looking back because we’re going to be done.
“No looking over her shoulder, no worries. We can start living life.”
Particles from a recent solar storm will slam today into Earth and produce amazing Northern Lights, or auroras. On the downside, experts expect radio blackouts for a few days, caused by the radiation from the flare – or coronal mass ejection (CME) – causing magnetic storms.
The flare is part of a larger increase in activity in the Sun, which runs in 11-year cycles. It is expected to peak around 2013.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center wrote: “Category G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storms are expected 28 and 29 December due to multiple coronal mass ejection arrivals. R1 (Minor) radio blackouts are expected until 31 December.”
A coronal mass ejection (CME) contains billions of tons of gases bursting with X-rays and ultraviolet radiation that are flung into space at around 5 million mph.
They are mind-bogglingly hot – around 100,000,000 C.
The Earth is occasionally hosed by these ejections, leading to amazing shimmering light shows.
They are caused by the ionized solar particles becoming imprisoned by Earth’s magnetic field, exciting the gases in the atmosphere and emitting bursts of energy in the form of light.
A coronal mass ejection (CME) contains billions of tons of gases bursting with X-rays and ultraviolet radiation that are flung into space at around 5 million mph
However, these particles can also cause magnetic storms, which in extreme cases have been known to disrupt satellites and electricity grids.
In 1989, a CME was held responsible for leaving six million people in Quebec, Canada, without power.
Last month one of the largest storms our star can produce was detected.
Known as an X1.9 flare, it was one of the biggest seen in years.
The flare was so powerful that it disrupted communications systems on earth around 45 minutes later.
Another gigantic flare occurred in August, but because it took place on the side of the Sun not facing Earth, there was no disruption to communications or power.
A little bit of cosmetic dentistry is nothing new among the showbiz stars. The pearlescent, day-glo delights of the average Hollywood smile have been with us for a while.
Yet when did it become de rigueur, even covetable, for celebrity teeth to become so downright huge? So white? Not to mention so uniform and unnatural-looking? We are now in the age of the molar ice cap, where great curves of snow-white plastic teeth are the order of the day.
This year, teeth have become over-bleached, over-laminated, oversized and have taken root over here.
The slavish pursuit of a kind of highly unnatural dental flawlessness is what everyone — from reality wannabe to WAG to movie star — seems to want. That might be a worthwhile dental aim — if the end results weren’t quite so extreme and freakish.
Any charming or natural little dental imperfections are bulldozed out, replaced by a barrage of crowns, caps, veneers — where they are literally laminated with porcelain or plastic covers — bleaches and holy molar bling.
“I’ll tell you what has happened. They asked for a Hollywood smile — but they got a Goodwood smile instead,” says dentist Harry Shiers, suggesting most of this crowd end up looking more like winners in the 3.15 handicap than elegant stars. And he should know.
Harry Shiers has run an eponymous Central London dental clinic for 15 years, where he specializes in aesthetic implant and reconstructive dentistry. Over time, his work has involved reconstructive dental surgery for those suffering from mouth cancer or who have, for example, been in car accidents. With his more day-to-day patients he performs the kind of cosmetic procedures that have indeed become popular with celebrities — but with one big difference.
“Of course, it is good to improve teeth and make them look better — but in a natural, not an unnatural way,” says Harry Shiers.
“My thing is to try to do cosmetic work that does not jump out at you.”
Harry Shiers evaluated Tom Cruise teeth improvement
Many experts like him despair of a new generation of opportunistic dentists who set up flashy websites promising white-out Hollywood smiles to clients — even if the laminating procedure that produces them might not be advisable.
Yet so many people get swallowed up in celebrity culture — whether they are celebrities or not — and convince themselves that they need a particular look, that anyone with the most basic dental training can now find clients willing to pay for a royal flush of veneers.
The problem, some experts believe, is that as cosmetic dentistry becomes more extreme and more people want it done, it will lead to dental problems in the future.
Harry Shiers evaluation on Nicholas Cage teeth changes
For teeth are not designed for dentistry, intensive or otherwise. They are designed so that we can eat. Sometimes, with disease, dentists can do clever things. And sometimes dentists can do things minimally that are quite clever.
However, trying to impose a totally new appearance to teeth without harming them in some way is impossible. If you want to make them bigger or whiter or brighter you have to file some of the tooth away in order to accommodate the veneer you are sticking on.
As Harry Shiers says: “Underneath the hard stuff is living tissue. You can only drill a tooth so many times before you compromise its vitality. Eventually, they start breaking or cracking. You are asking them to do something they are not meant to do. And if you are being invasive, there might well be a price to pay later.”
Marc Jacobs, the famed fashion designer, revealed the dramatic transformation he had made to his body as lost weight and toned up by eating only vegan food and training two hours a day, seven days a week.
Yesterday Marc Jacobs, 48, showed that he’s still keeping in great shape by flaunting his incredibly ripped beach body as he walked along the St. Barts beach with his equally muscular ex-fiance Lorenzo Martone.
Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone each wore tiny swimming shorts, with Marc in a navy pair and Martone in a nautical red, white and blue stripe brief.
They also showed off their tattoos, including Marc Jacobs’ infamous playful M&M and Spongebob Squarepants inkings and Lorenzo Martone’s classic scripture.
After their stroll, the former couple who have appeared to have perhaps rekindled their love, retired to some sun lounges on the sand.
They draped them with matching monogrammed Louis Vuitton towels, neon with one of the label’s signature Stephen Sprouse graffiti design.
Marc Jacobs, 48, showed that he's still keeping in great shape by flaunting his incredibly ripped beach body as he walked along the St. Barts beach with his equally muscular ex-fiance Lorenzo Martone
Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone got a nice surprise when super-stylist Rachel Zoe dropped by to say hello with her gorgeous tot Skylar.
Lorenzo Martone particularly went gaga over the 8-month-old blue-eyed baby boy, who looked cute in a white all in one.
Rachel Zoe, 40,as always looked chic in brown and white printed maxi-dress which she paired with a black wide-brimmed hat.
She later soaked up some sun with the famous designer by laying down next to Marc on another lounge.
Later Marc Jacobs covered up in a pair of cool board-shorts, presumably from his own line, and a black singlet.
Lorenzo Martone playfully held up his arms as the pair indulged in some silly dance moves.
The pair’s appearance on the French island might be a sign that they are getting back together after splitting last year.
The engaged couple called it quits with Lorenzo Martone announcing the news via Twitter in July 2010.
“thanks for t notes. yes, I saw t press today,” Lorenzo Martone wrote.
“We are not together, haven’t been in 2 months. And we will not comment on it. Sorry. We r fine.”
Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone got engaged at the beginning of March 2009.
Marc Jacobs attributed his incredible body transformation to an organic diet and grueling fitness regime.
In 2007, Marc Jacobs told NY Daily News: “I’m eating a totally organic diet, which has no flour, no sugar, no dairy and no caffeine, and I lost weight because of that diet and because of a two-hour exercise regimen seven days a week.”
The designer told the publication that he was aware that people would jump to conclusions about how he lost weight, especially in the fashion world.
“You’re going to get a bunch of blogs saying: <<He must be on meth in order to be that skinny compared to 10 months ago>>.”
North Korea has started the two-day funeral services for late leader Kim Jong-Il with a huge procession in the capital, Pyongyang.
Television footages showed tens of thousands of soldiers with their heads bowed as a giant portrait of Kim Jong-Il was carried slowly through the streets.
Kim Jong-Il’ successor and third son, Kim Jong-Un, walked beside the hearse, images from state television showed.
Kim Jong-Il died of a heart attack on 17 December, aged 69, state media said.
He has been lying in state for the past 10 days.
No schedule was released ahead of the commemorations and no foreign delegations are attending.
Observers said the ceremonies echoed the displays of pomp and military might that marked the death of Kim Jong-Il’s father, Kim Il-Sung, in 1994.
Kim Jong-Un – who is thought to be in his late 20’s and who has little political experience – was shown weeping beside the hearse as it drove through the snowy capital.
He was accompanied by his uncle, Chang Song-Taek, who is expected to be a key player as the younger Kim consolidates power.
Ri Yong-Ho, the army chief, also accompanied the hearse as it drove past ranks of troops.
North Korea has started the two-day funeral services for late leader Kim Jong-Il with a huge procession in the capital, Pyongyang
The three-hour funeral procession was led by a limousine bearing a huge portrait of a smiling Kim Jong-Il. The coffin was draped in a red flag and surrounded by white flowers.
As it passed by, crowds of mourners wailed and flailed their arms as soldiers struggled to keep them from spilling into the road.
One soldier interviewed by North Korean state television said: “The snow is endlessly falling like tears. How could the sky not cry when we’ve lost our general who was a great man from the sky? As we’re separated from the general by death, people, mountains and sky are all shedding tears of blood. Dear Supreme Commander!”
The procession was broadcast live on state television. When it ended outside Pyongyang’s Kumsusan Memorial Palace, state TV began broadcasting documentaries about Kim Jong-Il’s life.
Kim Jong-Il’s body had previously lain in state in a glass coffin at the palace.
Observers are keenly watching the line-up over the two-day funeral to see which officials are in prominent positions.
Kim Jong-Il – known in North Korea as the “Dear Leader” – was in the process of formalizing Kim Jong-Un as his successor when he died. However, the transition was not complete, leaving regional neighbors fearful of a power struggle in the nuclear-armed pariah state.
North Korea’s reluctance to open up the funeral ceremony to foreign delegations may signal that those hierarchies have not yet been fully agreed.
In the week since Kim Jong-Il died, state media has called Kim Jong-Un the “Great Successor” and referred to him as the leader of the military and the party.
Commemorations are expected to continue on Thursday, with a three-minute silence at noon local time (03:00 GMT), followed by trains and ships sounding horns. The national memorial service will then begin.
The inter-Korean Kaesong industrial park has been closed for two days for the mourning following a North Korean request, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reports.
Michael Plumadore, the suspected killer of 9-year-old Aliahna Lemmon from Fort Wayne, Indiana, posted her picture on Facebook one month before he allegedly bashed her in the head with a brick, hacked her to pieces with a handsaw and kept her head in his freezer.
Suspect Michael Plumadore posted a photo of Aliahna Lemmon standing alongside her sisters – once he was able to take because he had gained the trust of the family after befriending her grandfather James Lemmon.
James Lemmon and Michael Plumadore knew each because they were both sex offenders and were in jail together.
On his Facebook page, Michael Plumadore has several chilling pictures of the disabled girl who captured national attention when she went missing from a trailer park in Fort Wayne Thursday night.
The girl and her two sisters were staying with Michael Plumadore, 39, at his trailer while her mother recovered from the flu.
Richard Patee, 58, whose trailer is next to where Michael Plumadore was living, said he didn’t think it was odd that Aliahna Lemmon’s mother, Tarah Souders, had him watching the girls for an extended period.
“They had known each other for somewhere of three to four years, I know that, and he took care of their grandfather,” Richard Patee said.
“I didn’t see any reason to question it at all.”
Tarah Souders and Aliahna Lemmon were listed among nearly 600 friends on a Facebook page listed under Michael Plumadore’s name that said he was “Self Employed and Loving It!”, and enjoyed fantasy novels.
Michael Plumadore, the suspected killer of 9-year-old Aliahna Lemmon, posted her picture on Facebook one month before he murdered her
The day after Christmas, Michael Plumadore calmly admitted to detectives that he had committed an unimaginably horrific crime: brutally killing young Aliahna Lemmon and then dismembering her body so he could dispose of it.
Michael Plumadore led detectives to a dumpster at a nearby business where they found pieces of her torso, arms and legs that had been cut up with a hack saw and stuffed into garbage bags.
In his freezer, an even more grizzly find – little Aliahna Lemmon’s head, hands and feet.
Michael Plumadore’s Facebook photos reveal that he spent time with the girls at a riverside park in Fort Wayne and was at their home, as well.
One especially horrifying picture was of the three girls leaning against a railing labeled simply “Three Princesses”, which was uploaded in late November.
All of the pictures were in an online album called “The kids”.
Sheriff Ken Fries said detectives have a good idea why he killed Aliahna, but the lawman would not discuss Michael Plumadore’s motive.
Michael Plumadore cracked during his third interview with police. Detectives had spoken with him twice before and he had given no indication that he was responsible for Aliahna Lemmon’s disappearance, sheriff Ken Fries said.
The bogus story he first gave to detectives was that he had seen the girl sleeping in his chair at 6:00 a.m. Thursday when he got up to buy a cigar at a nearby convenience store.
He was awakened realized she was gone when Aliahna Lemmon’s mother called him at 10:00 a.m., he claimed. He told police he thought that she had left with her mother so she wasn’t reported missing until almost 9:00 p.m. Thursday.
Sheriff Ken Fries said he and his detectives didn’t believe his story but they had nothing but his word to go on.
Until Monday, the day after Christmas, detectives “finally hit the right chords” and Michael Plumadore came clean.
He said used a brick to beat Aliahna Lemmon in the back of the head multiple times as she stood on the steps outside his trailer. He then wrapped her body in several garbage bags and put it her in his freezer, according to court documents.
Despite the confession, the little girl’s grandmother, Amber Story, stood by Michael Plumadore.
“I don’t care what anybody says. Mike did nothing to her. He loves those girls,” Amber Story told the News-Sentinel.
On Monday, FBI agents descended on the rundown mobile home park in Fort Wayne where Aliahna Lemmon lived.
The park is a known haven for registered sex offenders, though Michael Plumadore isn’t on Indiana’s registered sex offenders list. He has a criminal record in Florida and North Carolina that includes convictions for trespassing and assault.
More than 100 emergency workers searched Saturday for Aliahna Lemmon around the mobile home park, where she was last seen.
Sheriff’s deputies, police officers and firefighters fanned out in the area around the trailer park where she disappeared, searching on ATVs and on foot. An airplane circled the area.
But Sheriff Ken Fries called off the hunt for Sunday, Christmas Day, and ordered only limited searches of area ponds on Monday.
He didn’t see any good in using the manpower to lead further widespread hunts for the girl, who was feared dead as federal authorities took over.
Aliahna Lemmon’s mother, Tarah Souders, 28, told The Journal Gazette earlier on Monday that her daughter had vision and hearing problems and suffered from attention deficit disorder and emotional problems. She also has a history of sleepwalking, family members said.
Nuratrim, a new weight loss pill that could burn 380 calories-a-day – 15 times more than normal – according to its maker, goes on sale in UK.
Advanced orders have topped 50,000 as Nuratrim reaches the UK today and it sold out within hours when it launched across the U.S. in October.
Mariah Carey, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston are reported have used Nuratrim, which contains extracts of liquorice and green coffee to speed up digestion.
Nuratrim’s German creator Dr. Alfred Hasslebacher said: “It has been devised to assist all men and women looking to lose excess weight and control their appetite.
“This optimum formula has been clinically proven to increase energy levels, suppress appetite, and burn fat.”
Mariah Carey, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston are reported have used Nuratrim, which contains extracts of liquorice and green coffee to speed up digestion
Nuratrim costs £34.95 ($55) for 30 pills and is designed to be taken daily with breakfast.
Over the Christmas period the average people will have had two or three dinner servings, containing 2,300 calories.
With many consuming more than the recommended daily intake it can take three months to shift extra weight gained, according to a study by MSN.
According to product’s makers report, Nuratrim can burn as many calories as a 40 minute run, and the natural ingredient Glucomannan, absorbs water which swells the stomach to keep hunger at bay.
Dr. Alfred Hasslebacher added: “Our extensive research showed how hard it is to achieve your ideal weight and size when the daily demands and pressures of your lifestyle impede on your good intentions.
“Nuratrim is an unique blend of pure ingredients that have thermogenic properties which naturally stimulate the body’s metabolism by mimicking the effects of physical activity.”
Research involving 65 patients of average weight, found Nuratrim increased metabolic rate by 35%, reduced appetite by 78% and burned an additional 20% of fat.
Over an 8 week period 90% of those involved lost a minimum of 14 lbs (7 kg) without changing their diet or lifestyle.
Dieters can trim two inches from their waistlines in only eight weeks by increasing the proportion of protein they eat and cutting back on carbohydrates and fat, a new research found.
An independent study was carried out by scientists for Marks & Spencer to investigate the claims of its Simply Fuller Longer range of ready meals and snacks.
In the trial, the group of men and women followed a menu planner that combined healthy, high-protein breakfast options with items from the range. Over a four-week period, 45 volunteers, who were restricted to 1,000 calories a day, lost on average 10 lb 7oz (4.7 kg).
But an extended study carried out over eight weeks found that 12 of the overweight participants lost on average 14 lb 5oz (6.5kg) on the diet.
The participants’ waistlines shrank on average by two inches to 37 in (94cm), their average body fat fell from 36.8% to 34%, and cholesterol levels dropped by as much as an eighth.
The menus feature snacks and ready meals including Asian-style Lochmuir salmon salad and chargrilled chicken and tomato risotto, with high levels of protein provided by fish and lean meat. Nutritionists say that a diet containing a high proportion of healthy protein-rich foods can aid weight loss because they create a feeling of fullness faster than those containing carbohydrates or fat.

Popular diets of recent times which adapt the principle have included the Atkins Diet and the Dukan Diet.
The study – ran by scientists at the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health at Aberdeen University – found that the volunteers felt less hungry despite cutting their calorie intake by 40%.
Senior research fellow Dr. Alex Johnstone recommends sticking to the protein-rich diet only as long as it takes to achieve the desired weight loss, then trying to maintain it through exercise.
Thousands of people have rallied this evening in the Israeli town of Beit Shemesh against ultra-Orthodox Jewish extremism.
Today protest follows two days of clashes after an 8-year-old girl said she had been harassed on her way to school.
Some ultra-Orthodox in Beit Shemesh are seeking to segregate men and women.
President Shimon Peres backed the protest saying hours before the rally: “The entire nation must be recruited in order to save the majority from the hands of a small minority.”
Shimon Peres said the demonstration was a defense of the “character” of the state of Israel “against a minority which breaks our national solidarity”.
Opposition leader Tzipi Livni also condemned “the extremist elements that are rearing their heads and are trying to impose their world view on us”.
Protesters, some holding signs reading “Free Israel from religious coercion” and “Stop Israel from becoming Iran”, gathered on Tuesday evening.
Thousands of people have rallied this evening in the Israeli town of Beit Shemesh against ultra-Orthodox Jewish extremism
Anger spilled over after an 8-year-old American girl, Naama Margolese, said she was afraid to walk to school in the town because ultra-Orthodox men shouted at her.
“When I walk to school in the morning, I used to get a tummy ache because I was so scared… that they were going to stand and start yelling and spitting,” Naama Margolese said in a subsequent interview with The Associated Press on Monday.
In his statement, President Shimon Peres said: “No person has the right to threaten a girl, a woman or any person in any way. They are not the lords of this land.”
Other women have reported similar incidents in the town of 100,000, some 18 miles (30km) south-west of Jerusalem.
Sarit Ramon described the situation in the town, where religiously observant immigrants live alongside Israelis embracing a more modern lifestyle, as having been “catastrophic for years”.
“When I told that I was spat at a year and a half ago, people raised an eyebrow, and that was about it,” she told Reuters.
Alisa Coleman told the BBC that she had been called a prostitute when dressed in a short-sleeved T-shirt and a skirt.
Though underlining that this behavior was carried out by only a tiny proportion of the community, she said what was happening in Beit Shemesh was “a microcosm of what’s happening in the whole country”.
On Monday, one police officer was slightly hurt and a number of Orthodox Jews were detained after a group of some 300 ultra-Orthodox residents pelted police with stones and eggs in an incident reportedly triggered after police tried to remove a sign ordering segregation.
A television crew attempting to film in the town were surrounded and harassed – the second alleged attack on journalists in as many days.
On Sunday, a crew from Channel 2 news, which originally aired Naama Margolese’s story, was attacked as they were filming, say reports, with rocks allegedly thrown at their van.
After Monday’s clashes, unnamed ultra-Orthodox activists from Beit Shemesh issued a statement condemning the violence, but also accusing the media of initiating “deliberate provocations in order to make the peaceful, quiet and tolerant residents, who live their lives according to their beliefs, look bad”.
Such clashes have become more frequent in Israel in recent years as the authorities have challenged efforts by ultra-Orthodox Jews to segregate women in public places.
Ultra-Orthodox Jews make up 10% of the population in Israel. The community has a high birth rate and is growing rapidly.
Noah Kravitz’s former employer, Phonedog, want him to hand back his Twitter following when he left the company.
The landmark case opens up legal questions over who “owns” followers on a corporate Twitter account – and whether followers are a commodity that can actually be owned.
Noah Kravitz, who tweets under his own name, had been employed by Phonedog as a blogger and had 17,000 followers.
Phonedog – a cell phone retailer – is now suing Noah Kravitz for taking his Twitter followers with him – alleging that each follower is worth $2.50 a month, as his follower list was equivalent to a list of customers, and is their property.
“The idea that all 17,000 people who follow Kravitz were doing do because of PhoneDog is disingenuous at best,” The Atlantic magazine reported, in a comment retweeted by Noah Kravitz yesterday.
Noah Kravitz’s account – which now has 22,000 followers, Tweets on subjects as diverse as Steely Dan, Android phones, liquorice and flu bugs.
Noah Kravitz told the New York Times that he had agreed to retain control of the Twitter account, providing that he, “tweet on their behalf from time to time”.
“I said sure, as we were parting on good terms,” said Noah Kravitz.
Eight months after Noah Kravitz left, Phonedog sought damages.
Phonedog said in a statement: “The costs and resources invested by Phonedog Media into growing its followers, fans and general brand awareness through social media are substantial and are considered property of Phonedog Media.”
The company vowed to “aggressively protect” its property.
The GSM network, known as the “normal” mobile phone network, accounts for 80% of the global mobile market and is used by 4 billion phones worldwide.
Recently, a new cell phones vulnerability have been demonstrated by Karsten Nohl, head of Germany’s Security Research Labs, which shows that any phone on any GSM network is vulnerable to attack.
The new attack – which Karsten Nohl did not publish – allows hackers to control hundreds of thousands of mobile phones at once.
The attack allows hackers complete control over the handsets, and could be used to make or send texts to premium phone and messaging services – a typical fraudster attack which can leave victims with enormous bills.
Karsten Nohl said that although he refused to lay out details of how the attack worked, it was inevitable that hackers would reproduce it “within weeks”.
“We can do it to hundreds of thousands of phones in a short timeframe,” Karsten Nohl said in advance of a presentation at a hacking convention in Berlin on Tuesday.
Security Research Labs said: “GSM telephony is the world’s most popular communication technology – connecting over four billion devices.”
“The security standards for voice and text messaging date back to 1990 and have never been overhauled.”
Similar attacks against a small number of smartphones have been done before, but the new attack could expose any cellphone using GSM technology.
Such attacks are fairly common against corporate phone systems.
Fraudsters make calls to the numbers from hacked business phone systems or mobile phones, then collect their cash and move on before the activity is identified.
The cell phone users typically don’t identify the problem until after they receive their bills and telecommunications carriers often end up footing at least some of the costs.
Even though Karsten Nohl will not present details of attack at the conference, he said hackers will usually replicate the code needed for attacks within a few weeks.
A Facebook update will make users to become unwitting corporate ambassadors under plans by the company to allow the site’s main news feed to carry sponsorship messages carrying their mugshots.
Beginning in the New Year, so-called “sponsored stories” appear in the main news feed that Facebook users’ friends see. At present, if you click to “like” a product, it does not always appear in the main feed.
The new update will show friends your profile picture and the product you have “endorsed” in much larger form in the main news feed – a move that the site admits is designed to bring in advertising revenue.
Facebook say the scheme is a vital revenue booster, which will help it claw back some of the $1 billion a year it spends on developing the site.
Facebook claims that because the stories are labeled “Sponsored”, they will be less intrusive.
If a user decides to “Like” a product, the endorsement will also remain on their new, open “timeline” profile, enabling companies to pay Facebook to feature their adverts more visibly.
However, the announcement will infuriate users who feel that the social network is taking too much ownership over its 800milllion members’ personal information.
Facebook users in the U.S. have now launched a legal action against the company to contest the commercial use of the “Like” button.
A judge in San Jose, California, has allowed plaintiffs to bring a case against the social network in which they argue that the company is using their names and likenesses without their authorization.
Judge Lucy Koh dismissed an attempt by Facebook to have the case thrown out, saying: “In the same way that celebrities suffer economic harm when their likeness is misappropriated for another’s commercial gain without compensation, plaintiffs allege they have been injured by Facebook’s failure to compensate them for the use of their personal endorsement.”
The dispute centres on Facebook’s “Like” button, which allows users to virtually approve of a post by other users, or a product, with a single click.
These approvals then appear on that person’s profile page, and allow the social network to build up a profile of the user to target advertising.
The case will be heard next year.
Facebook said in an email statement: “We are reviewing the decision and continue to believe the case is without merit.”
The case comes after as a privacy watchdog set Facebook a 2012 deadline to change dozens of policies to improve users’ privacy.
Ireland’s privacy watchdog, the Data Protection Commissioner, audited Facebook’s international headquarters in Dublin and identified dozens of areas where the company needs to change the way it works.
The judgement will have implications for users throughout Europe and around the world – including changes to the site’s use of data harvested from users, and the need for clearer warnings about how users’ personal information might be used.
The multi-vitamin pills are taken daily by millions of people in the world, hoping to ward off ill-health.
However, a major study showed that the vitamin pills do nothing for our health.
A team of French researchers spent more than 6 years following 8,000 people and found that those taking supplements were just as likely to have developed cancer or heart disease as those who took an identical-looking dummy pill.
And when they were questioned on how healthy they felt, there was hardly any difference between the two groups.
Experts said the study – one of the most extensive carried out into vitamin pills – suggested that millions of consumers may be wasting their money on supplements.
Many users fall into the category of the “worried well” – healthy adults who believe the pills will insure them against deadly illnesses – according to Catherine Collins, chief dietician at St. George’s Hospital in London.
Catherine Collins said: “It’s the worried well who are taking these pills to try and protect themselves against Alzheimer’s disease, heart attacks and strokes.
“But they are wasting their money. This was a large study following people up for a long period of time assessing everything from their mobility and blood pressure to whether they were happy or felt pain.”
A team of French researchers spent more than 6 years following 8,000 people and found that those taking supplements were just as likely to have developed cancer or heart disease as those who took an identical-looking dummy pill
Multi-vitamin supplements have become increasingly popular as a quick and easy way of topping up the body’s nutrient levels.
But a series of studies have indicated that, for some people, they could actually be harmful.
Two studies published in 2010 suggested supplements could raise the risk of cancer.
One found pills containing vitamin E, ascorbic acid, beta-carotene, selenium and zinc increased the risk of malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, four-fold.
Other study discovered women on a daily multi-vitamin pill increased their risk of breast cancer by up to 20%.
While the evidence that vitamins can do harm is still limited, the latest study seems to confirm that many people are at the very least taking them unnecessarily.
The team of French researchers, led by experts at Nancy University, tracked 8,112 volunteers who took either a placebo capsule, or one containing vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, selenium and zinc, every day for just over six years.
They assessed the state of their health at the beginning and end of the trial, taking a quality of life survey designed to measure everything from mobility and pain to vitality and mental health.
When researchers analyzed how many in each group had gone on to develop serious illnesses over the years, they found little difference.
In the supplement group, 30.5% of patients had suffered a major health “event”, such as cancer or heart disease. In the placebo group, the rate was 30.4%.
There were 120 cases of cancer in those taking vitamins, compared to 139 in the placebo group, and 65 heart disease cases, against 57 among the dummy pill users.
In a report on their findings, published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, the researchers said: “The perception that supplementation improves general well-being is not supported by this trial.”
Catherine Collins said the results of the study “reinforce the idea that if you’re worried about your health and start taking multi-vitamins, you will still be worried about it six years later”.
The Health Supplements Information Service, which is funded by supplements manufacturers, said the finding that vitamins had no impact on how people perceived their health was “to be expected”.
Spokeswoman Dr. Carrie Ruxton said: “The role of vitamin supplements is to prevent deficiencies and make sure people are receiving their recommended levels.
“They won’t have a measurable impact on how you feel on a day-to-day basis but what they are doing is topping up your recommended levels to the right amount. They are not meant to be a magic bullet.”
As Will Smith posted The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air cast reunion photos on his Facebook page, they sparked fond memories for most.
Janet Hubert – one former cast member who was notably absent from the shot- was not so happy to see the reference to that chapter of her career.
Janet Hubert – who played Will Smith’s aunt Vivian in the sitcom, has rubbished rumors sparked by the picture, saying: “There will never be a reunion … as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith.”
The actress told TMZ: “He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn’t know the word.”
Janet Hubert, who left the show in 1993 halfway through its six year run, has blamed Will Smith for her departure since, claiming she was dismissed because she refused to bow to his ego.
Will Smith has refuted the claims however, and told an Atlanta radio station after her departure that Janet Hubert had a bad attitude.
“[Hubert] said once, <<I’ve been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show>>. No matter what, to her I’m just the AntiChrist,” Will Smith said.
It would appear that the animosity between Will Smith and Janet Hubert has not yet subsided.
Janet Hubert, who left the show in 1993 halfway through its six year run, has blamed Will Smith for her departure since, claiming she was dismissed because she refused to bow to his ego
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air which aired from 1990 until 1996, was staple for a generation of teenagers in the US and abroad.
It has been claimed that Janet Hubert- who was replaced by Daphne Reid after three years on the show- violated her contract when she became pregnant.
A new character Nicky Banks was worked into the plot to accommodate the situation.
Janet Hubert and Will Smith were reportedly at odds long before the pregnancy however.
Will Smith, 43, said he was delighted to be able to see the rest of his second family in the run up to Christmas at a special charity event last week.
Will Smith said: “Got the Holiday season started right with a Fresh Prince of Bel Air reunion.
“There’s nothin’ like spending Holidays with fam!”
A reunion picture- not including Janet Hubert- was taken last week at a luncheon for the charity Sweet Blackberry, which was founded by Karyn Parsons, who played airhead weather girl Hilary on the show.
Other cast members present were Tatyana Ali, who played his little cousin Ashley, Alfonso Ribeiro who played his snobby cousin Carlton and James Avery, who was the Banks family patriarch Uncle Phil.
Sadly missing was Joseph Marcell, who played the Banks’ butler Geoffrey, Daphne Reid who filled the role of matriarch Aunt Vivian from 1993 to 1996.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air followed the adventures of a fictionalized version of Will Smith himself.
After getting into trouble with a local gang his mother decides to send him to stay with her wealthy and successful sister in the posh Bel Air area of Los Angeles.
It was notable for Will Smith’s often eccentric choices of early 90s clothing, with the rapper displaying a particular fondness for Day-Glo pinks.
Amazingly the future movie superstar only agreed to appear in the show as he was in massive debt problems with the IRS, owing $2.8 million after overspending on the income he earned from his then successful career as a rapper.
It became a launch pad for his hugely successful acting career, which has saw him star in box office hits such as Independence Day, Men In Black and Ali.
Sinead O’Connor has announced on her official website that she ends her fourth marriage, which lasted just 16 days.
Sinead O’Connor, 45, wrote a lengthy and heartfelt message after fearing the news of her split from Barry Herridge, who she wed on December 8, was about to be leaked.
The Irish singer revealed that she and Barry Herridge actually lived together as husband and wife for just seven days before ending their relationship on Christmas Eve, 16 days after their Las Vegas union.
Sinead O’Connor blamed “intense pressure” placed on her husband from members of his circle following their sudden Las Vegas union, which she revealed ended in a “wild” journey to find marijuana.
The singer told her fans that the pair have parted amicably and said she still loves Barry Herridge “very much”, but that he was too nice “to trap”.
Sinead O’Connor wrote: “From the moment myself and my husband got together not long ago, there was intense pressure placed upon him by certain people in his life, not to be involved with me. These were people who had never met me but had formed opinions of me based on what they read about <<Sinead O’Connor>> in the media etc.
“Entitled as they are to their opinions about me many perhaps well deserved, there was no righteousness on anyone’s part to put my husband through what he was put through as a result of his desire to be with me and to marry me and as a result of his actually marrying me.
“Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behavior of certain people in my husband’s life. And also by a bit of a wild ride I took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don’t drink. My husband was enormously wounded and very badly effected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage.
“It became apparent to me that if he were to stay with me he would be losing too much to bear. And that being with me was not going to serve him positively, career wise or any other wise. I saw his life leave him because of how people close to him reacted. And I can’t take anyone’s life. And a woman wants to be a joy to her husband. So.. U love someone? Set them free.
Sinead O’Connor continued: “He is a wonderful man. I love him very much. I’m sorry I’m not a more regular woman. I truly believe though it is painful to admit, we made a mistake rushing into getting married, for altruistic reasons, and weren’t aware or prepared for the consequences on my husband’s life and the lives of those close to him. He has been terribly unhappy and I have therefore ended the marriage. I think he is too nice to do so. And too nice to trap.”
Sinead O'Connor has announced on her official website that she ends her fourth marriage with Barry Herridge, which lasted just 16 days
Sinead O’Connor asked for fans and media to respect her husband’s privacy, and added: “Meanwhile I intend to get on with being fully me. With never an apology for ANY part if being FULLY ME. No matter what.
“I am a 21st century full woman and proud of living it. I am in a very good and happy and strong place in life so I am doing fine. The marriage was 16 days. We lived together for 7 days only. Until Xmas eve. And we haven’t been awful to each other.
“So while I feel sad for my husband, and sad to be the cause of sorrow to yet another poor man, I’m also happy that I know we weren’t horrible to each other and he is better off free. And that I can be me. And that’s a freedom I can’t give up for anyone or anything.”
The Irish singer ended the announcement with “rock n roll”.
Sinead O’Connor and Barry Herridge wed at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas after just three months of dating.
After the ceremony, for which she wore a pretty strapless pink dress, Sinead O’Connor wrote on her blog: “Dear friends… amongst whom I include whomever may be reading this with a view to writing about the glorious marriage.
“Am blogging this cus media people are naturally seeking me. On Sunday I will put up a blog on whole day. Too glorious for words.”
Two of the U.S. biggest superstores, Sears and Kmart, are being forced to close over a hundred shops because of poor Christmas sales.
It was reported that between 100 and 120 Sears and Kmart stores will be closed after terrible holiday sales, forcing the retail giant which owns the brands to suffer a massive blow.
Retailers depend on good revenue during the Christmas season to make it through the rest of the year, so when the retailer failed to make a dent this year, there are massive repercussions.
Sears and Kmart have yet to determine which of the more than 4,000 U.S. and Canadian stores will be closed, but there has been a clear shift in where the retailer will devote its resources.
Sears would not discuss how many, if any, jobs would be cut, but it could easily reach the thousand-person mark.
The retailer is moving away from its practice of propping up “marginally performing” stores in hopes of improving their performance. Sears said it will now concentrate on cash-generating stores.
“Given our performance and the difficult economic environment, especially for big-ticket items, we intend to implement a series of actions to reduce ongoing expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model,” said CEO Louis D’Ambrosio.
“These actions will better enable us to focus our investments on serving our customers.”
Sears Holdings Corp., based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, said that the store closings will generate $140 to $170 million in cash from inventory sales.
The retailer anticipates additional proceeds from the sale or sublease of real estate holdings.
The company, which operates Kmart stores, Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Land’s End, has seen rival department stores like Macy’s Inc. and discounters like Target Corp. steal customers away.
But the economy is put a sustained financial squeeze on its most loyal customers, those in the middle-income bracket.
The retailer had announced numerous closings this year, but this is the largest group of closings to date by far. Hoped for holiday sales to not materialize.
Same-store revenue fell 5.2% to date for the quarter at both Sears and Kmart, the company said Tuesday. That includes the critical holiday shopping period, a time that most retailers depend on for a sales surge that will put them in the black.
Kmart’s 6% decline in revenue at stores open at least a year was blamed on diminished layaways and a drop in clothing and consumer electronics sales.
Sears’ cited lackluster consumer electronics and home appliance sales for its 4.4% drop off. Sears’ clothing sales were flat, while sales of Lands’ End products at Sears stores rose mid-single digits.
Sears Holdings said that the declining sales, ongoing margin pressure and rising expenses pulled its adjusted earnings lower.
The retailer predicts fourth-quarter consolidated adjusted earnings will be less than half the prior-year period’s $933 million. It also anticipates a non-cash charge of $1.6 billion to $1.8 billion in the quarter for a valuation allowance on some deferred tax assets.
This figure is a key gauge of a retailer’s health because it excludes results from stores recently opened or closed.
Sears Holdings said it also plans to lower its fixed costs by $100million to $200million and trim its 2012 peak domestic inventory by $300million from 2011’s $10.2 billion at the third quarter’s end.
Pictures of Kardashian’s annual Christmas Eve party show the famous family posing with Santa Claus, opening presents by the festive tree and making the most of the holiday period and quality time together.
Kim Kardashian, 31, looked far from miserable about her recent heartache as she glammed up for the occasion in a floor-length dress and no doubt asked the big man himself if he could just grant her a speedy divorce from Kris Humphries.
Kim Kardashian wore a silver grey garment with long-sleeved and she teamed it with a pair of matching stilettos and several bangles.
However, it wasn’t long until she’s had enough of being dressed up and emerged wearing a pair of gnome-print pyjamas.
Kim Kardashian giggled and played with the young kids as she donned a pair of reindeer antlers too.
The reality star spent time cuddling her adorable nephew Mason as they admired her younger sisters’ new chocolate Labrador puppies.
Mason, 2, had also been dressed up for the party and wore a dark red velvet blazer with a white shirt and black bow tie.
Mason’s mother, Kourtney Kardashian, looked happy and relaxed as she posed with her son who wore a hat made of balloons.
The Kardashians’ spent quality time together at their glamorous annual Christmas Eve party
Kourtney Kardashian showed off her growing baby bump on a black shift dress that had lace sleeves, which seemed to match her boyfriend’s attire.
Her partner, Scott Disick, wore a black and white checked suit with a white shirt and looked rather serious as he posed with the rest of the family.
The mother-of-six, Kris Jenner, looked exceptionally glamorous in a black floor-length dress that was covered in sequins.
Kris Jenner also stopped by the staircase for a chat with Santa and looked rather happy with one of her gifts – an Apple iHome docking station.
She also spent time mingling with her party guests, which included plastic surgeon Garth Fisher and former ox Sugar Ray Leonard.
Her husband Bruce Jenner seemed happy to step away from the spotlight and is rarely seen in any of the photographs, but he does look happy in a group shot that sees the family all come together.
Bruce Jenner teenage daughters Kendall and Kylie looked older than their years in more glamorous party dresses.
Kendall Jenner wore a rather short black fitted dress that was decorated with tiny gold studs whereas Kylie opted for a short cream dress that had a pleated skirt.
The girls looked extremely pleased with Santa as they sat on his knee and paraded around the house with their new puppies.
It was recently revealed that they have named the dogs Louis and Vuitton.
Someone who didn’t look so pleased to see Father Christmas was Mason.
The toddler looked annoyed as his father Scott Disick held him up on the bearded man’s lap and appeared desperate to get back down.
Mason’s parents couldn’t miss an opportunity for a photograph though and posed for the cameras as their son pulled a face.
They were later seen posing again by the Christmas tree as Mason clutched his giant candy cane and looked tired in his mother’s arms.
Kim Kardashian’s brother wasn’t so keen on being in front of the cameras either and only posed for a few pictures with his family.
Rob Kardashian wore a simple black shirt and matching trousers with red suede shoes.
But he wasn’t the only Kardashian sibling who wasn’t pictured much as someone who wasn’t even there at all was Khloe.
Khloe Kardashian, 27, was in Dallas with her husband Lamar Odom for the opening of the NBA season as he is now playing for the Dallas Mavericks.
The famous family made up for Khloe’s absence as they were joined by various celebrity friends.
U.S. star Maria Menounos arrived at the party in a low-cut black dress that showed off her trim figure perfectly.
The leggy actress posed with Kourtney and Kim before admiring the puppies along with the family.
Also there to have a good time were twin actresses Khadijah and Malika Haqq.
The women – who have starred in the Kardashians reality programmes – donned Christmas hats as they posed with Kim kardashian and celebrity make-up artist Rob Scheppy.

It’s well known that the former US president, Richard Nixon, carpet-bombed Cambodia, spewed out anti-Semitic slurs and crude misogynistic jokes in the White House and smeared his political opponents with ruthless “dirty tricks” campaigns.
And nobody forget Richard Nixon lied to his country about his involvement in the Watergate scandal and went down in history as America’s shiftiest, darkest President.
Given everything that Richard Nixon has been accused of, it’s difficult to believe there could be any more skeletons left in his cupboard. But it seems there are.
A new biography of Richard Nixon, written by Don Fulsom, a veteran Washington reporter who covered the former president years, suggests the 37th U.S. President had a serious drink problem, beat his wife and – by the time he was inaugurated in 1969 – had links going back two decades to the Mafia, including with New Orleans godfather Carlos Marcello, then America’s most powerful mobster.
Yet the most extraordinary claim is that the homophobic Richard Nixon may have been gay himself. If true, it would provide a fascinating insight into the motivation and behavior of a notoriously secretive politician.
Don Fulsom argues that Richard Nixon may have had an affair with his best friend and confidant, a Mafia connected Florida wheeler-dealer named Charles “Bebe” Rebozo who was even more crooked than Nixon.
The book, “Nixon’s Darkest Secrets”, is out next month – by coincidence at the same time as the UK release of a new film directed by Clint Eastwood about another supposed closet gay among Washington’s 20th-century hard men.
But while FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover, played in Eastwood’s film by Leonardo DiCaprio, allegedly had an affair with his squeaky-clean deputy Clyde Tolson, Richard Nixon’s supposed secret paramour was a very different character.
Bebe Rebozo was a short, swarthy, good-looking Cuban-American businessman with a history of failed relationships with women and close alliances with Miami’s Mafia chiefs.
The veteran TV newsman Dan Rather recalled how Bebe Rebozo “transmitted the sense of great sensuality”, paying tribute to his “magnetic” personality and “beautiful eyes”.
Don Fulsom uses recently revealed documents and eyewitness interviews – including with FBI agents – to shed new light on long-standing suspicions among White House insiders that Richard Nixon may have been more than just good buddies with Bebe Rebozo.
The journalist claims Richard Nixon’s relationship with Pat, his wife of 53 years, was little more than a sham. A heavy drinker whom his own staff dubbed “Our Drunk”, Richard Nixon used to call his First Lady a “f***ing bitch” and beat her before, during and after his presidency, says Don Fulsom.
Richard Nixon and his wife had separate bedrooms at the White House – and in Key Biscayne, the exclusive resort near Miami where they holidayed, Pat Nixon didn’t even sleep in the same building. Bebe Rebozo, however, was in the house next door.

Don Fulsom claims one of Richard Nixon’s former military aides had a secret job “to teach the President how to kiss his wife” so they would look like a convincing couple.
How much of this can we believe? Richard Nixon died in 1994 and his reputation is pretty much irredeemable. As with Eastwood’s Hoover film, there is no definitive proof, but plenty of “supporting evidence”.
Don Fulsom quotes a former Time magazine reporter who, at a Washington dinner, bent down to pick up a fork and saw the two holding hands under the table. It was, the reporter judged, sufficiently intimate to suggest “repressed homosexuality”.
Another journalist related how, loosened up by drink, Richard Nixon once put his arm around Bebe Rebozo “the way you’d cuddle your senior prom date. Something was fishy there”.
But who exactly was Bebe Rebozo, and how did a shady Florida businessman of unclear sexual leanings end up as the bosom friend of one of the most paranoid and buttoned-up political leaders of the 20th century?
Born two months before Richard Nixon in 1912, Charles Gregory Rebozo was the son of a Cuban cigar-maker and, as the youngest of nine, was stuck with the nickname “Bebe”.
Bebe Rebozo came from poverty but worked his way up through property speculation and then banking. According to the FBI, he had close links with Mob bosses such as Santo Trafficante, the Tampa Godfather, and Alfred “Big Al” Polizzi, a stooge of Meyer Lansky, the Cosa Nostra’s financial brains.
By the 1960s, an FBI agent was describing Bebe Rebozo as a “non- member associate of organized crime figures”. He bought land in Florida with a business partner who was believed to be a front for some of the most powerful Mafiosi.
When Bebe Rebozo started his own bank in Florida in 1964, Richard Nixon – then a lawyer – wielded a golden shovel at the ground-breaking ceremony and became its first depositor.
According to Mafioso Vincent Teresa, the bank was used by the Mob to launder stolen cash. It hardly seems possible that Richard Nixon, who pledged to make fighting organized crime a priority of his presidency, could not have known of his best friend’s Mafia links.
Richard Nixon had just won one of California’s U.S. Senate seats when he first met Bebe Rebozo in 1950. Fearing Richard Nixon was facing a nervous breakdown, fellow Senator George Smathers suggested a holiday in Florida and enlisted his old school friend Bebe Rebozo to show the socially awkward Nixon a good time.
Their first jaunt together – in Bebe Rebozo’s 33ft fishing boat – did not go well. Bebe Rebozo later complained that Richard Nixon just sat reading papers and, according to his host, barely said half a dozen words to him.
George Smathers said Bebe Rebozo later told him: “Don’t ever send that son of a bitch Nixon down here again. He’s a guy who doesn’t know how to talk, doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t chase women… he can’t even fish.”
But Bebe Rebozo persevered – and according to a cynical George Smathers, Richard Nixon’s rising stardom in Washington and the potential influence it offered “had a lot to do with it”.
In months, Richard Nixon and Bebe Rebozo were inseparable, holidaying with Nixon’s wife Pat – and without her. Bebe Rebozo became an “uncle figure” to the Richard Nixons’ two daughters, Tricia and Julie. The dapper Cuban-American chose Richard Nixon’s clothes and even selected the films he watched at the White House.
On Richard Nixon’s solo visits to Key Biscayne, they swam and sunbathed, indulging in their shared passions for discussing Broadway musicals and barbecuing steaks.
Both men were also extremely secretive, and their relationship – described as the “most important unsolved mystery in Nixon’s life” – was kept so discreet that the New York Times did not mention it for nearly 20 years.
Observers noticed their intimacy became most apparent when they were drunk. An aide recalled them playing a game called King of the Pool at Key Biscayne: “It was late at night, the two men had been drinking. Nixon mounted a rubber raft in the pool while Rebozo tried to turn it over. Then, laughing and shouting, they’d change places.”
They were seen together at the same British-themed hostelries in the Key: the English Pub, where they drank beer from tankards engraved with their names, and the Jamaica Inn, where they ate at a discreet booth.
Both spots were owned by another businessman with Mob links and the secret service asked Richard Nixon to find another place to eat.
Why the President’s minders didn’t raise alarms about Bebe Rebozo’s Mafia connections has puzzled experts, but they probably didn’t dare. When a New York newspaper investigated Bebe Rebozo’s Mob links in the 1970s, its staff suddenly found themselves under secret service surveillance.
A White House aide once dismissed Bebe Rebozo’s role as “the guy who mixed the Martinis”, but he was far more important than that.
When Richard Nixon became President, Bebe Rebozo got his own office and bedroom at the White House, and a security clearance that allowed him to go in and out without being logged by the secret service. Using a false name, says Don Fulsom, Bebe Rebozo even got into Richard Nixon’s hotel suite during a trip to Europe.
The President’s closest colleagues complained at the way Bebe Rebozo monopolized Richard Nixon’s time. General Alexander Haig, his last chief of staff, is said to have imitated Bebe Rebozo’s “limp wrist” manner and joked that Rebozo and Nixon were lovers.
According to Don Fulsom, Henry Kissinger resented the way Bebe Rebozo would fly on Air Force One, the Presidential plane, wearing a blue U.S. Navy flight jacket bearing the President’s seal and with his name stitched on it.
Away from Richard Nixon’s side, Bebe Rebozo surrounded himself with glamorous women and threw Miami parties that descended into orgies, but was it all a front?
Aged 18, Bebe Rebozo reportedly enjoyed an “intense” affair with a young man, Donald Gunn. He later wed Donald Gunn’s teenage sister. The marriage lasted four years and, according to his wife, was never consummated.
Bebe Rebozo didn’t marry again until middle age, when he entered what Newsweek magazine described as an “antiseptic” alliance with his lawyer’s secretary. “Bebe’s favourites are Richard Nixon, his cat – and then me,” the lady complained later. A fellow Miami resident told Richard Nixon biographer Anthony Summers that Bebe Rebozo was definitely part of the city’s gay community.
Anthony Summers and co-writer Robbyn Swan, however, question whether there is enough evidence to suggest Richard Nixon was gay. “They held hands on occasion, and both men had problems with consummating physical relationships with women, but we found no evidence that Nixon was actively homosexual,” Anthony Summers said.
Physical or not, Richard Nixon’s attraction to Bebe Rebozo has struck many as politically reckless. Nixon expert Professor Fawn Brodie couldn’t understand how he would be “willing to risk the kind of gossip that frequently accompanies close friendship with a perennial bachelor”. After all, Fawn Brodie added, Nixon was, in public, a virulent gay-hater.
When Walter Jenkins, a trusted aide to President Lyndon Johnson, was caught providing sexual favors to a retired sailor in a YMCA lavatory, Richard Nixon denounced him as “ill”. People who suffered this “illness”, he added, “cannot be in places of high trust”.
Bebe Rebozo was certainly in a position of “high trust”, and not only because he was a key fundraiser. He was with Richard Nixon when he announced his successful run for President and again in June 1972 when Nixon learned that five men hired by the White House to break into the Watergate building had been arrested.
“We were swimming at Key Biscayne in front of my house,” Bebe Rebozo recalled.
“They came out and told him. He said: <<What in God’s name were they doing there?>> We laughed and forgot about it.”
Bebe Rebozo also ended up being investigated by the Watergate committee, which found that a $100,000 cash contribution from the industrialist Howard Hughes that was meant for the Republican Party was actually in Rebozo’s safe deposit box.
It also emerged that both Richard Nixon and Bebe Rebozo’s personal wealth had soared during Nixon’s first five years in the White House, Rebozo’s rising nearly seven-fold from $675,000 to nearly $4.5 million.
Bebe Rebozo escaped prosecution – allegedly because of a White House deal – and he stood by his disgraced friend. He was at Nixon’s bedside during his final days.
When Bebe Rebozo died in 1998, he left more than $19 million to the Nixon memorial library, whose executive director eulogized him as a “consummate gentleman” on whose “wise counsel, shrewd political insight and ready wit” Richard Nixon relied.
Typically, Richard Nixon had been rather less charitable – he always described Bebe Rebozo as just a “golfing partner”.
Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has left Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire after four nights.
Buckingham Palace said Prince Phillip will now return to the Royal Family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
The Duke of Edinburgh had been in Papworth Hospital since Friday when he had a coronary stent fitted after being admitted following chest pains.
Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has left Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire after four nights
Prince Philip, who left by road and waved to reporters, missed the royal Christmas celebrations and had to sit out the traditional Boxing Day shoot.
He sat upright and smiled broadly as he left the hospital.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “On departure, Prince Philip thanked the staff at Papworth for the excellent care he has received during his stay.
“He is very much looking forward to rejoining his family.”
The Duke of Edinburgh is said to have been advised by doctors to rest.
The Queen, 85, has been briefed regularly on her husband’s condition.
On his arrival at Papworth Hospital doctors discovered a blocked artery and went ahead with a “minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting”, which was declared a success.
Stenting involves inserting a tube called a stent into an artery, to improve blood flow.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s next formal engagement is not until 17 January when he is due to attend a dinner at the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge.
Usually on Boxing Day Prince Philip would lead the Royal Family’s shooting party.
But this year he was under doctor’s orders not to leave his bed while he was kept under observation.
This is the most serious health scare suffered by the normally spry nonagenarian.
Prince Philip usually accompanies the Queen and in the autumn he travelled to Australia on a 11-day official visit to Perth, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were reportedly spent Christmas together at their Brentwood, California home with their children.
Maria Shriver, 56, who filed for divorce from her husband in June, is said to be “reconsidering” their divorce.
People cite a source close to the family who reveals that the couple “had a really nice time” over the holiday.
The source said they also attended the Los Angeles Lakers’ season opener game at the Staples Center in the afternoon.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver were reportedly spent Christmas together at their Brentwood, California home with their children
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have been spotted with each other frequently since the announcement of their split in the wake of it being revealed that Arnold fathered a love child.
Maria Shriver was also by her ex’s side on his 64th birthday in July.
The former couple, married 25 years before announcing their separation in May, have four children together: Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher.
Maria Shriver filed for divorce from her husband after he admitted earlier this year to fathering a love child with their former maid Mildred Baena 14 years ago.
Now it appears that Maria Shriver is reconsidering the move.
Due to a number of factors, including her Catholic beliefs, Maria Shriver has reportedly told friends that she is having second thoughts, sources have told TMZ.
Most devout Catholics do not believe in divorce.
The decision for Maria Shriver is said to have been made even more difficult with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s attempts to woo her back.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, 64, has apparently been showering Maria Shriver with gifts and acting “extremely sweet” towards his estranged wife, according to TMZ.
Since announcing their split, the couple has been remaining amicable for the sake of their children.
They were even seen attending church together last month.
Maria Shriver is also still visiting Arnold Schwarzenegger’s favorite Beverly Hills salon Giuseppe Franco.
Arnold Schwarzenegger also organized haircuts for himself and sons Patrick, 18, and Christopher, 14, the same week.
The Schwarzenegger family shearing’s is perhaps one sign that Arnold and Maria are amicably working through their difficulties.
