According to official figures, the US economy added 113,000 jobs in January, weaker than expected for a second consecutive month.
Economists had predicted an increase of about 180,000 new jobs last month.
However, the unemployment rate fell to 6.6%, the lowest level since October 2008, as more people began looking for work.

The jobless figures will raise concern that, after a strong second half of 2013, growth in the US economy is beginning to lose its steam.
Earlier this week an unexpectedly weak manufacturing report raised concerns about the strength of the US economy and sent the Dow Jones tumbling by 326 points.
December’s surprisingly weak figure was revised up only modestly to 75,000, from 74,000.
The construction industry, most vulnerable to the impact of bad weather, added 48,000 in January indicating that while the weather may been responsible for December’s weak figures, it does not appear to have been a factor in January.

Speaking as “MTV’s celebrity baby correspondent”, Jersey Shore’s Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi offered some tips for Kim Kardashian, whose pregnancy has been highly watched by her fans and the media.
In a video on her blog called “Snooki’s Celebrity Baby Report”, the pint-sized reality star dished out some much needed advice for Kim Kardashian.
“I know everything there is to know about how to look glam during labor,” Snooki wrote in the accompanying blog.

“It’s a b****, but it’s worth it!”
Snooki, 25, whose labor took a painstaking 27 hours to complete, said she spent the time putting on make-up and watching cartoons.
“First impressions are everything, so when you meet your baby for the first time, you have to be flawless.”
She also warned to take into account the color palette in the hospital room – whose “boring white walls” are “not a good look”.
“Choose a pink or a red – stay away from the nudes, you want to make sure you look good.”
And what’s the best tip for Kim Kardashian should her water break while she’s out of the house?
Make sure to keep an extra pair of fake eyelashes at the ready.
“Or just do what I did and bring a whole box,” Snooki said.
There’s also the trouble with those drab hospital gowns.
Snooki advises that Kim Kardashian ought to bring her own, and shows off her stylish leopard print satin choice.
“It made me feel beautiful while I was in labor.”
Snooki added that she thinks Kim Kardashian “would be in more a couture/designer, maybe Dolce & Gabbana gown”.
As far as accessioning for that perfect first baby snap, Snooki advises to stay away from hoop earrings “because they can get caught in your extensions”, and instead opt for sparkling diamond studs.
With Kim Kardashian battling those extra pounds, Snooki advised to bring a scarf to avoid exposing those “million double chins”.
“Cover that s***t up,” she added.
For those like Kim Kardashian who have chosen not to ditch their beloved heels while with child, Snooki advises to say goodbye to those stilettos and instead opt for a pedicure.
“You always want your feet to be nice and pretty when you give birth. You don’t want any gross calluses because your feet are literally in the air for everyone to see.”
And for those emotional last moments in labor, Snooki dishes her best advice – waterproof make-up.
“You’re going to cry with the pain of pushing a baby out of your vagina – and also when you look at your baby for the first time.
“And trust me, you do not want to look like a zebra.”
