Shakira and Gerard Pique have welcomed their second baby boy at 9.54PM on January 29 in Barcelona, Spain.
The baby boy, born by caesarean section, is called Sasha, Gerard Pique’s proud grandfather has confirmed. Amador Bernabéu told reporters that he had seen a photo of the baby, who supposedly looks like Gerard.
“He’s called Sasha which is Alexander in Russian,” said Amador Bernabéu.
“They’ve told me he looks like Gerard. Milan [the couple’s first son] looked like Shakira when he was born but this one looks more like his father.”
Amador Bernabéu hasn’t had a chance to see his new great-grandson because of a pressing engagement on Thursday. At midday he had an appointment to make Sasha a member of Barcelona FC, where Gerard Pique plays, just as he did for Milan.
Shakira revealed on her website that “the name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means <<defender of mankind>> and <<warrior>>.”
The brief statement also revealed that “both mother and child are in excellent health”.
Sasha was born two years after Milan made his debut in the very same hospital.
Milan turned 2 on January 22 and his parents both have their birthday on February 2, when Shakira will be 38, while her partner will be 28.
Expectation had been high in Catalonia with reporters camped outside the city’s Teknon Clinic as early as January 27. However, the couple kept up their normal routine, with Gerard Pique training as usual and even travelling to Madrid for a match on January 28.
On Thursday evening, Shakira and Gerard Pique slipped quietly into hospital by a side door, followed shortly afterwards by the singer’s brother.

Shakira’s hit song Loca was indirectly copied from another songwriter’s work, a federal judge in New York has found.
Judge Alvin Hellerstein said Shakira’s Spanish-language version of Loca in 2010 had infringed on a song by Dominican singer Ramon Arias Vazquez.
Shakira’s English language version of Loca – which featured Dizzee Rascal – was “not offered into evidence” at the trial.
However, the Spanish language version – a collaboration with Dominican rapper Eduard Edwin Bello Pou, better known as El Cata – was widely released as a single around the world. It went on to sell more than five million copies and topped Billboard Magazine‘s Latin charts.

It was also included on her 2010 album Sale el Sol. For English language markets, the album was titled The Sun Comes Out and both versions of the song were included.
In a ruling on Tuesday, Judge Alvin Hellerstein said that while the hit single had been based on an earlier version of a song recorded by Eduard Edwin Bello Pou [El Cata], that itself had been copied from Ramon Arias Vasquez’s original song.
“There is no dispute that Shakira’s version of the song was based on Bello’s version,” wrote the judge in his ruling.
“Accordingly, I find that, since Bello had copied Arias, whoever wrote Shakira’s version of the song also indirectly copied Arias,” he concluded.
Ramon Arias Vazquez penned his song Loca con su Tiguere in the 1990s, but El Cata has denied copying it.
The case has yet to determine damages for the plaintiff, Mayimba Music, which holds the rights to Ramon Arias Vazquez’s work.
Shakira’s song was distributed by Sony in both Spanish and English, but the copyright lawsuit mainly focused on the Spanish version.

Shakira will perform at this year’s World Cup closing ceremony, which takes place before the final in Rio de Janeiro on July 13.
The 37-year-old singer will perform La La La (Brazil 2014) at the Maracana stadium.
It is Shakira’s third consecutive appearance at a World Cup closing ceremony, after performing in South Africa in 2010 and in Germany in 2006.

Shakira, whose home team Colombia will face Brazil in the quarter-finals, said she was “thrilled” to be performing.
“I have an intricate relationship with football for obvious reasons, and I truly understand what the World Cup means to so many people, myself included,” the singer said in a statement.
“The fans have shown the most incredible support for this song and I can’t wait to perform it for them.”
Shakira had a son with Spanish defender Gerard Pique last year.
She also performed the official song of the 2010 World Cup – Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) – which is reportedly the biggest-selling World Cup song of all time.
The Brazil ceremony, which marks the end of a month of football, will also see Carlos Santana and hip-hop star Wyclef Jean perform the official anthem Dar Um Jeito alongside Brazil’s Alexandre Pires.
Ivete Sangalo will perform a medley of well-known Brazilian songs, while there will be a Samba performance by students from a school in Rio.

Footballer Gerard Piqué, Shakira’s boyfriend, tweeted a photo of his newly born son Milan – showing his tiny feet encased in a personalized pair of Nike trainers.
The trendy shoes boasted the baby’s name, Milan, along the side.
“Milan’s feet!” wrote Gerard Piqué.
And while they looked a little big for the newborn, they were certainly cute.
As a professional footballer for FC Barcelona in Spain Gerard Pique is obviously looking forward to introducing his son to the sport.

Shakira announced the pregnancy in mid-September on her blog.

Shakira recently announced she is expecting her first child together with Gerard Pique and now she has done another first.
Shakira, 35, who is around six-months pregnant, shared a picture of herself that shows off her baby bump for the very first time.
She looks positively radiant in the image that shows her in a lovely purple dress that cannot hide her growing bump.
The Colombian star posted the picture on Facebook on Saturday afternoon and added the caption: “Now I don’t have a six pack, only one pack!!”
Almost instantly after sharing the intimate photograph fans inundated her with well wishes and congratulations.
The picture received almost 50,000 comments and had near 400,000 people saying they liked it.
