Nirvana has been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside the likes of Kiss and Beatles manager Brian Epstein.
REM’s Michael Stipe inducted the group, saying: “Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard.
“Nirvana were kicking against the mainstream. They spoke truth and a lot of people listened.”
Nirvana’s career was cut short by Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994. His widow, Courtney Love, attended the ceremony.

“You know, I have a big speech, but I’m not going to say it,” Courtney Love said, before hugging Kurt Cobain’s bandmates Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl.
“That’s it,” she concluded.
“I just wish Kurt was here to do this.”
Dave Grohl, Nirvana’s drummer and now frontman of rock group Foo Fighters, paid tribute to the musicians who formed the early line-ups of Nirvana, in particular drummer Chad Channing, who he singled out for his contributions to the band’s breakthrough album Nevermind.
Bass guitarist Kris Novoselic added: “Nirvana fans walk up to me every day and say thank you for the music.
“When I hear that, I think of Kurt Cobain.”
Nirvana received their place in the Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. Artists can only be considered for the honor 25 years after their first release.

Courtney Love did not defame her former lawyer Rhonda Holmes in a 2010 Twitter post, a jury said on Friday.
The verdict comes after an eight-day trial that centered on Courtney Love’s statements against San Diego-based lawyer Rhonda Holmes.
Courtney Love, 49, hired Rhonda Holmes to pursue a case against the estate of her late husband, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. The case was never filed and Rhonda Holmes said Courtney Love fired her.

Attorneys for Courtney Love maintained that she meant for the post to be a private message and few people saw it.

Courtney Love attended and testified at the trial but was not present when the verdict was read.

Frances Bean Cobain outing comes as proceedings against her accused stalker Marc James Franco were suspended after he was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial.
She may also have to testify if the case does reach trial.
Marc James Franco, 23, was arrested on October 13 last year after entering Frances Bean Cobain’s Hollywood Hills home and was later charged with first degree burglary.

When she was 17-years-old, Frances Bean Cobain got a restraining order against her mother, and went to live with other family members.
It was later revealed in legal documents that the order was granted due to domestic violence claims against Courtney Love by her daughter.
Frances Bean Cobain now lives in a $1.8 million home in the Hollywood Hills that she purchased with her trust fund set up after her father, Kurt Cobain’s, death.
The micro-blogging website clearly hasn’t banned her mother as Francis Bean Cobain recently suggested they should.
Courtney Love made a public apology to her daughter via her page earlier this year after Frances Bean Cobain asked for her to be banned.
Courtney Love is planning a film about her late husband Kurt Cobain’s life.
Courtney Love, 48, is working on either a musical or a movie about the lives of her and her late Nirvana singer husband, who committed suicide in 1994.
Sam Lutfi, who claims to be her co-manager, said: “[Courtney Love and I] are currently working on a possible motion picture or Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalogue, based on her life and Kurt Cobain’s. She’s an accomplished actress.”
Sam Lutfi made his claims in a Los Angeles court, where he is suing former client Britney Spears’ parents for libel and breach of contract.
A source close to Courtney Love confirmed the movie plans, telling the New York Daily News newspaper: “She’s been talking about doing a movie or play about her life with Kurt for a long time.
“It’s been her dream to get her side of the story out.”

However, the source also added: “So far, nothing has materialized,” from Courtney’s ideas and she’s “never made any serious actions to do it”.
Courtney Love’s acting career includes appearing in The People Vs. Larry Flynt in 1996, 200 Cigarettes in 1999 and Straight to Hell Returns in 2010.
