[googlead tip=”vertical_mic”]One of the ten best major festival in Europe (in 2010), Sziget Festival 2011 started on Monday, August 8 and it lasts seven days.

Fifty-two stages and meeting places with artists from forty-one countries are presenting a great variety of genres on Óbudai-sziget (Óbudai-island) of Budapest.

Hungarian musicians and the Symphonic Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio, Boban Markovic Orchestra, Roots & Routes – Art’N’Go, The Klezmatics, Leningrad  played on Day 0. Seven times Grammy awarded Prince also sang on August 9. Prince was too on the 2010 European Festival Awards’ shortlists as best headliner.

Omen, Within Temption, Terry Poison, Les Hurlements d’Leo, Soerii & Poolek, Rise Against, The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, Empire of The Sun, Interpol, Ojos de Brujo, Igor Do’urden vs. Coyote, Pulp, Dorian Concept, Marc Houle, Philipp Straub and other singers performed on Day 1.

The Chemical Brothers, Judas Priest, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Andro Sikztah Stereokillaz, Gotan Project, The Prodigy, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Above& Beyond, Goran Bregovic Wedding And Funeral Band, Baskerville, Sonata Arctica, Cheikh Lô, and many other musicians are schedueled for the next four days.

Sziget Festival 2011 is a multicultural event, about half of festival goers are from outside the Hungary.

The festival offers a lot of attractions: sports, games, children programmes, reading places, workshops, classical and alternative theater, operas, movies, dance. Agora, Fidelio Octopus Multi-Arts Site, Hello Wood, Ability Park, European Meeting Point, Giant Street Theather, Roma Tent are some of its interesting venues.

Sziget Festival 2011 will gather around 400,000 people during this week, it  is estimated. The organizers are aware of the importance of environmental protection and they try to keep the island clean and to make the concert goers more conscious regarding this matter.
