Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr., the man suspected in the disappearance of Hannah Graham, has been charged with abducting and raping another woman in 2005.
Jesse Leroy Matthew, 32, was indicted on charges of attempted capital murder in Fairfax County, Virginia, on October 20.
The suspect is being held in connection with Hannah Graham’s disappearance on September 13.
On October 18, authorities discovered a body which may be Hannah Graham’s in Albemarle County.
In the newest charges, Virginia officials have thus far declined to offer further details regarding the investigation and victim, a 26-year-old woman abducted from suburban Washington DC in 2005.

“The victim… is grateful that the case will go forward,” Fairfax County commonwealth attorney Raymond Morrogh told reporters on October 20.
Jesse Leroy Matthew is currently being held in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he has been charged with abduction with intent to defile.
Hannah Graham, 18, was last seen on September 13, when she disappeared after an evening of drinking and socializing with friends.
She had been in her second year of study at the University of Virginia, where she was described as a bright student who got top marks in her exams.
Hannah Graham was born in Reading, southern England, and moved to the US with her parents at the age of five.
On October 18, a body was discovered in an abandoned property in Albermarle County.
Charlottesville police chief Timothy J Longo earlier said officers had contacted Hannah Graham’s parents shortly after a search team found the body and made a preliminary identification.
Positive identification will only be made after a post-mortem is conducted by the state medical examiner, Detective Sgt James Mooney of the Charlottesville Police Department told local media.
Jesse Matthew, a nursing assistant, was identified as a suspect soon after Hannah Graham’s disappearance. He was taken into custody by police in Galveston, Texas, 1,300 miles from where Hannah Graham was last seen.
Authorities say Jesse Matthew’s arrest had also provided a “forensic link” to the case of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, 20, who went missing from Charlottesville in October 2009.
Her body was found on a farm in Albemarle County three months after she went missing.
Morgan Harrington’s case has been linked by DNA evidence since 2012 to the rape of a woman in Fairfax, Virginia, who survived after a passer-by startled her attacker, the FBI says.

In a second search of the home of Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr., the man believed to be the last person seen with missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, officials said they took pieces of clothing.
However, the authorities would not elaborate on the importance of the items.
The clothing was found on September 22 at Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr.’s apartment, Charlottesville Police Capt. Gary Pleasants told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
Authorities first searched the 32-year-old’s car and apartment on September 19, and Gary Pleasants said information that came up during the investigation led to a second search of the apartment. He would not give details about the clothing or elaborate on the search.
Police have said they hope to receive lab results on September 23 from items recovered during the initial searches, and authorities are still trying to locate the campus employee to arrest him on reckless driving charges.

Gary Pleasants said investigators have questioned Jesse Leroy Matthew’s mother and uncle, who accompanied him to the police station. He added that search crews on September 22 covered areas in the southern part of the city that had not previously been searched.
Authorities on September 22 also released a wanted poster on Jesse Leroy Matthew. It says the 6-foot-2, 270-pound man was last reported on September 21 as driving his sister’s 1997 light blue Nissan Sentra, and notes that he is said to have contacts in Virginia, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

Jesse Matthew, the man believed to be the last person to see Hannah Graham before she disappeared, was being sought on arrest warrants charging him reckless driving, a police chief said on September 21, adding authorities also want to ask him about the missing teen.
Virginia State Police have issued warrants for Jesse Matthew on a charge of misdemeanor reckless driving, Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said at a news conference on September 21.
Jesse Matthew has not been charged in the disappearance of 18-year-old Hannah Graham, who was last seen early on September 13 in Charlottesville.
Timothy Longo said police want to talk to Jesse Matthew, who was seen with Hannah Graham before she disappeared.
“I believe Jesse Matthew was the last person she was seen with before she vanished off the face of the Earth because it’s been a week and we can’t find her,” Timothy Longo said.
“I’ve made no mistake about it. We want to talk to Jesse Matthew. We want to talk to him. We want to talk to him about his interaction with this sweet, young girl we can’t find,” he added.
Timothy Longo said Jesse Matthew had stopped by the Charlottesville Police Department’s station on September 20 with several family members and asked for a lawyer. He was provided with a lawyer but left in a vehicle, driving at a high rate of speed that endangered other drivers, according to the police chief. He said Jesse Matthew was there for about an hour.

Nineteen-year-old Samantha Ann Clarke, who vanished after leaving her Orange County town house in September 2010, and 19-year-old DaShad Laquinn Smith, who disappeared in Charlottesville in November 2012, remain missing.
Morgan Harrington, a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student, disappeared from the University of Virginia‘s John Paul Jones Arena while attending a rock concert in October 2009. Her remains were found three months later in a rural area. No arrests have been made.
Police have said they do not think Hannah Graham’s disappearance is linked to any of the other missing women.
Emily Kilroy, a consultant who also helped search, said the episodes are “starting to feel like a pattern” that’s especially unfortunate in a college town with so many young women.
Virginia Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Dawn Eischen said there were 981 volunteer searchers as well as 100 others who had search-and-rescue training.
The search for Hannah Graham would continue Sunday, September 21, Dawn Eischen said.
