The conservative Louisiana family returns tomorrow night for Season 4 of their mega-hit A&E reality show Duck Dynasty.
The last time we the Robertsons was in April, when their Season 3 finale broke records for A&E, pulling in 9.6 million viewers to become the most-watched show in its history.
“It’s amazing how appealing these people are all over the country,” says Elaine Fontain Bryant, A&E’s senior vice president of nonfiction and alternative programming.
“We really haven’t come across many people who don’t love them.”
The Robertson family, which became millionaires selling duck calls – the whistles blown to flush out ducks – has proven to be popular even outside of reality TV.

They currently have two books on the New York Times bestseller list – Phil Robertson’s memoir Happy, Happy, Happy and Willie and Korie Robertson’s The Duck Commander Family – and three more books due out this fall, including another memoir, a devotional book and a cookbook.
The Duck Dynasty stars have got a Christmas album coming out in October, a theme cruise setting sail next summer (which is already sold out) and a line of prom dresses inspired by Sadie Robertson.
As if TV, books, music, travel and fashion weren’t enough, some Republicans are itching for Willie Robertson, the star of the show and CEO of the family business, to run for political office. An outside advisor to House GOP leadership told the Washington Examiner yesterday they hope for Willie Robertson to run for the 5th District Congressional seat left open by the exit of Louisiana Republican Rodney Alexander.
Of the tidal wave of fame, straight-shooting patriarch Phil Robertson tells The New York Post: “Our greatest fear is that we come out on the other side of this thing acting like Charlie Sheen.”

Duck Dynasty stars have spent much of the summer doing the rounds on the speaking circuit, rubbing shoulders with everyone from Tim Tebow to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal to Sarah Palin.
They conservative Louisiana family was just celebrated at Rick Warren’s church for a congregation-wide Duck Dynasty day – spreading a message founded on their Christian faith, promoting family values and, of course, the right to bear arms.
Phil Robertson, the family patriarch who is the family’s camo decked evangelist, joined forces with his oldest son, Alan, a Church of Christ minister to headline Warren’s event on July 21.
Warning members against “political correctness trumping Biblical correctness”, Phil Robertson preached multiple messages to the thousands who turned out for the festivities – which included a beard-growing contest.
The stars of the popular show, among cable’s most watched programs, still run their multi-million dollar hunting goods company and have expanded their empire to produce everything from camo-emblazoned Christian devotionals, cigars, onesies bearing the Duck Commander logo and duck calls that retail from $9.95 to $179.95.
Phil Robertson, who began the duck call manufacturing operation from meager beginnings in 1972, appears on Duck Dynasty with his wife, Miss Kay, and his hilarious brother with a sweet tea addiction, Uncle Si.
Three of Phil Robertson’s four sons – the straight talking Jase, Willie (who followed his father as CEO of the company) and the youngest, and indulged, Jep – have all appeared on the show since Season 1.

Describing himself as the “normal one,” Alan Robertson will be joining Duck Dynasty Season 4 that premieres August 14.
The self-proclaimed rednecks, with a lovable loathing for yuppies, have not allowed their stardom get to their heads but have become some of the most sought after stars for engagements far and away from their homebase of Monroe, Louisiana.
This May, Willie Robertson – the family’s third born who runs the Duck Commander company – rubbed shoulders with GOP darlings at the NRA convention, and was even rumored to be under consideration to join the gun group’s board.
Then in July, Willie Robertson was the star at LifeWay’s Main Event, a men’s conference sponsored by the Southern Baptist convention.
Father of five Willie Robertson, 41, will return to Nashville in August to deliver an address at the Cornerstone church, where an estimated 10,000 are expected to turn out.
Though Willie Robertson gets a lot of attention on the show, the other Roberston family members can still bring out a crowd.
Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, invited Phil, Kay and Si Robertson to speak at their annual Don Meyer Evening of Excellence fundraiser in April.
In 2010, Tim Tebow had spoken at the event and the school was doubtful they could ever “top the buzz of Tebow” but the Robertsons did.
The event sold out so quickly, they added another talk and then a third talk in order to accommodate the demand.
People from 17 states purchased tickets and flew in from across the country to join the 15,000 who turned out to hear the Robertson trio banter on stage.
It was the biggest event ever in the school’s 125 year history.
Though much of the event focused on the hilarious antics of the family business, the talk closed with a spiritual message from Phil Robertson – where he presented the Gospel and invited attendees to accept Christ.
High says that the family’s Christian beliefs are a non-negotiable when they agree to speak.
“I’ve never seen them speak anywhere where there is not a specific, Christian faith element,” Phil Robertson said.
Back in April, Si Robertson told The Tennessean that though the show runs on A&E, the cable network isn’t the one in charge of the future.
“The Almighty is running this thing and he’s gonna take it where he wants it to go,” Si Robertson told The Tennessean, in between sips of iced tea.

Duck Dynasty fans were likely stunned when rumors started circulating that one of the show’s stars and the family’s patriarch, Phil Robertson, could be leaving the show.
In an interview with Parade magazine for its July 28 issue, Phil Robertson was asked how much longer he plans on being on the show.
His response was: “Not long. But I think it’ll go on without me.”
However, according to TheBlaze, Alan Robertson, Phil’s oldest son who will be joining the family for Season 4, said: “There is no set time for Dad to leave.”
“He just meant that he can’t see himself doing the show for as long as all of us <<young bucks>> [Phil Robertson’s affectionate term for his boys].”

“There are no plans for anyone to leave Duck Dynasty anytime soon,” Alan Robertson, who’s also a pastor, added.
“We do appreciate the love for the Robertson family out there and are looking forward to a great upcoming season and [those] beyond that will include Mom and Dad.”
As for Alan Robertson, he recently told the New York Post he’s excited to join the show because of what it means for spreading his faith.
“What I do for our church – you see, it’s a pretty good-sized church – impacts a lot of people, but because of my association with the show, I’ll get to minister to a lot more people,” he said.
“Any person that’s an evangelist, that’s what you want to do, so I had to give this up for something possibly bigger.”
Alan Robertson reiterated that the family has been upfront with the network about their beliefs from the beginning – and the network was okay with it.
“From Day 1, Dad held up his Bible and said, <<This is part of our lives, is this going to be in?>> ” Alan Robertson told the Post.
“And they were like, <<That’s in, that’s part of who you are>>.”

Duck Dynasty fans’ favorite Uncle Si Robertson, who says God has a sense of humor because he’s turned four disheveled-looking Christian guys into reality television stars, will be releasing his new book next month.
Si Robertson, the youngest brother of family patriarch, Phil Robertson, works at Duck Commander where he’s been making the reeds for duck calls since his retirement from the U.S. Army, and shares anecdotal advice and stories about life in his book, titled Si-cology 1: Tales and Wisdom from Duck Dynasty’s Favorite Uncle.
Phil Robertson’s brother, who’s known for his storytelling and for saying that he carries three items along with him everywhere he goes: tea, the Tupperware cup his parents sent to him during the Vietnam War, and his Bible, told LifeWay that the Robertson family gives God the glory for all of their success.
“Hey, it’s unreal,” Si explained.
“Cause if you asked any of the Robertson men who’s behind all this – [people] ask Willie all the time, <<How did you become so successful?>>”

The answer that Willie Robertson provides, according to Si, is: “Hey, that would be the Almighty. He’s the one that has made this a success.”
Speaking about God, Si Robertson said that although a lot of people don’t believe God has a sense of humor, he quipped that the lives of the Robertson men is proof that He does, and in abundance.
“God has got a great sense of humor, OK. Because, hey, look as Jase. God has taken four guys that look like about five miles of muddy road and made them famous in the TV world.”
He then turns the tables on nonbelievers and asks what it is they depend on for support when they receive bad news, such as receiving a diagnosis of a terminal illness.
“The only thing I’d say is: I wonder, when people run into bad times, they go to the doctor and find out, <<I’m dying with cancer>>, and they don’t believe in God, where do they turn to?”
Si Robertson continues: “We’re all mortal. We’re all going in that grave. And there ain’t but one way that you’re going to beat it that I know of. Like Phil always tells them: <<If you’ve got something to offer me, better than what I just shared with you, I’m all ears; I’m ready to hear it>>. Because that’s the only one I ever heard that beat the grave.”
“And he promised you that since He beat it, if you believe in Him, He’ll make you beat it.”
Si Robertson’s 240-page book that will be available on September 3 will include family photos, and anecdotes and stories about his childhood, duck hunting, his days in college, the Vietnam War, and his wife, Christina, and their two children, Scott and Trasa.
Duck Dynasty Season 4 will broadcast at 10 p.m. EST on Wednesday, August 14.

Si Robertson distracts Phil and Kay by taking them on a “trip down memory lane” to different places that were meaningful in their relationship.
The high school sweethearts will say “I do” again underneath an altar of flowers and animal antlers, in a ceremony officiated by their unbearded pastor son, Alan Robertson, who will make his debut this season.
According to A & E, Duck Dynasty was the highest-rated non-fiction series on cable last year. Nearly 8.5 million people tuned in on average to watch the hi-jinks of Louisiana’s most famous bearded brothers.

In a recent interview with Parade magazine, Phil Robertson hints that he’ll likely leave the A&E hit reality show in the not-too-distant future.
Asked how much longer he plans to be involved, the Duck Commander founder replies: “Not long.”
But that doesn’t mean the series will end.
“I think it’ll go on without me,” Phil Robertson muses.
Since its premiere in the spring of 2012, Duck Dynasty has accumulated millions of fans, many of whom flock to the Robertson family’s Duck Commander warehouse just to catch a glimpse of the stars.

“I told Missy, my wife, the only person I’d stand in line for is God Almighty,” Phil Robertson’s son Jase tells Parade.

Jase Robertson appears on the show with his father, Uncle Si, and brothers Willie and Jep, all of whom have long, full beards. But come August, when Season 4 premieres on A&E, there will be another face on the show – eldest brother, clean-shaven Alan, who recently rejoined the business.
Doing the show has brought the family “a whole lot closer,” Willie Robertson tells Parade.
“It’s probably the opposite of most reality shows. And nobody gets a big head because we’re all doing it together.”
In fact, fame doesn’t seem to have changed the group much at all. While some episodes feature situations suggested by producers, Jase Robertson insists they never do anything out of character.
“They come up with ideas, but I get to be myself in those ideas,” he tells Parade.
“One day when we were gonna play golf, a wardrobe person brought me a pair off knickers,” he recalls.
“I guess they thought that would be funny. But I don’t wear knickers. They said, <<A&E wants you to>>. I was like, <<I don’t care!>>”
Willie Robertson sensed the show could be good for business, but he had one hesitation: the name, Duck Dynasty.
“I thought, <<That sounds like a Chinese food place!>>” Willie Robertson quips.
Duck Dynasty’s Willie and Korie Robertson have five kids: John Luke, Will, Bella, Rebecca, and Sadie.
The eldest Robertson child is also the newest to the family, Rebecca. Rebecca came to the Robertsons as an exchange student from Taiwan, but then became their foster daughter.

John Luke is the eldest boy and the one who has been on Duck Dynasty most often. We’ve seen John Luke on a date (chaperoned by grandfather, Phil Robertson), playing video games with cousin Cole, and generally hanging around the house during filming.
Sadie’s been right in the middle of Duck Dynasty, too. We’ve seen her cook with her grandmother, Miss Kay, and climb under the house for her granddad, Phil. But, getting driving lessons from Uncle Si provided her most memorable screen time.
Will was the third Robertson child to join the family, adopted at birth before Bella was born and before Rebecca joined the family. Will shows up on camera now and then, but we haven’t heard much from him yet.
And then there’s the youngest, Bella. Let’s hope we get a chance to get to know her on the show, too.

The sermon series has brought influential American preachers and leaders to the Southern California church to share their experiences as disciples of Jesus Christ. Phil and Alan Robertson’s message to the church will align with the topic of following God and will feature their take on being a believer.
Alan Robertson, who will lead the sermon, is the senior pastor at White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in Louisiana and recently decided to join his family as the newest cast member for Duck Dynasty Season 4 that will premiere on August 14. He recently told the New York Post that his intention is to spread the Gospel beyond the members of his own congregation.

Duck Dynasty has reached a wide fan base ranging from outdoorsmen to Christians, and its ratings beat out American Idol during its third season, which broke the network’s viewer ratings. Oftentimes, the cast members display their Christian beliefs in the episodes and are seen at the end of each program engaging in prayer.
Throughout the course of three years, the Robertson family has gained fame, and plenty of attention since their show began, which is something that Alan admitted he may not be fully prepared for.
“My children are grown, but all of my brothers’ children are teenagers now, so how is this crazy world going to impact them?” he told the Post.
“We think about John, Luke and Sadie, who are such a big part of the show and they’re teenagers, you know? They need to be just normal teenagers. We pray about that.”
Along with the success of their reality show, the family has become a household name through other ventures as well.
Phil Robertson released a new book earlier this year, Happy, Happy, Happy: My Life and Legacy as the Duck Commander, in which he details his life, including his wild early years and his take on parenthood, God, and of course, duck hunting. Other members also have books on the market, including Miss Kay Robertson, the matriarch of the clan.
If fans still cannot get enough of the Duck Dynasty crew, they will have the opportunity to vacation with them on the Duck Commander cruise during a four-night sail to the Caribbean next summer. Country star and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery will also join the cruise to provide onboard entertainment.

So what’s Phil Robertson’s advice for creating such a close, happy family? He said his kids were raised with a balance of discipline and independence.
“We had a code. I told them that I’d give them three licks if they disrespected their mother, if they were fist fighting with each other, and if they ever tore up perfectly good equipment for no good reason,” Phil Robertson told FOX 411 back in May about his parenting style.
But that by no means meant he didn’t show his kids affection.
“I made sure we loved them and we taught them to love their neighbor.”

Phil Robertson said the boys were also taught a lot about respect.
“When it came to teachers I told them, <<You’re going to have great teachers, fair teachers and some are going to be poor but always remember they are your teacher. Shut up and sit down and obey them and get out with a fair grade and onto the next one>>. I backed the teachers no matter what,” he said.
The family’s close relationships can now be seen by millions, as they work together in front of the cameras.

After all, the Season 3 finale caused the show to smash its own record for highest-rated telecast in A&E history with a whopping 9.6 million viewers.

In the late 1960s in Ruston, Louisiana, two Bulldog quarterbacks’ life paths diverged sharply.
One was Terry Bradshaw, who went on to attain the top pick in the 1970 NFL Draft, a lengthy career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, four Super Bowl victories, a spot in the Hall of Fame and a second career in front of the camera.
The other one was Phil Robertson, who was ahead of Terry Bradshaw on Louisiana Tech’s depth chart but gave up football with one year of eligibility remaining because the game and any future in it interfered with his heart’s dearest passion: duck-hunting season.
“At the time, no one quite understood what exactly was my problem because I didn’t put football as the ultimate goal, being this stud hoss football player, but what they didn’t see then, they get it now,” Phil Robertson said.
“Because as it turns out, what am I talking about now?”
Phil Robertson, now 67, was referring to the duck call business he started out of his home, which became the Duck Commander regime and led some 40 years later to the creation of Duck Dynasty, which airs on A&E.
Coming out of Vivian, Louisiana’s North Caddo High School, Phil Alexander Robertson said he fielded offers to join the football programs at LSU, Ole Miss, Baylor and Rice, but chose Louisiana Tech to remain close to home. After redshirting his freshman year, he was joined by some soon-to-be famous company on the depth chart.
“The quarterback playing ahead of me, Phil Robertson, loved hunting more than he loved football,” Terry Bradshaw wrote in his autobiography, It’s Only a Game.
“He’d come to practice directly from the woods, squirrel tails hanging out of his pockets, duck feathers on his clothes. Clearly he was a fine shot, so no one complained too much.”
Asked whether there was any truth to the squirrel tails anecdote, Robertson one-upped his own legend:”Squirrel guts! Squirrel guts hangin’ out my pocket!”
He spoke fondly of Terry Bradshaw and of his time with the Bulldogs, though he’s never been back since giving up football. “Bradshaw’s a great guy,” Phil Robertson said.

“I was the one that named him the Blond Bomber, and while he was at Tech, I said <<Son, you’ve got the want to and the drive to play in the NFL, you got a great arm>>, and I said <<You got brains>>, and when I got to brains, Bradshaw said, <<Are you serious about the brains?>> I said, <<Well, you have enough sense to play in the NFL>>. As it turned out, I put it this way, he must’ve been smart enough to win four Super Bowls.”
After three letter-winning seasons and with one year of eligibility remaining, Phil Robertson had had enough. He says he spurned interest from the Washington Redskins and went after the ducks full time in the fall while completing his undergraduate degree. “Bradshaw will tell the story better than I do,” Phil Robertson said.
“To put it bluntly, he was very happy that I chose ducks because he moved up a slot. I was blessed with a good arm, or Bradshaw wouldn’t have been playing second string to me.
“But you gotta remember, my heart was then and to this day — let me put it this way: Throwing a touchdown pass to a guy running down the sideline, and he runs down with the ball for six, it was fun. However, in my case, it was much more fun to be standing down in some flooded timber with about 35 or 40 mallard ducks comin’ down on top of me in the woods. That did my heart more good than all the football in the world.”
Phil Robertson went to work as a schoolteacher for several years after graduating from Tech, obtaining his master’s degree in education via night classes, with a concentration in English.
“I kinda liked ol’ Shakespeare and them guys, you know,” Phil Robertson said.
“I went back and got my master’s just in case. I thought, if I ever needed it, I’d have the sheepskin to show people no matter how dumb I looked, actually I was about half intelligent. I got the degree to let ‘em know I wasn’t as dumb as I acted.”
And all the while, Phil Robertson continued to hone his hunting craft. Dissatisfied with commercial duck calls, he began producing and selling his own about 40 years ago. These led to a series of duck-hunting videos that began 25 years ago, which led in turn to stints on the Outdoor Channel. Then came the call from A&E.
“Let’s face it, the bar has been set pretty low for you to get on American television these days. I think they said, <<Why don’t we try a functional family>>, and somebody said well, that’s a novel idea. Round here, you know, there’s no outbursts, belligerence, cursing, gettin’ drunk, dope, no, we’re all Godly people, so maybe it’s a little switch for a change. We’re not actually rednecks, but we probably could be called goodoleboys,” Phil Robertson said.
The Duckmen are under no-shave, no-laundry policies during the 10-week season.
“We shower our bodies during the hunting season, but under no circumstances do we ever wash our clothes,” Phil Robertson said. “We hang ‘em up and let ‘em air dry. We begin to look like the landscape around us, you know what I’m sayin’? Oh, they’ll get it. Hey, life is good, life is good.”

The high school sweethearts started dating when Kay was just 14 and got married in 1966 when she was 16. They were practically an old married couple when Phil Robertson attended Louisiana Tech on a football scholarship; he even started ahead of the now-legendary Terry Bradshaw and turned down an offer to play in the NFL to concentrate on duck hunting.
“They had me there when they first got to Tech, so he was also a little different than the modern athlete,” their oldest son, Alan Robertson, told ESPN.

“He already had a family at that young of an age. I think that hunting, some of it was just providing for us. So I think that changed a bit of his attitude and allowed him to walk away a little bit easier, you know.”
Phil Robertson and Miss Kay’s love story hasn’t always been happy, though. In the ’70s, Phil Robertson was “headed south” – running a bar, drinking, getting into fights.
In his autobiography, The Duck Commander Family, son Willie Robertson recounts how his father Phil kicked out his family in a drunken rage, then begged Miss Kay to come back.
“What kept me there? What made me stay with him? It was words my grandmother said: <<One man, one wife, for one life>>,” Kay Robertson told Sports Spectrum.
Phil Robertson turned to religion to change his life, and Miss Kay forgave him. They’re still together more than 45 years later!

So starts the first of what Clayton Homes President and CEO Kevin Clayton said will likely be many commercials that the popular reality TV stars will do for the Maryville-based manufactured home company.
“The kind of people who build our homes and who are our customers are exactly the kind of people they relate to,” Kevin Clayton said.
Clayton Homes has signed an agreement with Phil, Kay and Si Robertson from the popular A&E show.
The deal includes production of a 30-second TV spot that was run in seven markets, a contest in connection with the commercial in which seven winners got to visit the Robertsons in West Monroe, Louisiana, and an appearance by the three stars at the Tunica Manufactured Housing Show in Tunica, Mississippi.
“We have some other stuff in the works, but nothing we can talk about yet,” said Brian McNew, head of the creative team at JAOPRO, the Knoxville-based advertising company that produced the commercial.

Kevin Clayton said the commercial was a test shot that aired in Raleigh, North Carolina, Louisville, Kentucky, Charleston, South Carolina, and other markets but not in Knoxville.
Duck Dynasty, which premiered on A&E in 2012, was the network’s most-watched show at its season finale in April. According to the network, the finale drew 9.6 million viewers, breaking ratings records.
The show follows the Robertson family, who built a home-based operation making duck calls into a multi-million-dollar sporting business. The family consists of: Phil Robertson, the patriarch who developed the Duck Commander duck call in 1973; his wife, Kay, the matriarch known for her cooking talents from banana pudding to crawfish pie; his son Willie, who is now CEO of the company; and Willie’s wife, Korie; Willie’s brother Jase; and Phil’s brother Si, who is a bit of a loose cannon in the family operation.
The Clayton Homes arrangement is not with the producers of the Duck Dynasty show, but only with the three cast members, Kevin Clayton said. He declined to say how much the company is investing in its contract with the stars, but believes it will be well worth the price.
“We ran the first commercial in seven markets and the results were off the charts,” he said.
“And we do believe we will receive double-digit results on what we have invested.”
Rogan P. Oliver, director of marketing for JAOPRO, saw two key advantages to a company like Clayton Homes linking its advertising to a reality show like Duck Dynasty.
One is simply the immense popularity of the program. According to network figures, Duck Dynasty Season 3 finale reached 5.6 million people in the 25-54 age demographic, 5.5 million in the 18-49 demographic and 2.6 million people in the 18-34 demographic.
The wide range of viewers gives Clayton Homes a chance to reach people outside its normal market, but Kevin Clayton and Rogan P. Oliver both said the other key advantage is the close match between the demographics of the show and those of Clayton Homes customers.
Duck Dynasty features a close-knit, backwoods family full of colorful characters who get into conflicts, but there are no scandalous situations and no bad language. Members of the show make no bones about the importance of God and family. Each episode ends with the family at the dining table, bowing their heads in prayer.
“The whole thing is the content of the show. It’s just a clean program. You can sit down with your child or your grandparents and you don’t have to worry about the language or anything,” Rogan P. Oliver said.
Kevin Clayton said the values expressed in the program are shared by his company and its customers.
He noted that cast members received a very warm reception when they visited Clayton Homes’ building facility in Savannah, Tennessee, recently.
The employees thought they were getting a visit from Kevin Clayton to mark the completion of their 15,000th home, but were surprised to see Phil Robertson, Miss Kay and Uncle Si as well.
“Phil sat at one end of the table with about 200 of our team members and gave the blessing, just like on the show,” Kevin Clayton said.
The reality stars – who worked hard to build a business and who value family – share much with his customers, too, he said.
“Our customers are hardworking Americans and many live from paycheck to paycheck, but we know what they have accomplished and how hard they work, and we know how important faith and family is to them.”
