His friends and fellow cricketers have been sending messages of support via social media.

“The whole NZC team’s thoughts are with @DijaRyder this morning,” New Zealand cricket tweeted.

Jesse Ryder – who has featured in New Zealand’s national team – plays his domestic cricket with Wellington.
