Jude Law and Damon Albarn have joined hundreds demonstrating in London over piracy charges brought by Russia against 30 Greenpeace activists.
Six British activists were among those arrested last month as they protested against oil drilling in the Arctic at a rig owned by Russian firm, Gazprom.
Relatives of the activists protested outside Russia’s London embassy.
It was one of a number of events being held in more than 40 countries.
The entire crew of the ship, Arctic Sunrise, was arrested on September 18 after two activists tried to board the Russian state-controlled oil platform in the Pechora Sea.
They have all been charged and are being held in the port of Murmansk, in northwest Russia, facing prison terms of up to 15 years.

The Britons who have been charged include freelance video producer, Kieron Bryan, and logistics co-ordinator, Frank Hewetson – both from London.
UK activists Anthony Perrett from Newport in Wales; Alexandra Harris, originally from Devon; Philip Ball from Chipping Norton; and Iain Rogers, from Exeter, have also been charged.
In London, Saturday’s protesters stood behind banners declaring, “Free the Climate Defenders”, “Journalist and Not Pirate”, and “Free The Arctic 30”.
Jude Law, who knows Frank Hewetson, said he was “exercising my right to peacefully protest”.
He added: “I am just adding my face and body to the mass of support. What is ludicrous is that they have been charged with piracy.”
Actors Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter also turned up in front of the embassy in west London to show their support for the activists.
Jim Carter described the arrests as “a ludicrous situation” and urged PM David Cameron – along with the leaders of the other 18 countries which made up the nationalities of the 30 activists – to apply pressure on Russia.
Foreign Secretary William Hague has raised the case with his Russian counterpart and said British officials would continue to raise specific concerns Greenpeace had about the legal process with Moscow.
The Netherlands has also launched legal action to free the activists. Two of its citizens are among those charged, along with people from countries including Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand, Russia, and the US.
Other Greenpeace protests took place in cities including Madrid, Moscow, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Istanbul.
Jude Law is the latest star to quit troubled production Jane Got a Gun, which has already had director Lynne Ramsay and Michael Fassbender exit the project.
Jane Got a Gun made headlines earlier this week when Scottish director Lynne Ramsay did not arrive on the Santa Fe set for the first day of shooting.
Lynne Ramsay was swiftly replaced by Warrior director Gavin O’Connor, but this did not stop Jude Law also leaving the project.
Michael Fassbender was the first to pull out, citing scheduling conflicts.
The Hunger star’s role was taken by Australian actor Joel Edgerton, who remains with the western alongside its leading lady Natalie Portman and Brazil’s Rodrigo Santoro.
Jude Law is the latest star to quit troubled production Jane Got a Gun, which has already had director Lynne Ramsay and Michael Fassbender exit the project
According to showbiz website Deadline, Jude Law only signed on to the film in order to work with Lynne Ramsay and did not wish to remain following her exit.
That earlier departure drew an exasperated response from the film’s producer Scott Steindorff, who said he was “shocked and disappointed” by Lynne Ramsay’s no-show.
Lynne Ramsay has made no comment about her involvement in the film or the reasons for her departure.
Jane Got a Gun tells of a woman, played by Natalie Portman, who turns to an ex-lover to help her defend her farm against her outlaw husband’s former associates.
The days of actors getting multi-million dollar salaries are over, says Brad Pitt during a recent interview.
“Yeah, that thing died,” Brad Pitt laughed when asked if it was possible for stars to still command a price tag upwards of $10 million per movie.
“That arithmetic doesn’t really work right now… that deal’s not flying these days.”
Brad Pitt has been a familiar fixture on lists detailing the highest paid actors.
Brad Pitt says the days of actors getting multi-million dollar salaries are over
The most recent Forbes list for 2012 was topped by Tom Cruise, with an estimated yearly salary of $75 million.
Meanwhile Brad Pitt is thought to have earned $25 million.
As for what state Hollywood is in, in general, Brad Pitt concedes: “It’s a really interesting time.
“A lot of the studios have been challenged because of the economic downturn as well so they’ve been betting on bigger, more tent pole kinds of things.
“At the same time that opens up a vacuum for really interesting new film makers to come in.”
So-called “tent pole” films take the biggest budgets but their profits are expected to prop up other movies for the major studios.
Brad Pitt’s acting work over the past few years has ranged from the Oscar nominated Moneyball, to the children’s animation Happy Feet 2 and most recently the crime thriller Killing Them Softly.
“You take the roles for the roles and you’ve just got to balance economics like everyone does,” Brad Pitt says.
There are still ways actors can rake in millions from a movie though, if they agree a smaller upfront salary in exchange for a cut of the eventual profits.
That model of course only works if the movie in question is a big hit at the box office.
Jude Law says that he’s never demanded a $20 million pay cheque: “No, not really, that’s never been my approach.”
Currently on screen in Anna Karenina, Jude Law concedes he has made salary demands in the past, but not in the way you may assume.
“There are certain films the only way to make them go away was just keep raising the fee, and eventually they go <<Oh, we can’t pay you that much!>> and then they go away.”
