BlackBerry has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the company co-founded by Ryan Seacrest that makes a keyboard case for the iPhone.
On Friday, BlackBerry filed a lawsuit against Typo Products LLC, a company that makes a slip-on keyboard designed to fit the iPhone 5 and 5S.
The company Los Angeles-based company was founded by entrepreneur Laurence Hallier and television personality Ryan Seacrest. The company’s flagship product, the “Typo Keyboard,” was conceived to make typing on the iPhone quicker and less prone to typos.
Now the company might be wishing it went a little slower. The keyboard, BlackBerry alleges, violates the company’s intellectual property rights for copying BlackBerry’s own keyboard designs.

Instead of developing its own design, “Typo chose to copy BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard design as embodied in, among others, BlackBerry’s Q10 smartphone,” the lawsuit alleges, which was filed Friday in the U.S. district court in the Northern District of California.
“This is a blatant infringement against BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard, and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that attempts to copy our unique design,” said Steve Zipperstein, BlackBerry’s general counsel and chief legal officer, in a statement.
The suit seeks a trial by jury to obtain compensation for the copyright violation.
On Saturday, Typo issued a statement in response to the suit: “We are aware of the lawsuit that Blackberry filed against Typo Products. Although we respect Blackberry and its intellectual property, we believe that Blackberrys claims against Typo lack merit and we intend to defend the case vigorously. We are excited about our innovative keyboard design, which is the culmination of years of development and research.”
The statement added that the company plans to go ahead with its launch at International CES in Las Vegas and is on track to begin shipping pre-orders at the end of January.

The news comes just days after Chris Brown spoke at length with Ryan Seacrest about the pair’s reconciliation after he brutally beat her in a vicious 2009 attack, leaving her severely bruised and battered.
In his most candid interview yet, Chris Brown took full responsibility for the incident, admitting that the attack was completely his fault.

Miley Cyrus spoke excitedly about her “twerking” video that went viral this week during her interview on KIIS FM’s On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday morning.
“I can’t believe how many people think I’m good at twerking – which is dope -like my life goal has been accomplished,” Miley Cyrus told the radio host.
“I thought it was so weird, but I’m glad that everyone understands my humor.”

Nicki Minaj has threatened to quit American Idol on live TV during Thursday’s edition.
Nicki Minaj was furious to learn that her favorite contestant Curtis Finch Jr. – who at one point was being tipped as a possible winner – had landed in the bottom two of the Top 10.
Curtis Finch Jr. and Devin Velez received the fewest votes from viewers.
And when she discovered that the 24-year-old from St Louis, Missouri might be out, Nicki Minaj said she would quit the show.
“I definitely think Curtis should not be in the bottom two. I mean, I love Devin but I think that Curtis, if you look at every one of his performances, I mean – come on, America, are you kidding me?” she said.
“I didn’t think that your performance last night was your best, I think it was your worst.”
“Curtis, if you go home, I go home,” the singer said.
Fellow judge Keith Urban agreed in part, saying he was “a little shocked”.
But Nicki Minaj’s fears were realized after it was revealed that Curtis Finch Jr. actually got the fewest votes of all the contestants.

Tourists stood in Times Square for the better part of the day, braving the frigid New York City weather to spend New Year’s Eve under the dazzling lights of the theater district in midtown Manhattan. However, the event is often avoided by native New Yorkers, who tend to favor quieter and warmer celebrations.
A blocks-long line of bundled-up revelers with New Year’s hats and sunglasses boasting “2013” formed hours before the first ball drop in decades without Dick Clark, who died in April and was to be honored with a tribute concert and his name printed on pieces of confetti.
Security in Times Square was tight, with a mass of uniformed police and plainclothes officers assigned to blend into the crowd. With police Commissioner Ray Kelly proclaiming that Times Square would be the “safest place in the world on New Year’s Eve”, officers used barriers to prevent overcrowding and checkpoints to inspect vehicles, enforce a ban on alcohol and check handbags.

The star-studded lineup promises onlookers a show like no other but this year marks the sad absence of Dick Clark, the TV presenter whose legendary Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve has been a favorite on U.S. televisions every December 31 since its inception in 1974.
Dick Clark passed away in April at the age of 82.
He had already been training his heir apparent, radio personality, American Idol host and NBC correspondent Ryan Seacrest, and Seacrest will take the helm at the show tonight, carrying on Dick Clark’s legacy.
In advance of the midnight celebration, thousands of New Year’s revelers have already begun to pack into the waiting pens in Times Square to witness the annual tradition, as a crowd of one million people is set to make their way to the block party extraordinaire.
The waiting pens, set up to avoid a crowd surge, have been erected starting at West 40th St. and go all the way up to Central Park South around 59th St.
Police presence in the Broadway tourist trap is already intense but with the influx of visitors, law enforcement will be out in full force. Trash cans have already been removed, mail boxes sealed and handbags and vehicles are regularly being checked.
