Tom Stilwell survives 15th floor fall in New Zealand

Tom Stilwell from UK has survived a fall from the 15th floor of a building in New Zealand, local media report.

Tom Stilwell fell from his neighbor’s balcony in his apartment block in Auckland at 02:00 local time on Sunday, reports said.

Police said the 20-year-old man discovered he was locked out of his 14th floor unit in the Volt Apartment building in downtown Auckland.

He had been trying to lower himself onto his balcony, which was directly below his neighbor’s.

Tom Stilwell decided to try and scale down the outside of the building from an apartment directly above his. Police said he was trying to land on his balcony when he fell, landing on the roof of an adjacent building far below.

He was at first listed in critical condition but had improved Monday to a satisfactory condition.

Tom Still’s friends said that he had bone fractures and internal injuries, but was “fine” and “a very lucky man”.

He is said to be in New Zealand on a working holiday.

Tom Stilwell discovered he was locked out of his flat early on Sunday, and asked a neighbor if he could climb down from her balcony into his flat, his friends said.

The neighbor, Geraldine Bautista, told the New Zealand Herald that Tom Stilwell was “a little tipsy” but polite.

“I wasn’t scared of him – he just requested <<Can you please let me jump off from the balcony? I will not bother you, just let me use your balcony>>.”

“I never thought he would really do that. In my mind I thought <<Okay, I’ll just let you see that it’s really impossible>>. I didn’t think he’d jump, because it’s really scary.”

However, he quickly pulled himself over the balcony railing before she could stop him, Geraldine Bautista said.

Tom Stilwell’s fall was broken by the roof of an adjacent building, reportedly some 13 floors below.

Dr. Tony Smith, a medical director at St John, an emergency healthcare organization, told the New Zealand Herald that a person’s chances of survival were increased if they were able to break their fall on something.

However, “survival from falls of that height are extraordinarily unusual”, but that the roof of the low-rise building far below likely broke Tom Stilwell’s fall enough to save his life, he said.

Kim Kardashian suffers severe pain from stomach infection before giving birth

Kim Kardashian gave birth to a healthy baby girl on Saturday, but the latest episode of her reality TV show proved her pregnancy was far from easy.

Kim Kardashian, 32, was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe stomach pain in Sunday’s episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Viewers saw distraught Kim Kardashian reduced to tears and in agony as she jetted into Los Angeles amid fears she had appendicitis.

And the pain was so extreme Kim Kardashian even said she did not want to go through another pregnancy.

“It was a really painful flight, it hurt so badly. I can hardly walk,” a tearful Kim told mother Kris Jenner on the show.

“I just don’t understand it just hurts so bad, it kills,” said Kim Kardashian as she was examined by her doctor.

“It feels like I am in labor. Why is this happening to me? I hate it, I can never do this again.”

But all was well as the doctor found the baby with a healthy heartbeat.

“I am just so relieved the baby is okay,” said Kim Kardashian.

After blood tests doctors told Kim Kardashian that she could have appendicitis and that she might face a risky operation.

But a second battery of tests revealed that she just had a stomach infection.

“For her to be in this much pain scares me so much. I want her to relish this pregnancy it is the most amazing experience and I feel she is just not having that yet,” said Kris Jenner.

“If labor is worse than this I will hang myself, I will literally take a knife and s**t my throat” said Kim Kardashian.

In the episode Kim Kardashian finally managed to get her deposition done for her divorce to Kris Humphries.

“My divorce has definitely been dragging on for a while now and Kanye and I want it to be done by the time the baby gets here,” admitted a frustrated Kim Kardashian.

“I really do not want to be married while I give birth to our baby. I have been trying to get it done for a year-and-a-half now.

“I am just so bothered and sad over this situation.”

Before her deposition Kim Kardashian revealed she still cares about Kris Humphries, despite not talking him for so long.

“At our lunch break I am going to want to talk to him and say: <<It literally never had to get like this>>,” said Kim Kardashian.

“I like, loved you, I still do, you were a big part of my life. But you know we are not meant to be together, you weren’t happy, I wasn’t happy, we should have never rushed into it. It doesn’t mean we can’t like be friends.”

“I have not spoken to Kris for a year and a half, I am anxious see Kris, I hope this will maybe give him and I an understanding of his feelings and my feelings as we have not spoken in so long.”

But Kris Humphries did not show up and Kim Kardashian was “relieved” she was moving forward with the divorce.

Istanbul mass rally for PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan amid new clashes

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rallied tens of thousands of supporters in Istanbul, telling them it was his duty to clear a city square that has been the focus of anti-government unrest.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan denied he was a dictator, criticized foreign media and vowed to “identify one by one those who have terrorized the streets”.

Unrest has continued in Ankara and Istanbul, with police firing tear gas.

Two trade union groups have called a one-day nationwide strike for Monday.

Baki Cinar, a spokesman for one of the groups, Kesk, told AFP news agency: “Our demand is for police violence to end immediately.”

The protests in Turkey began on May 28 against a plan to redevelop Istanbul’s Gezi Park, but snowballed into nationwide anti-government protests after the perceived high-handed response of the authorities under their three-term prime minister.

Medical officials estimate that 5,000 people have been injured and at least four killed since the protests began.

The rally in support of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Islamist-rooted ruling party, the Justice and Development Party (AKP), was held in the Kazlicesme district, about 6 miles from central Istanbul.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan defended Saturday’s police action to clear Istanbul’s Taksim Square and nearby Gezi Park, saying: “I said we were at an end. That it was unbearable. Yesterday the operation was carried out and it was cleaned up. It was my duty as prime minister.”

He criticized the international press and social media for the coverage of the unrest, urging them to be ethical and honest.

“If the international media want a picture of Turkey, the picture is here,” he said.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan denied being an authoritarian leader and said the protests had been manipulated by “terrorists”.

He said: “They say <<you are too tough>>, they say <<dictator>>. What kind of a dictator is this who met the Gezi Park occupiers and honest environmentalists. Is there such dictator?

“The attitude across Turkey with the pretext of Taksim’s Gezi Park is not sincere. It is nothing more than the minority’s attempt to dominate the majority… We could not have allowed this and we will not allow it.”

Gezi Park ctivists have called on protesters to return to Taksim Square but it is now cordoned off by police.

There have been sporadic clashes in surrounding areas, with police firing tear gas and water cannon.

Istanbul’s governor, Huseyin Avni Mutlu, said the public would not be allowed into the square, adding that it would be “unsafe” for protesters to try to gather.

One protester, Mey Elbi, said the demonstrators would not give up.

She told AFP: “We’re angry, this is not over. The world has seen that together, we can stand up to Tayyip.”

Unrest spread to other parts of Istanbul.

Protesters ripped up paving stones near the Galata bridge and police fired water cannon in the upmarket Nisantasi district.

As night fell, barricades were being erected in a number of city neighborhoods as youths faced off against police.

Some 1,000 riot police officers earlier arrived at Ataturk Airport from regions as far away as Diyarbakir and Sirnak, local media reported, to try to curb the Istanbul unrest.

Riot police could be seen leaving the city’s airport and getting on to coaches bound for the city.

At least 350 police on duty at the airport were also deployed to the city centre in case of possible clashes, Turkey’s Dogan news agency reports.

Police also fired tear gas and water cannon to clear demonstrators in Ankara’s Kizilay Square on Sunday afternoon.

At least four people were injured.

Amanda Bynes spotted doing jumping jacks as she plays slots at Atlantic City casino

On Saturday Amanda Bynes tried her luck at a casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey – but not before turning a few heads.

Fellow casino-goers spotted the former child star at Revel Resort as she sat by her lonesome at the slots.

Amanda Bynes, 27, dressed in a long white lace maxi gown, wearing her sunglasses at night as she hid behind her favorite rumpled platinum blonde wig.

According to the NY Daily News, Amanda Bynes had a dog with her and was still wearing store tags on her dress.

The actress’ wild look made her easily stand out from the crowd, many noting her bizarre behavior and some claiming that she reeked of alcohol.

“Amanda Bynes was doing jumping jacks on the casino floor I’m done,” Twitter user @SunniLuke said, adding that she was “running around with messy hair and all white on..basically dreads”.

Few photos released of her on her fun night out with reports that she even attempted to call security on a man who attempted to take a picture.

“She started yelling at my dad and lunging at him,” a source told celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

“She just freaked out screaming, <<he can’t take my picture>>.”

According to Twitter user @madhousezarry, Amanda Bynes has been hunkered down in the shore side city for days.

“Amanda Bynes is staying overnight at the casino my dad fixes computers at,” she said on Thursday afternoon.

Amanda Bynes was also spotted at the casino the night before, even making her way to the Borgata resort nearby.

Friend Jonathan Jaxson posted Saturday evening about Amanda Bynes’s big win.

He wrote: “Go @AmandaBynes for hitting a jackpot at the casino tonight!!! Whoop!!!”

When asked how she achieved success, Jonathan Jaxson added: “Rolling lots of dice. I have faith! ;)”

“You play and you hope to win. Girl won and did a dance! I would too!”

Earlier on Saturday Amanda launched a diatribe on her Twitter against the recent criticism she’s received.

“If I don’t like you I don’t want you to be happy and I’ll go out of my way to hurt you,” the Twitter spree started.

“When people say I need help, it says nothing about me. They aren’t getting any response from me.

“My real friends know I don’t need help. It makes me crazy to even have to respond to any type of rumor. I need to deny any false statement because I care about how I look.”

Kim Kardashian’s baby: Jonathan Cheban picks up peonies and white roses bouquet for the new mother

Kim Kardashian’s best friend Jonathan Cheban was seen picking up a bouquet of pink peonies and white roses to take to the new mother.

Jonathan Cheban stopped off at the Empty Vase in West Hollywood, California to get the flowers and then delivered them to Kim Kardashian at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The baby girl has been in the world for less than a full day yet Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s new baby daughter already takes after her reality star mother in the looks department.

The new born is said to pay a strong resemblance to Kim Kardashian and looks less like her rapper father.

A source close to the couple has revealed that the little girl is truly a Kardashian Mini-Me.

“She has dark hair,” the source revealed to E News.

“She looks just like Kim.”

The news of the baby bearing a striking resemblance to Kim will no doubt delight the Kardashian clan and their army of fans around the world.

Kim Kardashian’s baby name will start with K

Kim Kardashian gave birth to a healthy girl on June 15 and now it’s time for the big question – what name did they give this little girl?!

Kim Kardashian, 32, and Kanye West, 36, became first-time parents on Saturday when she delivered a healthy baby girl. It appears that the little one is a splitting image of Kim Kardashian, but what did they name her?

Kim Kardashian has reportedly told friends that her baby girl’s name will start with a K

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s network E! confirmed the birth of the baby girl, and added that though the couple has not released the name of their daughter just yet, Kim Kardashian has reportedly told friends that the girl’s name “will start with a K”.

That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise – every Kardashian girl in the family has names that begin with that letter.

As for the baby’s middle name, it could be Donda in honor of Kanye West’s late mother, People reports. This seems like a very sweet arrangement – it keeps the Kardashian legacy going while also remembering Kanye West’s mother, who he was extremely close with, in a tasteful, heartwarming way.

After feeling sick late on June 14, Kim Kardashian rushed to the hospital and had the baby early in the morning, according to Us Weekly. The baby reportedly weighed in at just under 5 pounds, and both mother and child are doing well after the birth.

Friends and family flocked to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where Kim Kardashian delivered the baby, to celebrate the big day. Kim Kardashian’s best friend Brittny Gastineau was seen entering the medical center with her mother. And on June 16, her other good friend Jonathan Cheban was spotted buying a beautiful bouquet of flowers, likely for Kim Kardashian, according to Mail Online. The bouquet was a gorgeous mix of pink roses and peonies.

Pope Francis blesses bikers in Sunday Mass for Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary

Pope Francis blessed crowds of motorcyclists at the Vatican for the 110th anniversary of Harley-Davidson.

Leather-clad bikers lifted their arms to greet the pontiff as he was driven up the avenue leading to St Peter’s Square to celebrate mass and give his Sunday angelus. Some had “Papa Francesco” (Pope Francis) flags fixed to their bikes, which were parked all the way down the Via della Conciliazione among the trinket shops and snack stands.

Later, after celebrating a mass attended by men and women in Harley vests among the faithful, many of whom were involved in a two-day anti-abortion event, Pope Francis greeted the “numerous participants” of the anniversary festivities. In a nod to the other large contingent in the crowd, he also offered prayers for “every human life, especially the most fragile, defenceless and threatened.”

Emmanuele Jaconi, an Italian biker, said he saw nothing strange in the juxtaposition. “Just because we’re motorcyclists doesn’t mean we’re not Catholics,” he said.

Marcel Taschenhofer, who had come from Rostock in northern Germany, said he was not religious and was a little disappointed not to be able to ride his bike right into St Peter’s Square. He added: “It’s just a hobby. We like to drive our bikes around, and if the pope thinks it’s good then all the better.”

Rome was invaded by thousands of motorcyclists for the four-day celebration, during which Pope Francis – in something of a marketing coup for the Wisconsin-based manufacturer – was given two white Harley-Davidsons for the Vatican police force, as well as a black leather vest with an eagle on the back.

Turkey protests: clashes continue in Istanbul after Gezi Park raid

Gezi Park protesters have clashed with Turkish police in Istanbul, after riot squads used tear gas and water cannon to eject demonstrators from the park.

The protesters quickly fled the park, but later erected barricades across nearby streets and lit bonfires.

Witnesses said it was one of the worst nights of unrest since the park was occupied 18 days ago.

Police blocked off the Bosphorus Bridge to stop demonstrators reaching Taksim Square, where the park is located.

Clashes continued into Sunday morning in the streets around the square, eyewitnesses say. On the square itself, bulldozers went to work, clearing away the protesters’ abandoned barricades.

Thousands of people also took to the streets of the capital, Ankara, to express support for the protests.

The Confederation of Public Workers’ Unions (KESK) also said it would call a nationwide strike on Monday, while another union grouping is deciding whether to join the action.

Medical officials estimate that 5,000 people have been injured and at least four killed since protests began in earnest on May 31.

PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan is due to hold a rally in Istanbul later on Sunday.

The protests began as a local protest against a plan to redevelop Gezi Park, but snowballed into nationwide anti-government protests after the perceived high-handed response of the authorities.

Kim Kardashian’s baby girl weighs just under 5 lbs, has dark hair and looks just like her mother

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s new baby daughter is said to pay a strong resemblance to her striking brunette mother and looks less like her rapper father.

“She looks just like Kim.”

The news of the baby bearing a striking resemblance to Kim will no doubt delight the Kardashian clan and their army of fans around the world.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s baby weighed in at just “under five pounds” at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles this morning and was almost one month premature.

It’s understood that the little girl is perfectly healthy but that no name has been released yet although the same source confirmed to E that it will start with a K.

The baby was delivered at the same hospital where her sister Kourtney Kardashian and her partner Scott Disick had their two children Penelope and Mason.

Proud father Kanye West, who skipped out on a listening party for his latest album in Los Angeles on Friday, was at Kim Kardashian’s side during the birth when the baby was delivered naturally and without any complications.

An insider told UsMagazine.com that Kanye West wouldn’t have missed the arrival of their first child for anything, saying: “Of course, Kanye was there with Kim when she went to the hospital and had the baby.

“She started to feel sick late last night [Friday] and was having contractions.”

Amanda Bynes labels Jason Biggs and Dr. Drew Pinsky ugly in her latest string of bizarre Twitter attacks

Just one day after eating her words against rapper Drake on Twitter, Amanda Bynes is back on the offensive.

Amanda Bynes, 27, spent much of the day calling random followers ugly, telling them she doesn’t care about them and lodging threats those she believes to be enemies, like: “If I don’t like you I don’t want you to be happy and I’ll go out of my way to hurt you” and “If you steal from me you’ll pay a price.”

However, when actor Jason Biggs finally weighed in on Amanda Bynes’ ramblings, the insults started flying again.

It all began when Amanda Bynes wrote: “If you’re not hot I don’t care about you.”

The American Pie star responded to her random tweet with: “This self-hatred really must stop, Amanda.”

To which Amanda Bynes retorted: “@JasonBiggs you’re so ugly I won’t talk to you.”

Shortly thereafter amanda Bynes ramble-tweeted: “You get turned on but what you are not by what you’re not.”

To which Jason Biggs responded again with this hilarious tweet: “Are you having a stroke?”

However, Amanda Bynes didn’t find it funny, responding both to Jason Biggs and another follower who had apparently crossed her with: “@TwitFlickR @JasonBiggs what a joke you both are good luck getting laid by anything with a vagina.”

Then celebrity therapist Dr. Drew Pinsky weighed in on Amanda Bynes’ condition: “I think it may be time to leave @AmandaBynes alone. She will get help if she wants it & if she needs it, hopefully before serious consequences.”

Not surprisingly, Amanda Bynes responded in her usual, childish way: “@drdrew WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? What kind of help are you referring to? You’re ugly and I want you to leave me alone!”

Longboardstroller: Quinny baby buggy mounted on a skateboard

Longboardstroller, the coolest invention for adventurous new mothers is here.

Parents could soon be able to take their toddlers out on skateboarding trips with them – as a pushchair has been invented that combines the two.

The wacky contraption consists of an elongated skateboard, known as a longboard, which has the seat section of a child’s buggy attached to the front of it.

Children between the ages of nine months and 4-and-a-half years old can comfortably sit in the buggy while their parents can hop on the back and propel it along.

The bizarre product dubbed the Longboardstroller has also been enhanced with a brake at the back and handlebars for steering behind the seat section.

The baby buggy will also mean parents will be able to take their children out on much longer “walks” they can with a normal stroller.

The product has been created by design studio Studio Peter Van Riet in Antwerp, Belgium, for buggy brand Quinny.

Longboardstroller, the coolest invention for adventurous new mothers is here
Longboardstroller, the coolest invention for adventurous new mothers is here

Inventors behind the Longboardstroller hope it will be an environmentally friendly alternative to travelling in cities and that parents will choose it over a car or bus.

Around eight prototypes of the product have been invented and it is currently being tested and evaluated for health and safety measures.

Peter Van Riet, 42, owner of Studio Peter Van Riet, said: “Last year we were approached by Quinny and they had an idea to make a stroller you could stand on.

“We met with parents o talk about it and came up with the idea of a stroller combined with a long board.

“With just a stroller alone you can travel maybe half a mile and this offers a solution to go further without having to use a car or another form of transport.

“It’s also environmentally friendly which is one of the main points behind it.

“To make the prototype we used part of an existing stroller and had a longboard made out of wood and fibreglass to make it stronger.

“It can hold children from about nine-months-old up to four-and-a-half years, with a maximum weight of around 35 lbs.

“Adults stand on the back and use the handles to steer or they can lean from side to side which also changes the direction.

“We are currently thinking about safety features such as what kind of brake it needs, how to attach the children and board sizes.

“It is difficult to say how much it will cost as it is not for sale yet but a good longboard costs up to £300 [$500] so it will be a bit more than that with the extra parts.”

Comboco Breakfast Gelato: Toast and scrambled eggs ice cream

0

The UK’s first-ever breakfast gelato menu has launched at Comboco in Soho, London.

There’s cereal milk gelato flavour, inspired by the sweet, starchy milk Americans are fond of adding to their breakfast bowls.

Then there is the unusual pancakes and maple syrup flavor, as well as toast with whipped butter.

For those on a diet, frozen yoghurt with granola may be the ideal option, and for those nursing a hangover, there are few more bracing starts to the day than a Bloody Mary gelato. The cocktail is re-imagined as an ice cool tomato sorbet, spiked with Tabasco and a heady hit of Worcestershire Sauce.

Customers can put some rocket fuel into their day with a rich coffee ice cream, the double espresso gelato.

Depending on the recipe and the person making it, dairy-based gelato contains around 16-24% sugar and 100g of the sugary treat packs around 216 calories.

However, while the breakfast ice cream may not aid dieters, it is said to help cure hangovers.

The cold effect causes more blood to be sent to the brain as a defense mechanism to try to keep the brain warm.

The increased circulation is said to help your brain recover from the dreaded booze-fuelled night before.

Comboco was founded by ex-City worker, Ashish Saggar, and have previously created special flavors for Pacha’s launch for River Island.

Speaking about their innovative new offering, the Comboco team said: “Our Breakfast Gelato Menu is a bit of fun to cheer up the Capital after this dull start to the summer.

“Every flavor is made using the finest organic milk but we don’t recommend that city dwellers enjoy this indulgent treat every day…it’s just for special occasions!”

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards’ hair for sale at Bonhams auction house

Not only their music has been making millions for 50 years, now the hair of Rolling Stones pair Mick Jagger and Keith Richards is also worth a fortune.

A lock of Mick Jagger’s hair is up for sale at auction house Bonhams next month with a guide price of between $2,400 and $3,000. Meanwhile, a clump of Keith Richards’s mop has just sold for $1,400.

Mick Jagger’s hair was snipped from his mane in the early 1960s and kept by relatives of one of his first girlfriends, Chrissie Shrimpton, a Covent Garden secretary he famously dated while a student at the London School of Economics.

Their romance marked a period when Mick Jagger lived with fellow Stone Keith Richards in Mapesbury Road, Kilburn, and then Holly Hill, Hampstead. Chrissie Shrimpton, sister of model Jean Shrimpton, lived with the two rockers.

The lovers got engaged and moved into a mansion block in Regent’s Park before Sir Mick – just plain old Mick Jagger back then – backed away and they split up without reaching the altar.

The guide price for the lock of hair is between $2,400 and $3,000. It is among a large collection of music and movie memorabilia, amassed from different sources, being sold by the famous auction house in Knightsbridge.

The brown hair comes in “a small paper envelope” with a statement of provenance to reassure doubters.

Bonhams’ catalogue guide says: “The statement from Chrissie Shrimpton confirms that, unbeknown to her at the time, this lock was saved by her grandmother when Mick and Chrissie were staying at her parents’ farm.

“Apparently, on her grandmother’s death, the hair passed to Chrissie’s aunt.

“When she died, the hair was returned to Chrissie by a cousin taking care of personal effects.”

Money raised from the sale of the hair will go to Changing Faces, a charity which supports people with disfigurements.

Also among the lots is an “automated” tweeting birdcage which Mick Jagger gave to Chrissie Shrimpton on her 21st birthday. The relationship with Chrissie Shrimpton, now 67, ran from 1963 to 1966. The auction in Knightsbridge is on July 3.

The clump of Keith Richards’s hair was cut from his head by 16-year-old fan Maggie Richardson in the Stones’ dressing room in Preston, Lancashire, in 1964.

Yahoo had refused to join PRISM spying program but was forced by secret court

It was revealed that Yahoo’s top lawyers had a courtroom showdown with the National Security Agency after it had demanded information on certain foreign users without a warrant, but the tech giant lost and was forced to hand over the data.

Court documents obtained by the New York Times show that Yahoo had initially refused to join the PRISM spying program, insisting that the broad national security requests seeking users’ personal information were unconstitutional.

However, the secret court operating under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) sided with the NSA and forced Yahoo’s hand.

Information about Yahoo’s legal battle against the NSA first emerged in a heavily redacted court order, but the name of the company involved had not been released until now.

It was claimed that besides Yahoo, a number of major Silicon Valley companies became part of PRISM, among them Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, YouTube, Skype, AOL and the lesser known Internet company PalTalk, which has hosted a lot of traffic during the Arab Spring and the on-going Syrian civil war.

However, only Facebook and Google have been shown to have worked toward creating “online rooms” in which to share data with the government.

Information about the classified program was leaked last week by NSA systems administrator Edward Snowden, 29, who smuggled the files concerning PRISM on a thumb drive.

Yahoo fought against NSA's warrantless spying program but lost and was forced by secret court to join PRISM
Yahoo fought against NSA’s warrantless spying program but lost and was forced by secret court to join PRISM

In 2008, Yahoo argued that NSA’s requests seeking to obtain its users’ private data violated their Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures, but the judges on the FISA court disagreed with the company’s assessment, calling their concerns “overblown”, the Times reported.

“Notwithstanding the parade of horrible trotted out by the petitioner, it has presented no evidence of any actual harm, any egregious risk of error, or any broad potential for abuse,” the court said, adding that the government’s “efforts to protect national security should not be frustrated by the courts”.

Yahoo’s defeat in court reportedly left other top players in the industry more reluctant to challenge the NSA on surveillance request.

So far, Yahoo, Google and Facebook have all denied their involvement in PRISM.

“Yahoo! has not joined any program in which we volunteer to share user data with the U.S. government,” Yahoo General Counsel Ron Bell wrote in a Tumblr post Saturday.

“We do not voluntarily disclose user information. The only disclosures that occur are in response to specific demands.”

In the wake of the unwarranted spying scandal, a number of top Silicon Valley companies, among them Facebook, Google and Microsoft, have asked the government to overturn a gag order allowing them to publicly disclose national security requests.

Google Inc was the first to go public with its demand for greater transparency, releasing an open letter asking the U.S. Department of Justice for permission to disclose the number and scope of data requests each receives from security agencies, including confidential FISA requests.

Microsoft Corp and Facebook Inc soon followed with similarly worded statements in support of Google.

Last year, the US government issued more than 1,850 FISA requests and 15,000 National Security Letters, which refers to requests filed by the FBI to collect information about Americans.

Between 2008 and 2012, only two of more than 8,500 FISA requests were rejected by the secret court, according to the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a non-profit research group.

Pope Francis names Monsignor Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca to oversee Vatican bank management

Pope Francis has taken his first major step towards reforming to the troubled Vatican bank, naming Monsignor Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca, a trusted cleric, to oversee its management.

The Vatican said Monsignor Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca had been approved as interim prelate of the Institute for Religious Work (IOR)s, as the bank is known.

Monsignor Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca currently runs a number of Church-owned properties.

The IOR, considered one of the world’s most secretive banks, has been at the centre of several scandals.

In February, German lawyer Ernst von Freyberg was named the IOR’s new chairman, eight months after his predecessor was ousted amid a money laundering probe.

The appointment was one of the last acts of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who became the first Pope to resign in 600 years later that month.

In May, Ernst von Freyberg said he was instituting checks on the IOR’s 19,000 accounts, which are mostly held by Vatican employees, charities, priests and nuns.

Although Monsignor Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca was nominated by Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican announcement made clear that Pope Francis personally backed the appointment.

Monsignor Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca runs the hotel where the Pope is living while his official residence is renovated.

As the prelate of the IOR – a post that has been vacant since 2011 – Monsignor Battista Mario Salvatore Ricca will report to the five-member commission of cardinals that oversees the bank, attend board meetings and have access to information on its financial activities.

The IOR is currently seeking recognition from the Council of Europe’s anti-money laundering committee, Moneyval, that it is fully compliant with international standards on combating money laundering, tax evasion and terrorist financing.

Last year, Moneyval said the bank was making progress but needed to improve.

The bank’s rules for customer due diligence, wire transfers and suspicious-transaction reporting were insufficient, and it needed an independent supervisor, Moneyval added.

Founded in 1942, the Vatican bank has 114 employees and $7.1 billion of assets.

North Korea proposes high-level talks with US after cancelling meeting with South Korea

North Korea has proposed high-level talks with the United States, days after cancelling a meeting with South Korean officials.

The National Defense Commission said in a statement it wanted “serious discussions” with the US to “secure peace and stability in the region”.

US and North Korean officials meet periodically, but have not engaged in high-level talks since 2009.

Earlier this year Pyongyang threatened to launch a nuclear attack on both the US and South Korea.

For years the North has cajoled the US and regional neighbors with a mixture of dire threats and promises of co-operation.

Correspondents say Pyongyang is constantly trying to improve its bargaining position to extract more food aid or fuel.

However, the regime has conducted three nuclear-weapons tests in recent years that have even angered its only ally, China.

Beijing co-authored a Security Council resolution imposing new sanctions on the regime earlier this year in response to its latest nuclear test.

The North responded with increasingly hysterical threats, cut hotlines used for emergency communication with the South and withdrew workers from a joint industrial park near the border.

Pyongyang finally agreeing to open talks with the South earlier this week.

But on Thursday, the North cancelled the meeting, accusing the South of “deliberate disturbance” by changing the head of its delegation.

On Friday, Pyongyang issued an appeal calling on the South to change fundamentally its “policy of confrontation”.

The National Defense Commission on Sunday said that in the meantime it proposed “high-level talks between the North and the US to secure peace and stability in the region and ease tension on the Korean peninsula”.

The commission said it was willing to have “serious discussions on a wide range of issues, including the US goal to achieve the world free of nuclear arsenal”.

Washington could decide the time and venue, but there should be no preconditions, the statement said.

The National Defense Commission is headed by North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, who succeeded his father in December 2011.

For years, delegates from North Korea engaged with the US, Russia, South Korea, Japan and China in talks over its nuclear programme.

The regime was rewarded with food and fuel aid when it gave concessions, such as destroying a cooling tower at the Yongbyon nuclear plant in 2008.

However, North Korea walked out of the talks in April 2009 after the UN criticized a rocket launch.

Hong Kong march to support Edward Sowden

Hundreds of protesters in Hong Kong have marched to the US consulate in support of ex-CIA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

They demanded that local authorities protect Edward Snowden, who is in hiding in Hong Kong.

Edward Snowden’s leaks revealed that US agencies had systematically gathered vast amounts of phone and web data.

He also gave an interview to a local newspaper alleging that US intelligence had been hacking into Chinese computer networks.

Protesters and local politicians have demanded clarification from the US government on the allegations.

“Hong Kong is one of the few places in China where internet freedom is still OK. Now the American government is hacking into us,” one protester said.

“That is a crime against human rights.”

Another man brought a poster containing a picture of US President Barack Obama and the words “Big Brother is watching you”.

Edward Snowden told the South China Morning Post this week that the US National Security Agency (NSA) had led more than 61,000 hacking operations worldwide, including many in Hong Kong and mainland China.

He said targets in Hong Kong included the Chinese University, public officials and businesses.

Edward Snowden left Hawaii for Hong Kong shortly before the highly sensitive leaks surfaced and has vowed to fight any attempt to extradite him to the US.

“I am not here to hide from justice; I am here to reveal criminality,” Edward Snowden told the Post, which said the interview was carried out in a secret location in Hong Kong.

“My intention is to ask the courts and people of Hong Kong to decide my fate.”

In a US Senate hearing earlier this week, NSA director Keith Alexander defended the internet and telephone data snooping programmes, saying they had disrupted dozens of terror plots.

Intelligence officials have insisted agents do not listen in on Americans’ telephone conversations. And they maintain the internet communications surveillance programme, reportedly code-named Prism, targeted only non-Americans located outside of the US.

Although the information leaked by Edward Snowden has angered the US government, so far he has not been charged by the authorities, nor is he the subject of an extradition request.

Hong Kong’s government says it does not comment on individual cases but will follow any request according to the law, our correspondent reports.

Analysts say any attempts to bring Edward Snowden to America may take months and could be blocked by Beijing.

Kim Kardashian has a natural birth and baby girl is placed in incubator

Kim Kardashian gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday – four weeks ahead of her due date.

Kim Kardashian, 32, had been admitted to hospital in Beverly Hills on Friday.

The reality star had taken out a birthing suite at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center – a hospital of choice among many celebrities including Britney Spears, Victoria Beckham and Jessica Simpson.

Hours later – around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday – Kim Kardashian gave birth to her first child, a baby girl.

Her boyfriend, rapper Kanye West, and mother Kris Jenner were reportedly at her side.

TMZ cited sources that the reality star had a natural birth after having contractions late Friday evening.

Kim Kardashian had planned to have a C-section but after suffering an infection had decided to take the precaution of going to the hospital a few weeks early, according to X17Online.

Her due date was reportedly July 11 – the same day as Kate Middleton.

Both mother and baby are in good health and resting, but given the early birthday, the littlest Kardashian has been placed in an incubator.

No further details have been released and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have not given any hint at what they will name their daughter.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced the pregnancy in December.

Kim Kardashian giving birth: Kanye West refuses to leave her side even as she goes into full labour

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West made headlines for being worlds apart during much of her pregnancy, but that certainly wasn’t the case on Friday night as the rapper made sure he was front and centre for the birth of his first child with the reality star.

Kanye west, 36, had been scheduled to make an appearance at a release party in Los Angeles for his new album Yeezus, which is due out on Tuesday.

But Kim Kardashian, 32, had started feeling ill Friday and, after having contractions, admitted herself to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center near Beverly Hills five weeks ahead of her scheduled due date, causing Kanye West to skip out on his own party.

Several of Kim Kardashian’s close friends, including Scott Disick and Jonathan Cheban both attended the event and sources said that there were whispers around the room that Kim had already gone into labour by the time the party started.

According to sources, Kanye West stayed by Kim Kardashian’s side through the ordeal and refused to leave her side even as she went into full labour and had a natural birth at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

“Of course, Kanye was there with Kim when she went to the hospital and had the baby,” Us Weekly reported, saying that he “wouldn’t have missed the arrival of the couple’s bundle of joy for anything”.

Only days earlier the couple had been fielding rumors that Kanye West had strayed from their relationship.

Canadian model Leyla Ghobadi, 24, told Star Magazine that she and Kanye West had a fling last July that continued for several months, but reps for both Kim and Kanye vigorously deny the claims.

While Kanye West is undoubtedly happy to be celebrating his first Father’s Day, the focus on his latest album Yeezus prevented the duo from spending much time together.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced the pregnancy in December and shortly thereafter Kanye sought refuge in France to begin recording.

Turkish riot police clear Gezi Park protest camp using tear gas and water cannon

Turkish riot police have moved to clear the protest camp in Istanbul’s Gezi Park, using tear gas and water cannon.

Police began dismantling the tents that protesters had put up in the park.

The move came hours after PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned protesters to evacuate the area ahead of a rally by his AK party on Sunday.

Plans to redevelop the park sparked a wave of broader anti-government unrest and protesters had vowed to stay there until their demands were met.

In a show of overwhelming force, police advanced into the park wearing riot shields and gas marks.

Most of the protesters left of their own accord to avoid getting hurt, with some regrouping in nearby streets.

Local residents took to their balconies or leant out of windows banging pots and pans, while car drivers sounded their horns in support of the protesters, Reuters news agency reports.

Some of the protesters were reportedly receiving medical attention, several of them retreating into a nearby hotel.

Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu said 29 people had been injured in the raid, but none seriously.

Huseyin Avni Mutlu said only “marginal groups” had remained in the park.

“I won’t give up,” protester May Elbi told AFP.

“We’re angry, this is not over. The world has seen that together, we can stand up to Tayyip.”

There have been reports of fresh confrontations in Istanbul after the clearing of the park, with police again using tear gas to disperse protesters.

In the capital Ankara, thousands of people came out onto the streets to chant anti-government slogans.

Turkish riot police have moved to clear the protest camp in Istanbul's Gezi Park, using tear gas and water cannon

Earlier, in a speech in Ankara, Recep Tayyip Erdogan told tens of thousands of AK party supporters: “If Taksim Square is not evacuated, this country’s security forces will know how to evacuate it.”

“Staying there [in Gezi Park] makes no sense anymore as the matter is now in the hands of the courts,” he told tens of thousands of cheering supporters.

“Nobody can intimidate us. We take no orders or instruction from anyone but God,” the prime minister added.

He also dismissed the wave of demonstrations as part of an organized plot against him.

One protest group responded to Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s speech by calling for another mass rally in Taksim Square. Istanbul is also set to host an AK party rally on Sunday,

On May 31, a crackdown on environmentalists in Gezi Park provoked protests across Turkey against the police’s actions and against Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government.

On Saturday, the protesters vowed to stay there, despite a promise by Recep Tayyip Erdogan to halt the development plan for the park until a court ruling on the issue.

Last month, an Istanbul court issued an initial injunction against the plan to cut down trees in the park to make way for a shopping centre and replica 18th-Century military barracks. The government has appealed against the ruling.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s offer was presented as a major concession. But after discussions in Gezi Park on Friday night, the protesters said their movement was more than just a conservation protest and vowed to stay on.

Five people have died and thousands have been injured since the protests began.

Demonstrators have accused Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government of becoming increasingly authoritarian and of trying to impose conservative Islamic values on a secular state.

The police crackdown on protesters in Istanbul, Ankara, and other towns and cities has drawn international concern, especially from Europe.

Hassan Rouhani wins Iran presidency in first round

Hassan Rouhani has won Iran’s presidential election, securing just over 50% of the vote and so avoiding the need for a run-off.

Crowds gathered in Tehran to hail reformist-backed cleric Hassan Rouhani, who said he had achieved a “victory of moderation over extremism”.

Some 72.2% of the 50 million eligible Iranian voters cast ballots to choose the successor to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The US said it was “ready to engage directly” with Iran over its disputed nuclear programme.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei congratulated Hassan Rouhani on his victory.

“I urge everyone to help the president-elect and his colleagues in the government, as he is the president of the whole nation,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will ratify the vote on August 3 and the new president will then take the oath in parliament.

Hassan Rouhani, who has pledged greater engagement with Western powers, said: “This victory is a victory for wisdom, moderation and maturity… over extremism.”

But he also urged the world to “acknowledge the rights” of Iran.

He said: “The nations who tout democracy and open dialogue should speak to the Iranian people with respect and recognize the rights of the Islamic republic.”

Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar announced that Hassan Rouhani had won 18,613,329 of the 36,704,156 votes cast. This represented 50.71% of the vote.

Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf won 6,077,292 votes to take second place (16.56%).

Saeed Jalili came third and Mohsen Rezai fourth.

Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said that any challenge by presidential candidates would have to be lodged to the Guardian Council within three days.

The winning candidate needed more than 50% of all ballots cast, including invalid ones, to avoid a run-off.

Crowds gathered in Vali-Asr Square in central Tehran and in Kaj Square in the north-west of the capital to hail the victory.

“Long live reform, long live Rouhani,” members of the crowd chanted.

One of them told Reuters news agency: “Many people are holding Rouhani posters. Some are hugging and crying. We are all so happy here. We can’t believe there is finally a change.”

The US said it respected the vote, although White House spokesman Jay Carney cited concern at censorship and lack of transparency.

The US would “engage Iran directly” to find a “diplomatic solution that will fully address the international community’s concerns about Iran’s nuclear programme”.

The UK Foreign Office urged Hassan Rouhani to “set Iran on a different course for the future: addressing international concerns about Iran’s nuclear programme… and improving the political and human rights situation for the people of Iran”.

France said it was “ready to work” with the new leader.

One of Hassan Rouhani’s main pledges was to try to ease international sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear programme.

Iran has been suffering economic hardship, with rising unemployment, a devalued currency and soaring inflation.

Voting had been extended by five hours on Friday evening to allow more people to cast their ballots.

Although all six candidates were seen as conservatives, analysts say Hassan Rouhani – a 64-year-old cleric often described as “moderate” who has held several parliamentary posts and served as chief nuclear negotiator – has been reaching out to reformists in recent days.

The surge of support for him came after Mohammad Reza Aref, the only reformist candidate in the race, announced on Tuesday that he was withdrawing on the advice of pro-reform ex-President Mohammad Khatami.

Hassan Rouhani thus went into polling day with the endorsement of two ex-presidents – Mohammad Khatami and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, who was disqualified from the race by the powerful Guardian Council, a 12-member body of theologians and jurists.

The hard-line candidates included Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf – who is seen as a pragmatic conservative – and nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili – who is said to be very close to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The other three candidates were Mohsen Rezai, a former head of the powerful Revolutionary Guards, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.

After the last presidential election in June 2009, millions of Iranians took to the streets to demand a rerun, when the supreme leader dismissed claims by the three defeated candidates of widespread fraud.

No foreign observers monitored this year’s election and there have also been concerns that media coverage in the run-up has been unfair.

Many reformist newspapers have been shut down, access to the internet and foreign broadcasters has been restricted, and journalists have been detained.

Who is Hassan Rouhani?

  • A religious moderate, fluent in English, German, French, Russian and Arabic
  • The only cleric contesting the Iranian presidential election
  • Key figure in Iranian politics who has held some of the country’s top jobs, including chief nuclear negotiator
  • Has the backing of two former presidents

Iran presidential election results:

  • Hassan Rouhani: 18,613,329
  • Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf: 6,077,292

Kanye West’s latest album Yeezus leaked online days before its official release on June 18

Despite keeping a tight lid on his latest project Yeezus, Kanye West’s sixth studio album has made its way onto the internet just days before its official release on June 18.

Since Friday afternoon fans have posted everything from individual tracks to the entire album on video sites like YouTube and through file sharing torrents.

The high quality of the tracks has sent record executives scrambling to find the source of the release and even threaten to pursue legal action against the perpetrator.

However, according toTMZ, Kanye West hasn’t been bothered by it as he understands that it’s “inevitable” for the tunes to fall through the cracks with “so many cooks in the kitchen”.

And that’s because Kanye West has had heavy control over what the media and his fans have heard from the highly anticipated album.

Ahead of the weekend leak, only a few of his tracks have made their way to the public’s ears.

Kanye West has been hunkered down in Paris for much of the last year as he recorded his sixth studio album and the only major release of any of his tunes was his SNL performance of New Slaves and Black Skinhead in May.

Aside from that there has been no promotional roll out – no singles have been released on the radio, no official videos posted online and no pre-orders or pre-releases were made available.

On Monday Kanye West invited an A-list group of musicians and industry executives for an early listening party, most likely in hopes of creating an organic buzz around his dance-hall heavy album – which he says was “created from his gut”.

“The way this whole album was put together, the amount of producers that came together for it and the way we worked on this collectively, we didn’t give a f*** what anybody said,” Kanye West told the crowd.

Kanye West's sixth studio album Yeezus has made its way onto the internet just days before its official release on June 18
Kanye West’s sixth studio album Yeezus has made its way onto the internet just days before its official release on June 18

“We just wanted to make the best product possible. And this is just the beginning of an entirely new mentality on how to make music directly for the people.”

Talking about his release date, Kanye West described the June 18 release as “delivering [something] for ya’ll to go to work to, ride to, listen to when ya’ll working out -whatever you’re doing, to provide a soundtrack for it”.

And the day before Kanye West debuted a host of new tracks at the Governor’s Ball Music Festival in New York City.

Last week Kanye West released a short clip on his website in which he’s recording the tune I Am a God with lyrics proclaiming that he’s talked to Jesus – and been confirmed as being a god as well. The video ends with a chat with legendary music producer Rick Rubin, who was the executive producer of the album.

On the title of the album – Yeezus, Kanye West said: “West was my slave name and Yeezus was my god name.”

The ten track album crosses over a series of genres – from punk rock to new wave – and features collaborations with Daft Punk, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Frank Ocean to name a few.

“Those looking for vintage soul sounds or even full-on raps from start to finish will be thrown several curves here. It’s an album with numerous layers as well,” read a Billboard review posted on Saturday.

The music magazine gave the album an approving 88 out of 100 review, even justifying Kanye West’s recent claim to the New York Times that he is the “Michael Jordan of music”.

“But mostly, West is just plain mad – angry at naysayers, <<The Man>> censoring his art, and even at his own celeb status.”

Fans have taken to Twitter and YouTube to express both their praise for Kanye West as well as dissatisfaction with the latest album.

Some fans have been less than impressed, claiming that the singer hasn’t made much progress with his new album.

Pictures of the album itself also made their way to Twitter, showing a discrete looking CD with no artwork on the disk nor the box aside from a large red sticker and a few lines of text on the backside.

Yet despite the early leak – something that’s becoming far too common in today’s industry – Kanye West’s album is still expected to bring in a cool 500,000 sales in its first week release.

That would be in the same range as his previous album sales – 2011’s Watch The Throne collected 436,000 sales while his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sold 496,000 and 2008’s 808s & Heartbreak scored around 450,000.

However, that is little in comparison to this year’s hottest album – Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience – which topped the charts in March with 968,000 copies.

Meanwhile, Kanye West, 36, was last spotted at the Yeezus listening party in Switzerland Tuesday.

Kanye West’s album was leaked online Friday and fans wondered whether he was referring to his post-Kardashian lifestyle in the lyrics to his track, New Slave.

Kanye West raps: “I’ll move my family out the country/So you can’t see where I stay/So go and grab the reporters/So I can smash his recorders.”

Kim Kardashian was last seen Wednesday in a baby bumb-hugging green Top Shop dress having lunch at Casa Vega with her friend Jonathan Cheban.

Hours later Kim Kardashian gave birth to her baby girl.

Both the mother and daughter were reportedly in good health – despite the baby’s arrival being weeks early.

No further details have been released but it has been reported her partner, rapper Kanye West, was at her side for the birth.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced the pregnancy in December.

This is the first child for Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who has been married twice before – to musician Damon Thomas in her 20s and most recently to basketball player Kris Humphries.

Kanye West skipped out on a listening party for his latest album last night prompting speculation the baby was on its way.

Sources close to the couple later confirmed that Kim Kardashian had been hospitalized.
