Michelle Obama has released a memoir in which she reveals that she had a miscarriage and used in vitro fertilization to conceive both children, Malia and Sasha.
In the book, Becoming, the former first lady reveals difficulties about her marriage and pregnancy with her two daughters.
In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Michelle Obama said that she felt “lost and alone” after her miscarriage 20 years ago.
The first African-American first lady also criticized President Donald Trump for putting her family’s safety at risk.
Michelle and Barack Obama sought couples therapy, she also revealed for the first time in her 426-page book, which will be released on November 13.
Following publication, Michelle Obama will tour ten cities.
Michelle Obama, a former lawyer and hospital administrator, told ABC that after her miscarriage: “I felt like I failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them.”
She added that “it’s important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen”.
The former first lady also said that when she was around 34 years old, she realized that “the biological clock is real” and that “egg production is limited”, which made her decide to seek in-vitro fertilization.
She told Robin Roberts: “I think it’s the worst thing that we do to each other as women, not share the truth about our bodies and how they work.”
Michelle Obama revealed that the couple’s relationship struggled at times, especially after her husband joined the state legislature, leaving her at home where she was forced to administer IVF shots herself.
“Marriage counseling for us was one of those ways where we learned how to talk out our differences,” she said.
“I know too many young couples who struggle and think that somehow there’s something wrong with them. And I want them to know that Michelle and Barack Obama, who have a phenomenal marriage and who love each other, we work on our marriage.
“And we get help with our marriage when we need it.”
Michelle Obama also describes falling in love with the former president one summer night in Chicago.
In Becoming, Michelle Obama says she would “never forgive” Donald Trump for championing the “birther” theory that her husband was not born in the US, according to excerpts obtained by media.
She wrote: “The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed.”
“What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.”
Michelle Obama said she reacted in shock to Donald Trump’s presidential victory and “tried to block it all out”.
Before departing the White House for Paris on November 9, President Trump addressed some of the quotes from Michelle Obama’s book.
He said: “Michelle Obama got paid a lot of money to write a book and they always insist you come up with controversy. I’ll give you some back.”
Referring to his predecessor, Barack Obama, President Trump said: “I’ll never forgive him for what he did to our United States military by not funding it properly.”
President Barack Obama has revealed that his youngest daughter, Sasha, recently mocked him on Snapchat.
He said 15-year-old Sasha had recorded him discussing the social network at a family dinner and then quietly posted a reaction to her friends.
It is not the first time President Obama has discussed Sasha’s online activities.
In July, Barack Obama said Sasha also tweets, leading several media outlets to try to identify her account.
It remains secret.
Likewise a copy of the described Snapchat post has not been made public. Messages posted to the app are designed to disappear after being viewed or within a short period of time, but there are ways to circumvent the restrictions.
Barack Obama recounted the latest event on Monday’s edition of the Jimmy Kimmel Live TV show.
“Sasha gave me instructions on Snapchat,” said the president.
“One night at dinner we’re sitting there, and I had read that Snapchat was becoming really popular among her age cohort. So, I said: <<So, tell me about Snapchat.>>
“So, she starts explaining stuff – you can make little faces on your picture, and this and that and the other.
“And at the end of it, Michelle and I are sitting there. And I said: <<Isn’t this interesting?>>
“And I started talking to Michelle about the implications of social media and what all this means.

“[And I] come to find out she was recording us the whole time, and then sent to her friends afterwards: <<This is my dad lecturing us on the meaning of social media.>>
“And she took a picture of herself sort of looking bored.”
The president added that the first lady – who joined Snapchat in June – and his eldest daughter Malia had “loved” the post.
Jimmy Kimmel joked that the event represented a security breach.
Barack Obama also mentioned that his own iPhone was limited to receiving emails and browsing the internet, and would not take photos, play music or make calls.
“My rule has been throughout my presidency, that I assume that someday, some time, somebody will read this email,” he said.
“So, I don’t send any email that at some point won’t be on the front page of the newspapers.”
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has been beset by a scandal over leaked emails, while her rival Donald Trump has been accused of using outdated software on his company’s email servers.
Barack Obama also said that he expected technology to preoccupy his successor.
“One of the biggest challenges… is going to be: how do we continue to get all the benefits of being in cyberspace but protect our finances, protect our privacy?
“How do we balance issues of security? Because people expect the government to monitor this enough to protect them from bad guys.
“But they worry that if government is in there too much, then who is going to protect them from government?
“This is going to be a big debate that we’re going to have for a long time.”
GOP aide Elizabeth Lauten has resigned after accusing President Barack Obama’s daughters of lacking class.
Elizabeth Lauten, communications director for Congressman Stephen Fincher, gave up her post on December 1.
She earlier criticized Malia and Sasha Obama on Facebook following their appearance in short skirts at Thanksgiving turkey pardon ceremony.
She later took down the post and apologized for her “hurtful words”.
Elizabeth Lauten had also accused Malia and Sasha Obama of looking bored when they stood with their father at a traditional turkey pardoning event at the White House.
While most commentators reported humorously on what they saw as the uninterested expressions of Malia, 16, and Sasha, 13, throughout the ceremony, Elizabeth Lauten was notably more outspoken.
Her deleted post reads: “Dear Sasha and Malia: I get you’re both in those awful teen years, but you’re a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play.
“Then again, your mother and father don’t respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter. So I’m guessing you’re coming up a little short in the <<good role model>> department.”
The post goes on to advise Malia and Sasha Obama to “rise to the occasion and act like being in the White House matters to you”.
“Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar,” Elizabeth Lauten added.
In her subsequent apology, Elizabeth Lauten wrote: “After many hours of prayer, talking to my parents, and re-reading my words online I can see more clearly just how hurtful my words were.
“I’d like to apologize to all of those who I have hurt and offended with my words, and I pledge to learn and grow (and I assure you I have) from this experience.”
She pointed out that she “had judged the two young ladies in a way that I would never have wanted to be judged myself as a teenager”.
Sasha and Malia Obama are among the youngest presidential children at the White House for years.
First daughters Malia and Sasha Obama have been called disrespectful and classless by Republican Elizabeth Lauten for their attitude and clothes at this year’s Thanksgiving turkey pardoning ceremony.
Elizabeth Lauten, communications director for Republican congressman Stephen Fincher, made her comments in a Facebook post.
Her comments were heavily criticized and subsequently deleted.
Elizabeth Lauten has apologized for her “hurtful words”.
She attacked President Barack Obama’s girls over their choice of short skirts for the annual turkey pardoning event at the White House, and also for looking bored.
Malia, 16, and Sasha, 13, stood next to President Barack Obama during the ceremony.
Elizabeth Lauten said that the girls should “try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play”.
“Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar,” she added.
Elizabeth Lauten’s comment caused outrage on social media, amid accusations that she was “shaming” teenage girls.
First Lady Michelle Obama has announced that her daughter Malia will start driving this summer.
Michelle Obama commented on Malia’s milestone in a taped interview broadcast Tuesday by the entertainment news show Access Hollywood. It was a joint interview with actress Sarah Jessica Parker about the role of arts in education, but host Billy Bush could not resist asking Michelle Obama about her daughters, Malia, 15, and Sasha, 12.

Michelle Obama said Sasha loves dancing and does so several times a week in an organized program.
The first lady said her girls are like other teens in that they are anxiously counting down to the start of summer and getting ready for camp and internships.
“One child is going to be driving this summer,” the first lady said, jokingly adding: “Look out.”
Asked whether Secret Service agents would be in the back seat when Malia is behind the wheel, Michelle Obama said only that “we’ve got a plan”.
Malia Obama turns 16 on July 4, making her eligible for a learner’s permit in the District of Columbia.
Michelle Obama dodged questions about whether there is dating at the White House.
“You just want me to get pushed off the Truman Balcony,” Michelle Obama joked, suggesting that could be her punishment for revealing anything about her daughters’ dating lives.
