Actor Jim Carrey has said a wrongful death legal case filed by the estranged husband of his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White is an attempt to “exploit” him.

Court documents show Jim Carrey has been sued for allegedly obtaining drugs under a false name for Cathriona White, who died of an overdose in 2015.

Jim Carrey, 54, has vowed to fight the case saying in a statement: “I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved.

“I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”

Jim Carrey added: “It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world.”

Mark Burton, the estranged husband of Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, said the actor used his “immense wealth and celebrity status” to obtain prescription drugs illegally. It is alleged that Jim Carrey then tried to hide his involvement.

Cathriona White, who was 30 years old at the time of her death, was found dead after overdosing on prescription drugs, according to the coroner’s office.

Coroner’s officials ruled Cathriona White’s death as a suicide.

Reports at the time said Jim Carrey and Cathriona White had an on-off relationship and had broken up again days before her death.

According to the case filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Jim Carrey obtained the drugs under the fake name “Arthur King”.

The Hollywood star then “took steps to conceal and obfuscate his involvement and culpability”.

Mark Burton also claimed that Jim Carrey sent a “bogus message” to Cathriona White on the day before her body was found “in an effort to cover up his conduct and complicity in her death”.

In the message, Jim Carrey asked about the whereabouts of the drugs.

Mark Burton also alleged Jim Carrey had an “obsession with controlling and manipulating” her and that he used surveillance cameras on her home to monitor her.

The case – for violation of the drug dealer liability act and wrongful death – seeks unspecified damages as well as reimbursement for funeral expenses and lawyer’s fees.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo matriarch June Shannon makes a brief appearance in the recently released Dumb and Dumber To.

Mama June plays the trailer park wife of Jeff Daniels’ character Harry in a short dream sequence.

The role was kept secret until the film’s release last week.

June Shannon’s scene shows the character Lloyd – played by Jim Carrey – going to pick up Harry’s young daughter for a date, only to grope the breast of Mama June instead.

Allegations that Mama June is dating convicted child molester Mark McDaniel led TLC to cancel her reality program last month, but it hasn’t altered her film debut in Dumb And Dumber To.

TLC dropped Here Comes Honey Boo Boo after images emerged apparently showing June Shannon with Mark McDaniel.

Dumb and Dumber To has topped the US box office chart on its first weekend in cinemas.

The intentionally misspelt sequel to Jim Carrey’s 1994 comedy made an estimated $38.1 million over the weekend.

The film, which sees Jim Carrey’s Lloyd Christmas reunited with Jeff Daniels’ Harry Dunne, edged out Disney animation Big Hero 6, which made $36 million in its second weekend in the US and Canada.

Space exploration epic Interstellar fell one place to three.

Directed by film-making siblings Peter and Bobby Farrelly, Dumb and Dumber To arrived in cinemas almost 20 years on from its hit predecessor.

Neither Jim Carrey nor Jeff Daniels appeared in a prequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd that was released in 2003 without Farrelly brothers’ involvement.

The sequel, which took years to get off the ground, helped Jim Carrey achieve his most successful debut in a live-action film since that year’s Bruce Almighty.

Big Hero 6‘s performance has helped Disney surpass $4 billion in global sales for only the second year in its history.

The milestone was reached thanks to the success of such titles as Frozen, Maleficent, Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Interstellar, about astronauts seeking a new planet for mankind to inhabit, made an estimated $29.2 million in the US and Canada on its third weekend on release.

An ongoing international roll-out saw Christopher Nolan’s film make an additional $106 million outside those territories, thanks in part to a strong opening in China.

Romantic drama Beyond the Lights made a modest debut in this week’s US and Canada chart, opening at four with weekend takings of $6.5 million.

Beyond the Lights, about a troubled R&B singer who finds solace in a policeman on her security detail, stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, seen earlier this year in Belle.

Thriller Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, completes this week’s top five.

Jim Carrey has withdrawn support for Kick-Ass 2 movie following the Sandy Hook massacre.

Jim Carrey tweeted on Sunday: “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.”

“My apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart,” he added.

Jim Carrey is well-known for his support of gun control measures.

Twenty pupils and six staff were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut last December by 20-year-old gunman Adam Lanza. He had earlier shot dead his mother in their home.

Kick-Ass 2 follows 2010’s ultra-violent comic book movie and sees Chloe Moretz and Aaron Taylor-Johnson reprise their roles as high school pupils turned DIY superheroes Hit Girl and Kick-Ass.

The movie will be released in the UK on 14 August and the US on 16 August.

Jim Carrey’s character in the film is Colonel Stars and Stripes, the leader of a group of superheroes.

Creator of the original comic book and Kick-Ass executive producer Mark Millar said he was “baffled” by Jim Carrey’s decision and asked him to reconsider.

In a forum on his website Millarworld, he wrote: “As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I’m baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay eighteen months ago.

“Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin.

“A sequel to the picture that gave us Hit-Girl was always going to have some blood on the floor and this should have been no shock to a guy who enjoyed the first movie so much… like Jim, I’m horrified by real-life violence (even though I’m Scottish), but Kick-Ass 2 isn’t a documentary.”

Further down in his posting, he continued: “Ultimately, this is his decision, but I’ve never quite bought the notion that violence in fiction leads to violence in real-life any more than Harry Potter casting a spell creates more Boy Wizards in real life.,, Jim, I love ya and I hope you reconsider for all the above points.”

Universal Pictures, the film’s studio, has yet to comment on Jim Carrey’s decision.

Jenny McCarthy slipped herself into a voluminous strawberry costume for a Halloween carnival on Monday night.

Jim Carrey’s ex now makes a living as something of a raconteur via her warm, witty and sometimes shocking books.

The former Playboy model’s racy new book Bad Habits is subtitled, “confessions of a recovering Catholic”.

It looks at how the mother-of-one was at one time set on becoming a nun, and how her perceptions changed as she grew older.

Her steps into the world of nude modelling, which saw her become Playmate of the Year in 1993, no doubt had a particularly strong effect on her (lack of) faith.

Jenny McCarthy’s also bagged a parenting column in the Chicago Sun-Times, which is attracting controversy given her conviction that her son’s autism is linked to him being vaccinated as a child.

This view doesn’t isn’t supported by medical evidence, and there is concern that Jenny McCarthy’s outspoken views could scare other parents away from essential vaccinations.

Jenny McCarthy, 39, has also been outspoken about Jim Carrey’s lack of contact with her son, who is from a previous relationship.

Jenny McCarthy, who dated the 50-year-old comedian for more than five years, says Jim Carrey completely turned his back on Evan, 10, following their 2010 split.

“I’ve tried to ask [Jim] numerous times [to see Evan], because my son still asks,” the Love in the Wild host told Howard Stern in June, adding that Evan tells her he misses Jim Carrey “almost weekly”.

“I haven’t [reached out directly] . . . I think that sometimes people need to take a real break from each other,” she explained.

“But I still love him. I think you can love people from a distance and respect him. But as a mother, you just hope when you have a relationship with someone, it has nothing to do with the child when you break up.”
