Cissy Houston will perform a tribute to her late daughter Whitney Houston alongside other female singers at the upcoming BET Awards.
A source familiar with BET’s plans said Tuesday that Cissy Houston will take the stage at the July 1 awards show to honor her daughter.

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the tribute has not been officially announced.

Whitney Houston died at age 48 in February in her hotel room in Beverly Hills. Authorities called her death an accidental drowning, complicated by heart disease and cocaine use.
The BET Awards airs live from The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Kanye West, Beyonce and Jay-Z are the top nominees.
Bobby Brown has married his manager Alicia Etheridge on Monday in a small ceremony in Hawaii.
Bobby Brown’s wedding may seem abrupt considering the fact that ex-wife Whitney Houston died only months ago in February, but since he and Houston had been separated for several years prior to her death it isn’t all that shocking that on Monday Brown wed manager Alicia Etheridge in Hawaii.
According to People magazine, Bobby Brown and Alicia Etheridge took advantage of a New Edition performance in Honolulu to tie the knot on the Pacific island. The couple have got engaged (on stage) in 2010 and have one young son together.

Bobby Brown, 43, also has a daughter, 19-year-old Bobbi Kristina, with Whitney Houston and three more from previous relationships.
Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown were married for 15 years, during which time Whitney became addicted to drugs and alcohol.
Bobby Brown has repeatedly denied that he introduced Whitney Houston to drugs.
Whitney Houston hid her drug habit from her friends and family in the weeks before her tragic death, claims her pal and entertainment consultant Raffles van Exel.
Whitney Houston – who had a history of substance abuse – was found dead in the bath tub of her hotel room in February after suffering a huge heart attack partly brought on by her cocaine abuse but those close to her thought she had been clean for two years.
Raffles van Exel said: “Whitney was good at hiding her drug habit. I honestly thought she was clean in the two years before she died. Yes, she would have the occasional drink. And I knew she was taking painkillers and the anxiety drug Xanax. But I never suspected she was using hard drugs.
“It really shocked me when I found that out. And actually it made me quite mad because I thought, <<Whitney, you had us all fooled>>. Everyone thought Whitney was in a good place and we never imagined anything like this was going to happen.”

However, Raffles van Exel said Whitney Houston – who had been using cocaine at the time of death – had a premonition she was going to die.
He told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “But looking back, Whitney seemed to have a premonition about her death. She started carrying a Bible around everywhere she went and would read from it all the time.
“Also, she kept talking about <<leaving>> America. I thought she meant she was going to Switzerland, where she had talked about living, but now I realize she meant she was leaving this world.”

Cissy Houston, 78, has signed a multi-million dollar deal to write with “candor, honesty and respect” about Whitney, who died as a result of accidental drowning in her bath and effects of heart disease and cocaine use on February 11.
Whitney Houston’s mother said: “When I lost my daughter Nippy [Whitney Houston’s nickname], the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman.
“In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney. We are still receiving thousands of letters each day from her fans, and I hope reading this book will provide a deeper understanding into my daughter’s true story.”
Whitney Houston famously spiraled into drug addiction alongside her husband Bobby Brown – the father of her 19-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina – in the 90s and Cissy will talk about the issues which this caused in her book.
When producers of Grammy Awards learned of Whitney Houston’s death less than 24 hours before the live telecast, they scrapped parts of the script, added performances and puzzled over how best to honor the Grammy-winning singer who died unexpectedly at age 48.
Host LL Cool J said that addressing the Grammy audience at the Staples Center after Whitney Houston’s death was “definitely the most challenging moment I’ve faced in my career.”
He decided to open with a prayer, and producers agreed, though none could recall another network TV event that began as such.
This and other last-minute changes made to the 54th annual Grammy Awards are chronicled in a new documentary, A Death in the Family: The Show Must Go On, which premiered this week at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
The screening of the 25-minute documentary and 14-minute highlight reel of past Grammy performances was also a not-so-subtle push for Emmy votes.
“We’d love to have you consider us when you vote,” said Ken Ehrlich, executive producer of the Grammys for the past 32 years.
“We’ve been nominated before and not won.”
When producers of Grammy Awards learned of Whitney Houston's death they scrapped parts of the script, added performances and puzzled over how best to honor her
He added that executives at CBS, which broadcasts the Grammys, suggested Ken Ehrlich’s team produce the documentary, which can be seen on the Grammy.com website and at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.
Emmy ballots are due at the end of the month.
The documentary, though it deals with show changes made after Whitney Houston’s death, isn’t a downer.
Ken Ehrlich said that about an hour before he heard about Whitney Houston, he’d experienced a career high: Paul McCartney, who was set to close the show, asked if he might perform a Beatles medley from Abbey Road, and maybe it could include a guitar jam with the likes of Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh and Bruce Springsteen.
The number came together just before Whitney Houston’s death.
Ken Ehrlich said the magic of that Paul McCartney moment made him feel “like maybe there is a God.”
“God said, I’m going to give this to him, but I’m not going to let him get too cocky,” the veteran producer said in an interview before the screening.
After Whitney Houston died, the challenge was to “do something that was respectful to Whitney,” Ken Ehrlich said: “that set a tone that also didn’t lose the fact that there were thousands of people who were coming to this event because they had done something remarkable this year on their own, and they needed to be treated with respect as well.”
The documentary includes interviews with LL Cool J and Jennifer Hudson, who performed a heartfelt tribute to Whitney Houston. It also includes rehearsal footage and interviews with Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl, who said performing alongside Paul McCartney was unforgettable.
Bruce Springsteen joked that he had “been waiting since 1964” for the opportunity to play with the former Beatle. Dave Grohl said sharing the stage with such icons was like “looking at Mount Rushmore.”
February’s Grammy Awards drew nearly 40 million viewers, its second largest audience ever. The biggest Grammy audience – more than 43 million viewers – came in 1984, when Michael Jackson won a record eight awards for Thriller.

HarperCollins wouldn’t divulge how much they’re paying Cissy Houston but said “a portion” of the proceeds will be donated to the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., where Whitney Houston, whose many hits included The Greatest Love of All and I Will Always Love You, sang as a child.
Whitney Houston’s funeral was also held there.
Cissy Houston has had meetings with several publishers and the word in media circles is the book deal could be worth seven figures.
According to HarperCollins, Cissy Houston will write with “candor, honesty and respect” about her daughter’s remarkable career. She’ll also address Whitney Houston’s drug problems and her troubled marriage to fellow singer Bobby Brown.
Cissy Houston also will tell of her own grief.
“She will tell the unabridged and unbelievable story of her daughter’s life as well as her own, addressing Whitney’s brightest and darkest moments while helping fans around the world understand the complexities of this extraordinary star who died much too soon,” HarperCollins announced.
“Ultimately, Cissy will go behind the headlines to show the true, human side of this strong, successful yet complicated musical icon, capturing the dramatic depths and soaring range of an extraordinary woman, along with the pain and heartbreak of a grieving mother as she struggles with impossible loss.”
Cissy Houston recently released a new album of gospel tunes called Walk on By Faith, her first new music in more than a decade.
This will be Cissy Houston’s second book. She wrote the memoir, How Sweet the Sound, in 1998.

The singer believes his daughter is ”smart enough” not to follow in his footsteps.
Bobby Brown told MTV: ”Any parent that has a teenager in their life, they go through things. They go through phases that they might not be doing exactly what you want them to do in life, but they grow out of it, and my baby girl has grown out of it. I trust and believe that she’s smart enough to not go down the same road that maybe I did in the past or her mother did in the past. She’s extremely smart.”

Whitney Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown has released a new song titled Don’t Let Me Die, a tribute to his former wife.
Debuting the track on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Bobby Brown, 43, appeared emotional as he sang through the lyrics, all whilst wearing a pair of sunglasses onstage.
In the track Bobby Brown seemingly admits some kind of wrong doing, singing how he “messed up pretty bad”.
“I guess I messed up pretty bad … I didn’t know who you were … I didn’t know what we had. Now I’m stuck living in the past …trying to get the pieces back … but I guess now you’re gone,” he sang.
“I didn’t realize that every breath I took was from you … You were my air.”
Bobby Brown has released a new song titled Don't Let Me Die, a tribute to Whitney Houston
The new track will be featured on Bobby Brown’s new album The Masterpiece, which will be released on June 5.
It is the first album he has recorded since his 1997 LP Forever.
It comes after Bobby Brown hit back at claims last month that he was responsible for introducing his former wife to the drugs, which played a part in her untimely death.
“I didn’t get high [on narcotics] before I met Whitney,” Bobby Brown told The Today Show’s Matt Lauer.
“I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn’t the one that got Whitney on drugs at all.”
He said drugs were a part of the singer’s life “way way before” they got together. Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown married in 1993 and had daughter Bobbi Kristina, now 19-years-old, before divorcing in 2007.
Bobby Brown added: “It’s just unexplainable how one could, [say that I] got her addicted to drugs. I’m not the reason she’s gone.”

After 14 years, Bobby Brown comes out with a new album, The Masterpiece, because he has spent so much time trying to get his life on track.
Now on tour with bandmates New Edition, Bobby Brown, 43, says he is ready to return to his solo career with the album The Masterpiece, due out June 5.
“It’s what I’ve been through throughout my life, and just trying to heal myself through my music,” Bobby Brown said in a recent interview.
The Masterpiece is Bobby Brown’s first album in 14 years. He was a multiplatinum star with New Edition and later developed his solo career. But his well-documented battle with drugs and his legal woes led to his musical decline. His turbulent marriage to Whitney Houston further eroded his image.
After 14 years, Bobby Brown comes out with a new album, The Masterpiece
In a recent interview with the Today show’s Matt Lauer, Bobby Brown denied that he got his late ex-wife addicted to drugs. Whitney Houston’s career was derailed by her drug use, which came to the public’s attention during her marriage to Bobby Brown. The superstar drowned in February in Beverly Hills, California; her death was complicated by heart disease and cocaine use, according to authorities.
“The Matt Lauer interview was just for me to clear the air about what everyone was feeling about my ex-wife’s death,” the singer said.
Although he was arrested for DUI in March, Bobby Brown insists he has been drug-free for more than seven years. He said his attempt to get his life in order is part of the reason why the album took so long to make.
“When you’re working on yourself, you have to really concentrate on working on yourself and it takes a back seat to what you want to do and what I’m gonna do,” Bobby Brown said.
Bobby Brown says The Masterpiece, which he started working on last year, is “the best album I’ve done so far”.
“But I’m going to do better in the near future,” he said.
“I just want to get back to what I do, which is entertainment, and this is the start to me getting back to what I want to do.”
Bobby Brown is engaged to his manager, Alicia Etheridge, with whom he has a young son. He also has other older children, including 19-year-old Bobbi Kristina, his only child with Whitney Houston.
Bobby Brown said he and Alicia Etheridge plan a private wedding, and described his life as content.
“I’m happy right now in my life, I’m comfortable with who I am,” he said.
“It’s just better.”

Bobby Brown, 43, and his fiancée Alicia Etheridge – who have been engaged for two years and have a son Cassius, who will turn three later this month – will tie the knot in Honolulu on the same weekend he performs on the island with his band.
According to celebrity website TMZ, the New Edition musician will also fly out some of his family and friends to witness the ceremony he has dubbed his “big day”.
It is doubtful whether his estranged daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, 19, – his only child with former wife Whitney Houston – will attend.

Although Bobby Brown has been engaged to Alicia Etheridge for two years, it was recently claimed he and Whitney Houston – who died in a Beverly Hills hotel room in February – had been planning to remarry in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas with Bobbi Kristina as their only witness.
Author Derrick Handspike – who wrote Bobby Brown’s biography – said: “Bobby told me, <<Whitney and me are getting married again>>.
“They were planning a small wedding, probably in Las Vegas with just the two of them and their daughter Krissi. Bobby told me, <<The world may have thought we were history, but the reality is we were never really apart. We’ve never stopped loving each other>>.
“After his dad’s funeral in Boston in December he flew to Atlanta. For the next week Bobby holed up at Whitney’s home, where they rekindled their romance and their intimate relationship. They slept together in Whitney’s bedroom and talked about what kind of wedding they’d have.”
