BONN, GERMANY – In a swift reversal, global logistics giant DHL today announced the immediate lifting of its temporary suspension on high-value business-to-consumer (B2C) shipments to the United States. The decision, effective immediately, comes just over a week after the company halted deliveries of parcels valued above $800, citing disruptions caused by new US customs regulations tied to President Trump’s recent trade policies.

The abrupt suspension, which took effect on April 21st, sent ripples of concern through international e-commerce and businesses reliant on direct-to-consumer shipping to the US. DHL attributed the initial halt to a “surge in formal customs clearances” triggered by a recent lowering of the threshold for formal entry processing by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This threshold dropped from $2,500 to $800 on April 5th as part of the Trump administration’s implementation of reciprocal tariffs under emergency economic powers.

However, in a statement released this morning, DHL expressed satisfaction following what it described as “constructive dialogue” with the US government. The company indicated that these discussions led to a mutual understanding of the operational and technical challenges faced by DHL and an agreement that swift action was necessary in the interest of American consumers.

“This decision follows constructive dialogue between DHL and the U.S. government, who demonstrated a strong willingness to understand our operational and technical challenges, and who agreed that it was imperative to act quickly in the interest of U.S. consumers,” DHL stated in its official announcement.

Crucially, DHL revealed that as a result of these discussions, the value thresholds for shipments entering the US have been adjusted. Shipments valued between $800 and $2,500 can once again be cleared using the expedited informal entry process, the very mechanism whose disruption prompted the initial suspension.

The company expressed its appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to the development of this “new regulation” by the US government, emphasizing its commitment to supporting its customers’ needs and facilitating international trade.

While the resumption of high-value B2C shipments is welcome news for businesses and consumers, DHL cautioned that US-bound deliveries may still experience some transit delays as the company works to reinstate the service fully and clear any existing backlog.

The initial suspension by a major player like DHL underscored the real-world impact of the Trump administration’s evolving trade policies and the challenges faced by logistics providers in adapting to rapid regulatory changes. The swift reversal, however, suggests a potential willingness on the part of the US government to address logistical concerns arising from these new regulations.

Industry analysts will be closely watching to see if other carriers who may have been facing similar challenges will follow DHL’s lead. For now, the lifting of the suspension offers a degree of relief to the flow of international goods into the United States, signaling a potential easing of the immediate disruption caused by the recent changes in customs procedures.
