Nurse Jacintha Saldanha died on Friday in an apparent suicide after she transferred a hoax call from Australian DJs who retrieved sensitive information about Kate Middleton while in King Edward WII Hospital.
Jacintha Saldanha, 46, also known as Jess, is thought to have come to the UK from southern India ten years ago and settled in the UK with her partner, 49-year-old hospital accountant Benedict Barboza.
The couple bought their £123,000 three-bedroomed home in 2005 in the Westbury-on-Trym district of Bristol.
After registering as a nurse in 2003 when she initially worked for the North Bristol NHS Trust, which runs Frenchay and Southmead hospitals, it is believed the nurse chose to apply for a job at King Edward VII four years ago and appears to have been living in the nursing accommodation ever since.

She has a son called Junal, 16, and daughter, believed to be 14. She stayed in London when she was working before returning to her family on days off.
Jacintha Saldanha is thought to have been from the Mangalore region of India. She is thought to have spent time in the Middle East before moving to Britain.
The hospital said Jacintha Saldanha had not been disciplined over the call.
The death of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who took a hoax call about the Duchess of Cambridge, was a “tragedy”, Australian 2Day FM radio station which broadcast it has said.
Rhys Holleran, chief executive of the company that owns Sydney radio station 2Day FM, said DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian were “completely shattered” by the death of Jacintha Saldanha, 46.
Mel Greig and Michael Christian posed as the Queen and Prince Charles in a call on Tuesday morning.
The station later suspended adverts, and the show has been taken off-air.
Speaking at a press conference in Melbourne, Rhys Holleran, chief executive of Southern Cross Austereo, said he did not think any laws had been broken.
This was in contrast to a statement on Tuesday by hospital chief executive John Lofthouse, who said he had “received advice that what the Australian broadcasters did may well have broken the law”.
Mel Greig and Michael Christian telephoned the hospital early on Tuesday morning, and recorded the call. It was then assessed by the station’s lawyers before being broadcast on 2Day FM.
Jacintha Saldanha, a duty nurse, answered the phone because it was 05:30 GMT and there was no receptionist on duty.
She put the pair through to Kate Middleton’s nurse, who unwittingly revealed details of the pregnant duchess’s medical condition.
The duchess had been admitted on Monday for acute morning sickness, and was discharged on Thursday.
Rhys Holleran told journalists that Mel Greig and Michael Christian’s show would not be returning until further notice.
He said: “This is a tragic event that could not have been reasonably foreseen and we are deeply saddened by it.”
But he added: “I think that prank calls as a craft in radio had been going on for decades. They are done worldwide and no-one could reasonably have foreseen what happened.”
The network later suspended all advertising on 2Day FM until Monday.
The decision was meant as a sign of respect, although with several advertisers, including Australia’s largest supermarket chain, already pulling their adverts, it was more like damage limitation and to avoid further bad publicity.
Mel Greig and Michael Christian are taken off air following Jacintha Saldanha’s death
Before the death, the country’s media watchdog, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, had received complaints about the broadcast. Chairman Chris Chapman said: “These events are a tragedy for all involved and I pass on my heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased nurse in London.
“The ACMA does not propose to make any comments at this stage, but will be engaging with the licensee, Today FM Sydney, around the facts and issues surrounding the prank call.”
In a statement, Jacintha Saldanha’s family said they were “deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Jacintha”. They have requested privacy from the media.
On Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said in a statement they were also “deeply saddened” by the death of Jacintha Saldanha, a duty nurse who was married with two children.
And King Edward VII hospital paid tribute to “a first-class nurse who cared diligently for hundreds of patients”.
Jacintha Saldanha – who was staying in hospital accommodation close to hospital – was the person who answered the call from the DJs and was not the nurse who discussed the duchess’s medical condition.
She had not been suspended or disciplined by the hospital.
However, she had felt “very lonely and confused” as a result of what had happened.

The St James’s Palace statement said the duke and duchess “were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time”.
A palace spokesman later added that “at no point did the palace complain to the hospital about the incident”.
“On the contrary, we offered our full and heartfelt support to the nurses involved and hospital staff at all times.”
Scotland Yard said officers were called at 09:35 GMT on Friday after reports of a woman found unconscious at an address in Weymouth Street, central London. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

Mother-of-two Jacintha Saldanha, who was working on the switchboard at the King Edward VII Hospital when 2DayFM obtained intimate details about Kate Middleton, was found dead this morning.
As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spoke of their “deep sadness” at the tragedy, the grieving family of the “excellent” nurse said: “We as a family are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Jacintha.”
Tonight the owners of 2DayFM radio station which employed Mel Greig and Christian Michael announced that the duo will not return to their show until further notice.
It is believed that senior management at 2Day FM were so shocked at the death of Jacintha Saldanha that bosses have ordered the pair off the air – probably never to return.

A statement from the station owners said: “Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) and 2Day FM are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of the nurse, Jacintha Saldanha from King Edward V11 Hospital and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, and all that have been affected by this situation around the world.
“CEO Rhys Holleran has spoken with the presenters, they are both deeply shocked, and at this time we have agreed that they not comment about the circumstances.
“SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show, until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy.”

Prince Charles today said he was “thrilled” at Kate Middleton’s pregnancy, after the beaming Duchess of Cambridge left hospital following four days of treatment for acute morning sickness.
The Prince of Wales expressed his delight at the “marvelous” news and added: “It’s a very nice thought to become a grandfather in my old age. I’m very glad my daughter-in-law is getting better, thank goodness.”
Prince Charles also alluded to a prank call to the hospital by two Australian DJs on Tuesday morning that duped a nurse into revealing details about Kate Middleton’s health, joking to reporters: “How do you know I’m not a radio station?”
Kate Middleton, 30, was discharged from the King Edward VII Hospital in central London – where she smiled and told reporters she was “feeling much better” – and headed to Kensington Palace to rest.

Kate Middleton, who is less than 12 weeks pregnant, was wrapped up against the cold in a coat and scarf, and the royal couple will now spend time at their London home to allow for her to recuperate.
She was admitted on Monday after developing the condition of hyperemesis gravidarum, and was suffering from the effects of dehydration.
For medical staff to allow Kate Middleton to go home, her severe vomiting must be under control and they are likely to have given her anti-sickness medication.

Prince William, 30, had arrived at the hospital a few minutes earlier in a green Land Rover, dressed in a light blue jumper, checked shirt, dark jeans and suede shoes.
Yesterday Kate was also visited by her sister, Pippa Middleton, and brother James, at 3:45 p.m. They were followed by Carole Middleton who arrived at the hospital to see her elder daughter at 7:30 p.m.

King Edward VII hospital, which is treating Kate Middleton, has released private details about her condition to two prank callers from Australian radio station 2Day FM.
The King Edward VII Hospital in central London has launched an investigation into the extraordinary stunt by Mel Greig and Michael Christian – and St James’s Palace is understood to be furious at what happened.
Mel Greig and Michael Christian pretended to be the Queen and Prince Charles to obtain intimate medical information about pregnant Kate Middleton, who is suffering from acute morning sickness.
The transcript in full:
Receptionist: Hello, good morning, King Edward VII Hospital
Female presenter (Mel Greig, impersonating the Queen): Oh, hello there. Could I please speak to Kate please, my granddaughter?
Receptionist: Oh yes, just hold on ma’am
Male presenter (Michael Christian, impersonating Prince Charles): Are they putting us through?
Greig: Yes
Christian: If this has worked it is the easiest prank call we have ever made. Your accent sucked by the way, I just want you to know
[Both laughing]
Greig: I’m not used to playing old an 80-year-old
[Phone picked up]
Greig: Kate, my darling. Are you there?
Nurse: Good morning ma’am, this is the nurse speaking, how may I help you?
Greig: I’m just after my granddaughter Kate. I want to see how her little tummy bug is going?
Nurse: She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night. And sleep is good for her. She’s been given some fluids [part removed due to patient confidentiality]. She’s stable at the moment.
[Part removed due to patient confidentiality]
Mel Greig and Michael Christian pretended to be the Queen and Prince Charles to obtain intimate medical information about pregnant Kate Middleton
Greig: I’ll just feed my little corgis then. When is a good time to come and visit her, because I’m the Queen and I need a lift down there?
[In background: Mummy, mummy]
Charles! When can you take me to the hospital, Charles?
Christian: When will it be alright to come down and see her? Maybe in the morning or something if that’s OK?
Nurse: I would suggest that any time after nine o’clock would be suitable because the doctor will be in the morning and will just be getting her freshened up. I would think any time after nine.
Christian: Is Wills still there or has he gone home? I haven’t spoken to him yet.
Nurse: He went home probably at about nine o’clock last night, to be fair.
Christian: Lovely, but are they all ok? Everything is alright?
Nurse: [Removed due to confidentiality]
Christian: Of course, it’s hardly the palace is it?
Greig: It’s nothing like the palace, is it Charles? When are you going to walk those bloody corgis?
Christian: Mummy, I’ll go and take the dogs outside.
Greig: I need to go visit Kate in the morning. My dear, thank you so much!
Nurse: You are very welcome
Greig: Goodbye!
Nurse: Goodbye!
[Both presenters burst into laughter]
Greig: She was giving real information.
Christian: Mummy I think they just believed everything we just said.

Joe Mullins, the forensic expert who has scientifically forecasted how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s little boy or girl could look, said it is sure to be “adorable”.
Washington based Joe Mullins has taken all the best features of the Royal couple and morphed them together.
And with their piercing blue eyes, clear complexion and Kate Middleton’s thick dark locks, the child could be a Royal beauty.
But, boy or girl, it is unlikely to have the blonde hair of its paternal grandmother, Diana Princess of Wales, he said.
Joe Mullins studied recent photographs of the couple and used the latest computer technology to predict how the child may look during their formative years.
If the couple have a son, the boy is expected to inherit many of William’s features.
Joe Mullins has included the famous Windsor ears and William’s slightly receding hairline.
A daughter is predicted to closer resemble Kate Middleton, with a high forehead, heart shaped face and long brown hair.
In the past he has taken the faces of other well known couples and imagined how their children may look, and has carried out magazine work where he “ages” celebrities such Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
But it seems some people are not so hopeful for the couple’s offspring.
Popular website Morph Thing creator Charanjeet Kondal has taken William and Kate’s more “unique” features and morphed them into what they would look like combined.
And less flattering images are a far departure from the glossy American images released by Joe Mullins – showing a child with thinner hair and slightly protruding ears.
While they are not as polished as those produced by the US artist, they do still bear a striking resemblance to the couple as children.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had been hoping to keep the news they were expecting a baby to themselves until Christmas Day.
But after Kate was admitted to hospital with extreme morning sickness, sparked by a rare condition called Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), they had little choice but to make the announcement.
Kate Middleton, 30, who is thought to be between six and eight weeks pregnant, was taken to the hospital just after lunch on Sunday by her husband and put on a drip to stop her becoming dehydrated.
But the news delighted millions around the world – including their own families.
Sources say she appeared to be responding well to treatment and there was “no cause for alarm”.
However, doctors at the King Edward VII Hospital in central London have taken the precautionary step of keeping her in for the next few days.
Joe Mullins is a highly respected forensic artist based in Washington.
He trained as a graphic designer before joining police doing both age progressions of missing children and facial reconstruction from the skull.
His work has helped trace countless missing children over the 11 years he has worked in forensics.
But when he is not hard at work in the serious day job, he enjoys creating “fun but scientific forecasts” forecasting how celebrities will look when they are older and how their children might look.
Joe Mullins said he took recent pictures of the Duke and Duchess, and took account of their coloring, and predominant genes and outstanding features, such as Kate’s olive skin, William’s ears, and their clear complexions.
While he tries to make then as “cute as possible” he says it is all highly scientific.
He said the future king or queen of England was bound to be “adorable” and added: “For Kate and William’s baby – I think there is a lot of good genes in the mix there.
“There is a science behind the process. The darker features are more dominant with Kate’s olive skin and dark hair. I would say you are not going to get a fair skinned baby with blonde hair and blue eyes – like Diana.”
He added: “Over the years I have done lots of different celebrities.
“I did Jennifer Anniston and Brad Pitt when they were married and I have done a few of Angelina Jolie.
“When I did Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise I did the child as a boy, but the image actually does look a lot like Suri.
“My day job means I have acquired a skill which means it is always in the ball park.
“I was inspired after seeing some other versions of celebrities children that were done. I remember thinking ‘those things look scary. I could do something more accurate.
“My interpretation of Kate Hudson’s son Ryder Robinson (son from her first marriage to Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson) was pretty much spot on.
“It’s all forensic art based on family hereditary going backward to make these fun baby images or forward to depict what children will look like now and get them back home to where they belong.”

A hoax call from Australian radio station 2Day FM presenters, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles, has been made to King Edward VII hospital where Kate Middleton is being treated for morning sickness.
King Edward VII hospital in London said a nurse had discussed the Duchess of Cambridge’s condition with an Australian radio station and deplored the “foolish prank”.
Hospital’s chief executive said confidentiality was taken seriously and telephone protocols are under review.
Two radio presenters, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, last night tricked staff at the Duchess of Cambridge’s hospital into giving a full update on her condition.
In an extraordinary stunt that provoked fury, the Australian 2Day FM presenters impersonated the Queen and Prince Charles and found themselves talking to pregnant Kate’s private nurse.
A nurse tells Mel Greig and Michael Christian that the Duchess is about to be “freshened up”, saying: “She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night.
“She’s been given some fluids, she’s stable at the moment.”
Australian 2Day FM presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian impersonated the Queen and Prince Charles and found themselves talking to pregnant Kate Middleton’s private nurse
King Edward VII Hospital in central London today verified that the call was genuine but criticized it as “a foolish prank call that we all deplore”. The stunt triggered global outrage.
The presenters started the show by claiming they have the phone number of the King Edward VII Hospital and call it, claiming they want to “speak to Kate”.
It came as Prince William left his wife’s beside last night after a six-hour vigil and for the first time in more than 24 hours finally felt able to offer a smile.
Kate Middleton was said to be feeling better, but will continue to receive treatment for the next few days.
The Duchess has been on a drip in hospital after being admitted on Monday with an acute – and potentially dangerous – form of morning sickness.
St James’s Palace said yesterday: “The Duchess of Cambridge is continuing to feel better. She and the duke are immensely grateful for the good wishes they have received.
“She will remain in hospital at present and will continue to be treated for hyperemesis gravidarum.”
In spite of William’s obvious concern, the couple may be forced to spend the first months of Kate’s pregnancy apart if her medical condition does not improve.
The condition that the duchess, who is believed to be only eight weeks pregnant, has been diagnosed with can last for the first five months of pregnancy – sometimes even for the entire duration.
It may require regular hospital treatment because it can lead to severe dehydration, putting mother and baby at risk.
A spokesman for Prince William and Kate Middleton said he would be making no comment on the prank.
Kate Middleton’s pregnancy will be the most scrutinized, most photographed and most copied pregnancy the world has ever seen.
In this celebrity-obsessed, internet age, it is certain that every decision mother-to-be Kate Middleton makes until her baby’s birth will prove to be a trend-setting one – analyzed and imitated across the globe.
Kate Middleton’s bump itself will become the focus of attention for a gawping world as people look for scintillas of cheer among stories of economic austerity and international sabre-rattling.
Indeed, the little prince or princess will have considerable influence even before they take their first breath in the land over which they’ll one day reign.
Long gone are the days when well-heeled women chose to hide during their so-called “confinement”.
When Kate Middleton married into the Royal Family, she accepted that her every move would be forensically watched.
As such, she will doubtless be cast in the leading role as Queen of the Yummy Mummies.
The Duchess can therefore hardly resort to the occasional slummy day like most mothers-to-be – wearing a “tent-dress” to cover a growing tummy, or pulling on a size 14 jumper over maternity jeans.
In any case, the figure of the naturally svelte Kate Middleton will for some months be considerably slimmer than the average woman’s, so she won’t have to wear maternity clothes for a good while.
When she does want to adapt her wardrobe, she can conveniently turn to Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen – her wedding dress designer who is due to have a baby in February. If anyone can make fashionable coats and dresses with a tactfully high waistline, it is her.
But more thorny issues will eventually arise – for no one’s decisions are more contentious than a pregnant mother’s. Natural birth (probably) or Caesarean? Home (highly unlikely) or hospital?
William and Harry were born in the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s in Paddington, West London. Kate Middleton is expected to follow suit by using the private wing of an NHS hospital, and the Lindo has just been refurbished.
The private Portland Hospital in central London is the celebrity favorite but doesn’t have the adult intensive-care facilities of a large teaching hospital. No risks, however tiny, are going to be taken here.
Once the birthing suite has been chosen and Kate Middleton has a few months on her hands, there will be plenty of other choices to make concerning the care of the newest heir to the throne.
The royal nursery at Apartment 1A, Kensington Palace, is probably being refurbished at this moment – overseen by Kate.
Among the apartment’s 20 rooms, which once saw late-night louche parties hosted by Princess Margaret, there is plenty of room for live-in maternity nurses and nannies.
These might play a less central role than they once did in royal circles, as hands-on parenting will be Kate Middleton’s goal, but they will still be on call.
They will perhaps be vetted by the upmarket firm Kensington Nannies, which charges a finder’s fee of £2,500 ($3,800), but ideally will come with word-of-mouth recommendations.
Kate Middleton’s pregnancy will be the most scrutinized, most photographed and most copied pregnancy the world has ever seen
William and Kate could talk to soon-to-be near neighbors Hugh and Rose van Cutsem. He is a financial consultant, and their daughter Grace was a bridesmaid at William and Kate’s wedding.
Rose van Cutsem had a third child in January. Or they could consult the Duchess of Cornwall’s children, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes, who both have children and live in West London.
Then there is the question of a Christian name, and several middle names, for the future monarch. If it’s a girl, will Diana be in there somewhere? Or Carole? The chosen moniker will spawn endless imitators, while the Christening will be a national event.
Prince William was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace, and we can expect something similar this time. Two tiers of Fiona Cairns’s wedding cake from 2011 are waiting.
The role of godparent will be hotly contested.
The couple will probably choose five or six from three groups: royal relations, trustworthy Sloane friends and media-savvy celeb types.
The obvious choices are, of course, that glamorous pair Pippa Middleton – no one can plan the infant’s parties better, and don’t forget the Baby Shower range from her parents’ firm Party Pieces – and Prince Harry, the racy uncle incarnate.
Farther removed but still in the royal running could be a Spencer relation, such as Diana’s brother Charles’s blonde daughter Lady Kitty, or Princess Beatrice or Eugenie.
From the second group, there’s Hugh van Cutsem or his three brothers – long-time pals of Wills and Harry – who are all tall, handsome and reliable. There are the Waley-Cohens – Gold Cup-winning jockey and dental entrepreneur Sam and his wife Bels – and Thomas van Straubenzee, William’s lively surveyor friend from Ludgrove prep school who is engaged to aristocratic tennis coach Lady Melissa Percy.
This tweedy lot can lay down fine wine and polish up the guns for the royal youngster’s first shoot.
But if the Cambridges want a “fun” choice, they might ask nightclub owner Guy Pelly or Richard Branson’s daughter Holly, who would ensure a lifetime of discreet holidays at her father’s retreats in Verbier and on Necker Island.
In the meantime, there will be no more desirable product placement than on this celebrity royal baby.
By Royal Appointment or not, firms will be queuing up to send their cashmere outfits, sheepskin-lined papooses and eco-friendly baby bottles to Kensington Palace, in the hope they may be photographed with the royal tot – sparking a sell-out in the process.
So what will catch Kate Middleton’s eye as she flicks through the catalogues?
A West London baby can’t show its face without a Bugaboo pram, starting at more than £700 ($1,000). And if any baby should have a top-of-the-range version, with alloy wheels and “sports-car fabric” designed by Viktor & Rolf, surely it’s this one.
That said, it would be a shame if the infant did not also have a traditional Silver Cross “Balmoral” pram – the type Prince Charles was wheeled around in by his nanny – for strolls in Kensington Gardens.
Here, Kate Middleton could participate in organized buggy walks (to keep you fit), or she could go to South Kensington for Gymboree – music and play.
The vast U.S. retailer Whole Foods Market in Kensington High Street sells all manner of organic baby food, chlorine-free baby wipes and socially acceptable snacks, such as organic rice cakes. Minutes from Kensington Palace, this is the mothership of organic health-food shops – where else for baby’s first mango mash?
One of the defining issues for the Duke and Duchess will be where to send Junior to school. West London mothers will be talking of little else for years to come – local applications will spike on the merest rumor.
Nurseries and schools will be deciding whether to gently suggest a visit or to wait for the Palace to call.
Nurseries within walking distance of Kensington Palace are The Minors in Pembridge Square – William went to the original establishment in Chepstow Villas, then called The Mynors – and Ladbroke Square, a long-established safe haunt of the British upper classes.
There is the celebrity-friendly Acorn in Lansdowne Crescent but it is a bit further away and may be a little glitzy for the Cambridges.
Then, after two years in a gingham smock, infant Wales will have a choice of prep schools to scoot to.
For single-sex, there is William’s old school, Wetherby in Notting Hill (much more academic now than it ever was in William’s day) and its sister school for girls, Pembridge Hall.
Both are familiar paparazzi territory: the school runs have featured Elle Macpherson, Elizabeth Hurley and Claudia Schiffer.
Their children have now moved on but the Beckhams went on a tour last week.
After drop-off, the mothers who don’t work pile into the coffee shops on Notting Hill Gate, where they discuss each other. The gilded educational establishments their children attend require application at birth, but William and Kate could shock us all and go for a state school such as St Mary Abbot’s, a C of E primary that is probably the closest school to Kensington Palace and attended by the children of David Cameron and Michael Gove.
Depending on your viewpoint, sending a Wales there would be admirably unsnobby or the taking up of a place by someone whose family could easily afford to opt out of the state system.
Forget George Osborne’s Autumn Statement and manufacturing-output figures. Buggy makers, private schools, and bootee peddlers are all hoping that Little HRH might give the British economy the boost it so badly needs.
Kate Middleton is being treated in hospital for a very severe form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum.
Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a rare condition believed to affect up to 2% of women in pregnancy and is a severe form of morning sickness.
It tends to be more common in young mothers, women who are in their first pregnancy, and those with multiple pregnancies.
Women with HG often lose weight – usually over 10% of their body weight – and feel tired and dizzy.
They may also find they are passing water less often than usual, and the main risk is dehydration which can lead to headache, palpitations and confusion.
There is also a risk of nutritional deficiencies.
Then symptoms are severe, admission to hospital may be needed for observation and to treat dehydration with intravenous fluids.
This usually only means a few days in hospital.
Kate Middleton is being treated in hospital for a very severe form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum
Unlike most morning sickness, HG usually persists past the first trimester of pregnancy, and typically subsides by week 21 of pregnancy – although it can last much longer.
However, leading doctors say that along with more ordinary morning sickness, it is a sign the pregnancy is progressing.
Dr. Peter Bowen-Simpkins, consultant obstetrician and medical director of the London Women’s Clinic, says: “It is almost always a positive sign that the pregnancy is progressing well.
“The sickness is thought to be due to a rise in hormone levels. It normally occurs during weeks six and eight of pregnancy, when the placenta takes over production of hormones from the ovaries.
“It generally continues until around 12 or 14 weeks, but if it stops before, it can – although not always – be a sign that all is not well.”
Kate Middleton was on a drip at King Edward VII Hospital in central London this evening after falling ill with acute morning sickness as she is pregnant with the royal couple’s first child.
Prince William drove Kate, 30, to hospital today and spent hours at her bedside. He left tonight looking tense but sources said the duchess had been admitted as a precautionary measure. She is expected to be kept in for several days.
Sources said the royal couple are “incredibly happy but nervous” after being rushed into announcing the happy news because of Kate’s illness.
In a statement on their website, the couple said they are “delighted with the news”.
Members of the Royal Family – including the Queen – were only told about the pregnancy this afternoon after the decision was made to take Kate to hospital.
However, the Middletons were already aware their eldest daughter was expecting because she was taken ill while staying at their family home in Berkshire this weekend.
“The pregnancy is in its very early stages – the couple only found out very recently that they were expecting. But because she has been admitted to hospital and will have to stay in for a few days, they made the difficult decision to make things public,” said one.

It is understood that the Duchess began to feel ill at her parents’ home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, where the couple were spending the weekend. She was unable to keep any food or water down.
Concerned Prince William finally took the decision, after consulting his doctor, to get her to hospital this afternoon. William left his wife’s bedside at about 8:15 p.m. after ensuring she was comfortable.
William drove his wife into London from Berkshire with their personal protection officers, declining the offer of an ambulance in favor of using their own, more low-key car.
Sources suggested that the Duchess was hooked up to an intravenous drip to increase her fluid and nutrient levels.

He was later seen leaving the hospital at around 8:25 p.m. before getting into a waiting Land Rover Discovery.
Kate wife has been given a drip to restore her nutrient levels and fluids and will be kept in for a few days as a precautionary measure, royal sources said.
The Royal couple are said to be “delighted” about the pregnancy, but appear to have been forced to announce it early because she was rushed to the King Edward VII Hospital in central London.
“The condition – although unpleasant -poses no harm to mother and baby as long as it is treated, as your baby will take the nutrients it needs from your body – it’s the mum that suffers more,” Jules Robertson, a midwife for the baby charity Tommy’s said.
Senior Royal sources say there was no way they would have announced the pregnancy at this stage had she not fallen ill.
They are happy but are very nervous because it is so early in the pregnancy, the source added.
Kate Middleton’s slim figure is not a reason why she has become poorly.
But it can be a hereditary condition, meaning it is fairly likely that a close relative like her mother or grandmother could have suffered from the illness and she may get it again in future.
Professor Tim Draycott, of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said: “It definitely does seem to run in families, and in consecutive pregnancies. It is possible someone in her family has suffered with it in the past.
“We know it’s not a psychological illness – it is not a sign of mental weakness.
“It does seem to be slightly more common in women expecting twins.
“It affects one per cent of women. That rises to two to three per of women expecting twins.
“She’s clearly very slim, but it affects women bigger than her and smaller than her.
“It is a bit like feeling permanently hungover every single day and never getting better.
“The symptoms would suggest she is less than 12 weeks pregnant.”
Kate Middleton is suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a rare and debilitating condition that hits women in the earliest stages of pregnancy, causing severe vomiting
The condition, which could mean that Kate Middleton cannot eat or drink anything without being ill, usually occurs in the first 6 to 8 weeks of pregnancy and can last for up to two months.
In the most serious cases symptoms can persist for the length of the pregnancy and can be life-threatening for mother and baby if not treated early as the woman may vomit up to 30 times a day.
Symptoms also include severe nausea, low blood pressure and fast heart rate, headaches, lethargy or confusion.
Kate Middleton’s involvement in Royal engagements may now be limited as a result.
“If it is not treated properly it can lead to severe side effects and problems for mother and baby,” Dr. Lucy MacKillop, obstetric physician at the Oxford University Hospitals trust.
“The danger for mother is greater if not treated. There have been reported cases of liver failure, ruptured tissue and cells from so much vomiting and neurological problems.
“It is to do with the pregnancy hormone, and there is more pregnancy hormone in mothers expecting twins.”
Spelling out the treatment Kate Middleton is likely to be getting Dr. Lucy MacKillop added: “We would give the mother medication which will be safe for both her and baby, and which will allow her to stop vomiting.
“Initially she will be on a drip so we can replace fluids and nutrients and then we can start to give her tablets, which she can take home with her and continue there.
“There is no special diet, but she needs to ensure she is eating little and often.
“We would not expect her to be putting on weight, but the important thing is that she maintains her weight.
“Women with this condition can lose five per cent of their body weight, so she will need to have weekly weight measurements.
“The most important thing is to get mother to stop being sick and get home.”
The condition is thought to be caused by elevated levels of the “pregnancy hormone” hCG. The body begins to produce human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) after conception.
Mothers who have also suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum said that Kate Middleton will be having a tough time.
Caitlin Dean suffered from the condition and said: “Imagine having a stomach bug that lasts for days and days, months and months – it is just relentless.
“Any movement, any sound, any smell just makes you vomit.
“I vomited 20 to 30 times a day for the first few months, in the latter part it was just once or twice a day but it’s still unpleasant.
“One of the big issues with it is isolation because is causes many women to be bed-bound. There is a real lack of understanding about the condition.”
But despite being a debilitating illness, it is not usually dangerous, and is often a sign that the pregnancy is going to plan, experts say.
Dr. Peter Bowen-Simpkins, consultant obstetrician and medical director of the London Women’s Clinic, has said: “It is almost always a positive sign that the pregnancy is progressing well.
Jules Robertson, a midwife for the baby charity Tommy’s, said: “If pregnant women are vomiting several times during the day and unable to keep food or drink down, then they will need to be treated to help them cope with the symptoms, and stay nourished and hydrated.
“We advise that anyone experiencing this should see their GP or midwife to be checked. It is more common in early pregnancy, and by around 14-16 weeks, the sickness should have gone – most of the time it is resolved by 20 weeks, and very occasionally it can continue throughout pregnancy.”
Kate Middleton and Prince William’s baby will be born third in line to the throne. The Queen, Prince Philip and other members of the royal family are also “delighted”.
British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Twitter: “I’m delighted by the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby.”
In a statement on the couple’s website, they said: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.
“The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum.
“As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.”
A number of Manhattan’s top hair salons have reported a surge in demand for “Kate Middleton bangs”, with many clients bringing pictures of the British Royal to show their stylists.
Yarok Hair founder Mordechai Alvow, whose clients include Melania and Ivanka Trump, says his phone has been ringing off the hook since the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out with her new do on Tuesday evening.
“There has absolutely been a surge in demand for long bangs,” he said, adding that they are in keeping with current fashion trends.
“Designers have been showing a lot of retro Seventies looks and they are a great match.”
Singer-songwriter Leah Blishi, 37, a client of Mordechai Alvow, admits she had been in two minds about going for the chop, but when Kate Middleton’s new look made the headlines, she was convinced.
“I was thinking about having long bangs for a while and I’m so pleased I went for it,” Leah Blishi said.
Stylists agree that long, centrally-parted bangs are a look that works on almost every face shape.
A number of Manhattan’s top hair salons have reported a surge in demand for Kate Middleton bangs
Gardner Edmunds at the Marie Robinson Salon adds that they are low-maintenance too.
“Aside from [Kate’s] obvious allure, clients have been asking for her new long bangs because it’s a low risk option for a big impact change because as the bang grows out it eventually blends in with the rest of your long layers,” he explained.
They should be executed with care though – get it wrong and the client must wait weeks until the unfortunate mistake grows out.
According to celebrity stylist Oscar Blandi, owner of New York’s Oscar Blandi Salon, proportion is the key.
“Anyone can wear this look, but it’s important that the cut is well-proportioned and tailored to the woman’s bone structure and hair line,” he says.
“The length of the bang depends heavily on these things.”
Luckily for Richard Ward, the top London stylist behind Kate Middleton’s cut, his New York counterparts give it their seal of approval.
“Kate’s bangs are angled towards the end of the eyebrows framing her face beautifully which is a more Seventies look,” Mordechai Alvow observes.
The cut is versatile too, according to Gardner Edmunds: “The length of her bang accentuates her cheek bones and draws attention to her eyes.”
“It’s versatile because you can part it on the side creating a dramatic sweep across the forehead or stick with a classic center part.”
But it seems this surge in interest is just the start for the “Kate look”.
Oscar Blandi believes long bangs are on the verge of a major comeback.
“Kate is constantly in the public eye and a style icon for women all over the world, so I can see this look coming back as a result,” he said.
Kim Kardashian and her famous sisters recently launched the Kardashian Kollection at Dorothy Perkins in London, and reportedly send the Duchess of Cambridge a load of free clothing, only to get them send straight back.
According to The Examiner, Kate Middleton politely declined to accept any of the free clothing received from Kim Kardashian.
The Kardashian Kollection features a lot of figure-hugging silhouettes, with leopard print and studs – not exactly appropriate for a member of the Royal family.
A palace insider told the magazine: “Kate is hardly going to turn up for an event with the queen in a cheap leopard-print miniskirt or gold sequined jacket.”
The source also said Kim Kardashian invited Kate Middleton over for tea, in an attempt to get a new royal best friend out of her recent trip to London. But once again, the Duchess politely declined the offer.
And another insider explained to the Daily Star earlier this week why Kim Kardashian is so keen on getting closer to Kate Middleton.
“She hoped Kate might be seen wearing one of the designs out in public, which would give their fashion credentials a huge boost,” the source explained.
Kim Kardashian has reportedly sent Kate Middleton a load of free clothing from her Kardashian Kollection only to get them send straight back
And a link with the Royal family would have given them the stepping stone they wanted to be big in the UK, the insider continued: “The Kardashians want to be as big in the UK as they are in America, and think associating themselves with the Royals, especially Kate, will help them achieve that.”
Speaking in a recent interview with Now magazine, Kim Kardashian gushed about how much she love’s the Duchess’s fashions style.
“Kate seems like a really sweet person and she’s a princess. We love her sense of fashion. She could wear our looks and team it with one of her hats.”
A representative of Kate Middleton said: “In general terms, the policy of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is not to accept any unsolicited gifts unless the sender is known personally to His or Her Royal Highness. Any such gifts are returned to the sender with thanks and an explanation of Their Royal Highnesses’ policy.”
The British woman’s lust for the fuller brow is yet another Kate Middleton-driven craze, this time brought about by her former predilection for hearty, well-conditioned eyebrows.
And not only has a Harley Street clinic spoken of a spike in numbers of patients wishing to undergo their non-invasive eyebrow hair implant surgery since the Royal Wedding last April, but now an eye make-up brand has developed a brow-plumping product promising to give your eyebrows a make-over fit for a duchess.
Dr. Raghu Reddy, one of the UK’s leading hair restoration experts, performs eyebrow transplants at The Private Clinic on Harley Street, using hair from behind the patient’s ears.
The procedure – which costs between £4,000 ($6,200) and £5,000 ($7,800) – is used as a solution for those who have over-plucked their eyebrows, or those who are simply looking for a fuller brow.
Dr. Raghu Reddy said: “We have witnessed interest in the eyebrow transplant procedure grow since around the time of the Royal Wedding and it has steadily risen.
“Now we have a healthy stream of women who come into the clinic and undergo the treatment. There is also greater awareness now of the procedure and the results it can achieve.
“While I do have patients who come to me who have over-plucked their brows, I also have women who come in with perfectly normal eyebrows, who are looking for a thicker, fuller brow to rival the likes of Kate Middleton.
“Today, women are more aware of the treatments available to them and more willing to consider treatment to achieve the look they desire.”
Meanwhile, Eye Candy has released a new product which claims to enhance the appearance and length of eyebrows.
The new LashXLR8R is aimed at those who want to give their brows a natural boost, without the use of eyebrow pencils.
The serum is already being hailed by make-up artists and has been proven strengthen and thicken lashes and eyebrows in just four weeks.
Prior to its launch, the product had a waiting list of 8,000, but it is now available in Boots for £19.99 ($31).
Developed in the UK, the brow-booster has been formulated with a unique liposome-based delivery system, containing natural seaweed extracts Laminaria Digitata and Pelvetia Canaliculata.
These naturally occurring minerals are known to stimulate growth and increase brow density and lash length.
The serum, which is paraben-free, also contains D-Panthenol (Vitamin B5) which helps to improve lash flexibility, the condition and moisturisation of both lashes and brows.

THE EYEBROW TRANSPLANT
Performed by Dr. Raghu Reddy, one of the UK’s leading hair restoration experts, at The Private Clinic on Harley Street, the eyebrow transplant uses “third generation follicular unit extraction” (3G FUE) to provide a solution for patients who have over-plucked their eyebrows beyond repair, or to those who are looking for a fuller brow. The eyebrow transplant enables those patients who would like a fuller, thicker brow to achieve that result.
• The treatment itself lasts around 4-5 hours and it is virtually pain free.
• It involves using a special punch, less than 1mm in diameter, to remove hair follicles from behind the patient’s ear. The hair is then transplanted into the brow area
• The hair will then grow gradually in its new location and you will start to see growth within 3-4 months.
• The treatment is minimally invasive
• Requires no scalpels, stitches or linear scarring
• Lifelong guarantee for the number of hairs displaced
• It costs between £4,000-£5,000 ($6,200-$7,800), depending on the patient, the desired result and the number of hairs required.
• The treatment is walk-in, walk-out so no down time is required. After they have undergone the treatment, they can get immediately back to their day to day routine
Pippa Middleton is the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge whose derriere became the surprise star of last year’s Royal Wedding.
Now – in her new party-planning book Celebrate. A Year of Festivities for Family and Friends – Pippa Middleton has acknowledged the “startling” reality that she has achieved worldwide fame because Kate married Prince William and because of the unexpected focus on her bottom.
Pippa Middleton, 29, admits: “It is a bit startling to achieve global recognition before the age of 30 on account of your sister, your brother-in-law and your bottom.
“One day I might be able to make sense of this. In the meantime I think it’s fair to say that it has its upside and its downside.
“I certainly have opportunities many can only dream of – but in most ways I’m a typical girl in her 20s trying to forge a career and represent herself in what can sometimes seem rather strange circumstances.
“I am by nature an optimist so I tend to concentrate on the advantages.
“One of the most attractive has been the chance to publish [this book] Celebrate.”
Celebrate: A Year Of British Festivities For Families And Friends is party-planner Pippa Middleton’s guide to home entertaining and goes on sale at the end of this month.
In Celebrate, Pippa Middleton acknowledges the effect her sister the Duchess of Cambridge’s fame will have on sales, saying: “I know many of you will pick up the book out of nothing more than curiosity.
“[But] I can assure you that it feels even stranger to me than it probably does to you to have seen so much written about me when I have done so little to paint a picture of myself.
“This is my first chance to do that and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.
“The book is designed to be a comprehensive guide to home entertaining, based on my experience in my family’s business Party Pieces and work for London-based events company Table Talk.”
Pippa Middleton party planning book, Celebrate A Year of Festivities for Family and Friends
Last year it was revealed that Pippa Middleton – whose previous literary experience includes writing the online newsletter Party Times for the family’s business – had secured an almost unprecedented £400,000 ($620,000) deal for the book with publisher Michael Joseph.
Pippa Middleton’s recipes are accompanied by glossy pictures of the author along with a selection of anecdotes recalling her childhood growing up with Kate in Bucklebury, Berkshire.
Talking about Bonfire Night, Pippa Middleton says: “The unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes make this festival a particularly evocative one.
“I remember the noise of the bells ringing at school as the effigy of Guy Fawkes we’d prepared earlier was carried out on a canvas stretcher, hoisted on to the huge bonfire and set alight.
“Then the revelry would begin.
“My school friends and I would all have sparklers we passed around, lighting one from another.”
Pippa Middleton also reminisces about playing conkers at school: “We all used to get really competitive. The trick was to paint clear nail varnish on the conkers to make them very tough and less likely to break – outrageous cheating of course!”
Star magazine in US appears to have Photoshopped a baby bump onto the Duchess of Cambridge’s slender frame.
Star magazine, which claims to reveal that Kate is pregnant with twins, published an image of the British royal from her recent visit to Singapore on the cover of its latest issue.
Kate Middleton, 30, is seen standing in what is quite a typical pose, with her shoulders back and hips forward, with her arm resting across her midriff, as she toasts Mary Tan, the wife of President of Singapore.
However, the gossip site Celebuzz suggests that Star magazine has taken the liberty of retouching the photograph, to make it appear as though the Duchess’s stomach is larger than it is.
Star magazine in US appears to have Photoshopped a baby bump onto the Duchess of Cambridge's slender frame
On comparison with what it believes to be the original photograph, the site says there are several glaring clues indicating that it has been airbrushed to suit the title’s headlines.
It reads: “Not only has is her floral slim-fit frock been mysteriously blown out…”
Star magazine accompanied the image with a sensational coverline of: “Scandal turns to joy: It’s twins!”
Two bullet points beneath add: “Pregnant Kate gets thrilling news amid nude photo uproar… Up to 125lbs and showing.”
The inside story cites a “family friend”, “insider” and a “source”, who apparently told the title that the Royal couple conceived during a “passionate night” in Wales after the London Olympics.
It is Star‘s second cover in a row claiming to reveal that the Duchess is expecting. Just last week it suggested that stitching in the waistband of one of Kate’s dresses was proof that it had been let out to make space for “mommy weight”.
The headline sparked a furious response from singer Demi Lovato who took to Twitter to slam the publication.
She wrote: “So apparently Kate Middleton (William?) is pregnant because of THIS picture… Are you KIDDING ME?!!
“And people wonder why girls/guys have body image issues.. Whether she is or not, she still has a beautiful body. Shame on you Star magazine.”
Iranian athlete Mehrdad Karam Zadeh refused to shake the Duchess of Cambridge’s hand after she presented him with his discus silver medal on Sunday.
The Royal was warmly received on the podium by Paralympic GB’s gold medal winner Aled Davies and Chinese bronze medallist Lezheng Wang – but when it was Mehrdad Karam Zadeh’s turn to step up, the 40-year-old failed to offer a hand to the Duchess, clutching them close to his chest.
His decision not to shake hands with the Duchess was likely to have been a result of Iranian cultural convention which bans such contact between unrelated men and women. The Duchess appeared to have been briefed on the situation, because she did not offer her hand either.
His decision not to shake her hand threatened to overshadow a glittering night for Paralympics GB, which enjoyed its most successful day of the Games so far with seven gold medals.
Iranian athlete Mehrdad Karam Zadeh refused to shake the Duchess of Cambridge's hand after she presented him with his discus silver medal on Sunday
The Iranian delegation in London have not been available to comment on the incident, but according to the Daily Telegraph, they have told Games organizers Mehrdad Karam Zadeh was not making a political statement.
It’s believed the athlete was merely conforming to Iranian cultural convention, forbidding men from shaking hands with unrelated women.
A spokesman for St. James’s Palace has revealed the Duchess was briefed beforehand and warned not to offer her hand to Mehrdad Karam Zadeh.
“Many male athletes from Islamic countries do not shake hands in public with women they are not related to for cultural and religious reasons,” the palace representative said.
The palace added Kate Middleton was “honored” to get the chance to present the medals, particularly to a British champion in Davies.
It’s not the first time the Iranian custom has caused controversy.
Last year the Iranian volleyball team had to apologize after several team members shook hands with a female referee after a game against Afghanistan.
The gesture provoked outrage and Iran’s state-owned media described the players’ behavior as “stunning and inappropriate”.

After apologizing to Adele for calling her fat, Karl Lagerfeld has now found fault with the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, Pippa Middleton.
Karl Lagerfeld, 78, was commenting on Pippa Middleton’s style, when he admitted that he admired only the rear view of her.
According to The Sun, the Chanel designer said: “Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette and she is the right girl for that boy.
“I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties.”
“On the other hand, her sister struggles,” Karl Lagerfeld continued.
“I don’t like the sister’s face. She should only show her back.”
Karl Lagerfeld was commenting on Pippa Middleton's style, when he admitted that he admired only the rear view of her
No doubt Pippa Middleton’s fans, who have dubbed the 28-year-old “Her Royal Hotness”, will not be best pleased.
It is not the first time Karl Lagerfeld has voiced his opinion on the Middleton sisters.
At the launch of his pop-up beauty boutique in London’s Covent Garden last week, the designer was full of compliments for Kate – even defending her style against critics who might deem it dull.
Karl Lagerfeld said: “She knows pretty well what to wear and what to do. She has a divine silhouette so she can wear anything.
“She has a sense of what’s right for the moment because you can not dress like a mad woman in those situations.”
While he slammed Pippa Middleton in yesterday’s interview, Karl Lagerfeld did have high praise for Victoria Beckham, who he recently hosted for a shoot in his couture atelier in Paris.
“That body, after four children,” he exclaimed.
“There are not so many who have a body like that. She is very disciplined.”
Kate Middleton has topped Vanity Fair’s annual International Best Dressed list for the third year running.
The prestigious ranking, which appears in the September issue of the glossy title, saw the Duchess of Cambridge trump some of the fashion world’s most influential figures including actresses Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger and Léa Seydoux, as well as the much-loved New York Times street style photographer Bill Cunningham.
Kate Middleton won praise for patriotically championing home-grown designers such as Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley, and Matthew Williamson, as well as High Street brands.
Of course, the Duchess was not the only royal to make the list. Her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, also featured at number 27, while Monaco’s Charlotte Casiraghi and HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark placed at numbers 35 and 32 respectively.
Kate Middleton has topped Vanity Fair's annual International Best Dressed list for the third year running
They appeared alongside fashion industry power players such as Stella McCartney, Alice & Olivia designer Stacey Bendet and Odcar de la Renta PR Erika Bearman, better known by her Twitter handle, OscarPRGirl.
Among the men to make the list was Gisele Bundchen’s quarterback husband Tom Brady, who ranked high at number seven. Interestingly the supermodel herself didn’t even make the list at all. The same was true of Jay-Z, who came fifth, while wife Beyonce didn’t feature either.
Several couples featured as a single entry, however. Colin Firth appeared alongside his wife Livia, who regularly steps out on the red carpet in eco-friendly designer creations.
Moda Operandi founder and Vogue contributor Lauren Santo Domingo came 20th in the list with her music executive husband Andrés
Italian socialites and power couple Ginevra Elkann and Giovanni Gaetani dell’Aquila d’Aragona also appeared together at number 38.
Other major names to make the list were singer Alicia Keys, actress Fan Bingbing and British actor Eddie Redmayne.
Today show anchor Matt Lauer came in at 25, New York Giants Wide Receiver Victor Cruz at 23 and Isabella Rossellini’s daughter Elettra Wiedemann came in at 33.
Vanity Fair is not the first title to have put the Duchess of Cambridge top of its best-dressed list.
People magazine named her one of their ten most stylish women in the world last September. And Harper’s Bazaar followed suit by putting her top of their list in November.
Kate Middleton has been pictured on the front page of U.S. magazine The New Republic with a set of yellow, decaying teeth.

Kate Middleton appears in front of a tattered Union Jack alongside the words, Something’s Rotten. The Last Days of Britain.
Inside are several articles about the state of the United Kingdom ahead of this summer’s Olympics which have sparked outrage online.
Last year the pearly white Duchess spent thousands of pounds having her teeth polished and turned to give her the perfect smile.

French dentist Didier Fillion used a hidden brace to make Kate Middleton’s teeth appear a little out of line, un-American and therefore beautifully natural.
“He did some little micro-rotations on Kate,” dentist Bernard Touati revealed.
“That’s why they look so good – because they are not perfectly aligned.
“The problem in the United States is they have very artificial vision. But what we like is a natural healthy smile, but not artificial.”
Dr. Didier Fillion, also an expert in polishing and whitening teeth, has a clinic in London’s Wimpole Street as well as in Paris and Geneva.
Creating the perfect smile can take the Frenchman anything from six months to two years and costs from $6,500 to $17,500.
Brits having bad teeth is a staple of American humor about the UK. For example, in one episode of the hot comedy The Simpsons Lisa was shown The Big Book of British Teeth by her orthodontist.
One commenter said: “Not cool. I am not an imperialist (not even close!), but she seems to be a genuine person. She is young, beautiful, and privileged. Apparently grave sins to many people.
“Yet I wonder if these are the same critics who keep up on the Kardashians, or whatever flavor of the month Hollywood squirts out.
“She is a person who did not deserve this low blow. Shame on them. I will wouldn´t even think to read anything from them ever again.”
One poster said it was “absolutely ridiculous” and another said, “the magazine should be sued for libel”.
The New Republic is on news stands now in the US.
Kate Middleton looked to have referenced tennis style from 1920 with her Wimbledon outfit choice today.
Arriving with Prince William just in time to watch Roger Federer take on Mikhail Youzhny on Centre Court this afternoon, she wore a cream pleated cable knit dress by Alexander McQueen that looked as if it could have come straight from a Wimbledon kit list from the roaring Twenties.
Duchess of Cambridge accessorized the designer dress with a pair of $260 navy blue suede court shoes from LK Bennett.
It was a dress she has worn before – exactly a year ago today – when she made a trip to Prince Edward Island during her tour of Canada in 2011.
Kate Middleton looked to have referenced tennis style from 1920 with her Wimbledon outfit choice
It is a style that has also been worn previously by Sarah Jessica Parker. The Sex And The City actress wore a navy version of the dress in 2006, the year it was debuted by the British design house.
It is the first Wimbledon appearance of the year for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The royal pair’s visit comes after Carole and Michael Middleton were guests in the Royal box yesterday, and Pippa and James Middleton sat alongside Felicity Kendal and her son Jake in the prestigious seats last Friday.
Anything Kate Middleton wears flies off the shelves.
Duchess of Cambridge has been credited with boosting the British economy by a staggering £1billion ($1.6 billion) – and there are entire websites devoted to her style.
But now it seems “the Kate Effect” is making real waves in the world of fashion, causing what is being dubbed “Kate-flation”.
Several of the pieces the princess in waiting has worn seem to have risen in price since they first made their debut in the duchess’s wardrobe.
Kate Middleton’s beloved LK Bennett “Sledge” shoe has gone up by £20 ($32), from £175 ($280) to £195 ($312) since she first wore them 18 months ago.
Kate Middleton’s beloved LK Bennett “Sledge” shoe has gone up by $32 since she first wore them 18 months ago
The “Natalie” clutch from the same High Street Store is also up £20 (to £160), and the blue Issa wrap dress made famous when she wore it for the announcement of her engagement in November 2011 has since risen by an astonishing £110 (from £385 to £495).
Whereas it was noted the UK inflation rate for food and clothing rose by 3.5% earlier this year, items with Kate Middleton stamp of approval have gone up by anything from a startling 12% to an eye-watering 28%.
So what’s behind this Kate-flation? Spokespeople for LK Bennett say their price rises are anything but a cynical way to exploit shoppers eager to recreate the Duchess’s stylish look.
Instead, they claim that rising costs have forced them to put up the prices of certain key items in their collections.
Soaring costs or not, one thing is certain: it will be the shoppers who are the real victims of Kate-flation.
The secret of Kate Middleton’s face-framing look is a modest £15.50 ($24) Bobbi Brown eye shadow powder from Peter Jones store make-up counter.
Duchess of Cambridge has learnt to use the product, from a range by make-up artist Bobbi Brown, to create the impression of thicker, darker, more luxuriant brows.
Kate Middleton, who has apparently long been concerned about her fair and slightly patchy eyebrows, is a frequent visitor to the Bobbi Brown counter at the Peter Jones store in London’s Sloane Square.
It is understood that staff taught her to apply a deep brown shadow in a shade called “saddle” with a slanted make-up brush to “fill-in” her “thinning” brows.
Kate Middleton is, by all accounts, delighted with her new look, feeling that the darker brows frame her face and make her eyes stand out.
But while Kate may have changed her look, it seems she has retained her down-to-earth approach.
The secret of Kate Middleton’s face-framing look is a modest £15.50 ($24) Bobbi Brown eye shadow powder from Peter Jones store make-up counter
Although she could simply summon the country’s top make-up artists to Kensington Palace, she picked up the eyebrow technique during a highly public – and free – make-up lesson on the shop floor.
Sitting on a stool at the bustling make-up counter, Kate Middleton listened intently while a beauty adviser gave her a step-by-step lesson. Other shoppers walked by oblivious as the pair chatted about everything from eye cream to facial corrector and a creamy concealer she has become a fan of.
Kate, 30, confided that she worries about lines and dark shadows making her look old.
To make sure she looks her best at high-profile events, she invested in a top secret “three set” anti-wrinkle set, which includes a £28 ($44) eye cream, a £17($27) facial corrector and a pot of concealer for £23 ($36).
And like most women, she couldn’t resist picking up a few extra goodies while she was there – a £15 ($24) lip liner pencil in “brownie pink” which she was told to apply all over her lips, rather than just on the edges, as a base for her lipstick.
She also bought a pinky £18 ($28) lipstick called “sandwash tulle” from the same range.
Kate Middleton’s cache came to £116.50 ($186.5).
An insider said: “In her position she has to look good and can’t be seen at posh events touching up her make-up.
“She said she has a lot of events coming up and wanted to look her best during a big tour of the South Pacific she has later this year.
“What was most remarkable, though, was that none of the other shoppers recognized the Duchess as she sat there having her make-up lessons.
“Her bodyguards were very discreet and she looked just like any other young woman popping in to pick up a few free tips.”
According to newly-updated “protocols” approved by Queen Elizabeth II, Duchess of Cambridge has been placed firmly down the royal pecking order.
A document is said to have been circulated privately in the Royal Household, clarifying Kate’s status.
Despite being the future Queen herself, as a former commoner, the once Kate Middleton must apparently show reverence to the “blood princesses”.
This means Kate is expected to curtsey to those born royal, such as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie – both in public and in private.
The rule only applies when her husband, Prince William, is not present.
Royal observers suspect Kate will not mind the new rules as she is keen to please everybody, but Prince William may be less happy.
In his absence, Kate must also curtsey to other blue-blooded women in the Royal Household including Princess Anne and Princess Alexandra, the Queen’s cousin.
In the case of the Countess of Wessex, it is she who will have to curtsey to Kate – even though she is a generation older and is married to the Queen’s son, Edward.
According to new protocols, Kate Middleton is expected to curtsey to those born royal, such as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, both in public and in private
The Earl of Wessex’s wife was once the second-highest ranking woman in the Royal Family because neither of the Queen’s other sons, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew, were married.
This is effectively Sophie’s second “demotion”, having been pushed down the list in 2005 after Prince Charles married Camilla, and finding she was expected to curtsey to the Duchess of Cornwall.
The complex new rules come in a little-known edict entitled the Order Of Precedence Of The Royal Family To Be Observed At Court, which the Queen has updated to take into account Prince William’s wife.
When Prince William is with her, Kate does not need to bend the knee to either Beatrice or Eugenie.
But she must always curtsey to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, whether Prince William is present or not.
The thorny question of how Kate would fit into the UK’s first family has long been a subject of speculation among royal observers.
The Princess Royal, for example, is said to have refused to ever curtsey to Princess Diana or to Camilla, on the basis they were outsiders whereas she had given her whole adult life to royal service.
In an effort to avoid an epic battle of royal egos, the Queen drew up the first Order of Precedence in 2005, after Prince Charles married Camilla.
Its effect was to change the order along “blood lines” so that Princesses Anne, Beatrice, Eugenie and Alexandra – the granddaughter of George V – were all ahead of Camilla.
The etiquette, though arcane to some, is taken very seriously by the royals, who bow and curtsey to each other in public and behind closed doors.
The Order of Precedence affects other aspects of royal protocol too, such as who arrives first at an event. For example, Camilla was forced to wait in the drizzle outside the Guards Chapel, Windsor, for the arrival of Princess Anne at a memorial service in 2006, because Prince Charles had not accompanied her.
Royal historian Brian Hoey, an expert on court protocol, predicted when Prince William married Kate that: “Kate will take the rank of her husband, which means that when she’s at court, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie should curtsey to her. But I don’t think there’s a chance they will.”
While Prince William feels warmly towards his cousins, Beatrice and Eugenie, he’s conscious of the fact that they are lesser royals.
“As future King, he will wish to see them behaving correctly towards their future Queen – but their attitude is likely to be: <<Why should I? I was born royal – Kate wasn’t>>.”
