Margaret Thatcher’s death: Taiwan TV shows footage of the Queen while Thai TV uses Meryl Streep pictures

Margaret Thatcher’s death news has been broadcasted all over the world but a Taiwanese news station aired footage of Queen Elizabeth II while reporting the death of the former British Prime Minister.

CTi Cable flashed a headline declaring “Margaret Thatcher Dies of Stroke” while running two clips of the Queen shaking hands with members of the public.

The newscaster said: “We’ve learned the breaking news that ex Prime Minister, the Iron Lady, Thatcher, died at home in London due to stroke today, the 8th, this morning, at the age of 88.

“A spokesperson for Thatcher has publicly confirmed this news. What we know is that Thatcher has been suffering ill health in recent years.

“Since more than 10 years ago, she’s suffered numerous minor strokes. Just last December, she had surgery in London to remove a bladder tumor.”

It is not known why Cti Cable gave her age as 88, but it could either be an error or down to the Chinese custom of counting one’s age as starting with one when you are born.

The station apologized last night after viewers criticized the station for failing to distinguish between Margaret Thatcher and the Queen.

Meanwhile in Thailand, news producers for the country’s army-owned Channel 5 made a similar error, using a photograph of actress Meryl Streep when they reported news of Margaret Thatcher’s death this morning.

For nearly two minutes, the channel displayed Lady Thatcher’s biography alongside a picture of Meryl Streep in character for the film The Iron Lady, which tells the story of Margaret Thatcher’s life.

The production team wrote on Facebook later: “We will improve and develop our work more carefully and are deeply sorry.”

Margaret Thatcher died Monday at the Ritz Hotel in London aged 87 after suffering a massive stroke.

Iran earthquake strikes near Bushehr nuclear power station killing 30 people

At least 30 people have been killed and other 800 have been injured after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Bushehr province in south-west Iran, officials say.

Rescue teams have been sent to the affected area, but darkness is hampering rescue operations.

The quake struck 90 km (60 miles) south of Iran’s only nuclear power station in Bushehr, the US Geological Survey (USGS) says.

At least 30 people have been killed and other 800 have been injured after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Bushehr province in south-west Iran

However, the nuclear plant has not been affected and is working normally, officials have said.

The quake was felt across the Gulf in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.

Some 10,000 people are thought to live in the affected area in more than 50 villages, two of which have reportedly been completely leveled.

The governor’s office has sent generators to the area so rescue operation can continue overnight.

Seismologists said the quake struck at 16:22 local time at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles) near the town of Kaki, south of Bushehr – a Gulf port city that is home to Iran’s first and only nuclear power plant.

Iran’s seismological centre in Bushehr province, linked to Tehran University, registered the quake at a magnitude of 6.1.

Tens of aftershocks – the strongest measuring a magnitude of 5.4 – struck within an hour, sending many people into the streets for safety.

One resident in Bushehr told Reuters news agency that they could “clearly feel the earthquake” but there was no damage.

State media reported that phone lines had been brought down by the quake and its aftershocks.

The earthquake shook buildings across the Gulf.

The governor of Bushehr, Fereydoun Hassanvand, told Iranian state TV that the nuclear plant was not damaged.

An official with the Russian firm Atomstroyexport told Russian media that the quake “in no way affected the normal situation at the reactor”.

“Personnel continue to work in the normal regime and radiation levels are fully within the norm,” the official was quoted by Russian state news agency Ria as saying.

Iran’s nuclear programme has roused concern among major powers that Tehran wants to build nuclear weapons – a charge Iran strongly denies.

Iran straddles a major geological fault line, making it prone to seismic activity. In 2003, an earthquake in the city of Bam left more than 25,000 people dead.

How to get fab abs in just six months

Lisa Rennison, a mother who shrunk from a size 18 to a size 6 in just six months by dramatically changing her lifestyle, has developed such a passion for keep-fit that she has become a fitness instructor.

Lisa Rennison, 40, from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, has kept 6 stone (84 lbs) off for 12 years by dedicating herself to a strict diet and gruelling exercise regime.

She now teaches ab-toning, spin, body combat, circuit training and body conditioning classes at three different gyms near her home.

Lisa Rennison cycles to and from work (a total of one hour every day, 70 miles per week) and runs two back-to-back hour-long classes at the gym, five or six days a week.

Her fab ab exercises:

  • Cycle crunches: Lie on your back with your legs in the air and spin them around while you roll side to side. It works on your obliques and your legs
  • Sit-up crunches: Lie on your back and lift your legs and your upper body – if you use weights too it’s even better
  • Full sit-ups: Lie down, bend your legs and keep them on the floor, and lift your whole upper body.
  • Jack Knife: Lying down and pulling your legs and arms up simultaneously.
  • V-Sit: Raise your legs straight in front of you and lift your upper body to meet them.
  • Russian Twists: Sit down, hold a ball, and turn your upper body from side to side with your feet on the ground
  • The Plank: Hold your body up, flat, in the air, on your elbows
  • Scissors: Lie on your back with your legs off the floor and scissor them.

Her current diet:

Breakfast: I always eat the same breakfast, a bowl of oats mixed with water and chopped fruit like strawberries, blueberries and bananas, plus two tablespoons of fat-free yoghurt and decaff tea

Snack: I drink lots of water, and if I have to snack I eat fruit, especially bananas which are good for energy, or apples celery and carrots which make you feel full

Lunch: A wholemeal pitta or roll with Quorn – I don’t eat a lot of meat – plus spices like chillies which speed up metabolism. I always eat loads of salad, vegetables and fruit, especially beetroot and chickpeas, plus a tiny bit of extra extra light mayonnaise or yoghurt

Dinner: Quorn meatballs with my own tomato sauce and vegetables. I also have wholewheat pasta – I don’t eat any white food. For dessert I’ll eat fruit.

Special treat: If I’m in the mood for something sweet I mix cocoa powder with yoghurt to make it really chocolatey and delicious.

North Korea boycotts Kaesong Industrial Complex as its workers fail to report for work

North Koreans workers have failed to report for work at Kaesong Industrial Complex, suspending one of the few points of co-operation between the two Koreas.

Kaesong Industrial Complex is a joint industrial park and there are more than 120 South Korean companies that operate there, employing 53,000 North Korean workers.

The complex is seen as a crucial source of hard currency for North Korea.

North Koreans workers have failed to report for work at Kaesong Industrial Complex

The move is the latest in a series of provocations that have raised tensions in the Korean peninsula and the region.

“As of now, no North Korean workers have reported to work this morning,” a spokesperson for the South Korean Unification Ministry said.

The ministry added that 77 South Korean workers would leave the zone on Tuesday, but 479 were still inside Kaesong.

Kaesong complex was launched in 2003 and was largely funded by South Korea.

Seoul has said the purpose of the complex was to develop a joint industrial park where South Korean companies could manufacture their products using North Korean labor.

It said that would help North Korea start to reform its economy, which is in a dire state, and ease tensions between the two Koreas.

South Korea has given incentives to companies to try and encourage them to set up operations there. These include political risk insurance to cover losses in their investment.

As a result, if the project is threatened, South Korea also tends to lose.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye said the boycott by North Korea would harm the country’s credibility.

“Investment is all about being able to anticipate results and trust and when you have the North breaking international regulations and promises like this and suspending Kaesong while the world is watching, no country in the world will invest in the North,” she told a cabinet meeting in Seoul.

“I don’t know what to do, honestly. I can’t simply tell my workers to leave or stay,” an executive from a South Korean clothing firm told the Reuters news agency.

“North Korean workers didn’t talk a lot, but they appeared to have complaints about Kaesong being closed,” the agency also quoted South Korean worker Sing Dong-chul as saying.

“They worried whether they would be working or not.”

Seen as a litmus test of relations on the Korean peninsula, Kaesong also provides hard currency for North Korea through taxes and workers’ wages.

South Korean companies pay more than $80 million a year in salaries. As a whole, the Kaesong complex produced $470 million worth of goods in 2012.

It accounts for nearly all inter-Korean trade.

For almost a decade the joint industrial zone has chugged on, through North Korean nuclear tests, rhetoric, and even military clashes with the South.

But now the last symbol of joint inter-Korean co-operation is effectively suspended.

North Korea has blocked access to South Koreans working there since Wednesday.

On Monday it said it would withdraw all its own employees and suspend operations in the zone. A decision would come later on whether it would shut it down for good.

North Korea has expressed anger at South Korean media reports that the North would not shut down Kaesong because its struggling economy is heavily dependent on the complex.

Margaret Thatcher’s death parties held on Bristol streets and across UK organized by Iron Lady critics

Former British PM Margaret Thatcher divides Britain in death as much as in life; while she was hailed by business leaders and former colleagues, ordinary people who suffered from her brutal policies were celebrating the Iron Lady’s death.

Hundreds took to the streets as macabre “Thatcher death parties” were held late across the country last night, organized by Baroness Thatcher’s critics.

In Bristol, seven police officers were injured – one seriously – as violence erupted at a street party of 200 people and officers were pelted with bottles, cans and rubbish.

Riot police were deployed in Brixton, south London, as the crowds, which had been drinking since 5 p.m., started to become more aggressive, while in Liverpool flares and fireworks were set off outside Lime Street Station.

Messages to organize the parties began flooding the internet minutes after the official announcement.

In Bristol police were called to Chelsea Road in the Easton area of the city during the early hours of today after violence erupted at a street party.

Trouble flared after midnight when a rowdy 200-strong crowd refused police requests to disperse.

Dozens of officers donned riot gear and used shields and batons as they were pelted with bottles, cans and rubbish.

Wheelie bins were set on fire by the mob and a police car was damaged by the flying missiles.

Some of the injured police needed hospital treatment and one male officer was still detained today with a neck injury.

One man was arrested for violent disorder and it took police more than two hours to restore calm.

It was not until 3 a.m. that most of the police units sent to the scene were stood down.

The party had started outside the Chelsea Inn in Easton, which is one of Bristol’s poorest and multi-cultural neighborhoods.

The air was thick with cannabis smoke as revelers toasted the death of Margaret Thatcher, chanting: “Maggie Thatcher, Maggie Thatcher, she’s not living anymore. She’s not living anymore.”

Some people drank champagne while others walked around in Margaret Thatcher masks and one man dressed up as the former PM.

Sound systems were set up in the street to fuel the party atmosphere and the trouble broke out when police tried to stop the music.

Unemployed Julian Styles, 58, who was made redundant from his factory job in 1984, said: “I’ve been waiting for that witch to die for 30 years.

“Tonight is party time. I’m drinking one drink for every year I’ve been out of work.”

Speaking to Stephen Nolan on BBC Radio Ulster, former PM Tony Blair said the celebrations of Margaret Thatcher’s death were in poor taste.

When asked if he worried there would be similar celebrations when he dies, Tony Blair said: “When you decide, you divide. I think she would be pretty philisophical about it and I hope I will be too.”

In Brixton, south London, two women were arrested on suspicion of looting a store and riot police were deployed as the crowds which had been drinking since 5 p.m. started to become more aggressive, refusing to let buses through the streets.

More than 300 people, including the young and old partied until late at night on the streets of London, clutching cans of cider and cartons of milk as they danced along to reggae and 1980s music.

Many children also attended the impromptu event with their parents some wearing fancy dress, fairy wings and clutching balloons.

The carnival-like celebrations also drew crowds who had no knowledge or interest in at Margaret Thatcher, but who wanted to join in with the revelry.

Brixton was the scene of intense rioting during her time as Prime Minster – the unrest was blamed on deep social divisions, racial tensions and unemployment.

At 11 p.m. last night, party-goers climbed the Ritzy Cinema to replace the billboard of films to say “Margaret Thatcher’s dead”.

They received cheers and applause from fellow revelers as they did so.

Later they added the words “LOL” (laugh out loud), followed by “Oh Aye”.

The two hooded men who covered their faces as they replaced the words on the Picture House cinema also attached a sign reading “the bitch is dead”.

The Ritzy Cinema said it had nothing to do with masked people and later tweeted its thanks to those who helped clean up broken letters and damage.

Pictures of anti-Thatcher graffiti scrawled on walls in Brixton also appeared on Twitter, with one reading: “You snatched my milk! & our hope.”

Banners were held stating “Rejoice Thatcher is dead” by drunken crowds, many of whom were too young to remember her as prime minister.

Sickening messages also began flooding the internet minutes after the official announcement.

Revelers danced the conga, drank champagne and chanted: “Maggie, Maggie, Maggie – Dead, Dead, Dead.”

Barnados charity shop was a casualty of the celebrations and this morning the store front had been left with a gaping hole in the glass.

Alex Bigham, a councilor in Lambeth representing Stockwell condemned the celebrations and said: “Even if you detested her policies, many of which I did, it is tasteless posturing.”

The Metropolitan Police said: “Police dealt with a group of approximately 100 people in Brixton who caused low level disorder including throwing missiles at officers.”

Police confirmed that two women were arrested on suspicion of burglary after being found inside a shop in Brixton. The shop front had been smashed.

Meanwhile, in Glasgow, more than 300 people gathered in the city centre for street party, organized on Twitter.

Members of organizations including the Anti-Bedroom Tax Federation, the Communist party, the Socialist party, the Socialist Workers party and the International Socialist Group, were joined by members of the public in the city’s George Square.

A chorus of “so long, the witch is dead”, along with chants of “Maggie Maggie Maggie, dead dead dead”, could be heard among the popping of champagne bottles.

In Leeds, people cheered and even handed out “Maggie death cake” at another of several street parties across the UK last night.

In west Belfast, a crowd assembled on the streets outside the Sinn Féin office in the Lower Falls road where music was played as people danced and passing motorists sounded their horns.

People were seen huddling in a crowd as they drank and sang to celebrate Margaret Thatcher’s death.

Petrol bombs were thrown at police near Free Derry corner amid celebrations and missiles were also used against the officers.

Martin McGuinness has called on people not to celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher.

Martin McGuinness, Sinn Fein’s Deputy First Minister at the Northern Ireland Assembly, tweeted: “Resist celebrating the death of Margaret Thatcher. She was not a peacemaker but it is a mistake to allow her death to poison our minds.”

Unionists like DUP First Minister Peter Robinson have praised Margaret Thatcher’s commitment to the Union but Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams accused her of pursuing “draconian, militaristic” policies which prolonged the conflict.

Margaret Thatcher funeral set for April 17 and to be attended by Queen Elizabeth II

Margaret Thatcher’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, April 17, Downing Street has announced today.

Former British PM Margaret Thatcher died on Monday, April 8, after suffering a series of strokes.

The funeral ceremony, with full military honors, will take place at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral, following a procession from Westminster.

Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, will attend the service, Buckingham Palace said.

Margaret Thatcher will not have a state funeral but will be accorded the same status as Princess Diana and the Queen Mother.

A ceremonial funeral is one rung down from a state funeral – normally reserved for monarchs – and requires the consent of the Queen.

A Downing Street spokesman said the details had been agreed at a “co-ordination meeting” between the Thatcher family and Buckingham Palace on Tuesday morning.

Baroness Thatcher, a Conservative, was Britain’s first female prime minister. She was in office from 1979 to 1990, winning three successive general elections.

She died “peacefully” after suffering a stroke while staying at the Ritz hotel in central London. Lady Thatcher had been staying at the hotel since being discharged from hospital at the end of last year.

An undertaker’s van carrying a silver casket left the hotel early on Tuesday morning for an undisclosed location.

Parliament will be recalled from its Easter recess this Wednesday to enable MPs and peers to pay tributes.

But Labour MP John Mann said: “I do not know why we are wasting taxpayers’ money on an additional session.

“It is perfectly valid that, when a prime minister dies, MPs can pay tribute, but this could be perfectly properly done on Monday.”

PM David Cameron has described Margaret Thatcher as a “great Briton” and international leaders, including US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have praised her.

Lady Thatcher was born Margaret Hilda Roberts, the daughter of a shopkeeper and Conservative councilor in Grantham, Lincolnshire, in 1925. She became an MP in 1959.

Having been education secretary, Margaret Thatcher successfully challenged former PM Edward Heath for her party’s leadership in 1975 and won general elections in 1979, 1983 and 1987.

Margaret Thatcher resigned as prime minister in 1990 and had been in poor health for several years prior to her death.

As she floated down the red carpet, her burgeoning belly was in full view in the gown, which was fitted at the bust and flowed out into a long train.

Halle Berry, who recently confirmed she is expecting a second baby, drew even more attention to her pregnancy figure by cradling her tummy as she posed for pictures.

The actress already appears to be benefitting from that pregnancy glow – her skin looking flawless with minimal make-up.

A pair of stunning diamond drop earrings completed her elegant look.

Halle Berry arrived in Argentina earlier in the day and was greeted by several men in suits as she headed inside her hotel.

Uhuru Kenyatta sworn in as Kenya’s new president

Uhuru Kenyatta has been sworn in as Kenya’s president after winning elections against Raila Odinga back in March.

Dignitaries and tens of thousands of people witnessed the inauguration at a stadium in the capital, Nairobi.

Raila Odinga did not attend the ceremony after his attempt to overturn Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in court failed.

Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, face charges at the International Criminal Court relating to post-election violence five years ago.

They were on opposite sides at the time and both deny the accusations.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who faces an ICC arrest warrant over the conflict in Darfur, was not in Nairobi for the inauguration.

Uhuru Kenyatta, 51, is the son of Kenya’s founding father, Jomo Kenyatta, and is heir to one of the largest fortunes in Kenya.

He served as deputy prime minister, minister for trade, and finance minister under outgoing President Mwai Kibaki

The crowd, waving Kenyan flags, burst into rapturous welcome as Uhuru Kenyatta took the oath of office, becoming Kenya’s youngest president.

In his inaugural address, Uhuru Kenyatta said he would govern for all Kenyans.

“We will leave no community behind… Where there’s disillusionment, we’ll restore hope,” he said.

The new government would abolish maternity fees in its first 100 days and children starting school next year would be given laptops, he added.

In an apparent reference to the ICC case against him, Uhuru Kenyatta said: “I assure you again that under my leadership, Kenya will strive to uphold our international obligations, so long as these are founded on the well-established principles of mutual respect and reciprocity.”

US and European diplomats attended the inauguration, despite warning before the election that they would have limited contact with Uhuru Kenyatta if he is voted into office.

Among the African leaders present for the inauguration were South Africa’s Jacob Zuma, Nigeria’s Goodluck Jonathan and Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni.

Yoweri Museveni told the cheering crowd that he wanted to applaud Kenyans for rejecting the “blackmail” of the ICC.

He supported the ICC when it was formed, but it was now being used by “arrogant actors” who were trying to “install leaders of their choice in Africa and eliminate those they don’t like”, he said.

Raila Odinga – the outgoing prime minister – did not attend the ceremony, choosing to be on holiday in South Africa instead.

Other senior members of his Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) party have also stayed away to signal their opposition to Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency, correspondents say.

According to official results, Uhuru Kenyatta beat Raila Odinga by 50.07% to 43.28% in March, avoiding a run-off by just 8,100 votes.

Raila Odinga challenged the result, but said he would respect the Kenyan Supreme Court’s ruling in Uhuru Kenyatta’s favor.

The election was Kenya’s first after a disputed poll in 2007, which led to violence that left more than 1,200 people dead.

Uhuru Kenyatta is due to appear at the ICC for his trial in The Hague later this year, accused of crimes against humanity. He denies the charges.

Kenya is a party to the Rome Statute, the treaty which established the ICC in 2002.

But like most African countries, it has refused to enforce the ICC warrant for Omar al-Bashir’s arrest.

After Omar al-Bashir visited Kenya in 2010, a Kenyan court ruled that the government must arrest him if he returned, in line with its international obligations under the Rome Statute.

The government is appealing against the ruling.

Amanda Bynes smokes suspicious cigarette after hitting gym in fishnets and wig

Amanda Bynes continued her bizarre behavior by openly smoking a suspicious-looking hand-rolled cigarette through Times Square on Monday.

TMZ reported earlier this year Amanda Bynes was evicted from her New York apartment for being a “building nuisance”, as neighbors complained about smelling marijuana smoke from her abode.

And according to the New York Post, Amanda Bynes was recently “asked to leave” an adult gymnastics class at Chelsea Piers.

The former child star reportedly stunned her classmates after showing up in “fishnets and a leotard that looked like lingerie”.

One witness said Amanda Bynes began acting strangely after her first visit to the gym a month ago.

“She lined up with the other gymnasts, and each took their turn to perform a roll. But Amanda just walked out on the mat, was spinning around in circles and mumbling to herself,” the source told Page Six.

Then later, the source saw Amanda Bynes do a cartwheel, “but her wig fell off, and she sat down and cried”.

They continued: “She went two weeks in a row, but the second time, she was escorted out. Staff were concerned about her manner and worried she might be a hazard to other people in the class.”

Meanwhile Amanda Bynes is so angry about the New York Post article she’s threatening legal action.

“I’m suing every blog saying I was kicked out of gymnastics. What is wrong w/ u people? What would u do if u found fake stories about u?” the actress tweeted to her 558,000 followers.

Amanda Bynes has admitted to having an eating disorder on her Twitter page.

Justin Bieber new haircut reminds of Miley Cyrus and Rihanna

Justin Bieber unveiled his new haircut at a meet and greet with fans over the weekend.

The last time Justin Bieber dramatically changed his haircut it cost him just over 80,000 followers on Twitter.

It appears that the 19-year-old singer may be expecting another large number of fans to abandon him after he unveiled his latest hairstyle.

Justin Bieber has ditched his spiked up quiff in favor of the all new look which features shaved sides with a swooping floppy quiff.

His hair, which was revealed on Saturday, bears a strong resemblance to both Rihanna and Miley Cyrus who famously sported the pixie-style cut in the past.

Justin Bieber’s cut has split his fans with some loving the new style and others openly hating it.

One of them said: “What the hell has justin bieber done to his hair. Officially don’t fancy him anymore.”

Another posted: “JUSTIN BIEBER WHY WOULD YOU CUT YOUR HAIR LIKE THIS!? #ew #why.”

Another follower added: “Justin Bieber’s new haircut reminds me of Miley Cyrus or Rihanna lol.”

One fan in favor of Justin Bieber’s new haircut said: “OMB, @justinbieber NEW HAIRCUT, CAN’T BREATH, HE LOOKING SO SFGGADKLJFKLDSJFKL PERFECT. THE HAIRFLIP IS BACK! OMFB!”

One reason for Justin Bieber’s trim may be down to him wanting a fresh start since splitting up with Selena Gomez earlier this year.

The teen idol has also been dogged with bad publicity after a disastrous stay in London during his world tour which included him threatening paparazzi and upsetting fans by being late on stage.

As well as being compared to Rihanna and Miley, Justin Bieber’s locks have been likened to his original and famous swoop bangs.

The singer takes his appearance very seriously and likes to switch up his image from time to time.

When speaking to Oprah Winfrey in 2012 about changing his quiff in favor of a spiked-do he said: “I liked my long hair, but I was getting tired of it. I wanted to change it up a little bit.”

In 2011 Justin Bieber raised $40,668 on eBay after he sold a clump of his hair to the highest bidder.

North Korea warns foreigners in South Korea to evacuate in case of war

0

In a new rhetoric, North Korea has warned foreign companies and tourists in South Korea to take evacuation measures in case of war.

This comes amid growing concern that North Korea may be about to launch its fourth missile test.

Pyongyang has been making bellicose threats against South Korea, Japan and US bases in the region.

Japan has deployed defensive anti-missile batteries at three locations in Tokyo, to protect the capital’s 30 million residents.

North Korea has warned foreign companies and tourists in South Korea to take evacuation measures in case of war

US-made Patriot anti-missile systems have been deployed at the defense ministry and at two other military bases.

“The government is making utmost efforts to protect our people’s lives and ensure their safety,” Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said.

“As North Korea keeps making provocative comments, Japan, co-operating with relevant countries, will do what we have to do,” he added.

At the end of last week Japan sent two of its most modern warships to the Sea of Japan with orders to shoot down any missiles fired by North Korea towards the Japanese islands.

Intelligence reports also suggest North Korea has moved two intermediate range missiles to its east coast in recent days.

Reports say no-one in Japan thinks Pyongyang is really preparing to attack.

But it may try to fire a missile over the top of Japan in to the Pacific Ocean. If it does Tokyo has made it clear it will shoot the missile down.

This is not the first time that Japan has taken such measures.

A statement attributed to Pyongyang’s Asia-Pacific Peace Committee said on Tuesday: “The situation on the Korean peninsula is heading for a thermo-nuclear war.

“In the event of war, we don’t want foreigners living in South Korea to get hurt.”

The statement urged “all foreign organizations, companies and tourists to work out measures for evacuation”.

Last Friday, Pyongyang warned it would not be able to guarantee the safety of embassy staff in the event of a war.

No foreign embassies immediately announced plans to evacuate, and the UK and Russian embassies have said they have no immediate plans to shut their embassies.

The US, which has also been threatened by North Korea, has said there were no imminent signs of threats to American citizens.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth advice on travel to South Korea was that there was “no immediate increased risk or danger to those living in or travelling to South Korea” as a result of the North Korean warning last Friday.

Tuesday’s warning to foreigners in South Korea is the latest step in the escalation of tension on the Korean peninsula.

North Korean employees on Tuesday did not report for work at the Kaesong Industrial Complex, suspending one of the few points of co-operation between North and South Korea.

The UN imposed tough sanctions on North Korea last month following its third nuclear test.

Pyongyang has responded to this and to joint military exercises between South Korea and the US with escalating rhetoric. It has threatened to use nuclear weapons and said it would restart a nuclear reactor.

North Korea has also shut down an emergency military hotline between Seoul and Pyongyang.

Will Margaret Thatcher’s funeral be attended by the Queen?

Queen Elizabeth II is often said to have had a less than easy relationship with former premier Margaret Thatcher, her eighth – and longest-serving – prime minister.

Born six months apart, Margaret Thatcher and the Queen were two women very much making their mark in a man’s world.

Always mindful of her constitutional role and cordial to the last, the British monarch is nevertheless said to have personally disagreed with some of Margaret Thatcher’s more divisive policies and privately expressed her alarm over issues such as unemployment and the miners’ strike.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman issued a statement on Monday saying the Queen was “sad to hear the news of the death of Baroness Thatcher” and would be sending a private message of sympathy to her family.

Born six months apart, Margaret Thatcher and the Queen were two women very much making their mark in a man's world
Born six months apart, Margaret Thatcher and the Queen were two women very much making their mark in a man’s world

However, there was no confirmation that the Queen would attend the funeral (as she did for Sir Winston Churchill, although that was a state occasion), despite having no public engagements in her diary for either Wednesday or Thursday next week.

Instead, a spokesman said the Queen was “waiting for details about the funeral arrangements from the Government”. While Her Majesty may have found her first female prime minister somewhat frosty, Lady Thatcher’s respect and admiration for the monarch knew no bounds, not least because she had been raised in an intensely patriotic family.

Margaret Thatcher once told author Gyles Brandreth that the talk of a strained relationship with the Queen was “a lot of nonsense” and spoke with admiration about her commitment to the Commonwealth and armed services.

“No one could curtsey lower than Margaret Thatcher,” said another former aide.

Inevitably, after 11 years of almost weekly meetings, the Queen and Margaret Thatcher reached something akin to friendship.

Margaret Thatcher was even said to have jokingly sent the monarch a pair of rubber gloves as a Christmas present after witnessing her doing the washing up following a barbecue at Balmoral without a pair. Other sources say it wasn’t that the two women did not like each other, they were simply very different people.

The Queen is dry and rather witty in private, while Margaret Thatcher always had a tendency to hector, regardless of her audience.

In 1986, their relationship was put under the spotlight when The Sunday Times reported sources close to the Queen saying she was “dismayed” by “uncaring” Margaret Thatcher’s refusal to impose sanctions on apartheid South Africa, a decision the monarch feared would split the Commonwealth.

The story caused uproar. The Queen is required constitutionally to keep her opinions private. The quotes were subsequently attributed to the Palace’s press secretary, Michael Shea. The monarch is said to have rung Margaret Thatcher to reassure her that her views were nothing of the sort.

If the relationship was never entirely easy, the two certainly never wavered in their mutual respect. The Queen, in particular, is said to have admired Margaret Thatcher’s grit, determination and enormous achievements.

After Margaret Thatcher’s enforced resignation in 1990, the Queen awarded the baroness the Order of Garter and the Order of Merit – neither of which has been offered to Tony Blair.

The Queen was also a guest of honor at Margaret Thatcher’s 80th birthday celebrations.

Fellow guests were touched at the sight of the Queen taking the hand of Margaret Thatcher as she gently raised her from a deep curtsey, before guiding the already frail baroness through the throng of assembled guests.

Margaret Thatcher Funeral: cortege route and procession details

Former British PM Margaret Thatcher will be given a ceremonial funeral with full military honors at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Margaret Thatcher’s funeral service is expected to take place next week, and will be similar in status to those accorded to the Queen Mother and Princess Diana.

Many members of Parliament have called for Iron Lady to be given a state funeral, as was given to former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, but that was against her own wishes.

Margaret Thatcher’s spokesman and friend, Lord Bell, has said that Britain’s first female PM “specially did not want state funeral, and nor did her family”.

“She particularly did not wish to lie in state as she thought that was not appropriate,” Lord Bell said.

“And she did not want a fly-past as she thought that was a waste of money – somewhat in character you might think.”

Details of the ceremonial funeral with military honors are understood to have been mapped out in talks between government officials and Baroness Thatcher more than five years ago.

Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and Nancy Reagan, wife of her closest ally US President Ronald Reagan, are expected to lead a list of international mourners.

Margaret Thatcher did request a central role for The Chelsea Pensioners at her funeral. The Army veterans will not only welcome her coffin when it arrives at St Paul’s, but will also benefit from donations made in her memory – her family have requested that, instead of flowers.

The day before the funeral takes place, Margaret Thatcher’s coffin will be moved to the chapel of St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Westminster. There will be a short service following its arrival and the coffin will rest there overnight.

The following day, the streets will be cleared before the coffin travels by hearse to the Church of St Clement Danes, the central church for the RAF, on the Strand. There it will be transferred to a gun carriage drawn by horses of the King’s Troop of the Royal Artillery, the Queen’s ceremonial Saluting Battery.

Lady Thatcher’s funeral cortege will pass through Whitehall, Trafalgar Square and along the Strand, round Aldwych and then up Ludgate Hill to St Paul’s. Serving members of all three Armed Forces will line the route, alongside an expected crowd of tens of thousands of people.

At the steps of St Paul’s, the coffin will be met by another Guard of Honour and the Chelsea Pensioners. Members of the three services will then bear the coffin into St Paul’s for the funeral service.

As well as friends and family of Margaret Thatcher, politicians who served in her cabinet are expected to attend the service alongside current cabinet members. It is not yet known whether the Queen will be attending.

After the service, there will be a private cremation service in Mortlake, south-west London. It is understood that Margaret Thatcher wished to be laid to rest alongside her husband, Denis, who died in 2003, in the cemetery of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Serbia: 13 people die in gun rampage in Velika Ivanca

Twelve adults and a child have been killed in Serbia after a man went on a gun rampage in Velika Ivanca, a village near Belgrade, local media report.

Six men, six women and a two-year-old boy died before the gunman tried to kill himself and his wife. They are now said to be in a serious condition.

Police identified the gunman as Ljubisa Bogdanovic, a 60-year-old war veteran.

The victims were reported to be relatives and neighbors of Ljubisa Bogdanovic, and included his mother and son.

The shootings took place in several houses in Velika Ivanca, about 50 km (30 miles) south-east of capital Belgrade at about 5 a.m. local time.

Local residents said the gunman, armed with a 9 mm handgun, killed his son before leaving the house and shooting dead neighbors, some of whom were still asleep.

“He knocked on the doors, and as they were opened he just fired a shot,” villager Radovan Radosavljevic was quoted by the Associated Press as saying.

“He was a good neighbor and anyone would open their doors to him. I don’t know what happened.”

All but one of the victims died instantly, police said.

Serbian police chief Milorad Veljovic, who is at the scene, told RTS that the gunman was “from a peaceful family and had no criminal record”.

“We’re all just stunned,” Milorad Veljovic said.

Ljubisa Bogdanovic is reported to have been made redundant last year. He fought as a Serb soldier in the war in Croatia in 1991.

The motive for the attack was not immediately clear.

In a similar attack in Serbia in 2007, a 39-year-old man shot dead nine people and injured two others in a village in the east of the country.

Leukemia origins tracked back to the womb

0

The root genetic cause of leukaemia has been traced back to early life in the womb, scientists say.

Experts from the Institute of Cancer Research in London, UK, analyzed the entire three billion letter sequence of DNA-coding in identical twins to reveal what sets off the disease.

Researchers hope the findings, published in PNAS journal, could lead to new drugs to fight the condition at source.

Leukaemia is the most common cancer diagnosed in children.

The root genetic cause of leukaemia has been traced back to early life in the womb
The root genetic cause of leukaemia has been traced back to early life in the womb

Researchers studied twins studied that had the most common form of leukaemia that affects children – acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), which is a cancer of the white blood cells.

It is already known that multiple faulty genes are linked to the condition and that environmental factors probably act as triggers along the way. But the precise sequence of events leading up to a diagnosis of ALL is unclear.

The scientists wanted to find out more about the disease so that, ultimately, a better treatment could be found.

Although ALL is often curable, the medicines used to treat it can cause unpleasant and sometimes severe side effects.

Prof. Mel Greaves and his colleagues decided to study identical twins who shared the same DNA inherited from their parents.

Both twins developed ALL in early childhood, at around four years of age.

By comparing blood and bone marrow samples of the twins in later childhood, the researchers found one genetic mutation identical in both twins – a common leukaemia-causing gene called ETV6-RUNX1.

The scientists reason that this mutation must have arisen in one of the twins while in the womb.

Cells carrying the mutation then spread to the other twin via their shared placental blood circulation.

The identical twins had a total of 22 other mutations, but none of these mutations was shared by both twins, and so they must have accumulated after birth as the disease progressed, say the researchers.

Study co-author Prof. Mel Greaves said: “We were able to sequence the entire human genome. It told us for the first time that this is the key mutation that starts the whole process of leukaemia. The other mutations must have happened after birth.”

Barack Obama in tears as he urges Congress to vote gun control bill during Connecticut speech

President Barack Obama made an emotional plea as he urged lawmakers to vote on gun control legislation that appears to be stalling in Congress.

Speaking in Connecticut where 26 people died in Sandy Hook massacre last year, President Barack Obama said citizens must demand action.

Opinion polls have shown a majority of Americans support a ban on assault weapons and other gun control measures.

But gun rights groups, including the National Rifle Association (NRA), have been lobbying politicians against the bill.

President Barack Obama made an emotional plea as he urged lawmakers to vote on gun control legislation that appears to be stalling in Congress

“The day Newtown happened was the toughest day of my presidency,” Barack Obama said in his speech at Hartford, not far from Newtown, scene of the mass shooting four months ago.

“But I’ve got to tell you, if we don’t respond to this, that’ll be a tough day for me too.”

The Associated Press news agency reports there were tears in Barack Obama’s eyes as he described Newtown parent Nicole Hockley, who has said every night she asks her 6-year-old son Dylan to come to her in her dreams so she can see him again.

“If there’s even one thing we can do to prevent a father from having to bury his child, isn’t that worth fighting for?” Barack Obama asked, amid repeated standing ovations from the crowd.

He called for a vote on his three gun legislation priorities – strengthening background checks on gun buyers, limiting the size of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds, and a ban on assault weapons.

However, the US Senate recently ditched the proposed ban on assault weapons and on high-capacity magazines, saying there was not enough support for the measure.

On Monday, Barack Obama said curbing gun violence was more important than partisan politics.

“Connecticut, this is not about me,” he said.

“This is not about politics.

“This is about doing the right thing for all the families who are here that have been torn apart by gun violence.”

Eleven parents of young children who were killed in the Newtown school shooting returned to Washington DC with Barack Obama aboard his official plane, Air Force One.

They are due to lobby members of Congress who have not yet backed the gun control bill.

Barack Obama said: “Nothing’s going to be more important in making sure that the Congress moves forward this week than hearing from them.”

The president criticized Republicans who have threatened to use a procedural tactic known as a filibuster to delay a vote on the gun bill.

Thirteen senators have said in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid they would take such action, after he brought the bill to the Senate floor for debate on Monday.

“Some back in Washington are already floating the idea that they may use political stunts to prevent votes on any of these reforms. Think about that,” said Barack Obama.

“They’re not just saying they’ll vote <<no>> on ideas that almost all Americans support.

“They’re saying they’ll do everything they can to even prevent any votes on these provisions. They’re saying your opinion doesn’t matter. And that’s not right.”

Barack Obama’s speech came a week after Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy signed sweeping gun-control measures into law.

Connecticut follows the states of Colorado and New York in passing tighter state gun laws.

Mary Jo White confirmed as new head of SEC

Mary Jo White has been confirmed by the US Senate as the new head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the body that regulates Wall Street.

Former federal prosecutor Mary Jo White was nominated in January by President Barack Obama to replace SEC chairman Mary Schapiro after she stepped down.

Mary Jo White, 65, built a reputation as a tough crime-fighter serving as attorney for the Southern District of New York.

She spent almost 10 years as the Southern District attorney.

Mary Jo White assumes her new role at a critical time for Wall Street, with new rules and regulations being introduced following the financial crisis. But the Senate confirmation only allows for her to complete the remainder of Mary Schapiro’s 5-year term, which ends in June 2014.

There had been some concern about Mary Jo White’s time as a lawyer in private practice representing big corporations. However, she has pledged to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

Mary Jo White told the Senate Banking Committee last month that she would aggressively pursue enforcement and hold accountable “all wrongdoers, individual and institutional, of whatever position or size”.

Richard Branson lifts his kilt to reveal pants bearing slogan as he promotes Virgin in Scotland

Richard Branson lifted up his kilt to the watching crowd to reveal pants bearing the slogan “stiff competition” as he stepped off the first Virgin plane at Edinburgh airport from Heathrow.

The Virgin Atlantic president performed his latest publicity stunt as he promoted his company’s expansion into Scotland.

“Stiff competition” alluded to Richard Branson’s newly launched domestic service, Little Red, which will now offer Virgin flights between Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and London, in direct competition with British Airways.

Richard Branson – who had a Scottish grandmother and is married to a Glaswegian – stood on an elevated platform on the windy runway and said it was “great to be in Edinburgh” before he exposed his underwear to a crowd which included Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Speaking after the stunt, the billionaire said he was “enjoying wearing a kilt”.

“Despite the weather it is nice to have a bit of fresh air and it is very comfortable,” he added.

“I’ve got to the age where it is wise to always wear something under my kilt- especially in weather like this.”

This is not the first time Richard Branson has resorted to such uncouth publicity stunts.

The new Little Red service launched yesterday will be the first time Virgin Atlantic has operated connecting flights from Scottish destinations, and Richard Branson said he was “excited” to have been given the airport slots that came available after domestic airline British Midlands was forced out of business.

“We are delighted that we managed to pick up these slots as it means we can offer stiff competition to British Airways,” he said.

“There are a lot of people from around the world who love to fly to Edinburgh and Aberdeen and now we can finally now compete properly with BA and give people the opportunity to travel up here with Virgin.

“I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Scotland.”

The expanded Virgin Atlantic service will create 130 new jobs in Scotland, and is expected to generate £75 million ($118 million) in revenue for the Scottish economy.

Speaking yesterday, Richard Branson said that while he was “thrilled” that Virgin had finally been allowed to expand services to Edinburgh and Aberdeen, he was unhappy that they had been prevented from operating out of Glasgow.

“I would love to be flying to Glasgow as well, but for some bizarre reason the competition authorities, who bequeathed us these slots, didn’t allow us to have the slots to compete with British airways out of Glasgow,” he said.

After reporting losses of up to £135 million ($212 million) over the past two years, Richard Branson and Virgin Atlantic’s new Chief Executive, Craig Kreeger, said that the new domestic service was just one part of the company’s plans to push its finances back into the black.

And despite his brazen publicity stunt, Richard Branson was insistent that he would remain on neutral ground over the question of Scottish Independence.

“If Scotland becomes independent they will have an airline that will be delighted to connect them to their neighboring country and if it stays part of Great Britain, we will be equally delighted to have Scottish people use our services to take visits down to little old England,” said Richard Branson.

Either way, Virgin will stay independent of this particular debate.”

Michelle Obama already tired of her bangs

First Lady Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of her bangs she debuted in January.

Michelle Obama said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: “Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They’re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.”

The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when daughter Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother’s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Malia Obama gently smoothed her mother’s hair for the cameras, then leaned in to kiss her on the cheek.

Michelle Obama’s new haircut made headlines when it was first debuted in January, even managing to overshadow the President’s inauguration weekend.

Barack Obama jokingly announced at the start of the festivities: “To address the most significant event of the weekend, I love her bangs.”

The hairstyle became such a talking point that one fan even created a Twitter account called MichellesBangs.

But it appears what at first was a novelty has turned into a burden for Michelle Obama, who has grown tired of her high-maintenance hairstyle.

“It’s fun but you know, I’m like a girl, what’s next?” the First Lady said to the interviewer.

While her husband has been supportive throughout, not everybody been a fan of Michelle Obama’s hair change; designer Karl Lagerfield, for example, famously described them as “a bad idea”.

Kim Kardashian vs. Kate Middleton Pregnant Fashion Style

Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian are two of the most glamorous women in the world and each will give birth to her first child in July.

But…When it comes to maternity style any similarities between the royal and the reality star ends there.

Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian are two of the most glamorous women in the world and each will give birth to her first child in July

Kate Middleton, 31, has always been the epitome of elegance and at six months is still svelte, with a barely-visible Royal bump. She has also stayed loyal to her classic dress style, favoring demure wrap dresses and beautifully tailored coats.

Kim Kardashian, 32, appears to have taken it less easily in her high-heeled stride.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, who is expecting her first baby from rapper Kanye West, always favored fitted outfits which flaunt her curves. Now Kim Kardashian has tried a more subdued style and the result is meltdown.

In ill-fitting shifts, skirts and skyscraper heels, Kim Kardashian looks mumsy and clumsy.

Up to now… Kim Kardashian so badly lost out to Kate Middleton in the battle of the bumps.

Is Hillary Clinton running for president in 2016?

Chelsea Clinton says she simply wants her mother to take it easy as speculation swirls over whether Hillary Clinton will run for the White House in 2016.

“Right now, I want her to rest,” Chelsea Clinton said in an interview with Parade magazine.

“Ultimately I want her to make whatever she thinks is the right decision. I always want to help her in any way I can, because I unapologetically and unabashedly am deeply biased toward my mother.”

Hillary Clinton, 65, has said she has no plans for a second presidential bid, but she hasn’t ruled it out. She stepped down as Secretary of State in February.

Chelsea Clinton, 33, has been a loyal supporter and advocate for her mother, appearing at her side throughout her ultimately failed bid for the Democratic nomination in 2008.

Democrats argue among themselves whether Hillary Clinton has the desire and energy to go through the grueling campaign process she knows so well.

However, many see Hillary Clinton as a prohibitive favorite whose head start would be so big that other potential candidates might starve for funds and attention.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll in January found that 67% of Americans held a favorable view of Hillary Clinton, which is her highest rating since the poll began measuring her popularity in the 1990s.

The poll has been held through Hillary Clinton time as First Lady, her eight years in the Senate representing New York and her time as Secretary of State.

“It’s hard to overstate the breadth and depth of enthusiasm for a Hillary run,” said Doug Hattaway, a former campaign aide of Hillary Clinton and now a Washington-based consultant.

Hillary Clinton built a national base of supporters in 2008, when she lost a hard-fought nomination fight to Barack Obama, and she’s widely respected after her turn heading the State Department, Doug Hattaway said.

“A lot of donors, volunteers and potential campaign workers will wait to hear what she decides before committing to other candidates,” he said, although “anyone with their eye on 2016 is already working on it.”

Mo Elleithee, a top spokesman for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign, said it’s much too early to know.

“My advice to everyone is to chill out,” Mo Elleithee said.

“There’s no need for all this breathless anticipation at this point.”

In the Parade interview, Chelsea Clinton also spoke out about how her grandmother, Dorothy Rodham, encouraged her to get involved with her family’s work.

“She thought I wasn’t doing enough with the opportunity I’d been given to be Chelsea Clinton,” Chelsea Clinton said.

“I’d chosen to kind of live in the recesses, to work very hard and try to be a good person.

“I hadn’t planned on or expected to have a public dimension in my life. But I was starting to feel like I had a responsibility to at least try to make more of a difference.”

Halle Berry admits she didn’t expect to fall pregnant at her age

In a recent interview with CNN, Halle Berry admitted that she didn’t expect to fall pregnant at her age.

Halle Berry, 46, who already has 5-year-old daughter Nahla with her former boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, said: “This has been the biggest surprise of my life, to tell you the truth. Thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful.”

When asked to confirm if she was expecting a boy, the actress said: “I don’t know, I don’t know. But [the baby is] healthy!”

Halle Berry announced a philanthropic campaign Monday called Watch Hunger Stop that includes raising money through the sale of a version of Michael Kors’ best-selling Runway watch. For each $295 watch sold, 100 meals will be provided to children through the U.N. World Food Programme.

Halle Berry and Michael Kors are planning to visit places together where the meals will be sent. They could land in Africa, in Syria, perhaps Central America.

The actress, who is expecting her first child with fiancé Olivier Martinez, said in an exclusive joint interview Saturday with Michael Kors: “I hope we go while I’m pregnant, so I can talk about prenatal care.”

Robert Kardashian Diary: Ellen Kardashian sued by Kris Jenner and Kardashian siblings for copyright infringement

Ellen Kardashian, Robert Kardashian’s widow, is being sued by Kris Jenner and the Kardashian siblings for copyright infringement.

The reality stars filed a lawsuit in Federal Court in Los Angeles last week against Ellen Kardashian.

They claim Ellen Kardashian “sold their property, such as family photos and writings, to a publishing outlet this past January”.

“Today’s filing should serve as notice that they will vigorously defend their rights when forced to do so,” the Kardashians’ lawyer Marty Singer told The Hollywood Reporter.

The items are said to detail the Kardashians’ lives before they found fame and have featured in magazines Life & Style and In Touch.

Ellen Kardashian, Robert Kardashian's widow, is being sued by Kris Jenner and the Kardashian siblings for copyright infringement
Ellen Kardashian, Robert Kardashian’s widow, is being sued by Kris Jenner and the Kardashian siblings for copyright infringement

The February 4 issue of In Touch magazine featured an article titled “The Secret Kardashian Diaries” while Life & Style magazine included a piece with the headline: “Feature on the life struggles of the Kardashians including Khloé Kardashian”.

Ellen married Robert Kardashian two months before he died of cancer in 2003 after dating for around five years.

The widow is alleged to have retained some of her husband’s possessions including his diary and family photographs and licensed portions of the diaries to Bauer Publishing, which owns the magazines.

In their lawsuit, Kris Jenner and Kardashian siblings accuse Ellen Kardashian of a “despicable and unlawful scheme to hold in secret and convert, and now exploit… private personal and copyright protected” material.

The complaint alleges that Robert Kardashian bequeathed the “bulk of his personal tangible and intangible property” to his four children, including Robert Kardashian Jr.

The Kardashians claim that the diary and family photo albums are “incontestably” their inheritance and property.

They allege that Ellen Kardashian has kept her late husband’s belongings “with the express intent to one-day capitalize and exploit the valuable property and celebrity of the famous Robert Kardashian”.

Kris Jenner and her children are now requesting their return.

When Ellen Kardashian filed for bankruptcy back in 2010, she was required to list all assets and property of value but did not list her possession or ownership of the diaries or photographs.

The new lawsuit alleges that Ellen Kardashian cannot claim “any ownership interest” because she failed to disclose the items in the bankruptcy process.

The publication of excerpts of Robert Kardashian’s diary in the magazines was, according to the lawsuit, an effort by Ellen to “peddle and exploit, and disclosed to tabloid and other media, the private and valuable personal papers of Robert Kardashian”.

It asserts that the widow was paid for an interview and provided purported rights to the photographs.

The siblings are now demanding at least $500,000 in damages.

The new filing appears to be somewhat of an about turn from the Kardashians who called into question the existence of the diaries when excerpts were first published.

The family’s representative released a statement, saying: “We have no knowledge of these diaries existing and these accusations are ridiculous and not true.”

Ellen Kardashian received volleys of insults from the sisters after she leaked the diaries she claimed were penned by the late lawyer, in which he says their mother Kris Jenner was guilty of physically abusing Kim.

In the diaries, Robert Kardashian supposedly claims Kris Jenner, 57, kicked, beat and threatened to kill Kim as their 12-year marriage collapsed.

Ellen Kardashian has previously claimed her late husband was not the biological father of Khloe.

She said during an interview: “These are authentic handwritten journals I have shared, that my late husband Robert Kardashian so carefully wrote during 1989 and 1990 at a most trying and touching time of his life. They are my personal possession and he left them to me on his passing.”

Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel attacked by Femen activists in Germany

Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were confronted by Femen activists in Hanover, Germany.

Femen activists, who strip off to highlight a range of issues, including women’s rights, press freedom and domestic violence were dragged kicking and screaming from the premises by security guards.

As one women tried to push through to Vladimir Putin she was blocked by his aides – her back was painted with words directed against the Russian president.

The members of the women’s rights group Femen, which has staged protests against Russia’s detention of the feminist punk band Pussy Riot around Europe, appeared as Vladimir Putin visited a trade fair in Hanover with Angela Merkel.

Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel were confronted by topless Femen activists in Hanover
Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel were confronted by topless Femen activists in Hanover

They stripped off to the waist and shouted slogans calling Vladimir Putin a “dictator” before being covered up and bundled away by security men.

However, a smiling Vladimir Putin shrugged off the protest and said: “As for the action, I liked it.”

“You should be grateful to the girls, they are helping you make the fair more popular.”

But Angela Merkel was not amused, saying: “Whether one has to resort to such an emergency measure in Germany and can’t say one’s piece some other way, I have my doubts.”

It seems that the Kremlin were not so impressed by the demonstration as Vladimir Putin.

“This is ordinary hooliganism and unfortunately it happens all over the world, in any city. One needs to punish [them],” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Vladimir Putin’s arrival at the trade fair on Sunday also drew protesters, some of whom were dressed in striped prison uniforms.

“Stop political terror,” read one banner.

Angela Merkel told Vladimir Putin in a speech at the fair on Sunday that Russia needed “an active civil society” including freedom for non-governmental organizations, after a wave of controversial state inspections of foreign-funded NGOs in Russia.

The German chancellor had promised to raise what she called “controversial subjects” with the Russian leader, after coming under pressure to voice Berlin’s unease over the crackdown on NGOs, Moscow’s support of the Syrian government and its criticism of the German-orchestrated financial bailout of Cyprus.

Femen was founded in Kiev in 2008 to protest against Ukraine’s booming sex industry. At their first demonstration members appeared clothed carrying banners reading “Ukraine is not a brothel!”.

Femen has since gone from strength to strength with 150,000 members worldwide and branches across Europe and even in highly conservative countries such as Egypt.

Michelle Obama calls herself a single mother while Barack Obama calls Kamala Harris an attractive woman

During a televised interview last week First Lady Michelle Obama accidentally called herself a single mother.

Michelle Obama was talking about healthy foods as part of her ongoing Let’s Move! initiative and made the slip when she was discussing how the demands of raising a family can leave little time for nutritious cooking in a CBS interview.

First Lady Michelle Obama accidentally called herself a single mother

“Believe me, as a busy single mother,” Michelle Obama said, before quickly correcting herself: “Or I shouldn’t say single – as a busy mother.”

Michelle Obama’s remarks came the same day that the President was criticized for remarking that California’s Kamala Harris is the ‘best looking attorney general’ in the country.

Though Michelle Obama did not comment on her husband’s gaffe, she did try explaining her slip-up by adding: “Sometimes, you know when you’ve got the husband who’s president it can feel a little single. But he’s there.”

Though Barack Obama is obviously busy, leaving much of the child-rearing on Michelle’s shoulders, she does have a good idea about what she is talking about.

When Barack Obama was a Senator and living in Washington, D.C. during the work week, Michelle raised the two young girls on her own in Chicago.
