Joan Rivers’ ENT doctor took selfie with comedienne while she was under general anesthesia
According to recent reports, Joan Rivers’ ENT doctor allegedly took a selfie with the comedienne while she was under general anesthesia for her throat procedure.
A Yorkville Endoscopy staff member told investigators the photo was taken while Joan Rivers was in the procedure room, CNN reported.
Joan Rivers, 81, was there to undergo a scheduled endoscopy by gastroenterologist and the Yorkville Endoscopy’s medical director Dr. Lawrence Cohen, according to reports.
After that procedure, Joan Rivers also underwent an unauthorized vocal cord biopsy performed by the personal physician, who hasn’t been identified, CNN reported.
On September 12, Yorkville Endoscopy announced Dr. Lawrence Cohen was no longer its medical director. Reports are conflicting as to whether Dr. Lawrence Cohen voluntarily stepped down or was fired.
“Dr. Cohen is not currently performing procedures at Yorkville Endoscopy, nor is he currently serving as medical director,” said a spokesperson from the clinic in a statement.
The autopsy of Joan Rivers’ body did not yield a firm cause or manner of death, and that further studies would be conducted to determine how she died. Reports were that she stopped breathing while undergoing the throat surgery on August 28.
Joan Rivers was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but the comedienne did not recover. She was put in a medically-induced coma and on life support.
Joan Rivers passed away on September 4.
