Prince George’s name was announced two days after his birth, which is a relatively quick turnaround compared with previous royal babies.

Prince William’s name was announced after 7 days in 1982, and there was a wait of a month following Prince Charles’s birth in 1948.

The new royal will not be overtaken in the line of succession by any future younger brothers.

Under new rules which came into force in March, male bias was removed from the succession rules.

She will also be known as the Princess of Cambridge after a Letter Patent was issued by Queen Elizabeth II.

It declared: “All the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of prince or princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honor”.

The princess will also be able to marry a Roman Catholic without losing her place in line to the throne.

The birth announcement came just after 11:00 BST.

The statement from Kensington Palace added: “The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.”

The newborn princess joins the line of succession behind her grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William and brother Prince George, who was born at the same hospital in July 2013.

The princess is Queen Elizabeth II’s fifth great-grandchild.

Hundreds of well wishers have gathered outside St Mary’s Hospital to catch a first glimpse of the new princess.

There has been lots of speculation about a name from small girls in the crowd, from Disney-inspired Belle and Ariel to Alex, Stella and Rose.

A large number of journalists, photographers and broadcasters had gathered after the announcement that Kate Middleton was in labor.

Following the announcement of the birth, standing on the steps of the Lindo Wing, unofficial town crier Tony Appleton told crowds: “We welcome with humble duty the new baby of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Britain’s bookmakers say they have received thousands of bets on the second royal baby’s gender and possible name.

Most people seem convinced that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s newborn will be a girl, despite the lack of any solid evidence to back that up.

All the top bets for the baby’s name are for girls – Alice and Charlotte are the clear favorites, followed by Elizabeth, Victoria and Diana. All of the names have strong connections to royal tradition.Second royal baby name ods

Prince Charles has also signaled that he is hoping for a granddaughter, which led some to speculate that he has some inside information.

The British monarchy has not welcomed a princess born this high up the line of succession for many years.

Princess Anne, Prince Charles’ sister, was born third in line in 1950.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, were fifth and sixth in line at the time of their birth.

Kate Middleton has been admitted to a London hospital and is in the early stages of labor, the Kensington Palace has announced.

In a brief statement, Kensington Palace officials said the Duchess of Cambridge was admitted at 6 a.m. local time Saturday at St. Mary’s Hospital. She traveled by car to the Lindo wing with Prince William.

The baby will be a younger brother or sister to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s first child, Prince George.

Royal officials are not expected to provide any more information until the birth, which will be announced on Twitter and Instagram.

That announcement will say what gender the baby is, as well as its weight and the time of birth.

According to new reports, Kate Middleton may not go in to labor until as late as May 5th.

Originally the Duchess of Cambridge was said to be due on April 20, and reporters and fans have been waiting at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington since April 15 for the birth of the new baby, but it looks like they could be waiting another week.

While Buckingham Palace has not confirmed an official due date for Kate Middleton, 33, the Duchess previously revealed she was due to welcome her baby in “mid-tolate April”.Kate Middleton labor 2015

When the second baby does arrive, the announcement will not mimic Prince George’s arrival in 2013.

While Prince George’s arrival was announced via a press release and an official proclamation, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s second child will make his/her grand entrance on social media.

After sending out an initial press release, the palace will reportedly announce the gender, the time of birth and the weight of the baby on @KensingtonRoyal on Twitter.

As with Prince George’s birth in 2013, a birth notice will be placed on an easel outside of Buckingham Palace that will include the baby’s gender, weight and time of birth.

For the first time, a royal announcement will be a mix of tradition and technology.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will make the traditional appearance on the steps of the hospital when they leave.

Weeks ago, parking restrictions were put in place outside of that legendary brown door where Prince Will and Kate Middleton will present their baby to the world, much like they did when Prince George was born.

A sign outside of the hospital says the restrictions are in place for a “special event”.

Kate Middleton’s pregnancy with the second royal baby is overdue, but according to a new report, a birth should be expected within days.

Prince William has begun a four-day visit to Japan by taking part in a traditional tea ceremony in Tokyo.

The Duke of Cambridge spent about 40 minutes taking part in the ritual at Hama Rikyu Gardens.

He is on a week-long trip to China and Japan where he will undertake engagements to promote UK relations with both countries.

In his first visit to Japan, Prince William also took a speedboat ride to Tokyo Bay, which will host much of the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The last time a major member of British royal family visited Japan was in 2008, when Prince Charles came with his wife Camilla.

Hundreds of students and school children waving British and Japanese flags waited in the rain to greet him.

On the first day of his tour Prince William visited the Nakajima tea house, built 350 years ago in Japan’s Edo period, in the middle of a small lake within the Hama-Rikyu gardens.

As he entered the tea house, Prince William removed his shoes like the other guests, which included Tokyo governor Yoichi Masuzoe.

Dr. Genshitsu Sen, who is 92 and the 15th generation of his family to hold a senior role in the spiritual art of tea making, performed the traditional ceremony.

He also made tea for Prince William’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, when they visited Kyoto in 1986. Close to 100,000 people flocked to a parade in Tokyo at the time, as so-called “Diana Fever” swept the nation.

A number of gifts were given to Prince William, including a box of crackers, a book about the tea ceremony and a modern tea bowl decorated with a horse design in celebration of Prince George.

On February 27, Prince William is due to meet fellow royals Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the Imperial Palace.

The royals met player LeBron James and Jay-Z and Beyonce at the Barclays Center, where the Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Brooklyn Nets.

LeBron James – commonly known as King James – presented them with Cavaliers shirts.

He was among stars to wear T-shirts protesting against police violence.

The T-shirts carried the words “I can’t breathe”. They refer to last words spoken by Eric Garner, a black man who died after being held in an apparent chokehold by a white New York police officer.

It was the sixth straight night of protests in the city, following the December 3 decision by a grand jury not to press charges over the incident.

Images of Prince William, casually dressed in a blue and red checked shirt, and Kate Middleton in a grey jacket and jeans, were flashed up on the arena’s big screen, to cheers from the crowd.

Jay-Z and his singer wife Beyonce chatted to the royal couple during an interval.

At the end of the game, LeBron James, who led the Cavaliers to a 110-88 victory over the Nets, presented them with a Cavaliers shirt marked Cambridge and another carrying the name of their one-year-old son Prince George.

Prince William has met President Barack Obama at the White House as part of a three-day visit.

The talks were held in the Oval Office, in advance of delivering a speech to the World Bank on wildlife crime.

During the speech, Prince William described the illegal wildlife trade as “one of the most insidious forms of corruption and criminality in the world today”.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton visited a New York children’s centre.

Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived in New York on Sunday night, with the prince travelling to Washington alone on Monday.

At the White House, Prince William joked with Barack Obama about the birth of Prince George, saying: “The excitement of the event and everything else was just chaos.”Prince William meets Barack Obama

He added that he expects a “busy year” in 2015, when Kate Middleton is due to give birth to the royal couple’s second child.

Barack Obama said the prince’s work to protect endangered wildlife was “very important”.

Later, in his speech at the World Bank, Prince William said: “In my view, one of the most insidious forms of corruption and criminality in the world today is the illegal wildlife trade.”

He attacked those who “loot our planet to feed mankind’s ignorant craving for exotic pets, trinkets, cures and ornaments derived from the world’s vanishing and irreplaceable species”.

Prince William founded the umbrella organization United for Wildlife to try to preserve the planet’s most endangered animals and habitats.

The Duke of Cambridge has been the royal patron of Tusk since 2005. The charity supports projects in 17 African countries, aimed at protecting wildlife and alleviating poverty.

Before starting at St Andrews University, Prince William went on a gap year, some of which was spent in Africa learning about its wildlife and game conservation.

Paying tribute to his father, Prince Charles, and his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, he said: “They helped to bring about a revolution in attitudes towards our natural environment.”

He added: “From them, I learned that our relation to nature and wildlife goes to the heart of our identity as human beings. From our sheer survival, to our appreciation of beauty and our connection to all other living things.

“Seen in this light, the extinction of any of the world’s species of animals is a loss to all humanity.”

Prince William said wildlife crime “goes to the heart of our security”, “distorts economic development” and “fuels sources of conflict”.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have landed in New York for a tour of the US east coast.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in the US for three days, during which Prince William will meet President Barack Obama.

Kate Middleton, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, will accompany Prince William to pay respects to those who died in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Danny Lopez, the British consul general in New York, said there had been “incredible interest” in the visit.

He added there has been a huge “level of excitement” from people in the city.

Prince William is also expected to give a speech at a World Bank conference in Washington on combating illegal wildlife trafficking.Prince William and Kate Middleton in NYC

Highlighting the scale of the problem the prince is expected to say “some endangered species are now literally worth more than their weight in gold”.

Prince William is set to describe the trade in elephants tusks, rhino horns and other animal parts as “one of the most insidious forms of corruption and criminality in the world today”.

His speech is also expected to make reference to China, which has a market for endangered animal parts, and say that the wholesale price of ivory has risen from $5 to $2,100 per kilogram in the last 25 years.

Prince William will argue that this price hike has increased poaching around the world, and he will urge people to take action.

He will say: “Our collective goal must be to reduce the wildlife trade by making it harder: denying traffickers access to transportation, putting up barriers to their illegal activities, and holding people accountable for their actions.

“Those who look the other way, or spend the illicit proceeds of these crimes, must be held to account.”

And talking about those who engage in the trafficking of animal parts he will say: “Together they loot our planet, to feed mankind’s ignorant craving for pets, trinkets, cures and ornaments derived from the world’s vanishing and irreplaceable species.”

Prince William will be joined by former foreign secretary William Hague, who hosted the government’s conference on illegal wildlife trade in February.

President Barack Obama has welcomed Prince William’s work on the issue, which he called a “a devastating environmental problem”.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are also set to attend an NBA basketball match during the trip.

Kate Middleton will also visit an organization supporting families in Harlem called the Northside Centre for Child Development.

Prince William and Kate Middleton met One Direction, McBusted and Bette Midler when they attended the Royal Variety Performance.

Traditionally Queen Elizabeth alternates attendance with Prince Charles, but this year saw younger members of the royal family take their place.

Prince William revealed it was the first time he had seen Bette Midler perform, adding that she was “amazing”.

One Direction’s Harry Styles said the expectant Kate Middleton “didn’t look bumpy”.

Fellow One Direction singer Liam Payne said meeting the royal couple was “the most nervous I think I’ve ever been in my life”.

Kate Middleton, who is 16 weeks pregnant with her second child, enjoyed catching up with her old school friend, comedian Jack Whitehall.

Shirley Bassey, Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran were also performing at the show at the London Palladium, which was hosted by Michael McIntyre.

Last month it was confirmed that Kate Middleton and Prince William are expecting their second child.

As soon as the Royal family released the joyous news, everyone began speculating whether the new baby would be a Prince or Princess. Multiple sources have revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton have their hearts set on a daughter, and have even picked out possible names.

Last week, Star Magazine claimed that Kate Middleton is definitely pregnant with a girl and possibly even two girls. The cover of the tabloid reveals that Kate Middleton is already gaining baby weight, which happens this early in a pregnancy when the expecting mother is having twins, and Prince William already broke the news of twins to Queen Elizabeth.

The magazine also reveals that Kate Middleton’s mother has defied the Queen’s orders and moved in to the Palace to look over her daughter since her morning sickness is now two times as bad. Other reports claimed that Kate Middleton has moved home to stay at her mother’s house in Bucklebury.

However, in the November 3 issue of People magazine, it is confirmed by a palace spokesperson that Kate Middleton is not carrying twins.

Kate Middleton has made her first public appearance since announcing her second pregnancy, joining Prince William to welcome the president of Singapore in the UK.

Kate Middleton, who is about 12 weeks pregnant, is suffering from extreme morning sickness which has forced her to miss recent engagements.

However, her condition has improved and the duchess said she “had been looking forward to getting out of the house”.

Kate Middleton’s pregnancy was announced in September and the April due date was announced on October 20.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s second baby will become fourth in line to the throne, behind older brother Prince George, who was born in July last year.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s lawyers have asked a photographer to “cease harassing” Prince George and his nanny.

A Kensington Palace statement said they were prompted to take action after the man was spotted near 14-month-old Prince George in a central London park.

The statement said: “No parent would tolerate the suspicion of someone pursuing and harassing their child and carer.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton are not taking legal action at this stage.

The man had been warned off last week by royal protection officers and that he had also been spoken to “over a number of years” about his behavior.

The Kensington Palace statement added: “There is reason to suspect that the individual may have been placing Prince George under surveillance and monitoring his daily routines for a period of time.

“The duke and duchess understand the particular public role that Prince George will one day inherit but while he is young, he must be permitted to lead as ordinary a life as possible.”

Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo was named as the prince’s nanny in March when the palace appealed for her privacy to be respected.

Since his birth in July 2013, Prince William and Kate Middleton have posed for a number of official photographs with Prince George.

Prince George has also been pictured accompanying his parents on state visits and with the palace’s consent at other events.

The Independent Press Standards Organization (IPSO) editors’ code of practice states that young children “must not be interviewed or photographed on issues involving their own or another child’s welfare unless a custodial parent or similarly responsible adult consents”.

IPSO replaced the defunct Press Complaints Commission last month.

Pregnant Kate Middleton will no longer visit Malta this weekend on the advice of doctors, Kensington Palace has said.

The Duchess of Cambridge – who is pregnant with her second child and has been suffering from acute morning sickness – had been due to undertake her first official solo overseas visit.

Prince William will instead take the place of his wife, Kensington Palace has said.

“The decision not to travel was taken by the duke and duchess on the advice of the duchess’s doctors,” it added.

The royal couple made their decision on Wednesday night.

Kensington Palace said Kate Middleton “continues to suffer from the effects of Hyperemesis Gravidarum”, a sickness condition that can require supplementary hydration, medication and nutrients.

The trip would have seen the duchess mark the 50th anniversary of Malta’s independence.

In her place, Prince William will visit the national library to see letters from past British monarchs Henry VIII and George II, take part in Independence Day celebrations and a complete a number of walkabouts.

“The duke is honored to represent Her Majesty the Queen on the visit, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of Malta’s independence.

“The visit itinerary remains unchanged,” the palace added in the statement.

Prince William and Kate Middleton had been forced to announce their second pregnancy earlier this month before the duchess passed the significant 12-week milestone.

The announcement was made because she had been suffering from acute sickness – as she had with her first child Prince George, who was born in July 2013.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum affects 3.5 per 1,000 pregnancies, causes severe vomiting and can lead to dehydration, weight loss and a build-up of toxins in the blood or urine, called ketosis.

Prince William is to become an air ambulance pilot next spring, Kensington Palace has announced.

Kensington Palace said Prince William will join the East Anglian Air Ambulance flying both day and night shifts.

It will become the Duke of Cambridge’s main job, but his rota will take into account any duties he will continue to undertake on behalf of the Queen.

A spokesman said Prince William was “hugely excited and motivated” by the role.

“The duke sees this as a true form of public service, helping people in their most difficult times,” he said.

“He regards his work with the RAF search and rescue force as having been an exceptional privilege and the duke wanted to make his own contribution to the outstanding work of the air ambulance service.”

The charity’s chief executive, Patrick Peal, said: “We’re delighted His Highness has decided to fly with us.

“We are confident this will help raise the profile of the charity and other air ambulance charities in the region and across the UK.”

The charity said Prince William would be based at Cambridge Airport and fly missions in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Bedfordshire.

He will be paid a salary which he will donate in full to the charity, Kensington Palace said.

Cambridge Airport is well placed between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk and their apartment at Kensington Palace.

There had been speculation surrounding the move since Prince William, who is qualified to be a captain or pilot of a Sea King helicopter, ended his active service as an RAF search and rescue pilot last September.

During his service he carried out more than 150 missions and completed more than 1,300 flying hours.

His main duties will involve flying an EC145 T2 aircraft and working alongside medics to respond to emergencies ranging from road accidents to heart attacks.

In order to gain this license, Prince William must complete five months of training followed by 14 exams and a flight test.

Initially Prince William will be employed as a co-pilot but, after a period of training he will be qualified as a helicopter commander.

World leaders and royals have gathered for ceremonies marking 100 years since Britain joined World War One.

Prince Charles and UK’s PM David Cameron attended a service in Glasgow, while Prince William and Kate Middleton are in Belgium with many heads of state.

At the Liege ceremony, Prince William paid tribute to the soldiers who “died to give us our freedom”.

The day concludes with a candle-lit vigil at Westminster Abbey and a “lights out” event around the UK.

The public can join the switch-off ending at 23:00 – the time Britain declared war on Germany in 1914.

About 17 million soldiers and civilians were killed between 1914 and 1918.

The day’s events began in Liege, Belgium, where 50 heads of state gathered for a service to mark the invasion of Belgium.

French President Francois Hollande said Belgium had been the first battleground of WWI and had offered “solid resistance” in Liege.

Speaking to the gathered European leaders, Prince William said: “We were enemies more than once in the last century and today we are friends and allies.
